I was Xbox forever, started a new job on the road and decided to go for the switch as well for portability. Good choice.

Must Buys Accessories:

Screen protector - there is a 2 pack on amazon:

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XMpaCbKXMWRXR

SD card (if going digital with games) - maybe go 256gb, amazon has a sale on them, you only need U1 speeds for the switch:

SanDisk 256GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 100MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, Micro SD Card - SDSQUAR-256G-GN6MA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0758NHWS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GOpaCbW67RGST

Carrying cases - I have two, one for the whole collection (switch, joycons, dock, charger, hdmi):

Pro controller - easier to play games in docked mode than the joycons.

Smash is out next Friday, but it looks like the best game of the year material.

Pokémon Let’s Go is a spin off, remake of yellow version, but it is a great game. Maybe not $60 great for gameplay, but for nostalgia. I’d say a fair price is around $40.

Games suggested:

Must Play Exclusives:

Zelda: BOTW (10/10) little bit of a learning curve, but open world game with 100+ hours of content

Super Mario Odyssey (9.5/10) very laid back and at times almost too easy, but overall very fun and creative. 30 hours of content

—————

Exclusives W/ Friends or Online:

Mario Kart 8 (9/10)

Super Mario Party Switch (8.5/10)

—————

Other Top Tier Exclusives:

Splatoon (8.5/10) (may be stressful online, but awesome game for both online play and “salmon runs”)

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (8.5/10) (tough game but such awesome level design, music; this game can become frustrating)

Mario Rabbids (8.5/10) (fun game, again, can become frustrating as it is a strategy, turn based game with Nintendo characters)

Pokémon Let’s Go (8.5/10) (fun game, super nostalgic trip back to the past of Pokémon origins but now in 3D with alolan forms)

We still don’t know about Super Smash Bros Ulitmate, but I can’t imagine it won’t be a 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

Golf story is the next exclusive game I’ll be getting some time down the road, very hit or miss with people however.

Disclaimer: I don’t really get non exclusives on switch, as I can get them on PC for cheap 9/10 times (except red dead). Also, I do not care for JRPG’s, so I can’t comment on Xenoblade, Octopath, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter etc.

As others have pointed out, indies are great for the Switch, not too demanding to require further CPU or GPU Power to hinder gameplay, but you will pay the “Nintendo tax”. This is that Nintendo hardly has sales on games. But the point of the Switch is gaming on the go, so it’s a good trade off. If that’s not your reasoning, then stick with indies on stronger consoles or PC.

Joycons are not too small, I would pair them with these if you want to use them single player (like Mario kart or Mario party):

When attached to the switch in handheld mode, you can use this to help:

As someone who's owned a Switch since launch, I say the joycon and comfort grip are fine i'll try to put this in sections.

Controller: You can try the pro controller, but in my experience with the two i've bought, I've found that the left stick if you flick it on direction it bounces back the other direction, you may not find this to be an issue right away, but it caused a lot of issues for me when playing Sonic Mania and other games that require quick stick movement.

Cases: If you can get your hand on the Zelda Special Edition case that'd be great, but otherwise [This](https://www.amazon.com/TAKECASE-Nintendo-Switch-Case-Microfiber-Guarantee /dp/B06XYPPJ6M/ref=pd_cp_63_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RBHQCTFZSKGBBVMX8GZ2) and This seem to be pretty good hefty cases.

Also This protective slim case should serve as nice armor to protect it from scratches.

Games: Personally i'd reccomend, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 (my fav), Sonic Mania, Mario Kart 8, Snipperclips (if you have someone to play with), these are all games I mostly enjoy, i'd recommend ARMS as well, but i found the game more frustrating than fun.

Screen Protector: This one shall do they're all mostly the same, just different price points and popularity, the on difference between some is tempered glass vs plastic.

I say always go with Tempered glass, unless you prefer the plastic for one reason or another

Using the Hori pro pad for almost all my fighting games on switch (and as a player 2 on steam) Great stick over all. I don't like the color so I am thinking about doing something with it??? but I'm not sure what art I want yet. Here is a run down of how I think it works with each game I have played it with.

|BBxTAG beta|Great|works well on default controls. |
|:-|:-|:-|
|Ultra Street Fighter 2|Good|You will need to change the controls to type B, Works great after adjustment|
|Waku Waku 7 SNK classic|OK| you will need to adjust the inputs before playing. Works great after adjustment, but some experimenting was required|
|GunBird|Great|works well out of the box, very simple game so no adjustment needed for me|
|Namco museum|Great|Perfect pacman, need I say more. |
|Pokken Torment |Poor|Game runs great after set up. The control set up was not intuitive in anyway and there is no preset. Controls must be set up in training mode (or V.S./single player) and always go back to default after turning off the game. You can play well with the arcade stick but I found the Wii U game pad to by easier and better.|
|Super Bomber Man R|Great|So we used this in a pinch to get 8 player bomber man. Worked better then expected, no adjustment needed.|
|Sonic Mania, Shantae Half Genie Hero, Puyo Puyo Tetris. Games that don't need the Right A-stick|Very Good|No adjustment needed and plays responsively. I still preferred the game pad and even the pokken Wii U controller for a more classic feel. However I will say any game that isn't using the 2nd A-stick works pretty well.|

I just recently did a lot of research myself on the Switch and the options. This is what I have to say:

With the Lites, each would have "their own" and could play at the same time.
With Nintendo Family, there will be elements of game sharing available, but you will still be buying mult copies of games at times.

Just one Switch Red box, will limit them to playing together. With a WiiU and the 2 3DS's, they will have options, although the switch is the cooler new thing, and they will want more facetime with that.

One thing to mention is, the Switch Red Box will come with a dock to hook up to a TV. While the Lite's do not. Also, I would recommend researching 3rd party docks. I did recently and with some of the results, I only feel comfortable with the Nintendo Dock. Which is another $100 I think.

Sidenote: You might look at this guy 8Bitdo This plugs into the switch and allows you to use an existing PS4 controller (or xbone with BT) with your switch. They also make 3rd party controllers as well. Since you're a PS4 dad, you might have an extra, and if you want to join in on some SMASHBROTHERS!!! you can use your own controller and feel comfortable. (also recommend Breath of the Wild...but you might take over your kids new Switch once you try it)

Also to clarify, I don't have a Switch yet; hoping I can hold out for Black Friday and get a good deal (if there are any) on the console. Got a friend that loaned us his to try...yeah, its nice. You might buy a Switch Red Box, 8BitDo, and a Switch Lite....so you have two Switch's for the kids, and well....the Red Box for you/kids to share. I am a PC gamer and the Switch has me pumped to try it out/play some games on it.

I travel frequently and went with one of the DIY Switch dock case solutions. Here's a link to the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0759CH5Q3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Take the reviews with a grain of salt since most of the negative reviews are by people who thought they were getting a fully functional dock rather than just an empty DIY dock case. Some of these negative reviews are so poorly worded that I wonder whether they were written by one of the many competitor DIY dock sellers.

Anyway, I chose this dock case because it had a bit more ventilation than the Basstorp model and this one also retains the Switch dock's spring mounting plate rather than just a flat USB-C adapter surface. Like several other DIY docks, this one comes with the mini-screwdrivers and screws you will need for the conversion. I'm not very tech-savvy when it comes to DIY computer stuff, but I was able to do this conversion without any problems within 20-30min (of super super paranoid careful work). Someone with more confidence could easily do it in 10-15min.

The DIY dock cases are currently the only 100% safe travel dock solution since their electronics are 100% Nintendo-made. I've heard good things about the Insignia dock from Best Buy, but it is still bigger than this DIY type of dock. This one could fit in your pocket.

Good luck with your search!

Awesome! Congrats! You'll love it.

A few things I'm glad I got: glass screen protector.

Edit: hit the send button accidentally. :)

I returned THREE cases I didn't like for various reasons, but I just got the Switch Takecase on Amazon after loving their 3ds case, and I couldn't be happier. Because it's a new product, it's cheap (for now; jump on the deal they've got), and there aren't as many reviews, but I can't recommend it highly enough. Room for a charger and games, solid construction, etc.

The JoyCon with grip (or without) are fantastic, and you'll be just fine without a Pro Controller. But when it's in your budget, get one. It's fantastic. Again, the JoyCon are great.

Shovel Knight!! Snipperclips!! And yes, it looks like Nintendo will be pulling a ton of other indies into the platform.

Enjoy your Switch!

This post got a bit longwinded because I'm a bit passionate on this subject, sorry. The PC gamepad space was a nightmare before Valve singlehandedly fixed it all. It used to be "Buy an Xbox pad or get out." Or as you said, "no other controller compares with it."

So Valve made the other controllers compare with it. Arguably, it's actually become the weakest and most feature-deprived controller these days now that other controllers are allowed to compete with native support across the board, because the only real advantage it had was that every game natively supported it. It has no gyro, no touchpad, and the least amount of usable buttons out of all the major controllers. I'd make an Epic Store comparison, but I have better things to talk about:

Beyond just adding support for every controller under the sun, the amount of control Steam Input gives you is incredible. Anything you could think of, and dozens of things you never thought of and never knew you needed. You can make it so that buttons behave differently based on whatever else is being pressed. A common thing to do is to bind the Back button with various other buttons for things like volume, playlist control, alt tabbing, etc.

If you have a PS4 pad or a Steam Controller (or any future controller that adds touchpads) you can add Touch Menus to them. These are fully customizable:

Example One

Example Two

Example Three

If you don't have a touchpad, you can use Radial Menus instead, which work similarly but with a stick instead of a touchpad.

My personal favorite use is for a Steam Controller which I configured to use the gyro for precise aiming, but have it only enabled while my thumb on the right touchpad so it only moves when I want it to move, and the sensitivity drops if I half-pull my trigger for lining up the shot. It makes using a controller in an FPS actually bearable, even enjoyable at times.

And again: Valve developed all of this as part of the software suite for their own controller, and then just natively supported all other controllers for all features that they're reasonably capable of. The PS4 and Switch Pro controllers can use Gyro, PS4 can use Touchpad, etc. They went out of their way to improve the competition for their own product because it was better for their customers. The end result was that they wanted controllers to be better, they didn't care how we got there.

Hell, at the beginning of this year they randomly added support for PowerA's Gamecube-style Switch Pro controller. It blew my mind, I did not expect them to add official support shortly after release for this obscure third party controller, but they did.

That's why I don't like Epic. Epic would never do any of this. That's why they're not interested in being better, they're not interested in actually competing. They're interested in giving you no other options. You don't have to be better if you're the only choice. That's why I don't value their "competition" at all. We don't need them. We were doing fine until they came along and started screwing everything up.

The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

I think most of your questions depend on how you plan to use your Switch. For me, 99.9% of the time I use it in handheld mode, so accessories important for my usage are different than someone who primarily uses it in docked mode.

u/IndomitableBanana · 7 pointsr/smashbros

Purists will hate this suggestion (and the controller is far from perfect) but the PowerA Wireless GameCube Controller is the best third party controller I have used. Better than the Hori Battlepad and WAY better than the PDP Fight Pad Pro.

NB: You’re never going to get the same quality or feel of a first party controller going this route and you will definitely be more prone to dropped inputs, etc. But especially if you’re looking for a casual option that delivers a decent wireless experience with the GameCube form factor (plus home and share buttons) IMO, this is the best option.

u/Ludovsky · 1 pointr/Games

I have a Switch and I have to say the console itself is fine, but it's clear a massive miscalculation was made with the original design of the joycon. The Gamepad Pro so far seem much more durable(I've used the same since 2017 and it's only just finally beginning to experiences slightly less precises controls in one of the joysticks and that was mostly fixed with just a bit of calibration). However that might be because it actually uses what's likely a very different component model than the one that troubles joy-cons the most.

As it turn out, the faulty component(the joystick) is not even one Nintendo had designed themselves but is instead purchased from mass supplier. It's literally a "standard" third party model that was made for a variety of uses...

... and was likely never made by that supplier for durability due to the resistor pad inside the joystick box being made from graphite that metal component will literally dent and scratch over time.

Considering the tiny size of the joystick, I assume it was selected(though I have no ideas if Nintendo were originally aware of the weak nature of the internals of the joysticks boxes) primarily due to it's small size as to allow room for the much more advanced HD rumble(more advanced than even the Gamepad Pro's) in the pair and IR camera found in one ontop of the NFC sensor found in the other joycon.

All this said, it does mean that if you can find any third party model that use a different stick design though, they might be more durable than Nintendo's joycons and perhaps even cheaper than Nintendo's offering... since most third parties will have removed the more costly components/features of the controllers which is to say the forementioned HD Rumble/IR camera/NFC sensor.

Personally I've started the search myself even though my current joycons have yet to experience drift so I can preemptively make sure I have a more durable backup before I even get there. Though the tough part for me is to specifically find a pair that could support being used in handheld play which is my primary use for joycons.

My Gamepad Pro is still fine though, but I might still pick a new third party controller for a similar role though albeit different
reasons.
My dad's actually begun to play some games himself but while he's finally just starting to get the hang of 3D cameras, he still struggle to remember once in a while which button do what. But recently I fell upon a third party controller that's basically a modernized Gamecube controller updated with four shoulder buttons, motion control and a proper joystick instead of a C-stick, but otherwise retained the same controls layout.... including the extremely clear button identification layout with that massive green A button, that instantly noticeable red B and the X and Y butons to either sides of the top of the green A. It even got updated to have the screenshot/home buttons of Switch controllers too: https://www.amazon.ca/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3?th=1

BotW is FANTASTIC!! It's incredibly immersive and looks gorgeous! There's a ton of things to do, and unlike some games with that option, I never get the feeling of obligation to do the side stuff. You WANT to go do it.

Now for the Switch. First things first, order a screen protector. The thing isto be a portable game system, so you'll want to take it places without worrying about meant damage. I didn't, and now have a small scratch on the screen (possibly from the dock, probably from carrying it in a bag with a bunch of other stuff). A tempered glass screen protector will prevent that. I'd also recommend a carrying case although until they get a bunch of games released on cart, that's not so much of a necessity.

My Switch performs WONDERFULLY as a portable system. If still looks fantastic, and I get comparable play time to a 3DS (my standard for portable battery life). BotW and the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire both looked fantastic on the big screen in docked mode. I have noticed some frame lag here and there on BotW, but it's never had much impact on my play experience. Usually I only see it during "busy" times on screen (lots of trees & tall grass during heavy particulate weather effects such as a rain storm), and the recent update smoothed that out nicely.

The Switch also charges pretty quickly using it's charger (or a comparable power output charger). I have a 2A charger for cell phones in me car and USB C cable and it will keep it charged while playing on road trips (NOTE: it does not recharge it while playing, it just keeps the battery where it's at when you plug it in.)

Overall, BotW and the Switch are a definite recommend for purchase.

ANY Tempered Glass screen protector will work well. Personally I have Orzly on my Switch but have used Spigen on phones in the past. Both are top notch and have been doing screen protectors for handheld electronics forever.

..

The Docks Bands can also help ensure the Switch is not coming into contact with the dock, especially if you have younger kids.

..

The other big accessory to consider early on is a hard sided carrying case. Anyone will do. Personally I have the Hori Tough Pouch. Being a step ahead means if for some reason the Switch is leaving the house there is at least a carrying case ready.

..

If you know the Switch will be used on long road trips, etc. a battery pack like Ravpower 26800 PD is also great to have around put is much more optional.

..

In terms of the SD card, I have had my Switch since launch, have about 12 games now and buy physical cartridges when possible. I have still not exceeded the built in memory and needed an SD card. That said if you are buying one only buy from Best Buy or Amazon and if buying make sure you aren't buying from a third part seller. Also look for a UHS-I or UHS-II card (UHS = Ultra high speed). Sandisk and Samsung are two more reputable brands. In terms of size, go with the largest size that doesn't make your wallet scream as this is something you want to buy only once if possible.

u/Tallyburger · 1 pointr/AmiiboCanada

Awesome!!!
This is the one I want to get. It's not specifically game related, but it's clean and simple. I also like this a lot, but the shipping cost is $50 USD for that alone... lol

I did place an order for both, shipping to me here in Canada. I am trying to work my magic and get them to give me free shipping though lol In the end, if Amazon.ca or BB gets it, I'll cancel either way. Just wish there was some more pictures of what that bigger bag looks like.

u/JackSparrowUSA · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The only must haves are probably a screen protector and carrying case. These are good:

Case: https://www.amazon.com/ButterFox-Switch-Carrying-Cartridge-Holders/dp/B06WGSKRKL

Screen Protector: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV

Nice to Haves:
Micro SDXC Card if you plan to do a fair amount of digital games. The internal storage should last you a good bit unless you go 100% digital. If you're 100% physical type of person then you won't need an SD for a long while.

I'd give the joycons in the grip (and separated, no grip) a fair shot for a couple of weeks. If you would like improved comfort, the pro controller is excellent.

Almost all games allow for 2 player with each player using a 1 joycon. So it really depends what you want to spend. If you want more than that, then your decision is Pro Controller, extra joycons, or both.

u/yoimdumbsry · 1 pointr/Fighters

For a nice all-in-one cheap solution, I'd go with the Elite F300.

If you're willing to mod, then I'd suggest a 8bitdo N30 w/ Sanwa buttons and Sanwa joystick. This will give you the same as above but with bluetooth and I'm pretty sure it will eliminate the need for an extra controller to get it hooked up to xbox/ps.

If you're looking for something bigger but still cheap, then I would have to suggest a used Razer Panethera or Hori RAP 4 on Amazon for about 100-130. The returns on Amazon Warehouse are usually people who tried the stick for an hour or two and didn't care for it. They're usually pretty damn nice and offer around 30-40% discount. I once got a "used" display shelf that still had all the protective material on and around the shelf, like the sticker kind that you can't re-apply... so I guess somebody literally just opened the box and said well nevermind and returned it.

u/MadhuSharma1 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Which is the best slip-on case for Nintendo Switch that will also work with a play stand (so I don’t have to keep on removing the slip case each time I put it on the play stand)?

I was thinking of getting the Hori Play stand and the Orzly hybrid cover.

However, I am not sure if the Switch will fit in the play stand once the Orzly hybrid cover is on it and also if there will be enough ventilation for the slots on the back once the covered Switch in on the play stand.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

u/Velvet_Spaceman · 1 pointr/vita

You could get grips for your joy cons to make it more comfortable. There's a wealth of accessories out there for the Switch so it's pretty easy to find something that could remedy that.

These seem like a nice, cheap, comfort add that don't compromise the portability of the Switch.

I'm getting the case with the "Stater-pack" that comes with a screen protector for sure. I am super careful with my electronics but everything that can, will get a screen protector. I'll probably only use the one with the starter pack for the first month or two until I get get my hands on a glass one. I've seen so many people crack their glass screen protectors but the actual glass underneath is completely fine. It's worth the very small investment to protect something much more expensive as far as I'm concerned.

The starter kit is this one in case anyone was wondering. It even comes with silicon sleeves to protect the joy cons. I'm all about keeping my stuff looking new so it's a must have for me.

u/queuebitt · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Those kind of products are more about convenience than being the best option.

You definitely want a screen protector. The amFilm 2-pack is considered the best around here.

You also want a carrying case. I recommend either the Hestia Goods or Butterfox models. I have the former and love it. The later is the most recommended around Reddit.

Between the screen protector and case from Amazon you're at the same $20 as the starter kit. So you can either get two high quality items, or more lower (but doable) quality items.

u/Eponine05 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

So, I've had a few cases by now, but usually I find when I want to go out with my Switch, I just need the console itself and a couple games at most.

Therefore I've fallen in love with this Tomtoc Slim Hardshell Case.

It's really perfect and form fitting, super tiny, tough and looks good. 5/5.

I've been using a matte screen protector. To be fair, I don't sit out in direct sunlight and play. The few times I've been on the bus playing, when the sun was coming in the window, the matte screen protector was definitely helpful. Since it's plastic, it does take some scratches, but for the price I can always throw a new one on once in awhile. Otherwise, I love it; I honestly can't imagine how people play without it now that I have it on.

I'd personally recommend this Butterfox case. I've been using it since April and it's fantastic. A cover like the one you linked might be a hassle if you use the dock : / As for other necessities, I'd definitely recommend getting a screen protector. I love the one from Spigen.

u/MandomeLife · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Sure -- I'm using this case by RDS Industries paired with this screen protector. I bring along a USB adapter for charging my Switch when I'm working in my studio.

The case that I use is decent -- hard shell exterior, inner binding straps, and a near-edge fit keep the switch from jostling around. There's an inner mesh-bag for holding extra joycons and protected SD cards. The 2 game card holder cases that it comes with are questionable. They both hold four game cards each, and fit into crevices on one interior side of the Switch case. What doesn't work about them is that they often pop out of the crevices they were designed to fit and they never completely hold on to the game cards placed in them -- when you open the cases, the cards pop out of their place pretty easily. This got annoying to me as I took the Switch out of the case frequently, so I DIY'ed some cheap adhesives to both the outside and inside of the card holder cases, which ended up working very well. All in all, the case does its job -- I'd say that newer cases would probably be better, however, as companies have had the chance to iterate on the models they've developed. It also gets brownie points from saving my switch from a leaky bottle of water that I had in my backpack. Not sure if it's entirely waterproof, though.

u/thecoachfridge · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Get a screen protector for sure, I got this one. Then look into a case for gaming on the go. Butterfox makes an awesome carrying case and it holds 19 games.

For a first timer I would recommend to go physical. It means that you can trade things in if/when they get old to you and you will be downloading E-shop games for sure anyways.

As for games all I can say is do some research. We can all say to go get all of our favorites but you know your own taste best. I would watch some youtube videos to figure out which games are to your liking. That being said you need Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Hollow Knight, and Smash(coming soon).

This is a bit late, but your best bet at this point would be to monitor PlayAsia's listing for the upcoming pre-order. They've already sold out of their Japanese imports but the wider Asian release hasn't gone up yet.

Amazon.co.jp and AmiAmi have already sold out of their pre-orders (current Amazon.co.jp offerings are from 3rd party sellers, retail price is around $82 USD shipped) but it's possible they'll both post more on release day.

As far as I know, none of the Euro stock has gone up for pre-order yet, so keeping an eye on on the various regional Amazons and other import friendly retailers would be helpful. To warn you though, quite a few of the Amazons will put on shipping restriction warnings even if they let you place an order, so it can be very up in the air whether they'll honor international orders. It's better than having no chance outside of eBay though!

Edit: As soon as I post that none of the EU stock has gone up, Amazon.fr posted theirs. As expected it has the shipping restriction warning but is letting international orders through.

u/betacux · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Would definitely recommend a pro controller, so much more comfortable than joy-con. I got joy-con comfort silicone grip things that go on the joy-con, but even then my hands absolutely kill me from playing Switch. If you just want to play as soon as you can, I guess get silicone comfort grips for your joy-con, and a comfort grip controller. Also definitely get a glass screen protector, and this case.. For games, I'd recommend BotW, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey (I assume by the time you have enough saved up odyssey will be out, it comes out in a month)

I've bought quite a few switch accessories.

I bought the Pro Controller.
Works great. Exactly as advertised.

The Nintendo Joy-Con, Neon Blue & Neon Red - Left and Right Edition.
Also works great.

HORI Officially Licensed Premium Protective Filter for Nintendo Switch .

This is not great. I find the edges of it are always peeling back especially along the bottom. However installation was easy.

Because of the above I've now bought:

Spigen Nintendo Switch Screen Protector Tempered Glass / 2 Pack / 9H Hardness for Nintendo Switch 2017

I have not used it yet so I cannot comment on its effectiveness.

I have also ordered the following:

HORI NSW-003U Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charge Stand Officially Licensed

It was supposed to be released on April 12th according to Amazon and it still hasn't shipped and Amazon doesn't have any accurate information as to when they will receive stock.

I'm pretty sure that's it so far.

u/SkillCappa · 0 pointsr/Games

I think the joycons off the console look comfortable enough. I mean, you just hold them in your hands, all good. When they're mounted, it looks uncomfortable.

>And for peripherals I guess I don't really get what you mean

To play online, I'd want to use voice chat. I'd need a Switch specific headset, right? Something that plugs into my phone and my Switch. And I'll want a different controller, like the pro controller. And what about friends? I might actually need 3-4 pro-like controllers. And what if I want the Switch to be my primary gaming platform, as it is for so many? I'd need to buy an arcade stick similar to the one I have on PC.

u/rhet115 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've some random examples here, however I would recommend you do some shopping around for yourself.

Findway Crystal Case

Kungber Hard Back Case

Kungber Ergonomic Back Case

Nyko Bubble Case

Nyko Slim Case

Mumba Protective Case

Liangsm Leather Cover

Utoper Wallet Carrying Case

Yoswan Aluminum Case

Chinfai Silicone Skin

YoRHa Hand Grip

Keep your specific needs in mind. Do you want a case that will allow your Switch to fit inside the dock? Do you use tabletop mode often and want your Joy-Cons to be easily detachable? Do you want a case that will cover your screen when not in use? Do you want your case to give you extra grip while holding it in handheld mode? Do you prefer hard plastic or is silicone acceptable? How important is it that the buttons remain uncovered? Etc.

u/glorious_sunshine · 3 pointsr/Switch

Taking care of your switch is gonna do more good for it than having a case ;) but that's irrelevant to your question.

If by 'case' you mean a storage case, get a hard case. This is to prevent damage to your console when someone inevitably places something heavy on top of the case. A hard case can hold more before it applies pressure to your console. But I opted for design over function on this as I live with a pretty responsible fellow switch owner. The one I have is this.

If you meant a cover, which you only take off to dock your switch, then get one which is easy to take off/put on, without scratching or stressing your switch. In this case, I went for this cover, and its worked fine for me so far.

Best advice when buying cases - read the reviews, think about how you are gonna use it, how often etc.

Edit: because the Zelda case is not a hard case (at least I don't consider it to be) as the zip side is soft so it kinda slopes, I was worried about it pressing on the joysticks, but with the cover, it raises the thickness of the console as a whole, and therefore having the case inside a squished backpack doesn't worry me as much. Which case you get and whether you get a cover is kinda up to your budget as well. I recommend getting a hard case if you can only get one of the two.

I totally agree, I can recommend the bt adaptor from homespot:

I just gutted my dock and popped it in a portable shell from Amazon. It's great. The Skull & Co. Grip case fit in the official dock but you had to push it down a pinch to ensure it docked properly. It fits better in the modded one.

This is the shell I used. Took like 15 minutes with like no previous experience on my end with a video tutorial.

The LinkStyle dock replacement shell works beautifully with the Skull & Co. GripCase. Almost like it was made for it. I love the Pro Controller, but I have heard people complain about the D-Pad. I have never had an issue with mine, but I have not played a lot D-Pad intensive games with it.

I have heard good things about the Power A controllers (both the gamecube style and the pro controller style) but I haven't used them myself. The wired ones can be found for around $25 and the wireless for $40 so they might be a good choice as a second controller if you don't want to spend too much.

I own this Gamecube adapter that lets you connect both GCN and has a Wii Classic Controller socket, which means you can connect the controllers from the mini consoles to the Switch - which I plan to do to play SMM2 levels.

I'm also considering this 8 bit do adapter that lets you connect PS4, Xbox and Wii U Pro controllers to switch, since I really like the WIi U Pro and it's just gathering dust at home.

u/kauma16 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

As others have mentioned in this thread a screen protector is a MUST for the switch! Also if you want to be much safer when you're docking your switch put a piece of cloth on the side of the plastic dock where the screen will be possibly rubbing against, if you really don't want any smudges or scratches. A travelling case is a good thing to get if you're planning on bringing it around with you. I have a leather case similar to this that I put on whenever I bring my switch on the go so I don't have to use the stand, since the case turns into a sturdy stand! Also silicon grip covers are a nice addition to put on your joy cons.

So I am looking to order a case soon for my Switch, and have mostly settled on ordering one from FYOUNG via Amazon. I came across two that seem to be the same, but are priced differently and have separate listings. To anyone that has used one of these cases before, is there one to choose over the other? I noticed a slight difference to the cutouts near the rear ventilation, but that's all. Thanks!

Just picked up a Switch via the Target deal. Need the usual accompaniment.

I'm picking up an amFilm screen protector and would like a case.

I've seen cases from TomToc, Fyoung, and the Orzly pack which seems like a good deal; and just came across this Zadii grip (Satisfye clone?), case, and screen protector that also looks like a good deal.

Any recommendations?

I use this case and toss it in my backpack along with the charger. I think it’s perfect. Absolutely love this case. Has a hard outer shell and the inside is very soft. It even has an interior flap that holds 8 cartridges. I highly recommend it.

Im not sure about messenger bags. I haven’t seen anything like that for the switch.

Great case that can hold many games as well as the joycon straps and some ear buds that I keep in the zippered compartment. The charger that came with the console may fit in there as well but seemed to put a lot of pressure on the system. It is not bulky at all.

I also bought a screen protector:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N9RG3XS/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_1

  1. Buy a tempered glass screen protector. Docks have been known to scratch them up.
  2. Buy a micro SD card that's at LEAST 128GB in size.
  3. If you're going to play handheld at all and experience discomfort, definitely buy either a Skull & Co grip or a Satisfye grip.
  4. If you want to share your games AT ALL with anybody else in your family who also owns their own separate Switch, definitely buy your games physical. (There is a LOT you can read up on cloud saves / game sharing / etc. about this, but this is the rule of thumb, imo.)
  5. If you're NOT going to share your games with anybody else, then buying your games digitally tends to cut down on load times a little bit, as far as I can tell. Just keep an eye on how much space you have left on your micro SD.
  6. Definitely buy a Nintendo Switch Online (or whatever the hell it's called) Subscription. You need this to play games online, and you get a bunch of free NES / SNES games, too. Also, if you want to buy the Online subscription for multiple Switches, there's a family plan thing you can get as well.
  7. If you're going to play docked, invest in a Pro Controller. If you're going to play Smash, either invest in a Gamecube controller adapter and get a GC controller... or buy this wireless controller.

I've used this for several trips now, and it's worked out very well. I like the ability to use the front cover as a stand as it's much more stable than the built in kickstand. It's easy enough to put on and take off. It's relatively inexpensive.

u/ExternalRoof · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Is there a ultra thin case to protect just the body of the switch (the tablet part only) or a 3 Piece with Joycons still detachable that can fit the Butterfox case comfortably something like this? Or is the Switch better off naked (without a case)? Also are these PDP Gel Guards worth it even with all the bad reviews?

I'm currently using the Carry-All case. I've had it since Day 1, and it works well. However, the creator of this Switch TakeCase posted a giveaway here about a week ago and I think it looks great, I will be buying that one soon. Another good one is the Deluxe Travel case, I know someone who has it. It just isn't optimal for me since I carry a Pixel charger and I don't think it would fit in that zipper pouch.

Tldr: Just bought the 8 bitdo adapter linked below, I love it, can I use my synced Xbox controller to turn on the switch?

----------

So, I was here a few days ago asking about a cheap wireless controller. Instead of the controller, because I have a spare Xbox One X controller I don't use much, I ended up buying this

8Bitdo Wireless Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch,Windows,Mac & Raspberry Pi with a OTG Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7LMM52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mQhJBbTD6A2G7

I just got it today, it works really well. My only question, is there a way for me to turn the Switch on using my Xbox controller? It's already synced up, but if the Switch is off, and I hold the power button on the Xbox controller, it looks like it turns on, but the Switch never turns on, and eventually the controller starts rumbling like it's trying to connect.

u/BringoutCHaDead · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I highly recommend a case. I don't think a screen protector is enough for taking the switch on the go. I wouldn't want to throw it in a back pack without one. I have bought two cases for mine and the one I linked below is my favorite and most form fitting.

Brief story time:
I bought the BASSTOP white+white joy con housing shell set from Amazon link

I had no idea what I was doing, and just kinda went for it following a number of youtube tutorials and various blog posts.
While I was nervous throughout the whole process, overall, it wasn’t too bad.. The trickiest part, as you’ll see the Amazon reviews remark, is the screwdrivers that the kit came with. The black screws on the back of each joy con are essentially stripped at this point.. I would definitely recommend getting a better set of screwdrivers, especially if you plan on taking them apart more than once.
It came out so nice looking though, and I am very glad I did it!
Overall, the shells feel identical to the original ones.
The only issue I have with it is the right joy-con seems to be a little larger than the original one and sticks up from the console just a bit when its attached. It also feels a little snug while sliding it onto the screen. It isn’t super noticeable, but still there and may bother some people. (this could just be my set, not a universal thing).

Seems like we're all in luck! Look what I just saw popped up today on Amazon...

https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B072BZ66JL

(that one was on Amazon France, and was the cheapest I've seen so far). However, if they don't deliver to where you live, it seems that the main USA amazon has these as japanese imports with international shipping (much more expensive, but is a way to get them if all else fails)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BZ66JL

not seen them on any of the other amazons yet, but I reckon if given long enough they eventually will. (but for now, those above two methods are already possible!)

Hope this helps!

u/snoopy2035 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

First one seems to have a more protective case covering, but I like the 2nd one more because of the look, but it has a waiting in stock because of high demand. However I'd recommend if you can spare an extra $10 I'd recommend this

u/smellslikekimchi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just got a Homespot bluetooth transmitter for my Switch and I love it. It lets you connect bluetooth headsets to the Switch, which isn't a feature built in for some odd reason. It's got a small form factor and 2 players can use their own headsets on it at one time. It's got a super low latency codec too if the headset supports it. $40 on Amazon.

u/CubitsTNE · 1 pointr/PokkenGame

I'm not certain which retail sticks work on the switch, I've only used custom built stuff for the last few years. The switch has very open usb controller compatibility, so anything that can pose as a generic gamepad should work.

The last i saw, hori made a switch-specific version of the RAP V, which is a very well built stick: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Arcade-Hayabusa-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N4P40LG

My brother uses the ps4 version of that and it's as much stick as you'll ever need. I find the buttons a bit sensitive, but I'm a big seimitsu fan (many people prefer quick buttons). At any rate they're very easy and cheap to swap out.

u/volcomador64 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector is a good idea, Switch has a plastic screen which scratches very easily. amFilm seems to be the go to recommedation on this sub. I went with Spigen screen protector, and I would recommend that one from my personal experience (very good!) and it's a little cheaper.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VMJNVX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ezBVDbSWFMYHF Thanks haha, $22 might be asking a lot for a shell thou lol

u/TyMiles2012 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Honestly, I would just double down on a dedicated fight stick if you're going to play a fighting game. I don't have one capable with the Switch but my friends and I all got Skullgirls back in the day and I also got a fight stick just for it. Can't go back to a controller for fighting games as I've even used it for SC6 recently. 8bitdo's NES themed one is a literal hardware clone at least on the outside of the one I use but has Switch support and I think it's cheaper. You can even replace the joystick gate and buttons with real arcade hardware if you really want assuming the insides are the same.

If you want a standard controller, not sure. Best bet I can give you is to get one of those shell swaps that change the dedicated buttons to a DPad if you're willing. I thought it was absolutely worth it, but it involves disassembly.

I have this and it comes in pretty handy for flights, because I usually keep the joycons separate and I like that this also provides a better stand than the Switch's kickstand. It's pretty inexpensive, but I've had it for close to a year and it's held up well. There are others with a similar design if you look.

I don't have it myself, but if you wanted a solution you could buy, something like this might be worth looking at.

u/NeverEndingXsin · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

AmFilm Screen Protector Is really the only must have I say that because everything else is based on your needs. If you plan on taking it everywhere then i'd recommend this carrying case if you plan on playing on the go then a portable charger would be a good choice, I'd recommend something with QC (Quick Charge) via USB-C with at least 20,000MAH.

As for splatoon or arms, they are two completely different styles of games. I'd opt for Splatoon just because I don't see myself enjoying arms.

u/urboipure · 3 pointsr/splatoon

Haha, I was going to get red and blue but before my birthday Walmart released a Splatoon bundle and my mom asked if I wanted that one and of course I said yes!

Normally I wouldn't bother... but the Switch dock has me more worried about scratches and scuffs when I slide the console in/out than I am about getting scratches and scuffs from anywhere else.

Ended up getting this tempered glass one off Amazon, and its been some nice peace of mind atleast.

I got it on amazon last year when the switch came out, I’ve looked through my orders from that year twice but I can’t find it. If I do then I’ll message you and anyone else you asks with the link to the page. I’m having trouble looking on my phone tho. my laptop is easier but I won’t have my laptop until the 18th, just so you know :) I’m sorry if I can’t find it tho!
Edit: This isn’t the same one but it’s designed the same, heres the link. ;)

Anyone have any issues removing the amFilm tempered glass screen protector? [The one I have] (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1501772713&sr=1-3&keywords=switch+screen+protector) is way too glossy and I want to swap it for [the matte one] (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Anti-Glare-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B06X3WTK4X). I feel like these will come off pretty easily but just wanted to hear from others.

Also, after having your Switch for a while now, are you finding you didn't really even need a screen protector in the first place? Kinda feel like this might be the case.

u/4LaSor · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I suggest buying a case for the switch and dock bundle. you can buy the branded switch case but amazon has cheaper ones that work just as well. (i own one). This case can hold the switch, dock, hdmi, ac adapter, pro controller or extra joycons in grip.

Not sure if you can have these by the time you head home, but you definitely buy one and use in the future.

pretty sure BASSTOP or whoever else sells shells has buttons like this for joycons.

https://www.amazon.com/BASSTOP-Replacement-Controller-Electronics-Joycon-Atomic/dp/B073VMJNVX?th=1

u/e39 · 5 pointsr/RetroPie

Don't go dual. It creates a very unnecessarily close gaming experience.

Now, if you really want to do this right grab one of these cases from ParadiseArcadeShop.com. By the looks of it, there's more than enough room to toss an encased Raspberry Pi into the housing too.

From there, you can get any number of Sanwa parts to pop in place.

  • Buttons
  • Stick
  • USB PCB (that RetroPie will instantly recognize)

If you want to go a completely alternate route ... the 8Bitdo N30 stick is wireless (bluetooth), pairs with RetroPie easily, and allows for Sanwa part upgrades.

Again, unless you're confined to an arcade cabinet, using a dual stick really sucks. You're bumping shoulders with your friend all day in a room that has so much space for activities.

Also, don't be intimidated by the wiring. It's all plug and play. No electrical or soldering experience needed at all.

u/KJBenson · 1 pointr/Switch

I just bought these ones and I found the quality to be excellent. I recommend buying the tools that are recommended with them and to only do this if you have fairly nimble hands and can deal with screws that are 0.5-2mm long and a couple of connectors around 2-4mm wide.

If you do buy them the box comes with a qr code on it you can scan for a YouTube video of the tear down and reassembly.

But the recommended tool set doesn’t come with a pair of tiny needle nose pliers which are almost essential.

Edit: fixed the link

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4P40LG/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_S7-wCbVJ520GK
The buttons are a lot easier to actuate than on a gamepad, especially using multiple fingers. If you are able to exert just a little bit of force that might be an option. The buttons are also large enough that one can easily paste cloth or something onto them if the surface itself is your issue. With Microsoft's adaptive controller there's also the option mix and match other types of actuators such as foot pedals.

There's already plenty of BT transmitters with AptX-LL support, from USB ones for PC/Mac use, to models more suited for home theater use with optical input and the ability to stream to two headphones simultaneously, and even USB-C stuff meant for the Nintendo Switch...

I dunno how adaptive AptX stacks up latency-wise, seems like a riff on the variable bitrate ability of LDAC but I've not seen a lot of transmitters with LDAC either and that's been out longer... So it might be a while for adaptive AptX. AptX-LL works more than fine for TV watching or gaming tho...

u/InYetAnotherCastle · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I got this Butterfox case and I'm in love with it. Don't have to detach the joycons, no annoying elastic to deal with, plenty of room for a whole lot of games, and the top area is great for cords or a power bank if you want to carry one.

u/im_lost_at_sea · 0 pointsr/smashbros

Official would probably be the best

I chose these powerA wireless controllers since I don't want to deal with cables. They have worked very well for months however if used extensively the control stick can start to drift. Also they don't contain rechargable batteries so you will have to change the batteries every two months or so.

I've been looking into getting a glass screen protector and I've managed to narrow it down to these 2;

  • AmFilm Matte protector
  • Anker GlassGuard protector

Both are supposed to have anti-glare abilities and are relatively easy to apply. However, both are equally good when I look at their reviews, making it hard for me to choose one over the other...

Another to consider (edit, it's basically an upmarked M300 with bluetooth):

Works on PC, switch, and Android and the wireless works pretty well.

Some of the videos I've seen on installing them say they had to file certain parts for buttons to fit correctly. Did you run into any of these issues? If not do you have a link to the pair you bought? I've been eyeing a white shell for my joycons on Amazon. This one:

  1. Single player games will work regardless, for multiplayer there are updates you'll want to install

  2. Haven't use a screen protector on my Switch, have it since launch, take it outside and in/out of the dock a lot. Not a scratch. Might be worth it just in case though.

  3. I don't have any accessories besides this carrying case. They come in many different styles, I have this particular one. Has room for up to 8 cartridges or 6 and 2 sd cards, it's very neat!

The PowerA Gamecube Controller is basically a Switch Pro Controller (minus rumble and Amiibo scanning) housed in the casing of a Gamecube controller. It's a very faithful recreation of the original, the only difference I've noticed is the addition of the extra buttons.

u/BillDino · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I personally bought this dock.. It fits the gripcase perfectly but I don't particularly like it, feels like I might break the switch everytime I dock it? It has the same innards as the switch though, you have to take apart a dock

u/crazysim · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If there's no software solution, maybe cutting, taping or sanding the edges so its safer, and taping a small thin piece of plexiglass, lexan, or something transparent on the switch screen would work.

https://www.amazon.com/Lexan-Sheet-Polycarbonate-Thick-Nominal/dp/B00520AR9C

It just needs to be thick enough so the capacitance is not picked up.

If you don't want to tape it to the switch itself, maybe attaching it to a case like this might be more palatable.

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Multi-Functional-3-Angle-Protective-Protect/dp/B06XBRF7N4

Though there are tape that won't leave residue.

Unlike an iPad or iPhone or something, you won't lose any functionality doing this as the touch screen is optional and the switch is fully accessible from the controller since it needs to be usable if only in a TV.
