definitely pliers and something to snip line with but if you already carry a pocket knife, that will suffice. also if you dont wanna deal with the hastle of unspooling line by hand, berkely makes an automatic stripper that works like a dream.

line stripper

line snips <----- generic nail clippers can replace these but will not cut braid as easily.

In the video ILB (aka twisted messes) uses one of these to get the spin down pat:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GJ9BNSO/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Q4Zevb12N8398 but that's not the only issue in making this coil I'm sure. Plus, 50-60' in the bin is crazy, I hope you find a better way to do this coil, as the result looks just amazing.

I love this one ...

T-REIGN Outdoor XD Retractable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JI7UJM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It's not up your sleeve ... But I prefer it on my belt..

I like that if I bust my ass and simply let go of the remote it's snaps back to my waist..

I also like the idea that I'm never going to lay my remote down and forget about it...

And when I fall I can simply let go of the remote and use my hands to protect myself rather than trying to protect what's in my hands..

My 10 yo girl has been fishing since about 3 when she started with a Dora the Explorer zebco. She now casts with a spinning reel but prefers a spin cast.

The key is kids like action. They're impatient. It's hard for her to fish with live bait because she wants to cast and reel. Your kid will probably be the same.

My suggestion is to get a zebco spin cast combo for him. 6' rod. Get 1/8 and 1/4 oz jig heads and a couple of packs of Berkley saltwater gulp in shrimp, shad or jerk bait styles. Buy a couple of top water lures. Get a couple of crank baits. Don't worry about proper technique. Try to get him to slow his retrieve. I taught my kid 5 cranks then count to five then repeat.

Use a 20# flurocarbon or mono leader about 18in long. Teach him to not reel the knot through the guide. Learn a surgeon's knot to tie the line to the leader. Learn to tie a loop knot when tying the leader to the lures. Google is your friend

Get a pair of pliers with sheath. You can buy cheaper than these, but these are good quality. Pliers

Wear sunscreen and have fun.

Off the top of my head, a good multitool like a Leatherman.

A scale with measuring tape. For making sure you are within a size limit or for bragging rights.

Bogagrip like grabber or Fish Gripper for handling fish.

Hemostat for extracting a deep hook.

A good hat, UV rated shirt, sunblock and mosquito/tick repellent. Maybe a backpack with water reservoir a la CamelBak. I also keep a small first aid kit and a hook removal kit just in case.

Dry bag if you are going to be on a boat or kayak. No one likes a water damaged phone.

Edit:

A folding net. Nothing is worse than having a good fish and losing because it too big to drag it up on the bank. I lost a good sized trout last week because I didn't have a net handy.

No problem, and I wish you the best.

Something that I've considered personally is raising more 'exotic' fowl... they fetch a better price at farmers markets, are 'unique,' and usually you can find some better suited to your environment.

I was considering quail, dove and pheasant personally... I believe those have species which are adapted to desert environments. Still get eggs, meat, scratching, etc.. plus with pheasants specifically you get really pretty feathers which are quite valuable in craft circles.

Quail eggs are a gourmet item that people pay quite a bit for.

My point is keep an open mind and you may stumble across a cool niche.

So, it's better to remove their body slime essentially destroying their immune system by putting them in a bag when you plan to release them?

I always thought the lip mouth area was practically foolproof and re-heals quickly and easily because they use that mouth to eat and some of the things it eat can also cause damage.

I use Fish Grips. They are pretty awesome for controlling your catch without messing up anything. Mine glow in the dark for night fishing and I attached a rope cork to keep it off the bottom or leaving with a fish.

Just wet your hands before touching, don't touch the gills and your fish should do just fine once released.

Hackle pliers, used for fly tying and fit on a key ring perfectly. Best roach clip ever :Hackle Pliers

u/Fattswindstorm · 0 pointsr/shutupandtakemymoney

okay but is it also a shotgunning tool? b/c i have a simms bottle opener that opens bottles. and also makes a great tool for shot gunning. in addition it looks like a trout.

u/ODBrunizz · 9 pointsr/EDC

I think that's important though. Like, people who carry a solid gold top that they keep in their pocket....man...you spent HOW MUCH?! But, it brings you joy and it brings me enjoyment and ideas to add to my EDC so I have to respect it.

EDIT: For example, since I like the concept, I'd consider adding this to my EDC (lesser quality but dual purpose and fits for me- http://smile.amazon.com/Loon-Outdoors-NIP-SIP-V2/dp/B00NJ3PA0U/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1465236764&sr=8-20&keywords=fishing+nippers

looks like a boning knife (which is what we use for most game prep.), particularly this one

i believe victorinox and wenger both make orange handled boning knives as well.

that said, it hurts my heart seeing the liver and heart being thrown into the trash.

Regal...the one that does not have a base but a clamp. It's not a true rotary but you can use it that way. I paid $99 for the one I still use 15 years ago and it still is awsome. Just found one on Amazon for $150 so that is not much inflation. Not the best for tiny hooks (\<20, use a Renzetti for those) but rocks for everything else. I love the the slot they put in the jaws for big hooks. Makes it easy to really wrench down on the thread when doing steelhead flies. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/Regal-Inex-Fly-Tying-Vise/dp/B004W4TJD4/ref=lp_12713889011_1_9/143-0409082-1232953?srs=12713889011&ie=UTF8&qid=1526679969&sr=8-9

Get this or a similar product:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009NOWZKC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zb39Ab1BT7R9Z

which is useful in its own right, but also has a hole for you to slip the hook of the scale in. then just deduct the 2oz it weighs. safe for the fish and a useful product even outside of weighing for the teethy species.

u/knittiuskittius · 3 pointsr/flyfishing

Omg get a magnet it will change your life. This is the one I have. I’ve never had it disconnect on its own (unless it gets snagged on a branch). And it’s super convenient. I have it attached to my sling bag at my shoulder and I can easily release it with one hand and reattach after. 10/10

u/lonefrontranger · 2 pointsr/aww

yeah if you want to get really fancy you can get some of those little swivel fishing jig connector thingies to attach the toys to (I just sew a little loop of strong thread into the spine of toy mice and soforth to clip it to).

also try to use string or line that doesn't tangle or break easily - you don't want your kitty to get snagged and cut, or let them tear off / eat the string. Both can be risky. We also have the same fleece toy in the OP because my husband's grandparents sent it to us (they love their grandkitties, haha)

Berkley 100% flouro is pretty cheap and not bad.
Seguar Red label is pretty good, but more money.

It'll never be as manageable as mono though.

stuff like this helps some. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001RUWPR8/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_WRjjDbG2NX3T3

I've moved to mostly braid with a flouro leader.

You've basically got 3 main options, a free-spool reel (This + Mounting Kit), a closed face reel (Like this), or the AMS (Or this).

Someone might argue with me about this one, but I'd really advise against the first option. You're going to be taking lots of shots while bowfishing, and the faster you can retrieve and get ready for the next shot the better. It's a decent introduction to the sport, but that's about it, you won't be very actively shooting at fish.

That said, between the last two options, I've only tried the AMS kit, so I can't say which one is better necessarily, but with the amount of tangles I used to get in my Zebco reels just trying to fish normally turned me away from the close faced reel and left me with the AMS. I also wasn't a fan of the fact that the Muzzy reels supposedly have a drag system, spool, and you have to make sure you've pressed in the button before you shoot. I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't want to be around for the one time I forget to do that. Ultimately, for ~30$ more than the Muzzy, you can get the "top of the line" reel, so why not?

So tl;dr, go with the CajunArchery one if you're only looking to spend like 30$ getting into the sport to try it out, but if you think you're going to like the sport (And you probably will, I've yet to bring out one person who didn't have a great time, even people that hate fishing) I'll advise the AMS reel. Ultimately everything you need to get on the water will put you back ~$130.

Oh, and make sure to get lots of replacement arrow tips :P

It's a Scotty mount and a track adapter. works pretty well and inexpensive. Nice thing is you can leave the track adapter on your boat and drop the camera mount in it when you're ready to go

u/LesZedCB · 2 pointsr/climbing

after a quick search i found these

maybe you can order and give the rest to friends or use them around the house?

or use em as alpine draws xD

Since you didn't say anything about nice big usable pliers...
