Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later

1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)

Sure! I just made them up so there aren't instructions, but here's what I used and what I did. My wedding colors are magenta pink and gold, with pops of teal blue (Indian - we like lots of colors :)) Also, now that I've written this all out I realize it's a lot of DIY - I'm super into crafting and it relaxes me (especially during the stress of wedding planning) so it's all good ... but if DIY stresses you out or if you are pressed for time this might be a bit much.

  1. Got 450 pure white note cards from Paper Source in the 4 bar size (which is 3 1/2" x 4 7/8"): notecard link

  2. Used the paper source PEGz stackable letter set to stamp "TOMORROW" in teal on 150 cards, "IN ONE YEAR" in gold on 150 cards and "IN FIVE YEARS" in magenta on 150 cards (these are inside the envelopes that are shown, I'll try to add a picture): stamp link ... I did have to buy two sets of these to have enough letters but my best friend loves crafts too so I'm happy to give one to her after I'm done; and I had the stamp inks already

  3. Ordered 150 each of the A1 invitation envelopes from envelopes.com (3 5/8" x 5 x 1/8") in champagne metallic, gold metallic and azalea metallic: envelopes link

  4. I then stamped the envelopes to match the cards using the same stamp set, but also with colors that were most visible - "TOMORROW" in teal on the champagne colored envelopes, "IN ONE YEAR" in black on the gold envelopes and "IN FIVE YEARS" in white on the azalea colored envelopes. I then stuffed the respective note cards into the corresponding envelopes and that part was done.

  5. For the little pocket I used paper source's #10 envelopes (4 1/8" x 9 1/2") in peacock. I needed each of the pockets to be 3.5" tall and so glued down the open flap on the open end of the envelope and then measured up 3.5" from each end and made a straight cut. This gave me two "pockets", closed at the bottom, 4 1/8" wide and 3" tall: pocket envelope link

  6. I designed the white rectangle to go on the front of the pocket in illustrator (I'll call them "pocket labels"). I used the fonts "Stylish Calligraphy Demo" for the "love notes" header, "Snell Roundhand" for the line below "for myname and fiancename" and then "Marion" for the rest of it. I made a super light grey rectangle that was 3" tall and 3.5" wide as cutting guides for after I printed things out - this would leave ~1/4" border of the teal on each side once I pasted these onto the pockets

  7. I printed out the pocket labels on 8.5" x 11" cardstock in pure white from paper source. I was able to fit six pocket labels onto one sheet. CRITICAL to being able to do the gold foil in the coming steps is printing on a laser printer, it will not work if you print on inkjet. cardstock link

  8. I ordered a laminator and a roll of gold foil from Amazon to do the top of the pocket label in shiny gold (the poor woman's version). The laminator was $18 and a 25ft roll of gold foil (way more than I'll need but I'll use it later) was $20. laminator link gold foil link

  9. I cut out each of the pocket labels and got to doing the gold foil. The basic idea is that when you put the gold foil on top of the pocket label and then run it through the laminator the ink re-melts and the gold foil sticks to it (which is why you need to use a laser printer). You also want to make sure you don't put gold foil over any ink where you don't want it to stick (duh, I know, but I have made this mistake).

  10. I cut out a little piece of gold foil - just big enough to cover the first two cursive lines of text in the pocket label, but not any bigger so it didn't touch the border, any other text, etc. I placed the foil gold side up over the cursive text and then put the two into a folded piece of regular printer paper. I ran that through the laminator (at the highest heat setting, mine is 5mm) and then when I took it out and peeled off the gold foil it was only stuck on the cursive font.

  11. I used double sided tape to attach the pocket label (white) to the pocket (teal) and inserted the three envelopes (champagne, gold, azalea) that have the notecards inside of them. I'll probably add a menu late in the game and then either a ribbon or paper band with our monogram to hold it all together but that is TBD and won't happen for a while.

Phew, that was a lot, I hope it was helpful! Let me know if you have questions and obviously PLEASE share your pictures if you make it too!

Ok - There are so many ways you could go here! Links as examples only. You can get this stuff anywhere.

To decorate cards/ envelopes she has purchased, your best bet is WASHI TAPE. Washi tape is a paper tape that is removable but also sticks really well. It's relatively affordable and comes in tons of different designs. A large number of people active on this sub have an unhealthy beautiful obsession with washi tape. Themed sticker sets like this or this are also great to add decor to cards. You can always find something in her style.

If you want to start her off on making her own cards, you can still start with washi and stickers. You can also add in some blank cards that she can use as a base (Not this set though, it's too pricey for what you get) or maybe some patterned paper or heavy cardstock.

Hope that helps start you off right! Always happy to answer any questions :)

Ugh, there's nothing worse than having great line art for coloring be ruined by shitty quality paper.

>I'm too lazy to copy everything to better paper

Doing this actually isn't that difficult! The best paper I've found for printing line art on to is the Springhill, Digital Vellum Cover White, 80lb paper. (There are some better quality papers that are specifically for colored pencils, but they don't come in reams (they're in spiral-bound notebooks with perforated pages) and they have to be trimmed down to 8.5" x 11".) It has a really great weight, and the paper has a lot of tooth for the colored pencil pigments. Through trial and error, I found that the tooth is the single biggest determination of how well colored pencils will work on it. Little-to-no tooth means that the colored pencil pigment won't really "stick" to the paper very will and, as more is added, will just begin to smear around instead of blending nicely.

Once you have your ream of Springhill Digital Vellum (or whatever paper you choose to use), you can take your coloring book to someplace like FedEx/Kinkos or whatever copying store of your choice. Hand them the coloring book and tell them you'd like them to cut off the spine of the book. (Note: their company policy prevents them from copying copyrighted materials, even if you are doing it for purposes which fall under "fair use" protections... which I would argue that this is). I believe they'll charge you like $1.50 or something per cut, but it makes the whole process a lot easier.

Then you can take your pages over the self-service printers, load your Springhill paper into the side tray, throw the pages in the document feeder, and then hit the "Copy" button. You'll probably be in and out of there in 15 minutes and you'll have the entire book reprinted on nice paper for maybe less than $10 (not counting the cost of the ream of Springhill).

I did this, myself, a couple of times after getting books with great art but shit paper. It's absolutely worth doing it. Later, I ended up getting a better printer at home that has an automatic feed document scanner and just reprint the art at home.

u/Zaphy1415926 · 2 pointsr/MLPLounge

Were they all on the same paper? I think I might have used some spare bristol for one of them maybe, but if they're all the same then I used this exact ream :D I also have a ream of non-cover Hammermill (28 lb I believe) that also works well, it just bleeds through more since it's thinner. Not that there's any paper out there that doesn't bleed through, you always need scratch paper underneath haha. I liked how this brand accepts ink so much that I actually called Hammermill and told a representative how much I liked it lol.

Over the last month I've found that the Copic XPress It blending cards do work better with marker (I've got mostly Prismas and some Copics, and a couple W&N) than the Hammermill especially for blending, it's just so very much cheaper to order 250 sheets of paper that doesn't allow for much blending than to order 20 sheets for the same price. Plus it works fine for straight washes and layering, which is what I mostly use. And it's just an absolute dream for inking.

I haven't tried any other papers (beyond other varieties of xerox paper) but here is a very in-depth review on several of the most recommended papers out there for markers, if you're curious about other brands!

I decided keep the linked album short and simple, so here are some more photos of each design. Some of the photos may seems repetitive or unnecessary, but I figured someone might enjoy them!

Geometric web and floral design

Glow in the dark

Bonus! Side effect of handling the glow paper. (space fingers!)

Both of them have their flaws. The last tetrahedron didn't seem to want to fit quite as well, so it got a bit squished or bent in both of them. The web/floral design was my first attempt and I think it actually came out better. The glow in the dark looks kind of sloppy in normal lighting, but the point was to look good in the dark and I think it works alright for that.

Here are links for the paper used:

Geometric web and floral pattern: Japanese site and US site

Glow in the dark: Japanese site and US site, different but similar

These were really fun to make! It wasn't as hard as I expected after reading comments from those who had made them before. Definitely going on my "favorites" list and I'll try at least a couple of ideas for colors and patterns.

Hopefully the trials and tribulations I've gone through will help you out in this setup. If do or are planning on making a lot of items that will need to be embossed or have a foil stamp put on them I would advise to getting a specific press for this. It may cost more but it will be much more effective, less time consuming and most of all far less error prone. Nothing worse than making a great item and them it all going to hell when you mess up the press action. I've done this before with my setup.

At present I use a heat gun that has heat control on it. Found mine at home depot in the paint section. The press I use is an arbor press I found on Amazon that has a flat press attachment I found on etsy. I use the flat press attachment for use with my clicker dies. I'm primarily pressing my logo into items with my setup.

As for the foil, I found my stuff (Silver and Gold) on Amazon as well. Here is what I use,
https://www.amazon.com/400ft-Rolls-silver-KINGSLEY-HOWARDBW88-100E200E/dp/B010C2DI1S/ref=pd_sim_229_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B010C2DI1S&pd_rd_r=ead3c1b3-b2b9-11e8-b9b0-b9c4745829eb&pd_rd_w=1hXze&pd_rd_wg=QZ52C&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=S29ZDWW74S4XYT7MEEBR&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=S29ZDWW74S4XYT7MEEBR

I think its good to mention that depending on the stamp design you could trap some of the foil within the stamp and due to the heat and tension being pushed down onto the stamp and foil you could cause more of the foil to bond to the leather. So you will not only get colored lettering that you want but the foil will bond to the leather around the lettering. Hopefully that made sense.

As I searched for the foil I use I came across this machine. I'm thinking of getting it.

I hope this info helps.

Good luck.

Well, now that I'm in Hawaii, it's like summer 24/7, but when I lived on the mainland, my favorite thing was always going to the lake with my friends. Swimming is one of my very favorite things to do, second only to hiking. Unfortunately, Tennessee gets too hot for long hikes in the middle of the summer, so that's more of a spring/fall thing for me.

I would love to have this origami paper off my default wishlist!! :D

Congrats on the wedding!

My wife and I actually decided against labeling the bottles for our wedding. I understand there may be some hesitation to do it this way, but we had coozies available for our guests, so they weren't walking around with just plain brown bottles. We had our bartender set up a display of available drinks (5 beers, 3 wines) in an ice bucket, and the homebrews were labeled with brown hang tags over the neck. (https://www.amazon.com/KINGLAKE-Christmas-Vintage-Wedding-Retangle/dp/B00WHXQHVE/ref=pd_lpo_229_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=PJEEBSGQ79A4VXR4CJMN). Bottlecaps were marked for the bartender. Additionally, my wife hand-wrote and framed a menu with descriptions that was displayed at the bar.

Fortunately, my wife is crafty and was able to make everything look really good. Our wedding was also at a farm - if your venue is nicer, doing your bottles this way may look out of place.

By the way, I really enjoyed brewing for our wedding. It will definitely be a big project, but it's worth it.

Good idea!! I had searched them a few days ago but didn't find anything. I just did another search after your comment and came up with this, this and this. I guess those gift bags are cute enough and they're definitely big enough to hold everything. And the wine bags are adorable!!

Agar agar powder. [US](https://www.amazon.com/Telephone-Product-Thailand-Powder-Ounce/dp/B01KMHY2OU/) [Europe](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Special-Ingredients-Premium-Gelatine-European/dp/B00EZMPMNE)

Always start with agar! And don't throw old fully colonized plates out. Some contaminants (e.g. mycogone, AKA wet bubble disease will only show up after full colonization (white blobs oozing yellow/orange fluid). and that one (mycogone) will fck up your grow hard, been there done that...

Also if you are in North America there are Glad mini rounds, they are used in the original Pasty Plate tek. They also have [430ml jars](https://www.flaschenbauer.de/einmachglaeser/sturzglaeser/sturzglas-430-ml-to-82) suitable as substrate containers

A pressure cooker. Good ones are a b**ch to find in Europe. I wouldn't buy [that one](https://www.ebay.de/itm/Pressure-cooker-17L-Stainless-steel-Made-In-Turkey-Largest-Size/133128864948) or similar constructed ones, they are complete s**t, build up next to no pressure and need ungodly amounts of water. I have two of them, but had to do some haphazard MacGyveresqe hacking to get them to sterilize properly, I'll bring that up later.

I also have a Fagor Alu 22 (22 liters, fits eleven quart bottles), but I think that model went out of production in 2017 without a replacement. IMHO the only sane option in Europe right now, would be to order a Presto from the US, they're ~80€ + 40€ shipping, so not that bad. [Presto 23 quart PC](https://www.amazon.com/Presto-Aluminum-23-Quart-Pressure-Canner/dp/B073NCFL2L/)

Also on US websites like shroomery, you'll always read something like "sterilize 90min @ 15 psi". Pressure cookers in Europe usually have no gauges and only go to 50-70 kPa (~7-10 psi). It isn't as bad as it sounds, since sterilization time isn't linear with pressure/temperature. I've found I can get away with 120 min sterilization time for grains, 75 min for PF sub and 30 min for agar.

A slightly wet towel to put the SAB on. Some people disagree on this, I use the towel to absorb the sprayed soap/water mix and not having that run off the table.

A clear box that's modified as a SAB. I use this one as a SAB, maybe they ship outside Germany. Methinks this skeletonized leaf is actually artificial. Not in the sense that the leaf is fake, but that the actual skeletonization was done artificially. You can buy whole packs of skeletonized leaves for craft projects for pretty cheap.

The reason why I think this is that naturally skeletonized leaves rarely end up being this perfect. Skeletonization is a result of organisms eating the leaf tissue, whether it be insects or bacteria (if the leaf is sitting in water). Almost always, there are bits of leaf tissue left over.

I can't imagine a normal condition in an indoor area that would cause a leaf to skeletonize like this and in such a perfect way. I think that maybe this leaf was part of some sort of craft project or gift or something, and it just happened to fall off and OP picked it up.

Source: Good friend is a botanist and is sort of nuts about this sort of thing.

u/ShockerKhan2N1 · 2 pointsr/cricut

Thank you :) I can't take credit for the actual designs, I just made them cuttable and put them on the dresser.

To layer different colors, I use transfer tape that has a paper backing like this and after applying the first layer, I pick up the next layer but don't remove the paper backing all the way. I put the paper layer back under the vinyl then line it up on top of the first layer (the paper is in between the 2 layers at this point). Once I have it lined up, I fold a corner of the paper back and stick it down then hold that corner in place while grabbing the paper from underneath. I slowly pull the paper making sure the corner doesn't move and smooth down the 2nd layer as I pull the paper away from between the 2 layers.

I hope that made sense. :)

u/LordGuinn · 2 pointsr/sketchbooks

I prefer smooth, thick paper as well, which is why I used card stock the first time(my main medium is pen/ink). I wanted to be able to use a bit of watercolor and ink washes in my sketchbook though, and card stock doesn't hold up well with those mediums, despite its thickness. Also, a lot of the card stock I've seen has this strange... shininess to it? It's also hard to find it in ivory or cream colors, which are warmer and easy on my eyes.

That being said, I still have no problem using it. I've just been on the quest for/fantasizing about the perfect paper for so long(such is the life of an artist). Ideally, it would be something similar to Moleskine's paper, since it is the perfect color, soft, smooth texture, not too thick but thick enough to not show through, and somehow still supports wet media without much of an issue at all.

I found out that it is 120gsm FSC paper in ivory, and I think that yesterday I finally found a match. It's pretty cheap, too($6.32/100 sheets), and I can't wait to try it soon.

I love the way that glassine looks when exposed to light. It comes in many colors and is pretty cheap.

How bright is your bulb and what kind is it? Are you going to build the light cover as a stand alone or to slip it over the glass dome? Some bulbs will benefit more with more diffusion than others. Still, I would not underestimate just how much dimmer regular paper can make a light.

There are kits with similar ideas out there already.

If you want to make it yourself out of paper, I would strongly recommend cheating. Use paste or tape or maybe even a wire support structure. This is especially important when you consider the shape of your lampshade. You will need a way to attach it to your lamp. Many traditional modular modals stay together based on a combination of friction and locks, and work best when the tension of the paper is evenly distributed. Glassine in particular is very slippery. If you start with a spherical model and have to leave a space for the entry point of the bulb or have to keep the model pulled apart slightly, it will be much less stable. Something like PHiZZ units might be a good place to start, but you probably won't get opaque coverage with them. I'm sure other will be able to give you recommendations.

Paper can also react in different ways when constantly exposed to light and go more brittle or change color. You probably don't want to accidentally bump your lamp and have it fall apart into pieces, you know?

I like using these to fold cranes. They're super cheap (and super small!) but fun to fold and easy to carry. I was able to buy them in a shop in LA for about a buck-fifty, so I grabbed a few packs before I left. I may never run out!

A total of 7 separate orders. It was a bit annoying because I was mostly on my phone and the mobile apps/chrome wouldn't load properly. Also I would have preferred to bundle orders but oh well. or try to use more coupons but they only give you so many minutes in the cart and sometimes the next item that you're waiting for a deal to start is right outside that window.

I got my paper from Amazon. They sell them in large rolls. I just cut a large sheet out and then cut it into a square. https://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-Kraft-200-ft-Flame-0063064/dp/B0062TMTXE/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=rainbow+kraft+paper+roll+flame&qid=1564600017&s=gateway&sr=8-4

If you plan on getting it in another color, make sure the title says "rainbow kraft". Other rolls with the title "Artkraft" or "RUSPEPA" are rolls I haven't purchased before, I never tested them and I heard their paper is too thick. Rainbow kraft paper rolls, however, are very thin and durable, perfect for super complex origami. I have tried out paper from origami shop but their paper is too expensive and takes forever to ship out. This is honestly the perfect paper for origami and it's very cheap for a gigantic roll 48ft by 200ft.
