Your planned setup sounds pretty similar to mine, so hopefully this helps. Good luck!

Tent: 2x2 seems just right if you plan on growing one or two plants for personal use. 4' is quite short, though -- I have a 2x2x5.5, and the extra foot and a half makes a tremendous difference when you count vertical space for containers, carbon filters, keeping lights 18"-ish from the canopy, and so on. Even taller wouldn't hurt. (I have a Secret Jardin DR60 II tent, though I don't think it's anything special.)

For example, the Mephisto strain guide says Cosmic Queen can get 60-100cm under HPS/CMH. While plants can end up a bit shorter under LEDs, 2-3'-ish could get tight in a 4' tent. Doable, but you'd also have to stay on top of training. (I'd recommend doing LST even with a taller tent, because it can increase yield a lot. Also I find it really fun.)

Light: I have an HLG QB288v2 (3000k), which is essentially the same as the 125w from Kingbrite. It seems absolutely perfect for that size tent. (The 240w is wider than a 2x2 tent.)

Carbon filter: This was a sticking point for me initially, because my hydro shop screwed up and recommended a filter that was too long to fit in my tent (oops), followed by a replacement filter whose CFM wasn't high enough for my fan, so it was only like 80% effective in flower (double oops). This carbon filter is 210 CFM, isn't too long to fit, seems well made, and is still reasonably inexpensive. Phresh filters are great too, but cost a lot more.

Fan: I have a Can-Fan S-400, which seems solid and has a 5 year warranty, but you can probably find something quieter and less expensive. (I keep hearing people recommend an AC Infinity fan, but haven't used one.) Since it doesn't have a built-in speed controller, I use an analog voltage transformer to make it slower/quieter. The cheap external fan speed controllers work by flipping the AC power on and off very quickly (pulse width modulation), which can be really hard on some types of motors, and also tents to make them loudly buzz. Actually smoothly reducing the voltage works much better. That controller is more expensive, but it's the kind of electronics gear I could probably sell used years down the line.

Containers: I grow in coco, which tends to use slightly smaller volumes (I like 2-3 gallons for autos), but from what I've read 3-5 gallons of soil sounds like a good fit? Check out the Mephisto grow guide. Fabric pots work well, though mine have gotten grungy between the roots and salt buildup, and cleaning them is a pain. I started using airpots instead, and I like them a lot more.

Mephisto: Those sound like great choices. If you get order direct and get a couple more, you'll get several freebies, typically some great one-off crosses you can't get any other way. (They only do bitcoin payment at the moment, though.) Fugue State is my favorite strain so far, but there are many good options. You might want to also check out Daz Mephisto's Night Owl Seeds side project (which can take other forms of payment). I'm growing Zamaldelica Express right now.

Welcome to growing your own weed. It's the best hobby ever. Thanks for doing some research before asking questions. Let's look at your questions:

> Will this setup let out any smell from the tent?

You will have very minimal, but not absolutely undetectable smell outside the tent. I would expect no smell outside of your 6x12 room. When you open your tent during flower, there will be a strong pleasant fresh weed odor.

> If I had to go out of town for any reason, would the room still function fine with the door and window both closed for 2-3 days? (Assume I would need a dehumidifier and AC unit)

You should be A-OK for 3-4 days unattended with no special arrangements aside from watering before you leave. Yes, you should expect to need a dehumidifier and A/C unit. A window A/C is usually preferable to central air, because it keeps the air in the 6x12 room isolated from the air in the rest of the house.

With the fan/blower you linked, yes, it would be pretty noisy. I would suggest you upgrade to this 6" blower/filter and get the speed controller. It makes for smooth, quiet operation on reduced speed.

If you get an oversized blower and run it on reduced speed, it should be quiet enough for you.

None that we know of.

You need to watch your power budget for sure. You probably have one 15 or 20 amp circuit to that room, which limits you to 1800 or 2400 watts. Your grow tent will eat up 600 watts. A 5000 BTU window A/C uses another 600 watts. That leaves you with 600-1200 watts to run your computer. If you throw a dehumidifier in there, and everything starts running at once, you could start tripping breakers. I would suggest you find out what size circuit is feeding your room. It's going to be close.

A taller tent is always better. Especially with the CMH light fixture, which likes a little extra room. If you can get a taller tent, then get it. That said, if your plant training is on point, you can make it work with any strain.

Yes, you can trim at your desk 2x2 desk. It's a smelly process and the smell can linger for a couple days. If you do it with a fan in the window you can keep odor to a minimum.

Yes. Most indoor tent growers dry in the tent.

Growing is not for everyone, but if you have the disposition for it, it's a wonderful, wonderful hobby. If you buy weed regularly it will save you a ton of money. I think you should go for it.

Wow, this is like my situation (only mine was worse). I spent hours and hours researching ductwork, and I can help you.

There are some basic concerns with flex duct. It can be used in attics, but most pros suggest not because it is installed wrong all of the time.

Flex duct needs to be as straight as possible and as short as possible, period. Any turns cannot be sharp, and manufacturers recommend that each turn curve at least enough to fit one diameter duct in the curve area. In other words, look at where your 90-degree turn is. Can you stick the round end of your duct inside the curve? If not, that curve is too steep. And every 'good' turn adds about 10-feet worth of duct in extra resistance.

Flex duct also is inherently more resistant than hard pipe. Flex has the spiral support inside, and that creates friction. Yes - get rid of excess.

Flex needs to be properly supported. This means you should not have more than 1/2" of sag every 5 feet. Yes, you read that right. Support it properly so there essentially is no sag. Sag is more resistance.

How is the flex coming off the plenum? Directly? Because that's not optimal. Ideally, you should have hard pipe off your starter collar from the plenum and then attach the flex to the hard pipe. The same with your "boots," meaning the end of the flex that goes to the vents. That boot and flex should not attach in such a way as to crimp or turn the flex too steeply.

But this is just ductwork. Try this and see if it helps, which it should if you have very cold other rooms, because those rooms have some air to give up that the other rooms can take when you install dampers.

But I have a feeling that your system was not designed properly, and you probably have some insulation problems. Where are your returns? Where are your supplies located in the rooms? Are the ducts insulated, is the attic insulated? Are the rooms insulated? Is your system large enough to supply the volume of air you need for the heat gain of the house?

Also, here is how I learned to connect duct properly. I'm writing what took me hours and hours to learn, and included talking to experts in Chicago.

1. From the plenum, spread HVAC mastic around the starter collar, put the collar in the hole, and bend the tabs in. Put more mastic around the exterior of the collar connection to completely seal it. USE A FAN AND GOOD VENTILATION. It will mess your head up.
   
   
2. Put UL LISTED METAL TAPE over the mastic, then use 3 sheet metal screws.
   
   I will write that again, because it's important. You want both a chemical bond and a mechanical bond. Mastic is chemical, tape/screws are mechanical.
   
   
3. From the collar, attach a short piece of hard pipe, or you can pass that up and use a hard elbow. Again, mastic, tape, screws. Screws last, because it shows inspectors that you have them. Otherwise, the tape covers it.
   
   
4. Attach flex to hard pipe with mastic and plastic ties, tightened really well. Remember to support everything when it is drying so it does not move around by sagging or the weight of the duct pulling on something.
   
   
5. At the boot, attach the flex with mastic and plastic ties. There is a really great product http://www.amazon.com/FlexRight-Durable-Elbow-Support-Flexible/dp/B006UWGHEU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341203430&sr=8-2&keywords=flex+duct+support. Use these at the boot.
   
   
6. INSULATION - is a must. I didn't touch this, but use the sliding wraps for hard pipe, and be sure there is NO INSULATION showing. Fold the vapor barrier (the metal material on the outside of the insulation) in and under the fiberglass and then tape the pieces of insulation to each other.
   
   Also, when you tape, make sure each piece goes all the way around and touches back onto itself, or it will fall off eventually. I learned this the hard way.

I remember when this used to be pages of people growing with tube light T4s for seedlings and CFLs for cheap grows.

Either way you need a budget. Let's say $175 for fun.

Go to a hardware store and get the cheapest 10 pack of LED bulbs. Get a power strip and some adapters to build one of these with those LED bulbs. You can fit 8 bulbs on a good power strip, save 2 bulbs for replacements if you want. That's 80W of LED from the wall for like $15-$20.

Get a tent. Here's a 2x2x4 for $38.. A tent will be easier than building anything, especially for the price.

With that small of a tent, you won't need a 6" fan, but if you think you'll get a big tent some day you may want to consider one. Get a 4" inline fan. Here's one on Amazon for $45, that comes with a speed controller to turn down (make quieter).

If you can't have your whole house smelling, you need a quality carbon filter. Here's an ok filter for $36 that will match your fan. It should last you a grow or 2.

You're at $139..

Container: Rubbermaid 20 gal Brute Bin

Lights: Kingbrite 60 W Quantum Board (if you want dimmable, ask for a dimmable driver like the HLG-60H-36B and a potentiometer)

Screws: You'll need lots of nuts, long screws, washers, and spacers to mount the board and PSU. First put the board on the lid and mark where to drill, then drill holes. Then put the power supply on the outside in the middle, mark and drill those hoses. Mount power supply and then flip lid over and mount the light, using long screws and nuts to hold it in place (the light should NOT touch the lid but be 1-2 inches from it, held in place by nuts). Drill small hole for power line, then connect. Finally, drill 3 inch hole for exhaust beside the light. You'll also need long screws with nuts to keep the fan and shrouds together. Be sure to use spaces anywhere the screw heads or nuts are touching the lid or the lights. For light spacers, I used rubber spaces between the nuts.

Notes: This design is very safe because it keeps all electronic components high in the bin. At the same time, using a battery powered watering system keeps you from requiring to ever open it. The lamp runs very cool. The PWM fan controller works well and keeping the air moving without using a lot of power (do NOT buy a cheap voltage modulator, I did first and it doesn't work nearly as well as the PWM controller). The Wyze cam is super cheap and lets you keep an eye on everything or make timelapses. Have fun growing your tomatoes!

I setup some filtering for my smelly resin 3d printer and I tried a 120mm fan but it wasn't strong enough. Maybe my fan was weak. Then I used a 12v bilge blower that they use on boats with a variable speed control. This is great in terms of air movement but it's noisy. Apparently, this is a good inexpensive option if you want more air movement through your filter (I'm going to switch to one of these soon unless I figure out some way to insulate my bilge blower to make it quiet):

They have multiple products -- I'm talking about the cheapest one at $26.79 at the moment (4" duct fan, 197 cfm). It would use the 4" dryer duct you mentioned (I'm using that too, works great).

I'm putting a splitter on my system to hook up to a booth/3d print handling/soldering station. I made mine out of foamcore/foam board from Dollar Tree. The portable option looks like and a plastic tub is a good idea too but I wanted something more permanent (have a small table to dedicate to it).

I'm using a similar one (one I bought was a couple bucks less but went out of stock). It completely gets rid of the resin smell so I think it would work well for stinky paints. But for acrylic, I'm sure it's overkill but I'm going to be using it for exactly that too along with my other uses.

To be 100% clear, this is how my setup works:

just want to chime in here, I was in the same boat as you. Starting out as just an experiment seeing if I could actually sprout a seed, turned into a dedicated project :p But I can tell you I didn't have any idea with like lights, tents, air filters etc. So first thing I bought was this LED , but a better option would be this Viparspectra (the one I bought though has been just fine) and just hung it in my closet with the plant, and that's it. veg'ed it for 4 weeks just like that with the light on a timer and my closet door closed. (get a little desk fan to to move some air over the leaves) Then I figured I'd switch to flower, and was kinda on the edge about investing in a tent and carbon filter. but every thread I read about smell, veterans would always say "It's gonna smell a lot!" So I bit the bullet and got a 2x2x4 tent and this carbon filter and fan . You can probably use your DIY carbon filter just fine. Anyway, long story short, I started to flower and literally two days later I walk into my house after work and the smell just hits me. And this is just one plant. So definitely invest in that stuff. But as for the PC fan, unfortunately it's not going to have enough static pressure to force air through a carbon filter. You don't have to go with the one I got, like brotha said the duct boosters will work too. I just spent the last two months bringing my crawlspace up to spec and redoing my plumbing down there.

I had the really old and really rusted shut sliding style vents.

Super easy to close with the included piece of plastic from the outside. And all the install work can be done from the outside of the house if need be.

The only problem was the netting on them has quite large holes. So I cut some screen material and hot glued it from behind to keep small bugs out.

On your automatic ones, make sure you spray them with some WD-40 to keep them moving freely. Check to make sure they close at low temperatures/humdity.

If not, go to Lowes and buy a sheet of rigid foam insulation (not styrofoam style where you can see the individual beads) and cut them to fit in from behind. If you get a snug enough fit, that should be enough for Virginia.

If it's hard to get a snug fit, cut them a little less than a 1/2" smaller and then take some pipe foam and wrap the edges of the foam board to make a picture frame to it. That should give you a nice tight seal and help to block more of the air gaps.

You will read online an equal amount of people claiming you should vent your crawlspace as well as seal it completely. Whichever you eventually choose to do, the two biggest things to deal with in a crawlspace is moisture and cold air leakage.

Make sure your you keep an eye on your vapor barrier on the floor is in good condition to keep the wet soil from emitting moisture into the air. Check your vents and close them during long days of high humidity. And get some Great Stuff expanding foam and seal any and all cracks in the foundation that you can. Go down in there on a bright sunny day and make it as dark as possible to help spot light coming thru. When it doubt if a crack or gap is leaking air, err on the side of filling it with foam.

I see you have 4" ducting but trust me you're definitely going to want to have this, thankfully 6" ducting isn't to expensive. Also buy these, so much easier than duct tape and these for managing the ducting. This and this too for supporting the inline fan and filter, the inline fan at full power will vibrate very slightly and I feel that the bungee cords help minimize vibration. I usually use zip ties for managing cords but also as a precautionary measure, I have a few loosely secured zip ties on my inline fans just in case a bungee cord were to become unsecured which that has never happened thankfully but you can never be to safe.

Okay 4 plants with good genetics can yield just as much weed as 6 plants with lesser genetics.

So here is what I recommend.

Tent: 4x4 minimum with 5x5 preferred because it gives you room to walk in the tent which saves your back and also gives you room for extra equipment inside the tent, buy Vivosun they are good quality and have excellent zippers.

that's a duct booster. it won't have the power to properly exhaust your tent, especially if you're using that filter. i would look at something more like this. i can't vouch for that fan, but it will be a lot better than the booster.
in terms of pushing or pulling, i've been told it's better to pull through the filter than to push, idk, maybe something to do with how long the carbon will stay effective. i personally have my tent setup to push through mine right now, as the fan is a lot smaller than the filter so i elected to put the filter outside. either works tbh.

I grow 2 plants per crop in a small grow tent, using this light. I also use some 4" ducting with an inline fan and a carbon filter which eliminates the smell during flowering. I just use regular potting soil, and Miracle Gro fertilizer.

In college I used to raw dog it in the closet with just a fluorescent grow light, but when the plants start to flower, they put out an unbelievable amount of smell. It's a nice smell, but here's literally no way to get by with it in an apartment.

I'd also recommend a good grow book, such as Marijuana Horticulture by Cervantes. It will really help diagnose things when something goes wrong.

With this setup I get a yield of over 2 oz cured bud per plant, so each crop is 4+ oz, and I can easily grow 3 crops per year. I get seeds from Herbie's; they ship reliably and discretely. The advantage of buying from a seed bank is that you can get some extremely powerful strains, medical strains, feminized seeds that are guaranteed female, autoflowers, etc.

If you need to do it more cheaply, you can build a r/spacebucket for $100-150 using common hardware store items. The drawback is that you can only grow 1 plant in a spacebucket, and the yield will only be 1-1.5 oz.

This really works well for me. The smell otherwise is intolerable. Carbon filters are really amazing.

If you want a list of materials you'll need, go on Google Maps and find your local hydroponics store. Any clerk at those stores will help you out. They will also help you understand the basics of a set up.

The real necessities of an indoor grow are:
A grow tent (I prefer Gorilla Grow )
A grow light (I prefer California LightWorks )
An inline ventilation system with carbon filter Link for example.

Then there are optional appliances like an indoor air conditioner or an air filter.
This completes the "set-up".

Then you have to decide what kind of grow you're planning - Soil, Coconut husk, water culturing. Typical gardening uses soil and it's what most people are used to. So unless you already understand the other stuff, start with soil.
For soil, you'll want fabric 5-gal pots with plastic drip pans underneath.
It's also recommended to get some sort of support for the plants - either a SCROG net, or a tomato cage (I prefer cages for mobility).

So you fill the fabric pots with soil, put it in your set-up grow tent. Now you need to get seeds going. There are tons of youtube videos showing this, you can google them.

That's really it. You can add nutrients to the soil, but most soil has base nutrients in it already. You really won't need to add much, and if you're not adding much; you won't need to flush really either.

Just watch the pH of you water. Cannabis likes a lower pH (around 5.8 to 6.3). You can get a cheap pH meter, but they need to be cared for. Store the probe in the storage solution and calibrate often. Hannah or Blue Labs are what I'm used to using. When you buffer the pH of a solution, remember the free h ions follow an "S" curve. What this means is adding a drop of pH down when you measure 10.1 may not move that down far (like to 10.0). But if you add a drop of pH down when you measure 7.2, it may drop much faster (like to 4.5).

Just for reference, I also found this cheaper 25' ducting you might be interested in. Approx. $15. 4" though.

I can leave my grow room open at all times if needed, and have push the air back into the hallway. I could also run the bathroom fan in the adjacent room to help pull out that air. Great idea me!

So with this setup ill keep 1 or 2 mother plants and then run the rest in SoG in 1 gallon pots. Using the 2 4000k lights for the mother plant and the cloning station and the 240w for the SoG area of the tent. Its a small setup but I think it'll work. Any idea what kinds of yeilds this could achieve? Any further input would be greatly appreciated.

Fan duct shrouds work perfectly. They’re apparently used in bitcoin mining, but are great when repurposed for swamp coolers.

Once you have the shroud mounted just slide 5” tubing over it and hose clamp it in place.

You should be able to pull that metal part down to get better reach on it.

Go to your home improvement store and buy a new hose, you want a more metal looking one.

It should come with 4" hose clamps that screw to tighten them.

It is much easier to tighten these hose clamps with a nut driver or nut.

I installed this in my 3 seasons room this year. It's not the prettiest, but I mounted the inline fan outside underneath the overhang of my roof so it won't get wet. I ran ducting into the room and attached the filter to it. The fan is rated at 442 CFM, so it moves quite a bit of air. So far it's been amazing. No smell leaks into my house any more, and the room doesn't get too smokey since it also acts as an exhaust fan.

Yeah it's a 6'' ipower fan. I got the filter hanging from the ceiling of the tent with a duct to a 6'' cooltube light, then another duct from the other end of the light going out the tent to the fan, which is sucking the air out of the tent through the light tube. Even with 4 right angles in the ducts it has strong suction

The cool tube is the shit. I have the fan turned all the way down and can hold my palm against the glass under the light and not even feel it. The temp on the floor of the tent is 70-80, the top around 65-70. The humidity goes up when the lights off, but it stays between 30-40%

Just make sure you have the same size (4 or 6 inch) filter and tubing. I have that fan with this and this and its super simple, everything fits together

I used a rubber coupler to attach the fan to the filter. The flexible ducting is clamped directly to the fan. Looking at the description of that filter I'd say its probably not going to scrub smell well. From what I've read when buying a carbon filter (more experienced people please advise) you want to look for "Australian activated charcoal" and something like "1050+ RC". Here's the link to the filter I got. Also just a heads up your light isn't actually 600 true watts, its 240W true watts which you should use as your measurement.

Have my grow in my bedroom and this muffler worked perfect.
I would also look at ac infinity fans. Quite possibly the quietest inline fan I've ever heard.

Any sort of silencer will reduce your flow at least a little. That's just how it is. You could easily rig up a ghetto silencer; create one from a box or line something that fits your fan with acoustical deadening material (egg cartons are a ghetto way to do it). In your example your spending $140 on 10 year old LED tech and getting 264W at the wall which doesn't even come close to the 40 - 50W per SF rule most people use. This $120 400W HPS will crush those Mars lights in yield and quality. This is why I say don't use LEDs unless your ready to spread that wallet wide.

Things to think about later are drying racks, jars, and trimming scissors.

If the goal is to avoid the fumes, I'd say modify a carbon filter to vent the exhaust through. I've seen several, one going so far to use ducting to attach to a large carbon filter with a 4inch in line fan to draw air through. And then at that point it really won't matter where it is for the most part.

A few other things I got locally from grow shops. Quality seeds are important. Greenpointseeds.com is always having bomb sales, ship from Colorado, and are top quality. Soil from local grow shops but can also buy from online. I went cheaper on light, but I wouldn't do that again. Get good quality lights.

Also, one more thing - I have had one seed between a few damp paper towels and two paper plates. I started that last night at 8pm CST, and still no signs of any sprout showing or any reaction. With mine you would probably be fine since there’s a door in the way for you. I can’t really hear mine if I go into another room.

The 4" Phresh filter I ordered arrived and the carbon was all broken up and leaking everywhere (Amazon reviews seem accurate). I tried to install it anyway but my ducting is 4" and even though they listed their filter as 4", it wouldn't fit.

I measured the filter where the ducting attaches and it was 4 1/8"....so I returned it.

I ordered a different filter and it's 100% better than my old Vivosun filter, eliminate my smell issues outside the tent completely and I'm in almost week 4 of flower.

Like /u/blackboard mentioned, purchase a carbon filter (4" or 6" depending on size of your setup/plant total) and also get the matching duct (4" duct for 4" filter and vice versa). Also, pick up an inline-fan. A simple and effective way to set it up is to connect fan to the filter, then connect the duct to the fan so it sucks the air through the filter and through the duct, out of the tent. If you have a grow light that is set up to be cooled, just connect the light to be in between the filter and the fan. Make sure you hang or attach the carbon filter higher up in you tent/box, so it removes the hot air. Vent the duct (which is blowing out the warm/stinky air to the outdoors if possible. You can have another inline-fan/duct setup blowing into the tent, but it is not necessary. Just make sure that you have a hole or small opening on the lower, opposite side of your box for fresh air to get sucked in to replace the hot stinky air that your blowing out through the filter/fan/duct.

To add onto this, you can get a silencer for it. So put it in a box with that sticking out the end and it should be pretty quiet. For even more sound reduction insulated ducting as well and if you're still having problems idk what to say.

If you aren’t planning on getting a bigger tent I would stick with a 4” exhaust and a 4”/6” carbon filter. Here’s the link for the fan and one for the filter . I use a bigger fan and filter personally, but that’s because I plan on getting a bigger tent after my third or fourth grow. Based on the dimensions of your tent this should be a solid setup for you even if you go up a bit in the future.

I'm just going to assume running an air conditioner or cooling device is out of the question. There are ways to lower temperature without necessarily increasing energy consumption. You can try using some ducting to move the hot air out of the room where you keep your miner. Take a look at these HERE. Simply detach the fan on the rear of the S9 and screw those on. You can even use the same screws the S9 came with. Then attach some ducting, maybe something like THIS, and you can take the hot hair away from the machine.

If that is not an option, I would consider not running the machines during the day. If you have to run hot machines, you want to stay under 100°C. You do not want to run them to the point where they can reach the 115°C automatic shut off point. If they automatic shut off you are almost guaranteed to have fried chips.

I also live in an apartment. I've got a Photon, I used my Ender 3 to print this vent adapter and attached 4" dryer duct and an inline fan to it and vented it outside. Luckily my place is kind of dumpy, and I have a piece of plywood in the space that's left from my window AC, since I have sliding windows.

Honestly, the smell of isopropyl tends to be worse.

Hi there. I went with that combo because some of the cheaper combos had pretty poor ratings on FakeSpot, but that's really the only reason. If you have a cheaper (and reliable) combo, I'd certainly take a look!

Okay. Do you think I would be sacrificing any "noob-friendliness" by ditching the peat pellets on my first go? I know you can just dump the seed into the medium, but I want to "get it right" my first time and reduce the margin of error. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Well.. If that's not working you should just buy the cheapest carbon filter + fan on amazon and be done with it IMO.

Although, even with a good filter and fan you have to have some negative pressure meaning that you have to suck out more air than you pull in. If you can't get negative pressure then the smell can leak out. If you have a tent and you get a real fan and filter you'll see the walls suck in when you close the tent and that means theirs negative pressure.

I also have one small intake fan in the port on the bottom and I am exhausting out the port on top of the tent out my grow room window.

Do you notice how the tube florescent on the right hand side of this image Imgur looks like it comes out of the tent I meant to do that, reason being is when I have the exhaust running even at half speed the negative pressure sucks in the slack in the tent walls decreasing my grow area. With the light jammed in there the negative pressure cant suck the walls in.

It was either this or spend more money on a bigger intake fan.

Yes, it's illegal to distill alcohol for personal consumption; owning a still is not illegal. The reason I bring the Kingston court case up is because it is treated in much the same way as possession of cannabis in most areas - the courts at large don't care unless you're selling, hence it being an outdated law.

As for home grows being restricted in Colorado - of course they are, that's how the law was written; stating that it's restricted because it's not safe but that renters require permission whereas homeowners do not is arguing false cause. It's basically the same argument for having pets in a rental - some areas allow it by law, some do not (at least in the US); in addition it also give added 'protection' for landlords who are victimized by illegal grow ops. But that's the US and this is Canada.

The reason for flagging illegal grow ops is obvious; if you don't have to worry about living in a place, chances are you don't worry about spreading dirt, water and everything else around, hacking up the wiring and causing a mess. A future buyer has a right to know if there may be water damage or potential future mold issues due to this.

What you're not seeing -again- is the thousands of Canadians who already grow their own and you'd never be the wiser to it. You talk about Colorado having all the "best" equipment for growing, which is completely false. Spend 5 minutes searching the yellowpages of your city and I guarantee you that you will find a Hydroponics center if your city is larger than 50 000 people.

Even still, the Internet brings the very best equipment right to your doorstep and totally private unless a warrant is issued for your financials.

Combine all of the above with a GFCI outlet and a surge protected power bar and you're all set up to grow with an extremely low risk of water damage or fire. Add a basic small dehumidifier and zero mold. The argument against it due to risk of property damage is silly. You could make the same argument against house plants or home aquariums, try taking away either of those.


Finally, why should we let people grow their own?

Because, if we don't we create yet another class of criminal; Allowing 4-6 plants per adult for personal use is the best way to avoid further criminalizing people - people will do it either way, the surest way to increase risk is to force it underground. If you stomp on people's ability to do for themselves instead of regulating it, bad things happen.
