🎓 Reddit experts on xbox one headsets
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where xbox one headsets are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
Bit expensive, but the Steelseries Arctis 9x are top notch. Great sound quality, great battery life, truly true wireless for all aspects (connects to your console like a controller) and super comfy!
So yeah the "skipping" is what I and I think most people refer to as lag, the slow motion actually changes the movement speeds of your pitch and yaw (as it's put in the game, I'd call it X and Y axis) in disproportionate ways.
I didn't bother unplugging the RJ-45 last night because I was fascinated by what was happening on the Dallas server - it was just an absolute mess that, if it was even remotely common, would have everybody thinking I was playing an unfinished Alpha with missing texture and sounds and all kinds of stuff.
But yeah - there are major, major issues with sound on console. I have this headset, which isn't high-end by any means, but supports Dolby Atmos and Window Sonic:
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Stealth-Amplified-Surround-Gaming-Headset/dp/B07D3N9TRC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=turtle+beach+300&qid=1554568457&s=gateway&sr=8-3
It's...fine, and I've used nice headphones from my recording setup and other stuff for comparison. With all other games and even in training mode, the surround sound/depth works fine. I know it's technically fancy remixed 2 channel stereo because of the 3.5 jack it uses, I've taken grenades and thrown them all over teh training area then done slow 360s to confirm that I hear the explosion move from FR->FL->RL->RR.
Most people usually report that sounds don't occur, which is what I experienced last night - the enemy team's gunfire doesn't make any noise, and I'm not sure it even makes visual flashes, despite being in close quarters. What occurs for ME almost every game is super inaccurate audio placement/depth, specifically with footsteps and gunfire - it's not that they aren't happening, it's that I hear somebody coming from behind me to the left, turn around and wait behind cover, and then when they emerge they're actually coming from an entirely different way, even though the sounds consistent were playing through the wrong channel. It's like hearing somebody walking up to your doorstep and thinking you've got the jump on them, and then they bash you over the head because they were somehow on your couch the whole time.
I haven't watched it up close yet and slowed it down, but that's what I'm about to get to now, it was uploading last night and I fell asleep. Will send you link when it's on YouTube - it looks like I recorded at 720p to get 10min increments instead of 2 (thought it was 1080p), but the technical issues minus my laughing and indifference to trying are all there.
Do you think the game is fixable? Or is it going to live on band-aids until eventually people just go? I really love this game when it works but the problems are compounding and I'm not sure what they can do unless there's a double-secret bonus alpha with entirely new code.
Some people have suggested no headset, but im assuming your son has friends that play on xbox and in that case he would need one to properly interact. Also you will need to make your son his own email account, and it would be easiest to use outlook.com.
There are many privacy settings. And many tutorials online that can help, like this one https://www.windowscentral.com/parents-guide-xbox-one?amp
And for the internet, any service will work.
Edit: i forgot to suggest a headset, any $20-40 one will do just fine. Amazon has a giant variety to choose from.
https://www.amazon.com/SADES-Over-Ear-Headphones-Microphone-Computer/dp/B07FSZQ1W1/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?keywords=xbox+one+headset+sades&qid=1574647886&sr=8-9
This was the first headset i got for my xbox one, wasnt bad but was big.
This is what I bought, but I’m pretty sure I only paid $20 four years ago. Maybe had a deal Ora coupon code or something.
https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-048-041-Black/dp/B00ZJEOTYK
It’s still here almost four years later. I can see on the overlay it’s not me echoing. The mic is good and the sound quality is good.
Agreed, the official Chat Headset isn't of the best build quality, but for basic chat needs I think it gets the job done.
My biggest gripe about it is the connector design, which is awkward to grab ahold of when connecting/disconnecting from the controller. Feels like I'm going to break the damn thing, but luckily mine has survived for a couple years now.
Unfortunately, it looks like the official Microsoft one is going to be your best bet when compared to the third-party alternatives. But this one has 3.5mm if that's a must: https://www.amazon.com/POWER-CHAT-HEADSET-Xbox-One/dp/B01J36HR2A
The MDR10BRT will only pass the mic input over bluetooth. In order to get audio through the headphones, you have to make sure that the bluetooth headphones are the default audio output/playback device. The reason why the mic works over bluetooth is likely because it's the only mic input that your PC has connected.
For the record, if you try to hardwire the headphones into your PC, they will only work as headphones (there is no way for the headphones to pass the built in mic input over the 3.5mm wire). The wire with inline mic will work, but you need a specific splitter. I use this Maeline splitter for my setup (SteelSeries flux and this boom mic) and it works perfectly. Also, I highly recommend the boom mic that I referenced above. You'll get much better recording quality than those inline mics.
The Afterglow AG9 was pretty decent in sound, and the setup was a breeze. You literally just plug a USB stick into your xbox and you're good to go. However, my friends stated that I sounded like I was speaking through a tin can - so I returned them for a wired headset.
http://www.amazon.com/PDP-Afterglow-Wireless-Headset-Xbox-One/dp/B016K122XU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453525092&sr=8-3&keywords=afterglow+xbox+one
Ok. Gotcha. The problem is that you have a 360 headset, and using the stereo chat adapter.
On the 360 the wire that went from the controller to the little in-line mixer was only for chat (mic and audio). When you use the new stereo chat adapter it does its' own mixing.
Then MS removed the "play through both" option too.
So there's a few things you can do:
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-4Shot-Headphone-Blue-Xbox/dp/B00E1L78TK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1421191897&sr=8-3&keywords=polk+four+shot
My head is just too big for that headset. But sound quality is good. I got it for $60 on sale, and I just took the stereo MS chat adapter out of it since I needed it. Haven't used it since. $35 if you're interested!
Here are two other options:
http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-LVL-Wired-Headset-Xbox-One/dp/B00ZJEOTYK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1454195022&sr=8-4&keywords=xbox+one+headset
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-compatible-controller-playstation-4/dp/B00YXO5U40/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1454195022&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+one+headset
I cannot speak to the quality of them though, but cannot imagine them being anything less than the Xbox 360 headset.... I personally use the Xbox One Official Stereo Headset and it works great. During the holidays I bought a Turtle Beach EarForce Atlas for $45 as a spare that normally retails for a $100+, but haven't tried it yet.
Thanks so much for the response. I just purchased a new cable and it’s in the mail. Here’s the link:
YCS Basics Gaming Headset Chat Cable for PS4 And Xbox One Controllers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DAKWB8A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fkhTDbPHVW78Z
Also, do you know if there is a way for me to access the latest firmware files for the Gen 1 headset/base station? I was unable to find them on the Astro site like they used to be, and I’m worried the firmware file that I used to update is likely outdated (as it was stored locally on my pc for the last few years).
Thanks again!

Oops, how'd that happen lol.

It's a third party product but I reckon it would work. They certainly claim that it does.
I have Sade’s head phones only 20$ and they high quality come hearing is good and the mic is good with a hard carrying case https://www.amazon.com/Over-Ear-Noise-isolating-Headphones-Computers-Phones-Black/dp/B075F4KGTZ
I had the XO Fours and hated them due it felt like my head was being squeezed.. large head problems.. Also the XO headsets have no mic monitoring so its odd to not hear yourself talking. I picked up these last year and love them. These ones have mic monitoring and are great for larger heads plus the ear material is comfy.
Yeah.
Okay cool. I just bought these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015VP5EOK/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485117985&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=astro+a50+chat+cable&dpPl=1&dpID=41sJTd3sCYL&ref=plSrch
It's actually a 3.5 to 2.5. But I should be able just to plug it into my controller.
The Tritton Kaiken Mono seems to be marketed to work with both Xbox and Mobile devices and is only one ear. It's open back but not as open as the recon. The Plantronics RIG 100HX have a more open back design. Can't tell if they would support phone use but it has a 3.5mm jack so it looks like it might.
I️ highly recommend just the Microsoft headset. Really reasonable and pretty high quality.
This is a white one, but some stores will have black ones if you’d prefer that.
Amazon has it for $50, and black for $45
SteelSeries Arctis 9X Wireless Gaming Headset - Integrated Xbox Wireless + Bluetooth - 20+ Hour Battery Life - for Xbox One https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RJHH6Q8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q.UvDbNGZ2QYA
I bought these and I love them. Prefer them over turtle beach elite pros that I had previously.
I had to install the drivers listed as only $30 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Gaming-Headset-100HX-Range/dp/B075DK78FW. So that pretty much update the drivers too and nothing worked, so I guess it means that the APK you are trying to use.
i use these. Inline controls and great sound.

Next time delete everything starting with "ref=" and you'll have a much nicer URL to share: https://www.amazon.com/Headset-Adapter-Headphone-Converter-Controller/dp/B07XD1F8G8/
Turtle Beach has 2 models, XO4 and XO Seven. $100 USD and like $160 respectively. Polk 4shot is $160 (but apparently on sale right now for $120])
I don't know about most headsets supporting full game audio through Xbox controller, but I know this one does, and does it well: https://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-Gaming-SLYR-Xbox-One-Halo/dp/B00NY5ZNZK/ref=asc\_df\_B00NY5ZNZK/
Doesn't this mic adapter i link below allow you to do push to talk and also let you map a button to allow capture/screen shot? Atleast i could have sworn i read someone was able to do that some where once?
https://www.amazon.com/Headset-Adapter-Headphone-Converter-Controller/dp/B07XD1F8G8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=xbox+one+mic+adapter&qid=1572760345&sprefix=xbox+one+mic&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFLRVFRRFFLT0xZSjImZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5OTU3NDEyVjI3TFZIRzU5R0pUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NjY1ODMyWERINlkyTVlBVVdDJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Yes in theory it should work, but seriously just get a pair of headphones that will work, most gaming headphones will support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, and most that do come with two leads one for Mic and one for Stereo Headphones will also have an adapter that works in the box.
Failing that, if you want a cheap but good audio quality headphones, get these, they are the same as the Turtle Beach Advanced Warfare Sentinel Taskforce at a much reduced price and same build and audio quality

Hey reapergato,
There is a cable on Amazon here - https://www.amazon.com/ienza%C2%AE-Headsets-Talkback-Controller-Headset/dp/B015VP5EOK/ref=sr_1_16?keywords=a50+xbox+one+controller+cable&qid=1556743027&s=gateway&sr=8-16.
It's the correct 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable for Xbox Live chat and the reviews claim it fits and works fine on an A50 Wireless Headset.
I like the skull candy halo headphones for the price.

That one is newer and only $99. Decent reviews. Useable with PS4 and PC as well (though wired with both of those).
Polk's 4shot have very good sound stage + build and will include two separate mic's, xbox chat adapter.
Then there's A50 but over your budget.
if your using this > https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Chat-Headset-Xbox-One/dp/B01J36HR2A?th=1
you can't just plug that into a pc , it has a combined mic/headphone jack , you need the adapter if you want to plug the headset directly into the pc
You should be able to connect it to the controller though like you would normally though and then set it as the default sound device in windows , ( right click sound icon , recording devices , set that as default ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHlhIZZYUFk https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-xbox-one-controller-to-pc
but your really going to just want to buy the adapter as i'd not suggest using a controller for pc FPS games like PUBG , you will get destroyed
they work the same as the x07 , they have the new microsoft puck. they also run via optical cable.
All the new headsets work with the xbox like that.
So no, they are not "truly" wirless.. but either are the Xo4, the XO7, titanfall atlass etc...
Here is the link to the ones I have

I dont imagine them making a placeholder as february 28th, rather than the end of december. But I don't know much about these headsets.
I use these and use them on Xbox and PC.

This is one I got. I’ve read other forums and people who bought even high end MICs still had an issue with sound leaking into them.
February 28, 2014? Don't take that to the bank could be placeholder http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-4Shot-Headphone-Black-Xbox/dp/B00E1L78N6
You have to plug the controller into the mixamp with the 3.5mm to 2.5mm chat cable.

The one that comes with the Astro's makes you voice extremely low, even after updating for some reason .I had the same solution only using this cord. I don't think the one you linked will work because it's for audio only, not audio and voice.

Going to be $60 at game Stop for black Friday

The best, relatively inexpensive headset option in the $125 Turtle Beach headset. https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Stealth-Wireless-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00YXO5X4M/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1472813074&sr=1-6&keywords=turtle+beach+headsets
I also own the PDP Afterglow AG9 fully wireless headset. When we play local, fullscreen co-op I have no problems hearing my wife on the mic, but people have complained online. t's usually under $90.
https://www.amazon.com/PDP-Afterglow-Wireless-Headset-Xbox-One/dp/B016K122XU
I don't think those will register as a mic though.
What about this?
I assume just one ear is bad so you wouldn't have anything on that ear with this. Microsoft makes a similar product.
