It is exactly what it sounds like. It's usually sold in medical stores for people who for one reason or another cannot stand in the shower or are at high risk of slipping (elderly, etc).

I would think something similar to one of these.. Back before they were readily available, people would make their own using pipe. From the looks of what you have, I lean more to that... a U-shaped seat that rested on e tub edge and 2 legs (with crutch tips) extending down to the tub floor. Your gizmo would keep all that from sliding off of the ledge.

The Black Hole (sorry, I thought I had included a link) is a dense, inert material that does not transmit sound. The rubber tip on an endpin is not adequate for this purpose. The cause is not the volume of the strings, it is the fact that you are inadvertently using your floor, her ceiling, and the space between them to transmit your sound into her space. Beyond that, you have the right to practice during regular hours. I believe 10PM is the latest, by law, but I try not to play after 8 regularly, in case there are small children.
