I don't think I'm ready to do this yet. I was mostly feeling out demand with this post. I just got a part shipment, but I need them to build boxes for my customer.


You would probably be better off ordering your own parts because it's going to take me a while to figure this out.

I'd suggest this button btw, it has a really good feel. Some of the other ones you actually have to press into the body which I don't think is very comfortable.

Nice! I just installed two sconces on my back deck. The blocks in the link below was definitely a better experience that they way I did the ones off my garage last year and the way I had to trim out.

Also my doorbell no longer worked and installed this wireless one in about 15 minutes (2 locations) and has worked great so far. Can even bring the noise maker with you if you have a large house.

Anyway. I ended up trying out this knock nanny and OMG. It's been amazing because it literally covers the fucking doorbell. So now I have a sign on our door where people would knock saying "DON'T KNOCK" and then an actual cover on the doorbell that has stickers that you can put that says "QUIET!" or whatever you want and it's been soooooo effective.

I suggest this baby not only is it wireless, it also flashes so if you have music playing loud or headphones on, it will certainly get your attention.. Its also quite loud!

Wires in line with your existing doorbell wiring and works with any z wave hub. Super simple and works great.

Would be way easier than DIY something. But definetly pick up some esp8266/esp32 and have a lot fun with them anyways. :D

I hope this doesn’t come off as rude. I know your son was just trying to be helpful, I’d worry about alerting people that you work nights though. If I may suggest the “nanny knocker” It works great for me, and prevents people from ringing the bell. Here’s a link if you’re interested.

Honestly? I combine a Wyze Cam with an outdoor mount in the soffit above the door (much better angle than a doorbell provides) and an Aeotec Z-wave doorbell.

The total investment is $107 with zero subscription fees.

Bunches of stuff. I would have no worries at all about buying certain things, like tools or books or media that can't easily break or be damaged. I bought a flashlight once ("like new") that didn't work because parts were missing; wasn't hard to get a refund. I picked up a really cool brass doorbell button once for $3.49 that appeared to be brand new, hard to know sometimes why/how things end up in the warehouse. Some items I"ve been surprised really do look as new or clearly haven't been out of the original packages. Even bought a guitar for my kid once...they shipped the wrong one actually, but what arrived was better than what I'd ordered so we just kept it.

A laptop I would be very wary about however. Would the warranty apply? Could you return it if it was wanky? Don't know that I'd risk that.

Give TheForkklifta try if you're shopping the warehouse. It's a good tool for finding real bargains. Try setting the filters for 75% off and skimming through the categories.

I used these two and they work pretty well together. Also I can add whatever sounds I want to it.

So easy to build one. Here are the parts you need:

• Any cheap wired momentary contact switch (eg. a wired doorbell switch)
  
• A z-wave dry contact sensor (eg. Aeotech ZW097)
  
  Wire the doorbell switch to the terminals on the sensor. The sensor will pair to Wink as a door/window sensor whose status momentarily changes from closed to open when the button is pushed. Create a Wink robot that rings the chime everytime the status changes to open.
  

I have one of these. Works perfectly.

We bought this and it's been a life saver! We order so much from Amazon too, and have over protective dogs, and at most we get a light knock on the door or nothing at all - no issues with the doorbell because they literally can't ring it!

Why do you need the transformer? If your doorbell has power it should be fine. I purchased this, but don't use it anymore.

It's a wireless doorbell. The base unit would be plugged into an outlet somewhere. Not really a "smart" doorbell. They probably took the rest of the doorbell with them not thinking about it or it got thrown away.

You can do exactly this with a Skybell. They just released the newer 2.0 version that fixes all the bugs in the 1.0 version. Here is the link. They are currently out of stock, but they have bumped up their production so it may not take long to get it.

Same doorbell, same issue at my house. Get yourself one of these and save yourself the headache of trying to move it.

edit: just noticed that you said you didn't want a 3rd party bracket. The issue is going to be even with fish tape, you have to get into the eave of the attic to re-run the wire. It's going to be a tough, hot, nasty job to pull the wire if you really want to do so.

Been wanting to install one of these bad boys by skybell. spore also makes a legit looking one but they are not as skynet cool as the skybell. Problem is there is no existing wiring on my door.
