Sorry for the slow replies- I got caught up in moving back to school!

For what it's worth (and not having been in the space), I do think the last layout here looks the best and it would be easy to fill the empty space although not necessarily with the furniture you have now (maybe the table and chairs would fit under the window but a real sofa table/buffet table/sidebaord would look really good).

To answer your questions:

The angle looks odd just because it's so slight that it looks almost accidental.

The location of the table is more of an issue than the table itself but if you still want a table available for use I think you should get the norden gateleg table from ikea and keep it completely folded up when not in use. Then, depending on what fits and where your other furniture ends up, I would put it against the wall between the stairs and door, against the wall where the wavy mirrors are, or maybe where the table currently is but arranged as a side table for the sofa (if it's not too tall). Actually, it would also look good as a sofa table using the layout I like best.

I don't think the red lid is a particular problem or asset w/ the ottoman. I am not a fan of that kind of ottoman to begin with (having had several over the years!) so my advice won't be that useful.

I still think a bigger rug would look better but I wouldn't say it should be your first priority. And I know I'm now coming off as extremely pushy but I do think your size rug looks fine with my preferred layout but noticeably small with yours.

Not sure what you mean by big table on the rug. I would not put any of your current furniture on the rug. I think a coffee table would eventually look nice but is definitely not necessary. Overall I think you will end up with a definite improvement with the changes you mentioned, especially dealing with the table!

Also- I know art is really all down to personal preference, but I would suggest looking for more subtle red accents like this or this. And you definitely have a lot of space to fill and could use multiple pieces or a multiple canvas piece like this or these. Also you can get big frames at ikea if you want to make something cheaper like a nice poster look more formal/classy. Good luck!

u/archaeologistbarbie · 1 pointr/Bento

I am new to the bento game and do not own any traditional bento boxes because I don't like being tied to keeping all my food the same temperature/I am sometimes weird about food touching. I have several lunch-packing sets though, including:

-yumbox panino http://www.yumboxlunch.com/product-category/yumbox-panino/

-a laptop lunches set http://secure.laptoplunches.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=L600%2Djubilee&eq=&Tp=

-rubbermaid lunch blox http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?CatName=FoodStorage&SubcatId=LunchBlox&Prod_ID=RP092026

-a ton of small Tupperware containers (the 1oz smidgets are my favorite for sauces!) http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001E3DMXY?pc_redir=1411221899&robot_redir=1

Honestly, my laptop lunches boxes get the most use because they're microwave safe, seem very sturdy, they have their own outside container that they fit in quite neatly, the containers stack well when not in use, and I find the colors very appealing. They also seal REALLY well, and I have had no problems with them leaking, staining, or retaining smells.

My yumbox gets a lot of play for salads, but isn't practical for foods I may want to microwave. It's only good for foods that are all the same temp. It is as leakproof as advertised! I find it visually appealing but is a bit bulky to wash in the sink at work because it is only 2 parts (tray and outer shell). The footprint is actually smaller than my laptop lunches container but since I usually use the lidded inner containers for that, I don't need to wash the outer container as frequently. With the yumbox that's not an option!

I wish I hadn't bought the lunch blox. They're fine, honestly, but just fine. They're like a cheaper, less sturdy version of my laptop lunches containers. I was attracted by the ice pack they come with and the fact that they're supposed to all lock together, but in reality they don't lock as well as I'd like. The smallest containers don't seem to stay stuck in to the ice pack well at all. I'm also not sure how leak proof they are, as I've only used them a few times.

Finally, I would definitely recommend checking out those tiny tupperwares for sauce. They are thick, not flimsy, and they have a press on lid that seals really well. I use mine frequently for all sorts of things!

Edit: the links I inserted below have parentheses within the link themselves so I apologise for the bad formatting

You need to establish the two areas of the rooms, the kitchen/dining area, as well as the living space. An area rug would work best in the main space. I would go with coordinating small round rug and one small kitchen floor mat in front of the sink.

I also suggest a small kitchen island with foldable counterspace as well as a cuppy underneath for the microwave. A couple of bar stools and you also have a dining space. This can go directly where the microwave is currently. If you get one on wheels it could easily be used for other sort of things such as game night to fit four people at.

The plant is a nice touch and I always say the more greenery the better. Focus on low light, low water plants for easiest indoor maintenance.

You also definitely need curtains.

A large decorative mirror as well as some art work on the wall above the sofa would brighten the space up as well as make it look larger. I would also move the tall lamp to the opposite corner near the TV and get a nice table lamp instead for beside the couch.

I'll include some links for pieces I would go for, based on the current color scheme available through the sofa and throw pillows.

I LOVE these dvd storage cubes

these are probably the best thing ever for storage. they come in other colors i just couldn't finfd on amazon.

and use these with them. again come in multiple colors. Both the shelf and bins are cheaper at like walmart and kmart, the bins are like $2 a piece and i got the shelf for $35.

and then these water speakers

and this awesome light projector

i like these salt lamps which help clean the air and give a nice relaxing lighting

and this because everyone should have a lucky elephant in their room

thsee pillows

i have this wall art and love it, but it's not purple or black.

but this is purple

maybe this

and then i think you should go to kirklands and buy lots because kirklands is the best store ever.

and wall sconces

What an amazing idea for a contest!

  • I am perfectly okay with giving our address to you.
  • I have an intro and have gifted before.

Three of our favorite restaurants are:

  • Texas Roadhouse
  • P.F. Chang's
  • Applebees

  • I would be taking my husband of almost 16 years. Being parents of 5 kids, ages 14,13,12,11 & 5 we never have the money or time to go out on a date. The last time we had a date night was 12 years ago. People always say "You should pay yourself first before paying bills", but when you live on one disability check a month, it's never a possibility to pay ourselves first. They also look at us in shock and utter disbelief when we tell them that we haven't had a date night in 12 years. I wish I was joking, but I'm not. I would absolutely love to win this and be able to say "Dinners on you, kind stranger...thank you!"

Item that is interesting from Amazon.

Thank you for the contest. :)

Well they actually sell tons of prints of the Mona Lisa. If nobody attempts to pass it off as the Da Vinci original, it's fine. As a matter of fact, there are numerous replicas being sold that aren't even prints, but actual paint on canvas:

http://www.amazon.com/Mona-1503-1506-Canvas-Replica-Painting/dp/B007KDCFMG

If you wanted too, then yeah, you could start selling your own Mona Lisa replicas. This is similar to this situation. He isn't trying to pass off his knockoffs as the real thing. It's a knockoff and it's being acknowledged as such. He doesn't fake the CF or the CXE markings.

Your analogy is more relevant in the case of art forgeries where the forger tries to pass it off as the real thing. This is not what is happening here.

For another example, see the LOVE structure, which was originally created by Robert Indiana:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_(sculpture)

and it's derivatives:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Love_sculptures

Guess what, Robert Indiana does not get royalties for the reproductions, and the reproductions are legal as well.

Chalkboard Tile Sheets I have a few of these and have more on my wishlist because I absolutely love them. Also, they're great for children! :)

These are adorable!

This is $10 over your budget, but it's so lovely I had to share.

Another lovely option, much more inexpensive.

Rub a dub dub, three men in a tub. :)

u/justanothergnome · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This because the message itself is really cheesy but I love it non the less.

Thanks for the contest! :)

Ohhh. I voted for Monaco a few days ago on Steam! It looks like a super-cute version of Leverage as a video game. My Steam ID is ellioop.

Money makes the world go 'round - pffft on being poor! If I had a big ol' wad of cash, I'd splurge on a really good saddle-style office chair, reason being that the rickety second-hand chair I have at my desk is absolutely killing my back, haha. Saddle chairs are pretty nifty, and they encourage good posture and no slouching! I'd get this one, and some pretty metallic spray paints, and paint some leopard spots on it... because I'm nothing if not classy.

u/KHeaney · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Table plan/numbers.

Most quotes were like £100 for a table plan, then like £15 for 10 table numbers.

Instead I have bought 7x£5 frames from Ikea (could go cheaper but picked the nicer ones), calligraphy writing the table place lists and setting them all out on the gifts table, then 6x£2.50 lanterns from Ikea and painting a number on them.

So £50 instead of £115. (Or £45, I'm not sure if you need a seating plan for the head table?) I haven't included cost of the parchment effect paper because it's paper I already have around. We're also going to re-purpose the frames after the wedding to give some family a nice framed wedding picture of us.

We're also getting a flatpack MDF post box for £14 instead of renting one for £40 or £15 for a cardboard one. Again, not including paint cost because we already have paint.

I'm also going to try and buy a £10 veil off amazon instead of paying £100 at the bridal store, but we'll see what the quality is like when it comes in and I can just use the cheap one at the hen do if it sucks. I suppose it depends on the size that you want, I only want mine butt-length.

We're not DIYing much because we don't want the stress.

I have one like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dimplex-Cadiz-Electric-Free-Radiator/dp/B002G09OXQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen-appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1478103911&sr=1-1&keywords=dimplex

which costs 110 pounds, so probably you think is very expensive. I have used it for 3 winters, and it was very cheap. My flat is only electric, and during winter I spend like 50 pounds a month including everything (lights, daily shower, I don't cook though, although I do washing and drying).

I havent calculated how much the heater costs me... but it is kind of marginal. it is very efficient, and will heat a room easily.

I recommend you check gumtre but similar heaters.

Thanks for your advice, I'm going to start the operation this weekend!

Is there a particular type of sand/substrate you would recommend? I grabbed this from the Wiki, but would appreciate any advice you would have!

>Cacti require well-drained soil. This means a soil made of a mix of gravel, grit, sand, pearlite, or other chunky material that does not retain moisture.

> A good inexpensive and readily available base for your cacti soil is NAPA 8822 Oil Absorber. Crushed pumice, any 'high-fired' or 'calcined' diatomaceous earth or clay, or Turface is a perfect base. Any auto parts store should have a product similar to the afore mentioned NAPA 8822.

I was thinking about grabbing this from Amazon as the base soil....is there a rooting hormone or similar for cacti?

I am currently using this soil it says it is "free draining" but those seem to consist of mostly organic ... Should I get some perlite to make it even more free draining ?

I also have the same brand fertilizer which says 1.4 : 0.7 : 2.7 on the label will this work ?

Thanks for your help

Best bet might be to buy the bottles separately in bulk and fill them yourself, if you have a bit of time you could make fun party labels for them too.

These Wolf boxes are pretty decent. If you want one that will fit everything in then it might be a little too large/heavy to carry around but worth a look as there are lots of sizes, including this pretty ridiculous Deluxe Ultimate edition.

u/delusionsofgrandad · 2 pointsr/AskUK

We have spiders, but:

Outside, you'll likely never see one unless you're looking closely.

Inside, house spiders only turn up at certain times of the year (Spring and Autumn).

None are bigger than the palm of your hand (including legs) though, except the cardinal spider and ones that size are extremely rare (I've seen one in 36 years). Most are much smaller than that.

All are harmless to humans. You'll see more in the country than the city.

You could always buy one of these just in case!

u/n4pth4 · 1 pointr/tarantulas

Just get one of these and you'll both be able to move then easily and quickly without hurting them. Im afraid you can't get rid of them, and as mentioned, mature males will be more adventurous, so you can expect to see large spiders on a regular basis

Thank you for the information. Hopefully someone else can identify the species. Does [this] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Focus-Repotting-Mix-Litre/dp/B007797622) look suitable for the soil?

Oh also, the pot that it's in doesn't have holes at the bottom, is that a problem? I'd like to have this indoors on my desk, and as such don't want stuff draining out, unless there's a solution to that.

u/DarthLily · 41 pointsr/mountandblade

Wanted to see if this was in fact one of the first results on google for "viking warrior", and yeah, it was the third one.

But also, someone stole it and they are selling it at amazon as a "hand painted" poster...

Thanks for your input, I’ll take them out and repot them, I’ll find some moss like you said to put inside, I hadn’t seen the idea with a cactus before and I guess this is why

What is the issue with the soil I’m using as it’s supposed to be for cacti and succulents this is the soil I’m using

u/FaeLLe · 1 pointr/succulents

The person who sold it to me said to not water them till February end or March. It will be repotted in some nice mix that has worked for my pony tail palm and dracaenas - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Focus-Repotting-Mix-Litre/dp/B007797622

They just do not clump together even when watered so I think it is okay, I can even mix some perlite in if you recommend. The grit is very minuscule too (maybe 1-2 mm max).

How will I recognise signs of lack of sunlight? Since the species I have do not grow too tall how will they elongate?

u/king_crow · 2 pointsr/funny

My current go-to mix is 1:1 of this compost: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Focus-Repotting-Mix-Litre/dp/B007797622, and perlite, which my other plants seem to enjoy. Gritty enough, or go grittier?

HA ! I have something to help ! Get a spider catcher !

I have arachnophobia - with panic attacks, crying, can't breathe, takes 2 hours to calm down... This little tool has been a life saver. You can catch the spider with it and release outside (avoid having to get close to it and kill it and then having to dispose of it), and most importantly, it makes me feel safe. It's stupid maybe, but it's my weapon I guess ? When I have a spider in my home I grab it and it reduced my panic attacks greatly, I deal with it quickly and on my own, and recover in 15 minutes. It was a silly gift from my parents but it seriously is so, so useful when you have a phobia. Good luck, I know how you feel <3
