You know, I just signed the lease on a new place with a friend, and we were looking up this exact thing. I'll try to gather up some links of neat stuff I've run across before!

Here's one guy's "Deus Ex-esque bedroom" Those hexagonal mirrors can be found in sets for quite cheaply, and since then I've seen this pattern replicated.

Infinity LED mirrors can be made super easily and very cheaply, and they look awesome.

Hackerspaces can have some crazy ideas. Most of them look like they take a lot of work. Many of them just involve lots of neat junk.

Someone had mentioned a (fairly?) simple home automation project wherein all the light switch housings were replaced with cheap Raspberry Pis with attached cheap touchscreen displays to control lighting and whatever else you connected to it. Seems neat.

Drones are consumer-ready and pretty cyberpunk... get some drones?

Those neat noir "bars" caused by high-contrast blinds with light sources behind them.

This chair in black. Kinda. Also this chair. Kinda.

Etsy can have some pretty sweet stuff sometimes!

This pendant lamp.

Basically anything using LEDs can look neat. Or tacky. But mostly neat.

Low beds can be pretty neat and fitting. I personally love having just basically a mattress bed on the floor. It's makeshift, but it's my favorite type of bed.

Anything involving weapons could be considered cyberpunk decor (going more for the dystopia vibe). Regardless of whether you own one or even can own one, this quick-access hydraulic lock box is neat, and meant to be used in a living space or bedroom. I'd put other things in it, just for the fun of it.

If you wanted to really up the dystopia/low-life aspect, you could get replica (like airsoft?) firearms and mount them on a wall or something. Obviously don't do this with real guns. That's retarded.

Articulating monitor mounts to be used with desktop monitors are pretty sweet and can add additional tech vibe, as are articulating laptop stands for the same purpose.

Wanna take apart a computer and hang it up? Impractical, but så kult!

Lights, lights, lights. This time, lights around the shower!

Mount your networking stuff to the wall. Modem/router/switches and whatnot. Don't be afraid of lights and cables.

I'm still looking around at more things and gathering more ideas. Most things you'd have to make yourself, and that's sort of what I plan on doing for almost everything. Is this helpful at all so far? I can keep going.

I've just moved into a 1/1 in South Florida that has a 12.5' x 18' combined living/dining area as in most apartments. I moved with relatively little furniture and am starting fresh. I already have some plans here but want some feedback on my selections and ideas.

To start with —

The couch is a Ryler from Ashley Furniture in steel: https://www.ashleyfurniture.com/p/ryler-sofa/4020138.html

The TV/media unit is a BYÅS from IKEA. It is a glossy white but I am not necessarily trying to let that dictate the rest of the furniture in the room: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/byas-tv-unit-high-gloss-white-80227797/

I also own an Avenal shaded arc lamp from Target (in nickel finish) but haven't assembled it yet: https://www.target.com/p/avenal-shaded-arc-floor-lamp-project-62-153/-/A-52937505?preselect=51021780#lnk=sametab

The walls are white and the floors are a light grey/brown faux wood. The colors of the walls and floors both change a bit depending on the light — sometimes the walls look grey or off-white, but they are white. The floors look more brown than grey in the photo but in direct light they are pretty light. There is one ceiling LED fixture just out of the frame here, but the ceiling fan light kind of sucks and doesn't light the room very well, hence the big lamp.

Here are my plans —

Obviously will be moving my dog's bowls and food

u/AcheBae · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

Aw mr zip is so freakin cute! :)

And dang now that I looked closely the living room looks tiny. I think a good entertainment stand would be some like this , you could mount it or put it on the stand but ideally I think the tv should be at eye level so you don’t strain your neck.

And as for rugs I would recommend a dark color. I would get a solid color personally but I understand that’s boring for others but something like this.

I think these shelves would help you out a lot.

And I honestly don’t know where I would put mr zip. Cause in the pics i can’t tell if you would have enough room there for him and the couch. Do you have a pic of the couch under the stairs? Like if you were to stand in front of it?

u/CaptainStarmander · 1 pointr/htpc

I was thinking about the M.2 drive because it would reduce the boot up time. I've never used M.2 so I'm not sure how much it would help with bootup, but I wanted to give it a try.

As for the case, I thought it would work best in the space I'm using this entertainment center and I wanted a good fit in the cubby on the right hand side, while preventing any ventelation issues.

How would a SATA vs M.2 boot up times contrast? That's a cut I'd be willing to make, even though I think it would be cool to have.

Why not just buy a Salamander Designs stand? I have an Archetype 5.0 like this and it works great. I have my ATI amplifier on the bottom and it's much bigger than your XPA-2. Sticks out just a tad on the back, but the feet are all on the stand. I have that, my Threshold above it, Integra processor above that, and APC power conditioner above that - the top has random junk I put on it because why not.

I had enough room with that stand to leave plenty of room for cooling above each component, plus the open design is great for letting air get to them. My room is still an oven, but the stand isn't making them hotter than they should be. Finish is kinda crap on the black one, I bought it because it was cheap, matched my stuff, and I didn't care - but the nicer finishes probably hold up better. You could honestly just buy some wood and then order the rods and stuff from Salamander and make your own, I realized after I bought it - but more work involved.

It's a much better stand than my other stand (Actually it doesn't look just like this, but same general design.) It's made for shitty components that weigh nothing and aren't deep. My large Denon AVR will not fit in any shelf because it's too deep, so it sits on the very top - just like OP here. I'm just too cheap to buy two Salamander stands. It is annoying pushing buttons on stuff though, the whole stand wobbles. I use the remote mostly anyway and it's in the corner - so not like it will get knocked over.

u/honeydothis · 2 pointsr/DIY

Here's where I got mine. They actually have a sale now I think they're cheaper when I bought them two weeks ago: https://www.hairpinlegs.com/collections/table-legs/products/3-rod-hairpin-leg

Here are the cheaper alternatives: https://www.amazon.com/Altra-Retro-Accent-Table-Espresso/dp/B00N4SSYOO

You'll have to ditch the top and paint them, though. I believe they're hollow, compared to the solid metal from the first link, but reviewers say they feel pretty substantial! Good luck with your project!

u/TyMiles2012 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I agree it's not on topic with the switch, but to simply answer OP's question since I feel like hijacking the top comment, just get whatever fits your needs. I do suggest bumping up your budget though. If you can afford a Switch, you can afford to deal with what you have now until you can get a decent entertainment center.

Save up and get this. It'll hold your Switch, and everything else you need. It fits my 55" TV and my subwoofer. Dock sits on top of sub.

The 14" ATLP60 may not fit very well on top of the 12.5" AX-31 since the feet may not entirely contact the surface and is best not to put a turntable over a receiver anyways, though that one does not have any top vents and my not produce much heat.

The ATLP60 is just ok, if it does happen to skip on a particular record, don't play the record anymore.

The TEAC is a good turntable for the low sale price.

At $300 is the Fluance RT82 with Ortofon OM 10 with an optical sensor speed controlled motor for lower wow and flutter and speed variation specs and also has auto stop. Mine sounds great.

Your best bet is to not limit yourself to the LP60 and to either put the turntable off to the side or to use an audio stand or build a single shelf stand over the AX-31, similar too but taller than the Pangea Audio Vulcan Rack Add-on Shelf.

Or build your own full height or single shelf DIY Flexy Rack: Ideas on PinterstThe TNT FleXy Table - TNT-AudioThe Official Flexy Rack ThreadEasy Flexy Rackflex-rack-projectI made this modular stereo flexi-rack.

I have that one, it is solid wood and comes unfinished. It would be easy enough to finish it how you would like. Its held up well with a 5 year old bouncing on it as well as some pretty good adult bouncing too...

u/TheDapperMob · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Here is the stand. I completely recommend it if you're in the market for one! Only $45, easy to install, looks nice, and completely stable. This is the chair. It's good for kicking back. I do have an upright office chair as well when I need to get serious.

u/jfhaxlee · 1 pointr/battlestations

Hey u/HomeAutomationNerd,

Here is the stand, I bought it on Amazon like 3 years ago...https://www.amazon.com/WE-Furniture-Stand-Console-Mount/dp/B010EA5ZH8/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= . The measurements are 58"x24"x16" (LxHxW). I have mine in my 14'x18' bedroom and its pretty big, so it will take up a lot more room in a 10'x11' bedroom, but it will definitely fit and you will have tons of space for all your electronics and entertainment equipment.

u/Jhidadeng · 9 pointsr/AnimalTextGifs

The table itself is usually about 30in by 30in. You can buy larger, but you'd be surprised how much you can fit on that space. We use it for laptops and as a dinner table, and it works fine. If we tried to add people on the other two sides, it would probably get a little cramped.

The kakeshiki (over and under blankets) are typically about 72-80in on each side, but you can find them much larger (like the under blanket in this gif being room sized). Ours is 80in on each side, and our kotatsu is oriented diagonally to the shikibuton (under-blanket) so it looks like this. That gives us a lot of room to lay down while sticking our legs under it.

There are legless chairs you can use to alleviate sitting on the floor if it causes you an issue. These are called zaisu (example). Or you can buy a shikibuton with a built in roll at the edge which is kind of a fusion between a sofa and a shikibuton. I've only ever seen it called a kotatsu sofa because it has no real precedent in Japan (this page shows what the hell I'm talking about). But that sort of kills the space-saving design and easy stowability of the kotatsu.

We do just fine with using spare blankets and pillows for padding if we feel uncomfortable sitting on the floor for extended priods. Something worth mentioning is that you can make a kick ass fort with a kotatsu and a few chairs covered in blankets.

EDIT: Just went through the arduous process of uploading a picture from my phone to Imgur. I took that immediately after setting up the kotatsu before she moved in. The room is 15.5ft x 11.5ft, so I hope that gives you a good idea of the space consumption. One bonus point is that it's easy to just move to the side if you want the space for something else like party games in front of the TV.

u/ihavetouchedthesky · 2 pointsr/AskEngineers

Good idea. The angular rotation desk design is an oddball I think, probably not many in commercial circulation but I'll look. Most are scissor lift or straight up/down somehow. Edit: Guess this really wouldn't matter on the design. Whatever commercial electric desks are using to lift should be rated for about the same. I'll have a look.

There are some non-motorized versions of a coffee table that have good design using springs and gas lifts Albeit these work due to a weighted base. Mine is very light.
Thank you

u/Mundus_Vult_Decipi · 1 pointr/audiophile

Thanks! Looks like the same concept as a DIY flexy rack. Here's a post from Amazon for others interested.

I don't like it because I can already feel the springs but for the price it's good for overnight guests. One or two nights is fine. The backrest side is the cushy side.

u/marceriksen · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

No problem. I have my battlestation setup in the living room and love it! Also if you're looking for a semi desk solution check this table out. Best piece of furniture ever.

u/DeliciousGorilla · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Have a look at this one ($160):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R9HVPBK/

That was the futon I had for 2 years before the new one. There's also a burgundy velvet option for $40 more. While it's not as comfy, it still looked good. Great bang for the buck.

u/wupdup · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Your #1 layout looks best to me. Yes it's a little cramped, which is why if it were me I'd nix the dining table unless I got sufficient use out of it. If it's to be kept and you need more space for the couch, push the couch against the dining table when it's not in use. If you'll nix the dining table, consider going Japanese with floor chairs around the coffee table.

u/LvdSinSD · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

Sorry for the poor lighting, north facing room means not a lot of natural light! Just need to get some gallery frames to put on the wall between the crib and dresser. There's also a book shelf to the right of the chair that you can't see.

I measured all the equipment I had and found this tv stand that fit perfectly.

u/badkarmaclub · 1 pointr/Frugal

If you want to get a futon, I'd strongly recommend buying this frame and then buying a mattress for it separately. It folds up into a couch and back down into a bed really smoothly, and is quite comfortable. It's simple to put together and is easy to move around. I'd recommend it strongly over the frame you're considering, because those types of frames tend to be of poor quality and break easily, whereas this one is very sturdy and simple. No danger of the slats breaking unless you apply ridiculous amounts of force.

u/chrisdazzo · 1 pointr/hometheater

It’s a [Sonax FB-2607] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004IDS6II/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ajrvCbSDSZB2J), from Amazon. I’ve had it for 6 years now, it’s held up pretty well across 3 moves and 2 states.

u/DirtyChito · 3 pointsr/interiordecorating

If you know the color you can try to search for other tables in the same finish. You might even be able to contact IKEA and seeing if you can get the matching table. It looks like a craftsman oak or driftwood finish. This table looks similar.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DYR1KHW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1ngFybHC57YNF

I have that one in a espresso finish and love it. Plus, being a lift-top is great for games or eating. My point is don't settle on something you don't enjoy looking at and using. But, at the same time, don't beat yourself up if it's not an EXACT match. Mine is ever so slightly different but you don't notice unless you're trying to inspect it.

Can't comment on that specific chair, but similar chairs aren't hard to find.

I don't know if I'd necessarily recommend buying one online, unless there are lots of reviews. There are lots of these kinds of chairs around from various manufacturers, so the build quality can vary from "buy it for life" to "disintegrates in shipping". I had one ~18 years ago that lasted maybe three years before the frame broke. I had paid maybe $80 tops for it, though, so I wasn't expecting much. It was comfy while it lasted, though.

i tried the babyletto kiwi (https://www.amazon.com/Babyletto-Electronic-Recliner-Swivel-Glider/dp/B01N16CUB6) in a local store and really liked it. it's tall enough to rest your head if you're taller and the recline function (button instead of lever) is really nice. the only thing i worry about is that the electrical components on the button could eventually go.

I was thinking about that as well since it's hard finding space to hangout when friends/family are over. I was also thinking about moving the bookshelf by the window somewhere else and putting a small couch there, though I'm not sure if that would make the room too cluttered. Was thinking of something like this:

I have no idea of this item's quality, but it is similar in nature to what you're seeking: http://www.amazon.com
