Okay, here's my recommended loadout for you: (using your $1k budget)

Gun: Tokyo Marui Recoil Shock M4 SOCOM $460 Test firing video of gun

And yes, despite all the Tokyo Marui stigma that all their electric guns are cheap plastic, the new ones (since 2009) are made of metal.

Mags x3-5 $75-$125

Battery and Charger

Most Tokyo Marui guns hold their values really well, and they perform well too. Most guns, when you open the box, they instantly lose 1/3 of their value from you just touching it. But Tokyo Marui guns have a reputation of being reliable and pretty rare outside of Japan, so they hold their values much better, usually at 80% of original, or sometimes if you find the right buyer it'll hold 100% of their value. Not to mention they perform very good and have superb accuracy right out of the box. The Socom M4 also has a unique bolt lock (like the Systema PTW) and a simulated recoil function that provides feedback when you shoot it. Downside to this gun is that you need to buy special magazines for the gun to feed, or buy an adapter. So if you somehow don't like Airsoft, then you can resell this gun for basically MSRP.

Shirt: Voodoo Tactical Combat shirt $30 Best combat shirt, very breathable, has zippers to vent armpits as well.

Plate Carrier: Shellback Tactical Banshee plate carrier $130 Pretty much a real steel plate carrier, one of the best you can buy, and is not that bulky for better mobility.

Dump pouch: Any dump pouch will do, $15

Mag pouches: I use a condor one $20 (because I'm cheap) but I've tried a HSGI Taco pouch $30 each and they're pretty good... But pretty expensive

Eye Protection: If you play outdoors and want goggles, I can't really give you a recommendation here, but I play indoors and I use a full facemask the dye i4. It fits really well to your face, is low profile, and never fogs.

I would use the remaining money on gun equipment to make to make it more "OPERATORZ"

G&P red dot sight Eotech 551 clone $60

Magpul PTS Handguards $20

Magpul MOE vertical Grip $20 will only work with the MOE hand guards above

>I don't know what you mean by "based on what you think you will like best" on the FCs, to me (at least right now while I'm a noob) they are just a circuit board I don't really know the difference but I have read good things about the Naze32 and the Flip32 is a clone so I'm assuming I should go with that one?

I prefer the Flip/Naze 32 over the CC3d because I don't like the plastic connectors on the CC3d. That being said, they both run my preferred FC firmware, cleanflight.

>Is the FPV set that I chose really that bad?

Yes, I own the quanum V1, and ended up spending another $120 doing a DIY Headplay HD headset.

The quanum V2 are a significant upgrade, great for beginners or experienced pilots. My friend /u/mycodude owns one and for the price they are hard to beat. The price diff between the V2 and V1 is less than $30 but the XP is worth more than that.

The camera wont break often, so it is better to just buy a quality one and not need to replace it later since the best camera you can buy is only $35 it doesn't make sense to buy a lower quality one or a more expensive one.

The VTX/VRX and Antennas were ok, but my rc802 is stuck on one freq and /u/mycodude died completely.

We both upgraded to the fr632 and have not had issues since.

If you do pick up the diversity rx I linked, also pick up a directional antenna while you are at it.

I posted this earlier as a request, so I wanted to share my solution for anybody else that was searching.

Light is a Nitecore TM26. At first, I just had the included holster attached with a carabiner, but with its weight it swung way too much. The belt loops on the holster are too big to fit into MOLLE straps, and I think it would start to unravel if I tried to cut them down.

First, I tried the Spec-Ops X4 pouch, because I somehow thought the dimensions were right. Its much to big for the light.

The X2, however, is the perfect fit. Holds the light VERY snugly, almost like it was designed for it.

For mags, I hear great things About the Wilson Combat mags.. personally, I like the model 500, which is the "Elite Tactical" with ETM base pad the 47D is also a super common one, but I find that the 47D, when loaded with 8 rounds, is really tight to load on a closed slide. the 'Elilte Tactical' has a more physically manageable base pad, and does not have the hard-to-seat quality that the 47D has. Others have suggested another brand, but I can't remember which. I think 10-round mags are out, since things need to fit in the box.

for pouches, I normally use some cheap amazon 'loglife tactical' pouches.. they've got ridges inside that work for single stack as well as for my double-stack mags. (bullets-out, not bullets-forward, if that matters to you)
https://www.amazon.com/Loglife-Tactical-Magazine-Portable-Polymer/dp/B01K6V78JS/ref=pd_sbs_200_img_0/136-8492739-6580721?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01K6V78JS&pd_rd_r=650a78ea-0dc2-4ca5-bd34-fc4a3ca786cf&pd_rd_w=l7pNb&pd_rd_wg=B8iTb&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=NZZ72XRS8VCFSJGJM962&refRID=NZZ72XRS8VCFSJGJM962

I like bullets out, because it's narrower than bullets forward, so fitting six mags on a belt behind your hipbones makes it easier to reach the furthest back mag.

for holsters, I've made my own for my P80 and my Glock, but I'll probably just use the Safariland when I get around to shooting single stack (still need to machine the front dovetail for a fiber optic, and get rid of the staked-in GI sight.)

for other avenues of information: /r/competitionshooting is a good one, as well as the brian enos forums, etc...

Enjoy!

u/faykin · 4 pointsr/CompetitionShooting

I'd suggest you re-asses your priorities.

You are just starting out in competition. That's great! You're going to have a lot of fun!

However, you'll be shooting against folks who've been playing this game for a while. You're not going to come in, sweep the field, and come home with a first place trophy, a new car, and a magnum of champagne.

If you aren't shooting to win, that means you need a different set of goals. Here's your 3 goals for the first few matches you shoot:

  1. Be safe.

  2. Enjoy the match.

  3. Don't get disqualified.

That's it. Until you get used to the range commands, safety procedures, engagement order, reload with retention, emergency reload, blah blah blah, those 3 things are more important than your score, or even your hits. You need to get good at the game before you can become competitive, and there's no substitute for experience.

What this means is your firearm choice doesn't matter. You can go out there with a $100 meme high-point and achieve your inaugural goals just as well as you could with a $6000 custom Ajax 2011. So take your G43 out.

Get a kydex holster and 2-4 mag holsters from Amazon today. It's $40 and you'll have them in plenty of time for this weekend. Feel free to go fancy and get better gear, but that $40 I linked will get you started.

Now that you have a line on the gear you need, no excuses, get out there this weekend. But the only IDPA match is 100 miles away? Drive. You haven't taken the safety class yet? That's your task this weekend. The only safety class is 100 miles away? You know what to do. No excuses.

For bonus points, you'll be shooting in the BUG (back-up gun) division. You'll be competing against others with low capacity compacts. You don't have to worry about how those custom 2011 shooters are doing, because they are in a different division. You might be pleasantly surprised at how you place in your division with your 43... but don't expect champagne or a trophy.

There you go, you've got your marching orders. Order your gear today, get signed up for a match and/or a safety class for this weekend, and then study. Here's your study material:

Not quite what you're looking for (used gear), but I've been doing just fine with a basic "all Triple K" rig of....

  • Two Cheyenne holsters ($73)

  • Slide on shot shell carrier ($30)

  • Slide on cartridge holder ($34)

  • Plain belt ($31)

    Total cost: $241.

Not cheap, but a lot less than the custom stuff and I've zero complaints about the quality.

My son runs similar equipment but saved a whopping $10 by going with a Hunter slide on cartridge carrier. Mostly I think he just didn't want a rig identical to mine.

And my loaner gear (for when I invite friends out)? Saves a bit more by skipping the cartridge holder, and going with a Vebstlife shot shell holder ($16) and a cheap Dickies work belt ($15) for a total cost of $175. Not nearly as nice, but hey, it's loaner gear!

Obviously, if you can pick up something used you can beat those prices but its equally obvious that it's going to be hard to predict what's out there. I'm also quite sure there are also cheaper rigs out there. But based on the homework I've done, it's going to be hard to beat the cost/quality combination of the Triple K stuff (although if someone knows of better I'm eager to be corrected!).

edit: While I've used Amazon links to show the gear, I ended up going directly through the Cowboy Shooting Store for the Triple K gear (same price as Amazon and I support small business when I can).

For pants you are going to need navy cargo pants which can be picked up from amazon or your local army surplus store. Your best bet for the shirt would be under armor or similar compression shirt. Unless you're willing to settle for black, the shoulder holster is going to be tricky. This is what I could find on amazon Brown Black. Leg holster Gloves.
A rock climbing harness can be expensive and now look like you want it to, I would suggest leaving it out (you will be more comfortable walking around, trust me) or getting some nylon webbing and making your own. Good luck with your gender bent Leon!

u/MughalPrince22 · 1 pointr/CCW

I'll paste my comment from a similar thread.

I've been using these daily for a few weeks now with G19 and G43 mags. Super comfortable, forget that it's there when I place it in the opposite "appendix" carry crease to where my gun is (11 o'clock). Works at 7-9 o'clock for me too. I've shot at the range with it, mags come out easy, holder stays on my belt. G43 mags take a little bit more finesse to get out, but with the pinky extensions I have on them it's not too bad. Are they the fastest most reliable reload option out there, no. Are they super convenient, comfortable, and cheap, yes. A reason I like it more than the sidecar holsters is cause I often carry IWB in a stealthgear, so I can still carry an extra mag in that setup too.

Guess it depends on how you want your mags to be secured. I was originally gonna go with the Matrix triple SMG mag pouch that Evike sells but it went out of stock like the day I bought my equipment. Found this on Amazon instead and yeah, it's a knockoff Chinese brand but they my Vector mags fit nice and snug. I was originally gonna use the elastic retention because I feel the velcro would be too noisy but the tightness of the pouches themselves work perfect.

u/apachexmd · 2 pointsr/airguns

I like the Mtm ammo belt pouch. It has a nice secure hinged lid but pops open easily when needed. It's also has nice rounded inside corners so even the last few pellets are easily snagged from inside the case. It's handy to have to pouch right on my belt for easy access. And lastly it's cheap at about 3 bucks.

You will not find anything more efficient than an AR 15. This is repeated constantly here.

It is a semi automatic rifle that has the capacity of 30 rounds typically(state pending) at once. It's ergonomics are incredible in how you can adjust every aspect of the rifle to suit you individually. You can (with the correct stamp) turn a 500 dollar S&W MP sport 2 with a 16 inch barrel to a short barrel rifle with a 10 inch barrel (or 7.5 inch) with as much ease as using lincoln logs. It shoots a medium cartridge that has more energy behind it than a pistol cartridge, however, due to it's .223 bullet, with a softpoint/hollowpoint, has less penetration power than a 9mm, while still having twice the velocity, meaning you can defend yourself at further distances, while also not running into the issue of over penetration within the home. The recoil is much more negligible to where a person of a small stature can use the firearm sufficiently with practice. You can put a myriad of optics all over the firearm, as well lights, foregrips, and slings. There is also an array of ammunition to choose from. You simply can not beat the AR 15, as it can transition from a fun plinking rifle to a great home defense rifle.

No it shot +p just fine before I changed the spring. I just changed it out of preference for a slightly stiffer spring. There are several companies that make good mag pouches. I use an old GI mag pouch when I'm hunting or hiking. But at the range I use a cheap blade-tech. It really comes down to what will work for you. As long as it is a reputable company making the product you should be good. I have been using this one for carry.

Just to give you an idea of what's out there though. If you are looking for a good holster that won't break the bank I suggest Alien Gear. They are top notch and a great value for the money. They are also one of the few companies that make holsters for railed SIG 1911's.

Oops, I lied in my previous response- I'm not using a maxpedition. This guy fits the Constellation stuff nicely: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FYPDXRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_i2zszbHVSE6HP It's smallish but it's fine for how I have it loaded.

I took several yards of the 100mph tape and wrapped it around a spend dog bag core (about film canister thick) and used Ziploc bags for waterproofing and to prevent accidental contact on the 9v and steel wool.

I'm somewhat curious about the bigger field pockets. I know the larger ones aren't designed to fit in the smaller bags but I can't see a reason that would prevent the GR1 from accommodating the gr2 FP especially if you don't care if it's attached to the internal molle or free floating. Either way, you certainly aren't required to get super fancy since it's just going into your main bag anyway

u/parametrek · 1 pointr/flashlight

Zebralight SC52 or SC5. It is pretty much the best AA flashlight you can buy, has every feature and retails for $60 to $70 depending on the model. The problem is finding one. ZL's main site is all backordered. Try to get high CRI, daylight, or neutral tint. Avoid white/cool white. Illumn has the SC52w stocked.

Does he already have Eneloop (or some other NiMH) batteries?

edit: Not sure about the holster. I know there will be holsters that fit it, but someone who has that model of ZL could probably say more. (The holsters that come with flashlights are always terrible anyway.) It does come with a sturdy clip.

edit edit: Every holster is meant for larger flashlights. A zipper pouch like the Condor i Pouch would work great though.

edit^3 : If you wanted something larger (big enough that it must be carried on a belt) Armytek's line of 2xAA lights are the best in their class. They come with holsters too. But there are many different models to choose from...

u/tobaccowhacko · 5 pointsr/cigars

Welcome to r/cigars!

First thing you need to do is get rid of that paper towel asap! You will over humidify your cigars and you might get mold too! Go to your local B&M and get a boveda pack or order one online. Then use an air tight tupperware container to hold your cigars and humidity. Super cheap and many many people use this as an option. As for building your own. Get an ammo can or a gun case and line it with spanish cedar. It will hold humidity perfectly and you'll get your woodworking skills a bit wet for your next bigger project.

u/Pastor_Zatx · 1 pointr/Goruck

You have a bunch of different options available. What I typically do is take 2 inch industrial grade adhesive velcro (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C3EPH0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and apply it where I want it. Then you can get all kinds of velcro attachable items to stick on it. If you want molle you can get panels like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C3EPH0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or this one https://www.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-Identification-Panel-Speed-Clips/dp/B002T0DX12/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493059728&sr=8-2&keywords=molle+panel+velcro

Lots and lots of choices.

You could also glue in a molle panel with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TSYNG8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or just get a needle and thread and sew it in. It's not that hard and you'll learn some important skills that can save you a lot of money!

u/ben827 · 1 pointr/Nerf

Slightly off topic (pretty relevant to the original post, though): I checked Amazon and the price for the pouches ranges from about $5-30 for one and about $25-30 for a set of 4. Just in case anyone was wondering. It's a pretty odd price range.

This is one of the better deals for a set of 4 I found on Amazon if anyone was wondering.

Here's one for a set of 2 if anyone was wondering. Not the greatest deal of all time, though.

Edit: Better deal for the set of 2.
Hope I helped some of you out.

u/BQJJ · 1 pointr/airsoft

I'm on mobile/at work but it sounds like we play in similar terrain on a similar budget, so I'll share what I've got once I get home.

Edit: So far this is what I have, in no particular order -

u/mr_dillinga · 1 pointr/Goruck

That would be great - thanks. I just checked this link https://www.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-Identification-Panel-Speed-Clips/dp/B002T0DX12/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493059728&sr=8-2&keywords=molle+panel+velcro but it appears to be meant to attach to existing molle to give you a velcro panel for patches. Your other link looks like a copy/paste of the first one. Do you actually have molle with a velco back? Closest thing I can find is this which I could cut down to size: https://www.us-elitegear.com/products/velocity-systems-molle-panel-short.

u/felcress · 1 pointr/airsoft

Thank you for the detailed answer! Here's what I have decided to get.

This wrap to protect my neck, this pith helmet, canteen, and chest rig. Would these all work well towards my loadout?

Haven't decided which one of these I should get, but this rucksack is apparently an authentic and this cheaper rucksack which is non authentic.

Also, do you know of any cheap replica Type-67 grenades I can get? I found one but it ships from china and costs 25$ a piece, 13$ to ship.

u/qa2 · 3 pointsr/ar15

I really like these. I actually never wear them but it's nice when I go to the range I just grab it and it's not a big mess of loose magazines. Plus you can hang them up or even strap them together.

I used to just carry it loose in my front left pocket but after practicing reloading it was apparent that I needed to carry it IWB. Since this picture was taken I've started using a pouch that works a lot better. Retention is just fine when it is being carried because of the added pressure of my belt.

I just keep the box for whatever I'm shooting on the bench, for 22s I recycle a few old CCI Mini Mag boxes (the clear 100rd trays) and restock them after every trip with whether bulk 22 I have. Stops them from rolling around.

If you're outside or have no bench then perhaps something like this is in order ....

Maybe this just for fun

Pick up a bunch of stripper clips for it as well.

A sling, if he doesn't have one yet.

That stuff should get you around $50, including shipping. Spend the rest on ammo.
