Kind of same boat. Knew i wanted a Cricut, but did not know what i would need/what projects i wanted to do/how exactly i would use it. My husband got me the Maker with the extra blades and mats for my birthday a few weeks ago.

So far I used card stock to make zombie silhouettes for Halloween, cardstock to make a birthday banner, little craft foam tape to give the banner dimension, weeding tools are helpful, permanent vinyl to make a wine glass for my friends birthday, heat transfer vinyl to make her a custom koozie for her birthday.... the possibilities are endless, really.

You can browse her pinterest pins and see what she wants to make and that can help with what to purchase. If she wants to make wood stuff - the cheapest/best option i found for balsa wood (the 1 of, i think, 2 types Cricut can cut) was on Staples website (and i picked up in store).

There is a stencil vinyl i purchased to -- so she can have infinite stencils to then paint on to wood for decorations. Or she can just use the permanent vinyl on any wood (Hobby Lobby, as much as i dislike them, has an amazing variety of choices of wood pieces you can decorate and for cheap...and theres usually a coupon online; check Retail Me Not and others).

I have had a lot of fun so far with my Cricut and have so many more projects lined up. Going to make a felt garland for the holiday too. Michaels has cheap tshirts to use HTV on. I also got extra markers in all different colors, since Cricut can draw beautifully. I bought probably like $200 worth of supplies after my Cricut arrived. There are just too many things that can be done with this machine.

I don't know how much you'd want to invest in this but have you considered matte black adhesive vinyl. I honestly can't vouch as to how well it would work for your needs but I have used it with good results on tables.

It should peel off of the walls when you are done with it. Just an idea, I understand it could be pretty costly for some especially depending on room size. There should be multiple bulk sellers for items like Oracal 631 if you are interested.

Inkscape + Vinyl Cutter + spare time

I had seen the picture many many times before, and last night I was kinda bored so I thought "Hrmm... that would probably fit perfectly on my netbook!" I found the file online in the highest resolution I could, imported it into Inkscape, used the "trace bitmap" tool set to 2 color mode, and got a workable vector path going. I cleaned up the path to look a bit better because as you can tell, it took out a LOT of the detail from the original jpg file. Once I was happy with it, I saved it as an EPS file and opened it in the LXi cutting software, measured my netbook cover, resized it appropriately, loaded the vinyl into the plotter, and hit cut.

The weeding process doesn't really warrant a howto. Suffice it to say it requires a sharp XActo knife, TONS of patience, and in my case large quantities of alcohol. Combining #1 and #3 usually results in blood loss, so have band-aids on hand too. Once it's weeded, throw some transfer tape on it and it's ready to go.

I had the "engineer" design on a mug that I ran through the dishwasher a few times a week. It lasted probably about a year, maybe a little longer. If you're worried about it, I would always recommend hand washing. Since I can just remake it whenever I need to, I felt that lasting a year through the dishwasher was reasonable enough for me.

Using Oracal 651 is the general consensus for best results, but below is a link for what I used the first time around (and what the orange vinyl is) I'm trying out the cricut adhesive foil for the "engineer" this time. It seems like it's on there pretty well.

Edit: spelling

u/savageboredom · 2 pointsr/pokemon

Oh, it's pretty easy actually...

  1. Buy one of these.

  2. Make designs in Photoshop, or your image editor of choice

  3. ?????

  4. "PROFIT" would usually go here, but I've yet to actually start making money on these things. Haha.

I suppose if you're hardcore you could just bust out the ol' X-acto knife and cut the vinyl by hand, but I'm not nearly that talented.
u/MiscLisa · 1 pointr/silhouettecutters

I buy mine from here: Oracal 651 All 63 Colors Adhesive Vinyl 12" x 5ft for circuit silhouette crafting (24 Rolls) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H877B04/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6FODCbQTG0D7C

It’s the best price (I don’t personally know the seller) and it’s all good Oracal 651. I will stock up each time I order on colors I use a lot, but then add in random ones. Eventually I will have all of the offered 651 colors, I’m pretty close.

This is an okay deal. But I've bought bigger rolls for cheaper too. This is technically more than a dollar/sqft which isn't ideal. But I've bought 12" x 10' rolls on Amazon before for less than that price even and THAT is a good deal. So just keep an eye out for those types of things. Also, check e-bay too. Your shipping may take longer, but it seems that a lot of sign makers tend to sell rolls on there too for pretty reasonable prices.

100% rattle can white. Take your time, do light coats, follow the instructions, and jazz it up with vinyl.

We used this stuff on the sponsor panel and it was awesome. Blue background, Dark Red on the Kings logo, and plain white from Hobby Lobby (inb4 "lol relic recovery") for the rest. Cut everything on a Silhouette Cameo here at work. (Those are like $200 new on Amazon, and you could use them to template out things you have to cut manually--just get some cheap vinyl and go to town.)

u/gizr714 · 3 pointsr/silhouettecutters

Don't think there's a 'best', more of what's your personal preference. I got this and it has worked great for me. Even the smallest cuts/details, I can still weed out easily.

u/matt_hughes614 · 6 pointsr/TheMassive

Removing (all) of the old logo

  1. place a wet rag over the logo
  2. iron logo over the rag for around 20-30 secs
  3. use a knife to scrape the logo off
  • reheat with iron, scrape until all gone
  • you'll still have glue residue of old logo. No problem, you'll be putting a new logo directly over top anyway.

    supplies needed

  1. sharp scissors

  2. sharp, somewhat heavy duty craft knife for precision cutting https://images.app.goo.gl/KvoYjkymhQ76s72i6

  3. Matte vinyl like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KSLFSTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N3pYCbVCB71HA

  4. paper or thin cardboard to make stencils
  5. iron, old trash tshirt, dry cloth

    making the letter outline

  6. Make precise stencile outlines. Cut them, place them on the letters, cut and adjust until you get it right. It's a bit tedious... Most letters have holes in them, thsts where your craft knife comes in. Youll need a sharp craft knife, no common substitute for this.

  7. on back of vinyl (paper side) trace your paper letter/shape outline. Make sure you trace it backwards /mirror image (so the vinyl side will be correct)

  8. cut it out. Place over the letter to make sure its s near-match. Dont sweat it if isnt 100% accurate, nobody will know.

  • Getting decent cutouts is tedious. Dont sweat if its mot perfect, the imperfections will go totally unnoticed. That said, dont be afraid to scrap a lost cause. Vinyl is cheap.

  • Note: if you're doing something like the Glidden Logo, use dark transfer printer paper and print it (make sure your ink is full in the printer!) ... Print out tests on normal paper to make sure you have the right size before using the dark transfer paper, which is a bit pricey

    vinyl transfer

  1. peel vinyl off the paper back , place exactly where you want it, sticky side down.

  2. place dry cloth on inside of shirt behind where you iron

  3. place tshirt (one layer of cotton t shirt) over vinyl, iron each part for about 20-25 seconds.

  4. let cool for about 5 mins
u/kudospraze · 3 pointsr/bookbinding

Yes I used parchment paper between the iron and the vinyl carrier sheet, and the HTV I used (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTS8QDG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ufaaCb9ZMVGDC) only needs 7-10 seconds of pressing. My iron was set between wool and cotton, and it didn't damage the leather at all. :)

2200k lights exist. I love this color of light.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=2200k+lights

I think they sell them at Home Depot or Lowe's too.

This \^ is directed at readers of this post who think 2700k is as low as you can go.

To OP: For the canned lights, I wonder if you could make some light covers out of some kind of sturdy clear plastic material with some kind of yellow frosting on the plastic? Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/VViViD-Transparent-Colorful-Window-Tinting/dp/B01N9T1P5FOr this:

https://www.amazon.com/HOHOFILM-Decorative-Blocking-Adhesive-Residential/dp/B07GQL8WJ4

Note: I do NOT know if this is possible or safe.

I was curious if you would find what you were looking for. I checked online for good rainbow vinyl. This is the only rainbow sticker vinyl I could find https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCP4HE2/

If that is what the inside part looked like I would guess someone custom cut and overlapped 2 decals. Or printed something on a sitcker.

These are the [boots](Funtasma Men's Captain-100/W/PU Knee-High Boot,White Polyurethane,9 M US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002488SPU?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf). I’ve attached red vinyl diamonds to them. They tried to peel off until I hit them with the heat gun.

For the gloves, I took the diamond portion of these cheap [gloves](Disguise Men's Red Ranger Adult Gloves Costume Accessory, Red, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UM27R84?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf) and attached them to the leather hand portion of these gloves.

Thank you!
It wasn’t that hard, here’s the materials

Plexiglass 12 x 12 Clear Acrylic Sheet - 1/8 th (.125) inch thick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBVKDPD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fuw3AbF00WHZA

Red Devil 1170 Plexiglass Cutting Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZZ1D0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7uw3AbWAMMW9Y

Adhesive Vinyl Sheets - 30 Pack 12'' X 12'' Premium Permanent Self Adhesive Vinyl Sheets-Assorted Colors for Cricut,Silhouette Cameo,Craft Cutters,Printers,Letters,Decals https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077GRNT2H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Jvw3AbD0TD3RC

And of course some spray paint

  1. Measure the top of the gpu (L and W)
  2. Mark the plexiglass sheet to your measurements, and score it with the cutter until it’s about halfway down, the put it on the edge of the table, and snap it, it will break along the line
  3. Sand any rough edges
  4. Pint out the logo you want, (I did it ok normal paper, then glued it on the vinyl) then cut it out of the vinyl
  5. Put the logo made out of vinyl onto the cut acrylic ( it has adhesive)
  6. Paint the top, and bottom of the acrylic ( bottom color for the color of the logo / design
  7. Once it drys, peel off the stencils
  8. ?????
  9. Profit
  10. Repeat and sell to people with left over materials???
  11. More profit?????

I just placed it on-top of the gpu, but you could use some cheap “mounting tape”, then it’s not going anywhere!

I purchased mine from a local hobby store quite some time ago. However, something like this vinyl or even cheaper ones should do the trick.

u/kwon130 · 1 pointr/ElectricSkateboarding

I didn't really like the gold motors. So I simply used a black sticker I bought from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NQMLVUM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and now it looks like this. Not bad. Also didn't like the 97mm evolve wheels at all, so I decided to change it to abecs11 from my old BGT.

u/talking_walko · 2 pointsr/CraftyTrolls

I used this vinyl. Then let it cure for 24 hours.

The unicorn head glitter was from a different place on amazon.

u/aresfour · 1 pointr/wyzecam

Don't spend that much, that's automotive grade. Oracal is high quality, used for permanent stickers:

https://www.amazon.com/Oracal-Matte-Permanent-Vinyl-Inch/dp/B01NC0XTPV/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1524714819&sr=8-6&keywords=adhesive+vinyl

If you know someone with a Cricut or other vinyl cutter you could get a precision cut...

u/SomeGnosis · 3 pointsr/rccars

You could buy a roll of vinyl?

Here's the link, I just laid it over the top of each stripe in strips and cut it with an exacto knife.
