> Currently stagnating when it comes to actual weight loss, but I'm more than making up for it in muscle gain. I need to get a scale that measures fat percentages to get actual number for progress, but needless to say, I'm gaining muscle and losing fat.

I've had good success plugging my measurements into the US Navy Body Fat Calculator, using a retractable tape measure for consistent measurements. Then I cross check my results against a body fat photo guide and it's pretty accurate.

>Having been exercising regularly for over a month now, I'm starting to see a boost in energy levels and general sense of well-being. I actually FEEL more like myself again. I feel like I'm more naturally social right now as well, with the better moods and energy levels. Also, I'm starting to understand the feeling people talk about when they are looking forward to their workout.

Awesome!

>One more goal that I have is to stop reading social media and learn to just appreciate boredom again. I feel like my wife and I always pull out our phones when a lull in the conversation occurs. It pretty much happens with everyone my age and I'd like to be able to develop more skill in idle conversation.

One thing that helped my wife and I a few years ago is a digital fast: I would come home and put my phone on the charger in the bedroom for the evening. We would eat dinner, and instead of sitting down to watch a screen after that, we put the TV in the garage for 1 month. So we forced ourselves to find other things to do besides veg in front of a screen. It GREATLY reduced our TV watching, and we watch very little TV to this day. But it was weird at first.

>Spiritual: Made some progress here this week. I actually went to Sunday school and church this past weekend while my wife worked. Introduced myself to a few people and enjoyed going. I'm usually hard pressed to work up the motivation to go when I'm by myself, but I intend to keep the habit of regular attendance going.

Excellent! The more you go, the easier it gets and the more comfortable you become around others in that kind of setting.

>She'll ask me to go get her something, usually some water, and I usually will just look at her, raise an eyebrow, and ask if her legs stopped working. She was the only daughter of a father that I could only describe as "whipped." Her mother is actually crazy and its so weird watching my in-laws just step on eggshells around her just to keep from setting her off. So I do wonder if these things that I am identifying as "s-tests" are really just my wife asking for things she feels entitled to because that's how her father acted around her mother. I still refuse to give in. I need to learn to be less blunt in my refusals though, because she does get annoyed with me about it.

This is good, you're teaching her normal behavior and retraining her patterns and habits into something healthy. As far as bluntness, you're thinking is correct here as well. 1 Peter 3:7 says, "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."

>Hoping to learn how to play golf this weekend. Curious to get some feedback on this: I will be learning from my wife. She used to play golf in high school, and actually learned how to play from a coach on the PGA tour. She was actually pretty good, and got a few scholarship offers to go play golf in college, but decided she would rather go to a larger school instead. So would it be a beta move to have your wife teach you a new skill?

I don't see it as a "beta move" to learn something fun from your wife since she has that knowledge. You could make it into a fun time for both of you, and it's a great opportunity for flirting and being suggestive. Tell her to wear a sexy outfit to the course, and have fun with it. Of course there will opportunities to tell her to "grab your balls" as well :) Just don't fall into the caddy role - if you think there's a chance that may happen, plan ahead and just pay for a couple of caddies before heading out. You don't want to be carrying her bag around the course while she's teaching you - THAT would be bad beta imo.

Hey girly!

I definitely use OPKs, but only really found them useful after I had an idea of when I ovulated, which I figured out through charting. *A note on charting: The first months are very hellish. You'll drive yourself nuts if you try to analyze it all, so I'd recommend starting it when life is kind of slow!

I use these OPKs because they came in a combo pack with HPTs and they've been really reliable. I use this thermometer because I like that it beeps when it's getting the temp (note on BBTs, they take about one full minute to get an accurate temp, so you do have to be a bit patient with them!) and it also has a backlight. I temp vaginally because I want to get the most accurate readings, so the beeping does not bother my husband since it's all under the sheets. Definitely start temping CD1 of your period and make sure you're getting the temp right when you wake up (I have an alarm set for 6:30am because I will never be awake on my own then!)

I wouldn't worry about supplements until you have at least three months of charting under your belt. No need to throw everything off...just see how your body works naturally.

This book is the fertility bible to most women and has a lot of helpful information. For charting, FertilityFriend is a great place to start and also has a handy dandy mobile app. You can also poke around in /r/TFABChartStalkers for charting help once you start.

If you can hold out...try to not test before your period is due. Trust me, squinters on pregnancy tests are NIGHTMARES to cope with, totally not worth it, and are avoidable. I wish someone had told me this when I started TTC because it would have saved me a lot of heartache.

I hope you find the support you need here and please feel free to PM me with any questions that you come up with! I've been around the block a few times and can definitely help out :)

u/pretzel · 5 pointsr/startbodyweight

Great idea. Would do one myself if I had the time!

Were I to do it for myself, I'd:

  • Have all the exercises in the list, but also allow for users to add in their own exercises (I have problems going from pushups to elbows-in/diamonds so am doing an extra "close" push up, to help get me there)
  • Allow me to level up by 1 rep (or 2 reps on pushup/dips!) or allow me to repeat if I'm cheating too much
  • When I do my workout I always have a stopwatch on besides me so I know how long a gap I am having between sets. It would be great if I could be in workout mode and it tells me what I should be doing in my next set, and then how long I should be waiting for. I guess I'd want to tap that I'm starting and that I've finished. Might be nice if it how long an exercise took so if everything was in sync I could do it completely hands free (at the moment when I am done I try to remember when I finished so I can wait a minute, but sometimes after a particularly hard set I forget!)
  • Other ideas with workout mode:
    • I want to be able to override the gap between sets (Some are ok for a minute, sometimes I need a bit longer...)
    • I want to be able to handle exercises that need to be done on each leg (eg: single leg squats, I do my left side then my right side or vice versa - same with side planks)
    • Need to be able to pause if I get a phone call.
    • Handle my warmups for me as well!
    • Allow me to input my weight/BMI/water %/fat % (I have one of these)
    • Allow me to split up my routine (I do push [squat/pike pushups/pushups/dips] one day/pull [the rest] the next so I can workout everyday for 30 minutes instead of everyother day)
    • Sometimes I skip a stretch or do it shorter so let me move on (also note some stretches are both arms, some are single arm)

Good luck and any other qns or if you want me to play with it latter on feel free to PM me!

I wish I had gotten my scale sooner... for the whole IF journey.

The data is from the Feelfit app (ios) that came with my Abyon scale... link to scale: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJY6GTJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are a lot of sub $30 scales on Amazon right now.

Here is a better rated model that I have seen recommend on this sub.

Link to Renpho scale:

https://www.amazon.com/RENPHO-Bluetooth-Body-Fat-Scale/dp/B01N1UX8RW/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3SZXYAHOZ5XGC&keywords=renpho+bluetooth+smart+scale&qid=1552506618&s=hpc&sprefix=ren%2Chpc%2C128&sr=1-3

Disclaimer... I'm not sure if I would trust the measurements coming from these scales implicitly, but as a point of reference the information is good to have.

I love having the data at hand for future reference, sharing and motivation.

Cheers!

u/cellblock2187 · 1 pointr/SleepApnea

I am 3.5 weeks into cpap therapy, and it really got a LOT easier on me after a couple of weeks.

Sleep apnea is diagnosed with an untreated AHI of greater than 5.

What kind of treatment are you getting for your anxiety? Over the counter stuff like GABA or L-theanine? Pharmaceuticals? Therapy? Be sure you're exploring all your health options- I wish I had done so years earlier than I did, because it improved every aspect of my life. Interestingly, my hypochondria was significantly improved when I treated my anxiety.

You are clearly interested in investing in your health. I have been really happy with the logging oximeter I bought. Based on recommendations here and the cpap/apnea boards, I got one of these: www.amazon.com/Contec-Wrist-worn-Oximeter-Software-Download/dp/B00LN4LCMC, and it has been really interesting. My partner wore it for a night, and we learned that the occasional snoring was not indicative of a breathing problem- blood oxygen never went below 90%. Mine is a whole other story! My sibling used it a couple of times during a visit, and is now headed to a sleep doctor to get checked out. It can't give you anything like an AHI, but you could easily compare your blood oxygen levels with and without the cpap to see what it is doing for you.

Good luck to you! Work on that leak. Raise your pressures a little at a tiem if you feel like you're suffocating. I started at 5-10, and now I'm far more comfortable at 7-11.

u/terminal_veracity · 3 pointsr/CPAP

To answer your question directly: get an oximeter that records a full night of data, USB to transfer to a computer, and ideally integration with OSCAR (sleep apnea tracking software) for later use with a CPAP. The cheapest option, $40, will need to be taped onto your finger and it's surprisingly uncomfortable to wear all night:

https://www.amazon.com/CMS50D-Plus-24-hour-Uploaded-Computers/dp/B07KWY9KZQ

At $84, here's a much more comfortable version:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LN4LCMC/

But, the real question is "do you have sleep apnea"? Obviously an overnight sleep study (polysomnograph) is best and the at-home versions are pretty good too (sometimes as low as $200). With an oximeter, you're not going to get anything conclusive - at best you might find some denaturations that might suggest sleep apnea. Without something to monitor breathing, the picture is incomplete.

You should also run through a few self-assessment tests might help get a sense of the probability of sleep apnea and the severity of symptoms:

For sleep apnea. This is also what most primary care docs will use:

http://www.stopbang.ca/osa/screening.php

These are also useful:

http://www.sleepapnea.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/berlin-questionnaire.pdf

For daytime sleepiness, try this:

u/motleybandit · 3 pointsr/loseit

Wait, so how does this work? It weeds out the fake positive reviews to show you the number of real positive/negative reviews? That's interesting. The scale I have is apparently an F, but I love it. It always seems consistent with what my doctor weighs me as, so I'm fine with how accurate it is.

Although now that I look through the reviews, I do see a number of people saying that when they step on it three or four times, they get a number of different readings. They also say the WiFi connection is wonky. I've never had either of these issues. This is the scale I have if anyone is curious.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing! :)

u/OpenFusili · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yeah, it's pretty cool. This is the one I went for. I'm sure there are better ones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728K4371/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_-FFxCb64PJT1E

I play WoW with a few local friends. I also play EVE Online. Borderlands and Fallout and the like.

Activities- watching Doctor Who, relaxing, surfing reddit.
Movie- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Book- Robert Frost Poetry
I'm 24, live in the middle of redneck country, enjoy beach trips and hanging out with friends. I love to read online articles about all different sorts of stuff. I'm in school for nursing, working on my RN. I'm actively trying to have a baby, not having much luck tho. That's all I can think of! Oh and who doesn't love a good Potato every now and then?
A thermometer to help with conception!

u/8-BitBaker · 1 pointr/loseit

You can get a food scale and a real scale online fairly cheap, so hopefully you won't have to save up too long! Amazon has them for as low as $8 with good reviews as well as actual scales for around $18. If you buy a 'slightly' more expensive scale, that would push the order to $25, which would qualify it for free shipping.

I hope this helps (and might help with saving)! A food scale is definitely the most important thing, but having an accurate scale can be really good for morale as well. I definitely think this journey would be much harder if I couldn't weigh myself at least once a week.

u/natalienaught · 4 pointsr/MtF

I research this stuff, and can tell you that BMI has nothing to do with aesthetics, or even metabolic health. It's an epidemiological tool used to estimate health at the population level. Doctors use population-based cutoffs as a pragmatic means of categorization, but those have lots of issues in themselves, particularly as applied to populations outside the western first-world.

There's a lot of public confusion, but individuals shouldn't pay much attention to their BMI, aside from avoiding the extremes, and should instead focus on body composition, as in % body fat and % lean mass. Here's a free article discussing this issue from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Body composition can be easily monitored these days with cheap BIA devices (one example). These generally lack accuracy (i.e., the number it tells you is wrong), but are fairly precise, which means they give you a similarly wrong number every time, so you can accurately monitor changes (as long as you are about the same hydration status).

Goals are still a matter for some debate, but here are general population values for men and women.

Anyway, lots of info, but I hope it helps, and good luck!

u/Sp00kyW0mb · 2 pointsr/TryingForABaby

To answer question # 1, follow the instructions from this link. Make sure to change your username and URL so that you’re easy to spot on a friends list!

2. I’m assuming that you mean this one? Backlit ones are very useful.

3. Were you recently on hormonal birth control? I think once you start temping the random EWCM will be easier to interpret. It comes when estrogen (secreted by developing follicles) levels rise and can also spike again midway through your luteal phase.

u/Just_Sterling · 2 pointsr/keto

I got this one and love it. It connects with MFP and has an app that's pretty nice and easy to use.

Weight Gurus Wifi Smart Connected Body Fat Bathroom Scale w/ Backlit LCD, ITO Conductive Surface Technology, Accurate Precision Health Alerts, Measure https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IFYLARO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_E1yBzdWrwsEew

u/siriuslyserious · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

It's both, you can set up an account on the website and log into it on the app, and vice versa. I use this thermometer. But you just need to find a Basal Body Temperature thermometer that goes to the tenth of a degree (not a regular thermometer to check for a fever). To really understand how it all works I HIGHLY recommend this book. If you have further questions I'm sure you can make a post here or feel free to PM me, I'm happy to help!

u/guppytree · 1 pointr/birthcontrol

FAM looks really awesome to me. Do you have any books you recommend to get me started? and do you recommend investing in a daysy or is a cheaper basal thermometer like this good?

u/eyeliketurtles · 2 pointsr/loseit

It looks like you aren't getting very many answers- I just went on amazon and looked at the options that are deliverable to my country, and picked the one with the best reviews that fit my budget. You can input your height and it automatically calculates your BMI for you, too! It's this one! 4 stars and 3,000+ reviews. I've had it for about 6 months now and I'm 100% happy with it.

u/mutantj0hn · 1 pointr/waiting_to_try

Oh snap!!! That's awesome. I have this one. I am super curious to hear how you like the Wink!

u/Joshua_Naterman · 1 pointr/leangains

You're welcome.

If you want to track BF at home, I'd use the one-site clicker-style plastic calipers. https://www.amazon.com/Care-Touch-Skinfold-Caliper-Included/dp/B01BMY8ONM is a great example, but you can pay 5 bucks more for the name brand Accu-Measure if you want.

They have a slider that stays in place once you let go after the click, so you don't need to worry about trying to read while you measure: Just use equal finger pressure on all the finger grooves and you'll get the right measurement. These are basically as accurate and precise as more expensive ones, and you only need to use one measuring site.

Just watch Youtube videos on how to measure a skinfold at the Suprailiac site.

They aren't quite as precise as my Harpenden calipers, which are $350 dollars, but I do this professionally and clients want to know they're getting measured with the exact same caliper that was used for all the research that made the data tables.

They are accurate to within 0.2mm, which is a great selling point but honestly from a practical perspective it doesn't matter.

What matters is measuring the same way, at the same spot, with the same calipers, done by the same person every time.

That's what lets you see consistent trends, and that is how you should use BF measurements.

u/avanti8 · 1 pointr/keto

I have a Withings digital WiFi scale, and I like it. I'll tell you, though, that the body fat measurements on this thing are right out. I mean, even by normal standards for bioelectrical impedance measurements. However, they do provide a good indication of the trend of fat loss, fat gain, so they're not completely useless.

I particularly like that it comes with little "feet" for the carpet. It's very consistent, and it syncs to the online dashboard and phone app via WiFi so my measurements are automatically imported into MFP. And a really nice feature is that if it detects you're not centered over the scale, it will flash arrows at you to tell you to lean more toward the center. I think this contributes to its accuracy.

Only downside: it's a bit pricey.

Edit: It appears the max weight is 396 pounds (well within your range) and it has been supplanted by the much less dear Nokia scales: https://www.amazon.com/Withings-WiFi-Body-Scale-Black/dp/B002JE2PSA

u/briennek · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

We purchased a Withings smart scale and it fueled me to lose 40lbs in 2016! Weighing myself daily and seeing the slow progression downward allowed me to visualize my slow weight loss. It worked! Their app is wonderful, super easy to use, and let's you track temperature and C02 emissions. We got it on sale for $99 and it was worth every penny. I got the Withings Active Pop watch to track sleep and steps about 6 months ago. Paired with the scale, this system works for me.

[Withings Scale in Amazon](Withings Body - Body Composition Wi-Fi Scale, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F3LJ2RW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SYUAybNF8WDS1)

u/stussll · 2 pointsr/caregivers

Woah. This is the first I've heard of the "drop in" feature...super neat.

As for Google Sheets, auto-formatting is a wonderful idea. And in case you were curious, you can set a shortcut on iOS :)

For now, we've been using Apple's Notes app for sodium and fluid tracking. It's worked well in so far as he's comfortable with the app and it does collaboration relatively well. IMO, there are obvious shortcomings, but as I'm coming to learn, whatever helps keep up his habit works for me.

We did however order a wifi scale , so we'll see how that works. Thank you for your thought :)

I've had this scale for a little over a year now and I love it. I've never had a problem with inaccurate readings. I even moved with it and it still worked great. Also relatively affordable. My favorite part about it is that it give you within a .1 reading.

Invest in a GOOD SCALE. It was the best money I ever spent (as far as weight-loss goes). You might have a different weight to start with, but then you'll be able to trust every lb after that!

I like my Tanita.

u/Komfortable · 1 pointr/intermittentfasting

I have this one and I’m as happy with it as one could be, considering it’s just a scale. It’s got features, it functions, and it doesn’t move from the floor, which coincidentally are exactly the three features I wanted in a scale.

Joking aside, I do actually like it. It is easy to use and it is simple (I mean that in the good way).

u/william_moran · 1 pointr/Fitness

I agree. Calipers are pretty accurate.

However, I bought that particular one as my first caliper, it works fine but the quality isn't so good and it only lasted a few months before the brittle plastic snapped. Advantage is that its super-cheap.

If you can afford a little more $, I've had one of these for about two years now and it still works perfectly:

I love my WeightGurus scale- $39 so very much. It tracks weight, body fat, bone density, and hydration using their free smartphone app. It allows for up to 8 individual users (up to 400lbs) and it determines which user you are automatically. It also has a weightless mode which will only show whether you gained or lost weight rather than your weight. Plus it has a 5 year warranty!

EDIT: Added the price to save the click if it is not for you :D

u/serume · 2 pointsr/keto

I bought Withings WiFi-scale and really like it. It tells me when it's not on a level surface, it sends all the info straight to my app (and the website, but I don't use it) and it seems trustworthy.

Ofc, it's a bit on the pricey scale (ha.ha.) and I don't trust the fat percentage at all, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.

u/PlatosApprentice · 2 pointsr/weightroom

W1D2: Bench Day of BBB went pretty well. It was easier than yesterday, which I'm assuming is just attributed by being more conservative in my TM. It was a good bench session, overall. I was really nailing the timing of my 5s and then my 10s and making sure to utilize leg drive. Ran a little killer circuit/superset of Incline Bench/Lat Pulldowns/Tricep Extensions/and BB Rows. It felt really awesome.

For those who utilize a scale for tracking weight at home, what do you recommend? this is one i've had in my Amazon cart a while but i've been waiting to see which one I like.

u/msbeaver83 · 3 pointsr/fatlogic

This has good reviews and a great price but would love input from you folk. So does anyone have this scale and what do you think about it?

u/RedHeadInTx · 1 pointr/orangetheory

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. It has an app on my phone and automatically syncs my weigh ins and has graphs for bmi, water weight, muscle mass. I weigh every day, but don't look at the scale. I check the app once a week to see my progress, so I don't get that day to day obsession. I have a profile set up, my bf had a profile set up. When he steps on it, it syncs to his app only, when I step on it syncs to my app only. Bc we are so different in weight, it automatically recognises who is in the scale. If I can figure out how to get a picture on redit, I'll show you a screenshot of the app if you want.

u/jds2001 · 1 pointr/SleepApnea

Thanks! Got the preliminary results of the sleep study, no AHI or anything on there. They did call and tell me that I'd get the final results this week or early next week once they finish scoring it. This would be ~3 weeks after the study, does it normally take that long? Anyhow, the preliminary report is short and sweet:

> Sleep: Adequate sleep was recorded. He slept in the supine and bilateral decubitus positions.

> Respiration: Some sustained flow limitation was observed, interrupted by occasional respiratory effort related events. Events were most notable during the combination of supine REM.

> Lowest O2 saturation: 81 %.

EDIT: As far as keeping the oximeter on, it just stays there??? I was a little surprised myself, but it hasn't come off in 3 nights of use for me. I must sleep in a common single position :)

Though I bought this without much research, but the CMS50F might be better for you - it looks similar to the oximeter they used in the sleep study, and what they had me do is tape down past the end of the part that goes on the finger - i.e. the small part where the cable comes out - with Coban (self-adhesive tape)

u/buttmogul · 1 pointr/xxfitness

I have this, which is not expensive at all, and I love it. I'm not sure how much I trust the actual bf or water % but it's great for tracking trends.

u/davedawg2000 · 1 pointr/loseit

Pretty much all home-based fat-monitoring scales are going to have a margin of error around +/- 5%. They're really only useful for trending purposes.

For example, I have this Omron model at home. I took it into the doctor's office with me and used it immediately before getting a body composition analysis done with a BodPod, which is typically regarded as the second most-accurate test you can do (after the prohibitively expensive DEXA scan). My scale read 143.6 pounds and 15.6% BF, whereas my BodPod results yielded 144.3 pounds and 9.2% BF.

Regardless, just be more focused on trends, rather than individual data points -- they're more statistically relevant :)

30 bucks and it blue tooth connects to your phone... so you can literally temp and go back to sleep. I could do it with my eye mask on and then later in the day can look at the app to evaluate the data... along with OPKs.

By doing both temping and OPKs I was able to determine that I have a short luteal phase (technically called luteal phase defect) After experiencing chemical pregnancies my OB was able to agree with my data and put me on progesterone after I would ovulate .... first cycle on the progesterone and I’m currently 9 months pregnant.

I highly recommend adding in temping :)

  1. I have been very happy with this model for $20.
  2. It takes time.
The longer you stick with this the more you will respect yourself. You just need to accept the fact that the past can no longer be affected- you've done what you've done and there's no going back. But you can affect your future and by doing so again and again your self esteem will gradually improve.
    Measure yourself!
Often we cannot see changes in the mirror but a tape measurer will not lie and that can force you to understand that you are doing it and for that you can be very proud.

I'm not a fan of the biggest loser scale; mine only lasted 6 or 7 months before it started to become inaccurate.

What I use now is this Omron scale, although it only goes up to 330: Amazon Link

Great scale; I wear a size 16/17 shoe and my feet fit on it - the weighings are usually pretty consistent. Hope this helps!

u/dmmagic · 2 pointsr/loseit

It's a Garmin Index Smart Scale. I like how fast and accurate it is--it's way better than other electronic scales I have tried--but I also recognize that it is more expensive than the competition while providing fewer features. I often see the Withings scale be recommended as an alternative.

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3 so I like that the scale is Garmin too; it puts all my data into one place.

u/akadaisy · 2 pointsr/xxketo

Bought this one on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IFYLARO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was packaged wonderfully and setup was a breeze; the only "hurdle" is that each user has to setup an app account if they want to track anything. Since it's wifi the data will sync from the scale to my phone no matter where the phone is, and without having the app open. Data can sync from the Weight Gurus app to MFP, Fitbit, and Google Fit which is handy. More importantly, if you log in to the website for the app you can download a CSV of your entries.

u/Babbins · 1 pointr/TryingForABaby

I got this one because it was the "best seller" on Amazon and was only $11.

It works fine, but it only goes to one decimal place if that matters to you, and even though it beeps to let you know when it's done taking your temperature, I temp vaginally so it can be really hard to hear under the blankets/my pajamas. Otherwise I've had no issues. It's backlit and saves your last temp in case you forgot to jot it down, and that's good enough for me right now.

If you want something fancier though there are probably better options.

u/Paulingtons · 4 pointsr/loseit

Something like this will do the job just fine. I personally use a Withings scale that is an investment but the app makes it worth it in my opinion.

Cool site! I seem to fluctate between 17-22% BF. Measurements come from a Omron HBF-400 scale.

BF measurements can vary wildly between different products. The best advice is to pick one method and stick with it. The individual numbers by themselves don't really matter - you are comparing the numbers against themselves over time to identify trends. (If it wasn't obvious my day job involves data analyst stuff. :-P)

u/_karathrace · 2 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I have this one but I know I didn't pay that much for it, and I'd probably go for this one if I were in the market right now.

I've heard you can temp either orally or vaginally, but it's important to be consistent, since your temps will be slightly higher orally. I've always done orally.

edit: both of the ones I linked store the most recent temp. I don't know if any exist that store more than that, though. It'd be nice to have one that could connect to a phone app or something. Business idea, anybody?

u/humbled · 2 pointsr/keto

Wow, that is disconcerting. Obesity is a disease of many causes, and keto mostly addresses the metabolic/dietary cause of excess glucose & insulin. Ever thought about getting your thyroid levels checked? You may want to consider getting a BIA device; that way if you are losing fat and gaining muscle, you may have a better chance of noticing it and keeping up with your plan.

Some more in-depth exploration of the science of obesity may be in order. This video is long, but you may find it highly interesting. Pay attention to the part about caloric intake, delta E, compensatory behavior, and so forth. This is the main reason I don't believe in calorie restriction.

I wanted to purchase a scale that measures body fat percentage but most of them said not to use them if you have metal implants and I worried about my total hip and using them.

Thanks again

Honestly not sure. This is the scale I have

Seems pretty legit but you could be right

I use the Nokia Body+ scale! I like it so far, especially syncing it to the app on my phone.

Here is the scale if anyone is interested.

This is the scale you want

I have one of these and it works great. My trainer has an $11,000 version that it closely matches. His does a lot more, but for this price it’ll tell you fat content.

u/IDoMindTheDudeMinds · 3 pointsr/loseit

I have this one. Just make sure it's on level floor and you always weight yourself in the same spot, in the morning after your morning wee. Make sure the floor is level where you place it...or you might throw yourself back into bed and bawl. Not that I've done that or anything.

u/Random_Fox · 1 pointr/keto

fair enough, just figured i'd mention in case.

This is the one I got, seems consistent after about 5 months of use. If using the phone tracking portion make sure to make an account otherwise it'll lose all your data at some point.

I bought this one and it's working well as far as I can tell. I've tested it with 10 lb weights and it's always been accurate, and I can step on the scale three times in a row and get the same weight.

I got this withings scale that I am a big fan of. I really like the auto weight sync. Even though it isn't a big deal to enter it yourself, in the morning when I weigh myself I don't want to have to worry about anything more than I have to.

I got these scales from amazon that tell you your BMI, BMR, Water Weight & Body fat:

I recently got this one. It does the job and costs much less than the comparable ones I found at Target (even the one I bought a few years ago--fuck that thing).

u/Dragon_Slayer_Hunter · 1 pointr/loseit

I have a Withings body scale and it connects to both Libra and MFP. It is a bit on the expensive side, though (but there might be cheaper Withings scales that can sync, not sure).

u/Zahanna6 · 1 pointr/xxfitness

I use one of these scales, measuring body fat % every day. It may not be accurate but it's precise and consistent which is enough for me. It's also quite cheap compared to the Aria / Withings ones etc.

Digital. My scale has never given me a different reading on the same weigh in, ever! Regardless of placement. This one.

If you were truly eating 1000 calories a day and working out, you would lose weight rapidly. Either you're underestimating the calories you're actually eating due to not using a food scale/knowing the exact nutritional content of food, or you didn't stay on the diet long enough to notice the effects. There's no tricks or gimmicks if weight loss is your goal, eat 1700~ calories a day and log it all for 2+ months with daily weigh ins, and the results will be there.

I would suggest purchasing a Wi-fi scale (https://www.amazon.com/GreaterGoods-Conductive-Technology-Measurements-Monitoring/dp/B01IFYLARO) and stepping on it at least once a day. The good thing about the Wi-fi scale is you don't have to look at the number on the scale if you think that may demotivate you, you could just step on it, listen for the beep to confirm its logged your weight, and walk away. It tracks all you weigh ins automatically, doesn't require you finnicking around with your phone's bluetooth like other scales, and has a web interface so you can access all your data whenever you want.

I would also caution you against comparing your scale weigh-ins on a daily/weekly basis. Water, diet and everything else will cause your weight to fluctuate 6lbs in both directions day-to-day, so you won't have any hard evidence you're actually losing weight until probably 3+ weeks in and you have enough data points to see the overall trend of your weigh-ins.

Google Sheets, for tracking I used an app called Weight Guru's which syncs with my bathroom scale. The graph in the app isn't as pretty, but it can export the data, so I threw it into Sheets and made the graph in there.

u/WorkLiftSleepRepeat · 1 pointr/Fitness

I've got one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Salter-Analyser-Bathroom-Measure-Percentage/dp/B003X3A3EY

I only use it for the body weight, as the body fat measurements are never accurate with electronic readings, and I don't care about the other information. Your body weight will change daily, and some days your body will have increased in weight, even at a caloric deficit. That's just how it works, but the scales should give the same readings if you step on and off.

It costs $18 (not shilling) to put this by your bed, and weight yourself when you wake up and go to bed.

Write the data in a book, input once a week. That's 20 seconds extra out of your day. That's over complicating it? That's nothing.

EDIT: I'm glad your method works for you. But having more incremental data is substantially more beneficial, and I strongly thing that saying im overcomplicating it is kinda crap. The reason for the extra data is because this subreddit is basically a place the [majority] of the userbase come s to complain about how much they eat and they don't gain weight.

I'm currently looking at this Innotech scale: https://www.amazon.com/Innotech-Digital-Bathroom-Scale-Backlit/product-reviews/B01MFBUSEB/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_show_all_btm?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=avp_only_reviews&sortBy=recent

It has 670 reviews, of which 95% are 4 or 5 stars (90% at 5 stars). It seems that the people who have problems are taken care of by customer service. The only real trouble I see with it is someone mentioned that if you step on it over and over again, it won't show a weight change if your weight has changed less than 3/4 of a pound. While to some extent I could see that being nice for my mental health, I also see myself being skeptical of it.

I have mixed feelings about Eat Smart scales, which are usually under $20. Their kitchen scale has been fine but this isn't the first time I've had problems with their bathroom scale. A few months into owning it, it had this problem. I called customer service, we troubleshooted it, it was broken and they sent me a new one. This was several years (3+) ago and it's been good until now. I'm halfway considering buying another because $20 for 3 or more years isn't bad, IMO.

u/amandalibre · 1 pointr/loseit

I had one that was giving me a different result every time I stepped on the scale. I bought this one on a whim after getting tired of reading contradicting Amazon reviews and it's surpassed my wildest expectations.

No trouble at all,
The app comes with the scale I purchased, here is a link to the exact scale,

You can get a home pulseox and wear it at night, and then upload your data into Sleepyhead. If you make sure the clock on the CPAP and the recording pulseox are in sync, then you can line the data up. This one is the one I got:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LN4LCMC

Get your T checked as sleep apnea can fuck up your hormones. Sometimes they recover with CPAP treatment and sometimes they don't and you need to start testosterone supplementation.

I also use the Weight Guru's scale.

You can even set it up so it tells you how many lbs' you lost instead of your actual weight.

Alcohol wipes

Just put it in

No, though I only started temping on CD5 of each cycle because by then I have a light flow. It's a personal preference if you want to temp through your period or not.

Yes. The thermometer I have beeps while it's taking your temp and then it beeps 4 times when it's done.

If it's a BBT thermometer, you can use it vaginally.

On one of my cycles, I switched mid cycle to vaginal temping (right before I O'd too). All I did was make daily notes that it was a vaginal temp.

Remember, the individual data isn't really important. It's your chart as a whole. You may find that your temps are a lot more consistent with vaginal temping as less factors affect vaginal temps vs oral temps.

This is what I use.

This is a similar version.

Few explanations combined maybe:

(1) You sweat in the shower. You breath out a bit of water. This is probably the biggest difference. Also, you are a bigger guy, so you likely sweat more than others. Was it a long shower (>10 minutes)? That would give you more time to sweat off more water.

(2) Scale affected by temp, humidity, slight movement between calibrations could result in variation.

(3) You shaved or brushed your teeth in the shower ... spit out water and removed hair maybe worth a few oz.

(4) You cleaned off dead skin cells and other stuff ... a couple oz?

(5) Your scale may vary your weight based on how you stand on it ... too much weight in the heel may be recoded lower (or higher) than evenly divided weight. You could experiment.

I've had very consistent results with the Omron HBF-400 (in terms of weight, the body fat % check is less accurate though it is also consistent), but it has a 330 lbs limit.

u/digifork · 3 pointsr/Catholicism

> Sorry if this is a mundane question but the sub for NFP barely has any people. I am seriously confused and overwhelmed by all the options for thermometers.

We use this one. Make sure you buy two. Mark one as the base and the other with the offset. For example, If the base reads 98.6 and the other reads 98.8, mark the other as being +0.2 so if the first one gets lost or stops working, you can continue to measure with the second one and correct to match what the other would read.

> I am thinking of sympto-thermal method and it requires measuring temperature (preferably in the vagina) and I don't know which thermo to get.

I don't know anyone who does that. Internal temperature is internal temperature. We always take temperature orally.

Vent 1: biking to/from work is 20 miles (round trip) and i've been trying to go to the gym for HIIT/lifting on top of it, but i'm so. freakin. tired. I'm alternating days right now to try and work up to just doing the damn thing, but I'm so tired whines

Vent 2: I got a new scale and got rid of my old one that was a million years old. The new one tells me i'm literally 5-7 lbs heavier than my old one and it's discouraging af.
