🎓 Reddit experts on archery equipment
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where archery equipment are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
1.) Something that is blue.
This Neblua Funko Pop is not only cute, but also BLUE.
Because Mother's Day is around the corner, how about this gorgeous necklace?
Not only that, but are you a fidget kinda preson? Then this is the perfect thing for you!
2.) Something that says summer (literally or figuratively).
Gotta love summer! You know what comes with summer? Sunflowers!
For some reason, pineapples really remind me of summer. I can't really say why. They just, like, SCREAM "summer" to me.
Summer, to me, also means relaxing with a good book. And what better book than the next one in the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin?
3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Not sure if this counts as unusual, but I thought it was quite abnormal...
Also, I can't say I've ever seen a water melon cake-topper, though I'm no expert on cake toppers.
Also, if horror movies and the undead are your kinda thing, how about a side-dish of zombie?
4.) Something you want to gift to someone else, and tell me why.
I really want to gift this beautiful Pop moment to my brother, because he's amazing and deserves all the things.
I also want to gift this soundtrack to my sister because she's always singing, and I know it'd makes her happy.
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
Oh my gosh, you are totally asking the right person. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is one of the best books that has ever existed. Not only that, but it's a series! Also, my username is taken from the first page of the book, so that must mean that it's good. It's got suspense, kids with powers, and some horror themes. It's just overall a great book. PLEASE check it out!
Another good book series is the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. The final book is coming out this year, so I'm excited!
Why stop there? Another great book is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It will break your heart, but in a good way. It's a beautifully written book. I'm not sure what genre you like, but it reminded me of the genre of books like The Fault in Our Stars and Everything, Everything.
Another great series is The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken. Not only is a great series, but there's also a movie coming out in August that's based off the books! Better get reading. ;)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
These are totally adorable AND affordable! Talk about a deal.
Like writing? This notebook would be the excellent choice for the writer within! Or just someone who likes taking notes.
Have a cat? How 'bout some good ol' catfood?
7.) Something related to dogs. (Bonus point if it works for my GSD)
I don't know what GSD means I'M SORRY! But here is the cutest alligator plushie. Like if I was a dog I would legit want it for myself.
I stumbled across this adorable squirrel set thing and I am internally squeeing at the cuteness.
Okay by now I really want a dog. Somebody send me one pronto. Here's an adorable taco plush, because heck it's cute and funny and I really want a puppy.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so awesome you must have it.
Oh boy, you shouldn't have asked. It's the most expensive thing on my wishlist, and it's beautiful. I know, I know, it's a book, but it's more than that! It's a HUGE book with photographs from my favorite, most-loved movie series! Seriously. Words cannot describe how cool of a book it is. And there's a limited number of them made, and there's only 3 left in stock. But I digress. It's not what one would consider useful, but it sure is awesome.
Wait, what's that? I haven't mentioned Kylo Ren in 2 minutes? Oh boy, better change that. Yes, I love Kylo Ren. I'm aware that is a touchy subject with people. I don't care. I have a shrine in my room for Kylo Ren. This pillow is not what most people would call necessary, though honestly I would probably beg to differ.
Pretty much everyone can agree that Funko Pops aren't necessary, but they are so much fun oh my gosh. Like, for instance, this somewhat expensive yet cool Darth Vader Pop.
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
I love movies. With a passion. But my favorite movies of all time, are The Hunger Games movies. If that wasn't evident by the massive expensive book above, then I don't know what is. But honestly, they're great movies. I know they're not for everyone, but they hold a special place in my heart.
Someone recently gifted me Moulin Rouge, and honestly it is so good. So, I also, of course, recommend that. It has singing, great vocalists, great songs, and a great plot. It also has Ewan McGregor, so what's not to like?
I saw Logan (the final Wolverine movie in theaters, and it is such a beautiful movie. Very sad, but very beautiful. The best Wolverine movie in my opinion. 10/10 would watch/cry again.
Another great futuristic movie is V for Vendetta. It's a well-known movie, and it's very good.
If you're into horror, I love the most recent Carrie movie. I know it's not for everyone, but I really liked it.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
I mean, I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but this bat would make a great weapon in the apocalypse. Also, if you're into leading an army and "saving" people, this bat will probably get you there. (Ahem I totally didn't just buy this bat for myself cough.)
Not sure if bright green is the way to go in the apocalypse, but I'm sure a bow and arrow set would keep you alive for a little bit. Especially if you happen to be Daryl Dixon (though I guess he technically has a crossbow... I digress).
Don't try and tell me that in the apocalypse you won't get peckish. Everyone knows that snacks will be the first to go. Better stock up on those sweet, sweet snacks.
I don't have much on my wishlist that I desperately want, but this is a staff I would quite like because I'm still trying to learn what my SO does, but the one I have is a small twirling one rather than a full size staff and I'd love to have one if my own eventually.
And this is a compound bow that I would definitely say is something I've wanted to try since I was a kid, it's just hard because I dot really have the space to use it which sucks. Archer us definitely something I'd love to get into though.
Now, I never really like to tell people what they ought to try unless they express an interest in the first place, but honestly, if you're after a new hobby, both archery and circus are really fun, awesome and pretty badass hobbies to say you have. My SO breathes fire - I mean, how awesome does that sound?! But of course, it's entirely up to you :) neither of these are super expensive (the super 3 pensive stuff would be camera equipment, but I keep that off wishlists so I don't get sad I can't afford them), so give them a try if you wanna :D
Sorry for the late reply, I had to rush out shortly after you posted.
> Thank you again. I actually like the idea of a hunting bow because I enjoy the challenge and I’m quite a stronger teenager so I’m sure I could handle the weight increase.
> I have also been to the archery store twice and used the 20# recurves there and they were quite light for me.
Having an easy time with a bow at a shop is quite normal, it was the same when I bought my first recurve. It'll be a completely different story after you've shot it for an hour or two. Speaking as a 25 y/o man who is built like a bear, it's best not to underestimate the physical strain of taking repeated shots over a long period of time; the machismo isn't worth it. Unless you actively go to the gym and include thorough back and shoulder exercises in your routine, you're probably going to be sore as shit after shooting a 20+# recurve for a good while, assuming you don't have to stop early. If you're not careful, overbowing can even lead to injury. To put it into perspective, I've seen a number of grown men, who clearly hit the gym several times a week, rubbing their sore arms after just 90 minutes of shooting a 20# recurve. Good back conditioning and shooting form are critical for not only accuracy but safely and comfortably shooting a bow, and those take practice to develop. I'll refer you to one of Nusensei's videos on the topic, he has some of the best archery related resources on the internet, including on many of the topics I've explained here. Whatever draw weight you ultimately choose, and I do recommend starting low, make sure to pay attention to your body and form, pace yourself, and don't shoot to the point of injury.
You can get higher poundage with a full size target recurve too, it's not just a hunting recurve thing, and there are more important points to consider when choosing a bow. If you want a challenge, traditional shooting and barebow take a lot of practice to get decent results (I actually shoot barebow myself), but every form of archery is difficult as you'll take more difficult shots appropriate for your accuracy. Archery is a sport about overcoming yourself, you can always make it harder.
> WOARCHERY Combat Archery Takedown Right-Left Handed 25LBS Recurve Bow (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWCR46S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_tOfOAb8KSZ6TN
That WOARCHERY bow appears to be functionally equivalent to most fiberglass youth bows, albeit a little prettier. It's the sort of thing you'd find in camps or similar situations where the #1 priority is price with an utter disregard for performance. For the price you'd be better off with a Mandarin Duck Windrunner or Phantom, as those will perform how a real bow should, rather than being a glorified toy in a bow-like form.
Keep in mind that you're going to need arrows to match your bow, as well as an armguard and finger tab if you don't already own one. Recurves are more prone to string slapping your forearm when your form is bad as compared to compounds, and with the full draw weight on your fingers, damage is a very real possibility without protection; you can get away without a tab using light bows, but it's more comfortable to use one, and past 25# you can consider it mandatory.
Cheap brand name arrows cost a few dollars each, those will be perfectly adequate, and since you're just shooting in your backyard you won't need to get a full set. As for the armguard and finger tab, go for the el cheapo's here as well, a couple of dollars will get you something adequate; if you're the DIY sort you could even make your own.
I recommend a QAD Hunter rest for your first drop-away rest. I know I said I'd let you make a decision, but I wanted to at least recommend this rest. It's what I use and have used for years. I've never had a reason to spend over $100 on the other models because this one is less than $50 and works flawlessly. Some people say fork over the extra cash for the more expensive one just because it's quieter, but in all honesty I can't tell a difference in noise between the two and have shot both extensively. As long as you keep the felt on the launcher there is nearly no noise at all. Here is link to the rest on Amazon. It's a fantastic rest. Shop around for other drop-sways such as Trophy Takers, and even Trophy Ridge has some nice ones, but I wanted to recommend the QAD as it's what I shoot and I am more than pleased with it. It has lasted me probably 8 years and still going strong. You may need to take it to a pro shop to get the rip cord installed on your cables. I wouldn't use a "football", clamp I would have them tie it in to your cable. My local shop does it for a dollar, or free if you buy it or bought your bow from them.
You guys helped me out with my first non-face-to-face purchase a few months back, and as promised, this is the result.
Ruger MKiii slab side competition target model. I was told by the seller it was an unmodified safe queen, and when I got it, it did not disappoint.
Put in the Volquartsen trigger / accurizing kit and my certainly-not-competition-grade-but-seems-ok manual trigger pull gauge is putting it at a little under 2lbs. I've managed to adjust the trigger so that, while there's still a little take-up, I have zero over-travel. The kit comes with an extended bolt release, which I like a lot.
Was not loving the factory target grips it came with, so went with some spalted mango wood grips that this guy from Costa Rica makes and sells via eBay. 2 weeks shipping to Canada. Very, very happy with them.
Topped it with a TRS-25.
Took her to the range, put in a 1.5" 10 shot group @ 15 yards with bulk ammo. Happy.
Great accomplishment, looks good! You should put a nock point on that string, I can see that the arrow is nocked very low on the string, causing the limbs to bend unevenly. If you don't have a bow square, you can get away with a framing square. Search for "tied on nock points" on YouTube to learn how to actually apply a nock point. Good luck, and keep makin'. Also, listen for pops or crack sounds coming from your bow, and routinely inspect the belly for chrysals (compression fractures).
Welcome to the club! Love the G43x. Gotta change the sights out though.
Highly recommended: Trijicon GL613-C-600846 HD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSTOZGU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Yg8RDb1H17FSM
The bag obviously isn't great quality, but the bigger issue are those gloves. They look like old school bag gloves that offer almost no protection. Get quality leather bag gloves from ringside or title. Gel bag gloves weigh more so keep that in mind as well if you go with that option.
A water filled bag like THIS is more affordable since you don't have to pay to ship 100lb.
The most important thing is that you learn to wrap your hands properly and punch with correct form. Without doing so you're going to injure your hands and wrists constantly.
Yeah, my guess is that you need to move your nocking point up a bit. Try moving it up in 1/8" increments until your flight looks more stable. Don't go more than 1/2" up from where you are now, though.
The best way to go is to use a bow square and measure out 1/2" above the rest as a starting point, then adjust up and down to tune. I don't know if you have one, though. You might ask the range if you can borrow one.
Get a stick on arrow rest like a Bear Weather rest or a Hoyt Super rest. They are $5, will let you shoot those vaned arrows, and people have won natl champoinships using them.

What's up with all of these air cannon things? If I can't use a ladder I climb. If I can't climb I use my hunting bow.
Now sure I wouldn't have bought that for only launching antennas (a bit spendy for that purpose). But you can pull off the same thing with a $40 quasi-toy version of a bow and a coule of cheap arrows. In fact, it would be easier to use one of those than a 65 lb draw compound that you need to release before it breaks (or you'll end up shooting so high you'll need FAA approval first).
It's an amazing costume but it's so odd he didn't just buy a cheap little bow and paint it red. I have one of these and it'd be the perfect size for speedy's bow.
I have used these for a few years now.

They self heal pretty well and you can get creative with how to mount.
You can fix those old arrows up with shrink wrap fletchings. Cheaper can be found, but it takes about 10 minute to refletch 10 arrows, and they'll fly better than when they were new. Scrape off the old fletchings with a knife (I assume you can find one), boil some water, remove water from heat, put the new fletchings on as you like, and slowly dip into the hot water.
That's all there is to it.
Cabelas had this for $225 not too long ago. Incredible value. i shot my buddy's and it's a surprisingly nice unit. I have a wicked ridge invader g3, very nice unit, but not worth 2X the cost of the centerpoint to be honest.

The first thing you need to upgrade is the sights. I highly recommend the Trijicon HD XR with an orange front post, but it also comes in yellow. Both sets will have glow in the dark tritium inserts for all three indicators.
If you’re relying on it for self defense, I wouldn’t change anything else. Just get a holster your comfortable with.

This one is great, it is three point quiver so it is not unbalanced and it has that nice little pocket.

With a complete slide at a good price I'd look at Rocky Brass

I have an old Grayling jig from the 90's. It was a hand-me-down/freebie. It's basically a plastic version of the Bitzenburger. I have fletched many dozens of arrows with it and I plan to fletch many dozens more. After a quick google search, I see that the Grayling Fletching Jig is still available today, and $29 for a complete setup seems like a reasonable deal. I just found a right helical clamp for it for about $10.
If this jig had not been given to me for free I would have been skeptical about it and I am sure I would have never purchased one based on online pictures, but the jig has definitely been a work horse. The only routine maintenance that I do on this jig is to check the nock alignment before I start and to adjust the nock rotation if I want the cock feather up instead of out.
If I was going to get a new fletching jig today, I would probably get one of the Bohning Feather Tower Fletching Jigs that does three feathers or vanes at one time.
The CenterPoint Sniper 370 has been getting really good reviews all over the internet. I'll most likely be picking one up after the first of the year. They'll probably go back down to $275 after the holidays.

I use something similar, the Grayling Fletching Jig. Should work about the same as the one you linked, so I think it's a worthy investment. I chose this because I didn't want a bright red one. Haha.
Did you know Amazon will donate a portion of every purchase if you shop by going to smile.amazon.com instead? Over $50,000,000 has been raised for charity - all you need to do is change the URL!

Steel Target and Target Stand.
I use there and they've lasted super long. All you need is 6 sections of rebar (cheap, should be $3/ea at home depot/lowes)
Recurve. 25-30lb. They look like this:
https://www.amazon.ca/WOARCHERY-Archery-Takedown-Right-Left-Recurve/dp/B06XWCR46S/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1511049621&sr=8-10&keywords=recurve+bow
I suggest you do your own research as I didn't do much before I made my purchase and I think I should have spent more and bought something a bit better. I've heard Bass Pro Shops has great service when trying to pick a bow.
If you are buying, I recommend the accessories. This gets pricey but they are worth it. I don't know all the terms but there's a forearm protector as well as a little thing you can put on your fingers to protect those. I skipped them at first and ended up buying after going out a few times. My forearm was raw and my fingers hurt. As for arrows, buying a bunch in bulk on Amazon will lead to crappy arrows that don't fly well. I've tried a few. All junk. The $7 Eastons are the only arrows I've liked. Be prepared to destroy and lose a few :) Especially if you are taking your kids...
Have you looked into something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Bow-Trainer-Strength-Training-Archers/dp/B00B7PFG38
Otherwise, push-ups, rows or pull ups will help to keep the muscles going. The muscle memory without the above... a different story.
Yeah, he should upgrade to trtiitum sights or possibly an RMR they are getting popular these days.
These things can pack a wallop. Obviously you would have difficulty competing, but it could be fun.
What you need is a regular stick-on rest; the one that was on there was probably a Bear Weather Rest which can be found pretty much anywhere that sells archery gear of any kind.
go forth and save your city
and it's prime eligible
$15 less expensive on Amazon if that helps the decision
Ok... I'm gonna try and look exclusively on amazon, because it seems pretty representative of prices elsewhere and it would take too long to look everywhere. I'll work in UK money, since that's where I live, and I'll convert it to USD at the end.
Just get on there and shoot what you want. Sounds like you're attracted to "traditional" archery now, so go for that. If you want to expand and try new things later (which you probably will) then go for it then.
One thing I have not seen mentioned yet is that you can usually go shooting on National Forest lands. State Forest lands may be an option as well. Check county ordinances too, as you can usually shoot if you're in unincorporated land at least a certain distance from inhabited dwellings. If you're just starting out, you can get a youth Block target for around $40 from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Block-Youth-Archery-Arrow-Target/dp/B00RH65IMA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1502379284&sr=8-6&keywords=block%2Btarget&th=1&psc=1). Take the target and your bow and just go shoot.
As long as its useable, im fine with it. Im thinking about getting this quiver. If i can get used to drawing from a back quiver, I'll be fine.

how much do you train? coming from someone who is very amateur i once went through this same ordeal. i found it incredibly annoying to cover up my bag especially since you have to make sure no water gets in at all. i currently use this

but not sure if its for you. pros: rain/the outdoors will do nothing to it, its variable weight, cheap shipping cons:its not the most durable, the stitching on side gave out after about a year or less although it hasnt affected its use since the rubber hasnt broken its mainly aesthetics. side note its much softer than a regular bag which is up to you if that's negative or not. i personally like it because ive had hand problems and most times i dont even have to use handwraps. i really love this bag honestly.
Neat! Similarly if you're not looking to spend much you can get one of these low tech scales. http://www.amazon.com/G-P-S-Aluminum-Firearm-Trigger-Scale/dp/B00D79V6UY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Same thing as the others posted, but this time it's actually an amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Bow-Trainer-Strength-Training-Archers/dp/B00B7PFG38/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453405938&sr=8-1&keywords=bow+trainer

I started on one of those, it isn't the best, but it's alright for a beginner. You would need more arrows and a target though.
Found it.

They're these TRUGLO tritium sites. I like them but unfortunately they're not high enough to work with the red dot.

If there's no height adjustment possible and it's fitted properly then I can only imagine you'd need to lower the D Loop/Nock point. Photographs are difficult to judge it from. When I set my bow up I used a bow square to align the nocking points so that the arrow is square with the centre of the Berger holes (the two holes in the riser ahead of the arrow rest). But I do have a height adjustable rest which allowed some fine tuning.
