Before I get to the list, I'll mention that it may not seem like I'm super active, but I was away from the sub for a week or so, but if you look into my posts from before that, you'll see I'm pretty active. :)

1.) Something that is blue. - I mean, it's literally blue.

2.) Something that says summer. - What says summer better than SURFING!?

3.) Something food related that is unusual. - It's a Kit Kat. But it's GREEN TEA flavored!

4.) Something you want to gift to someone else, and tell me why. - I've been trying to get /u/quickwittedslowpoke to buy this manga because it's awesome, but she hasn't yet. I really want her to read it!

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! - Shameless shilling. My friend wrote this book and I want him to become famous! :D

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! - I don't really have a great reason for this, it was just on my mind because I had considered getting it as a gag gift for my uncle's birthday since his lucky number is 113 and that Pokemon is #113, but I didn't end up doing it since it wouldn't have arrived by his birthday (which already passed).

7.) Something related to dogs. - I have no idea what GSD is, sorry D:

8.) Something that is not useful, but so awesome you must have it. - It's literally just a statue. It doesn't do anything but look cute. But she's one of my favorite characters :D

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? - This is one of the best Anime films of all time. Even if you're not into anime, I still highly recommend it. It has won COUNTLESS awards already. It's a pretty big deal in the anime community. It's got a great plot and it's so sad that if you don't cry, you have no soul.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. - Zombies can't swim. Foolproof plan. They'll eventually decay in the sun and all die within a few days, and you'll be out on your cool ass boat, safe from the chaos.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. - I know it seems a little silly, but I'm trying to learn to cook better, and I just don't really have very good cooking tools...

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. - Fun fact: I obsessively clean my ears. :I

13.) Something fandom related. - It's three fandoms in one! Super Smash Bros, Nintendo and Final Fantasy! :D

14.) Something ridiculously priced, more than $10,000. They exist, y’all. - Because it's eleven times what you asked :)

15.) Something with sharks or unicorns. - It was actually pretty decent.

16.) Something that smells wonderful. - At least I think it does. Needs lots of sugar though lol

17.) A toy that you wanted or had when you were a child that was the best ever, or (if it’s not on amazon) a toy that you think is pretty cool now - Does this count? I had the original back in the 80s/90s, and this is a new model with packed in games. But yeah, this shit was my childhood!

18.) Something that would be helpful for writers. - I mean, really, what're you gonna do with unsharpened pencils?

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. - The Precure anime franchise is one of my guilty pleasures, and this character, Cure Peace, is my favorite character in the series! :D

20.) Something that is just so random and weird that it makes you laugh. - Because why the fuck not?

  16. My perfume! This is the only perfume I use, and it smell so wonderful!

  17. American Girl Doll Samantha! I still have this somewhere at my mom's house!

If they can afford it and you have one in your area, I would recommend the family take the dementia patient to an adult daycare every now and again, or even everyday. It gives the family some time to breathe and do what they want. And it gets the patient out and about.

Don't know if the family needs some sort of distractions or not? Female dementia patients often respond favorably to baby dolls. Actual dolls. Like the ones small girls play with. NOT a Barbie, but a bigger doll. Like this:
http://www.amazon.com/JC-Toys-16-inch-Washable-Purple/dp/B00CE2PTC6/ref=sr_1_9?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1464743750&sr=1-9&keywords=baby+doll
You don't need to get all the accessories (bottles, clothes, etc.). I have seen many female dementia patients who will sit and hold a doll for hours on end. Either their vision or that part of their brain doesn't allow them to see the doll as a doll but makes them think it's a real child and so they'll sit there all day with one, and talk to it and burp it and such. I've not seen a man with a doll, so I don't know if it would work or not.

The other thing that works for dementia patients is a "fidget blanket." This is sometimes called different things, like an activity blanket or activity apron, here's a link to one: http://www.amazon.com/Special-Needs-Sensory-Activity-Apron/dp/B004PMNZ7E/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1464744012&sr=1-1&keywords=fidget+blanket
but it is basically a blanket with zippers and buttons and velcro and various things for them to do with their hands. I've seen some that mount on the wall and have mechanical type stuff like a vise and a lock and other things, but then you have to get the patient up and over to the wall and I just don't see that being practical.

Oh, and something that works for patients of both genders: picture books. Especially if the patient used to love to read. Get them a big stack of picture books (kids books are great for this), or if you can find a big thick catalog, that also works (they won't know the difference and no biggie if a page gets torn).

All of these ideas are for patients in the more advanced stages of dementia. Your mileage may vary. I wouldn't pull any of these out of my hat for someone who was just recently diagnosed with dementia. I had a colleague who used coloring books and crayons with her patients but I never could quite pull that one off. Other people have also had success with giving them a basket full of towels or socks or something innocuous like that and having them fold laundry all day. (They'll never finish because they're likely to undo what they just did).

The big thing for families is letting them know that strange behaviors are perfectly normal and getting them some help so they don't have to do everything themselves because then they just get burned out fast.

Make sure the patient doesn't have access to the car keys, if they're still mobile. Find out if they're a wandering risk. I had a patient once who was a major escape risk.... literally if you turned your back, he would be out the door, over a 6 foot privacy fence, and running down the major highway that was a block away. The easiest way to fix this is to move the doorknobs and locks either up or down on the door. Let me explain: a person with a "normal" or still fully functioning brain knows where the doorknob is and how to operate it. Now take someone with dementia and move the doorknob up to, say, chest height or up even higher (just not at eye level). The patient will go to open the door and not be able to find the doorknob and they will be stumped. It will distract their brain from their usual thinking of "I've got to get out of here" to "where is the doorknob" and many advanced stage dementia patients won't think to look up (or down), and even if they do find it, they won't remember why they were looking for the doorknob in the first place, and hopefully wander off and find something else to get into.

Someone has told me that it's like having a 3 year old again, and it really is. You just have to find something to entertain them. Experiment!! It helps to know what they did for a living.... if they were a homemaker, the baby doll and folding laundry is likely to work. If they were a sports fan, put on ESPN (had one old lady that loved to watch ESPN all day everyday).

I actually don't currently own any Kens--though I can imagine that kids would easier mess up contemporary Kens' hair: I've seen some Kens with bad hair days still in the box! I wouldn't think it would be so bad for adult collectors, but maybe the product looses its strength after awhile...

I agree that many of the playline Barbies are super boring these days, but I'm not sure if that's just selection bias since I'm older now and I'm definitely not their target audience. For instance, I find many of the "fairy" Barbies to not be my thing at all, but I know I would have totally loved them as a little girl!

One budget doll that I think is cool looking is the Barbie I Can Be Fashion Designer doll--I really love her shirt and her faceup is really pretty. That being said, sometimes I just look at the Barbie aisle in my local stores and just feel like I'd just be buying new dolls strictly for their outfits--many of the dolls seem to have such similar faces that they're really interchangeable.

Two current playlines I think that are different are the new Life in the Dreamhouse dolls (with real eyelashes!) and the older So In Style dolls.

But back to the older dolls: which 90s dolls do you think had the most fun concepts?

  1. Done!

  2. Obvs I trust you not to stalk me and murder me in the night.

  3. Sure thing.

  4. I actually haven't seen it yet (please don't kill me!) but I heard it's AMAZING!!! I love Disney and Disney musicals so this would be great to add to my collection. My goddaughter would enjoy watching it when she visits me too (she loves Tangled!).

http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Stella-Soft-Nurturing-First/dp/B0036AWTDM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1414270901&sr=8-7&keywords=baby+stella This is what you need. We got our daughter the girl one, but I plan on getting this one for our son when he's old enough. This doll is great, soft, the magnetic paci is cool, and my daughter LOVED it. She was 16 months when we bought it, along with two big sister books and a Melissa and Doug brand bottle that has disappearing milk.

u/MeishkaD · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

How about a Disney Princess? If the raffle gods choose me, only buy this doll if she is available from Amazon for $14.99 or less. The third party sellers are all charging way too much and most are knock offs. Any other Disney Princess item from my lists would be a wonderful surprise as well. Thanks for the fun contest.

u/TankSpank · 3 pointsr/SantasLittleHelpers

April 30 :) And, I did have one dream about a girl but felt the whole time this one was a boy - like, when I was trying to think of names the girl names just felt wrong.

I also have a pretty clear picture from the scan of the boy parts, so there's that too! I guess we will just have to see, lol.

BTW it was this Anna, not sure if you can tell on the list or not. I like Anna more than Elsa myself, she's much nicer :D

u/CrystalElyse · 1 pointr/DC_Cinematic

There's a cheaper one that's pretty decent, but there was an SDCC exclusive one that I absolutely love and was unable to get. I can't justify buying it at what they're going for now, but there are still a bunch floating around out there if you're interested.

u/_PM_ME_CUTE_PONIES_ · 8 pointsr/mylittlepony

$75 is more than most mass-produced MLP toys cost, but less then most custom things, and it might be too late to order custom ponies anyway (good artists tend to have waitlists, I order what I want in summer to get that in time for Hearths Warming Eve).

I'd say that the coolest of mass-produced MLP collector toys are "Guardians of Harmony" series. I own a matching pair of Celestia and Nightmare Moon, for example:

https://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Guardians-Princess/dp/B01BTUK2WU
https://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-B7300-Friendship/dp/B01BTUK2Z2/

Or, if you want to be really generous, preorder this for him:

As a kid my favorite toy was my bicycle. I rode that thing all over the place with my buddies.

And you're never too old for toys. My wife picked up Moonlight Halloween Barbie about a year or so ago because she loves Halloween.

We also collect Funko Pop figures and get those Blind Box Funko minis for different fandoms that we like.

They also sell collector Barbie dolls, I had a friend in college who used to spend hundreds on Bob Mackie designed Barbie dolls that came in original dresses.

u/gamer4maker · 1 pointr/ActionFigures

Link. Thanks, I never knew what they were called. I like the ones from BBTS as they look a bit nicer, but if I needed lots I'd probably get the Amazon ones to save a few bucks.

u/lightzalot · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The Elsa dolls are back in stock and my daughter has been wanting one so bad and it would actually go under the tree as a present from Santa! :)

Amazon has a ton of awesome stuff for kids for pretty cheap. Anybody who only has ~$5-$10 to give should take a look at this list and organize helping someone in need from this thread. All of these are eligible for Prime. I'm willing to help out with two gifts of anyone's choice. Shoot me a PM. (Yes, I stole these ideas directly from SD. I've taken out the affiliate links.)

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My daughter's favourite colour is purple.

She is passionate about My Little Pony, and Princess Cadence is pretty cool.

u/no1darker · 1 pointr/ActionFigures

Here's an actually useful comment lol. Most people recommend the kaiser doll stands, however these are mostly for museum poses, or very light articulation. https://www.amazon.com/Kaiser-Doll-Stand-2075-Box/dp/B003TP9G9O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483119942&sr=8-3&keywords=kaiser+doll+stands

Hot Toys also once released a flight stand that's probably more what you're looking for, unfortunately they're long sold out, but if you ever want to check eBay, you might luck out and find one for $50

https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Toys-scale-Dynamic-Figure/dp/B00H40AUV8/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483119982&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=hot+toys+flight+stand

u/rad140 · 2 pointsr/mylittlepony

This one?. MSRP is $19.99 in the USA.

Now if you somehow found a Luna Funko figure (not the mystery mini), then yes. Very yes. To the tune of $200 yes.

u/genida · 7 pointsr/pics

I think it's actually not a picture but a box containing a Wonder Woman doll, in her full regalia.

Look at this picture, with a little more pixels and zoom.

Quite possibly this collectible. That'd be my guess, as the box looks very similar. I first thought it was a purple background, but it's probably red. Outfit, pose, golden cape, the rocks she's standing on. It's my best guess.

And here we have even more pixels. Looks about right.

My daughter has this Melissa and Doug set. It's ok. Not terribly cute and the dolls aren't terribly easy to pose, but they are a little flexible and the scale is correct. Looks like it's out of stock, anyway, so ymmv... This may be exactly what you're thinking of when you talk about dolls that look cheap.

My mother-in-law does a bunch of crafty nik nak crap to raise money for mission trips and other activities/hobbies. Mostly she knits hats on one of those plastic circular looms. However, once in a while she uses leftover fabric from quilts to make "dammit dolls" which have similar instructions... Googled it and here is an Amazon listing (looks like someone made a trump version, ya know, if you need that in your life...)

Sorry, almost forgot, The whole thing is, I'm not sure this was intentional, but I totally understand them pulling it. I also thought it was really weird that they have scarves that say I Love You. All sorts of weird implications there...

Retail therapy is always a nice way to feel better. If that doesn't work, you can always get a Dammit Doll to work out your frustrations. Or, you could get a cute kitty coin bank to save up for your next shopping trip. Or a portable phone charger for when your phone is about to die!
