Definitely going for a .22 for your first pistol. The price (of gun and ammo!), low recoil, and ease of use are the best way to start.

There are a number of .22 revolvers (check out the Ruger Single-6 type) that you could use.

Additionally, many .22s have available magazine loaders that make it really easy. Check out something like this: http://www.amazon.com/McFadden-Machine-Ultimate-Clip-Loader/dp/B004YF931Y

Basically, you just place the ammo in the loader and shake. Then, place the magazine on a table, and 'pump' the device up and down on top of it. It should be pretty easy to do 1 handed, even easier if you have the ability to use your other hand to 'control' things a little (even without strength).

u/3Vyf7nm4 · 1 pointr/CCW

I gifted an EZ to each of my parents. It's an excellent little pistol.

The reduced strength needed to rack the slide is significant and a very excellent feature of this gun.

The EZ tabs on the mag are a miss in my opinion. A MagLula would be much better and much easier on your fingers. Being able to push the follower down underneath the rounds causes them to become misaligned and is generally just a mess to me.

I gave my folks a loader made by Hilljack to work around the EZ posts.

Howard Leights are awesome.

Uplula is awesome

This little bastard for loading MK III mags is super awesome and very cheap

u/TheBlindCat · 16 pointsr/guns

Colt 1911 from Sarco made in 1933 and an old Ruger Standard.

I haven't run the Colt with hollowpoints yet, but it's eaten FMJ without problems. All I did was knock the rust out of it, change the grips for used old walnut, and put Wilson Combat springs in it. Runs Chip McCormick and Wilson Combat mags just fine. You can just barely read the markings on the left side. On the right, Colt is clearly visible but half the pony is gone and the rest is pretty faded. Serial number is untouched though.

The Ruger is a Standard that was the second generation, ~1974, made after the original stamping equipment wore out, so the magazine follower button is on the same side as a Mk II or III. This means I can use the Ultimate Clip (sic) Loader. This pistol eats everything and is a tack driver. It's been the first gun that more than a few people have shot, great for teaching.

If you're serious you should consider doing a little research on reloading your own ammunition. In Canada its quite cost effective when compared to buying a box from a store. There are many more perks, that I won't get into here, but price and sustainability are two at the top of my list.

Probably the cheapest way to start would be with a Lee Loader kit for your ammunition type ( http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00162TJBC). This won't allow you to do full neck resizing (so best to stick to reloading only brass that was fired from your M28) but there are plenty of more options (somewhat more expensive) that will allow you to reuse any 7.62x54 brass. That means you can do what I do and scour the local shooting range every couple of weeks during hunting season. I have bags of Win 308 sitting around from doing just that.

At any rate SAVE ALL THE BRASS YOU SHOOT. It might come in handy someday. Also, I wouldn't be all that worried about shooting your rifle. If you don't intend to sell it (and I get the feeling you don't) then use it.

Woohoo! I've never been gifted, unfortunately. Oh well, that's life!

My word is "skivool" skih-vuul (verb). To skivool is to slide across a hardwood or tile floor in socks. Usage:

"Dude, you just skivooled so hard I thought you were going to crash!"

"Man I just skivooled all across that floor in m new socks."

Either one of these items would be great!

This is the RAE-711 MPX speedloader. I bought it in hopes of saving my oh so delicate thumbs for PCC competition and courses.
It cost $25 on Amazon and was eligible for Prime free shipping.
Pros:

  • Relatively cheap
  • It actually works (see below)
  • My thumbs are not as chewed up after loading 500 rounds in a couple days
  • I haven't broken it yet
    Cons:
  • It feels 3d printed cheap
  • The mag has to be perfectly aligned to press the rounds in. Much easier to do sitting on a solid surface.
  • I'm not sure it's any faster than just loading mags the regular way

Overall I'm not sure it's any faster than just loading mags, but it keeps your thumbs off the metal feed lips so there's that.
I wish it had a way to pick up rounds out of a box ala Yetiwurks CZ Scorpion speedloader.
    Link to the product
I'm not affiliated in any way.

Ruger be all the way. Eats everything I've ever ran through it. But the biggest benefit is the mag loader called the cliploader
It says it works with buckmark mags but something about the mag shape didn't work right for me, maybe it will work for you. It definitely works with Ruger mags and can really help you burn through some .22 quickly!

u/alfonzo_squeeze · 1 pointr/guns

Yes! I'm assuming they're practically the same as Buckmark mags... Do you hold down the follower when you put them in or just push them in from the top? I just use my left thumb to push down the follower while I load with my right hand and the rounds drop right in.

You can also buy a cheap "speedloader" that does the same thing, like this one, but if you can figure out how to use your thumb there's no real advantage as far as I can tell. Another option, which I would already own by now if I weren't such a cheap bastard, is this Ultimate "Clip" Loader. I've used something similar for 10/22 mags and they make reloading MUCH faster. Very simple to use as well.

u/Boomer8450 · 2 pointsr/Glocks

Yes.

My OEM loader was a little bit crooked. It occasionally managed to get 2 rounds to stay on the same side of the mage, instead of zig-zagging like they're supposed to.

I also like HKS loaders (especially if I'm loading a bunch, like the night before a match). They're mag-specific, so not as versatile as the UpLula, but even faster and easier IMHO.

+1 on the speed loader comment. MakerShot has a good one that’s pretty cheap on Amazon. UpLula is great, but this little guy works just fine for me.

I like to have enough mags so that I can reload all of them during cease fires at my local shooting range. Here in California with 10 round magazines, it is also nice to have 5 mags so a box of 50 rounds can be loaded up at once... Then again, for my Browning Buckmark I have a speed loader and only need one magazine... I can burn through WAY too much ammo with that setup!

u/shromkuc · 1 pointr/EDC

These ones. they work great without being crazy expensive.

u/500SL · 5 pointsr/1022

I’ve used this Butler Creek loader for years.

Works great.

This Tokyo Marui loader works very well.

I have had mine for a long time and it has always worked great.

u/Dolphlungegrin · 5 pointsr/gundeals

Pretty much decided to hop on the mag loader game. Is this a good buy or should I look for something else?

Also: The pistol version is a 46 cents cheaper on amazon (after shipping) https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-ETS-Universal-Magazine-Calibers/dp/B078Z3NLD8

u/TauntedZombs · 34 pointsr/Rainbow6

The gun is an X7 Phenom, with a bunch of aftermarket parts but this may help you out:

Hopefully this helps you out!

Thanks for the heads up on the magazines. I actually have one of these coming on Thursday: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS120UH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aAebBbY6X5MR2

I like this guy for ruger magazines. They even have one for buckmark guns.

How is the magazine compatibility with the previous gen? I fits the same mags, this thing or something like it is handy. Buy some extra mags too.

I have the mk III version of the same gun, and it is my favorite one to shoot. I have pulled off some crazy trick shots with the stock sights on that thing, and I've even put a few different sights on the rail and used it to control squirrel populations at long distances.

Get an ultimate clip loader and you'll love it even more: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004YF931Y

"Glover liners" is what you're looking for. You will get them in basic training so idk if I would buy them unless you really want them.

u/lil_bunni_fufu · 2 pointsr/guns

Three words, Ultimate clip loader. You will not regret it.

u/netchemica · 0 pointsr/ar15

I feel like you're trying to use a 22lr rifle as a tactical rifle.

My 10/22 has been dead nuts reliable, where as my two buddies with 15-22s frequently have stoppages when we go to the range. Accuracy out of the box is better on the 15-22, but there's a large amount of aftermarket barrels available for the 10/22 that will blow anything available on the 15-22 out of the water.

I'm not concerned about the magazine changes being slightly more difficult on the 10/22, I'm never going to defend my house against zombie squirrels, so the extra .2 seconds it takes makes no difference.

As far as loading them, I use a speed loader, makes going through a brick of ammo pretty painless.

u/dyanx · 2 pointsr/guns

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YF931Y/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

Loads a .22LR clip in 5 seconds and without any sore thumbs.

Course, it's mainly for Mark IIIs, so not applicable everywhere...

u/Szalkow · 2 pointsr/gundeals

This version works for most stick mags. For the 10/22 you'll want one of these.

u/trs21219 · 3 pointsr/Glocks

Also, if you get a MKIII/IV you need to get this. Cuts the mag loading time down to about 2 seconds without destroying your hands with the follower.

Downside is that you go through a 325rd box in like 15 minutes without realizing it.

u/sewiv · 2 pointsr/reloading

Classic loader includes dies, and you use a dipper rather than a scale. Don't need a bench, either.

http://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision-7-62-54-Loader/dp/B00162TJBC

u/Close_Your_Eyes · 1 pointr/dayz

This one's a far simpler design and cheaper, still saves your fingers but not as fast:

http://www.amazon.com/HKS-22-R-Caliber-Magazine-Speedloader/dp/B0013R9UOQ/

u/hobitopia · 1 pointr/MosinNagant

I've a full reloading set-up. Although if you wanted to do this on the cheap, a lee loader in 7.62x54r and a bullet puller is all you'd need.

u/juaquin · 1 pointr/guns

Talking about the Ruger Mk mags? If so, this will help. I normally shoot 5 sheets with 5 targets on each, one magazine per. So 25 targets and 250 rounds, and 25 reloads. Doesn't hurt all all with the speedloader.

u/P-01S · 2 pointsr/guns

I use one of these. It's a bit pricier, but loads Mk II/III magazines extremely fast, without the risk of denting cases by snapping the follower shut.

Of course, that's only when it works. The Cliploader chokes on some types of ammo, depending on whether it is copper coated or not, and what sort of lubricant (if any) is used on lead round nose.
