Structurally, this one is almost - passable. Not good, far from great - but beats a paper sack. It's only passable when it's "cage" is used. Without it's 'cage', it's pretty much a paper sack. But, that lock - it's a joke. Trivial to open with a jiggler, nail clipper or even a narrow strip of credit card.

I've ordered up a couple of these - it's a bit better, still not 'good' - but, better. IF, (big if) I can get it fitted, it may just be - usable.

I'll know better after UPS delivers the goods.

I used to teach lock picking and physical security to information security classes in college. I would lock all my tools and lock picks in a sentry safe that also uses wafer locks and then open it with either a flat head screwdriver or a paperclip. These are VERY easy to open. You can replace the lock cylinder with something more secure.

While not perfect or pick proof something like this dimple lock will add more security without costing a lot.

A latch solenoid should only be activated to unlock, and then only for a short time, lest it overheat. These should be fine for batteries. However, solenoids are generally pretty weak; any pressure, whether from spring or human pulling or warped hinge or anything will tend to bind them up. Car door locks are better. A linear actuator is very strong and reliable, but usually aren't short enough to be a latch.

You may be interested in a cabinet latch. This type has a nice "pop" open.

There is a lock that is good, mine is to stop children XD pretty cheap too, here https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019QU7R64/

You done fucked up like a schmuck. Lucky for you, this is a pretty common camlock and should be easily replaceable. You need to take your own measurements as we have no idea what the fucking size on the shit you fucked up are.

https://www.amazon.com/FJM-Security-2400AS-KA-Tubular-Cylinder/dp/B0034C6EL0/ref=sr_1_25?keywords=camlock&qid=1559070695&s=gateway&sr=8-25

Order this shit, then you see where the fucking small hole in the cam is? You screw a screw into it with nuts on both sides, add locktite and there you go. If you can't pull this off, you should throwaway your cargo box and all your tools because they are beyond your ability to use.

I guess I was literally thinking lock/key...something like this

And for ventilation, something like this

The fans could be powered by your xbox, router, etc. I have an enclosed entertainment center (because I don't think any of the crap in it is particularly attractive). We have the model in this link and it came with two options for the middle doors (glass or just like the outer doors). I have two usb fans inside (one for above the shelf and one below) that just blow out of the back of the unit. I figure it's not exactly air tight and just assume it pulls air from the front mostly. I know that it is noticeably hotter if I turn the fans off.

Nice! I got the 18 gun version with an door organizer at CT on sale as well. I was worried about using keys and losing them. I saw this on another forum and I picked one up on Amazon

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001DI059Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't installed it yet, but it seems pretty straight forward. At least now its going to be a combo lock. I might install it tonight and I'll post updates

The biggest hassle is usually the battery requirement; if you've got plenty of room in the box for batteries then it's a fun project.

There are various solenoid door latches available. I like this style because it has a pusher to open the door when it unlatches. In addition to the Arduino and a 12V battery you'll need a MOSFET or relay to pulse the latch.

Go on amazon and get a display case lock. I have glass so mine doesn’t flex but it would prevent yours from flexing out the way it attaches and locks the panels together . I’ll try to find a link to the one I bought.

Edit:

https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Finish-Stick-Showcase-Lock/dp/B000KZXJF8/ref=mp_s_a_1_26?keywords=display+case+lock&qid=1565747211&s=gateway&sprefix=display+case&sr=8-26

This is the one I have but I think any style would probably suit your needs. This one has a little arm on the lock part that goes over the outside piece of glass or plexi. Easy fix. For now maybe duct tape it on the outside or put weight on the door?

if its one like this you can unscrew it with your hand and replace it:

They should have a master key to unlock it and then you'll be able to switch it over

The rule says not to make your title something like "pls help I'm noob". In the dark eras past, there were entire streams of such posts and it makes sorting through them a pain. It's in fact encouraged to mention in the post body if you are a beginner, so you don't get thrown into the deep water :)

There's a chance your bulb uses some inconveniently high voltage to drive the LED strings, and there is a decent chance the bulb doesn't have enough current capability to power an electric lock solenoid. I said not impossible, but probably less convenient (and safe) to work around its peculiarities than making it from scratch.

You're going out of town. She's going to have a party. You might as well agree to it, so you have at least some control over it. If you refuse, and she does it anyway, it's going to be a much larger problem.

So what you do is spend a little time going over the public areas with her. Talk about what rooms and places are acceptable for guests and what ones are not. You also may want to get something like this for your bedroom door, to make sure no one goes in.

But the main reason to go over all of the public areas with her is so you can both take photos and take note of any pre-existing damage to your things, or your home. Ask her to point out anything just like if she was renting a car or completing a lease agreement for a new apartment.

Once you've agreed on where the party can take place, and the condition of the things in those areas, then you need to explain to her that any damage to your belongings will be her personal responsibility to replace. Tell her that even something so small as a scratch on the remote control will mean she has to replace your TV.

Then explain that any damage to your home or property will be professionally repaired or restored at her expense. This doesn't mean she can put you off by saying "Oh Jim-Bob broke the door handle, but he's going to replace it." It doesn't mean that she can give you 10 gallons of paint and call it even for a scratched wall, unless you agree to accept a substitution for professional repairs after assessing the damage yourself.

It doesn't matter who caused the damage, or what repayment options she's going to make with her guests if they break something. That's her problem. Instead, she will pay you back immediately, to your satisifaction. Then she can do whatever she wants about it with the person who did it.

But ultimately, it's on her. If she doesn't trust her friends to be respectful of her home, she shouldn't invite them to her party. But as long as she's willing to accept the responsibility there's no reason she shouldn't be allowed to have a party. Even if she doesn't own the place, she still pays rent and (for now) she still gets to call it home.

edit: Fixed the link, had a bunch of needless /ref garbage in it.

I think something like this would be pretty unobtrusive while adding a significant amount of reinforcement and weight distribution. Put a pair of these on the bench back/table underside and it's no different than a plaque on a bench.

u/Liberatedhusky · 2 pointsr/DIY

That Frame looks expensive in all honesty I would Consider making a frame out of aluminum tubing if you want it welded then a local shop can do it for you way cheaper than $800.

I'd also consider having the desk in two separate rectangular pieces so that you have an even surface when you separate them. You can hold them together with a table leaf lock which they use on the bottom of expanding tables to hold the halves together.

Your tray problem is essentially how far apart you place the drawer slides on either side.

You'll want a planer to level out the desktop, just a sander could take way too long, even a belt sander might save you some time.

We used these: magnetic cabinet locks Probably the best things ever made.

u/TheCopenhagenCowboy · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

What's the purpose of the lock? (I know the purpose) but does the door itself not have a lock or are you trying to keep people out who have keys like RAs?

Look at this. By looking at the design, it should work on the exterior of an outside swinging door.
