I suggest to not use PcPartPicker as they mostly got Amazon on there wich isn't the only store in Germany and also not the cheapest either. I prefer to use http://geizhals.de

I can create 2 builds. 1 very sweety black and white looking build and 1 sweet white build with the insides not that amazing, but same performance. Obviously the 2nd option would cost less. Not sure exactly how much lower I could get it. I guess about €50-100.

I made a list here: Click!

I also will provide a PPP link (US prices, so ignore the price, products are the same) just so you can quickly see what my suggestion is.

Some video's that will help you with the build!

How to build a PC: Here. Completely ignore the parts that he chose. I actually was very surprised at that date when he came with those products, as I don't think it's optimized well and the GPU could've been a lot better. Anyway, ignore it! Building a PC is basicly the same, the wires did not change and the process is not changed either. You can skip the stock intel CPU cooler part and instantly install the aftermarket CPU cooler. This is just easier for you so you don't have to clean the thermal paste later. Wich would cost you another £/$/€10 or so.
How to overclock my CPU: Basicly pretty much this. Very solid and simple to follow guide. This is done with an Asus board so it will be slightly different with our motherboard. Slightly different names and they are often on other places, etc.
How to overclock your GPU: Hey guys, this is Austin! It really is very easy these days. I highly suggest to run 10-15 minutes stress tests in between changing to a higher frequency. After you hit crashes and artifacts. I sugges to go down 2 steps or at least 10-25MHz on the core clock and 25-50MHz on the memory. Then do a full +6 hour stress test at least.
How to install Windows from an USB drive: Here is a great video again!
How to use Ninite: This video explains it very well, in case you can't figure it out.

---

My rationale for the chosen products:

---

CPU: CPU: Intel quad-core, hyperthreaded, unlocked CPU clocked at 4,0GHz with a boost up to 4,4GHz. The boost will automaticly take place when the CPU gets under heavy load. So when playing games, etc. this will happen. It also is unlocked wich means you can overclock the CPU even further. More on overclocking above!
CPU Cooler: As it is a white and black theme, I went with a white and black CPU cooler. It's a pretty solid one for the price. It comes with 2 fans as well, wich does help a good amount for cooling. Here is a nice review. Yes it's the same one, they come in different colours.
Motherboard: Black and white Z97, SLI ready motherboard from MSI. It's a beauty! Here is a detailed review, but you can look at the video and read the conclusion.
Memory: RAM is RAM. The only thing that really matters is capacity. For gaming 8GB is enough, for editing how-ever you do want 16GB. But I wasn't able to put it in the budget. But I would just suggest to start with 8GB, you can use the programs you do use just fine. But not all at the same time. Then later buy the exact same kit and trow it into the system and you got 16GB wich should technically be enough for you. If you think that you will need more, I would suggest to buy a single 8GB stick instead. I don't edit as much and when I do, 8GB is enough for me. But you likely would want at least 16GB, perhaps 32GB even. As for "dual channel vs single channel" it does matter very slightly for render timings. But for like a 1 hour video it would take of 2-3 minutes at most, wich is in my mind not a huge deal. So you can just buy a single stick first. It's technically possible to also place 2x4GB and 2x8GB kits in the same motherboard. This useally works without a problem, but it's something I don't suggest.
Storage: As I asked before, I went for a 128GB & 256GB SSD, different models as the pricing was best for these versions. How-ever the MX100 is a slightly updated M550. But they both perform very well. M550 review & MX100 review.
Video Card: Video Card: The GTX970 is the beauty of the system. It's Nvidia's latest Maxwell architecture card and got a lot of nice features. Including Cuda. Here is a great video about these features. Note that this is the GTX980, so you can ignore the benchmarks, but these features are all present on the GTX970 as well. Here is a short video review of 2 different GTX970 models from Zotac. Sadly I can't find any written or video review of the card that I selected. But it also got a metal housing and it's only a 2 slot card. So no 3 slot as the 2 in the video. It got 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 DP port. You can buy DVI to HDMI & DP to HDMI adapters, but this is not able to* transport audio. I also just simple not suggest to use HDMI unless you really need the audio. But DP also can carry audio. Our zotac card got the latest DP 1.3 connection.
Case: Here is the best video review you can find about it. The window will make it a little less silent, but still silent anyway if you keep the moduvents closed that is.
Case fans: Stock fans are good enough, so no need to change or add anything here. You can always add aftermarket fans later.
* Power Supply: 10 year warrenty, 80+ gold, fully-modular flat black cables, 750W PSU from EVGA. This is flat out the best PSU in this wattage range you can buy. Here is a very detailed review about this unit. You can also just look at the score: 9,8/10. Wich is very good.

Thanks for the help. Hoo boy, this PC stuff really makes my head spin. So let me get this straight: the PASSIVE Insignia Display Port to HDMI Adapter that I'm currently using (links below) that says on the box that is only capable of 4096 x 2160P@30hz, is ACTUALLY capable of passing 60+fps to both my Oculus Rift or my Samsung 4K TV? Even though it says it's 30hz? Meanwhile, the Gofanco ACTIVE adapter that says capable of 4K @60Hz is actually going to be worse for what I'm trying to do?

I'd appreciate your input on this, since I ordered the Gofanco to replace the Insignia since I felt like I'd get better performance from my 4K TV if I did.

So I found these puppies.

HDMI 2.0 15ft https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DI8A3HQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then the DP to HDMI Adapter
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ6UT21/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Both get great reviews and the DP to HDMI adapter says it supports 4k@60hz and the HDMI cable is 2.0 Also the DP adapter does support audio output as well. I WAS hoping to find a one cable solution but I think at the moment as you said it's better to play it safe and get what I need in 2 then later go for a one cable solution.

About $35 bucks total doesn't seem so bad.

u/SmellsLikeNostrils · 2 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

Nice. I bought this one for my Note8 and it works quite well on my monitor.

Gets a bit hot, but the phone itself warms up only a little.

I like the form factor of yours better. I want to throw together my own stand with a little fan, and the design of yours seems more conducive (longer cable, extra port). I'd have paid the extra 10 bucks for it. Oh well.

I have a Logitech Triathlon Bluetooth mouse, so I can switch between 3 different Bluetooth devices with just a button press. Quite useful. That, and a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and a Dualshock 3 rounds out the setup.

u/CarbonDudeoxide · 4 pointsr/techsupport

Your problem: You can purchase a USB to HDMI Adapter from Amazon. I have never used one, but the reviews look good.

Her problem: She will not be able to use a VGA splitter in this case. The splitter will only output the SAME image on two displays. She will have to get a new video card, a second video card, or a USB adapter like yourself.

Smart TV: Smart TVs often connect to the internet via Wifi, although they typically have Ethernet ports on the back. So long as your router is not on the other side of the house (i.e. 6 rooms away) the streaming quality shouldn't be affected.

Streaming Boxes: I have a Roku 2 XS. I only use it for Netflix on my TV. It is fantastic!

u/devnull00 · 1 pointr/oculus

Which two did you buy and what is the resolution and hz of your monitor?

I would expect something like this to be a better one. If it supports eyefinity that is a good sign that it didn't skimp on something. But the main thing you want is an "active" one.

This is one I have and use for hooking my laptop to tvs. Never had an issue: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Technology/dp/B00EDT0072

This is a newer company and you can see their adapter is smaller than the other two, but it makes the same claims of support. This one even specifically says hdmi 1.4 support. http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-DisplayPort-Supports-displays-3840x2160/dp/B00S0C7QO8

Other than those 3, I do not think any other adapter on amazon would be worth buying. The rest are junk that may work with a 1080p tv, but that is it.

u/sobusyimbored · 1 pointr/Surface

The DisplayLink adapters will definitely do this. I wouldn't use one for anything crazy, ie. Video Rendering but simple video streaming, web browsing, standard use is perfectly fine. The ones I have only carry video though, you'll have to output audio directly to the TV separately. I'm sure you can get ones that output audio also.

Most of the decent ones output as DVI and come with DVI>HDMI and DVI>VGA adapters so you can connect to virtually any monitor or TV.

EDIT: HDMI output with audio. I've never tested these thought they look like they should work.

u/Dritz · 1 pointr/Vive

I'm not using it with the Vive, but the exact one I bought was https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y1DDNN8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used it to free up the HDMI port so the Vive could have it; it's currently hooked up to 50 foot passive cable going to a TV in my living room, which is apparently perfectly fine for 1080p 60hz.

u/netjeff · 2 pointsr/windows

I replaced my 3-year-old laptop with an XPS 18 a few months ago. I didn't have as much need for mobility as you, but I've been surprised how often I've used the mobility. Another plus is that the XPS 18 screen has excellent viewing angles compared to my old laptop -- you can view it from nearly any angle without weird color distortions, which is nice when sharing with my wife.

I've used it for photoediting (latest Photoshop) with no problems. FYI, I'm using the Core-i5 version.

You mentioned "connect a second monitor or projector". The XPS 18 does not have a VGA or HDMI connector. In fact the XPS 18 has only 2 USB (3.0) and one microSD slot, that's it (no ethernet/rj-45 jack either).

For external video, I bought a USB3.0-to-HDMI adapter which works fine. Specifically the EVGA UVPlus+ 39 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BUIKD0/)

For large file transfers (the built-in WiFi is only 150mbps) I bought a USB3.0-to-Ethernet(Gigabit). Specifically the Anker 68UPGGBTA-BU (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A0ABQLM/)

u/Phanton612 · 1 pointr/oculus

I have one HDMI and 3 display ports and one DVI on the back of my GPU. I got this and plugged it into the displayport yesterday and works with my HDMI cable: http://www.amazon.com/SIENOC-Display-Female-Connector-Adaptor/dp/B00FPFNY8U?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
works perfectly for my second monitor, and will use my 1 HDMI slot for the Oculus which hopefully arrives today. hopefully that helps, if that's what you were asking :)

u/sonsofaureus · 1 pointr/Workspaces
  1. I would suggest a KVM switch instead of a VGA switch, so you don't have to manually switch keyboard. The USB switch mentioned below works fine also, and disconnects the use of keyboard and mouse from monitors.

  2. I don't know if I understood what you're thinking correctly, but an HDMI switch takes multiple inputs and outputs to 1 HDMI connection. Seems like your diagram accounts for 2 monitors, but you have three.
  3. If your dock only has 2 connectors and you want to use a 4 monitor set up (laptop, dell E, dell U, HP) with an extended desktop, another box is required. Something like this which will convert a USB 3.0 connection into a HDMI or DP. This will need to connect to a usb port on the dock, then HDMI out to a second HDMI switch, which will also accept input from PC, then output to the HP, using a HDMI to DP cable. This is of course subject to the graphics card limitations of your laptop.

Switching from dock to PC will take 3 button presses, but there's an advantage of being able to can mix and match - 1 monitor extending the laptop, 2 showing PC, etc. Just remember that the Dell E is married to the keyboard.
u/clayalltheclay · 2 pointsr/nvidia

ELI5: in short, the Graphics Card doesn't support dual mode display port. If it did support it, it would do signal conversion in the GPU, which would allow you to use the cable you ordered. The active adapter has a conversion chip inside to do conversion required to convert DP to DVI. Therefore, you need the active adapter. Amazon has a great return policy, so just send it back and order the one I linked in my other comment.

Link again (order this): Cable Matters Gold Plated DisplayPort to DVI Male to Female Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BI3YEQO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9M1yxbPZK040X

u/DeVinely · 1 pointr/nvidia

Bad idea. While that adapter should work in a high end video card, those passive adapters rely on the video card supplying the active timing.

It is far better to spend 9 more bucks and just get an active adapter. A keyword for an active adapter is "eyefinity" support.

This would be a better adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gofanco%C2%AE-DisplayPort-Converter-UltraHD-Display/dp/B00OSBDVF8

u/ad3m3r5 · 2 pointsr/razer

This one should support it. Down it the comments someone asked about 1080p at 144Hz and it was confirmed. Looks like DP1.2. Best of luck to you!

I don't think any of the TB3 PCIe cards are motherboard locked, but it sounds like the combo of the adapter and the card and the RAID might get a little funky. You might try a different brand, I haven't used Startech's TB stuff but some of their other products can be hit-or-miss.

I like CableMatters a bit more but this looks like they might be buying from the same OEM as Startech and just slapping their name on it: https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Computers/dp/B01D0D7QU0/. It has much better reviews though.

I assume you want to keep using the RAIDs for cost reasons so you can't just pull all the files off using a Mac and put it on a set of RAIDs actually designed for Windows use?

u/OculusSupport · 3 pointsr/oculus

Hey there,
While we do recommend a direct connection to your GPU whenever possible we have had customers report success using the following adapters:
DisplayPort (M) to HDMI (F):https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B00K0UDYLM/
DVI (M) to HDMI (F):https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-Female-Adapter/dp/B007NLEF3W
Please note that Oculus does not endorse these adapters and that we cannot guarantee that they will work with all systems.
Thanks!

Some more details are needed here.

Do you have Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10?

If you have a DisplayLink-based USB solution, which driver are you using? Make sure to grab the latest at http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/windows

Do the symptoms change if you plug the USB devices into a powered hub vs unpowered hub? The power delivery of the Surface USB port is limited, so a powered hub is always recommended when plugging in multiple devices.

If you still run into issues, try collecting logs using the diagnostic tool: http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=65 and following up on the DisplayLink forum:
http://www.displaylink.org/forum/

You'll get MUCH better support there.

BTW, why not try a miniDP->DVI active adapter to plug one of the monitors in rather than have both plugged in via USB? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Active-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B00EDSZYII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503094029&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+dp+dvi+adapter+active

u/kerplomp · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

Does the touchscreen work? If so, get an MHL cable, and use it with an HDMI cable to cast the screen. Then you can see what you're doing.

If touchscreen doesn't work...I'm not sure if the S5 supports 11 pin MHL, if so you can use an adapter like this that takes an HDMI cable and a mouse.

If that doesn't work, unfortunately replacing the screen will be your best bet. I wouldn't trust random recovery-ware that might compromise your phone or computer.

u/psyche77 · 2 pointsr/Surface

Nevermind, missed the SB[2]. Depending on the monitor, 3.0 to HDMI Video Graphics Adapter with Audio for Multiple Monitors up to 2560x1440 for around $20.

Depending on the monitor, the most you might need is an mDP to HDMI (preferably active) adapter for about $18 or maybe a Mini DP to DP Cable for $9 if your monitor supports it. If you start to think multi-monitor (screen real estate) I'm a fan of the Microsoft Dock, which gives you two mDP and other nice features like 4 full-powered USB 3.0 ports.

u/Nefariousmg · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

So build a new PC that works great. I have dual monitors (GPU has 3 DP ports and 1 HDMI) so I have monitor going to DP and other to HDMI. I hooked up my TV to 3 port but needed to get a convertor from DP to HDMI so I bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZ6UT21/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_KorLDbM1V5HX0

Weird thing is when I connect TV (even when TV is off). I notice lag on things on PC such as games. Immediately gone when unplugged.

Any one run into this? Should I use the convertor on 2nd monitor and hook up TV to straight HDMI or it's the problem with the active convertor I bought?

Thanks

u/AlexOughton · 2 pointsr/Surface

I would not recommend that adapter in this case. That is a "DisplayLink" adapter which is a software-based video device, rather than just a connector to plug your monitor into the physical video output from the computer. These are useful if you're trying to connect more displays than your computer physically supports, but you should first use the native video output.

On the Surface Book 2, the native video output is on the USB-C port, and this supports DisplayPort Alt-mode. You therefore need a DisplayPort alt-mode adapter, and fortunately almost all USB-C HDMI adapters sold use this protocol.

This is the one I am personally using with my Surface Book 2: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0771GM5HP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This adapter provides you with the HDMI output, as well as allowing a USB 3 (type A) device to be attached, and also allows a USB-PD charger to still be connected. Note that the HDMI output only supports 4K @ 30 Hz, so this may not be the best adapter if you're trying to use a 4K display.

u/GnarlsD · 1 pointr/Monitors

Thanks for the response. Should I try an HDMI cord with an adapter like this?

u/ImJTGaming · 2 pointsr/techsupport

You could try something like this:

USB 3.1 Type C to HDMI Adapter, Topoint USB-C (Type C) to HDMI DVI 4K VGA Multilport Adaptor Converter with USB 3.0 HUB for MacBook/Chromebook Pixel, Plug and Play https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073J79QWF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iBxfAbHMRBABW

$30 on Amazon, I would just surf around online till you find what you're looking for.

u/AMD_Robert · 1 pointr/Amd

In the Radeon 200 Series we added the ability to support 3 concurrent non-DP connections. These must be connected to the system at boot time, and cannot be hotplugged while the system is on. The 290X/290 is the exception to the "no hotplug" rule (hardware reasons).

You can connect 2xDVI + 1xHDMI at boot and all three should work. The fourth monitor, if not natively DisplayPort, must be adapted with an active adapter and connected to the GPU's DisplayPort socket.

Here is an active HDMI-to-DP adapter. Here is an active DVI-to-DP adapter.

If that fourth monitor requires Dual Link DVI for maximum functionality, the active adapters for DL-DVI are considerably more expensive at $50-100 each. DL-DVI has more complicated timings and signalling that makes the adapter electronics more expensive.

u/BuckleBean · 1 pointr/Vive

I've had this issue since shortly after launch. Usually simply power cycling the link box would fix it. I didn't have a spare HDMI port, and it was generally fixed easily enough I never bothered trying another route. But then it got progressively worse, taking multiple restarts. Lately it's taken me 10-12 times before working. So I had enough.

I sacrificed one of my monitors and plugged it direclty into HDMI and had no issues. So I thought I might try a DP to HDMI adapter. I got this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M09PT7O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has worked fine ever since - going on a week now. It's cheap enough to give it a try, especially if you have a spare HDMI cable laying around.

Good luck!

Make sure you read the max resolution on the cables or adapters. I almost bought the 3 in one but I have a 2650x1440 monitor and that adapters max resolution is 1920x1200. All the devices listed so far are actually. This one http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-HDMI®-Adapter/dp/B006F8CPPE will do 2650x1440 if you need it. This one will do 3840x2160 if going to hdmi http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters®-Plated-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B00EDSZYII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451112979&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+display+port+active+adapter. When searching search for mini display port active adapter.

You can purchase a USB to HDMI adapter that will take use of your USB port. It will support up to 2048X1152 and other resolutions. The only downside, that as it is going through USB, the video/performance capabilities will be very limited. For instance, if you were to put a Youtube video on the third display (USB), it would be very choppy at best. It is widely suggested that you only use it for data entry and text-based windows. (Text edit, calculator, emails, etc.) then the other two displays can be used for more graphically intensive applications.

I have a Logitech bluetooth keyboard + mouse combo as well as a blue tooth game pad. If you're looking to get a Dex station, don't bother with the official Samsung one because it's way overpriced. Get this one instead. Works just as well

u/AmericanFromAsia · 2 pointsr/WindowsMR

That won't work. Oculus requires HDMI 1.4, WMR requires HDMI 2.0. That adapter is equivalent to a DP -> HDMI 1.4. You'll want either the Plugable one or the Club3D one. Yeah, they're more expensive and you might be cheap, but they're more expensive because you require more bandwidth than the one you posted.

The one you posted would work, but your framerate would be locked and you might as well just use the onboard HDMI 1.4 at that point.

That may be worth a shot.. I'm trying something similar with a friend's Moto x but this should let u use a tv as a monitor and a mouse could be plugged in so you could run sms backup and restore.

Otherwise you might be able to do other things if I have debugging enabled

I use a Display-port to USB-C adapter and plug it into my 2080ti's VirtualLink port. It works for the display, you still have to plug in the power and USB cords unlike a true VirtualLink cord.

Here's the exact adapter I use: https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter-ChromeBook/dp/B01NBX352B

So I'm assuming you have two dvi monitors. If the card you are looking at has HDMI, then try this adapter. If it has DisplayPort try this adapter.

Please note that the HDMI to DVI adapter that I linked is only compatible the digital version of DVI. The DisplayPort to DVI adapter that I linked is compatible with both analog and digital signals. You can find HDMI to DVI adapters that support both versions, but I did not link one of those.

u/PosturedPasta · 4 pointsr/htpc

Can't say that it will be compatible for sure, so instead I would go with this one since it is rated for DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0.

u/Caroao · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've been trying to set up dual monitor for a while now and I'm compltely stuck. I have a Gigabyte RX570, which has 1 HDMI, 1 DVI and 3 displayports. Up to now, I've only had 1 monitor using the HDMI out port.

I have 2 monitor, both LG, one 24 inch which I use for both work and fun, it has one VGA(work) and 1 HDMI in. The other monitor is also LG, 29 inch with 2 HDMI ports.

All 4 in ports on the monitors work with various other devices. Now the plan was to do HDMI out to the 24in and do a DP to HDMI to the 29in. Is that not possible?

I have tried all 3 DP ports and none will have a signal plugged in either monitor. I have tried one of these gizmos and one of these cables, tried both with all 3 DP ports, and nothing will have something show up.

Am I missing some fundamental step?

You want something like this. Your current cable is most likely a dvi output that switches to hdmi, but doesn't work as an hdmi out to dvi in. Those adapters work both ways; hdmi out/dvi in, or dvi out/hdmi in.

u/bushmaster2000 · 11 pointsr/oculus

YOu need to plug the oculus into the native HDMI port on your gpu that is the recommended configuration. And buy an adapter to do DP > HDMI for your screen.

I think this is the adatper you need

Is your Mini DP to DVI adapter an "ACTIVE" adapter? That's usually the culprit.

Female DVI

I don't turn mine off either - I mean when it's in sleep mode. Or whatever lid-down mode is called. I use this dock (I guess it's more of a hub):

Since you only have 1 HDMI out you could also get this to connect a second monitor to your laptop. Just uses 1 USB port.

Something to do with length and throughput. It's not something everyone needs but i can for example replicate it on almost every TCL of that same model and year I have. A high bandwidth 4k cable wouldn't work over HDMI 2.0 but works fine from the computer over DP to HDMI. I stopped fighting it and just went with the method that worked. It's becoming less coming now that standards are all upgrading and tv's are coming with more features. This could fix your issue, or it may not, but it has been a pratical common fix for many.

As a side note, of the 10 or so times I've made this recommendation to people, its fixed their issue every time. I'll give you the money if it doesn't work for you that's how sure of it I am.

u/baudmiksen · 3 pointsr/WindowsMR

You'll want to get some sort of active adapter that will convert a display port in to HDMI 2.0 in order to get 90hz, which will make a big difference in smoothness. 290 has HDMI 1.4 if i remember correctly, which will limit the HMD to 60hz, which is also why you get warning.
I got this one for my Fury and it works great.

I've been using 3 of these hung off a trashcan for 4-5 years now with no trouble. I think the key is that they're active

Make sure you've read this article, there are a few caveats when using multiple displays on a trashcan and all these could be a source of your problem:

My work was looking for a way to have two monitors connected to our work stations which only had one vga output. Someone there bought the people who would use multiple monitors some kind of usb to vga adapter. The adapter required software and the computer saw it as another video out which did work once booted into windows. It wasn't the best but got the job done.

I saw this when I did a quick search for a usb to hdmi adapter and judging by the reviews it does exactly what you want. I don't know how much video or response may degrade if you're not using usb 3.0
