Hey. Thanks for the reply!
If I'm not mistaken, the vfr has clipons, so you will have to buy handlebars and clamps, as well as new brake lines. I'm changing my clipons to handlebars on my SV so these links are for that bike specifically, but the process should be pretty similar, although it helps that I can get a longer clutch cable from the naked version of my bike.

I'm buying all the parts new, but if you can find a guy that saves motorcycle parts (maybe he used to own a shop or flips bikes) that will save you money. Here is what I have bought:

At first I only used this Cardo Scala G4 which installs into almost any helmet. Now I mainly use it just for music. The playback controls are super easy.
Very recently I added a Battery Tender cigarette adapter along with this Ram Handle Bar Base and my existing Ram X-Grip Mountwith a 1" socket arm. I just took it on a good 2 day ride and loved it completely.
The Hill Country is great! I highly recommend you get the butler map for it. It rates the best roads in the area. Most dealerships and motorcycle shops in the area sell it. Or just get it off Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Butler-Motorcycle-Maps-Texas-Country/dp/B00RWS52N8/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=2LZFMNE4FHKF7&keywords=butler+maps+texas+hill+country&qid=1557362541&s=gateway&sprefix=butler+maps+hill%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-1-fkmrnull
I've tried a few.
I have ended up with the following for three bikes:

The last one attaches to your handlebars, the middle goes in the middle, and the "X-Claw" holds the phone.
I commute ~19 miles a day in an urban environment. I have hopped curbs with this setup successfully and Icebiked over rough uneven icy/snowy terrain.
It probably would not be good enough for single-track or similar.
It has an added benefit in that the design works for almost any smartphone.
The spring in the first one I bought three years ago got soft this summer so I bought the "X-Claw" part to replace it. (which is nice - you fix only the part that isn't working).
Its an awesome setup - I recommend it.
Yes I like the more compact looking, is very attractive and functional.
I bought the brackets from Amazon (HTT Group Black 1" 25mm Motorcycle HandleBar 10mm Mirror Thread Mount Holder Clamp Adaptor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HHRV28C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cUaSAbA2CEB6C)
and I had to buy the adapter for the thread, RH to LH as one of the mirror has inverted thread. I bought the adapter at www.mikesxs.net, I bought 2 so that the final length will match, look for part# 16-4662 and 16-4660.
Or you can buy a new set of mirrors on Amazon without the need of adapters, just make sure you match the thread size on the brackets and the mirrors...
Looks like stock mirrors that were flipped. You can find clamps on eBay or Amazon.
These are the ones I've used. Super easy to set up.

It's a Ram mount, it's a handlebar mount but I bolted it through a shelf I have behind the windshield instead. It works well, it's out of the wind and high enough to see clearly. I can take a picture of it later if you like. I did install a 12v socket, I ran a new circuit off of the battery instead of tapping into something.
These look the same for $15.95 - do you see any meaningful differences? Thanks for posting about these, very useful! TMS® 7/8" 1" Motorcycle Handlebar Chrome White Dial Clock Temp Thermometer for Suzuki Honda Kawasaki Yamaha Harley Davidson https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ECGP5E4
I don't cycle but I use Ram mounts to attach my phone to my scooter.
First, you're going to need the part that mounts to your bike. You could use the [U-Bracket] (https://www.amazon.com/Zinc-Coated-U-Bolt-Mounting-Base/dp/B0012TWRAO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-7&keywords=ram+mount) or if you don't want to permanently attach it to your bike, you could get a [Claw.] (https://www.amazon.com/Mounts-RAP-B-400U-Tough-Claw-Diameter-Rubber/dp/B00JQNRTDI/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902471&sr=8-18&keywords=ram+mount)
Next, you're going to need the [arm.] (https://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Composite-Double-Socket/dp/B0074WMQLS/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-14&keywords=ram+mount) They sell different sizes so you're going to have to determine which size suits you best.
And the last thing you're going to need is the X-Mount. I suggest the [Large X-Mount] (https://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Universal-X-Grip-Phablet/dp/B00C7B2NV4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-13&keywords=ram+mount) for the LG G5.
I have added [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AWRCJO/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_AemiDb2ZS6KD9 via @amazon) to a few bikes with good success.
The SlipGrips made for a specific phone case are the best. Pops right in and and stays in without a stupid rubber band thing.

Depends. I live on the gulf south. I wouldn't pay extra for heated grips, although both of my BMW's have had them and I use them.
But, for OP, get waterproof gloves as they will be wind proof too. And see what temps they are rated to, if you can find that info, like you can for sleeping bags.
Just like for your body, layers help. Wear glove liners too. There are also these things. That's just the first link I could find, not a recommendation.
And heated gloves are also a thing. I'd more likely pay for that than grips.
Hi
I have a playseat challenge which is similar to your chair and I found an old reddit post that suggested using these handlebar mirror mounts (can’t see to find it now) but google playseat challenge shifter mount DIY and images pop up
CICMOD Universal Motorcycle Handlebar Mirror Mount 10mm 7/8" Black Aluminum Clamp https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014KRBJX0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yB6yDbKAWRKYE
Nice cheap option
I adapted the design a bit to fit my needs and bought longer screws from Screwfix so I could add a strip of wood. See pics below of mine
https://i.imgur.com/lItkI8g.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/B5dQUbk.jpg
It’s a bit crude at the moment as I used a bit of old architrave just so I could get playing but my plan is to buy a new piece of wood and paint it black. If I ever stop playing for 5 minutes to do it.
Hope this helps
I’m currently racking my brain for a way to use these to mount an old 24” monitor on the chair :p
i have added hazard lights on a dirt bike (fun project). I could not find any kits out there so I had to build everything from scratch.
The basic idea is the following: get a switch (actually they make hazard switches, search on ebay or amazon for one) and feed it 12 Volts. The positive from the switch goes to a separate (dedicated flasher) from your turn signals flasher and then to the turn signals.
Now the tricky part: you will need to install diodes on the positive side on all the turn signals so it does not feed back to the system.
So, it is not difficult, but not a novice job as well. By the way, I fed the hazard switch directly from the battery, so it has power even when the key is not on the bike (the way it is supposed to be).
I am planning to do this on my R1 next.
Hmm i think i know what you're talking about but i did not know you could lock the throttle with them. Are you talking about the black plastic thing that slides on over the throttle and has a place to rest your palm? or a different type of device?
This is the one that im familiar with but im very interested if there is one that you can lock the throttle with.
the arm
the Base
Holster ball attachment
I attached mine to the seat adjustment bar under my seat since I didn’t want to screw into to my dash. I used this bar clamp that way I can easily take it with me if I ever use a rental vehicle or something
Don’t wanna use a separate holster? Ram mount pistol clip
It is an '82 XS400 special. It ran from 77 to 82. I have drag bars, but left all the cables the original length. The horn bracket got flipped upside down so I could access it/install a new one. I made a bracket that attaches to the bar running down in front of the engine to hold to LED fog lights, run by an auxiliary switch. Painted and wrapped the headers and have emgo shorty mufflers. Emgo pod filters, and a puck-style filter for the breather tube nipple. Led tails, led indicator lights, Upgraded headlight. Point of note on the headlight, mine was a sealed beam halogen. So to add a new bulb you have to buy an aftermarket reflector housing from candlepower.
EDIT: Also forgot Oury grips, cafe mirrors, new fuel lines, fuel filter and vacuum tube.

Not exactly what you're asking for but may be useful:

If you want stronger bars, get some Pro Taper EVO 1-1/8" bars. Yamaha does sell a handlebar clamp set that is just like stock except it's for 1-1/8" handlebars. I had this exact setup on my WR250X and I didn't have to mess with cable lengths at all.

Handlebar muffs my friend. Complete game changer.
I have this one and it rules. It will stretch to hold whatever size your phone is and it is super grippy. Also, when you take your phone out, it looks like nothing and isn't likely to be stolen.

You get the u bolt one like this?

Not my video or bike, just a random grab from ride I have participated in.
That is a route sheet holder. Like this. https://www.amazon.com/Side-Sheet-Holder-Hardware-Universal/dp/B0068FXCPG
$47 aint that bad dude
or $57
if you want cheap you're not getting a ram mount.
I use this one
Works well enough, and it's universal.
So my setup is similar to /u/RocketGrouch but a bit more rudimentary. The over view is Ram mount, usb cable, battery tender pigtail to usb connector.
Ram mount parts I used: handlebar mount, connector bracket, phone holder.
I already had a battery tender setup, so figured using this was a no brain-er.
Then I used these cloth braided cables. Didn't know how much length I'd need, but the 6.5 feet was perfect for my use. Allowed me to tuck it around my tank, under my speedo housing shroud and discretely to the handle bars without slack that would risk getting caught.
Certainly not the prettiest solution out there, but I only use this set-up sparingly and store it in my rear bag.
OP you need to buy the Ram Motorcycle Mount.
These are the three pieces I bought. You can pick different arm lengths, depending on where you think you will be placing it:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TWRAO/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UGZTQO/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You'd need an Extension Arm (longer ones are available if necessary) and a Bar Mount.
I have mitts that slip over the bars so you can wear regular gloves without getting too cold. They’re lined with fur of some sort and leather on the outside.

I also have enduro engineering full wrap handguards and they slip right over.

I put over 7,000 miles, mostly highway on my dual sport with this mount. I have 2 bikes and will keep using these until I find a reason not to. Like a brand new bike Ailun Bike & Motorcycle Cell... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KF3KRBI?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought a RAM mount that clamps to the bar next to the Nav. I tend to use my handlebar location more because the phone covers the instruments some, especially with the windshield lowered all the way.
This Generic on from Amazon. It works good, no complaints.
