>Well before I even started thinking about trying to get pregnant, I read /u/yeah_iloveit’s maternity wear guide. It’s fantastic and helpful and I am currently using her postpartum guide to help me prepare for life after baby. So what I’m sharing here is basically a personal application of the guide to show how well it worked for me, and to include a few of my personal insights.
>
>First a note on pregnancy and your changing body. No one’s pregnancy is the same. I kept comparing my belly to other women’s and was really disappointed that I wasn’t showing in the same ways. I didn’t look really pregnant until about 20 weeks, and even then it could have been chalked up to bloating. Don’t even try comparing yourself to others. You probably knew this already, but sometimes a reminder is a good thing.
>
>Second, a note on quality. Normally, I lean more quality-over-quantity, with a tendency to buy fewer, more expensive items. For maternity-wear, I’ve kind of changed my tune. Sure, I’ll be wearing some of these things for over a year, but then, that’s kind of it. So for me, it was not worth investing in nicer, more expensive clothes that I’ll just donate next year. Even if I get pregnant again, I’ll probably want at least a few new things anyway as styles will have changed.
>
>FIRST TRIMESTER – things escalate quickly
>
>My boobs grew so big, so fast. By 8 weeks pregnant, most of my non-stretchy tops no longer fit. By 10 weeks, very few of my tops fit and I was wearing my belly band nearly every day. By 12 weeks, not a single one of my old dresses fit (even the stretchy ones) and it was holiday season. At my office party, I had to keep my cardigan on the whole time because my dress wouldn’t zip up, mostly because of my boobs. I had to rush to find a dress for the wedding we attended a week later (thank you Amazon Prime with free returns). At around this time I desperately needed maternity clothes, so I went to the mall and picked up what I needed to make it to the end of the week. Then I went online to fill out my wardrobe a bit more.
>
>Quick tip: As my boobs grew, I first moved to those coobie-style bralettes, but soon found that I needed actual support. I just went to Nordstrom Rack and got some pretty inexpensive but properly fitting bras that fit on the tightest hook. About 2 months later, these were all too small again, so I just moved on to stretchy but supportive wireless nursing bras.
>
>SECOND TRIMESTER – small work capsule
>
>After the mad shopping dash, I had created a little work-wear capsule, and I didn’t buy anything else for over 2 months. My work wardrobe consisted of:
>
> 2 pairs pants
>
6 T-shirts
> 2 blouses
>
2 dresses
> Plus, my regular blazers and cardigan – the longer, looser ones
>
Plus, all my “comfy” shoes – my nice shoes were already a bit too tight
>
>Quick tip: I used an elastic belt a bit like this to hold up my under-belly maternity pants before my belly got big enough. With the big panel ones, I folded the panel down halfway. The elastic belt also helps to cinch looser tops & dresses between your bust and belly making you look more pregnant and less stocky.
>
>Once it started getting warmer, this capsule got boring really fast because I couldn’t create variety with cardigans/blazers. Also, by the end of my second trimester, my feet were starting to swell, and I was down to 2 pairs of shoes that fit, plus an old pair of my husband’s loafers. So here’s what I ended up with in addition to the first 4 lines above:
>
> 1 skirt
>
2 more tops
> 5 pairs shoes (2 new)
>
>This made for a 20-item work capsule.
>My casual wardrobe was also pretty limited, being basically my work top options with the one pair of maternity jeans I’d bought in the first trimester. So during the second trimester I also picked up a second pair of jeans, and some leggings. This worked well for me until the weather warmed up.
>
>Quick tip: At some point, I bought some under-belly maternity underwear. And then I bought more and wore these exclusively. Because I live in a warm climate, I avoid excess fabric as much as possible, so underbelly works better for me than full panel. You might feel differently, so try before buying a bunch.
>
>THIRD TRIMESTER – I’m getting hot
>
>With my teaching semester drawing to a close, the weather heating up, and my growing body running very warm, I needed some casual, summer options. Currently, my casual summer capsule consists of:
>
>
2 pairs of shorts
> 1 skirt
>
6 T-shirts
> 3 loose tank tops
>
2 blouses
> 5 sundresses
>
2 pairs of sandals
>
>Quick tip: Not everything I bought, even in my 3rd trimester, is maternity sized. I bought a very stretchy foldover waist skirt, some drapey tanks (2 sizes larger than my usual) and a pleated swing dress that all provide plenty of room.
>
>CONCLUSIONS
>
>I’ve found that capsule wardrobes by occasion/season were the way to go for me. Despite being more of a maximalist than a minimalist (ahem), I found that I was perfectly satisfied with 20 items at a time, especially since I knew it would be temporary. And for reference, here is a sampling of what I have been wearing for the past month or so: album.
>
>So far and excluding undergarments, I have spent less than $750 on clothes, and have acquired about 35 new items. Note that this is over the course of 6 months, and about $300 less than I spent on clothes over the same time period last year. I bought everything from:

> Amazon
>

> Target
>

>* Goodwill
>
>I’m happy to answer any questions about my experience buying and wearing maternity clothes. I’d also love to hear others’ experiences and tips for maternity shopping.

Any and all questions about materials, methods, and possible complications are very welcome! I will be at work all day but when I get home I will be sure to answer as many as I possibly can!

I got almost everything from Amazon in one big order (I looked through each product's list of prices and origin to find the cheapest one). Everything else like the athletic tape, brads for the belts, the old white T-shirt for the arm wrap, boots and makeup I already owned or are very easy to find.

The pants were a pair of orange Stone Touch cargo capri shorts from Amazon, slightly lighter orange than I wanted but it would still look fine without the tea staining like I did. They could also just be dirtied up with some makeup or real dirt to get a good effect.

The gloves were brown, unlined leather driving gloves from Amazon. Amazon has a universal sizing chart they use to size jackets, pants and gloves, and I found it to size pretty true, if not a bit small for gloves. I got the smallest size that would still fit me so they would be skin tight and just broke them in. Note: these were the gloves that matched the psycho's best, but I saved a bit buying ones that were close enough.

The knee and elbow pads were Alta Tactical Superflex/AltaFlex pads from Amazon (one size, if I remember correctly)

The shins guards I got at Dick's Sporting Goods before I started looking online for all of the supplies. They were a pair of Umbro GT soccer guards (could only find the youth guards online, but any hard plastic shin guard will do).

As I said in the pictures, I used a plastic primer on the guards before the silver paint. There are probably many options for these paints, but the primer I used was Krylon Fusion For Plastic (Gloss, White). It said "Bonds to Plastic" at the top and "No Sanding or Priming" towards the bottom, both things I wanted. The paint I used was Krylon Dual Paint + Primer (Hammered Silver). For the paint to get the ideal texture, you need to get a good medium coat on; too light a coat and the effect doesn't happen, too heavy and the effect is flooded. You get a good idea after doing a couple of coats, it isn't too difficult.

The leather straps were made from some cheap buckle-less leather belts from Amazon. They were size 44 so I could have a lot of extra for vertical straps as well. I had enough, but I'm a skinny guy, so I guess it depends on how wide your thighs are.

The snaps for the arm wrap were a bit difficult to find, only since I had no idea what I was looking for. I went to a Michael's arts and crafts store, had to ask a couple people where I could find snap fasteners. They have a kind that you sew on (do not want) and the kind that you need a press or a tool for (these are the ones). As a word of advice, I needed to use needlenose pliers to spread the head of the protruding bottom section before hammering it down or else it just basically wanted to go back through the hole in the top part (you'll know what I'm talking about here only once you've tried to install a snap already).

And finally, the mask was the cheap latex one by Neca. I got it from Amazon along with pretty much everything else, but it's the only oficially licensed latex mask and you can find it at a lot of different places (I got it when it was on sale for $30).

As for the markers I used for the body lines, I used some black artist pens that I already owned (Faber-Castell 1,5 was the most useful, then M). I got them in an 8-piece pack from Michael's. The only reason I mention this is because the lines came off fairly easily in one shower (except near my arm pits, for some reason), and I don't know if you'd be able to say that about Sharpie lines.

One last note, I'm naturally a very hairy guy, and if you're like me, please shave your chest/stomach before trying to draw any lines on yourself; it won't work and you won't look like a psycho. Just a fuzzy weirdo. If you've never shaved your chest before, don't be ashamed to look up some tips, because it can go bad if you have no idea what you're doing and just jump into it (wicked razor burn, bleeding, ingrown hairs, etc).

Good luck and have fun!

Edit: Sorry if it seems like I'm karma-whoring, I just didn't want the How-To to get lost in the comments of my first post

About 8 years ago I made my own leather harness, thinking I would save some money, but it still was pretty expensive. I kind of "hacked" one together, using bondage-style belts. The length of the belts, and how many belts, O-rings and screws you will need, will vary depending on your design. Be sure to design it on paper, so you can figure out what quantities of each component will be needed.

Tools:

  1. Box Cutter (or an x-acto knife).

  2. Large Screwdriver that will fit the Chicago screws.

    Materials:
    A. Dickies "bondage style" belts.

These have two rows of holes that run the entire length. Plus they are black leather. They are available on Amazon, and look like this:
    Amazon Dickies Belts

They seem kind of expensive on Amazon. I got mine on clearance from Wal-Mart, for around $5.00 each (again, about 8 years ago). For my "full body harness," I purchased 12 belts of varying lengths. Eight for my torso, one for my crotch, and two for my shoulders. The last belt was cut up to make vertical connectors between the O rings. Obviously fewer belts would be needed for a chest harness.

What I did was cut the leather about 3 - 4 inches back from the buckle, and this would be connected to an O-ring. I then measured, and cut the remaining belt remnant to connect to another O-ring. When I cut the other part of the belts, I made sure to retain the front edges of the belts because they already had a nicely finished edge (hope this makes sense). I allowed a few extra inches leeway when folded over the O-ring, in case I wanted to adjust them. When I cut the leather with the box cutter, I kind of "shaved" off the exposed edge that would be pressing into my skin (be careful when cutting leather!).

    B. 2" diameter welded steel "O" rings. I got mine from either Home Depot or Lowes at the time. On Amazon, they look like this:

    Amazon 2" O rings

How many you will need will depend on your design. Also, if you have male genitalia, you might want to add an extra "O" ring that will be a cock ring (when you size the ring, get a more specific size that will fit, and allow some space for the leather belt material that will be going around it from above and below). If you have female genitalia, you might add a dildo-holder. I myself didn't add this, but you might research options.

    C. Chicago style screws.

On Amazon, they look like this:
    Amazon Chicago screws

What I like about these is that they can be screwed together and then taken apart for adjusting the leather length. There are many sizes and several different styles. Search around on Amazon. The length of the post is important. They will go through the belt holes, and fasten the belt once folded over on itself, when connected to the O rings. I found some at a hardware store to test, and then I ordered a bunch online. Sorry I can't remember the exact length, but you will want them to screw together and pinch the leather tightly. They are easy to fasten / unfasten with an appropriately sized screwdriver. Once I did my test-fitting was satisfied with the length of the straps, I added a dab of loctite to keep the screws from un-screwing (they can wiggle loose during constant use, taking the harness on and off, etc.).

Another option is to add a butt-plug holder. I didn't add one to mine, but you might shop around for what might work.

A couple tips: A trick I learned to protect the leather going up my crotch and backside (i.e. like a thong) is that I cut off the end of a non-lubricated condom, roll it out, and slide it on. This helps protect the leather a bit. However if you don't do this, and the leather gets dirty, it is easy enough to unscrew the chicago screws, clean the leather and re-attach. I've also bypassed the leather crotch strap, and instead tied two pieces of black disposable rope in between the two O-rings where the leather crotch strap would normally be (two pieces of rope, so that they could go on either side of my genitalia, and then run up parallel up my butt crack). This makes it easy to avoid having to deal with leather that has been on my "wet areas."

Because I was able to score a bunch of belts for cheap, mine wasn't too expensive. But if you add all the costs for belts at Amazon's current prices, plus the other hardware, it is going to add up fast, possibly to the point where it might be more worthwhile to have a leather worker make a custom one for you.

If you make one, please share a pic!

    Edit: formatting - gah!

Edit #2: I probably actually used 3" O-rings, to allow room for up to four and five connections of the leather belts for the O rings that will be along the torso. Most of the torso rings had 4 straps connecting to them, but the Upper chest and upper back rings had five (because of the shoulder straps). I can't remember, and I would need to find my harness to double check. The connections with five straps was tight; 4" rings might be a better option if you want to see a bit of the rings in contrast with the black leather. Recommend doing a test with an O ring from your local hardware store before buying them in quantity online.

Edit #3. The harness I made was a simple design, but "heavy" and iconic-looking. I couldn't quite find an example on Etsy, and they were looking more like "fashion harnesses" with skinnier straps, and fancier designs. Mine looks similar to the one made by this redditor:

reddit post by another person who made a harness for his girlfriend

Here is the image of the harness he made. Mine looks very similar, except mine has a fourth torso wrap, two rows of holes running the full length of the straps, and a crotch strap (which I rarely use, and instead use two pieces of rope to connect). I think my O rings might have been slightly smaller, but were sized for the Dickies belts I used. I love this particular look:

Review: I could stop being lazy and work harder to get to the fitness level i keep complaining about not being at. I do work out, but i could definitely try harder.

I am generally happy with my life. I am about to get a great job, a good place to live, good friends, the best family, I'm gonna start college again in the fall, a really cute woman is interested in me for reasons i can't begin to understand, and I get to volunteer and see puppies whenever i want. my life rocks right now! :D

this would be nice to get if I win. I kinda have a collection starting.

u/Vectorbug · 1 pointr/running

I run commute 5-7 miles each way so I carry wallet, iPhone, keys and sometimes garage door clicker. I just bought this fanny pack (errr, running belt, w/e). It's perfect for wallet and keys. My running shorts have a little pocket in the back for the 3rd slab/item. It's been a really good combination. Can't attest to its long-term durability but I forget I'm wearing it.

I've also gone running in cycling jerseys for their pockets. This one in particular is almost perfect, except its too short in the front for running - however I'm 6'1" and own the Medium because I'm not a heavy guy.

The night light material, full zip and pockets in the back is perfect. The fit hugs my body so it wicks very efficiently and the junk in the pockets doesn't bounce around. If only the front was a little bit longer, but when I wear my singlet, the jersey is out of sight.

u/BMXPoet · 2 pointsr/videos

It looks like those belts would fit the bill.

The images aren't showing up on that site for me right now, but rest assured I'll be checking out the rest of their belts. I've always been partial to black belts, This one looks like it would be perfect, but I just want to see what else they carry, y'know?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, this is a HUGE help!

Not quite what you're looking for (used gear), but I've been doing just fine with a basic "all Triple K" rig of....

  • Two Cheyenne holsters ($73)

  • Slide on shot shell carrier ($30)

  • Slide on cartridge holder ($34)

  • Plain belt ($31)

    Total cost: $241.

Not cheap, but a lot less than the custom stuff and I've zero complaints about the quality.

My son runs similar equipment but saved a whopping $10 by going with a Hunter slide on cartridge carrier. Mostly I think he just didn't want a rig identical to mine.

And my loaner gear (for when I invite friends out)? Saves a bit more by skipping the cartridge holder, and going with a Vebstlife shot shell holder ($16) and a cheap Dickies work belt ($15) for a total cost of $175. Not nearly as nice, but hey, it's loaner gear!

Obviously, if you can pick up something used you can beat those prices but its equally obvious that it's going to be hard to predict what's out there. I'm also quite sure there are also cheaper rigs out there. But based on the homework I've done, it's going to be hard to beat the cost/quality combination of the Triple K stuff (although if someone knows of better I'm eager to be corrected!).

edit: While I've used Amazon links to show the gear, I ended up going directly through the Cowboy Shooting Store for the Triple K gear (same price as Amazon and I support small business when I can).

I had a similar uniform im training for a job. If done wrong you can look like a busboy/valet. Things to focus on: belt, watch, shoes. You have to make sure your shirt and pants fit obviously.

But you can add a touch of personality with your watch and belt. Keep everything black since your shoes are black.

Black leather belt with a gold or silver face. If you get a black leather watch, make sure the metal matches your belt ( gold with gold, silver with silver). You could get black alligator or lizard watch/belt for extra pizzaz. I wore a gold pinky ring but that was personal taste , its up to you.

As for your shoes: i would go with black captoe oxfords but thats the most formal and would look better with a full suit. You could always get derbys or loafers but please please don't get any cheap, square toed, rubber soled shoes. Your shoes are the most important part. It will make or break you, but also i understand its just for work.

Make sure you keep them shined and make sure your shirt is always crisp and not wrinkled

Here are some shoe, watch, and belt recommendations. I don't know your budget so i went kinda cheap.

u/ShiKage · 1 pointr/zelda

That's pretty dang sweet. Do you think a strap like this would support it? https://www.amazon.com/Hyrule-Zelda-Sword-Leather-Strap/dp/B0047Y9C7W/ref=pd_sim_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0047Y9C7W&pd_rd_r=756QY05ENZB98177MR28&pd_rd_w=NvCth&pd_rd_wg=3Eg0k&psc=1&refRID=756QY05ENZB98177MR28

I've never bought a Master Sword replica before, but I've always had the interest. This one really piques that interest. It would be fun for Halloween for sure.

These look like what red scout is wearing, rolled up.

Or these

Belt

I believe these are what he is actually wearing, rolled up

Tape this to the bag

Do you have a target? He does not seem to really be wearing baseball pants, more along the lines of rolled up work pants or really look like rolled up umpire pants, these should be an easy match, roll them up into shorts like he does and voila! A perfect match! Or maybe even a pair of dickie like shorts that you can roll up a bit. You need that roll on the bottom and you need charcoal color!

There have been many discussions about belts here. I now have three that I've seen mentioned:

  1. Arc'teryx Conveyer Belt
  2. Grip6
  3. Arcade Adventure

I rank them Arcade, Grip6, Conveyer. I think the stretch of the Arcade belt is really nice, and makes a lot of sense for a belt... particularly when moving around. I don't know how long it will hold up though, as stretchy things tend to lose elasticity over time. The grip6 and Conveyer are more standard tough nylon materials, but I find the tightening mechanism on the grip6 is much better than the Conveyer, which I have a really hard time getting on tightly. Overall I think I'd recommend the grip6 without context, but personally I find the Arcade does the better job. For context, I'm wearing them with Strongdarts which I find a bit loose in the waist. Maybe I should have sized down.

I've also ordered the DSPTCH Keyring since giving up on the key piece. I will post about it next week. I'm also becoming more and more infatuated with Acronym but so unwilling to pay for what I'm looks like a fairly transient trend. But I like the style.
u/Made_of_Scarsss · 1 pointr/longisland

yeah, that's honestly the best route to go. hmm, you know i've never heard of someone buying belts from a guitar supply store, seems interesting. i, myself just use these types of belts i find them far more comfortable than the conventional hoop belt.

I’d say roughly $50-$100. The cheaper the better of course, but I understand anything less then $50 won’t be the best quality. I actually saw this inzer belt on amazon Inzer Advance Designs Forever Buckle Belt 10MM Medium Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011PZ0YZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UIsUCbHTTB4W4

It's a bit late, but if you haven't found a belt already, a D-Ring belt is the type you'll probably be looking for. I used one for my Okabe cosplay about 4-5 years back and it worked perfectly. I found one on amazon that's the style you'd be wanting to use

Check out Arcade belts. They are made with elastic so they strech a bit which makes them nice for when you are active. Also the buckles are really low profile so they arent as annoying under a backpack hipbelt buckle. I love mine.

The 10mm Forever belt? Yes. Love it. And you can get it on Amazon much quicker if you don't mind a black one.

u/Ketomatic · 1 pointr/loseit

There are cheaper options that do similar shit, like cloth belts or elastic belts.

That aside, the mission belts do look awesome! If I wasn't such a cheap skate I'd think about it. (As it is, putting a new hole in my current belt is free, I like free).

u/RanTheRedCedar · 2 pointsr/OkCupid

I hope you have thermal underwear in that mix somewhere. Thermals are key.

When I ski I wear 3 thermal tops and one bottom with These snowpants and this belt.

You probably don't need something that expensive for just messing around in the snow. Check for closeout sales if you actually want to get one. Last years winter outdoor jackets/pants and some gear is always 20-60% off.

I got a belt like this one 12 years ago and it is holding up fine, so I recommend buying one before you have to punch more holes in yours! (Comes in black and brown.) You can still keep yours- hang it in the closet or something where you will see it everyday like the trophy it is!

u/fingerthief · 1 pointr/keto

You should grab one of these!

I bought one and it is awesome, when you reach the end of the current length you just cut some off and continue on. It's good quality too.

u/WaywardWes · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I still go with black or brown. My favorite belt is this color, but I also use medium brown and black belts.

You could do grey or red canvas belts easily, I just don't have any.

I do also have a set of black/dark brown/light brown dress belts, which might be overkill for some, but I really like the dull casual leather look.

Have you tried a expandable waist pack / runners' belt? It's not structured like a traditional fanny pack but solves the "Where do I put my keys?" question. Something like this

u/DigitalMindShadow · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I've been pretty pleased with the quality of this belt.

u/MCfleet · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

This is a pretty good belt for jeans. Much wider than a dress belt. $15 and prime eligible. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003V4AL1A/

u/schmigz · 6 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I am particular to belts that do not have holes. They seem to last so much longer without the holes and are more comfortable and can be easily adjusted after that big meal,

Running belt? That's the one I use and I love it.

I suggest you google "SMBus" and "Smart Battery". It's not DRM, it's battery-management which was devised for maximizing battery performance and life back when laptops ran Windows 3.1 and the new batteries were NiMH -- EEPROM records of charge/discharge cycles, and voltage and embedded thermistor temperature monitoring during charging. SMBus is a protocol based on I2C, so you'll want to study that too if you're new to it.

Just googling "smart battery milwaukee" brought up this link, showing that Milwaukee uses the technology: https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Adapter-Milwaukee-Compatible-Batteries/dp/B0015S8RBA

I purchased this one a few weeks ago. Best belt I've ever owned

u/cw30755 · 2 pointsr/keto

Yes, i think so - these are not the webbing/canvas "Boy Scout" belts from when I was a kid. I am linking to a random one I found on Amazon. the last time I was in Costco they had a couple to choose from also.

Amazon has this, and Google found these guys, who will sell you a belt with a metal-free buckle, or just sell you the buckle. You could take the buckle and your favorite belt to a cobbler and have it installed.

u/bluegrassgazer · 2 pointsr/running

I odered this and really like it.

I have this one. It's currently unavailable, apparently, but there are others with a similar style

u/mehh · 2 pointsr/loseit

You could always try getting a belt in this style: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FOR2CY/ - you can just cut length off of the belt as your waist size goes down!
