PLEASE DO NOT BUY A CAGE! No cage is big enough for a rabbit, not to mention for a Flemish Giant!!!!
And if she is in cage now - not free roam with a cage being just her home-base, but actually in a cage you need to cage it ASAP!!!!
A bunny needs at least 4 by 2 ft of free run space in its enclosure; to that add space taken up by the litter tray, hidy house, and hay feeder, so literally NONE of the store-bought cages would ever be good for a bunny (even if advertised as such)! Bunnies need lots of space, attention and exercise. They are much happier and healthier when the have space to run around. Also a bunny will need at least two hours every day to explore outside of his enclosure to stay happy. Initially you can supervise, but as the bunny is litter trained less supervision will be required.

Try some ideas below:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MU2F556/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - fantastic xpen that will be larger and work for bunnies who are jumpers and like to escape
https://www.amazon.com/MidWest-Foldable-Metal-Exercise-Playpen/dp/B000H8YTJI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549491467&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=xpen&psc=1 - another great xpen, which is cheaper but not as tall and also smaler
Or you could try this dog crate which would be even easier (be sure to get XXL) https://www.chewy.com/midwest-solutions-series-xx-large/dp/102274
If you have room you could even attach the xpen to the dog crate like this using zipties and put the litter box and hay feeder in there plus hidy house, and he will have the xpen to run in which would be awesome...
Or use NIC grids like this https://www.amazon.com/LANGRIA-Storage-Shelving-Organization-Bookcase/dp/B06XR3PMXK?ref_=w_bl_hsx_s_ho_web_13643573011. It would be quite easy actually... see this video on how to build a cage with them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzS82KZ7ADo

For flooring:
You can use a thick plastic tablecloth - you'll put this on the floor beneath the pen. It will be easy to clean, and protects your carpet from pee/droppings just in case. Over the tablecloth you will place a thick blanket that the bun can run on. Anchor outside pen edges so the bun can't dig it up. You can wash the blanket and wipe the plastic under it. You bun is happy and floor is safe.
Also try this indoor/outdoor rug - it is easy to clean, inexpensive, and due to a tight weave hard to chew.

Congrats on the new fluffbutt! <3 As a long term chinchilla owner they're wonderful lil guys, but like someone else on here already said, they do like to do stuff on their own terms (when they want to play/etc). I live in a condo now and unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of places that they run around freely (bc of electrical chords) so I got them (I have two currently) a play pen designed for puppies! They both really enjoy it and since it's pretty large/the zipper top and bottom are machine washable it works out really well. As long as they have a lot of toys in there to play with the little one should be fine! Since it's large enough for a person to sit comfortably inside it is also a great way for your fluff to get used to you at their own pace. (Also might I suggest rose hips as treat? They're very high in Vit C and are a much healthier treat than raisins)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0154M1VWE/ref=sr_ph_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487798291&sr=sr-1&keywords=puppy+playpen
HELLO OP! It could be a combo between her not knowing and the snow? Potty training isn't something that is learned over night - It takes a couple months, especially since your pup is only 11 weeks. She can barely hold her little bladder for 2 hours rn.
You should use the bell method. Works wonders and Heelers are so smart that she may even pick up hitting the bell in 2-3 days.
We purchased this one : https://www.amazon.com/Zacro-Doorbells-Training-Housebreaking-Dispenser/dp/B01LXBX7X7/ref=sr_1_6?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1518472123&sr=1-6&keywords=dog+training+bells&dpID=411jpOf3otL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Buy a dog bell from amazon. You'll need to train her to hit the bell first. Get her acclimated to being around the bell, let her lay on it, play with it, eat around it etc. Rewarding with her favorite treats when she successfully hits the bell with nose/paw when its in your hand, then slowly move it to the door. After that, connect the bell to every time she has to go to potty break. Use a phrase that will be easy for her to remember like "bell" so that she can hit it on command. Also, while walking her to go potty you should associate "let'S go potty". Repeating that so that its a familiar phrase and when she finally does go potty YOU PRAISE THAT LITTLE PUPPERS LIKE CRAZY. IM TALKING FULL ON DANCE PARTY PARADE WITH CONFETI, HOLLERING, BALLOONS AND TREATS.
I'm in Chicago so i understand your snow issue. I would shovel a good portion of snow to where she can go potty comfortably as she is so young. Take her to that spot or walk around for a good amount of time. Its not easy potty training but the reward is the best!
Our heeler is 6 months and we've only had accidents in the beginning of training her and in the middle of the night to where we're passed out and don't hear the bell. Only has happens a handful of times. Other than that, we have 0 issues. She will be snotty and hit the bell numerous of times tho to just go play outside after being taken already but that's her being a brat lol. I can tell when she really needs to go because she will look at me dead in the face and make a loud breathe followed by a bark lol. Shes the cutest.
Any ways, if you need any more tips, feel free to PM me!
This is the guide that I used to great success: https://www.midwestigrescue.com/ig-training-help/house-training-your-ig/
The main thing is treat motivating your pup with REALLY GOOD TREATS (like cooked meat or bacon to get started--Gooberlicious and BilJack MiniJacks are what we use now.) and taking the treat out with you and immediately rewarding them when they go, along with praise and attention cues. Here's also where you train "go potty".
It's also super important to remove and neutralize ALL smells from indoors, this may mean an thorough and intense deep carpet clean. E.g. soaking some areas with "Nature's Miracle" and letting them thoroughly dry over a few days. Vinegar and baking soda stain lifting. Shampooing with a solution of Dawn dishwashing liquid and thoroughly rinsing the area. There should be zero ammonia scent for your IG to home in on.
We used crate/tether method as well as getting our dog to "mark" on our other dog's pee or our neighbor dogs' pee. We also have a door hanger bell and he rings it when he wants to go outside, that too is something to treat train. E.g. https://www.amazon.com/PoochieBells-Housetraining-Doorbell-Potty-Communicate-WithYourDog/dp/B0016ZP4B8 We also have our cycles down regarding how frequently our IG should go.
It wasn't easy (at all), but with consistency and not giving up it's totally doable (and well worth the time invested). Good luck.
Edit: Forgot one detail: we got dog potty-training pants from Sighthound Specialties. You can get the liners for them from PetSmart. While tethered or sleeping or even in his room he wore his "pants".
If you have a little cash, go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a couple rolls of this rug/carpet stuff. Looks kinda like what you might have by the pedals in your car, except black and rubber on bottom. Really cheap. I think in the flooring area, but forget where exactly we got them.
Then on Amazon buy one of these http://www.amazon.com/Pet-Trex-Premium-Quality-Exercise/dp/B0052HH5UE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377990277&sr=8-4&keywords=pet+pen
My wife and I have been through this all before. Couple very happy rabbits at our (not totally destroyed) house. PM me any questions you might have if you ever have any. I love rabbits and love helping people give them the best care they can.
While dogs notoriously like dens (small spaces) and feel safe in them, I would have to imagine that just for general safety and visibility, it would be best to not put the dog under the bed. Puppies do really stupid things (like eat carpet/dust bunnies/cloth/whatever) and it would be best if the dog was in your sight. The idea of a pen is a great one though!! This is really commonly used, and the typically name you'll hear it called is an "Ex-pen" or exercise pen. These are actually so common, they're available on amazon!. If you can make one yourself, they are a really great way to make sure your puppy is safe when you cant watch them.
He wont need a lot of space since he is so small, so between your bed and a wall may work just fine. Its great you are so handy to be able to build this, they really mark them up.
One of our dogs, Daphne, is the same. We have a sliding glass door and bought [one of these](http://www.PetSafe.com/ Freedom Aluminum... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PB5FPI?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf).
It took a little training, but it's great. One of our dogs loves the freedom and will go lay in the sun for long stretches of time. Daphne often only goes out if one of us goes out with her. Especially when it comes to peeing. Dogs are great (cats too). :)
Congrats on the new golden :) Our golden is 5 months old now and the time is flying by! Take lots of pictures - they grow up crazy fast and lose the rolly-polly puppyness pretty quickly.
But to answer your question, we got:
We didn't get a dog bed for a few months because every time we put a blanket or whatever in her crate, she'd pull it out and then sleep on the smooth floor of the crate. We did get some small rubber door mats to place at strategic areas (in the kitchen and near the dining room table) so when we were cooking we could say "go to your mat" and she'd go lay down on the mat and stay out of the way (obviously this required treats to reinforce, but now when we start prepping food she automatically goes to the mat).
But I'd say the key was the exercise pen. It allowed her to not be stuck in her crate while we were at work, but was adjustable as we wanted to allow her more freedom during housetraining. Eventually we progressed from the small area attached to the crate to just blocking off the kitchen from the rest of the house, and now we only use it once in a while. Prevented a lot of frustration.
Good luck! I'm so glad we got a golden retriever - she was an adorable puppy and is pretty well behaved at 5 months. It's all about consistency and positive reinforcement training.
Also puppy proof your house - we've lost 2 phone chargers so far to those teeth, and a pair of eyeglasses.
Have you considered getting a larger play pen as opposed to a kennel, like this or something? I know people do kennel dogs for that long regularly, but I didn't like to with mine at least once they were old enough to trust through the night.
Also, are you looking at a puppy, or potentially an adult rescue? With your schedule, an adult would be a better fit I think.
Edit - Also, every dog is different. My ACD is more than happy to be lazy and nap through ~80% of the daytime, as long as she gets some good solid play for the other 20%. My Border Collie is another story... I think he would play until he was no longer physically able to move if I let him
He should be fine. He might be a little skittish after this ordeal, but you are a first-time rat owner, and you guys are just getting acquainted. The occasional setback is a pretty normal occurrence. Just go slowly, and move at his pace, rather than yours.
Is there a way you could relax a bit while interacting with him? Something that would allow you to sit down, while also giving him a little bit of room to retreat from you? Bathtubs and tabletops are good, and some people find that bathroom floors work well, too. Give him a box or tunnel within this small space, so that he can hide, but encourage him to interact with you.
Another option would be to use a playpen with walls tall enough that he can't jump out, and steep enough that he can't climb them. And it should be big enough for you to sit in there with him. Something like this.
If a pro does the installation, they typically do all of it themselves. Digging, setting posts, cleanup, everything. BUT, if the ground is frozen, good luck finding one that will do it. Most in my country (US), won’t. Maybe they’re different up there?
As for a temporary solution for your pup, if you can’t get it done in time, try garden fencing. You drive stakes into the ground, and it can be pretty secure. Another option is something like this it’s also portable if y’all travel a lot. I hope this helps!
First off, thanks for fostering. It’s one of the hardest, and most rewarding things I’ve ever done. You will get your heart broken, and each animal will take a piece of your heart with them, but it’s so amazingly worth it.
Couple things. First, read about The Two Week Shut Down, it’s a thing and it’s real. The animal you pick up will often be extremely different from the animal you will have in your home 2 weeks later.
Second, get this door doohickey and install it somewhere to give the cats a safe space where dogs won’t go. Put their food, water, boxes in there and create a safe space. If they’re not used to dogs, plug in a feliway diffuser too.
Good luck!
Something like this is what you’re looking for. However, I don’t know if it’s international shipping :/
This is called an xpen, and it’s a lot better than a cage. Since rabbits can only exercise by running, xpens are the best option \o/
For general advice, there are links in the sidebar of this subreddit. Lots of people come with similar questions, so these are perfect for you :D I’ll put some of them here too: toys, new owner guide, housing, diet, spay/neuter
If you’re in a country that doesn’t have good rabbit supplies, try joining the r/rabbits discord to work with someone one-on-one. It’s easier to tackle more complicated problems that way :P Edit: I’m pretty certain that Lu and Syl in the discord are Polish!
Congratulations on getting a rabbit!
That's gonna be a handful, but I'm sure they can handle it! I highly recommend purchasing something like this playpen so that when they start being more mobile, they can stay out of trouble and the mom can get some rest when she doesn't want to be near them. Also, using an old tablet with google hangouts running pointed on the puppers is good, so that they can be checked on when your friends are away. If their vet thinks they can do it, I'm sure they can and will have a very rewarding experience.
You might want to consider buying an x-pen for when you leave your puppy at home. It will give her a little more room to roam (and you could control what goes into the x-pen) without needing to be leashed up. We left our puppy in his x-pen (for about the first 6 months of his life) when we would go to work during the day, and eventually he just learned to sleep while we were gone. Once we finally let him have free roam, we worked up in very small increments - like 20 minutes while we ran to the grocery store. We slowly built up the increments of time we left him, and eventually we were able to let him roam free by the time he was about 7 months old or so. Maybe we just got really lucky, because we're pretty sure he just sleeps by the door the whole time we're gone. But the x-pen is definitely a good option!
No offense, but this approach seems quite complicated. We achieved some great and lasting results teaching with a doggy door bell trigger, yummy treats and double-bagging belly bands.
Here's the bell we used $8, they also have different/electronic designs for about $30. Our high-value treat/reward was chicken hearts/gizzards about $1/lb, slow cook for 30 mins on med and chop pieces to appropriate treat size. 1 lb lasts about a week in the fridge and the dog. As for bell bands, we just doubled up. Sighthound specialties has some thick fleece bands $10? and two of them are thick enough to catch everything if needed but not too encumbering on the hound. Kept those on while training and just rewarded bell and going outside with treats.
Training totally stuck. Hope this helps.
I use mine exclusively indoors. It has been jumped on but not body slammed. A door or a tall sturdy gate will be stronger, but xpens usually work okay. For the most part dogs don't try frantically to escape from them like they do crates because there's enough room to allow sleep/play and feel less restrictive. I usually use mine stretched out like a long zig zag fence between two rooms where there isn't a narrow doorway to shut off.
editing to add: I usually use the regular old Precision or Midwest wire xpens, but there are more sturdy ones available. one example. I haven't used that personally, just sharing that that sort of thing exists.
Good luck with your lovely bunny! We got this 2 story hutch at Amazon and connected two play pens with s-hooks for our bunnies. It's really nice and not expensive - free shipping with prime too.

We found a rug at a yard sale and my daughter and I made a bunny maze for them out of an Amazon box that a shipment of their food and litter came in:

Have fun decorating her new home!
I use this for play time with my rats. I can't deal with trying to make sure they don't destroy my room.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002Y1OZE/
Or if not I will setup on the bed and just let them run on the bed.
I understand your feelings and maybe pet ownership is not something for you right now. If you do decide you don't want them anymore make sure to take them to a shelter or rescue so they can be re-homed, sometimes giving them up is the kindest thing you can do if that's just where you are at.
Sometimes I have to look at my pet ownership as service to the animal, and I wont' always get what I want out of it but I if I can ensure my rats have a happy life that's something to feel good about.
Rubbing chin means she likes you. :)
Please get her fixed! It is very important for her health and behaviors.
Take a look at the link below to help you interpret various bunny language:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ruK6AXVLhiM
Also, if she’s in a store bought cage, maybe consider enlarging her space to allow for binkies and other behaviors :) an Xpen is the minimum size a rabbit should live in, those back legs are long and need space!: this is an example

Could you get a pen as a temporary fix? There are even larger ones too.
Insecure dogs want to pee on the bed because the bed smells like you and they want to add their scent to yours (that's what I was told when I had a dog that would pee on the bed years ago). I tried everything that I could think of, including not letting her have unsupervised access to the bed (but she would still pee on it right in front of me). It got so bad with her that I could not let her into the bedroom any more (I ended up buying a new mattress set and there was no way she was going to have access to it). But hopefully your dog will return to normal once she feels secure in your yard. It seems that she should since she was doing alright before.
I'd focus on making a safe space for her outside with pens if possible. Of course if she is small and you have coyotes or other predators I wouldn't leave her unsupervised out there. But I also wouldn't leave a large dog unsupervised in one of those pens because I don't think they're very secure. I'd at least be peeking out a window. If setting up a pen isn't possible then I'd line the bathroom with potty pads and close her in there until she pees on one (remember to close the toilet and make sure medications are safely put away where they cant get to them). It's going backwards in potty training and I'm sure I'll get downvoted for it but it's better than peeing on the bed. I had another dog that had major surgery and while he was recovering he couldn't get in or out and that's what I did, I put potty pads in the bathroom. I had noticed that he went in there and peed once when he couldn't get to the door (I think because he knew that's where we go) so that's why I chose to put the potty pads in there. It worked while he recovered, and then he returned to his normal potty training afterwards. So it's not the end of the world to regress a little if you have to.
Anyway, it sounds like you need to provide a safe-feeling space for her to go in.
Ok so I have one of these for my Chihuahua puppy and it is AMAZING. It's flexible so I can take it with me, the bottom and top zip out so you can wash them or use it outside or whatever. I'm not sure how big your puppy is, but this thing is a great size! You can fit a pee pad in there plus food/water bowls, toys and bed.

Could start by just containing them to a certain room at a certain area. We transitioned pretty early from a crate to one of these and then eventually just let our dog roam free and it all worked.
If you’re ever running out for like just an hour you could leave her and see how it works out. Build up confidence to leave her out for longer periods of time
What about something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Pebble-Smart-Doggie-Doorbell-Accent/dp/B00BBMEFCK It's not quite what you want, but maybe it can give you an idea of what to search for?
Edit: Even better, what about using one of these? https://www.amazon.com/Echo-Buttons-Pack-gaming-companion/dp/B072C4KCQH and then making a custom echo skill: https://developer.amazon.com/docs/gadget-skills/steps-to-build-echo-button-skill.html You'll need an echo close to the button and I'm not sure how it would work long term battery wise (and it seems like Alexa might have to wake up the button instead of the other way around but I didn't look too deeply at the docs), but I think it could be adapted to work for what you need. I'm kind of surprised someone hasn't done it already.
> "I have a corner litter box that I put some soiled bedding in, but they keep pooping all over the cage."
It basically looks like a slice of pie, it's supposed to go in the corner.
Thanks for all your information, I really want to do right by these rabbits. I'm actually considering something more along a playpen style for all day housing, but I'm not sure if that mat (with bedding on top of it) will be enough to protect my carpet (and if the cage will be enough to stop the bedding from just falling through it). I also don't want them to jump out of it.
Do you have any recommendations for a) getting them to use the litterbox and b) getting them to use the water bottle? Also, they seem to like emptying the food bowls and then filling the bowls with bedding...
My concern here is that you have a dog who has growled and snapped consistently, and you're still letting the children around her, without doing any training. This is setting the dog up to fail, and setting the children up to get hurt. Kids that little should never be around a dog unless it's completely handled and trained for small children prior to the meet. Until you have this under control, you need to keep them separated, except for 100% supervised, controlled sessions. Something like an indoor pen would be a great solution, so she can still be around the family, but safely contained.
I would really recommend seeing a professional trainer, who's dealt with aggressive dogs before. Even if you only see them once or twice, they'll be able to give you tips specifically for your dog and situation, and get you jump-started on a plan to handle this as soon as possible. This is the best way to keep an accident from happening.
yeah, i would because the kitten i'm assuming is much smaller in size. I would only have them together at short intervals and gradually increase that time. As with the pouncing– I put my kitten in one of these that I had: https://www.amazon.com/Parkland-Pet-Portable-Foldable-Removable/dp/B01B37WUXI/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=cat+tent&qid=1570908470&sr=8-5 with my cat outside and vice versa. This way their interaction was safer if the cat decided to swat the kitten. i also recommend watching "thecatdaddy"'s youtube video on cat introductions if you haven't already!
They’re very similar but the difference is they the metal bars are horizontal on the critter nation and vertical on the ferret nation. The horizontal bars allow the ferrets to climb up it which is not ideal and can potentially be dangerous.
The best playpen I’ve seen is from clearly loved pets but it is very expensive. I’ve used the ones you can buy on amazon that are like plastic rectangles that clip together. They don’t work and have killed other ferrets in the past. Mine learned how to push their heads through until the clips popped, it’s happened to other people that it crushed the ferrets neck though. I have this one now which isn’t exactly open and what I would like but it works for temporary situations Parkland Pet Portable Foldable Playpen Exercise Kennel Dogs Cats Indoor/Outdoor Removable Mesh Shade Cover, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7PHXR6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6iuIDbE8T3EQV
My frenchie puppy learned how to use bells for potty time. We got a super affordable training kit from amazon and the seller even provided instructions on how to use them: Zacro Set of 2 Dog Doorbells for Dog Training and Housebreaking Your Doggy DB022 Doorbells with One Clicker and One Dog Waste Bag Dispenser with 15 Count Bags
Good luck!
If it’s a sliding glass door at the back they make inserts for the mesh part that acts as a doggie door. Here’s one. As well as a cheaper one you can cut into the mesh directly, here. Hope these help :)

This is ours and we love it! we have two buns and they don't escape and it's easy to add/remove sides to make bigger or smaller pen. It's also big enough that if we can't let them roam one evening they don't miss out on much.
this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B37WUXI/ref=ya_st_dp_
That will be fine for containment when you are there to supervise but IMHO, any pup is going to quickly realize that he can chew right through it. It's not serious containment for when you are out of the house.
I'm slow in allowing my pups to have freedom when I'm not there. They start out in crates, then move on to wire x-pens (I have the 36" version of this: https://www.amazon.com/Homes-Pets-Foldable-Exercise-Pen/dp/B000H8YTJI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497193537&sr=8-1&keywords=x-pen ), and then the gated kitchen and finally the whole house.
My cat is super picky about litter boxes so I bought this door stop for when we have dog friends visiting so she can still do her business and they don't go into the litter box.
As far as cats with FIV or FeLV, I would talk to the shelter. I am not super familiar with either but I've had friends who've adopted cats with it (including their first cat) and it doesn't seem to be a big deal.
I'd suggest getting an exercise pen to put around the tree to keep it out of reach! You can get them pretty cheap, like this one on Amazon - ex pen
If you can get her in a kennel. Vets use big towels and big thick gloves and sedative drugs to sedate in carriers often. Maybe a carrier with a very big opening might work. Good luck.

I recently upgraded to these storage cubes and love them!
I use the hanging door bells for my dog for going potty (apartment life). Works great once they get the hang of it!) (Example)
We used these bells while potty training:

There a little less fun to play with than the jingle bells and you can connect the sound chime to a location closer to you if need be.
Oh! I thought you meant poop guards in the cage!
The trim in the room is a different story entirely!
Yes- you are correct. The paint is extremely toxic.
We use a playpen to control where in the room they can access.

playpen for our Shiba pup before bringing him home at 9 weeks. We still use it when we leave the house and for meals etc. He's now 6 months.
We have it in our living room over carpet.it is super waterproof and washable.
He did escape a few times (after 2-3 months of use) by chewing/scratching a hole in the bottom, but we turned that side against a wall and that has worked since!

I agree, maybe one of these.
Look for something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Pet-Trex-30-Playpen-Panels/dp/B00F97RJH6
My dog who is afraid of a crate will accept this with no complaint. You can use it as a pen or like a fence to block access to a room. You can combine more than one.
Would you be able to gate her in a small room that doesn't have furniture, such as a powder room? Or would it help to use an indoor kennel that is more open than the crate but will still keep her out of the rest of the house? You could even combine confining her and using Benadryl.
