So I have two things to say about this:

  • You have to be kinder to yourself when you don't do what you want. Like I know it sounds so ridiculously cheesy and cliche and whatnot but I'm serious, it helps. Also setting lower expectations helps too. Yeah, maybe if you're neurotypical and have all the time in the world, you list of deep cleaning your entire house, grocery shopping, working out, doing cleaning out your closets, returning those things that have been sitting in a bag on your floor for the last month, etc could all be doable.
    • But we are not neurotypical. We do not have the luxury of just being able to "do it" (Thanks Shia LaBeouf for the wonderful mental image every time anyone ever says that). So we just have to make due instead.
    • Instead of having a huge laundry list of stuff to do (likely including actual laundry), cut that list down into more achievable and smaller segments, and prioritize that shit. Instead of trying to deep clean your entire house, say you're going to clean your fridge and that's it. And if you still have energy/motivation, clean more in your kitchen. And hey, if you find yourself two hours later realizing you've been down the rabbit hole of what ingredients you can make with that random shit you found in your fridge, well at least you started trying to clean and you can try to pull yourself away from this random person's life story and how they had a life-changing journey and this led them to figure out onions taste good in soup and get up and start trying to clean again.
    • So back to what I was saying about being kinder to yourself, you have to remember that even though you want to hold yourself to higher standards for doing things, sometimes you just can't. And it's shitty and unfair but if you're worried about wasting time, moping about what you can't do is, unfortunately, a huge waste of time. This is coming from someone that realized I have cleaned every shelf and cabinet in my kitchen a few days ago when I had only wanted to throw away food that had expired. I wished I could have not just spent a ton of time doing something that really didn't actually need to be done, but there was no point dwelling on it.
      • You have to forgive yourself for the things you both do and don't do. Start with that and start with the little things. Oh, you forgot to buy that one thing at the grocery store because you got distracted by how many different types of artisinal cheese they have? Fine, put it on the list to get next time or plan another trip. Didn't get anything done on your to-do list because you played video games or went on reddit all day? Oh well, tomorrow's a new day and you can try again.
    • Also! I almost forgot! Routine is everything!! So whether you're in school or working or what, set aside a specific time to write your lists and whatnot. Like for me, my mind races so terribly before bed thinking about all the things I need to do. So I like to write out my tomorrow's to-do list the night before so my brain can take a break from thinking about it (if you haven't tried writing before bed and you have issues with a racing mind, highly recommend this). Or maybe you have time in the morning while eating breakfast. Just take 5 minutes to try to make your smaller and more comprehensive list. Also if remember to make that list in the first place is hard, set alarms! I'm constantly setting reminders on my phone to remind me to make lists, write emails, text people, do things, etc.
  • Okay so about lists and journaling! I am so bad about remembering to write in things. I had planners all throughout my school life and I think if I had 150 days of class, I probably had 20 days of writing done. But my out of school self has loved this life planner I found. I wanted to make one myself but got bored halfway through trying to do some online designing stuff and just looked around a lot until I found one that I bought. I got the Phoenix Goals Planner from amazon. So it's pretty blank to start and goes in 12-week sections for 12-week goals. There are calendars you fill in and dates for weeks, etc so you can start it whenever you want. It's nice for me because it makes you write out the how and why of your goals (yay for SMART goals). And it has a breakdown for each week as well as each day. So like you'll have your goals for your week and places to write them down and how many days that week you want to do them and can check them off for having done them. And you can write little goals for each day as well as just use the space for to-do lists and whatnot. I forget to write in it all the time but it's nice when I actually remember to. I might also try bullet journaling at some point because I absolutely love doing hand-lettering stuff and I'd like the option to also have daily entries and whatever I feel like instead of a more rigid planner like the Phoenix planner.

Okie-dokie so that turned out way longer than I thought. It was just kind of a wall of text so I tried to format it for easier reading. Also u/Micro_Social this is for you too but I just ended up to the parent comment you also replied to instead of to you directly. But lol this was supposed to basically be: 1- Be kinder to yourself and learn to forgive yourself. 2-Look at this cool goals planner I found. But ended up being so much longer. Hope it's worth the read 😂

My list would include a variation of games

Code Names - $16

Sushi Go - $10

7 Wonders - $26

Tsuro - $19

Castles of Burgundy - $27

Total: $98

Explanations:

First, I want to preface these selections: our play group varies in size from week to week with anywhere from 4-10 players averaging 5-6. So, we often get caught "splitting the party." That's fine at times, but sometimes, we all want to jump in on one game together because splitting up feels bad man^TM since we're all there to socialize in addition to playing games.

As such, I wanted to include games that ran the gamut and for the most part games that scaled well from 2-X players.

First, Code Names. Now, we've played this game so many times, we actually purchased the expansion Code Names Deep Cover which is a fun variant which adds tons of more playability. This is the go-to "party" game as, for our group, Cards Against Humanity has grown a bit stale. At least it hits the table much less frequently than in years past. Code Names is easy to teach, easy to understand and difficult enough for some of your more entrenched board gamers. In general, I find this a great starter to transition from your Milton Bradley games everyone knows (and hates) into board games that offer sustenance.

Secondly, I offer Sushi Go (cheating a bit here as you'll probably have to buy a couple copies for larger groups or just get Sushi Go Party). Sushi Go is our groups go-to game to introduce games that use a drafting mechanic and to teach that board games can be cute, fun, and delightful while also requiring strategy, maths, and a bit of hope (our group tends to dislike dice-rolling games so for the most part, we stick to games where we can mostly "control" our own fates - YMMV). This game is super quick, so you don't get bogged down at the table for hours. I feel for new board gamers, quicker games are a MUST as many people may not be able to handle the length many of our Beloveds require.

7 Wonders comes next. We tend to introduce this game right after Sushi Go as the mechanics are super similar and the newer players feel like they already know what's going on for the most part. There will be questions, there will be some confusion and oversight, but this game follows easily and feels like a natural step up from Sushi Go and gets players right into the mix of heartier board games. Oh, and I could personally play 7 Wonders every week, especially with all the options offered through the expansions Cities, Leaders, and Tower. The interchangeability of these expansions has kept this game on our table long past many others and continues to bring it back. Again though, YMMV as we all have different tastes.

Tsuro, our board game palatte cleanser. This is another quick game which offers a lot of replayabiliity with minimal rules learning. Aside from those positives, the artwork is what sent this board game over the top for me. I am mesmerized by the board, the tiles, and the pieces each time we open this. This game offers a quick break between your heavier meeple-laiden board games so even after we've surpassed "newb" status, we often come back to this.

Castles of Burgundy I included as a final game because ultimately, we need a game with a strong theme and wonderful mechanics which offer replayability from a more traditional Euro point of view. This game really surprised me. I loved it the first time we played it, and though it may not hit the table but once every other month due to time constraints, it always feels like reuniting with an old friend. It offers a setup for further Euro games and sets the scene on what's really out there in weightier board games. I know there could be other games that fit this description, but at the price, this game is amazing for what it offers.

And that's the list. I know there are many criticisms of these games and I don't devalue those. All my favorites have points in them where they fall a little flat at times, or don't elicit the enjoyment I thought they might, but many times, it's usually my perception and frame of mind. I can often come back months later with renewed enjoyment for them, so trust me, I know there are imperfections; I just choose to ignore them for the post. These games, while some may take a bit longer to learn, offer a great springboard into board games and offer the new player a slow wade into the pool without feeling too slow or drab as one might feel with something like Settlers of Catan. Will I stand by this opinion in 5 or 10 years? We'll see.

There's a lot of resources, but one of my favorite motivational sources of late is just a giant paper calendar calendar

For multiple reasons - It hangs on my wall and every day after exercise I write what I did or relevant info (lift, run how many miles, yoga, injuries, hangovers). It helps me feel accomplished, but also accountable as well as realistic. In addition, it really helps with being proud of yourself and also is a great visualization of your goals (no longer abstract ideas). Also, comparing yourself week to week or month to month is AMAZING for motivation. Trying to do better than you did the week before, that's where it's at :)

I originally got it to track my runs for pacing for a half, because you never want to do more than 10% increase in mileage from week to week.. But now I use it for everything and also to track fun activities and days that I had.

This is bordering on rambling, but good luck ! You'll get back in shape in no time! :D

Amazon sells a Field Notes 56 Week Planner
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017OAACSI/?coliid=ICFGW2H0JSU2U&colid=1C2P1FGVXL68R&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
It's a bit misleading because the product name makes it seem like it's for 2016 only but reading the reviews, it looks like the dates can be filled in.

I also found the Field Notes Resolution 3-pack on Pencils.com
https://pencils.com/product/field-notes-resolution-3-pack/
One of the notebooks contains a blank, 56-page "date book" which looks like basically a weekly planner with the dates left blank.
I've only ever bought one pack of Field Notes notebooks. I like how nice and portable they are, so I imagine that the calendars will be perfect for carrying with you. Good luck!

u/Mahnogard · 2 pointsr/midori

I can't bring myself to spend the money on the more popular leather covers like CS and Foxy Fix, so my "upgrades" are in utility and aesthetics rather than quality. My current favorite is my Webster's Pages TN cover in Diamond White. (Amazon link) Pockets in the front and back, and wide enough for those who like having more than a few inserts. It comes punched with two holes on each end, strung with 4 elastics. I improved it - added a third hole to each end and then mounted grommets on the holes, and then strung it with six elastics. I'm actually surprised by how much I love this thing.

I also have this leather cover, which is really good quality for the price. Unfortunately, I messed up the leather and until I do something with that, it's out of commission. Currently, I'm considering Angelus leather paint as an option for salvaging it. I grommetized that one too. Ever since I got my little grommet kit, I just grommet anything I can. LOL

One area where I've definitely upgraded is my inserts. In addition to using Midori inserts for my weekly and monthly calendars (I used to just print my own), I've been getting Tomoe River inserts on Etsy. So far I've gotten them from Paper Penguin Co. and I've got in order in transit from GoodInkpressions. I've switched to using fountain pens almost exclusively, so good FP-friendly paper has become essential.

u/bot_bot_bot · 6 pointsr/cscareerquestions

I found I was much more focused working on a whiteboard whenever possible. I got a cheap one for about $15, worked great.
Also web browser plugins that restrict website usage during work time, so I blocked facebook, most of reddit, twitter, things like that from 8am until 1pm and from 2pm until 5pm. Works great.

Also (and people are going to think I work for this company because I'm always advising everyone to try it) I bought this diary and followed their work principles to the letter (outlined in the first 10 or so pages), it's an amazing product:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Action-Day-Weekly-Planner-2015/dp/9935915026/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427625367&sr=8-2&keywords=week+planner+diary

Use it for everything, not just college stuff.

Edit: Also, make sure you take a number of 10 minute during the day, step outside and just breath some fresh air.
Another - Bananas for energy, not coffee!

I have this Productivity Planner from Intelligent Change. I like it a lot, because it helps prioritize things for the day.

Um. That said, apparently the last time I used it was Aug. 27. Thanks for reminding me. It really is good when I actually, you know, make the effort. Luckily, it's undated, so I haven't wasted a month's worth of pages, anyway.

It does work best for a 5 day work week, though, so if your schedule is different, it may not be your best choice.

u/AryaStarkRavingMad · 1 pointr/AskWomen

MY PEOPLE! I spent literally 2 weeks stressing about finding the perfect planner for this year because the one I used last year was acceptable but it didn't really fit my needs.

I ended up going with the PlanAhead Organizer because I was really looking for something that I could shove important receipts into if I needed to or take notes about something inside and not lose forever. You have to go to the customer images/video to get a feel for how awesome it is because the provided images uh suck.

This thing is amazing so far. It has everything: monthly calendar, weekly calendar, budget planners for every month, address book, a 3-card plastic sleeve, a clear plastic pencil bag, a note pad, an interior zipper pocket. I LOVE IT!

u/caryb · 1 pointr/ResLife

Have you considered getting something like this? Prices vary from store to store, but it might make it easier in the long run to have something similar. Or, if you have a teacher supply or craft store like Michael's nearby, they usually have stuff around this time for back to school.

Or use a piece of poster paper that has grid lines, go over them in Sharpie (like a 2" by 2" square) and then have it laminated so you can use dry erase marker over it for the dates/events each month?

If you have access to an RA resource room, you could use a die-cut machine (if it has one), and make the letters for each month of the school year using that to give it some color. You could even make border for each month with die-cuts of leaves and other seasonal stuff. (My RA resource room had various die-cut shapes that were always fun to use.)

Hope this helps! :)

It's an Oxford Black n Red.....soft cover, ruled with numbered pages. It's very nice, but I'd love if they done a dotted version
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PFWX50K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vN8HDb2YK5N0G

It matches my original plan to have a simple black and red theme throughout......when I get a proper dotted journal, it'll be a black one with a red pen loop lol

u/playhertwo · 2 pointsr/Wishlist

I have an action day planner. I like it because it has room to write down your goals and it's designed to help you get things done. There's even enough room to write things like grocery lists and any other random notes you might need.

The file folders on my list would help me organize my desk.

When cleaning, try to stick to one room before moving on to to the next. It really helps you get it done faster and more efficiently.

u/eviltwinn2 · 2 pointsr/midori

I bought this one and LOVE IT!! It came with 2 notebooks, a pen clip, travel stickers, a clear pouch for cards, papers, and whatnot that has a zipper pouch side. Its already set up with a spare elastic. I bought it for $19 USD but it was also on prime then. The leather is nice and really thick. If you want pictures look at the reviews. They are very accurate.

Some people complain about scuffs in the leather but I saw a tutorial (can't find it now) where you rub the scuff with your finger in different directions - up, down, left, right - and it will clear it up. (Like a konami code for leather.) Mine arrived scuff free but has gotten a few threw daily use. This trick worked every time.

u/Herd_of_Geese · 1 pointr/ADHD

You could be having some sort of dissociation going on if autopilot is how you're actually experiencing your actions.

What works for me is having a planner that's structured less for scheduling out your day (though that's there too) and more for reflection on each day and each week (like a short diary), and planning for the week ahead. Intentionally looking back and thinking ahead is really important for psychological health IMO, some people just do it naturally but if you don't then even starting to do it a little bit more helps.

This is the planner I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071X46FDQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't use it 100% of the time, and that's part of why I can use it. It's habitual enough that I usually update it, check it, etc, but I let myself blow things off or forget to check it sometimes. It's about helping me identify and remember what's important to me on a larger scale, not about making myself into a some ideal "productive" person who'll do everything I write down.

Frankly if there's 80 things to do no wonder you're not doing them. Narrowing that down to even 2-3 competing choices to do with your evening ahead of time can greatly reduce the decision paralysis (I fill out a week at a time once a week, on the weekend or like today I'll do it this evening because I didn't get to it yesterday).

u/RedcarUK · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

Absolutely! Good quality paper doesn't need to be horrendously expensive.

For example, I search out 90gsm optik paper and I've found it in Oxford Black n' Red notebooks.

They're fabulous for fountain pens and excellent value for money.

I've been doing mine in a regular notebook as I just write out bills and what I need to save. I track my spending in a iPhone app called HomeBudget.

But this coming paycheck I'll be paying off my CC (💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾) so Ill be resetting that app and probably switching up my budget/tracking method. I've been looking at buying this to aid me.

Adams Home Office Budget Book, Weekly/Monthly Format, 10 x 7 Inches, White (AFR31) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C864KE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_93aVBbFT68CRF

Good luck

u/rockinchucks · 3 pointsr/EDC

I actually like that, but it's perhaps a bit too largeish. I'm looking for something the size of a standard piece of paper. Thank you though!

edit: I found this based on your recommendation which appears to be exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XHHBYKS/ref=s9_hps_bw_g229_i3

These two YT videos were really helpful in my decision making:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDT1A4OasJQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAxlrUf05ok

The hosts did a really good job of breaking down the assessment into requirements and showing off each type of notebook. I ended up going with a "Scribbles That Matter A5 Pro" notebook. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GWMZZGW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Hooks. Hooks. Hooks. I have hooks by the front door for everything. I have a magnetic cloud key holder so I don't misplace my keys. Hooks for my bags and coats throughout the apartment. I have a tile in everything I own. Important things are brightly colored: orange wallet, lime chartruce water bottle ect. so I can find them quicker.

My place is a wreck right now though. My dog just brought in a dirt clump from outside and spread it alllll around the kitchen, there are clothes random places for no reason and I have pens everywhere but I can't find one. No idea where my wallet is. -sigh-

I just picked up this planner. I'm not new age and I'm not really into the law of attraction, but I liked that it has half hour increments and allows to set overall goals for each week.

u/AuroraEndante · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

I want to see this too!!

My own ring is a smidge too big, and I'm almost afraid to get it resized since it's white topaz and not a fancy cut diamond. I bought a pack of ring adjusters - basically a plastic mini-slinky to loop around the ring. They've been a huge help!

u/redavid · 1 pointr/AdvancedRunning

I've been using this Field Notes 56-week Planner this year.

It's simple and undated, which fits my needs quite well. I'm just writing down distance, pace, some details for workouts, weather and how my body feels. The only con is that I wish it had more room to write for Sat/Sun, but since I treat Fridays as rest days anyway, I just use that space to describe my weekend long runs.

u/89314 · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Thanks for the video, Doug. Have you thought about getting a Hobonichi Cousin, which is a little larger A5 size? You can get it directly from Hobonichi in Japan, or from Amazon. I really like my Cousin.

I've been a little obsessed with Filofaxes recently, and I found a great alternative on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B829V04/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2W7N58A491TIT

It's only 9 dollars! NINE! It's the standard personal size. (I'll submit it as a link)

I have never been successful with an budgeting app or site. I do a lot better writing all my monthly expenses and purchases down in a budgeting book. Here is the link of the I get from Amazon.

If you have Microsoft office or different version, you can use Microsoft Excel and they have various budgeting templates you can use. You'll most likely have to change the categories to your own though

It looks cool. It shows it's age due to the leather letting itself get scratched. As you change so will it, and so will your thoughts.

also, one of the most badass men alive, Marcus Aurelius wrote a journal daily. Dude spent half his life in war and was considered one of the greater emperors of Rome.

Whoa, more details on the soup please!

Also, amazon has little ring things you can wrap around the base to avoid getting them resized. Like this:

For me, I never put note-taking notes in my journal. I write way too much. But I do make sure to use the same size notebook for my notes, and I tear them out by category and staple them. I don't keep all my notes in one notebook. I'd keep my personal journaling elsewhere as well.

But for my organizational journal, I got a composition notebook - just plain, college-ruled - and started with a blank table of contents. Then I numbered the pages. Then I started with lists - one category per page. I had Books to Read, Movies to See, stuff like that. I added that to the table of contents.

Then I created one page for a week, a box for each day. I later changed one week to a two-page spread. I don't copy the month onto each week. Later, I added a month-at-a-glance page, but even now I keep this monthly planner inside my journal and move it to my newest journal each time.

With the table of contents, I don't have to worry about organization - I look for it in the TOC and find it. With my weeks, however, I ended up putting the next week's page # somewhere: Like, if week of April 23rd is on page 45 and week of April 30th is on page 52, I'll write "next week page 52".

And if I start a page and it's not working, I mark it out, cross it out on the TOC, and start again on another page.

Just start... that's really all my advice! There are no mistakes!

To understand ADHD, think of your ability to manage multiple thoughts at once. You're taking a shower in the morning and in the back of your mind while you're washing your hair, you make a to-do list for yourself. You need to finish your morning ablutions. Then you need to get dressed, and you decide what to wear and make a note in your mind of where it is. The hosiery you need is in the dryer. You also need to load and run the dishwasher before you leave the house. You're almost out of milk; there might not be enough of it for breakfast this morning, so you make a mental note to check before pouring the cereal. Maybe you'll make eggs instead.

Without ADHD, you can remember all that and more. You have enough slots in your working memory for all those things, and new stuff that comes up while you're accomplishing the list isn't going to bump anything off it. You get out of the shower, finish up, get dressed, grab your socks out of the dryer and put them on, load the dishwasher and turn it on, check the milk, realize there isn't enough, make eggs instead, eat, and leave. You do all this while maintaining conversations with people and helping your kids get ready.

With ADHD, things get bumped off your mental list. It hasn't got enough space for all that. While you're shaving you legs, your mind wanders and you forget you need to load and turn on the dishwasher before you go. You spend too long in the shower making sure your ankles are stubble-free. Then you get out of the shower, finish up, and get dressed. You forget where you were going to get socks from when one of your kids interrupts you. You solve your kid's problem and then spend an extra five minutes hunting in your disorganized sock drawer for two matching socks. They aren't there so you give up. You forget you're low on milk and pour the cereal, then run out of milk. You put the eggs on the stove, and then remember where the socks were. You go get the socks and burn the eggs. While you're eating burnt eggs the kids interrupt you again so you go deal with that. You walk by the bathroom and realize you forgot to brush your teeth and go back to the bathroom. You forgot to finish eating breakfast. You go back to the kitchen and load the dishwasher halfway. You're running late. You leave. The kitchen is a horrible mess, you get to work late, you're hungry, and your kids didn't brush their teeth... but at least you're clean and dressed, with matching socks. That's a victory, right?

One solution for ADHD children and adults is routine and structural support. Nothing can be done about the lack of space on the mental list. All they can do is offload. Offload as much as possible. Use timers and lists, hire housekeepers, make strict budgets, stick to religious routines, forbid interruptions at certain times of day, meditate daily, turn off that distracting music, put labels on your shelves, get extra childcare, and have a system for everything. Make a laundry hamper system so everything is sorted into the right bin as soon as it's taken off. Make a meal-planning routine; every Tuesday is tacos. Buy giant packages of ONE kind of sock- every last sock the same colour- so you're never hunting through the drawer for a sock mate while something else falls off your mental list. Put a giant dry-erase wall calendar up in the hallway with big colour-coded reminders for anything that isn't routine. Anything that takes something off the mental list and puts it in the physical world can be a helpful solution.

Not everything is going to stick. Keeping a notebook in your pocket might not work because it'll turn out you always forget to update it or you'll leave it on the counter in a public restroom somewhere. Try the big laminated wall calendar next. Maybe remembering to pin pairs of socks together before washing them is unrealistic, so you'll give up on that, throw out all your colourful socks, and buy 30 of the same sock. Don't give up. Just keep trying solutions until something works, and then keep doing it. Once you've got enough of those solutions in place for them, you might find that your kids have enough focus left over at the dinner table to make an effort to remember their manners.

US Amazon still has it here: https://www.amazon.com/Hobonichi-Techo-Cousin-Notebook-January/dp/B01LKZLC78/

The Canadian Amazon only had one listed for resale at over CA$200+

Fair warning, buying from Amazon is kind of hit or miss on whether or not you get the extras.

u/Volgistical · 8 pointsr/productivity

The productivity planner helps with organizing and distributing tasks, although it puts a lot of emphasis on pomodoros as well and I still need a separate list to dump all of my tasks before prioritizing them in the planner.

I literally just bought a planner on Amazon two days ago... really kicking myself. I got this one which I think has a lot of the same features without being so cute. :( It just shipped so can't confirm.

  2. These as an on the go planner filler

  3. Notecards that I write lists of things I have to do on

Cheaper options include printing on tabloid paper (11" x 17") at $0.24 a sheet or buying a large calendar. Printing on paper of a less common size is many times more expensive.

Per unit area, printing at $12 per foot of 42" wide stock costs almost 19 times as much as printing at $0.24 per sheet of tabloid.

I have a friend whose ring was getting loose because she was losing weight but didn't want to permanently resize it just yet so she uses these.

u/MyKettleExploded · 16 pointsr/AskAcademia

LaTex is pretty easy to start using. Overleaf is good if you want something web-based and Texpad is the best I've found if you're on Mac.

This explains how to organise a lit review with a spreadsheet. I actually found it quite difficult to draw the different research `threads' together using a spreadsheet so resorted to note cards but YMMV.

Day-to-day I found it almost impossible to get stuff done until I found a day planner that worked for me. There are more complicated reasons for this beyond just being a lazy bastard so don't be afraid to ask someone for help if you find yourself stuck in that sort of situation.
