It depends on how much wood you have or are willing to buy. I'm assuming you want wood and not particleboard, aye? If you answered yes, be prepared to spend that much.

Found these in about 15 seconds; you could probably find a better option if you spent a good 45 seconds more. Look to be a solid wheel, should lube them up well though.

These should be sturdy enough to hold some paper and the drawer itself. Agian, lube well...just assuming you've got some good oil laying around. Still looking for a good all-purpose, myself.

Your local hardware store has a literal wall of pulls to select from. Not going to bother looking these up.

As for the actual construction, you'll find better luck if you extend the sidewalls over the sides of the top and bottom, as you'll see here.

As for the mechanism to lock the the tabletop to the drawers, I'd suggest you use 4 metal rods--1 at each corner--with threading at the top. Make your own wooden cover and glue to the nut.

Disclaimer: I am a novice carpenter. I may not actually know what I am talking about, and on second glance, those caster wheels are horribly oversized. Ah, well, wouldn't be /r/DIY if I had to plan everything out for ya, eh?

My wife and I used to do a lot of overlanding in my 2001 forester in much the same way that you describe. We had a similar setup to your third inspiration picture, although we had quite a bit less space under the bed than that.

I built a wooden platform out of plywood that was basically exactly the same height as the rear wheel wells (the forester has a flat spot on top of the rear wheel wells). I cobbled together a wooden frame that just rested in the back of car, it wasn't actually secured to anything because I built it into the car so there was nowhere for it to go. That left me about 10 inches below the platform for storage. I had just about 3 feet of space between the rear door and the back seats to work with so I installed 2 sets of heavy duty drawer slides and built some shelves out of cheap plywood. I added a few dividers and a mount for a camping stove on one side, and left the other one completely free of dividers.

This basically gave me 7,000 cubic inches of storage on each side, so one was usually food, cooking supplies, and utensils and whatnot and the other side was usually camping gear like clothes, furniture, binoculars, climbing gear, axe, lantern/flashlights, and toilet paper.

I can't really take any pictures because I tore it apart after our second kid and needed to haul kids in both of our cars.

That is an interesting idea for hiding a TV, I've never seen anything like it. That being said, it looks like the doors are running on a normal drawer slide. So I would guess that one of two things are happening right now.

First is that drawer slides are not meant for this application. Any lateral force pulling the door away from the wall or uneven load, could throw the slides off balance, cause twisting and cause extra friction. I would see if there is a track at the top or bottom or a retaining rail keeping the door from straying from the intended path, and putting extra pressure on the slides. If there isn't one, I would consider adding a retaining rail of some sort to prevent that from happening.

My second idea is that the installer might have used standard drawer slides that aren't meant to hold that much weight. So the slides have worn out over time and they don't work like they should. They make heavy duty ones that can hold more, and a switch to those might work out. Depending on the weight of each door, you could look at something like these:

The weight is per pair of slides, you only showed 1 slide for the door in the picture, but I'm assuming there's a second one at the top. If not adding one to the top might also help. Remove and weigh the doors to determine the slides you need, bigger is going to be better here since this is a non-standard application. Also make sure to measure for the length you'll need on the new slides.

No plans, I kind've built as I went. I basically started with a 2x4 across the top and a 2x6 on the bottom(load bearing). 2 vertical 2x4's in between about shoulder width apart for the rails to slide on.

The 2 inner-vertical 2x4's in between can actually be removed now, I was using those as a guide for the 75-lbs of counterweight I was using before I got the winch. Same with the short 2x4's to the left and right of the MacBook. I was using those to manually lift and pull down the monitor stand(?).

I added the slides to the vertical 2x4's, then connected the front and back with a short 2x4 piece on the outside which also act as stoppers. Then just added the 2x4's in the middle of the monitor stand(?) where I would need to put the wall mounts.

I did also run 2 dedicated circuits to this area so I didn't overload any circuits as well. Also was able to place sockets where I wanted them.

I guess it is easier for me because I draw pretty pictures of houses and cabinets for a living. So it is very easy for me to come across all facets of construction material.

You could call a contractor or millwork company in your area for a spare. If there is a recycling center near you that re-purposes construction 'waste' much like THIS one near me. You could buy a similar one HERE in white. I do not have any after replacing mine or I would just send you some. I can keep an eye out for any in the future. You could upgrade and install something like THIS

Been there. When the wife wants something done, you do it yesterday. Found these 24" that were reasonably priced and have mostly good reviews. Personally I have had less issues with the side mount style over the years so that would be my vote.

I'm looking for sturdy undermount adjustable height locking railmount slides for a project and wasn't sure about the best place to ask for a recommendation.

If you wouldn't mind, could you either help with a recommendation if you know of good slides, or if not that point me in the direction of the best place to ask. I'm kind of at a loss where to even look beyond googling so I decided to try asking here.

Install these sliding racks and a piece of nice oak or a hardwood of your choice under the desk. To the right of your shifter is one mounting point and the leg on the left is the other. Then you'll have an easy to use pull out drawer to put both your keyboard and mouse on.

IMO the best solution is to build a quickie driving rig with a junkyard seat. You can have all the wood cut at Lowe's, home depot, or menard's if you have your measurements sheet. The seat should cost around 10 bucks on half off day or 20 at the worst (most pull your own yards have this and black friday is coming up when they have 75% off for one day.) For about the same price as a name brand keyboard rack you can have a nice custom rig.

Wow your desk sounds exactly like the one I just built in an unusable corner of my office, except that it's mounted to my wall, with no legs on it. High gloss red and everything! I am waiting on parts from Amazon to get here for the keyboard and the pullout desk feature (which should double my work area).

I was in a rush (school is starting!!!!) so I just used a few coats, and I could have done a better job on the staining, but I just don't care, since I've been pretty high off the fumes from this desk for a few days now. The hardware is mismatched because I had it around (Deck screws with disk washers on 22" shelf brackets? What he's crazy?!)

I had some angle iron which I cut and used as a side stabilizer, which I must say lets me sit on my desktop, even though it has no legs, and is mounted to the wall. I used oak plywood (by far the most expensive thing for this desk at $52 per 4x8' sheet), and made some cleats and a backsplash to add rigidity. I also threw on an upper deck for my books and microscope. I built it in two days, with the majority of the time being spent on staining. It measures 4x2' on the bottom and 16"x4' on top. Like I said, it can hold my weight (around 180 lbs), and I had about 1 square foot of plywood waste, and no metal waste or hardware waste. The shelf brackets are the 22" ones you can find anywhere online or in a store.

If you copy my design, DEFINITELY use those cleats! The shelf brackets will indent your sheet rock and cause it to be out of level otherwise. I have about 100 lbs of books and equipment on the top shelf (to be out of reach of my 2 year old). And I don't know if I need to mention that they should be in studs (when you drill in studs make sure you have a basic idea of where your electrical is).

The things which still need doing are the side desk, which measures 22" x16", which is roughly what I have to work with when everything is on my desk. It will be off to the left, and pull out from underneath with this bracket. The keyboard will obviously pull out from in front of the monitor. It will be extra wide to accommodate a notepad, mouse, and the ergonomic keyboard I have. It will use these brackets. I ran out of fastener hardware, so I used 3 1/2" deck screw, with disk washers. To mount underneath, I use 3/4" slotted screws (slotted screws make you do things with a screwdriver, which is good in this case since you can easily strip out the hole on this plywood with a power drill). You're definitely going to want to pre-drill those holes!

Grand total for this project was almost exactly $100 in new material. I had about another $50 in leftover parts and stains. I am very happy with this desk. I might add another pull out mini desk on the right, which pulls out in front of the window. It will accommodate a book stand. The only thing I would change is to hide those massive angle irons. I used 1/4" lag bolts to anchor those too. Bomb proof!!!

Well I decided just to use my ATX server (might get a new MOBO and CPU) and just use that for the storage array. The R310 is strictly for storage, with minimal archiving and backup scripts. So with the ~300 I save for not getting the r310 I can get the dell rails, more hard drives, and SATA expansion cards.

By the way, how am I supposed to mount a whitebox ATX server? Its a standard 2u that is decently heavy and decently deep, but I have no idea how you would mount something like that. I checked amazon, and would these things work?

I feel you about that "mental obstacle"--you are NOT alone in that. It's something I focus on as well.

I think your listing out of the problems you see means you have a really good idea of what to do to fix it--identifying the problems is most of the effort!

some other "less effort" ideas--those deep shelves seem like a problem; if you could find a plastic tub/bin that's about that same depth, it could create a "drawer' that would let you pull it out.

(For that matter, if you or a friend can use a drill and a screwdriver, and if you're willing to spent a little, you could install pull-out shelves, or actual drawers. Online places like ShelvesThatSlide.com (google "custom pullouts" to find others) will sell them.

Or, if you could trim your shelves a bit (got a friend w/ a saw? Or maybe there's a carpenter shop or a custom cabinet place that would be willing to run it through their table saw for you; I had luck with that once, by asking nicely and offering to pay them), you could install drawer slides on your existing shelves, and then you can pull them out. I was looking for a drawer slide that would attach to the underside of the shelf without wrapping around to the side, so you wouldn't have to trim. I haven't found one quickly

Here's mine. I used 5/8 ply. These pictures don't show detail that well as I just uploaded them for someone on the 4runner forum. I'll have better pictures at some point.
Kitchen is built in, and cutting board is Velcro'd for easy removal and cleaning. Underneath is kitchen supplies with foam cut out to hold everything. Under the griddle I have two stoves that are mounted in. They can be removed for backpack camping or individually lit for fuel saving. Also the griddle pops off if you want to boil water directly on a single stove. Other side is recovery gear. Also made a cooler out of insulation behind the kitchen storage section.

Don't know how deep it is...but if you can make 24" work you can save a lot of money with these slides (or 22") another redditor suggested them at one point in the past and I added to my saved cart for the future. Full extension, 100lb capacity.

Rather than standard drawer slides, I'd shop for top mount drawer slides like these on Amazon. These are sold as a keyboard mount, but you could simply mount them to your rack and be good to go.

They work great and are very sturdy. The drawer is a solid piece of white oak I bought online, routed the edges to be smooth, stained with black ink, and then satin coated with a spray finish.

Blum Tandem. Is this what you mean? These are amazing slides. I call them air-ride. They soft close and glide open and closed. Every other drawer slide will feel gritty to you after using these. There are tons of options for them too.

What do you mean by 2 way?

I'd suggest getting the PC on the floor or an under desk holder. And I'd also suggest arms to get those monitors up off the desk. I also built my own keyboard tray, it saved me a lot of room on the desktop by moving my keyboard and mouse off of it. You don't need to completely avoid using it, but switch immediately to the other hand if there's discomfort.

In regards to feeling discomfort when you're resting your wrist on the table:

Unless you're so close to the table where your elbow is on the surface, I think that there's some exertion required to keep your wrist on the surface.

An example of a bad position would be if you're far away from the surface, and your wrists are hanging on the edge.

(That's why I'm eventually going to switch from a keyboard tray to an adjustable desk, and keyboard slide with a custom sized tray.

I want more of my forearm on a surface, and a stock tray isn't deep enough.

I have a bad back, which is why I like stiff and non-adjustable chairs.

If you have an adjustable chair, then it should be fine since you can use a regular table

Find a better resting position for the right hand.

Try:

Maybe have more of your right forearm on the surface.

Have it the table, but don't rest it on a mouse (there's some wrist extension involved when it's on the mouse).

Have the right arm by your side.

I used these for the locking slides and these for the non locking. Figured I just needed one side to lock. They are pricey but they are heavy duty for sure.

Is your desk big enough for three monitors? If so, just get a 1x12x(however long you want) board from Lowe's and a keyboard slider and do it yourself.

Also, are you sure you need a full sized keyboard? There are really only two reasons: ip addresses and calculations. You could talk probably get away with an 80% and maybe a separate keypad.

Two 1x3s cut to your drawer depth. 2 or more 1" wooden dowels cut to your drawer width minus 1". Using a forstner bit drill 1/2" deep evenly spaced holes in the 1x3s for your dowels to live in. Predrill holes for screws into the 1x3s and dowels then glue and screw it all together. Be sure to sink the screws into the 1x3s so that the heads are flush with the wood. You should now have what looks like a short ladder. Then using a keyboard slider (https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Slide-Extension-Steel-Set/dp/B00AHFRUHE/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=keyboard+slider&qid=1574801152&sr=8-6) you can mount the ladder you made to the slider and then the slider rails to the bed. Easy 30 min project that will cost $30.

They're called rails, any peice of wood thick enough would do the same thing.

Keep your sliding door idea, just go with conventional rather than decorative hardware:

• There is architectural concealed ceiling-mount sliding door hardware

•Use a standard pocket door track to the ceiling,

• trim a closet bypass track to be a single track.

• mount full extension soft-close drawer-slides to the bit of wall face visible above and below the bathroom door opening, with an overlay door attached to the sliding portion. This can be a single sliding panel, or small panels (symmetric or assymetric) to slide both ways.



Otherwise:

• accordion door

•bifold door if there is clearance to the outside duct

Extended Reflex 36x12 mousepad that I got from Amazon. The shelf I got is exactly that size and the mousepad fits like a glove

Can you simply remove the shelf and add another one without the lip? I used this when the old sliders on my desk failed, you could pair these brackets with a piece of mdf cut to the right length.
