Posting as an update because we finally finished the toddler bed project and I actually got around to taking some better photos. This took us way too long to complete but I'm so proud of how it came out, especially given our tight budget.

Link to the original post.

I actually also just found out I'm expecting again due July 2020 so I'd love any tips on shared infant/toddler rooms! So far I plan to move the little table into our office, then move the tent into the corner the table currently is, so that the crib (same one from the original post) can go where the tent is now.

Top Five Product/Gear List (hasn't changed, so I'll just copy/paste)

1. Crib: IKEA

I know a lot of people choose this crib for budget reasons, but I honestly prefer its simplicity to many others I’ve seen that cost 2-6x as much. It’s a great minimalist nursery pick and you can’t beat the price.

2. Book Baskets: Amazon

We have these same ones in our kitchen as fruit baskets, and I mainly like that they match. But they also hold a lot of books, which is great. I think I might add a fourth basket because we’re currently at capacity.

3. Wall Decals: Amazon

These were super easy to apply and one pack was the exact quantity that I needed for the whole wall, which made my OCD happy.

4. Hatch Baby Rest: Amazon

This was a gift from my dad last xmas and I honestly wish I had set it up sooner (we were pretty short on space with the renovations in progress). I love that I can control it from my phone and I’m excited for the “time to rise” feature as she gets older.

5. Tent: DIY Tutorial

I followed this tutorial for the main frame, but I wanted a more minimal look for the fabric portion so just made some simple channels for the dowels to pass through at the bottom. I also added some holes near the top to pass a string through and secured it with wood beads, to prevent it from splaying open too far and collapsing. This project requires beginner sewing and woodshop skills, but the end result is awesome. This was our birthday gift to our daughter and she loves it so far.

For my last birthday, my brother got me this cool lumos light switch. There are lots of options for similar products online and it's a project that you could probably easily make yourself with supplies from a craft/hardware store.

I had a friend give me a wall transfer once that she made with her cricut. It looked something like this and it's been on my wall for ages. Same friend also made me a couple pillows with the same machine that had Dumbledore quotes on them. Imagine this but with "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places..." on it.

I've also given out an "After Harry Potter" set of books before. For those who read Harry Potter and think "what now?" I'm sure this could be catered to the receiver, but the set I gave my friend had Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Lev Grossman's The Magicians, a printed and spiral bound set of Pottermore writings (or the ones that were available at the time), and The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook. I think I had one or two more, it was a couple years ago.

I also handmade a pair of Luna's radish earrings for a friend once. I followed a tutorial online and it was surprisingly easy - just required a pair of earrings, some wire, and a few beads and they looked great.

I guess it all depends on what kind of gift you want to give her. There is a Harry Potter application for just about everything. If your girlfriend doesn't have a lot of the standard merchandise already, you might try just checking out the local bookstore. With the release of Cursed Child, most bookstores in my area now have entire tables dedicated to Harry Potter gear. Last time I was at a Barnes and Noble I walked out with a Marauder's Map blanket. I've been sorely tempted by that 3D Hogwart's puzzle a time or two as well. And when I went on the WB studio tour, I got this really cool wand necklace. It comes in an Ollivander's box, though it is a bit pricey.

Good luck. Happy birthday to the gf!

  1. The rocker glider we got off of craigslist for $100. Super comfortable and clean! Way better than the old Windsor one I had that broke within a month. I’m not sure the brand but it’s very good quality and the folks we bought it from said it was from a friend’s furniture store.

  2. The crib and dresser set were $150 for the pair, also bought off of craigslist. Amazing score! They’re both Delta products. The changer topper was bought off amazon to hold the pad in place:

Mini Tudou Musical Baby Crib... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G9BHLYV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

  4. I couldn’t find the link to the storage cubes for some reason, but it was a SONGMICS 6-cube storage rack, also bought off amazon. The cubes were separate:

I absolutely love this piece with the art we also bought off amazon above it. The frames were from dollar tree! We use the cubes to store his blankets, extra changing pads, pump materials, toys, extra bottles and pacifiers, etc.

We originally wanted to do a space and elephant themed room, then changed it to animals and space, then changed it to a general sky theme. These pictures are from yesterday when we finally finished, a day before our c section we were just surprised with! Due to complications this ended up being our best option, I’m sitting in the waiting room right now trying not to think about how thirsty I am, haha. Pictures and birth story are soon to come of our baby boy Isaac! 😊

Edit: ignore the plain gray sheet on the twin bed, that will have a comforter set on it soon for my seven year old daughter who will be joining us part time in a couple months. It’s hard to see in the photos but we put some glow stars over her bed, and my mother will be making her a sheer canopy to hang over as well.
u/jonesbottlecaps · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

I wanted a Stars theme originally. I was going to do more of a blue/constellations but then I ordered the wrong color of changing table. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I decided to go with basic grey and white stars instead. I’m very happy with the result even though I wish I could afford more decorations/matching color blackout curtains. Here are my top 5:

Grey star decals - these were so easy to peel and stick. It took forever to place them the way I wanted but I would cover the wall with them if I could.

Stars felt Pom Pom garland - beautiful little handmade garland from Etsy. It only took 5 days to ship and it looks lovely.

Jenny Lind Crib - I really love homey, vintage looking things. I’m lucky that my MIL gifted us this crib for our Christmas present last year.

Wooden letter - a cheap hobby lobby find (with coupon). I wanted to incorporate his name but I didn’t want to spend money on a fancy decal. Using all the letters would look clunky, so I think a simple wood letter ended up being perfect.

Storage Bins - these basic storage bins have so much room in them! I’ve stored all of the essential things he will need in them (medicine, bath stuff, feeding, etc). I think the colors look great too.

While it’s not the most instagram worthy nursery, it’s cute, cozy and it feels good to have it finally ready for my little man when he arrives.

u/CharPeiMama · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

So this is baby # 2 and we were all about the hand me downs this time around. Would’ve liked to paint but we rent and I didn’t feel like dealing with all that. We did have a baby sprinkle and scored some big ticket items like a double stroller, infant car seat, diapers, and swing. First time mamas, let me encourage you to buy secondhand. I could’ve saved literally over a $1,000 on my first born’s nursery had I been a little more open to used items. IMO, both nurseries are just as nice except this one was substantially cheaper to create.

Not easily seen from my poor quality video are Babar prints. If you can just look past the fact that it’s a story endorsing French imperialism, one can’t resist having an elephant nursery without Babar the elephant!

Top five items:

1.) Secondhand IKEA crib; my friend used this with all three of her kids. It is the Snigler crib. Super basic but super reliable.

2.) Dresser: secondhand, purchased on Facebook marketplace. Also has changing table topper but we omitted using that and just secured the changing pad to back of dresser.

3.) Elephant decals: Wall Pops WPK0841 WPK0841 Tag... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2XCOB4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

LUCKKYY Elephant Family Wall Decal Removable Vinyl Wall Art Elephant Bubbles Wall Stickers Baby Nursery Wall Decor (Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C7Y4F3D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kbhwDbJVV9ATB

4.) Hatch sound machine: we used this with our first (still do) and it was a sleep game changer. In my opinion, the best white noise machine on market. Also doubles as an ok to wake clock and is operable from your smart phone!

Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine, Night Light and Time-to-Rise https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XMRCC94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KchwDbHWZB7S4

5.) Ubbi diaper pail: we’ve tried several diaper pails over the years and this is the most smell proof and easy to use. It has a lock mechanism to prevent curious hands from digging through dirty diapers and can use regular garbage bags.

Ubbi Steel Odor Locking, No Special Bag Required Money Saving, Awards-Winning, Modern Design Registry Must-Have Diaper Pail, Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00821FLSU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eehwDb961APP4

More photos here!
We’re second time parents expecting a baby boy any minute now (I’m being induced tomorrow morning if he doesn’t come sooner!) and we’ve already done a soft gray gender neutral nursery for our dd. This time I wanted something a little darker with pops of color. We completely renovated our guest room with new trim and paint and drywall work on the closet to make this room happen. I guess you could call the theme travel and exploration but it’s truly just a mix of things that my husband and I liked. I’m thrilled with the result and can’t wait to bring this baby home to it very soon!

Top 5:

  1. Sweet Baby James pop-up book My mother-in-law used to sing this song to my husband when he was a baby and it’s our daughter’s favorite. This little book has gorgeous illustrations.
  2. Curtains and Starry table lamp from Target. However, I don’t recommend ordering the lamp online, I received 2 broken lamps and 1 with a crushed shade but I was able to combine two of them into one complete lamp. It was ridiculous!
  3. The moon, stars, and cloud decals are from amazon and I combined two different packs into one. They’re a little bumpy on our textured walls but I think it makes them look painted on!
  4. I hand painted some of the artwork (Dream Big and Henry) and the lemur was a free printable. There’s also a free print from NASA which is one of many awesome space exploration posters.
  5. The ottoman was made by a graduate of our theatre program who now has an MFA in scenic design. One of her first big projects was to make a pouf for The Secret Garden and she made us this baby pouf for our daughter and now it goes perfectly in our son’s room!

There are a few special items on the gallery wall including an elephant from my dad sitting next to a copy of the Velveteen Rabbit and a wooden wall hanging featuring Noah's ark and a rainbow, both gifts from my younger brother. There's a book from my mom called "I love you more.” There's also a set of temperature gauges from my older brother and a collage that my daughter and I made out of cut paper and glue stick one Saturday.
u/moondog55 · 1 pointr/OctoberBumpers2017

I don't want to do pictures until it's all done, but I'm very psyched about how our nursery is coming along so far. It's an outdoor indoor/woodsy theme. The walls are painted periwinkle with a really neat mural of brightly colored trees and hills on 3/4 walls. The ceiling is painted dark blue, and we stuck a bunch of these glow in the dark stars up there to make it look like the night sky. We also have some cute artwork, a cozy gray glider, a crib with woodsy-themed crib sheets, a birdhouse lamp we're putting on the wall to look like it's hanging in one of the trees, and a big area rug where the pattern kinda looks like grass. We also have pretty mint green curtains up, and we'll eventually be adding a book shelf (because we now have a TON of books) and probably this growth chart as I think it'll go really well with the rest of the room. The room is still filled with boxes and stuff, but I go in there all the time to rock in the glider, because it's so peaceful and pretty, definitely the nicest area in the house design-wise right now!

  1. I have no idea about toasters and I'm useless, typically when I buy appliances I go to CL.. you can get really nice appliances for extremely cheap! researching before you buy usually prevents any issues-

when I was looking for toasters for you I found this weird USBhub shaped like a toaster

but I highly recommend a toaster with a toaster oven because those are extremely useful!! like this one

  2. I love huge vinyl wall decals in the shapes of trees or some such pleasing thing...like these

    and these

  3. I love surprises so surprise me? :D

a new place is so exciting! I love filling in all the little details, I can't wait to have a place of my own to do these sorts of things haha. what is your new home like?
u/troll_wifey · 1 pointr/RandomKindness

This is such a generous offer!

Today I found out that my application for graduation was approved and not only will I finally be graduating this summer with my Master's degree in teaching (I've been trying to complete grad school for over 4 years because of various things complicating the process), but that my financial aid has been approved for my last few summer courses so I don't have to come up with all tuition money out-of-pocket! This is a huge deal since I live in New York and most of the school districts around me require a Master's degree to even have your application for a job looked at - hopefully now I can finally get my own classroom! :)

And while gifting isn't necessary, I'd be more than happy if you wanted to gift out these awesome knitting needles so I can make some awesome hats and things!

u/insomniatica · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Here's one that has good reviews, comes in purple or grey, has extra wide slots, and has bagel and frozen and other settings

I suggest getting a wall decal! Theyre cheap and awesome. Like this one that's Dr Seuss, and inspirational... or this one that gives you areas to place pictures. But you can also get 3D butterflies and chalkboard sheets.

As for gift, what I'd really like is some new watercolors (either cakes or pencils) and I need more paper. Probably one of the mixed media visual journal booklets as they're the best bang for the buck. Or you can look thru my lists (sorted by price) to whatever your budget is and find something with a "high" or above ranking if you like.

Hope I helped!!

(Edit: a bot commented on this with all the non-mobile versions of my links, so feel free to check that out if you're on a desktop)

And this is why I like winter more! Although being tan and being able to paint my nails obnoxious colors is definitely a fun part of summer. :)

If you need any more help with prepping for college, just PM me.

Actually one of the things I saw a lot of people doing to make their dorms all pretty was do wall decals and LED lights everywhere. Or those glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. I've seen Japanese lamps hung around and it's beautiful. It's really up to you. :) I personally have the Keep Calm and Carry On poster on my wall, as well as the Now Panic and Freak Out. XD

I'm a sucker for all things Milan Kundera, and so this quote really struck a chord in me.

> "Love is by definition an unmerited gift; being loved without meriting it is the very proof of real love. If a woman tells me: I love you because you're intelligent, because you're decent, because you buy me gifts, because you don't chase women, because you do the dishes, then I'm disappointed; such love seems a rather self-interested business. How much finer it is to hear: I'm crazy about you even though you're neither intelligent nor decent, even though you're a liar, an egotist, a bastard.”

If she likes nature try some cool wall stickers that look like trees.

http://www.amazon.com/WallStickersUSA-Contemporary-Sticker-Colorful-X-Large/dp/B00BMTKPZS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377488346&sr=8-3&keywords=tree

they can help bring a little bit of nature into a home.

u/Cissycat12 · 3 pointsr/ibs

We put this on our main bathroom toilet in hopes that it would bring me "good luck." At least it gets a daily laugh:
https://www.amazon.com/Toilet-Inspired-Admiral-Ackbar-Sticker/dp/B0192B944K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493829071&sr=8-1&keywords=its+a+crap+toilet+decal

u/notsorrycharlie · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

No problem! :)

And for the stencils, again it depends on your style, but since you said you were going for something minimalist, something like this, or this, or this seems fitting. And this might be an example of something that would look cool coming up from behind a low, wide dresser or from behind your bed. (sorry most of them are trees! It seems like that might be something that would work with the national park theme of those prints, though.)

u/call_me_cthulhu_ · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

you could go with this one or this one haha sorry I'm a girl what did you expect? but this one is cool too or these or perhaps this one or my absolute favorite but its too expensive :(

this is $5 plus free shipping.

Hullo! I think I remember being part of your welcome committee. Anyway, my suggestions are these Mario party room decals which are a dollar over your budget, this yoshi decal for your laptop, and this ash ketchum hat

They're "Happi" (by Dena/RoomMates)... Here's the whole set seen in the pictures:
Main Tree

Extra Branch

Big Extra Tree

Little Extra Tree

Everything came from those 4 sets. We did some mixing and matching to try to blend them all together, and there was enough extra stuff for us to stick some in some semi-random places.

Wife should take most of the credit for the decals. She hunted them down and did most of the application. We also found a crib sheet with the same design.

Well, my neighbor a couple houses down the street is a huge Dallas fan (shockingly good guy and good sport). So after every touchdown we score, I take my pitching wedge and one of my Eagles golf balls, and send him a little present. I've gone through quite a few golf balls this season. Night games are an added challenge, but with the help of these bad boys I make it work.
