> A potent flashlight that has a strobe function

I've thought about ordering one of these cheapo taser flashlights to see if they are remotely decent. Reviews on Amazon seem pretty good, but I have no experience with them.

I do like that it looks like a regular flashlight, and just shining that in someone's face is something that is passive yet ruins their night vision and would be cool to follow up with a taser jab to the neck if they persist in theory.

Ok, so that [stun gun] (https://smile.amazon.com/VIPERTEK-VTS-881-Micro-Rechargeable-Flashlight/dp/B01F8KL3T8/ref=cm_wl_huc_item) is amazeballs. Seriously. I carry a pocket knife with me when I'm out and about, that stun gun would be much better haha!

Balloons are fun!

Something like this can be a helpful non-lethal means of personal protection: Guard Dog Security 6000000-volt Flashlight Stun Gun

u/Aghast_Cornichon · 1 pointr/legaladvice

The old joke among cops and nurses is that "the winner of a knife fight is the one who dies in the hospital".

The legality of stun gun style weapons varies by jurisdiction in Maryland and the pendulum seems to be swinging back toward legalization; Annapolis rescinded their ban and Baltimore doesn't enforce theirs.

As cheap as it is, I carry this little sucker whenever I'm walking at night. I've only ever used it to illuminate the dogshit I'm picking up, but having the dual function is a nice supplement.

> Do they still claim that it produces hundreds of thousands of volts? Lol.

Nope. SEVEN MILLION VOLTS

If any of ya'll are interested it also functions as a flashlight:

This was recommended to me on Amazon when I bought luggage one time.

I like this one because it is purple and he will think it is a flashlight until it is too late. For ten bucks you can find yourself wanting him to return for an encore.

u/GordonFremen · 3 pointsr/BetterEveryLoop

You can buy demonstrator guns for cheap that would work well for this.

u/bmg50cal · 1 pointr/flashlight

I would suggest the Wowtac A1S BSS Version. The regular A1S is a very durable all around edc light and this version comes with a detachable strike bezel. You could also go with a stun flashilght like this

Here are the ones I've looked at so far...

I'd like to find ones with higher voltage if possible, but some of these don't seem to have much info on that in the descriptions...

u/TheWalkingDev · 3 pointsr/LosAngeles

get one of these and tell him to back the funk off.

u/dreambag · 1 pointr/Truckers

I've never had to use the tazer (knock on wood) but the flashlight is handy. Also cheap.

I have this one. I have never used it, on anyone else or on myself accidentally. It is really set up so you couldn't accidentally tase yourself.

u/The_Write_Stuff · -1 pointsr/uberdrivers

I have a stun gun that looks like a flashlight, like this one. I also routinely carried a gun. The only time I ever needed either I was actually conflicted about whether to stun him or shoot him. Fortunately the gf stepped in and talked him off the ledge.

I just got me one of these suckers. I'm more likely to run away if attacked, but if that's not an option I would like a discrete, non-lethal weapon.

u/karncart · 3 pointsr/OSU

Stun guns and tasers are different, correct. Stun guns shoot those strings that connect with the assailant, a taser will only shock the person if it comes in contact with their body. The state of Ohio is very lenient with tasers. As long as they are only used for self defense, they’re perfectly within the law. Also, I would rather face penalties of the law than be raped or abducted. Coming from a girl who has already been followed this first week or so of school. Anyways, here’s the one I have, highly recommend it.

My short answer and best advice to you is:

Do not put yourself in a situation you can not comfortably get out of. Do not put yourself in a situation that can or will likely lead to a situation you can not comfortably get out of.

My long answer for posterity:

"Safe" is a relative term, something that is safe for me may not be safe for you. Austin has had a lot of issues lately with violence and sexual assault, In this context I would ask yourself the following:

  1. Are you trained and comfortable with situational awareness as well as self defense?

  2. Are you familiar with the layout of your destination and have you done a quick mental risk assessment of its different areas?

  3. Will you look like an easy target?

If you cant confidently say yes, yes, no to those questions why take the risk? Just go to the gym, hit the trails during the day with light and heavier foot traffic.

Lastly as for the taser recommendation, its not the worst suggestion but not the best imo. If they are close enough for you to taze you are already in deep shit and behind the 8 ball. Get a long throw pepper spray Do not let someone who makes you uncomfortable and wont leave you alone within reaching distance, spray them and beat feat to safety. You can carry the taser as a last ditch backup. In fact they sell combo taser / flashlights so you can kill two birds with one stone. Vipertek VTS-T03

Just my 2 cents on your question.
u/NeighborhoodATFAgent · 3 pointsr/preppers

Just want to clarify something before I throw down my recommendations.

Are you wanting a stun gun (requires skin to prong contact, no darts)

Or an actual taser (like Police Carry)?

Also, just for you knowledge Tasers/Stun Guns are notoriously unreliable. If any of the the prongs (both types) fail to make contact with the skin they won't be effective.

Stuff like heavy coats, loose fitting shirts and sometimes just outright bad luck render tasers ineffective.

To directly answer your question:

The Taser C2 imo is a good rookie starting point, but tasers are incredibly expensive, while stun guns are a little bit cheaper, the problem is you need to be in physical contact with that individual.

Alternatively you might want to look at Pepper Spray or Mace, which have a far lower failure rate.

Edit: totally forgot to include links to what I was talking about.
