This is because most 'office' mice have 400dpi sensors. In order to be able to use these windows settings and yet have the mouse be sensitive enough to be used comfortably, you need a higher dpi mouse. Most "gaming grade" mice, even on the cheaper end, have different dpi steps that range from 400 to 4000(and uselessly beyond - hooray marketing!) to allow you to adjust the "speed" of your cursor on the hardware end, while still keeping the precision of 1:1 pixel mapping in windows via the settings I mentioned earlier.

If you'd like such a mouse at a relatively inexpensive price, steelseries and logitech make some not-so-bad mice that wouldn't look so out of place in an office.

TL;DR: turn off enhanced precision, set windows to 6/11 sensitivity to get 1:1 pixel mapping, adjust the mouse dpi to how fast you want it, never skip pixels again.

It's a classic for a reason. You won't be able to play it at HD resolution, and as a word of warning the graphics—particularly in the early game—were slammed for being kinda outdated on release. In 2000. But it's a classic for a reason.

That said, it's a twenty-year old game. It looks and feels like a twenty-year old game. There are possibly better options for you if you just want a dungeon crawler that a lower-end machine can handle. And if you want an RPG and not specifically an ARPG, there are more options still. Planescape: Torment and the Baldur's Gate games hold up incredibly well, but they both lack D2's, I dunno, zip. D2 gets right to the point.

If you care to share your specs you can probably get some specific recommendations. I'll add that if you do go with D2, do yourself a favor and invest in a cheap gaming mouse. The Diablo games are point and click, and playing with a laptop trackpad will start to feel painful fast.

This mouse might be an option. The button placement isn't the best, and I wouldn't recommend this mouse for an fps player, but I've used its predecessor and it's not too bad.

If you want to get flexible, there are quite a few ambidextrous mice with 2 buttons on each side.

GL healing.

> Most of those don't come with software for making mice macros. They just send raw inputs to PC

To be honest, I didn't even think about that. I've used Logitech mice for so long and have only purchased their G series mice, which all seem to work with their software. That does rule out a lot of mice. I just checked and a bunch of them listed the side buttons as "forward" and "back" and didn't mention anything about being programmable.

The point I was initially trying to make is you can find a prgrammable mouse for much cheaper than you can find a prgrammable keyboard. I did have to bump up to $24, though.

u/SummonerStadan · 5 pointsr/buildapc

I'a huge fan of the Logitech G300s. Good tracking, six programmable buttons, on the fly DPI switching and up to three profiles, etc. It's got backlights that change depending on your current profile, but they're only in like nine colours or something, no RBG. Still that's the only sacrifice really. It's a good, comfortable mouse all around.

Had it for almost a year now and it's still working perfectly, no signs of wear either, looks like the day I got it, and I never took specifically good care of it. I even got it used off of amazon and it's still great, so it might be more like 2 years old. My assumption is that the previous owner sold it because they got enough money to get a high end mouse.

It's a bit pricey for what you said, considering it's $39.99 full price (http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g300s-gaming-mouse), but, again, I got mine used, (refurbished) and it was only $30. (I just found it new on amazon for $29.99, http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Gaming-910-004360/dp/B00RH6R7C4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457310799&sr=8-1&keywords=g300s)

As for the keyboard, I've looked, blackstarokeechobee is right, you won't find a mechanical keyboard for less than fifty. Imo, gaming membrane keyboards are mostly just more aesthetic than their cheaper office counterpart, so I'd personally just get a shit $15 keyboard from walmart or something until you can afford a mechanical one.

How about this?

u/onlywrin · 4 pointsr/Guildwars2

Well.... here's some great mice for under your $50 minimum. The Logitech 300 series (300, 302, 303) are all 20-40 and are my personal recommendation if you're on a budget.

Best one I could get for the price range:

G300s

Or you can get a SteelSeries Rival 100 which I use but it only has 2 side buttons.

Id stay away from the cheaper one, have you considered logitech?

The g402 is pretty good too, although a bit more expensive.

u/linux_vegan · 3 pointsr/Ubuntu

I've actually found a use for it. I have different keybindings set to different colors of the mouse. Red light means 1,2,3, and 4 keys are bound to the extra buttons. Blue gets me a few different commands like alt tab and copy paste. I have a couple different setups I switch between. The rgb isn't offensive in any way either

Need a new gaming mouse.

I absolutely love my Logitech G300 and on sale for $20 right now is hard to beat, so I'm probably going to get two of them anyway (one for traveling, because they have a habit of breaking in my backpack - right-click button is borked on the current one; left-click died on my last one after having to rebuild it twice) and they last me 2-3 years. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind trying out some others, especially cheap Asian knockoffs so I can see if I like a different style or button arrangement better before I splurge on a new $100 mouse.

Here's my problem: I have giant hands, and very few mice nowadays have any buttons on the right side for my pinky/ring fingers. It's part of why I love the G300, those two extra buttons for my ring finger are pretty damn handy for MMOs and programmable macros. I wouldn't mind having 2-4 thumb buttons, like the Steelseries Rival 500 or G.Skill Ripjaws. But a minimum 7-8 buttons is my main requirement.

Any recommendations?

u/Screye · 3 pointsr/IndianGaming

if you won't even be using the side mounted keys (Which are primarily necessary for hotkey intensive games like Dota, you might as well get the Logitech G300s.

It is an amazing mouse, ergonomically.

edit:

Also, if money is no issue and you do't care too much about competitive gaming performance, then a wireless mouse should be fine.

I think it is a bit too much to spend on a mouse, and the money saved could go into getting much better peripherals. But, if you have cash to spare, go for it.

u/frostpudding · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme
I did everything but the graphics card. I picked a monitor that is 1080p at 144hz, but you could cut down to 1080p 70hz if your budget is super tight. I didn't leave too much space for a graphics card. Either way, like the other guy said, you should wait awhile. These prices shouldn't change too much, maybe the processor and mobo will be cheaper.

u/HeyThisIsntTinder · 2 pointsr/elderscrollsonline

This is the mouse I have. It doesn't have a ton of extra buttons, and they're placed pretty conveniently, although I don't use the extra buttons on it very much, just one for weapon switching, and 1st person/3rd person switch. A bonus is that the mouse has RGB light strips, and you can set then to match the G13 board when you're playing!

u/TxxNES · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

you may want to upgrade the keyboard and mouse.. you said you could go over $1000 and for this you may want to. that bundle is good for the price but that will not be very comfortable for gaming.. i would suggest the following if youre willing to spend the extra money on it.

a cheap but good mechanical feeling keyboard - i once had this one and can reccoment

and for a cheap mouse - [i also had this when i started on a budget] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Gaming-910-004360/dp/B00RH6R7C4/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1493617332&sr=8-25&keywords=gaming+mouse)

Avoid cheap wireless mouse. Just a regular mouse from a name brand.

I personally use a gaming mouse with 9 programmable buttons. I set the right two for undo and redo and the left two as zoom and paste and don't use the rest.

I didn't want to spend much and found this mouse for only $22:https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Ambidextrous-Gaming/dp/B00RH6R7C4

I always suggest Logitech, there's a few for under $30 but can't comment on them personally. One that sticks out G300

I have a 5 year old G9x and it refuses to die. I spent £65 ($93) on my mouse and wouldn't think of spending it again as it's come to $18.60 a year so far and I expect it to last a few years more as long as I don't whack it with a hammer. So if you can I'd say spend the extra getting a nicer one, the new version of my mouse seems to be the [G502] (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Proteus-Tunable-Customizable-910-004074/dp/B00IRHE892/ref=pd_cp_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1ZSGF70AYSMAP4D6Y02B) but it has LEDs sadly, seems pretty much anything over $40 will have LEDs, they are dirt cheap to put in afterall.

u/CSSLZT13 · 2 pointsr/MECoOp

So I don't know if you're still looking for advice on this topic, but I figured, I have an honest suggestion that requires about $20-30 USD -- buy a cheap gaming mouse that has extra buttons! Like, seriously, I realized that having the extra buttons made firefights much more manageable, since I usually map my powers to the extra mouse buttons. This way, you can configure 1-4 as your consumable patch, and use the mouse to fire off powers like there's no tomorrow. The mouse I personally use is this one: Logitech G300s Wired :D If mapping the consumables to the mouse sounds more up your alley, you can do that, too -- the two extra buttons on either side of the mouse should suffice. Best part -- if the mouse buttons don't work for this game, I'm sure they've gotta come in handy for other games -- sometimes, I fumble the grenade and melee commands in certain games, so having them on the mouse helps to eliminate confusion.

I swear I wasn't paid by anyone to promote this product -- I just thought I'd suggest it to help with your issue. I understand that reality, as well -- nothing like fumbling for the first aid pack and hitting the ammo consumable instead! Heh. Hope this works!

Personally I love Logitech components. Their stuff lasts forever.

Mouse and keyboard come down to personal preference, but you don't need to spend hundreds to get decent ones. More money will get you more bells and whistles, like macro keys and LED lights and stuff, but you can get a decent "boring" Logitech keyboard and mouse for $50 combined. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Classic-Keyboard-K100-920-003199/dp/B004VVLZN0

The Logitech G300s is currently $28.99 on Amazon, and I have it myself. It has 4 convenient macro buttons that you can reach to with your index and middle fingers), and actually 6 if you count the 2 macro buttons below the mouse wheel. However, like I said, they're not thumb rest buttons, but they'll work, and it's a great deal for only $28.99.

u/Boom- · 2 pointsr/Games

You didn't give a budget so I'll send you one.

Logitech G502 - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Spectrum-Shifting-Personalized-Programmable/dp/B019OB663A/ is RGB but reliable and one of the best mice out there.

It's also very cheap. Walmart and bestbuy were clearing them out for $15, you might find some around 20 or so now.
Other good ambi mice are the g203, gpro, and g305 though side buttons are only on the left.

Here is a guide on how to overclock the CPU in this build: http://overclocking.guide/asrock-z170-non-k-overclocking-guide/

Here is a benchmark of the CPU in TF2: https://youtu.be/JMb1Hr2nmJo

Min. FPS 105 | Max. FPS 287 | Avg. FPS 156
----|----|:----
1920x1080|16:9|Fullscreen
Model detail: High|Texture detail: High|Shader detail: High
Water detail: Reflect all|Shadow detail: High|Anti-aliasing mode: 8x MSAA
Filtering mode: Anisotropic 16X|VSync: Disabled|Motion blur: Enabled

The GPU used in the video is more expensive. The RX 460 performance is comparable, is newer and has more VRAM. TF2 doesn't really care about the GPU, anyway.

Tweaking the settings and using some configs can easily get you more FPS.

# Saving money.

As I mentioned above, /r/BuildAPCSales is a fantastic place to find deals on PC parts. There's a few things to keep in mind, though.

Parts you cannot replace from the list:

CPU
Motherboard

The CPU (i3-6100) has hyperthreading, which essentially means the CPU performs better. The motherboard was also the cheapest that supports overclocking, which extends the life of your PC. If you change one of these two parts, I cannot guarantee that they will work together or support overclocking.

Parts you can replace from the list:

RAM (Memory) (DDR4 only)
Storage (SSD and HDD)
GPU (Graphics Card)
PSU (Powersupply)

RAM must be DDR4, it's very easy to tell because it will always be in the title. Any RAM that is labeled DDR3 or DDR2 will not work with the PC.

SSDs are insanely fast. The caveat is that they are expensive for their GB size. Any SSD will work with the PC, so if you find a bigger SSD for a cheaper price, go for it.

HDDs are slow, but affordable in large sizes. The difference is that games on SSDs will load faster, while games on HDDs will load slower. Keep the games you want to load fast on the SSD, and other games, movies, music, etc. on the bigger HDD.

PSUs are tricky and I don't recommend picking a different one. The one I chose leaves room for upgrades, is easier to use and, most importantly, is reliable. A non-reliable PSU can destroy your PC. Trust me, just stick with the one I chose or ask /r/BuildAPC if another one you find cheaper is reliable.

There are tons of Black Friday deals for mice right now, and the mid-range Logitech G-series ones are a pretty good value. Wired, good sensors, and they'll last forever. You can hit /r/buildapcsales and filter by mouse.

Here are a couple options that might be in your price range.

G300s on Amazon for $20

G502 Proteus Core on Amazon for $40

G600MMO on Newegg for $30

Logitech is the best option for mice. I currently use a Logitech G303 but they aren't sold anymore. What is your budget? Left or right handed?

u/oddsnsodds · 1 pointr/buildapc

Head over to r/mousereview. There's a lot more to buying a good mouse than what you use your computer for: what size hands you have, how you hold the mouse, how much room you have on your desk, whether you would use extra buttons....

That said, for a good, cheap generic mouse, I would buy one of these:

VicTsing MM057 2.4G Wireless Mouse

Logitech G300s Optical Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse

Edit: the wireless mouse is quite small; the wired mouse is a regular size for desktop use.

u/acondie13 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Logitech: keyboard
mouse

corsair: mouse

either should be solid options. Don't feel like you need to buy both logitech or both corsair, can mix and match. I typically like to keep things the same brand so I don't have too many software utilities running on my computer at once.

Any thoughts? better options for cheaper?

Why not just buy a G300s ?

u/the_new_guy15 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Buy a better mouse. That looks like cheap garbage. If you want a decent mouse that isn't expensive buy this.

Don't believe things that say "regular price $60, sale price $16.99" they're trying to make you believe you bought a $60 mouse for substantially less than that. But short of extraordinary circumstances, like clearing old stock, you price you pay is a profitable one for the companies involved.

Not a "pro fps" level sensor, but it's good enough for most games and has lots of buttons

u/misha1234521 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I will just say this, I have been able to get to DMG with a 60 HZ monitor. having 144 HZ Monitor may help, but a monitor inst going to magically 100x better at that game. With the mouse, I would recommend getting a better mouse down the road. I just do not believe that it is better to spend money on peripherals rather than the actual PC. If you want to get a separate mouse, this is what I would recommend.

This is the mouse I currently own and it runs great for the price.

If gaming is important, then no this mouse isn't right for you.

However with a lot of gaming mice you'll be looking at a higher price.

For instance I use the Logitech G900. Shit costs $149, but I wanted a Wireless Gaming mouse that worked for claw-grip and I sure got it!

A mouse is going to be one of your most-used peripherals. Don't be afraid to put out a bit more money for it.

I'm using a Logitech G300s. Only $30 from Amazon and it has plenty of extra buttons (I have the left two bound to melee attack & secondary attack and on of the right bound to a slide attack macro). If you're looking for a cheaper option that still has a bunch of extra customizable buttons, this might be the mouse you want.

u/errie_tholluxe · 1 pointr/MMORPG

Logitech G300s. Listed here. Only 8 buttons on top to work with, but it DOES work.

I missed my chance with the Naga or I woulda bought several.

u/Joe10112 · 1 pointr/MouseReview

Thanks for the info. Any quick thoughts about the Deathadder Chroma or Essentials?

Also, do you know of any mice off the top of your head that have buttons next to the Left Click (and Right Click) buttons?

My current mouse: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Gaming-910-004360/dp/B00RH6R7C4

I really like the two buttons next to Left Click and Right Click; I usually bind small actions to them like Stop/Attack Move in Dota 2, and Quick Melee in Overwatch. I'm not used to having buttons under my thumb, and I'm a little worried that I'd accidentally press them (never had buttons under my thumb before, so IDK how "easy" it is to accidentally press them).

Not a must-have for me, but I realized that it was something I quite liked about my current mouse. Only reason I'm switching is because my G300S right click is slightly broken; sometimes it "sticks", and right-clicking doesn't feel responsive occasionally :/ (Plus it feels a little small; I'd like a bigger mouse).

Thanks!

Old mouse broke, need new mouse for my laptop.

I found this mouse, and while it certainly looks attractive, but im not sure if this is what I need.

I tend to play shooters, though mostly not fps, but games like Warframe or isometric and third person games.

I am right handed, and my preferable budget is around $30 USD, but will not go above $50.

Hand length is ~22.23 (this is done with a tape measure so I cant be sure about exactness).

I tend to use the palm grip while web browsing and lite gaming, with the fingertip grip in other scenarios, or the claw if I get agitated.

I would prefer a mouse on the mid to heavy side, and I am a bit new to mice and it seems like an Adjustable DPI would be preferred, but more than 3000 seems a bit excessive.

I find having other buttons available for me very convenient to use with macros. I use both Windows 7 and Linux, and as this is a laptop, I would prefer a wireless mouse, but I have no problems with using a wired mouse. I would appreciate any help or recommendations from you guys.

u/trentbat · 1 pointr/MouseReview

Hmm, these days, most non-gaming mice have been going wireless, so cheaper wired mce are hard to find, especially one with extra buttons. The Microsoft Comfort mouse is really one of the few choices that are affordable.

The Logitech M500 is one of the closest to your criteria, though it does not have a perfectly symmetrical shape, and is catered to right-handed users.

There are many wireless choices out there that you could easily find, and I reccommend getting those if you really do not want Microsoft Comfort Mice.

However, if you're really looking for high-quality mice under $40, you'll have to go gaming-grade. The Logitech G300S is about $30, and is truly ambidextrous. However, the button placement could be found uncomfortable for some people. Also has way more buttons than what you want.

The other gaming-grade choice is the G302, which has buttons on the right, despite being symmetrical.

EDIT: Found THIS and THIS. I wouldn't put too much trust in these though, you never know if they may have build quality issues.

I might suggest the slightly more expensive Logitech gaming mouse G300. Best purchase i've ever made for my machine.

I enjoy my Steelseries Rival 100 which is super cheap. I'm sure there's plenty of other options though, but here's some if you don't want to look.

SteelSeries Sensei $47.90

Razer Deathadder $56.19

Currently own the Logitech G300s

Any thoughts on better? worse? or just stay pat?

u/everythingiscausal · 1 pointr/MouseReview

Here's a hard one: I'm left handed, have pretty large hands, and am looking for a many-button mouse that is as ergonomic as possible. I'd like a minimum of 6 re-mappable buttons usable with a left hand. Wired or wireless, either is fine. Will be used with Windows 10 at work.

I was looking at this, but the button placement looks terrible and it's probably too small.

I'm also considering a Magic Trackpad 2. The gestures would probably make up for the lack of extra buttons, but it's expensive, and I don't know how well it will work with Windows with the custom drivers out there.

  • Games: None
  • Hand Preference: Left or ambidextrous with symmetrical button layout
  • Budget: Up to $120 but preferably under $60
  • Hand Size: 20.5cm x 10.5cm
  • Grip: Preferably palm
  • Weight: No preference
  • Connectivity: No Preference

I did have problems with keybindings in tell I got the Logitech G300s mouse wich as 6G keys. I started to have to vary good time atter I bind my ability, gadgets, and inventory to my mouse. I use Z for edit, Q for switching modes, middle-click for Upgrades, and C for map. BR is more simple with a keyboard and mouse, but STW is a pain if you don't have a lot of mouse buttons

This one looks good to me
Razer Deathadder for mice is nice
Logitech G300s or 402 will do just fine

u/the_lost_carrot · 1 pointr/KillYourConsole

OP lose the Razer stuff, if you want a mechanical keyboard they can be had for significantly less Exhibit A

You can also get a good enough mouse for cheaper, but if you really want a nice mouse $50 isnt too bad, but a good gaming mouse can be found for cheaper as well: see here

Also save some cash on the monitor, with something like this

use that money that you saved and get a better GPU, just wait a few months and get something like the RX 480.

u/FullTorsoApparition · 1 pointr/pcgaming

I used a Logitech G300s for about a year but I didn't like it very much for first-person shooters. Very compact and nice for a small mouse, though; plenty of buttons. Probably best for a claw grip, which I could never get used to.

I switched to a ZOWIE EC2-A about a year ago and haven't even thought of switching since then. It's a very simple mouse, not a lot of buttons, but it fits my hand perfectly. I really love it.

u/SaekoZ2 · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Maybe something logitech? I feel they're pretty underrated and have pretty reliable equipment. I use this for my PC, and while I realize it is listed as $80, you can definitely get it cheaper on amazon or, if you're willing to wait, find it on sale eventually. I got it for around $20 on black friday i think. For a cheaper model from logitech you could look at this.

I'm not a super avid PC gamer so I can't honestly say these will fit the specs you're looking for, but i've been using the G502 for probably almost 2 years now and it hasn't given me a single problem.

u/lapengu · 1 pointr/OverwatchUniversity

A good gaming mouse is not an expensive investment.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Gaming-910-004360/dp/B00RH6R7C4/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1485064979&sr=8-24&keywords=logitech+g

Honestly if you're not using a real gaming mouse with an accurate sensor, there's not much value in trying to dial in your sensitivity. You'll have acceleration throwing off your aim either way. I would recommend setting your in game sens at 8 until you get a proper mouse, and then tinkering more.

Here's a great guide written here, that will also answer most of your questions.

No, you can get a good gaming mouse and a MK for $100, especially if you buy used. Why build a gaming pc when the very interface you use is shit? Hell the OP originally had an i7 processor, which is totally useless and not cost effective.

A 5 second search....

MK $70

or better yet, this beauty for $35

Personally, I would save just a wee bit more and get a better one, a good MK will outlast that build and the next one.

$30 G302
