Oooh, this is a fun challenge.

  • Knife: Spyderco Dragonfly 2 : $49

This is the most expensive item on my list, but I figure that with knives this is the best small EDC knife you can get for the money. I'm not a fan of large knives for daily carry, and the Dragonfly gets the job done.

  • Watch: Casio Men's Sport Analog Dive Watch : $17

While I initial thought was the F-91W, this watch seems to have far better water-resistance for roughly $7 more. Plus I prefer analog watches.

  • Wallet: Magpul Industries Daka Polymer Wallet : $17

While I've never used one of these personally, why not take the loss of all my stuff as an excuse to pare down how much bullshit I carry in my wallet? Reviews (outside of Amazon) seem pretty good and I'd love to give this thing a shot.

  • Multitool: Atwood Prybaby Chinese Knockoff : $3

I like having one of these kinds of dumb little multitools handy for prying and bottle-opening and other random tasks that I wouldn't want to abuse my knife with. At only $3 it's worth the space in my budget and my keychain. Speaking of keychains...

  • Keychain: Stainless Steel Aircraft Cable Keychain : $2

If you're like me, you often have to add and remove keys and other items from your keychain. Wire/cable keychains are the friggin best for this. I generally prefer the ball-and-socket types rather than the kind that screw closed, but I'm counting my dollars here.

  • Writing Utensil: Pilot G2 0.5mm (12-Pieces) : $10.75 per 12, ~$1 per ea.

I can't stand pens that use caps, and nothing writes as well for me as the Pilot G2. 0.5mm is about as fine a line as I want to get because the 0.38mm ones tend to get a bit scratchy on most paper. And if you'll allow me to count the cost as only a dollar rather than the price of a twelve-pack...

  • Bonus Round: Kingston Digital 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive : $9

With a few extra buck open in the budget, I realized that I've had one of these on my keychain for about as long as I can remember, and it pays to have one handy with a copy of your choice of documents, music, and other media. Super handy to keep available at all times.

    --

My total price for these tools puts me at $98, assuming the cost of only one pen. I assumed that I would be able to keep my phone, which provides me with enough illumination that I've never bothered with carrying a dedicated flashlight outside of the colder months when I'm usually wearing a coat. So I didn't bother with choosing one for this challenge. Anyone have any good suggestions for AAA, clicky tail-button flashlights under $20?
u/preferredfault · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I would say most real leather wallets should last. I have a Duck Head brand wallet I bought over 12 years ago and it's still in great shape, sadly the brand doesn't exist anymore. When it comes to real leather wallets, it's the stitching that matters the most, but thick stitching doesn't necessarily mean it will last longer. When it comes to stitching, you want stitching that isn't going to protrude out from the wallet and rub against things, because that's going to wear down the stitching.

The popular style today is minimalist wallets that are primarily for ID and credit cards. I rarely ever carry cash, because if I get mugged, it won't be replaced. I know old timers like to carry hundreds of dollars in cash around, I used to carry around whole paychecks in my wallet, but I think it's a bad habit that should change. Just the other day I was in line at a store and an old guy dropped nearly $200 out of his wallet without realizing, if I hadn't told him he dropped money, someone would have snatched that up quick, there was another guy who was standing nearby who saw it and was eyeing the money, waiting for his chance to swoop in. I was even tempted to take it, but it is the holiday season.

I typically prefer thinner leather wallets, not that cow hide thickness. I don't like to feel a bulge when I sit down, and that's not good for your sitting health anyways. ID, debit card, $20, and insurance papers is all one should carry around in a wallet, otherwise get a satchel/backpack/purse. Thick leather doesn't really last longer than thinner leather, nor does it really look good for longer either. I actually prefer the subtle wrinkles you get in leather over time, gives them character, texture, and makes them more pliable.

I don't know what kind of stitching it's called, but I find that stitching that resembles this : "VVVVVVVVV", is the kind that holds up. Don't buy any wallet that uses the typical "- - - - - - -" type of stitching. It's a gamble and the stitching will usually wear out in a few years at best, no matter how thick the thread is. Also make sure it's double stitched.

I can't recommend any brands though, since its been a long time since I've had to buy a wallet. I've only needed to own 3 my entire life. There's a lot of wallet brands out there that are either over priced or gimmicky or whatever else, just trying to hype a product. The more expensive the wallet......the more likely it is to be a waste of money or break down sooner. I think I payed something like $10-20 for my leather wallet.

It's actually hard to recommend BIFL wallets because they're like clothes....styles and brands are constantly changing. The wallet you buy today, will likely not be on the market 5 years from now. So it's better to look for specific aspects in a wallet rather than just specific brands.

I like to get a good wallet the first time around, get and forget. None of that repair or replace every few years. If I spend $20+ on a wallet, I should never have to worry about wear and tear for at least several years.

Now I'm not giving examples of what to buy here, but I kind of want to show what I'm talking about.

Here are two popular wallets from Amazon (I wouldn't recommend either for different reasons):

https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Swiss-Genuine-Leather-Flip-out/dp/B00MAVN0R2/ref=zg_bs_2475895011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MF5G2QHGR10N6NRTGJG5

https://www.amazon.com/Fossil-Ingram-Trifold-Wallet-Wallets/dp/B00BD2BGZM/ref=zg_bs_2475895011_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MF5G2QHGR10N6NRTGJG5

You'd think the $40 one would be better, but if you look at the stitching, the $15 one is less likely to have the stitching give out. Large bulgy stitching is going to friction against every surface and eventually come apart or come loose and then friction even more, compared to the other one with the smaller stitching that is essentially protected by being indented into the leather, thus it's the leather that will take the contact/friction.

Although the fossil wallet seems more like something you'd be looking for, I really can't stress enough how much stitching matters. It doesn't matter how good the leather might look if you're going to be dealing with a wallet coming apart, and it's hard to restitch a wallet without looking sloppy.

Same thing happened to me. I used to have a fat as fuck wallet (not from money) and then I wondered one day if sitting on this tennis ball in my pocket could cause back problems so I looked it up and yeah now I slimmed down.

I have an obsession with carbon fiber so I am biased, but I got a wallet from common fibers that is amazing. I realized I practically never use cash so I got the slimmest version which was actually discontinued but they still sold me it. It folded on the other axis but this is the updated version. The benefits to me are the look, slimmer in all directions than my iPhone 7, and then I guess carbon fiber is also RFID blocking which is nice if you're worried about that. It somehow feels more secure than those card wallets and you can still fold cash into my model but the other models seem even better for cash.

It fits about the perfect amount of cards. If you can onebag then you can cut out unnecessary cards and fit into a slim wallet like this. There's a ton of apps out there to put cards into your phone as well if needed.

But yeah there's some other good suggestions here. If you just search card wallet on Amazon there's a million options. I tried one like this once and it was fine, but I did feel a little paranoid about cash slipping out or the rubber getting used to having like 8 cards so if I ever travelled with less or had to temporarily stretch it out then I was paranoid it would be loose when I went back to less cards. Plus I do enjoy still having a 'classic' wallet-styld wallet.

u/BayGO · 2 pointsr/oaklandraiders

Minimalist Wallets (sometimes also called "Slim Wallets" - but they're not always the same thing) are even better.

You can hold ALL your needed cards and even some cash (if you actually still carry cash around..) and it takes up way less space - you can literally just fit them in either your front pocket, or better yet, the small extra front pocket present on almost all pants (the one that we never seem to actually make use of, despite it being there).

The Radix One is one that's a really great one, very slick, modern, sleek and easy to use (here's a non-affiliate link to it on Amazon) - I have nothing to do with them, it's just a nice wallet. I've never had a single issue with any cash I may put in it (ex: going to an event) falling out - the tension and friction from the band holds it in just fine.

Get one and never look back. Seriously. You'll wonder why you lugged around a bulky, clunky wallet all those years. It also has the bonus feature of being way less likely to be pick-pocketed since 1) pick-pocketers generally aim for traditional wallets, which are generally in your back pocket, and 2) somehow managing to pull these minimalist wallets out of your small front pocket without you noticing would be much harder to do (they'd have to get right in front of you, generally lift your shirt up a bit, and pull it out of a front pocket which has a higher tension band/seam going into it).

You'll also stop fading and wearing down your pants where your old wallets used to be.

hey thanks for the reply i appreciate it, ive been online all day finding different wallets. its like a whole new world and apparently a hobby i have no idea existed. your wallet seems cool sorry you cant find it either, sucks that this feature isn't more common when its super useful.

ive found a few that seemed interesting that i can link if you wanna look at as well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYZKL3O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A1FPFEIGXHUY0Z&psc=1

Vaultskin MANHATTAN is also a bifold and has a front pocket as well as banknote wide rear slot(which is super rare to find in a minimalist wallet too apparently, everything is either a money clip(maybe ill get used to it if its a nice wallet overall or worse a bungee cord on the back(which is super ew and a no from me dawg haha)

and out of that category i found the secrid to be very interesting, it has a spring slide for cards inbedded in a more traditional wallet form. tho carrying cash can still be a little tricky

Some popular options around here:

  • Magpul Daka $15 - A nice, inexpensive option for a very slim wallet.

  • Herschel Charlie $20 - A very slim wallet, mostly for cards, but can hold cash as well. RFID blocking. Comes in a multitude of patterns.

  • Recycled Firefighter $30 - Very popular slim wallet. Made of recycled fire hoses, very tough-should last a lifetime. Holds 4-8 cards and cash.

  • Big Skinny Slimline $25 - Just your average, classic Bi-fold wallet. Slimmer than most other options in this style.

  • Vaultskin Chelsea $25 - A nice, slim, leather wallet. RFID Blocking is always nice these days. And if the Chelsea is not quite your style, then Vaultskin also has a bunch of other styles in quality materials that may be to your liking. The Manhatten is another popular one.

  • Ridge Wallet $65+ - A bit more pricy option, but very popular. Made with premium materials, and has a classy design. very sleek, and it'll work with cash or cards. You can also find some knockoffs on amazon that will do the same thing at a much lower price point.

This has everything you're looking for. It's the wallet that I recently bought. I comes in 5 colors, my suggestion would be to get the "Cognac" color. I got the "Tan" color but it's a bit too bright brown for my tastes. The Cognac looks like a classic wallet that goes well with everything. Cheers!

Edit: Post is rotated 90 deg, left to right & top to bottom doesn't make sense anymore.

Left to right, top to bottom:

Pens & Tools (I rotate my pocket pen & keep the rest in my bag. Logic dictates when to and which tool to carry.):

Leatherman Supertool Original with sheath - It's crazy to think, but this was retired before I was born. Several of my family members used to work in hardware stores so occasionally these things are found lying around brand new.

Leatherman Juice CS4 - Great little tool, it fits in my pocket without any notice.

Zebra F-701 .7 Black - Great look & feel but it writes like shit. Anyone know a good refill that fits?

Pentel EnerGel .7 Black - Incredibly smooth & bold, not too big a fan of the look.

G2 .38 & .7 Black - G2s, nuff said.

Uniball Signo 207 .7 Black - Comparable to the G2, but it has a metal clip.

Did you notice I pit the EnerGel in here twice? - Because I didn't

Frixion Erasable .7 Black - Ink is really sort of grayish, but it still beats white-out.

Everything Else:

Panasonic RP-HJE120-K IEMS - Perfect for people who are afraid of breaking or losing their buds. I wrap them around a binder clip and attack it to a belt loop with a carabiner.

Keys, Bottle Opener, PNY USB Drive - The flash drive has lubuntu on it. The opener is exclusively for mexican corner store drinks.

Best Made Co. Pocket Notebook - This isn't exactly the one I have but it is the closest I could find.

Dollar Store Notepad - It was 3 for dollar. Would you not buy it?

Dockers Trifold Leather Wallet - Not even close to the one I have, but still the closest they still make.

Not included: School ID, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (Direct picture quality complaints to Samsung except for the lighting, that's just because I suck.)

I have to give a second shout to Bellroy they are quite nice. I also like many of Tumi's wallets.

I currently own this one and it's very nice. In the reviews people complain bout cards cracking but I think they are bending the wallet by sitting on it weird it is quite soft leather and really flexible. I havent had this issue, my red accents did start to fade quickly but I like how they look faded.

If you are looking to save some money you can often find BigSkinny wallets for ~25 and they are very durable.

u/rodmandirect · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

I got this front-pocket wallet about 2 years ago - keep it in the front left - GREAT purchase - it took my butt about a month to realize that it can sit straight now without that bulge in the back. Give it a shot, and GOOD LPT IMO.

u/TheTragicHero · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Got a Nintendo wallet as a gift and I love pulling it out and getting compliments on the size of the length and girth.

u/mrpopsicleman · 2 pointsr/snes

I got both of them pretty close to each other (NES in 1992, SNES in 1993) so I think both are great. I feel like you can't have one without the other. Though I think the SNES had more consistently good games, and is the console that many 2D genres, like platformers and JRPGs, were perfected on.

That being said. I'm sick to death of NES nostalgia. We had it in 2002 with the NES e-Reader cards. We had it in 2004 with the Classic NES Series. We had it in 2013 and 2014 with the NES Remix series and the NES 3DSXL. For over a decade, we've had it on everything from shirts to hats to wallets to shoes. And we have it now with the NES Classic Edition. I get that the NES is iconic, but are they ever going to move on to SNES nostalgia? Yeah, they had the Super Famicom controller for Wii and the Super Famicom New 3DSXL, but both of those were Japan only.

u/Bjandthekatz · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I've had this wallet for about a year, and it has held up very well. The band is still stretchy like the day I bought it. It's a real minimalist wallet, has rfid blocking, and looks very sleek.

Here's a link. Hope you don't mind, made it a smile link :)

I'm carrying the Vaultskin Manhattan slim bifold: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYZKL3O

A lot of the "usual" EDC wallets are highly functional, but they don't look good in a professional setting. I have an office job. If I'm out to lunch with my co-workers, and I fish out my wallet to pay my part of the check, I don't want to be flashing around something that looks like a Navy SEAL should be carrying it. The above wallet has a decent combination of thinness, functionality, and classy good looks ... all for under $30.

Olight S2

HP zbook g4

G-Shock Classic

Sabre Red with Clip Holster for backpack pocket

Travelambo RFID wallet

Some basic first aid stuff I carry is pictured too, foldable mini splint, first aid kit, pocket resuscitator, and a RATS tourniquet. I HATE the RATS, pretty garbage but my old tourniquet has somehow disappeared… plan on replacing it when I have the money. Also, I fucking love local beer!

gerber EAB ( $9 )

Nitecore TIP ($29)

ROCO minimal wallet ($15)

Chapstick ($2)

Earplugs ($7)

Pen ($40)

This looks over-budget, but I bought most of the above on sale. Great thread, I added a few things to my wishlist, that's why I'm posting, to keep this going!

u/Seattleite- · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I was conflicted on whether to post this since there not much "fashion" to this wallet, but I decided not having a bulky wallet that is streamlined and discreet is stylish. It's the All-Ett wallet which is known as the worlds thinnest wallet. It's made of rip-stop nylon, the same material they use on parachute. I've had mine for a few years and love it as a minimalist. The one drawback is a slight crinkle noise when you open and close it. http://www.amazon.com/All-Ett-Black-Inside-Billfold-Wallet/dp/B003VBOI80/. Believe me, this is the thinnest wallet you will ever find.

Reviews are pretty split across the board. I personally have this wallet; the small is still kinda big, but it seems tough. I'd say if you buy the TH, make sure it's being sold directly by Amazon, not a third party. Good luck.

u/pelicularities · 3 pointsr/EDC

I'd try to build this EDC with the assumption that I could keep it for years (if not indefinitely):

Wallet: allett Ultra Slim Sport Wallet - $15

Knife: Opinel No. 6 Carbon - $12

Multitool: Leatherman Style PS - $25

Light: Olight i3s - $15

Pen: Zebra Sarasa Clip - $3

Watch: Timex Weekender - a variant under $30

I EDC a Style PS right now, and have EDCed the Olight i3s and Zebra Sarasa Clip in the past. I own (but have never EDCed) an Opinel No. 8 stainless, and it's excellent, but I wish it were smaller and could sharpen up even more, so No. 6 carbon it is. I've handled allett wallets in stores and trust their usability and quality. The Timex Weekender is the only one on this list that I haven't had direct experience with, but it's the cheapest watch I could find that I'd feel I could keep for a long time.

I would consider any tailstanding AAA light under $15 with a reasonable high and low. I went with the Olight i3s because I've used it, but I'd also take the Lumintop Worm or Thrunite Ti3 if I could get it under $15.

u/AnAsian · 1 pointr/EDC

Maybe round out the bottom corner(s) so they don't 'poke' your pocket as much. Most pants are like a quarter-circle (I am assuming front pocket) so you could follow that so that they are all top aligned to the organizer. I hope what I am saying makes sense. Here's a wallet with the shape I'm thinking of

I decided to go to a two wallet system earlier this year, best decision ever. I have this All-Ett that I use for two IDs, and 2-3 credit cards and cash. Everything else goes into a larger wallet I keep elsewhere. The All-Ett is extremely thin, and I feel much better sitting on it .

They also have an All Ett ID wallet .

I'm much happier now with my thin wallet. You will find that you very rarely needed most of that crap anyway.

I've been using this one I found on Amazon for a while now and I've been really happy with it.

I like the Minimalist and Polare because they are highly stylish and won't break the bank. I don't find it necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on a wallet, where its functionality is essentially the same.

I like the Minimalist because it provides me easy access to my cards and cash, while I avoid unnecessary bulk in my pockets. The Polare wallet is made of high quality leather and the RFID blocking feature gives me peace of mind from getting my information stolen.

I always keep my wallet in my back right pocket because it's easy for me to reach with my right hand. However, if I am sitting I will remove it or put it in my front pocket in order to avoid sitting on it. Your back pocket and wallet can both get damaged if you constantly put all of your weight on them.

Borgasets and Dopp on Amazon look pretty similar to the one in the picture.

u/Ambitious_Nobody · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Polare's wallets are superb in my opinion. It's real cow leather and comes in black or brown. I've had the brown one for about 2-3 years now and it still looks amazing. It does, however, smooth out & darken over time, but I actually prefer that. They are also CHEAP!

Dash Co. Premium Slim Wallet (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YD8VRLG/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_3DUAzbAWQ1DZX

And I've bought over 20 front pocket wallets. This one has been the best for me so far.

Tyvek wallets are best. Like this.

u/marshallu2018 · 1 pointr/EDC

I plan to get one of these soon to replace my current wallet. It's plain brown leather and has that timeless look, plus it'll get more character with age. Has pretty good reviews and it blocks RFID if that's something you're after.

u/TrapperKeeperGuy · 0 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

I really like that first one. My current wallet is an NES controller, but I feel like I need a more professional, leather one now that I'm 30.

My fashion advice? It's trivial and not really worth much time or thought. Pick what you like and keep it- I'm more utilitarian myself (as you may have gathered). Here's a wallet I like.

I just have one of those sticky card holder thing that goes on the back of your phone. I also have this and I quite like it as well.

u/burntsalmon · 2 pointsr/EDC

I don't personally have one, but a few people on here really like this Radix one

Edit: They do make a steel one too.

It's definitely a step in the right direction, thanks a ton for that, but I haven't seen it yet. It looked kind of like this on the outside.

Of course I don't carry all of my cards everywhere, just the 2 or 3 I'm currently using. I like this wallet, have used it for about 6 months: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MAVN0R2

Leather bill fold I've have for nearly three years now. With amazon prime it's around 20$. If in the US opt for the smaller size as the large size is meant for larger bills.

Jacobs Ladder Wallet only $13 at Amazon.

Dash wallet, very light and minimal. I love carrying mine. Recently switched from a wallet case for my iPhone to this wallet and have no complaints about it so far.

Hey man, I know it's been a long time but I kept telling myself I'd reply to you and was always too lazy to look up my recent orders. Radix One Slim Wallet is what it's called, if you're still interested.

It's been sturdy, had it for a few months now and elastic has held up. Thinking about upgrading to another card carrier- looking at the Ridge wallets.

Link below, order history shows I bought it January 2016. Only thing I'll say is I only have 6 mostly flat cards total, if I had more I think it might loosen the band over time.

I'm looking for a new wallet - a small one. There are a bunch of ~$15 "minimalist" wallets on Amazon that are perfect for me, but they all have RFID blocking which is a no no since I keep my metro card in it and don't like taking it out of my wallet when tapping in to the system

I know you all love wallets - any suggestions?

u/SlightTechnician · 1 pointr/EDC

[This wallet] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079DCW7GB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) is what I currently use. I normally put my wallet in my front pocket or if I'm wearing cargo pants in one of the lower pockets. It's got enough space for the cards/cash I normally have but is small and compact.

u/Randomj0e · 25 pointsr/gaming

And now everyone can have it and when everyone has it no one has it. Muahahhaa, wait I don't think I did that right.

u/GorillaArms · 7 pointsr/onebag

I have been using a Roco for a while now. It's two aluminum plates and a band. So far no complaints, I keep about 7 cards in it. Apparently blocks RFID signals, if you're into that. I had a little trouble getting cards out at first, but now it's not a problem. Didn't take long to get used to it, break it in.

Some options for you, i found a lot of really cool wallets but they weren't being made anymore :(

u/polarbeer · 1 pointr/EDC

I gave serious thought to one, but wound up with one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWZ6EU8/

My wife and kids all wanted one after I had one for a while, so, yeah, there's that. Also what OP says - forces you to keep shit to a minimum.
