1. Download and install the latest working Nvidia drivers (390.77) as that unlocks the Nvidia control panel so you can manually select which apps use GPU vs dGPU. I’ve caught a few games trying to not use the dGPU and this fixed it.
   
   
   
2. Adaptive brightness: there are two things that cause your screen to dim on its own. One is via the camera and the ambient lighting in the room. This you can disable in settings. The other is based on the brightness of the onscreen content. This is an Intel GPU Setting. You can either install the Intel drivers and disable it via the Intel control panel, or you can search here for the quick registry edit to resolve it.

Then I'd recommend a Sony PSP. Preferably the 3000 or Go models (though a 2000 works fine, it just has less vibrant colors; avoid the 1000 and the European-only E1000 Street since they have less hardware capabilities). Just hack the PSP with ProCFW using this guide (you'll need a valid memory card) and then it can run a bunch of different emulators; it does GB/GBC/GBA especially well. You can get the emulators I use here, and put them in your memory card at ?:\PSP\GAME (where ? is your PSP's drive letter after connecting it to your computer with a miniUSB cable like the old flip phones, not microUSB or USB type C like a smartphone). Homer's RIN is for GB/GBC games and has cleaner scaling than anything else, but has compatibility probs with a few games. EmuMaster (which plays GB/GBC and also Sega GameGear/MasterSystem) will handle some of the ones that RIN can't, but has ugly bilinear scaling. TempGBA is just the best GBA emulator you can get for the system and nothing else compares (it'll even play the Golden Sun games, with very slight frameskip in the overworld). You'll have to find/dump your own roms, though.

Also, you can get a microSD to MS Pro Duo adapter for cheap instead of paying up the arse for an official memory card (Warning: Doesn't work with the Go since it takes a Memory Stick Micro (M2) instead). Make sure your microSD cards aren't too high of a capacity, though; a PSP only officially supports up to 32GB total (that is, 2x16GB in the adapter I linked; these should work perfectly), and my friend got his working with 2x32GB Class-10 SanDisk cards, but I hear certain brands won't work at that capacity and we haven't found anything above those 2x32GB cards that work at all (they are seen as 'damaged' and unable to be formatted in the PSP). Not that you'll need that much space for GB/GBC/GBA games anyway... :P

On the other hand, most cheap smartphones nowadays can run the My Boy! and My OldBoy! emulators just fine, even for 'problem' games like Golden Sun, so getting a cheap tracfone and a decent bluetooth controller might be an even better idea than going for an aging PSP, and still cheaper than most of those clone consoles. Of course, that comes with Android's audio latency problems, and you won't be able to use save states in those emulators unless you get the paid versions (which are $4.99 and $3.99, respectively) but I think it'd still be better than getting any of the clone systems you mention, especially since Android emulators are so easily updated. Note that there are also other free GB/GBC/GBA emulators for Android, I just know from personal experience that the MyBoy ones work well...

I will be testing this out. I raid regularly in WoW, and this past weekend, the SB2 worked great. Averaged between 40-60 FPS in raid at its native resolution with the graphics settings at 7 for normal world, and 5 for Raid. No, it isnt as good as my dedicated gaming and editing machine, but more than passable for me. I knew it wasn't going to get as good of performance as the other machine, but I bought it for travel to game and edit videos.

It is closer to the other machine for editing, only being slightly slower for scrubbing and rendering of 4K. My main machine is near to real time (5 min video takes just over 5 mins to render on the main machine.) I will give it a godo test tonight, but the initial testing had it rendering out the same 5 min video in a little under 7 minutes. Completely acceptable for a travel box.

Photoshop and Lightroom perform fantastically. While I havent done official tests or anything, they perform as well as my main machine. And being able to set them up to always use the GPU, they scream. and I love using it in tilt mode (with the screen flipped and folded over the KB.

I opted for the 15" i7, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I have a 256 GB MicroSD I use for storage and got an adapter that is meant for the SB2 15". I will link it. This saved me a good amount of money. There is a huge jump between that 256GB and 512GB SSD. With everything I need, and using the MicroSD as a scratch disk, I still have over 100GB free space. Windows, WoW full, Premier Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom and various other apps related to CCE.

The SB2 you mention (even the 256GB SSD) can easily be a full desktop replacement so long as expectations are within the real world and the device is used as designed. I see mine being used more than my main computer.

Halo=3.4GB, Halo 2=4.4GB, GTA San An=2.9GB, DJFFNY=2.8GB, SW KOTOR=3.7GB, Battle for Bikini Bottom=1.7GB. I'd say average is maybe 2 to 3.5GB. All these sizes I listed are in xbe format, ftp'd to hdd.

I put a 2TB in mine, and I can now see it was overkilll for what I wanted. I have a few more modded xbox's I'm gonna upgrade soon, and planned on going with 500GB, but the 1TB is only a few bucks more, so I'm gonna do that.

The adapter comes with a molex splitter, so you dont need to buy one if you go that route. I've read that the HDE adapter also works, but is 50/50 on if you get a working one, so that's the only reason I went with Startech. I'm very happy with that 80 wire cable, also. Before ordering, I read countless reviews of other cables being crap, and not being a tight connection, or even having a connector that works. This one is awesome, its a little snug, and hard to bend, but I eventually got it in there and look semi professional. The 3 connectors are spaced a little weird for xbox, so you can only use it one way, and just barely have enough spacing between the hdd cradle and dvd drive. The cable is very firm, I was worried it was going to be low quality, but its nice.

I have the following games installed and am only using 94.2GB.

GB-569, GBA-1140, GBC-564, N64-212, GENESIS-810, NES-820, SNES-787, XBOX-27, PSX-5.

Since this is my main xbox, I'm gonna eventually load it down with as many original xbox titles as I can find. After that, I've read that CoinOps and Final Burn are worth checking out, so thats also on the list. Once I find out the games I like, I'm gonna make the 1TB purely for games I enjoy, nothing extra. I do love the Favorites tab in Rocky's Emustation, makes finding a game you love out of thousands very easy.

I haven't found out how to get the PSX games to show up in emustation yet, but I know it has to do with the bin/cue area. The bin's are large files, but the cues are only 1kb. I think I saw Rocky post somewhere saying you have to load from cue's, but I'm not sure how.

A bit of indirect advice:

Size: Memory Stick cards (Pro Duo specifically) come in 4, 8, 16, and 32GB variants, so you'll most likely be looking for a 32GB card.

Speed: There are a variety of speeds out there, depending on the manufacturer, but as the PSP can't read faster than about 10MB/s anyway, you don't need to worry about high-end MS cards that are really designed for digital cameras and computers.

Brands: I would recommend going with a Sony or SanDisk card [1]. However, as with a lot of memory media these days you need to be extremely careful of who you buy from. Flash memory is one of the most commonly counterfeited products on the market and it's very easy for legitimate companies to inadvertently stock counterfeit cards. So whatever card you decide to buy, make sure you test it and see that it performs at the approximate speed indicated and that you have the full amount of space as described on the packaging.

Alternatives to expensive cards: There are also micro-SD to Memory Stick Pro Duo adapters (though they may not be reliable using two cards in tandem instead of one). I've never tried it out on a PSP, but supposedly they work and buying two cheaper micro-SD cards and an adapter might be cheaper and easier to replace in the event that something happens (because ultimately all of these small electronics aren't going to be perfectly reliable).

[1] Sony has more stringent requirements about where they source their memory from, so Sony-branded memory should be above average. SanDisk makes their own memory so they can pick from the best price/performance of their own inventory without having to rely on a memory maker to supply them with reliable parts.

I've recommended this hub many times. It's what I use to backup my photos while traveling. It may not work with all external hard drives, but I use a larger flash drive and it works great. But if it has its own power source it sounds like it might work.

Alternately you could go with one of these. They are bit more expensive, but seem to work a little easier.

Also, I think it's a bit easier to use SD cards for this scenario without a computer. I use this adaptor and haven't had any issues. Makes life a little easier while traveling not having to worry about bringing a separate reader.

3. Tbh not many people I know do the ram upgrade, it’s uses are limited but would help a bit with some emulators. The 2 popular snes emus run fantastic without the ram upgrade, as does the genesis, gba, and nes. The psx and n64 ones are a bit more finnicky, but many of the popular games have compatibility settings which make the games run quite well.

Yeah, they speak standard SATA/AHCI/NVMe but they use a custom connector type. It's how they lock you into using Apple storage only (thanks Apple!)

Edit: If anyone reading is interested in upgrading their MacBook with a larger non-Apple SSD I've had really good success with these adapters and a variety of NVMe drives. Basically everything you need is in this thread, there are some caveats w.r.t. system firmware updates with a non-Apple drive so read carefully. A quick shout out to the best low cost NVMe drive I've used too. Total cost to upgrade from a 120GB Apple SATA SSD in my SO's 2015 MBP to a 480GB NVMe drive was like $115 and the drive is something absurd like 8x faster.

It's pretty bad, on par with a mid range laptop of a decade ago in short bursts, then gets slower when it hits power/temperature limits from being fanless.

Couple of things you need first: A big MemoryStick Pro Duo, or better yet, a MicroSD-to-Memory Stick adapter and a MicroSD card between 32 & 128GB in size ( stay under 128GB to avoid menu lag). Here’s the adapter I used, with a 128GB MicroSD from Walmart:

Then you’ll need to install custom firmware. It’s basically installing a modified version of Sony’s operating system, that allows you to run unsigned or unofficial apps and games on your PSP. The best step-by-step guide for doing so, with download links for what you’ll need, is here:

Installing emulators is usually as simple as downloading with a PC, and extracting the eboot.pbp file and other included/required files & folders from the downloaded archive and onto the PSP MemoryStick into the correct folder location, usually something like “MS:/PSP/GAME/EMULATOR_NAME/“

However, in addition to the emulators, which function as the game consoles you want to play, you will also need the games themselves, which are collectively called roms. These you will need to place in a “roms” or “games” subfolder in each emulator’s folder. Those you’ll have to hunt down yourself, though; the legality of distributing roms varies by region, and may be against the rules to share here.

Once you get all that lined out, you’ll have to figure out each emulator’s controls, options and menu schemes; these are homebrews, that is, apps made by hobbyists and enthusiasts in their spare time. They often don’t have a unified menu structure or common user interface.

But once you get everything figured out, it will be totally worth it.

Yeah, everyone expects Microsoft to announce an update to the Surface Book in the fall, possibly November timeframe. Though of course, this is all just speculation.

Between the two existing models, I would say that for gaming you would definitely want the 2016 edition with the Performance Base. I have the 2015 Core i7 / dGPU OG Surface Book, and the graphics are just too limiting for a good gaming experience. On the newer model, you can likely run most current AAA PC games at 900p/1080p with decent settings and framerate (there is a sub for dedicated Surface gamers called r/sufacegaming I believe... check there).

For your use case, the only real benefit of the 16Gb model, in my view, would be if you expect to run more than 1-2 virtual machines as part of your programming / CS workload. 8GB is still a lot of memory. You can expand the storage of any Surface Book by getting one of these: BASEQI Micro SD Adapter for Surface Book and an appropriate micro SD card.

To upgrade the softmod, use this Quick Upgrade from Rocky5's Softmodding Tool. You just FTP it to your the root of the E partition and run the default.xbe file. If you haven't nulled your EEPROM, you need to do that as well so if the HDD dies, you can easily replace it. You can run Rocky5's Softmodding Tool Extras Disc from your HDD or use ConfigMagic to do that.

Also, if you have a SATA HDD dock or some kind of SATA to USB adapter, nulling the EEPROM would allow you to easily build an upgrade HDD on your PC for the Xbox. You may even be able to hook the HDD directly into another slot in your computer, but I can't remember. I want to say yes on that though. Anyway, you'd use XboxHDM2USB beta 3 to do that.

OR, you can use Chimp 261812 to clone your HDD to a larger one. You will need a molex splitter, IDE to SATA adapter; this one is recommended a lot but others work too. And you will need a 40-pin 80 wire IDE cable; 24 inches is recommended. You'll boot you Xbox as normal, load Chimp, and it will tell you when to hot swap the DVD drive with your HDD you're upgrading to. It's pretty straightforward.

As for the DVD drive, they are interchangeable between Xbox consoles and are not locked to the motherboard. I don't know much about those, but you can try cleaning the laser or adjusting it doing a laser pot tweak. I think that's what it's called. Someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in on that.

And lastly, since it's pretty much obligatory here, remove the clock capacitor in your Xbox if it hasn't been removed and your Xbox isn't a revision 1.6 or 1.6/b.

There are few quirks which might be addressed in the new generation. The USB3 ports can cause interference with the Wifi if the dongle/flashdrive is unshielded. The USB ports are also underpowered and struggle to run some portable hard-drives (in my case an SSD in a 3rd party enclosure) Both of these problems can be fixed using a hub and a USB3 y cable.

The internal storage was the biggest problem for me initially but has been mostly solved by using this a MicroSD Adaptor that sits flush in the base also sometimes the screen detachs if I sneeze or jar it in a similar way and takes a second before I can use the keyboard again.

Despite the above issues I am very happy with the device. The dock works great and computer is a pleasure to use as both a laptop and a tablet. I work on it, play games on it, read comics on it and if it broke today I would go out and buy it again.

You really can't go wrong with any of them - but this model is a good "starter" Mac that gets a lot of people to join the dark, I mean, good side. Even if you got that model used from eBay or even Gazelle or Swappa I'd still recommend this model.

It's a little more than you might spend for it on eBay or Craigslist, but newegg.com is a reputable site, and you won't have the hassle of dealing with scammers or anything along those lines.

As for wether or not it would be a good upgrade, across the board the answer is yes, with the exception of storage capacity. That said, the SSD will be a much faster internal storage, and if you need more storage, you can always add something like this to your SD card slot.

It will be more than capable of editing HD videos, and should even handle smaller 4k videos just fine. If your budget is under $1,000, this wouldn't be a bad machine to buy.

That said, have you considered looking into selling your current machine and maybe going for something a little newer?

Just a few weeks ago I modded my BW iPod 4th Gen. I used this SD to CF adapter, and this CF to IDE adapter. Sadly, it looks like it's out of stock. The one that the other person linked looks good. Always read the reviews.

They’re nice because they sit flush with the side of the surface book and they match the silver aesthetic. The one I linked to is for the 13.5 inch though, so just change it over to the 15 inch model

Not a Mac, but my set up is a Surface Book with dGPU, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM with an i5 processor.

Then I use a 200GB Micro SD for extra storage when the slot is free, with this nifty little adapter. The adapter is also available for earlier Macbooks too.

Really just depends what you're going for. At the end of the day, software is software. Pick whatever suits your tastes in terms of hardware, as long as it's a bit of a powerhouse when you need it to be.

I chose the Surface Book for it's incredibly well calibrated display, and 1700:1 contrast ratio.

Also, it's pretty.

It works great for me. The biggest advantages over the SP4 are the battery life, screen size, and form factor. The 128gb can feel limiting sometimes, but I got this for external memory (since I never use SD cards). It fits fine on small college desks. The battery is about 10 hours with 50-75% brightness and light use, plenty for a full day of classes.

I should mention that MS advertises a 1 year battery life for the pen. This might be true (I haven't had it for a year), but the included battery only had enough charge for a month. It uses an AAAA battery too, which isn't generally sold in stores. So I recommend ordering a few AAAA batteries (I think I got a 4-pack for $5-10) just in case.

That's why I've had to use SD cards in an adapter in Slot B. It's an extra step, but it actually hasn't caused me any trouble (to my surprise). I got an SD to CF adaptor and use the Apple branded SD to iPhone card reader.

These are the accessories I got for my SB2 15 inch. The ProCase 13-13.5 fits the 15 inch SB2 perfectly.

I use the Skinomi matte body skin. There's only one 1 star review, but it fits nicely, like a screen protector but for the whole body. They make it in matte and clear. Be patient with the skin, you're going to need time with it.

1. I'm not sure if your drive is lockable or not but most SATA drives are.
   
2. Chimp will format the partitions for you. (C,E,F,G etc.)

4. Chimp will format the drive to FATX for you.
   
   The adapter has jumper settings for master/slave/and cable select. When cloning your original drive you'll want to set the adapter to slave. You'll also need an 80 wire IDE cable. Using the original 40 wire cable doesn't work with SATA drives.
   
   Lastly you'll need a molex Y splitter to power both hard drives at the same time while cloning. Also make sure you have an original Microsoft controller. I've heard 3rd party controllers don't work with Chimp, though I can't verify this since all my controllers are Microsoft S controllers.

I took some measurements in order to help in the search. I measured 6 random SD cards, and SD card adapters, and they range from 1.25" to 1.255", so it seems industry standards is likely that.

I then measured the the overhang (.293") of a standard SD card to determine the optimal length of: 0.957"

The issue now is finding the right measurements, as most companies don't go out of their way to provide measurements of their cards, or do not describe the measurements well enough to know which is the true length, width or height.

Measures (LxWxH): 0.9 x 1.1 x 0.1 inches. So, if the inserted length is 1.1, then it might work great with just a slight overhang. However, if it's the .9 for the inserted length, then it wouldn't full insert given the lip on the JetDrives.

Your hard drive died. It happens..the drive in there has got to be 10 years old now, and it was the tiniest little hard drive you ever did see, anyways. Luckily, replacing the hard drive is not only super easy, but prices have gone down so much that you can replace it with 128GB for quite a reasonable price.

The Ars Technica review provides a more detailed overview, and I agree with their findings: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/11/surface-book-with-performance-base-a-lot-more-graphics-in-a-little-more-weight/ . The 965m is a massive step up from the original ~940m.

In short: The tablet portion is identical, battery life improved, no throttling, improved cooling to accommodate the 965m, fan noise slightly louder (but nothing unusual for ultrabooks).

One observation that I had is that the slightly heavier (and thicker) base also improves on the balance of the whole system. It doesn't feel like it wants to topple backwards as often when its in my lap.


Also: If you had a flush mount microSD adapter, I can confirm that it fits in the new base.

You're probably not going to have much luck fitting the SATA drive into the device, even if you can find the right series of adapters.

I would suggest replacing the drive with an SD card in an SD-CF adapter into a CF to 1.8 IDE adapter. What you have is the same kind of drive used in the old iPods, so there's actually some demand out there for adapters for that interface. Readily sold online, even on Amazon.

And of course you'll need an SD card, but probably best to find one around the size of the old drive, like a 32GB or so.

Pretty well so far. The sd card just goes in the slot in the cf/sd adapter, I haven't been taking much pictures because of finals this week. It's nice to use a larger capacity for CF format, since large CF cards are expensive. CF cards are usually used on higher end and older cameras. Just make sure that your camera has updated firmware to use larger card sizes and can use CF II, because they are bigger than normal CF cards you usually get.

Do not buy that CF to SD card adapter it will not work. I bought the same one and could never get the iPod to work with it. I have modded a gen 3 iPod classic and a gen 4 classic (photo) and these components worked perfectly so they should work in yours fine. Hope that helps.

Sounds like you've thought through every aspect! Now, I'm guessing you're not considering the Core m3 model? Because I believe that with all the accessories is still cheaper than the SB and it is a TERRIFIC device! The processor speed on an m3 is equivalent of i5's just a couple years ago, it's stout.

With what you've described, I'd go for the Entry Level 128GB SB and buy a 64/128GB mSD Card here which will sit flush with the body of the device!

I can totally get by with 128GB though, I was completely fine with the 64GB in my base-level SP3!

As far as SB accessories, you shouldn't need a battery pack. I get between 8-10 hours depending on usage and I can't imagine you have anywhere near 8 hours of classes in one day?

I originally bought this set up hopefully to work around the bent pins in my 5dmarkII. this set up didn't make it worse or better, since you still need to take it out of the CF slot completely.

32GB cards are about 20 bucks compared to the high price of a 16GB CF card. 16 GB I can maybe shoot 500 photos on RAW, when in 32 I can easily double that. I don't need to depend on a card reader as well.

That's cool - it's time to start moving away from the IDE drives tho... you'll be able to get newer, larger (2TB), and more reliable drives with SATA for a cheaper price.

Long story short, the StarTech would boot to stock dash, but the DVD drive would no longer load any games. Tried with 40 and 80 wire IDE cables. Xbox just said it couldn't recognise the disk. The green one works perfectly with an 80 wire cable. Avoid the StarTech.

I specifically use this card rather than a MicroSD adapter, so I can't vouch for anything, but it works great.

"Isn't too old" is giving the CPU short shrift. Other than the rare 3215U in the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015, the 3205U is the newest Broadwell Celeron there is for Chromebooks. The only thing more powerful than these are the far more expensive Core i3 and Core i5 Broadwell chips in the Toshiba and Dell 13-inchers. In fact, the 3205U benchmarks neck and neck with the Haswell i3 in the older C720p and Dell 11.

I'm pretty sure the storage can be upgraded due to it being a Broadwell CPU. All N29xx Bay Trail and N3xxx Cherry Trail laptops have soldered onboard storage.

We're planning to outfit the my buddy's C740 with a 64GB microSD card slotted into a low-profile adapter that will sit flush in the edge of the laptop. That'll leave his USB 3.0 port open for flash drives and the USB 2.0 port for his mouse dongle.

I would really encourage you to think about upgrading the hard drive after you softmod it. Playing backed games on discs can get expensive since most of the games are 6gb+. Even a 80gb IDE drive would be a massive help!

...almost a perfect solution except for the fact that I won't be able to reach the files while only using the tablet. It won't be a problem very often though, and I should be able to adjust my work flows accordingly.

I believe for the initial setup, you need an official vita memory card, but you could use something like IMCUnlock to enable storage on that model afterwards. That would allow you to store all of the necessary files for Enso on internal storage.

The benefit to the IMCUnlock, to my knowledge, is that its permanent, so once its installed, your done. Updates to firmware and what not don't affect it.

As far as microSDs and storage, I use this SD2Vita adapter and a 128 GB card. I've heard 256 GB works too, but I haven't tried personally. Will all of my plugins installed on the internal storage, I can just boot up my Vita, and its mounted automatically.

the write performance cant compare to a PCIe SSD, but the read is terrific. i highly recommend it.

I don't really play games on my computer, mostly just Civ, so it's one of the few games I have installed on the SSD. I actually just ordered the BaseQi microSD card adapter so the memory card will sit flush in the SB for more semi-permanent capacity. I'll just be using my memory card for regular files like documents and photos.

Programs that depend on fast read/writes, like games or photo/video editors or whatever, I plan to put right on the main SSD.

edit: Scratch that, I'll probably also put some emulators on the SSD, but I can put the games on the memory card, even if the read speed is slower than the SSD. It'll be easier that way to balance storage and performance, and it'll still be way faster than if I were using the original CDs/DVDs games would have come on.

This. Absolutely correct and Thumbs Up! the 660p uses a good chunk of SLC Cache which makes it ideal for a games drive etc. - especially if you can run 2 in RAID0 (that's what I do; 2x 1TB 660p) and have a primary NVMe as boot drive that has higher sustained read/write, e.g. the 970 "EVO Plus" or "PRO" or WD Black Series and such. Now, the advantage of NVMe is that you can get cheap riser cards that will turn a PCIe slot into 2x NVMe for quite cheap since they just pass through the lanes. You cannot boot from it in most cases, but you can mount 2x 660p this way for storage. The riser shouldn't be more than $15. So, in total, your 2x 660p with the riser card roughly cost you as much as 1x 660p twice the capacity: 1x 1TB 600p = 2x 1TB 660p + riser.

Here is the one I used along with 2 64gb cards. I fuckin love it.

One thing to remember, put one card in the a slot at a time, format that card through your PSP, then format the other card in that same slot you previously used. I think after all of that, I put both cards in, and had to do one more format. Good to go!

I recommend you get a micro sd ribbon cable adapter for your pi. It will not only allow you to use full size sd cards but if you are swapping a lot it is easier to get the cards out and you will wear out the easily replaced adapter instead of the sd card slot on your pi.

What MBP do you have? Because I just got one of these to expand my storage it sits flush in the SD slot so you don't notice it and read and write speeds are pretty fast.

I'll try connecting the sata drive with the ide adapter to a pc in the meantime to see what happens.

EDIT: My BIOS sees the xbox hd connected to the pc's IDE port. Macrinum Reflect doesn't see the drive though, but it's there in device manager. I tried to boot clonezilla from the PC and I just got ATA errors and I couldn't go anywhere. The xbox drive is good as it works just fine with the xbox transferring files via FTP.

I tried the sata drive with the IDE adapter attatched and the computer doesn't see it. I'm going to go with this startech adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 before I try the TSOP mod.

I soldered my own when they first came out and it works but the newer versions look super polished.

I'd go with the i7. It is nearly twice as fast, because it is an 8th gen CPU. (5000 benchmark v. 9000 benchmark) and I think you'll encounter better battery life on it as well.

You can always opt for a 128gb microSD and the adapter it needs to expand storage for about $70.

ok so for the cf adapter I used the digigear found here. it works great and would highly recommend. for the sd card itself I used a 128gb sandisk microsd with an adapter. Now for the battery, I bought an ipod mini on ebay found here. Honestly I really cheaped out on the battery and so far for the day I've been using it it's been good. Reviews for the product are pretty mixed so I'll PM you in a few days after I've seen if I got fucked or not. It was $6 though so worst case scenario I'll bitch at the seller if it fails and buy one from ifixit for $15.

I really like my GO for travel, but M2 sucks and the 3000 is really a much better gaming experience. The chiclet buttons on the GO kind of suck and if you have normal human-sized hands, it's hard to hold. With softmods and CFW, you can do a non-permanent on just about any motherboard now. 3000 was three steps or so. Easy. There's no weird storage splitting (GO has onboard and M2) so you don't have to move around your saves or plugins. With a 3000, you can get dual and single memory card adapters. I have both and they work. You can go up to 128gb now, I think, but it's slow if you go that high. 32gb is easy and fast.

3000 has fewer emulation issues. I find that my GO has dumb random bullshit that for some reason crashes the unit with some SNES games. Even scrolling in the menu causes crashes ONLY on the GO.

IMHO, 2000 is best, but 1000 feels best in my hands. 3000 is okay, GO is really great for travel because it's so compact.

The best way is probably half-length SD cards that are designed to fit in your SD card slot and not stick out, so that you can leave them in there permanently.

Have you tried mounting you PSP (with both cards in adapter) on a Windows computer as a USB drive with mini-USB cable and then formatting it with FAT32 Formatter (http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm)? This is how I got rid of a bunch of garbled files that take up a huge amount of space on a 2x128GB setup.

If this still doesn't work properly (it should show ~239GB free space after formatting), it's probably the problem with the RAID chip used in adapter. These knockoff adapters use all sorts of chips with different compatibility. Some people reported their adapters only support 32GB. You should try a different adapter if nothing else helps. Yep, you can fit a PCIe SSD (also known as NVME) of any capacity. Since you only have 1 M.2 slot, you'll need to have a PCIe adapter if you want to clone your 128GB SSD onto the new one. Alternately, you can re-install Windows 10 and all of your software on your new drive.

As u/bennyblanco2121 said you can also keep your M.2 128GB drive and get a 2.5" SATA SSD. The speed difference between PCIe and SATA SSD isn't really significant for things like booting or starting programs. It's more obvious when copying large individual files.

I doubt the Genius Bar will be able to do this. You can perform an SSD replacement yourself, or go to a third party shop to do it.

Otherwise the cheapest and quickest option would be to just buy one of these clever things, buy a good 128gb or 256gb microSD card with it, and keep it in your SD card reader. What? Why would you use a USB3->SATA adapter? The NAS case is meant for people connecting SATA based drives with the use of a PCIe controller card.

If you want to connect up a straight NVMe drive you'll need to buy a separate PCIe->NVMe adapter and work that out on your own.

If you're simply interested in just having an NVMe drive consider the NanoPC-T4. It's slightly more expensive due to the builtin wifi and 16GB onboard eMMC (no SD card needed), but the NVMe SSD will then mount smartly to the bottom of the board without hassle.

IDE hard drives were the standard back in the ps2 era and today, they're really hard to find and extremely limited when it comes to max capacity compared to today's standard, SATA.

I got one for both my softmodded ps2 and chipped og Xbox and it allowed me to connect a modern day 2TB 2.5" SATA hard drive perfectly. The HDD and adapter fits inside the ps2 enclosure with room to spare. A much better option than spending a fortune on a larger old IDE hard drive on eBay.

I use the Transcend JetDrive Lite to store my large mp3 collection, pictures, documents, etc. and I really like it. It sits almost flush in the SD-CARD slot and out of the way.

And a Japanese Vita Slim, I can take it out without any issue just like a game cartridge. I take it out, reboot my console and it default back to the 2GB built in storage that the slim has. I can easily play physical games that way.

I personally got a 256gb SD card and mater to it to the Base QI adapter. It works for my needs and is far more mobile than an external SSD. The drawback to any external storage on the surface book though, is that it becomes inaccessible when removing the screen, so the other alternatives are to look at cloud storage options such as One Drive, which will cost more long-term due to subscription costs. So, I'd suggest weighing up what suits you best.

As for the contacts, use a Q-tip and LIGHTLY go over them with specialised contact cleaner.

Okay, so if you're going to video edit on Final Cut Pro, then go with the MacBook. FCP just works much better and is only on Mac. However, if you want to edit on Adobe Premiere, then go with this model. It has a 940M dGPU which helps with video editing.

2015 rMBP 13" 128gb owner here. I'm a Photography student so for me the substantial upgrade in graphics performance, RAM and hard drive write speed made the upgrade a no brainer. As for storage, I was lucky and got a Transcend JetDrive 330 128gb for $100 delivered (cheap for my country's exchange rates). I'd recommend one of those because it means that multimedia like movies and music (or anything that takes up space and doesn't need fast read/write speeds) can live on the drive permanently without taking up space on the SSD, this means that in my workflow I have the ability to import an SD card or three, work on the images, export them and send them on the super fast SSD and then transfer them to my 2 2TB portable external backup drives. I'd also recommend you buy at least one external drive, I need more because of my work but it's still handy to have somewhere to dump everything you need (or don't need).

Oh, the trackpad is worth it by itself. If someone sat me down in front of the new one and the old one and asked me to choose, I'd choose the new one every time, even if it had had half the storage (because of the workaround I described).

As a traveling programmer, light gamer, and part time student it's probably my ultimate laptop. I can take it out in a coffee shop and not get stares and then game in my hotel room on a TV.

I can flip the screen around to get a nice drawing pad to map out my work. When I'm at my office I have a surface dock that lets me hook up two extra displays. Theres plenty of IO and also has expandable storage. The keyboard is much nicer than any Macbook atm as well.

Here's a must have for any Book owner.

The only downside is dont upgrade to 1903 just yet as microsoft still hasn't patched the GPU bug. Other than that I think it ticks all of the boxes.

Ok, so I figured out a damn too easy way to solve this in case anyone gets this same error or just weird behaviour as I had...

How to solve this? I reinstalled Sierra on top of my Sierra...

Yes. All that overthinking and extra engineered solutions in Terminal and just a few clicks away was the solution... I downloaded the Sierra install, went thru it and after it spent like 30 minutes or so installing, everything was just working perfect. Icons fixed, GetInfo permitted to change default program without going to beachball and the recovery partition got recreated.
One error I had is that I have a BASEQI Aluminum microSD Adapter for MacBook with a 256GB microSD card that was holding some samples and plugins. When I went to verify that it had the contents wiped out but I just launched the plugin downloader and it is re-downloading those libraries in the same installation path (no need to redo the path, it was there).

So if you get errors in macOS, specially after a migration/clone to a new bigger SSD or similar, just reinstall the same macOS you have (if you want to keep that same OS) once you are in your new drive. When you do this, unplug any other mass storage device just in case macOS decides to wipe it out.

You can't upgrade the RAM in a 2013 retina MBP, it's soldiered on. You should probably find one with 8GB. Some companies make SD Card adapters for MicroSD Cards specifically meant to add permanent storage to the MacBook Pro without the SD card sticking out. I'm using one with a MicroSD card and it works great and looks likes it's built into the MacBook. I keep Starcraft 2, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Unity, and other heavy duty apps on the MicroSD card and have had no issues with performance whatsoever.

The OWC ones work well when they work. I've installed maybe 7 or 8 of them and had 1 failure after a few months. I've heard from other people who have installed many more that defect ratio is accurate. They have a good warranty policy if you bought direct from them, but it's a hassle and you really need to make sure you are diligent with keeping Time Machine backed up because when SSDs go, unlike hard drives, they are usually completely unrecoverable. There is no need to enable TRIM, since these drives have TRIM enabled by default.

It may not be the solution you're looking for but you can augment your internal storage with a short SD card that doesn't stick out of the side of your computer. Just make sure you get the one that is made for your specific model of MacBook Pro because different years and screen sizes stick out different amounts. http://amzn.to/2shUP1D and make sure you update your Time Machine settings to include this additional drive.

I also bought the HDE two pack. My experience has been:

Buy 2TB WD Blue drive. This works and locked successfully, after I got through the adapter issues below, on a 1.1 Xbox.

HEXIN - Freezes drive security (can't lock/unlock), and Chimp can't see it. Might work with an external USB enclosure, but I don't have one to test with. Works fine after you get the drive locked, though I had to use the 40-pin IDE cables for some reason, otherwise I get Error 13.

Startech - Chimp saw this, so I was able to clone my existing drive and lock it, but it refused to start, giving me Error 07 with both the 40- and 80-pin cables.

HDE - Bought these after the Startech didn't work. I don't know if they freeze the drive security like the HEXIN did, but they also give me Error 07 with both cables when trying to start the Xbox.

So to summarize, I had to use the Startech adapter to clone and lock it, and the HEXIN adapter with the 40-pin cable to have it boot.

Also this is the comment someone else referenced containing the link to HDE. Since the Ebay page doesn't exist anymore, people buy the HDE adapters.

You could upgrade it by an SD card like I did. Jetdrive by transcend has a good price on theirs. They even have a 256 option now. I have no problems with it. I just put my big files on there like Photos library etc.

I have seen reports of a CF to SD working on most camera, I have one coming from Amazon im going to throw in my 7d. The only issue I would forsee is the 64gb wall in a few scenarios like firmware upgrades.

The 7D is indeed CF only.

I've had the SB2 i5 128GB for 6 months (love it) and am still sitting pretty with 70GB left. I have used this one and I know others have as well and reported it works for Dell servers. Presumably that silverstone would work just fine. It shouldn't be hard to make these since NVMe is using PCIe, so all it should be is just a hardware adapter/passthrough.

Plays great, I have no problem with minecraft, on the mac and windows side.

I have this memory card adapter with 32+64GB SD cards.

The regular charger and Sony battery that comes with the PSP should be good enough. Most batteries you find are aftermarket junk and lots of people have bad luck with them.

I also have one of these coming in the mail soon. It fits 2000 and 3000 models only.

Here's one for $6 with free shipping on Amazon Prime. It only takes one micro SD card, but that should be all you need based on your post.

I have this $8 one that uses two micro SD cards, but I haven't come anywhere close to actually needing the second card (I think I've used about 8 GB and have two 64 GB cards in it).

These cards can sometimes be cheaply made and fall apart, but if you're not switching it in and out all the time, that shouldn't really matter much.

If you have open pcie slots you can get an adapter to run nvme through a slot. The nvme interface on the motherboard is just a special pcie connector.
