Ok. Look,’the reason these things look well together is simply because they are visually pleasing. There is nothing more or less to it. Stop searching for the why. There is no reason to the why. It just is!

The guides that people provided regarding fabrics working together is correct and a perfect guide to help keep you looking presentable at work. Patterns and cuts will change, new fabrics may be invented, but there are things that are “classic” looks especially for men that haven’t really changed much.

Button up you can pair with slacks of any color and jeans and look polished. You’d want, white, brown, black, blue.

Khaki pants look good with all the colors I mentioned above.

polos are also another option to shirts especially in warmer weather. These will also look acceptable with khakis.

As for belts and shoes, you’d want your shoes to match your belt. If you’re wearing a black belt, wear black shoes. Wear a brown belt, wear brown shoes.

The The color wheel can give you a visual ideal of what will look good together. Here is some overview of color theory to help you understand where the idea some colors look good together.

Your employee handbook is also going to outline for you what is acceptable to wear and what is not acceptable. Stay within those guidelines and find colors you like and look visually appealing to you. You’ll be fine.

In that case, to Amazon we go!

I've had a lot of success with Amazon's Goodthreads line for pants! They carry a really wide range of sizes that typically aren't available in stores, down to a 28x28, and have a bunch of different cuts & colors. Plus you can do Amazon Wardrobe if you have a prime account, which is a lifesaver if you feel awkward shopping in the mens or boys section in stores. I own like five pairs of their skinny fit chinos for work. (For reference, I'm 5'6" & weigh ~135, and I wear a 29x32 but tbh I probably wear my pants too tight hahaha. Also I've found that the chinos tend to shrink a bit in length with washing & drying, so it's better to go a bit long.) I also just figured out that some of their printed dress shirts seem to be purposefully designed to pair well with the chinos--I bought this cactus print shirt & realized that the green cacti perfectly match the olive chinos, which made me feel super put together when I noticed at work! Obviously not exactly formal wear, but if you need anything in the business casual realm, highly recommend.

Being the Basilisk-Female and Male Variations

Female Shirt

Female Pants

Female Shoes

Male Shirt

Male Pants

Male Shoes

Necklace

Fangs

Yellow Contact Lenses (Optional)

Channel your inner Basilisk with my male and female variation designs. Both the male and female versions have skin scale shirts and pants to help you appear as scaly as Salazar's serpent. The shoes for both variations are snake scaled as well, but are comfortable enough so that you can walk around in your costume. The necklace was chosen as it has a snake and the green of Salazar himself. Additionally, the fangs were chosen to represent the sharp fangs of the Basilisk and they are easy to wear. If you really want to channel the spirit of the Basilisk, opt for wearing yellow contact lenses so your eyes match the monster itself.

I also recommend wearing your hair in an S-Shaped braid like this to really hit the "S" in serpent. You may want to add a little green makeup on your face to really sell the look as well if you so desire.

You bring up a great point, and I wish I could tell you that the "be-all, end-all" decisions regarding dimensions / weight / etc. were left to CubiScan. However, those measurements and weights affect so many things in the process from the time we receive an item until it goes out the door to a customer, that there is rarely a black and white answer for things. Also, there are items we as associates question every day as to why the system states an item is sortable v. nonsortable. I've also said several times in this forum that we stretch CubiScan's capabilities beyond what its manufacturer intended because, as of right now, it's the best thing we have. CubiScan was designed to capture dimensions and weights of boxed items -- hence its name -- and it does a great job at that. But, as you all are well aware, not every item comes to us boxed. I've suggested to a couple of folks in PMs that if they want more control over the dimensional measurements of their products, send them to us pre-boxed. But, that's a cost-benefit analysis thing -- am I paying more to have an item boxed than I would be in paying for "air" in a poly bag...more on that later. Let's look at some examples based upon your plastic totes comment...and some other things that pop up as well...I hope reddit let's me link to items on the AMZN site. These items are chosen based upon our experiences with them, so disregard the brand, etc. and consider the items themselves. Here we go...

  1. This item easily fits within the confines of one of our totes, but is it a sortable item? I draw your attention to the fact that this item weighs 99 pounds.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NY7MCTI/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1

  2. This item can be physically folded several times, but would you want to receive a $500 item folded six or seven times and crammed into a small box to save on shipping? https://www.amazon.com/Versace-Collection-Applique-Trousers-Black/dp/B0718Y9HFJ/ref=sr_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1520453592&sr=8-45&keywords=versace+apparel+for+men

  3. Let's assume this item doesn't come boxed from the manufacturer [in reality, it does], but rather, the manufacturer poly bags it UNFOLDED, with the bag being slightly larger than 3' X 5'. Our packers are not given time to fold items and are prompted by the system on which size box to select based upon items being packed. Do we measure the item as it is in-hand, or CubiScan it folded? How many folds? https://www.amazon.com/SolarGuard-Specifications-Annin-Flagmakers-145660/dp/B0018ZUBDW/ref=sr_1_9?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1520453937&sr=1-9&keywords=state+flag+nylon

  4. This item requires bubble wrapping to protect the item, but more importantly, the associates handling it. Bubble wrapping dramatically changes the dimensions of an item, but it must be taken into account because that is how the item will be shipped. https://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Oly-Power-Chrome/dp/B0039Z5FHQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1520454668&sr=8-5&keywords=free+weight+bar

  5. Shouldn't these be sortable items? They can fit into a tote with causing damage to the item. They aren't. https://www.amazon.com/Carson-Dellosa-144030-Scalloped-Borders-Variety/dp/B0043C1ZV4/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1520454837&sr=8-15&keywords=bulletin+board+borders

  6. Sortable? Yes. Why? The way it's packaged. https://www.amazon.com/DC-300529-Shoes-Court-Graffik/dp/B077T6K1Z2/ref=sr_1_84?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1520455679&sr=1-84&nodeID=679255011&psd=1&keywords=dc+shoes+mens

  7. Sortable? No. Why? The way it's packaged. https://www.amazon.com/Woolrich-Oxbow-Flannel-Forest-Medium/dp/B01NBKMYGM/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1520455756&sr=8-28&keywords=mens+flannel+shirts

Random but....

I’ve lost a shit ton of weight recently (like biggest loser territory...) and have a bunch of old party shirts (2X-3XL) that don’t fit anymore/too big to get tailored

Example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CVT2WZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_L7W9AbV9B0ZBK

My question is - if I bring them all to giveaway (giving tree?), will they find good homes with people they fit?

I love these shirts, had a lot of awesome times in them, and want the next owner to appreciate the party factor.

Goodwill/etc is an option but they’d probably end up at a fest anyways so figure cut out the middleman?

Ps found even better new party shirts that fit for weekend 2, see y’all soon, can’t miss me :)

u/marthor · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I have a similar build, and I tend to wear a lot of t-shirts. If you like logos, then Polo's custom fit t-shirts are a great option. You can get them for low prices on Polo's website (they're $16 each right now).

If you don't like logos, then J. Crew's broken-in t-shirts are a good option (albeit lower quality than Polo). Order a size down if you're getting the regular fit.

Basically, my strategy is to find a shirt that fits my waist and torso length and then just stretch out the shoulders and chest. This happens naturally as you wear them, especially if you wear them to the gym. Most of my shirts start out too tight around my upper torso but fit perfectly after a few wearings.

With sports shirts, unfortunately, you can't employ this strategy -- the chest and and shoulders won't stretch out over time. The absolute best shirts I've encountered are Ralph Lauren's slim-fit stretch OCBDs. They won't break the bank either: https://www.amazon.com/Polo-Ralph-Lauren-Stretch-Oxford/dp/B01EIK3VG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1474151813&sr=1-1&nodeID=2476517011&keywords=stretch%2Bsports%2Bshirt&th=1

Unfortunately, I tend to prefer clothing without logos, so I'm still looking for my perfect sports shirt.

Are you looking for clothes specifically for this trip or just trying to find a new place to buy clothes? For travel clothes REI is great and their clearance section typically has some gems for lightweight travel-friendly clothes. For your trip, you'll want a good pair of walking shoes as sneakers aren't generally the look over there so I'd go for a modest pair of Skechers (they have a dweeby rep in the USA but have really improved their look and are some of the comfiest shoes around, not to mention affordable.) I'd also suggest a nice linen shirt for going out - many of which can be found cheaply on Amazon.

If you're looking to maintain your current look, then I'd switch to v-neck, darker colored workout shirts without logos, as they can give a bit of refinement when paired with a well-fitting pair of jeans. 32 Below shirts are quite good in this regard. Also don't discount how much a decent looking watch can elevate a seemingly regular outfit.

Ok, let me break it down for you.

The tunic could be made out of a cost effective, medium quality cotton - let’s say it’s $10/yard, and you need 2.5 yards. That’s $25. Now it has some yellow accent or embroidery. You could either use trim, paint it on, or embroider it. There’s no way your budget allows for embroidery, so let’s say you paint/trim it. $10 for those materials. No pattern will exist for that cut on the tunic, so that’s 2 hours to pattern that, plus another 1-3 hours for the detail work. Then another 4 hours to make it more if you want the exact design painted on, rather than a standard gold trim used). So for the tunic alone, we are looking at $35 for materials and $80 for labor. That’s $115 for that piece alone.

Now we have the pants. Those need to be made out of a thicker twill, $13/yard. You need a lot of yardage for pants, I’d guess 3.5 yards. That’s $40 dollars. Notions for things like a zipper is another $5. They could be made from a standard pattern, but would need about 5 hours to construct. Materials $40, Labor $50. Total = $90.

Now let’s get to the pauldron. Faux leather is average $13/yard. You need at least four yards to make a large tailored jacket like that. Plus four yards of lining, let’s say $4/yard. That’s $60 in material to start. Now it needs to be patterned. That’s a tailored jacket, so it needs to be patterned well. Let’s say four hours. Now another 6 hours to cut and sew the jacket. That’s ten hours, so $100 dollars. Again, this is all what a novice is going to price this at. Labor and materials brings us to a break even of $160. Again, craftsmen must make a profit, so $200 for this item is totally reasonable.

The boot covers could be made from a pattern, would need about 2 yards of the faux leather at $13/yard. Four hours to make them for $40. That’s $66 break even for the boot cover.

All in, just to cover the bare minimum costs of making this costume, you are looking at $431 - that’s only labor and materials. Again, nothing but a novice craftsmen would charge this price. It barely covers the cost of making the costume, I didn’t even account for things like business expenses, taxes, listing fees, shipping costs, maintenance cost on tools, and actually making a profit.

At the end of the day, it does not matter how simple you think this costume is. If it were that simple, you would make it yourself! In fact, you could easily make the tunic, boot covers, and pants by adding the designs to store bought items, then spend your money on the pauldron. This is what the majority of most cosplayers who don’t wish to spend a lot of money do. They alter existing pieces. You could buy a tunic on Amazon for a very affordable price, cut the buttons off, and glue some gold trim on the edges. Then just find some pants at a thrift store, and allocate your budget to the pauldron. You can always add custom made items for the tunic and pants later.

If you are searching, “varic from dragon age cosplay”, the costumes you are seeing would (almost all) cost over $1000 to have someone make it for you. Just as a reference.

These are strictly my opinions:

Woolrich Oxbow Bend (7oz), Patagoina Fjord Flannel (6.5 oz) are my two favorites.

Right behind them is my Wallace & Barnes (J. Crew) heavyweight flannel that I got for like $9 during the flashening last year. I'd never pay full price for it, however. Part of why I love it so much is because it cost less than a couple of coffees from Starbucks.

Best bang-for-your-buck bargain (again-- my opinion) is Legendary Whitetails. Sizing can be a bit odd though. I think they are made for the Mossy-Oak-Salt-Life-hunter/fisherman guys who trend towards having a larger size gut. You won't find slim fits here.

If you can get them on sale (got mine for $25) American Eagle makes a surprisingly great flannel shirt.

If price is no object, then Iron Heart.

If you would like to try and stop him dressing in a gangster-ish way, then fairly plain clothes are a good way to go.

There is a company on amazon called Fruit of the Loom who sell this sort of stuff. I have personally bought clothes from them, and they are both cheap and fairly good quality. More casual and lounge-wear.

T-shirts

Sweatpants

As for shirts, I would again keep it plain and simple:

One

Two

Jeans

As for shoes, if he is like most men I know, he won't be too fussed. Personally I would stick to black shoes or trainers.

Hope I've been of some help.

Naptown.

What about a comfy flannel shirt for the guy? Here's a blue one from a decent company that's about the same price as your rompers! (I was trying to color coordinate with your bridesmaids):

https://www.amazon.com/Wrangler-Authentics-Sleeve-Fleece-Buffalo/dp/B00XH98VS4/ref=pd_sim_468_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00XH98VS4&pd_rd_r=C3M2W1GFB3BNA61N35ZB&pd_rd_w=1ThVG&pd_rd_wg=uonLf&psc=1&refRID=C3M2W1GFB3BNA61N35ZB

Also these rompers are so darling and I totally saved them to my wedding wishlist! What an excellent and clever find! Thank you so much for sharing!

If you like the jacket, I’d wear it like the model with a white t shirt underneath.

Try this in the wheat

U.S. Polo Assn. Men's Corduroy Sport Coat RAM1011J Wheat, 48 Long https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4LXMFS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9Dw7BbWVFZKB8

Some dark jeans, chukka boots or oxfords, and a t shirt or a button up like this

IZOD Men's Big and Tall Long Sleeve Oxford Plaid Shirt, Saltwater red, 2X-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079PTJFV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FFw7BbNG2N4NZ

Or solid colors like this
Ralph Lauren Long Sleeve Classic Fit Mens Shirt, Windsor Navy, XL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0156XTKRO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cJw7BbFAEJRH4

Here’s some shoes that are reasonable

Clarks Men's Grandin Plain Oxford, Dark tan Leather, 9 M US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HYQZNL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vGw7BbJTZM323

And then you’ll have a fantastic business casual outfit and pieces you can build off of.

u/carmenqueasy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I don't think a guy can have too many undershirts. I also found a lot from Doublju. A brand worth checking out if you don't like any of those. Also, you can never go wrong with RVCA, they're super soft! And then a couple more random brand names that I found. I hope it helps!! Naptown :)

Edit: Eh, I mis-linked a RVCA shirt, sorry...that brand in general though.

u/Roarence · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Flannels are also a great shirt to have after coming back. Walking around with it unbuttoned is very normal, and looks great.

Going for less-loud flannels like 1 2 3 is a great option

My flannel shirt, I got it for Christmas and I already love it since I've lost a good amount of weight this year and I can pretty easily wear a medium, and it feels and looks wonderful.

Where can I get slim-fit flannels that aren't ugly as fuck?

I really like the patterns on these but I just received one today and it is just way too large and boxy.

All of the slim-fitting flannels that I find either have just straight checkered patterns or have thin lines in their patterns that make them look way too busy.

u/daniel852 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Would these pants and this shirt work? To be honest, I don't like the shirt that much but I think it would work.

It might take some time to find and collect shirts like this, but I love this look for a Mr. Frizzle.
