I'm dispensing my advice from this being year seven, and from the angle of being a worker/support and manning a booth (go /r/dcdarknet) . Makes for a lot of walking and a lot of time staying put at a booth. (Note, I add and update this every year, and then save it because the question will always be asked again).
Fluids (if any tl:dr -- keep fluids up at all cost)
Note: I've stopped drinking for the duration of the con, since it is easy to get into a bad spot, dehydrated, and I've got contests depending on my help (plus you get to see more cool things). Just my stance after six years, and probably why the goons don't drink on the job: not that they can't, just that they are responsible. If not responsible for anything, hell, you're in Sin City, do what you want.
"The best things I put in my mouth all weekend of DEFCON":
These natural throat losenges are great. I gave out all that I had to the good people working booths, and got the quoted reaction. It helps for just socializing an talking for hours and hours in the desert, and getting your voice back.

Here is my tool Box that I purchased to hold everything.

Here is the case I purchased for the mavic and its controller. This case fits nicely in the tool box.

I had one of these, it works awesome. It holds ALL cables, Chargers, AND batteries. Also fits nicely in the tool box.
https://www.amazon.com/BUBM-Electronic-Accessories-Organizer-Earphone/dp/B071JNSNSQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504231157&sr=1-4&keywords=wire+organizer+Bag+BUBM
I am going to show you a photo of everything in the case, so I must explain everything I keep in the case in case you are wondering what that weird thing is.

Landing pad -- Not needed, but I love it. It keeps my mavic off the dirt/ground. It also helps the go home feature by having something identifiable by the drone, so it knows where to land.

BTW, Be careful on the filters you choose if you want filters. The filters that I purchased the first go around were to thick and caused gimbal failures. I then purchased these from a suggestion from a reddit user and it works like a charm.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WW7YW5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I DID purchase a range extender, and sun shade, but I shouldn't have. There are a LOT of tall trees where I live... So the range did not improve with this product. IF you live in an area like the desert or lots of farm land, I think this product would work ok.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072M9KZQZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The gimbal lock and cover was a little stupid, being in two pieces and all, so I purchased this which works great.

I’d normally recommend a MOLLE pouch for any extra pouches or space you may want, but since your pack isn’t compatible, any pouch will do for smaller items.
Considering how much you’re carrying, I’m not sure 17 liters is enough, but in any case, Id recommend the peak design tech pouch for a be-all-end-pouch that has great organization and overall build quality.

Other than that, I’d personally recommend get an Art Day pack or Tech pack as they have the liters to better suit all the items you’ll be carry imo.
> Throw any strange thing you can at me.
The first thing I thought of was the Sharp Wizard OZ-770. A PDA of yore. Best small keyboard I have ever used and I have used many. I still miss this PDA. Battery life (a couple of AAs) was insane - I'm talking monthly with extensive use. Terrible suggestion, just wanted to give this device a shoutout:-)
A more reasonable suggestion would be a 7" Android Laptop as far as "low power, light weight and affordable" goes. Goes without saying: read the reviews.
You also have the Zagg Autofit Folio Case that will turn (nearly) any 7" Android Tablet into a laptop. I have the 10" version - keyboard isn't that great (keys just feel cramped) but love having my tablet actually behave like a real laptop, plus the Android specific buttons are fantastic.
Bunch of older clamshell devices running through my head right now but I think they're more trouble than they're worth in terms of sharing local data, connecting to other devices, keyboard issues, Windows CE (limited), etc.
I love my TB Medium Cafe Bag. I take it everywhere also. Mine is the burnt orange color. I haven't used the Freudian Slips at all, but that looks super convenient.
This bag fits almost perfectly into the front zipper pouch.
Hynes Eagle Travel Universal Cable Organizer Electronics Accessories Cases for Various USB Phone Charger and Cable Grey
Is there an update on this? Would love to see something! I would love to tackle this LOL
I would first unplug everything and figure out what wires are connecting to what and where. I would also recommend a new spot for your power outlet. Buy USB extension cables for more flexibility. Purchase Cable Raceway and 3m Double sided tape to go under your desk. Buy Velcro cable ties Connect your Mouse to your keyboard if you have the option to. Run all wires through the raceway. Buy a Cable Management Box for your power outlet. Buy a three or four tier drawer where you can keep accessories like our Vive, GoPro and controllers. Buy a cable/electronic organizer to organize your cables that you are not using and anything else you don't use, place them in the drawer.
There's plenty of recommendations for bags here, but what I found more useful, regardless of the bag, is a couple of these:
https://www.amazon.com/BUBM-Electronic-Accessories-Organizer-Perfect/dp/B014R4IGHS
They come in a variety of sizes and models, not just the two seen on that page. They're amazing for organizing all those individual little connectors, cables, and dongles.
I use a collection of cable organizers and HAK5 bags (I got a bunch in a promo ages ago). I have one for the datacenter that has datacenter specific things, then I have a general purpose bag, then I have my pentest kit, each bag has its own role and set of tools. They all fit in my backpack pretty uniformly, I can carry up to five (and my handheld) before I run out of space but then again, that's a lot of tools and gear, too..
Bags like this one (as a representative sample, I don't own *this* bag but ones like it) https://www.amazon.com/BAGSMART-Travel-Electronics-Organizer-Charger/dp/B06XW41VB2
My junk drawer was full of random cables. Even though they were neatly bundled (each), they're still all over the place. I ended up getting an organizer that is specifically made for cables. Since you have items larger than cables, maybe something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014R4IGHS/ref=yo_pop_rec_s_3?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B014R4IGHS&pd_rd_r=9c7a1d81-876c-4f1d-9965-8dec6156dfbb&pd_rd_w=pc03A&pd_rd_wg=dRiO4&psc=1&refRID=2BKCAWT7M5PH8TWQYM5G) might be useful. The key is you should be able to easily scan and find the item you are looking for without having to dig under a ton of stuff.
The CPL24 is one of my a favorite bag bags and still my EDC; the lack of organization is definitely a negative. I currently use this organizer which fits perfectly in the front:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B017SKRY94/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't love it though but I tried many things and this one works best.
Good suggestions! For me, I just prefer that my EDC be a messenger and realistically, I almost never need something bigger than 10-15L for daily use so having a bigger EDC (15-20L+) and then throwing a laptop case/sleeve in there seems redundant if I'm already toting a smaller EDC to begin with.
The one exception would be for travel purposes where something like that Lihit Lab sleeve might be useful to use with a packable daypack. I've also thought about getting this TomToc laptop organizer.
What a timely post as I am currently awaiting an organizer like that since I'm starting to amass a bunch of cables & chargers myself & my Maxpedition is starting to flood. What's with the USB - C suggestion, though? Are we finally making the universal shift to one type of cable? I don't want to be out of the loop. Thanks for post.
Here's the one I'm getting for anyone curious:
https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-BUBM-Electronics-Accessory-Organizer-Grey/dp/B01IPJPGW4/ref=pd_sbs_147_4/143-3001847-5369409?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01IPJPGW4&pd_rd_r=f2a6a366-c847-4431-8133-ba53e799f34c&pd_rd_w=buhh6&pd_rd_wg=dZwTL&pf_rd_p=1c11b7ff-9ffb-4ba6-8036-be1b0afa79bb&pf_rd_r=8TJQN42CQ16KAQ7KP02A&psc=1&refRID=8TJQN42CQ16KAQ7KP02A
Honestly just get a neutral color backpack that has the space you need. I have a gray North Face that I love.
I spent years as a consultant working with guys that had VCDX, CCIE etc. Everyone wore nice clothes but carried a backpack, because nothing looks more unprofessional than not having a tool you need, whether its a light extension cord, tiny screw driver to change out a new nics faceplate or a usb to serial to console cable.
Get one or two gadget organizers (that is literally what I searched on Amazon to find it) to hold stuff so that you can just slide it in or out of your backpack if you know you arent going to need it and so that you don't have to dig around.
https://www.amazon.com/BUBM-Organizer-Electronics-Accessories-Charger/dp/B016HRHFKC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1473431897&sr=8-6&keywords=gadget+organizer
I just bought one of these which is pretty cool for organizing odds and ends. They are a little heavy though. But they make smaller ones, too.
Aside from that get some organizer bags. You can just use ziplocks if you want. I've got one of these and it holds a ton of stuff. Plenty of other similar things around as well.
Roger that!

Does this work better? Thanks for the headsup! :)
Hi there! It is this case: BUBM Double Layer Electronic Accessories Organizer, Travel Gadget Carry Bag, Perfect Size Fit for iPad Mini (Medium, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014R4IGHS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vy27Ab8379FM3
I am using this case for all my cables. The short 6" cables are stacked on one side, I can fit 24 and they look like this. The larger pockets I roll up the longer cables and put them in there. I also use the pockets to hold passive mults, tools, and misc. equipment.
This is really going to depend on how much stuff you have. You should buy something that is pretty much exactly the size you need. Personally, I carry 3 cables, a plug, some small adaptors, and a powerbank.
So this bag: Hynes Eagle Cord Organizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DVKXT3/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_5fTJDbM66QRE7
Was perfect for my purposes. It's also really cheap so u don't really care what happens to it.
You should take a look at the GridIT they are awesome!

I use a similar pouch to this that lives in my work backpack. If I'm taking a trip, it just moves between bags. My laptop charger stays in a separate pocket.

I've been able to fit the following in it comfortably:
In general, I wrap all cables using the over, under method. It’s the best way to organize cables.
For personal use: I have a traveling cable bag. BUBM Double Layer Travel Gear... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014R4IGHS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
For office/home office: I use stackable bins that don’t have lids so I can reach in and grab the cable I need. I also label my bins with the type of cable. Ex. USB-C to DP or Cat6 cables.
Thanks man! Would these work? this , this , or this
Okay that's one impressive bag of PCMCIA accessories. I had the same 10baseT card and the CF card adapter. But you're missing the most important one.
I just got this one off Amazon. I am using it with my CPL24. Holds a lot and stays pretty slim. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017SKRWL4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pC7PDbGX7P3HR
This one fits like a glove in the front exterior pocket and horizontally in the mesh pocket with some room on top.
Not an app, but the only solution I have found.
External Battery
It's a bubm you can find them on Amazon in all kinds and sizes? This is an size M. I think I might have ordered another one from wish/aliexpress as well.

I picked up one of the new GaN 61W PD USB-C jobs.
Its much smaller than the stock power adapter(2"x2"x1").
Picked up a nice 6 foot USB-C cable to go with it.
Stock power adapter stays at home, new little guy lives in my cord bag
I only carry USB-C chargers/cables and got little adapters for the three items I travel with that are micro-usb.
Mouse(MX Anywhere 2) stays with the computer.
Somthing I really like that keeps the form factor of what you linked is Bagsmart's Tech organizer. One thing I would say, though, is that it's geared more towards tech and wcables/wires.
I don’t know of a case that can carry the dongle, I guess this would help
I used a cable organizer like this: https://www.amazon.com/BAGSMART-Double-Layer-Organizer-Electronics-Accessories/dp/B01NCVI872/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1537220317&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=cable+organizer+travel&psc=1
I also have a backpack with my laptop and bigger gear.
I use this. People swear by it. It's alright to me. It does the job.

I'm looking for something like this, but built into a larger bag that could hold the Surface...

This is just an example. i have no idea if that individual one is a good buy. But there are hundreds of little electronics and cable cases on there that you can sort through and find one that fits the size and needs that you're after. Some of them are hard shell if you want to just toss it in with other things.

I cut off the logo, it was just stitched on, and cut the stitching on one of the mesh pockets that was making it into two smaller pockets when I needed one bigger pocket to accommodate my battery pack. Other than that, it's perfect for what I use it for: cords, chargers, flashdrives, and a battery back. I keep it in my backpack.
This one: Bag Smart
I use it everyday. Have all my cables, external battery charger, field notes, pen. If you want to see what's inside let me know.
Here's another option. Look at all those cable organizers!

There's tons. Just search cable+organizer
My setup:
Bagsmart Organizer - for all electronics and non-liquid toiletries (electric toothbrush, chargers, floss, etc.).
Muji 3-1-1 Case - for all liquids/pastes/gels.

I think this is it.
Nothing fancy but I got this one for daily commuting cord and pen/pencil, flash drive management.
