Yeah, brah! That's what I said! It's totally cool to make fun of a person's looks as long as they are not female or a democrat!

We agree you can't make fun of Nancy Pelosi's looks, right? Or Hilldogs? Or AOC? Even though they are rich and vain and powerful?

And as we see with democrats who are comedians - as well as many who are not - they can say the outlandish things republicans can't say as long as they call it "edgy" or "satire"... and that gives them a free pass.

I mean - we haven't even started in on Trump's famous hair or even more famous mouth shape, gnome sane? Or that big lard butt! All 100% AOK to make fun of as often and as ruthlessly as possible, totally not bullying or bad in any way... In fact: Teach your kids to make fun of his hair and skin color and fat butt and mouth shape! There are so many books to choose from that will help you start them down this path!

It's 100% sanctioned by democrats and democrat-comedians! No worries at all! Insult his looks until your heart is content! Who cares what anybody else thinks about that!

Except maybe... when people go to vote... Nah - that couldn't effect the vote! It must be Russians using mind control techniques!

> Humor is always good.

This isn't really related to any of the books/authors you mentioned but To Be Or Not To Be: A Chooseable Path Adventure is really fun. The same author also wrote Romeo and/or Juliet.

I thought those might be fun while you're recovering because they're like a book and game all in one, and they're very light-hearted.

Good luck with the procedure! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Purdue has a free online lab with lots of writing resources. It's geared toward the academic, but can be applied to fiction. [This link](

This links to the main resource page, which contains links to all sections, including Mechanics, Grammar, Punctuation and more, all with their own sub-sections.

^^EDIT

A recent edition of
The Elements of Style* is available for free here. For purists, the original 1918 edition is online here. This book is not the be-all-end-all Writing Bible, but it's useful, concise, and touted by more than one famous author.

(For people like u/ldonthaveaname, this style guide may have greater appeal.)

It's a bit lesser known, but The Ascent of Rum Doodle by W.E. Bowman is astounding.

It's a satire of all the great English mountaineering expeditions of the 20th Century, and Bill Bryson even claims in his introduction to it that he thinks it's the funniest book he's ever read.

u/doycet · 3 pointsr/Fantasy

I will never hesitate to recommend Chuck Wendig, though he may not be to everyone's taste. Blackbirds is his most recent full-length novel, with its sequel, Mockingbird, coming out next week. If you want more of a sampler platter, I'd recommend his short story collection Irregular Creatures.

For something completely different, Phil Hornshaw and Nick Hurwitch recently released So You Created a Wormhole: The Time Traveler's Guide to Time Travel, which is a book in the style The Zombie Survival Guide, except a lot funnier. I met these guys at this year's comiccon (we were on a panel together), bought the book because they cracked me up in person, and definitely didn't regret the purchase. It's a lot of fun.

The overly politically correct writing was lampooned in 1994 in this short amauzing book: https://www.amazon.com/Politically-Correct-Bedtime-Stories-Storybook-ebook/dp/B004BA5EV0

> One day an invitation arrived at their house. The prince was celebrating his exploitation of the dispossessed and marginalized peasantry by throwing a fancy dress ball. Cinderella’s sisters-of-step were very excited to be invited to the palace. They began to plan the expensive clothes they would use to alter and enslave their natural body images to emulate an unrealistic standard of feminine beauty.

> When the day of the ball arrived, Cinderella helped her mother- and sisters-of-step into their ball gowns. A formidable task: It was like trying to force ten pounds of processed nonhuman animal carcasses into a five-pound skin. Next came immense cosmetic augmentation, which it would be best not to describe at all.

Thanks for the love, guys. I'm aware this is a touch whorey, but if you enjoyed this little trifle I think you'll like my book, 'But... You're a Horse', which you can buy from Amazon here:

Books

  • Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. A great read that will forever fuel zombie conversations in the future.
  • World War Z by Max Brooks. A well done recount of the zombie war that nearly wiped humans off the planet.
  • Day By Day Armageddon by J. L. Bourne. A compelling diary-style account from the beginning of a zombie apocalypse.
  • Beyond Exile by J. L. Bourne. A sequel that picks up right where Day By Day left off.
  • The Zombie Combat Manual by Roger Ma. Meh. Just a cash-in on Max Brooks' great work with the survival guide.
  • U.S. Army Zombie Combat Skills by 'Dept. of the Army'. Lame. About as fun to read as a roll of toilet paper.
u/ALionInWinter · 11 pointsr/BoJackHorseman

From the Amazon page for the book

> From the internet mischief-maker who brought you the “Knock Knock Hijack”, in which he ran away with a friend’s Facebook joke to hilarious effect, and “Hotel Graffiti”, a series of peculiar messages hidden in hotel rooms around the world, comes “But... You’re a Horse”, a collection of pranks, anecdotes and gags that have nothing whatsoever to do with the cover of the book containing them.

On the other hand, it would probably be exactly what it looks like in the Bojack 'verse.

u/Perrythepervypus · 2 pointsr/littlespace

Beer from a baby bottle is my faves. I've also got a pretty good collection of adult parodies of little kid's books. I've got this one and this one and I've asked Santa for this one

I also recently got my green card so let the nommy special cookies and cupcakes with rainbow sprinkles commence :3

All three of John Hodgman's books (The Areas of My Expertise, More Information Than You Require, and That is All) are fantastic almanacs of made-up facts.

Hodgman has a really unique voice that shines through in his writing, and his signature move of CAPTALIZING SOME WORDS for emphasis will always be funny to me - for example:

>DECEMBER 16 1936, PARIS: Walter Benjamin writes his seminal essay "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," in which he argues that ancient works of art, such as sculpture and pottery, have an "aura" that cinema and books, which exist only as copies, do not. Benjamin went on to claim that only he could see this magical aura, and when the time was right, he would tap its energy to fuel the massive PSYCHIC RESONATOR he was developing to halt the rise of the Nazis. IT WOULD HAVE WORKED, TOO, had the Nazis not destroyed his enormous cache of urns.

I think "More" is probably the best of the three, but they all have a through-line where Hodgman charts his path from unknown Apple commercial personality to reclusive millionaire, so the whole series is worth checking out IMO.

I read a very silly but entertaining book set in late nineteenth century New York, written by Chris Elliot of all people. I recommend it.

Though they're not really full books, the Jack Handey Deep Thoughts series (1, 2, 3) are the funniest things I've ever read in my life. Twenty years later and I still start giggling if I think about them.

u/zsnesw · 3 pointsr/Unexpected

I had some little books of deep, deeper and deepest thoughts growing up. They were great. I'm so glad I can remind people these exist.

u/dizziik · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

For real though, once my grandma bought me a bunch of books from a thrift store, and This gem was hidden in the pile. I got halfway through the first chapter and asked my mom if she's read it. She snatched it away from me and called my grandma asking why she had purchased me an "adult" novel. We still laugh about it today.

You are in good company. John Hodgman explains in great detail in his apocalyptic book That Is All exactly what part the Big Dog robot will play in the end of the world.

Although technically, it is a fleet of the robots, called Dogstorm.

u/TheHYPO · 20 pointsr/LateShow

This title and thread was so confusing to me.

He announced the book on purpose. The book is a collection of Trump quotes compiled by the Late Show staff, leading to the book being billed as "by Donald J. Trump (by accident)":

My NEO sample sale purchase is finally on it's way for delivery today. I never had any doubt that some equitable solution would be found (refund, new pair, or hold-on-a-second so we can make a sample of something, etc.) After all this time, they went with a new pair of catumets apparently, though I don't know any more details of what I'm getting, but I'm excited nonetheless!

Also, bought the Star Wars Kama Sutra for the girl I'm seeing. Perfect "early into our dating, but still a meaningful, personal gift." (She's into star wars, buddhist, and crass).
