Tell me what you do to make the world a better place. Saying that you don't is not acceptable. We all change the world with every single interaction, and if you are here, I know you've changed someone's world for the better at least a little.
Tell me someone or something that changes your world for the better.
Tell me a dream/fantasy/goal you have that you work toward.
While this contest is going on, I will clean, organize, and then the people who are annoying me will come back to my house. Tell me that I have the strength and grace to be excellent to them.
Please link me to something you'd like. My total contest budget is $16. I don't say that I will not go over. I don't say that it's $16 to one person. I don't say that it's not. If there are 10 entries I absolutely love, and I can buy something that two people really, really want, that's great. If not, well, $16 doesn't go all that far, ya know! edited to add: I have priiiiiiimmmmeeeee
(I've provided several different options, as I can't narrow it down to one lol. All are under $16 and have prime eligibility)
I took 21 credit hours one semester in college (while I was in ROTC and had a part-time job). I continue to live a busy life (work a full-time job that requires travel, own a small business, and serve in the National Guard). Here's my advice:
Google Calender: Get one and use it. Input assignment & project deadlines, workout schedules, social activities, and anything else you need to track into it. Set reminders so that you have no excuse to forget about a deadline.
To-do lists: Take the time to write down a daily to-do list every morning (I carry a Moleskine ruled reporter notebook), but you can use any piece of paper or phone app. Prioritize your most important tasks and do those first (I highlight mine). Use small, manageable tasks to achieve a larger goal. You will feel amazing every time you cross off a task.
Find a workplace: In college it was the library. Now I use coffee shops. Make it a place that you go into specifically to get work done (reading, research, typing a paper, etc.). I like to set up my work station, order a large cup of coffee, put in my headphones, listen to classical music on Spotify, and get shit done. You'll be crossing tasks off your to-do list like crazy and feeling good about it!
Read correctly: I was a history major in college, so I had to read tons of shit. You need to read assignments pragmatically, not for enjoyment. Before you read something, do a quick google search for the book or article. Find out what it's about and what the summary is. Read the table of contents, and then start reading quickly through the chapters. 3/4ths done with the page and understand the concept? flip the page. Get 3/4ths done with the chapter and understand? Move to the next one. (Not all books can be read like this, but keep in mind you're not reading to enjoy the book, you're reading to understand the content & conclusion the author is trying to prove. Also, many authors write with "filler content." You'll quickly learn what information is important, and what is put in to make the book longer.) Type or write down study notes as you go. It's proven you remember shit better when you write it down, plus you'll have a consolidated guide for future study, discussion, & research purposes.
Exercise: You're going to have days that you don't sleep as much as you want. You'll feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and on the edge of an anxiety attack. You'll be surprised what a 30-minute bike ride, jog, or P90X workout will do for you. Energy levels will increase, you'll look better naked, feel better, and you'll have crossed off a task on your to-do list!
Attitude: Keep it positive. Plan time to periodically do things that recharge you (I like to bicycle, have drinks with my friends, or cook). Your emotional (and spiritual) health is important at times like this. Do yoga, meditation, kickboxing, religious stuff, or whatever to keep you sane. I'm not particularly into that existential shit, but you need to identify what works for you to maintain mental health. Listen to music that makes you feel good, take time to appreciate things, and don't let yourself feel sorry for yourself. Remember, your not the only busy person on planet earth - you can manage this.
Caffeine: lots of it
The habits you establish now will help you profoundly in your professional career. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck and keep at it! NOW GET THE FUCK OFF REDDIT! YOU CAN DO THIS!
I don't know if you'll think this is weird, but I think you might enjoy something like this -- it's nature-y and science-y, and a neat way to bring those things indoors. I have a thing for insects, so it's on my list too. (I really really want it!)
For writing, you can't beat Moleskine notebooks. I'm a freelancer, and I find them indispensable. The quality is excellent. I use the large reporter size for interviews, but I take this size everywhere. It fits in my purse or pocket, and I can jot down ideas whenever I'm inspired. I also love that it has a pocket in the back.
I didn't link any of my own things, because I have lots on my lists. If I win, I'd like you to pick something.
I guess Imgur isn't so friendly on links so I'll put them here as well:

8+. Otterbox SYMMETRY, Black :: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K6PBSK4
From a chem standpoint, we are constantly changing up different elements of the rubber to test for long-term durability. Every bumper plate we ship out has a little tag on it with the "born on" date and we collect data on if/when they fail.
Now, they NEVER fail often, but we do see small changes that increase or decrease durability, and we can constantly montoring and improving.
For example, we made a small change a few years ago that decreased the odor of the plates, but it increased the durometer slightly, which led to stiffer plates, but also some cracking around the insert at the 18-36 month marks when used heavily. So we've fixed that.
Re: work-life balance- it's so intertwined that there is no balance. But I love it that way!
That said, here is a quick peek under the hood at my "productivity stack":
Some of the things I've gotten that have made my life a little easier.
I'm sure there are more and I'll come back and add them as I can think of them, these are some of the non-medical quality of life items I add to my every day to make things more bearable.
I'm going to start off with a very quick "don't buy" recommendation - Moleskine. The paper is terrible for fountain pen use.
Now, on to the good stuff.
I don't think you can go far wrong with Rhodia Webnotebooks. Some complain of feathering, though I suspect they may be using broader nibs with wetter inks. I've seen others complain about ghosting, possibly due to the same reason. Ghosting hasn't a problem for me though that may be because I prefer EF or F nibs.
Or the Leuchtturm1917 range. Another classic FP friendly notebook.
Both are readily available from stationery stores and online. They're great notebooks. And with the elastic that they each have, you have a readily available pen holder too. (Though maybe not as a permanent solution for your fanciest, most expensive pens.)
Spread your wings a little wider and you might want to think about something a little less mainstream. I really enjoy how it feels to write in a Maruman Menomosyne "Inspiration" pad. It is one of my favourite papers to write on, though a touch too spendy for me to feel comfortable using it for my daily scrawling.
Then there's Midori. The paper in their infamous Travelers Notebook refills is well regarded. However you need to watch out for getting oils from your hand on the paper and, occasionally, there are pages where the paper finish hasn't fully taken. In both cases you can see excessive feathering and ink 'burps'.
Around the midpoint of last year I tried the Midori MD Cotton Notebook in A5. That replaced the Leuchtteurm that had been with me fro four or five months and stuck with me for the rest of the year. I'd be well into my second if it hadn't been for the next, and final, recommendation.
Last, but not least, my current daily writer is the Tomoe River based Hobonichi Cousin. I believe that this is the thinnest FP friendly paper you can find. It ghosts, but with paper this thin I'm not sure what else you would expect. And it can take a little longer to dry than the other options here. It is definitely a paper that you want to consider carefully if you don't want to hang around a little waiting for ink to dry. Blotter paper, or a pencil board/writing mat, may help. (I use a pencil board and, when I'm in a rush, drop it in between the pages I was just writing on. I haven't suffered any disastrous smudges yet.)
It is a dream to write on and, being so thin, you get a serious amount of pages in a small amount of space.
The Hobonichi isn't to everyone's taste. And we're almost halfway through the year so it's a bad time to invest in one. Instead, look at the Nanami Seven Seas Tomoe River Noteook. Same paper, same writing experience. I may end up with one of these next year instead of a Hobonichi.
Hope that has helped. Whatever you end up with I hope you enjoy it.
You've gotten excellent advice on inks, and some on notebooks. You mentioned being overwhelmed by the choices, but wanting a sturdy notebook that can handle fountain pen ink. There are a few choices mentioned in here, but perhaps I can help summarize this. Key thing you will want is a high gsm (Grams per Square Meter), since a high gsm means thicker paper.
Wishing you and your daughter the best during these hard times.
First off, many of these things are intentionally cheap, because I do tend to break and/or lose things, so... Here goes.
All have Amazon links, because that was what was easiest.

Not shown:
If you only use one side of the page Mnemosyne has a great a5 graph (the backs are blank though). Their notebooks have survived really well with me: Maruman Mnemosyne Inspiration 5 mm Grid 6.3 x 8.3" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001A1VB74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mHp9Bb7XTNWN8
Maruman also has a student-ish line of board backed graph notebooks:
Maruman A5 spiral notebook grid ruled 80 sheets N247ES 5 volume set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MMW8M7M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3Hp9Bb1GSDT60
Rollbahn seems to be really high quality and the rings are no joke. They’re not hugely thick though so you may need a few for the year (unless you just do weeklies):
Roruban Pocket Memo A5 Dark Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B8N2YA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GIp9BbZ2AXW0S
I really love the nockco a5 spiral top bounds, smaller dot dash and easily landscapable. A little less sturdy: https://nockco.com/paper/dotdash-spiral-pad-2-pack
The Studioneat Panobook is supposed to be amazing. I cannot offer a personal opinion as mines still in the mail: https://www.studioneat.com/products/panobook
You could also look into a notebook case to reinforce a flimsier option you like (such as the Rhodia): KOKUYO SYSTEMIC A5 ノ−V685B−M GRAY https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S0GQS3O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_NMp9BbFNEMBQF
If you don’t need spiral bound I’d suggest:
Clairfontaine essentials book
Rhodia goalbook
Anything Life
Anything Apica CD
I personally really prefer spirals so they truly lay flat, so my day to day I tend to use my mnemosynes the most, I just dig the paper a lot.
Oh that is an easy one to get on. My work use to do that and I developed one the best habits I say I have.
Any work that I have to hire a contractor on I watch everything they do. Like make them log into my VM's or sit over the shoulder. Run a screen capture the whole time and take really good notes. It will save you when they screw up or teach you how to do what they did. Which puts you on the road to get their wage or at least learn how to not have to call them. If you don't have a notebook get one. I use a military one (not super cheap but it holds up super well) http://www.amazon.com/Military-Book-Record-Memorandum-7530-00-222-3521/dp/B0064M7X30
Approach your management and layout that you want to learn what the contracting company is doing and that with a few short sessions you can probably resolve the bulk majority of what they are doing. Your wage to your company is what 15-25 an hour, that contracting company is probably making 100+/hr of work with a minimum of an hour charged no matter how basic the task is.
Help Desk as in Tier 1 B.S. is a hard place to get out off and it is hard to market yourself to other companies to take a risk on you and let you be that T2/T3 guy.
Last thing. NETWORK like mad... And I don't mean network as in cisco. Get to know the players around your area. Each area is actually pretty small and the community is well connected. Get your name out there that you want to take the next step and you will get a call instead of applying. I have gotten more big pay jobs off meeting for a lunch than I have applying for a posted position. Which comes this question. What City are you in?
It looks like you are painting in watercolor? If so then I can give you some advice.
1: remember to have your drawing complete before you start painting, I made alot of mistakes thinking that could fix something later and when I started painting I had completely forgotten about the problem and would end up painting wonky anatomy and perspective, it seems like a basic thing to know but it's actually really hard to remember.
2: make sure you have the proper paper for painting, this is really important especially with watercolor I know people say materials don't make the artist but if you don't have the proper materials the paint won't work right moleskin watercolor is my go to sketch book you can even use things like oil and acrylic
Moleskine Art Plus Watercolor Album, A4, Black, Hard Cover (12 x 8.5) (Professional ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/8862931948/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_EbxLxb6SCGGCC
Here's another one that I use strictly for watercolor And inks
Bee Paper Super Deluxe Sketch Pad, 11-Inch by 14-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0027A7AKE/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_TqxLxbXHJPFSQ
3: Draw lightly and with a moldeble eraser
Prismacolor Premier Kneaded Rubber Eraser, Large, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IFAJ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_etxLxbGMBG12H
4: Remember to ALWAYS paint from light to dark, this is something I forget when I've been working in other mediums.
5: learn at least a little bit about the color wheel you'd be surprised at how far a little knowledge could take you, James Gurney has a blog with some great information for traditional media he works in watercolor, oil, and gouache.

7: you shouldn't be worried about what brushes you have yet however a brush I would highly recommend picking up a round number 8-10
http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-studio-sable-brushes/
You look wonderful today, did you do something new to your hair?
You should get this can opener is made of good thick steel, it's heavy in the hand and I have never had a problem opening a can with one. Bonus, it has a bottle opener on it.
And this is an excellent liquid measuring cup.
You may also want some of the following:
Hand soap for the kitchen and bathroom sinks, hand towels.
You need basic first aid stuff, like adhesive bandages (band-aids) and rubbing alcohol, good tweezers. Include basic pain meds, stuff for an upset stomach, allergy meds, or any prescription medications you need.
Sponges and scrub brushes. If you want to use a swifter type thing, I'd like to recommend this I have used it to clean offices and it works. The handle is pretty heavy duty and you can make or buy extra cleaning cloths, then you just put them in the washer.
Oh a colander, I will admit I picked that one because it's cute.
I love my rice cooker I use it to steam vegetables or cook rice at least once a week. I have the larger version but that one would probably work, or the larger one.
I could use one of the following: Notebook or Scissors or a Book.
I'm not sure how big your pages are, but a good sturdy notebook with nice paper that I really love would be the Leuchtturm Master: https://www.amazon.com/Kikkerland-Leuchtturm-Master-Ruled-Notebook/dp/B002BWDKQQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469827744&sr=8-1&keywords=leuchtturm+master
Unfortunately it may not be enough paper depending on what you're looking for, but it will certainly hold up if you decide to get two or three and copy your text in volumes. Hope this helps!
In-shower notepad. Saved my life. All my best ideas happen in the long hot showers I take. https://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Notes-Water-Proof-Note/dp/B01AS5I0ZS

Also, Try to develop a 1 page "vision board" with all your current thoughts/ affirmations that have benefited you. Everyday, if you have a brilliant thought, you can tell yourself does it fit on my 1-page "vision board", if no, then it's easier to forget about it. It's all about minimizing, filtering. Not about making more lists. Make those lists potent. Keep your mind on a one page Vision board, and it will help center your thoughts.
Depending on his style, Star wars themed cufflinks... I have a few and are great conversation starters. Bought in etsy.
Also, mechanical pencils. Spend some money on a good quality one from Rötring (like this) or a Kuru Toga (look those up, they're awesome and SUPER geeky) or both.
Top it off with a fancy notepad (squared or ruled paper, we're not artsy types) like this and he'll remember you fondly every day.
Do not buy electronics or gadgets. He'll likely have what he wants and likes.
There seems to be good reviews of this TN clone here on Reddit. ZLYC Leather Travelers Notebook - no affiliation. You could then print out your own inserts if you want to go the TN route.
5x8" = A5 size, roughly. Jet Pens has the most comprehensive notebook buying guide. It and Goulet have a notebook search with the "size=A5" filter that would be a great way to see what's out there.
I got my brother a Leuchtturm 1917 and he thinks it's pretty nice. Dot grid with page numbers too. You'll hear a lot of people say it's inferior paper for fountain pens compared to the Rhodia Webnotebook, but it does absorb and dry ink quicker so when you have to close the book and go, the ink doesn't smear onto the opposite page. I personally love my webnotebook but it does take a little while before I'm comfortable flipping onto the next page. The ultimate A5 notebook is the Nanami Seven Seas Writer with 480 pages of Tomoe River paper (the fountain pen holy grail paper), but it always sells out when it comes on sale. I just checked their website and they're restocking "Late May" which could be any time in the next couple of weeks, so keep your eye out!
Edit: didn't see your college budget: Black n Red notebooks are budget- and fountain pen-friendly. They're $6-7 a pop, available in twin-wire or hardcover, so go hog wild.
wonderpens.ca? that and I'd try amazon.ca -- you can scrounge up weird free shipping from third party sellers if you dig a bit (for example, this one's only a buck more than us amazon, after conversion.)
And to answer your broader question, i usually buy online. Just because it's easier to get exactly what I want, or to find the best price if it's something I' trying for the first time. I only really buy in store if it's something I also ready know i like (that is, for convenience purposes).
So my favorite so far are these ones off amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0778KGTTB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_o2A1DbRTMTNT9
Comes in a 2 pack, and are cheap compared to some of the more popular ones. The pages are cream colored, and are just the perfect paper weight for me! I do a lot of random sketches and things in my journal. and these take pen and pencil really well, without being watercolor paper thick.
I have used the Leuchttrum ones, but the paper is way too thin imo.
There's the Oliver & Archer ones, which have thick paper and are great if you're doing watercolors and whatnot. But I personally think they're too big,.
There's also Minimalist Art on amazon, they're alot like the ones I linked. But a bit thicker paper
I tend to go to Barnes and Noble for bullet journals. They have some pretty ones. My preferred journal is an A5 dotted type. Amazon also has a couple good brands too I’ve tried. Here’s the specific one I’m using right now.
I get my pens from Amazon. They’re like off-brand Staedlers: 60-pack with stencils or a smaller pack for trying.
Happy bullet journaling!
Happy Cake day!

The book Physics for Entertainment by Yakov Perelman
To go with a Moleskine you really should have a good EDC pen, like the Fisher Space Pen, though Lamy Safari fountain pens are fun and affordable if that's more your style.
You should also look into Field Notes notebooks.
And the thing I have to include just because I have to... ninjabread men cookie cutters because I really really want it! (well them)

I agree the online tools are time consuming, although I find it useful to make my favorite sessions with Academy Soccer Coach online software. That is very rare though as I put all my sessions and games in a moleskine type notebook. I write each session/game in pencil and write down reflection notes in pen, which really helps me when looking back at sessions. I've gone through 2 notebooks in the last year and I actually ended up using my first book tonight to help plan my session for tomorrow. I was trying to remember a certain activity I did several months ago and remembered the month I did it in and found it easily in my older notebook.
This is a cheap version of what I use
Thank you for your response and advice! I found it on amazon here : https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002BWDKQQ/ref=pd_aw_sbs_229_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7NSW7S4S5CJQ03XF68YE&dpPl=1&dpID=81%2B02VwtBKL
I am LOVING that it has a table of contents and is numbered. I usually have to create my own table of contents and number the pages manually, this is awesome.
Question: if I bent the notebook in half so I am only looking at the page I am working on, like is usual for spiralbound, will it break or otherwise be affected?
That is my only concern, and I’d be ready to buy it!
I think a moleskin sketchbook would make for a great gift. They are great quality and really popular among artists.
Challenge her to fill it up with sketches by the end of next year.

As an illustrator. The best gift I have ever recieved was a small pocket sized moleskin watercolor sketch book with a pentel brush pen and the windsor newton travel water color pack.
All three are teensy and I always have them in my bag for when I'm bored or have down time.
The water colors
the sketch book
the brush pen
Paints last for ever, the pentel takes(and comes with) ink refills and is pretty much indestructible and the moleskin will end up being one of dozens. Personally I like keeping a tiny one just so I always have one stashed. But I get moleskin sketchbooks compulsively. They are nice to have to many of
During my PhD, I got a set of these Vela Lab notebooks for my coursework and my comprehensive exams. They are fountain friendly and extremely easy to organize given the generous index. I still have several of them, and I plan on keeping them for the rest of my life.
Depending on your long-range goals, it can be very helpful to keep these around for a quick reference type of text. If I could go back in time, I would give myself a full set of these when I started grad school. If I had kept up with them early, studying for comprehensives would have been a breeze.
I remember looking for one a while back, and the only thing I could find was the crappy blue Moleskin that's 3.5" x 5.5".
I ended up ordering a Rhodia Webnotebook from Amazon. They're pretty nice. The pages are a little smooth for my taste but they handle pen and ink pretty well. They've also got a webbed sleeve in the back for holding misc.
The Leuchtturm 1917 is also very popular for dotted notebooks.
That's a very nice thing for you to do for your birthday!
I would love this sketchbook or this book for my husband. Or for that matter any of the many nail polishes on either my Canadian wishlist or my American wishlist. I love nail polish. :D
Not quite what you are looking for, but getting close with Engineering & Science Notebook. If you continue the search and using engineering or architecture notebooks as the search terms, you might be able to find what you really want. Places like art supply stores and campus books stores would probably be your best bets for a B&M store
Thanks so much for the suggestion!!

the right one? (I'm on mobile and I don't remember how to hyperlink) my apologies.
Is the price okay too or do you have a site that you shop from that you would like to recommend?
Can't go wrong with paper, a nice sketchbook would be a perfect gift.
Something like this
Moleskine Art Plus Watercolor Album, A4, Black, Hard Cover (12 x 8.5) (Professional Folio Series) https://www.amazon.com/dp/8862931948/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PeS-ybJSZHFNX
https://www.amazon.com/Vela-Sciences-Advanced-Hardcover-Notebook/dp/B01M1NWVUS
I havent bought this particular notebook ( i usually get softcover because theyre cheaper) but 144 pages, hardcover, good reviews at $16 seems alright to me. While its obviously not fair to compare a small company like OPs to what is probably some wholesaler on amazon, the difference adds up.
I mostly use Muji notebooks since they're a great value for the price point. I use a graph pattern for math and comp sci (uniform indents!), then lined for most every other subject. And since they're pretty affordable, I'm not breaking the bank when stocking up for a new semester.
[Engineering Paper. Lots of it.] (http://www.amazon.com/National-Computation-Inches-Sheets-42382/dp/B0007LTJO0/ref=pd_sim_op_3)
A dry erase board (at least 3' x 2') with thin tipped different color dry erase markers for homework. One or two people in my engineering dorm had one, pretty soon everyone had one and we'd pooled some money together to put a full classroom sized on in our common room. It's super helpful.
Are lines a necessity?
This Watercolor Moleskine is pretty affordable and it's A4. It's only 60 pgs, though, according to the Moleskine store.
Good luck in your search!
my absolute favorite so far has got to be the minimalism art A5 bullet notebook. it's a bit smaller than alot of the journals i see on here, but it has neber done me wrong (i.e, i have never had a marker or pen bleed through lol). also, if you haven't got the most amount of money to spend on the journal, it's cheap (compared to the more popular bullet journals)
if you're interested, here's the link to where i got mine on amazon, but i'm sure you could find it in store too, i think i've seen it at target and michael's but don't hold me on that:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1CP9KE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zpAqDbT5ZRP6Z
I purchased a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook. There is still ghosting, but it's minimal compared to the other papers I tried. Ultimately, I will have the pen tuned so it's not a gusher, but the paper is lovely and recommend it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TES8EHA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I found it on amazon. While the size can be kind of inconvenient when I don't have a lot of room to spread it out on, I do love having the extra space, and the paper quality. It is wider ruled than the smaller ones although I don't think it is quite wide ruled by standard notebook measurements. Maybe somewhere between college and wide when comparing to common notebooks. I keep a smaller Leuchtturm1917 with me when I go somewhere and just want something to write random stuff in. I am a bit of a notebook nerd but I plan to stick with the master classic when it comes to my everyday journalling at home.
Here is a link to the one I purchased. I'm pretty sure you can find all varieties in that size.
Carry multiple notebooks?
2 or 3 thin A5 or A6 sized notebooks can be carried pretty easily. Something like the Muji or Northbook

Also, I'm really liking this Mnemosyne notebook for carrying to meetings where there's not much desk space. Really great paper.

Hi guys,
I want to start Journaling so I'm new in this sub, hopefully I can also ask for suggestions here(instead of creating a new post).
So I'm not very good at drawing hence I don't think I won't be drawing or using colours too much in it. I'll use it to track my habits, to do lists and other stuff.
Watching a youtube video, I liked these ones from BooQool as they are cheap and only "problem" looks like might be the number of pages.
https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Dotted-Journal-Notebook-Hardcover/dp/B0778KGTTB#customerReviews

Anyone has tried them? Since most probably I won't draw or colour too much, do you think there are better(or cheaper) option to buy for me?
I go through notebooks all the time. If you want to be cheap the Amazon Basics notebook is good https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DN8TB5U. There are nicer ones for more money too.

Really nice kit! The only things I would change are pretty minor. I would swap the notebook for a Rite in the Rain one and I would add a Sharpie.
I've had good luck with Vela Notebooks, particularly their smaller computation notebook. I also have one of their larger project notebooks which I'm currently using for a study. Not being able to remove pages allows me to maintain a chronological order of my notes, and helps me when I need to find something (a formula, a specific problem with some machine, etc.) quickly.
Some notes about me: I'm still a student at a military academy, so I have to have a notebook of some sort on me pretty much all day. I use the Vela offerings because they are very durable, the paper stands up to fountain pens, and the ink on the page is a nice photocopier-blue.
Maybe this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but I think the notebook route is the way to go!
Not *exactly what you're looking for, but I'm very happy with my system. I have a Saddleback Leather notebook cover filled with a Rhodia Webnotebook.
I've been doing this for weekly and daily stuff for the past year, still use google calendar for long term stuff.
I use these write in the rain notebooks because they fit in pockets easily and they hold up really well.
Thank you! It's a Minimalism Art classic notebook. $11 on Amazon! I'm really pleased with my choice.
Thank you! If you’re interested in getting one, I believe it’s [this one.]https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1CP9KE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_uiiACbMXRW1YH

These are pretty nice and about the right size. Wire binding though.

WHY HAVENT THEY TAKEN IN AMY SCHUMER YET!!!!
So long as you're not looking for perforated paper, I like the Kokuyo Campus notebooks. They're fountain pen friendly (though I've never tested them with anything larger than medium nibs), have different colors, and have a very convenient "dotted-ruled" layout.
I have a few journals I dont know the name of which I bought a while that work fine. But my more recent one for example, the notebook I just added to the products page, The ZLYC notebook is fine with fountain pens. It was also the first Journal that i've decided to really keep track of and decided to do daily.
My moleskine is good with fountain pens too.

Unfortunately, several companies sell the comp pads with no on-page branding. I'm guessing from the first image that you're looking for a green pad but some companies offer a buff pad using the same paper, tan with a brown grid. Might be an alternate option to use while searching.
If Ampad isn't to your liking, you might also look into

Kokuyo Campus B5 semi dotted
No bleed through. Minimal ghosting. Paper thin and smooth Japanese paper goodness. And well priced. 10/10 would recommend.
Maruman Mnemosyne. Wirebound, semi-hardcover, great fountain pen paper, ~$6-7 for one notebook, and it has 80 sheets (160 back and front): https://www.amazon.com/Maruman-Hardcover-Executive-Notebook-N195A/dp/B00TES8EHA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1535955234&sr=8-3&keywords=maruman+mnemosyne
I've been using these for meetings and for other work related needs. There are also different sizes in case you want something bigger or smaller than A5.
The blank leuchtturm comes with a guide sheet (lined on side, grid on the other). I didn't think I needed a index until I had it, now I love it.
You could also try these, https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Classic-Notebook-Large-Squared/dp/B01DN8TB5U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1474260253&sr=8-3&keywords=Amazon%2BBasic%2Bnotebook&th=1 to start out
A search for “grid lab notebook hard cover” or the like (key is to search for lab notebooks) usually turns up a few options. I like B5 or US Comp book grid notebooks very much and these turn up frequently in my searches for that size, but there are larger formats available as well. Would this suit?
Can’t vouch for paper quality, but reviews are promising.
Engineering log books could be another option, depending on how picky you are about the grid size/color, or if you’d be bothered by the spaces provided in the margins for recording information that may not be relevant for your purposes. Lab notebooks are sometimes printed with this layout as well, but it’s a little less common.
Both of these have advantages for bullet journalers (dk if that’s a thing you’re into) in that more often than not they have numbered pages and an index section. I have not found any with an elastic band, but that’s a dead simple diy with a length of your chosen elastic, a $3 pack of rivets and a hammer!

I find that it really helps to have a piece of paper, both blank and graph, handy. (This is perfect) then to work out a smaller version of the problem by hand, then automate the process via program.
There are many Rite in the Rain products on Amazon.com.
Here is a link to a 3-pack for $17.77 with free shipping.
A couple of them were a gift from a friend that works as a contractor on an Air Force base. The rest I got as a 12 pack on eBay. I don't see any currently listed, but this one on Amazon is the same, just sold individually.
edit: Here is a 12 pack. I didn't pay nearly that much though.
I started this Moleskine two and a half years ago. I write almost every day and sometimes have pretty long entries, yet I'm only 75% of the way done.
At my summer job working for World Class Electronics Company, I was introduced to National 42382. They used it to sketch out their cutting-edge designs. It's very nice stuff. I prefer to use it with a Pentel P205 mechanical pencil (link) and 0.5mm 2B lead.
But when that's not available I just grab a few sheets of copier paper and scribble with whatever Bic pen happens to be laying about.
These were my favorite notebooks throughout college.

Mine is advertised as cream and I like it very much. I've always gone for colored paper over pure white, though. All depends on what you want to do with it color scheme-wise, I guess, and if a detail like paper color would bother you. These are the ones I use.

I've never tried one myself, but Redbubble has a good selection of hardcover journals! Unfortunately, there's no dot grids as far as I'm aware of- lined, graph, and blank are the only options I saw available.
I looked up "dot grid journal" on Amazon though and a bunch of hardcover ones came up! Here are a few:

I honestly haven't bothered to submit anything before, but I went ahead and dug something out of my notebook, the first least unformed and incomprehensible thing I could find:
https://www.reddit.com/r/poetry_critics/comments/84ikh0/horribly_unedited_first_draft/
If I don't get back on something, it's because I don't get email notifications from here, and sometimes go a week or more between visits. But feel free to PM me any time.
Writing can be a real struggle, especially when it comes to finding ways to express emotions. And poetry is it's own special struggle. It isn't as pure as composing music, and it's harder than simply writing prose.
Your honestly is incredible, and appreciated. I myself have been informed that I have ADHD, but I usually consider it "not being able to handle the really, really boring stuff." That's half an excuse and half an accurate description. They can tell me I have whatever they want as long as they prescribe me amphetamines.
I keep a small notebook, specifically one of these, but obviously much cheaper options in that form factor are available. And I prefer a Pilot G-2 or Uni-Ball Signo, black medium tip (.7 mm) on both. The pen is more important than the paper. Without the right pen the writing looks wrong to me, no matter what it is. I prefer writing everything by hand for the first few drafts, regardless of length. Basically everywhere I go, I have a pen and a notebook nearby. I end up doing most of my writing in the car.
As far as Reddit goes, I'm a relative newcomer, but you'll find all sorts of weird rules on different subreddits, and widely varying levels of how strictly they're actually enforced. This is a smaller sub, which tends to mean one extreme or another: very strict rule application or the rules are highly theoretical. I think they're more on the strict side here, but I have not empirically verified this.
Some subreddits are utterly fascist and have bots that remove your posts if you misplace a punctuation mark in the title or fail to capitalize "spoilers", but thankfully that isn't the case here.
Sure. Even in the case of this green notebook it can be hard to find the old school originals.
I buy these from Amazon regularly

The first two are just paper binding. That last one is the closest to the original but even that is noticeably different.
This paper, while expensive, is totally worth it.
Goes well with this http://www.amazon.com/Military-Book-Memorandum-LogBook-7530-00-222-3521/dp/B0064M7X30/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422240816&sr=8-1&keywords=log+book

Amazon!
Here is an Amazon link for these little guys.
Eligible for prime too!
Depending on your budget you can go for Muji, Moleskins or Ban.do! Amazon also carries a few that are cute
It's worth it to invest in some good tools.
I understand the appeal of having a nice, left handed notebook, but they've existed in Asia for years as standard-issue.
If you want a small paper planner, I would go simple with something like a Moleskine pocket notebook.
They also make a "daily planner" type thing with one day per page, but that's kind of overkill IMO.
I've thought about this same idea, but I end up using my phone mostly (some of which has been deleted due to upgrades). From the sound of what I think you're looking for, check out a pocket moleskin journal. It should fit in a back jeans pocket, depending on your size, and it's designed to last. The cover and binding won't wear as easily. It has a ribbon bookmark and an elastic band to keep it closed. They come in ruled, squared, and plain. An idea I had while looking was to date the first page at the start and completion. When you move to the next, you can file it away and have some semblance of order when you're looking for some old idea or drawing.
EDIT: The dating thing is not as clever as I thought. It's a customer image.
I got these on Amazon. Not expensive, good quality paper (I really just use a Pilot G2 but don't notice much ghosting/bleed), lays flat, has a pocket in the back, page marker and elastic to close/do the pen trick with.
ETA: I think there was a blank page version too if you prefer that to the dots.
I use Aqua Notes for shower ideas.
https://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Notes-Water-Proof-Note/dp/B01AS5I0ZS
I've never tried them but they sell these shower notepads. Could work to write down thoughts, then have a reminder on your phone to check the shower pad once a week.
I use Rhodia Webnotebooks and haven't turned back.

> Moleskin
Moleskines are a small leather bound notebook many people carry with them. Here is one example.
Happy Cake Day!

I started using a moleskine watercolor album for this purpose. Though, I'm trying to find a middle ground. I'm thinking of trying this journal next: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0778KGTTB/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A21RF5V4SLR0ZM&psc=1
this one doesn't bleed through as much as many do

Hmmm, I'm not sure of one that fits all your specifications but Maruman has a smaller Mnemosyne that's similar in size to an A5. Here's a link to it (and other options) on Amazon.com.
Is it this sketchbook?

I've been looking for one that could be used for both water color and pencil
Thanks for the comment. Most netbooks are unusable in the sun. Pixel qi has a screen PQ101WS01M with a 0.52 W draw. So correct me if I am wrong, but 0.52 draw 7 days 24 hrs = 88 watt/hrs. A generic dell battery would do the trick.
As for price, rock bottom pricing wasn't really the goal. Think of Moleskin notebooks.

Spent money? Write it down.
It is probably silly things like coffee and Doritos.
Also; pay yourself first man. Don't let that money leak away; be broke for two weeks. Put gas in the car; buy groceries; and pay all the bills.
And yes; I'm suggesting a physical notebook over Mint.com
Sorry guys, got busy and forgot to add a list.
This is what I usually have on me.
Sieht nach typischen Pigment Linern aus, kann die von Staedtler empfehlen. Das Skizzenbuch sieht nach nem klassischen Moleskine oder Leuchtturm 1917 aus
