>AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE

I just want to take this chance to say how amazing Amazon customer service is. Last week I ordered a new Kryptonite disc lock (after a few years my old one started to suck). Somehow I received a Ryzen 1700X CPU instead. I contacted Amazon and they overnighted my lock and said I could keep the CPU as a "gift."

The best part is that I was planning on a Ryzen build but two weeks ago my old bike kicked the bucket so I had to use the funds I was going to spend on the new PC on getting a new bike.

So, thanks Amazon! It might just be a write-off to you but it was a really big deal to me :)

There's not much point getting a disk lock that's stronger than your disk, so you really don't need to go all-out on toughness. If you get a padlock type (like all the ones you've mentioned) then you can lock it over your chain and sprocket at the back rather than a disk, which I think is both more secure and generally deals better with accidental rideaways, and you can use it to chain the bike to things when there's a chain handy.

Of those, I'd probably get the Nemesis since it's got the Sold Secure Gold (and the same-priced Monster seems to not), but you can get the alarmed version for that sort of money:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/OXFORD-BOSS-ALARM-ULTRA-STRONG/dp/B000R57X2Q

and I'd say the alarm's more useful than a little bit of toughness. That's not a great alarmed lock but mine was absolutely fine.

That said, as an addition to my padlock-and-chain (a Kryptnonite Evolution) I just got the cheaper Abus alarmed lock (it's still ~£100) and I'm happy with it so far:

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/59283

It won't fit a chain (but I don't need it to), reliably goes off when the bars are turned, but not when I put my helmet on the mirror and can be fitted one-handed. The only downside (which is often viewed as a feature) is that it's easy to put it on without arming the alarm.

This disk lock/alarm thingy I got off Amazon is pretty cheap and awesome, if you’re looking to up your lock game.

It’s designed for motorcycles, but I lock it to my bike sometimes when I’m downtown, and it’s great. It’s loud enough to make ears bleed, and won’t let the wheels turn to ride it away, even if they could stand the sound.

u/addy8 · 3 pointsr/MotoUK

Alarm no, GPS tracker yes. (if you are buying from a dealer you can often get a tracker thrown in or at least a very high discount)

At home you want a ground anchor with a high quality chain like a Pragmasis or Almax (16 or 19mm) and a high quality disk lock.

Fore when you park on the street take a 13mm Pragmasis noose chain, a high quality disk lock like a Abus 8077 and a cover like Oxford Aquatex.

Getting security at first seems expensive but if you are investing a few thousand on a bike then you need to invest a good % on security.

Get a bike alarm, disc brake lock works amazing check this out https://www.amazon.com/YOHOOLYO-Motorcycle-Padlock-Motorcycles-Bicycles/dp/B01M4MG0YT/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1510777301&sr=8-4&keywords=disc+brake+lock this is the one i use and it works great and is super loud if anyone touches my bike at all.

u/ka36 · 7 pointsr/Cartalk

Try a motorcycle alarm in the driver's side door pocket (and leave the door unlocked). The cheap ones are about $10, but are still loud enough to possibly get them to move on after opening the door. [This] (https://www.amazon.com/Mengshen-Wireless-Vibration-Motorcycle-Anti-Theft/dp/B00QIEVI4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537238528&sr=8-1&keywords=motorcycle+alarm) is one I used for a while (on an actual motorcycle), and I was pretty happy with it. Battery only lasted about 3 months though.

u/XxGas-Cars-SuckxX · 1 pointr/ebikes

i shoved this under the seat with some black zip ties. easy.

the disc lock doesnt get installed although mounting it would be neat. maybe weld it. just put it on when you go inside.

Sadly the GPS alarm uses a network that’s going down in a year. They give you 50% off the v2 that isn’t out yet so it effectively makes the v1 free if you buy the V2...which you’ll need to if you want to keep the function. For $30, I’m okay with all that. You just install it on the bottle holder or make/buy one of their other options.

u/reize · 1 pointr/motorcycles

You can try using this or this.

Disc locks are useful. And for good measure you can use a bicycle lock on the rear wheel and lock it to a immobile object like a street lamp.

u/KIDSINHEAT · 2 pointsr/supermoto

I've got a disc loc with a loud alarm on it, I park outside in the lot at my apartments. If anyone moves it I'll know, plus the theft insurance is great piece of mind.

u/ForceTouch · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I just bought this. Real nice. Easy to put on and remove.

u/phaselinebravo · 20 pointsr/raleigh

On my motorcycle I keep a brake disc lock alarm, it's a pretty good deterrent, If it gets moved it lets out a warning chirp, then if it gets touched again a blaring 110Db alarm goes off, it would no doubt startle the dude, and alert you to someone messing with it. They're super cheap and worth every penny. Even if it doesn't fit on your brake discs you could easily attach it to the spokes if you had to.

Got it from amazon, it does not even have a brand name or anything and the box was in crappy auto translate english :D

Was around 20€ and works perfect, I see some for 50-80 but i have no idea what could make them better.

might be this one https://www.amazon.com/Tchipie-Motorcycle-Padlock-Reminder-Motorbike/dp/B07G9XDSRC/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=lock+brake+alarm&qid=1562795248&s=gateway&sr=8-1

u/OpusThePenguin · 1 pointr/NewRiders

My bike has a helmet lock but without a D-ring it doesn't really work well. I bought a steel coiled cable sort of like this. I can lock my helmet to the bike lock and rest it on the seat. Typically though I take it in with me whenever I can.

I live in a small area though and can by 99% sure my helmet would be fine locked on the seat or even if I just left it hanging unlocked on my handlebars, but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

u/Kibaku · 1 pointr/MotoUK

I like the oxford ground lock, it may be thinner but it's wider overall so means more cutting required.

Also a 120db Disc lock scares the shit out of scrotes

u/Xidium426 · 1 pointr/DRZ400

Something like this would work. I cannot speak on this exact one as I don't have it and have never tested.

Anything within a budget any good? Looking at an Oxford Alarmed Disklock which seemed good. What would you suggest for a disk lock and chain?

u/jkon731 · 2 pointsr/ebikes

This is the disc brake lock that I am planning on getting in case anybody is interested. I know that it's not enough by itself but I like the alarm function on it that goes off when the lock is tampered with or the bike is moved.

u/KenBalbari · 1 pointr/scooters

For that low a price, I'd think the best deterant would be something with an alarm. Like this, for example, disk brake + alarm.

u/reeldazed · 2 pointsr/Denver

I keep these on my Harley when I am not on it, one on the front and one on the rear. Can't steal it if you can't move it.

One option may be this wheel lock with a built in alarm.

I'm planning to get one of these easy to install alarms that is self contained and you just put under the seat.

Works like a charm.

u/strongbow1800 · 1 pointr/locksport

I can tell you that this Kryptonite disc brake lock is a disc detainer (no pun intended).

https://amzn.com/B008N82D2E

u/ninjaontour · 2 pointsr/northernireland

I've personally seen 3 hoods in broad daylight (about 1PM) stealing a motorbike from that spot. One on either side holding it up, while the third lay on his back on the seat and kicked the fuck out of the handlebars to try and break the steering lock.

If you've got a disc lock, you should be fine parking wherever you like. I've never had any problems with a good visible Kryptonite lock.

u/RavenOdette · 1 pointr/scooter

I felt the same when I first got mine, would barely let it out of my sight when I parked it.

But look at it this way, try and pick it up, the things aren't exactly light, so it's unlikely someone is going to walk off with it, between that and the kill switch and you should be fine in most places.

If you feel better with some extra security though one of these things or a heavy duty bike chain and lock should be good

GHB Alarm Disc Lock Anti Theft Lock Security Alarm Disc Disk Lock Padlock with Alarm Sound 120db for Motorcycles, Bicycles and Scooters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M4MG0YT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7za9ybY3VV055

u/akerro · 10 pointsr/Cardiff

You can get a £30 disk-lock for motorcycles, some are very sensitive, others less, but they will trigger alarm when bike is touched or moved. Most alarms dont stop ringing after being broken, so it attracts attention from people around. Bike thieves don't expect sound alarm on a pushbike.

I have something like this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anti-theft-Motorcycle-Waterproof-Security-Motorbike/dp/B075MG4FNQ

If you want something bigger and attach it to chain, get something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/OXFORD-BOSS-ALARM-ULTRA-STRONG/dp/B000R57X2Q

All are small enough to put to pocket and cycle comfortably around.

u/copsh · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Unless you are constantly within earshot of an alarm, I find it hard to imagine being of much use. No-one pays attention to car alarms any more. In my opinion a better idea would be to fit some kind of tracking device which alerts you via text when the bike has been moved.

I've heard mixed things about this lock - all seem to suffer the same problem of either being not sensitive enough, or too sensitive and being set off by wind/rain
http://www.amazon.co.uk/OXFORD-BOSS-ALARM-ULTRA-STRONG/dp/B000R57X2Q

u/dnorm00 · 3 pointsr/boostedscooters

for those concerned with locking it up outside...a few pro tips:

  1. Use a kryptonite New York U lock. Decent amount of choices in that line...I use this one: extra long heavy duty u lock
  2. For extra protection also use a disc brake lock, the one i use is here: Kryptonite Disc Brake Lock
  3. Strap a loud ass alarm to it. I have this one, and can tell you it will deter someone from trying to mess with the above two heavy duty locks...It's absurdly loud, even by busy NYC street standards: absurdly loud, remote lockable alarm
  4. Lock it in areas with consistent street traffic and doubly confirm the structure you are locking to is firmly in place
u/hax0rmax · 1 pointr/scooters

it does get a little annoying when the wind blows. However, no one has stolen my buddy Italia. There have been many scooter thefts in Philly lately, but for some reason not mine. They did take my cover once though... my wife suspects they were scoping the scooter until the alarm went nuts.

Cheap as hell for the protection. https://www.amazon.com/YOHOOLYO-Motorcycle-Padlock-Motorcycles-Bicycles/dp/B01M4MG0YT/
