Congrats on the news!! I'm also a FTM at 16 weeks, so sharing from my perspective of feeling like I STILL know so little, even as little one grows.

  1. Waiting for the 8 week appointment feels like a long haul, but it'll go by quickly. It is possible to have a miscarriage at any point in your pregnancy, but the most likely time is in the 1st trimester (up to week 13), and then your chances drop to less than 5% or so. So to answer your question, yes you could potentially miscarry before your appointment, as well as after. I've heard that you'll have bleeding and/or cramping during a miscarriage. If you experience either of these and are uncertain, call your OB's office and let them know what's going on. As tempting as it is, I recommend staying off Google for any weird feelings in your body. I had some pain that felt like period cramps and my hips ached for a few weeks, but I had to remind myself that my body was literally stretching and pushing itself to prep for baby. I rested a lot during the first several weeks and used a heating pad to alleviate some of the pain.
  2. Some women request pat downs at the airport as opposed to the x-ray screening. I went through the scanner when I traveled weeks 6-7 and was comfortable doing so. Depending on how long your flight is, if you'll be in the car a long time, etc., MAKE SURE TO TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS! Get up, walk around, stretch your legs. Pregnant women are more susceptible to blood clots, so take extra caution and be prepared. You can also use compression socks. Other tips just include stay hydrated and rest if you are feeling tired. Traveling was hard on me during those weeks because I had just gotten morning sickness before I left, which left me feeling so sickly and tired all the time. I used sea bands and they were a lifesaver for how much I was in the car. Baby did just fine! (I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076MSCX16/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
  3. Nausea hit me middle of week 5 and lasted through week 13. Never vomited, but sometimes I wish I had (hoping it would make me feel better). I kept saltine crackers on me for when I felt queasy. The sea bands also helped once I had them - basically wore them from the time I drove to work (around 7:30) to before I took my evening shower and went to bed. Not sure if you're supposed to wear them for 12 hours, but I honestly couldn't function without them. The key for me was to continually eat small (non-offensive) snacks throughout the day, and eat as soon as I woke up. Big meals made me feel yucky, not eating for long stretches of time made me feel yucky, and sometimes I just felt yucky no matter what I tried. At night, I used a diffuser with mint essential oil, which is supposed to help with nausea. I really enjoyed having that on every night until the nausea slowly eased up later in the 1st trimester.
    1. As for your question about it being something you could hide, there were some days I didn't feel I hid it well from coworkers. I would just tell them I wasn't feeling well, wasn't sure if it was a stomach bug, felt under the weather, etc. My husband obviously knew so I can't speak to someone I live with not knowing. I didn't share with anyone until I felt comfortable after week 8 when we saw baby for the first time.
  4. My general advice is to trust your body. Rest when you need to. Worry less and focus on loving your baby even more. I started a journal after I found out I was pregnant (week 5), and I've enjoyed writing down any weird symptoms, cravings, results from OB checkups, general mood, aspirations for baby, potential baby names, etc. I also joined a prenatal yoga class, which has been great to keep me active (at least once a week) in a way that's beneficial to my body and my baby.

Sending you lots of hugs and congrats for your sweet baby. Enjoy every single moment of pregnancy :)

Yay ultrasound! Boo nausea! I'm sorry you feel so sick. :( Sending all of my good, anti-nausea vibes. I've shared these a few times (because someone awesome recommended them to me<3), but I really like these preggie pops. They help my nausea a lot, even if it is only brief relief.

Feel better and let us know how the ultrasound goes! :)

In my experience, the higher the carbs the better. I've been on Latuda for years now. Pro tip - wait 20 minutes after eating and you will most likely not get nauseated at all. Thats the sweet spot I've found. Here are a few of my go-to snacks for it:

Crackers with pepperoni slices and maybe some cheese

Oatmeal - I can guarantee you won't be able to eat 350 cal of oatmeal. It fills me up so fast. Eat till you feel slightly full and that should do the trick

PBJ

I've honestly noticed that it doesn't matter how many calories you eat, it really just depends on how filling the food you are eating is. You can eat a candy bar that probably has 350 calories, but I can guarantee you will still be nauseated. You would be better off eating oatmeal till you're full which would probably end up at 200 calories instead. It's really taken trial and error for me but I have found that food with carbs work better than anything.

It is super annoying when youre not hungry and its going on midnight and you have to take your meds. But you should really be consistent and take them every day or they won't work properly (so at that point what is the point of being on them)

. For the nausea that still sometimes happens, Nauzene helps a lot. I was taking dramamine but it was so expensive. Or you could go the route with getting something prescribed but I've heard that its bad for your stomach to take things like Phenergan every day.

Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps!

Morning sickness is the fucking worst! I spent the first trimester of my first pregnancy puking over damn near everything (took me years to be able to be in the same room as teriyaki sauce again.) Preggie Pops didn't exist back then to help me (or no one knew about them) but they really helped my sister, Amazon sells them.

Now onto the MIL in the wild... I've been wondering for years what has to break in a person's brain to make them think acting like that (in public especially) is okay. My MIL often has similar fits in public for all to see, my theory is that yes she believes that if she makes a scene like that someone will take her side and see her as the victim she truly is. I'm sure this MIL did give her kids legos at 3, she also didn't put them in car seats, let them sleep on their stomach as newborns, and probably bought them lawn darts (and other dangerous toys that are no longer sold or were seriously updated for safety reasons). Just because it happened in the past, doesn't mean we keep doing it. It's not a judgment on past mothering, sane people understand that.

Next year the DIL in the story should return the gifts without her lovely MIL. Just say thank you, stick them to the side, and return them on your own.

When I first started I could play for 20 mins, get sick, take a break for 20 mins, repeat. After my 2nd break I did not feel sick again for the next several hours that I played.

These pills also help, pop one before you start playing.

Had a guy on my floor in college like that, would come over and steal food , particularly food from me. As I expressed to him, this was ....not in his best interest, so one day I made a tasty mango-salsa - label it "just for markth_wi" ,and laced it with some ipecac , and enjoy - Nobody on our floor had that, particular problem again.

Stop off at a pharmacy or herbal store and get gel caps of powdered Ginger. That might be all that's needed.

They're an old-school herbal stomach remedy that works surprisingly well. Even when you don't feel any discomfort whatsoever, they can often make you feel eyebrow-raisingly better. Kind of a, "Well I'll be...." :)

Sea sick meds almost always have an unpleasing effect. They're better than rowlphing to leeward, but, meh, still not fun. :/

That might be overkill for 5,280'. I did have some success with this stuff and drinking a lot of water when I moved here from sea level and started snowboarding at 12,000' though.

Eme bags Amazon.com

THESE. In your purse. In your car. In the bathroom. Next to the bed. You’ll never have to choose your most emergent bodily function! Haha. They’ve been a real life-saver for me this pregnancy.

These things are a God send when you can't even look at a food commercial on television without gagging. I just discovered these over the past year and they are kind of costly but man so they help. They relieve the nausea so I can drink water or even eat.

u/ElizabethHopeParker · 1 pointr/cosplay

Indeed, this is very well done. Are you going to cosplay her straight (I mean act like she did in the movie)?

If you want to do something a little different, you could sing my SO's version of her song:

"Just a spoonful of Ipecac

Makes the medicine come up

In the most disgusting way!"

u/StrawberryKink · 2 pointsr/Oct2018BabyBumps

I can't stop laughing at "sac vomitoire" lolol That's a good idea though, I "borrowed" a couple of these from work to keep in my car and by my bed juuuuust in case.

Do motion sickness bands like these (http://www.amazon.in/Acu-Life-Motion-Sickness-Relief-Band/dp/B000JQWZ12) based on acupunture work ?

u/UtesDad · 66 pointsr/funny

For the curious, the thing she has on her arm is a barf bag

u/TweakedMonkey · 1 pointr/uberdrivers

Emesis bags are cheap and totally worth the money...you don't smell anything either.

u/Hellvis · 1 pointr/sailing

Have you tried one of these?
https://www.amazon.com/ReliefBand-Motion-Sickness-Device-Batteries/dp/B00VU8XXBE/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_121_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=X7YPGMCPFJEP3YZFTEC8

A friend of mine's wife swears by it. It electrically stimulates a nerve that somehow counteracts seasickness.

My wife gets motion sick pretty bad so we're going to try it when things are rough and see how it goes.

u/accentmarkd · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

Preggie Pops saved me. I can't stand anything lemon flavored, but raspberry and green apple in particular have helped a ton.

u/notjanuary · 2 pointsr/December2019bumpers

I seriously recommend these:
Emesis Bag, Disposable Vomit Bags, Aircraft & Car Sickness Bag, Nausea Bags For Travel Motion Sickness (25) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZBP4PW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XEIVCbJ2Q8X66

u/cjaneway · 1 pointr/May2018Bumpers

I'm seriously considering buying these to keep in my purse and car so that I'm prepared in any situation!

u/T_sardonicus · 2 pointsr/nostalgia

My wife used to wear acupressure wristbands to prevent motion sickness, but she lost them at some point. Once upon a time, we were going to Cedar Point, and she wanted to get another set, but when she asked a store associate about it, they said, "um, we have those 'What Would Jesus Do' bracelets you kids like so much."

This was ca. 2001-'02, I hadn't seen one of those things in years by that point.

Also, when they first started being A Thing in the '90s, I thought WWJD was a radio station. A country station, given where I grew up, so I probably wouldn't have been far off anyway.

Preggie pop drop or lollys would have died a million deaths without those damn things. Three Lollies Organic Preggie Pop Drops for Morning Sickness Relief, 3 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJZCBCE/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_dOSVub1DZVM9S

As many others have stated, for most it gets better over time. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is motion sickness wristbands. I've suffered from motion sickness in certain flat screen games so when I got into VR I was ready for it. Something simple like this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076MSCX16/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) worked wonders for me in the past. It doesn't eliminate the sensation entirely but certainly reduces the symptoms, including the feeling of being sick afterwards. I will warn you though, as soon as you notice yourself feeling sick, dizzy, or "off" in any other way and you're wearing those, stop playing and take a break. Powering through with those on is definitely worse than powering through without them in my experience. They have allowed me to ignore the symptoms much longer than I should.

A recent example is Blade and Sorcery. That game uses locomotion and it was making me sick again. I started using the wristbands to alleviate the symptoms and at this point I don't wear them in that game unless I plan on playing for more than an hour. Last night I ended up playing for about an hour and a half and forgot to put them on but I was fine.
