🎓 Reddit experts on gun solvents
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where gun solvents are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
CLP should be everything you need as far as solvent.
I am also a huge fan of the blue top gun wash
Those two things and a viper boresnake
For a really stubborn and extreme cases of carbon/lead application use this stuff in a VERY WELL VENTILATED AREA I can not stress that enough. It is strong, it hurts your nose, and it will melt anything it touches from what I can tell. Rubber, polymer, plastic, etc - i use it with a qtip and a small wire brush to scrub off and I am extremely careful to protect everything around me. Doesn't bother my skin but nothing much does. Not something I use on the regular but it is damn good stuff!
You should be all set from there.
Kroil is absolutely fucking amazing. Honestly I found out myself that after about a month or so that Kroil seems to get gummy and so I no longer use it for firearms that I don't use on the regular. If you use the CLP to clean, and then are heading to the range, I would say Kroil all the way on slides, BCG, etc for whatever you are using - then when you put it away CLP again.
The best thing about CLP is that I have yet to find anything that it ruins. It is very noncorrosive.
I have bought kits and I have bought individual bits. The individual bits are the best deal as you can get what you need.
So I am a big fan of FrogLube CLP for its lubricating and Protecting capabilities. base one This test You can read that over and figure out what you like from there as well.
For barrel Cleaning. Kroil is a good penetrating oil for getting under carbon and lead and helping to lift them off.
Hoppe #9 bore cleaner is a classic and seems to work well for getting copper out. Usually alternate between the Kroil and Hoppes to get both the copper and carbon fouling removed.
I also use a mix of Bore Brushes and Jags
This may be controversial but I prefer stainless steel cleaning rod to the plastic coated or aluminum rods. I believe they are less likely to damage the barrel.
Other than that there are lots of options with big debates over the best way of cleaning your gun and the best stuff to use. Good luck
I came here to say Hoppes. I use it to Lube my framing nailers, trim nailers, clean and lube any hand tools with moving parts. It cleans lubricates and protects.
Plus it smells fucking awesome and then gets me to go clean my guns and give them a nice new shine.
I love Hoppes! https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Synthetic-Blend-Lubricating-2-25-Ounce/dp/B00BVMFRE0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=hoppes+lube&qid=1556646651&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
Ballistol is great, here is what I use:
I use them pretty much in that order. If I could buy only 1 thing from the list, it would be the nitrile gloves. All the gun cleaning solvents are super toxic, nitrile is better than latex for solvents. Latex won't stop some solvents. Ballistol is the second best thing, then Gunslick Ultra Klenz is my next favorite. The Outer's Crud Crutter removes all of the above solvents, I use it when I'm done cleaning with Ultra Klenz and CR-10 because it removes the solvents and dries leaving the gun bone dry. Then I apply a drop of grease at friction points and give it an all over polishing with Ballistol.
> but more like a CCW kit
I'm a fan of hoppes mpro line. The solvent is great in that it you can use it inside because it doesn't have a strong odor. The lube is great because it just works so well. If you google the lube you'll find some cool comparison tests with it.

M-Pro 7 Gun Oil LPX, 2 Ounce Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003C7P5PI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_DxgIwbWG3BY3T
I just cleaned my ar15 for the first time I'll add my input.
Here are some generic boresnakes. They about 5 days to ship so order them now if you need to clean soon. I don't really understand boresnakes unless you have legit dirt in your barrel that you want out or need to clean it at the range (which seems unnecessary for an AR) because they aren't a substitute for cleaning but some generic ones won't hurt the wallet too bad.
Just make sure you get a cleaning rod (I got a universal rod but I wish I would've just went with a one piece rod so I don't have to keep tightening it) with some brushes for the bores and maybe the chambers too but anything can clean them.
I ordered M-Pro 7 for a cleaner, it works, I've only used it once so can't comment on this or that about it.
For lube, I ordered Slip2000 EWG grease and followed Mr2ndAmendment's guide to lubing it.
And then some cleaning patches.
I still need some bore brushes for my SKS and AR and I'll probably get another cleaning rod. Also I would find something to put it all in because there will be a lot pieces if you don't buy a kit that includes it all. I would make sure whatever you buy, you can clean all your weapons equally.
First off familiarize yourself with the four rules of firearm safety
>Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
>Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
>Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
>Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
sounds like a safe is out of the question, if so you can pick these up a couple of gunvault breech lock kits or these.
second you can pick up a universal gun cleaning kit, hoppes no. 9 cleaning solvent, and cleaning patches online or at your local Walmart.
That's the minimum. I would also recommend CLP as a mid-step between solvent and lube, and as a general cleaner and protectant. Cleaning brushes and picks are useful for getting into the harder to reach places. Finally a bore snake down the barrel at the range after shooting from chamber to muzzle a couple times will make cleaning significantly easier.
I think I've solved what's making the space bar be a dick. Album of my powers of deduction. If you would be so kind, could you please take a look and let me know if this makes any sense?
Basically, I think the left one is straight while the right one is bent. That would mean that straight-up pulling the silver things left would result in the left one going from straight to bent while the right one goes from bent to less bent.
Maybe I should grab the right one and pull out slightly? Is there a better way to do this? So far I've just grabbed it with my hands.
Also, should I clean this with Hoppe's Gun Cleaner and a tooth brush and then oil it with Hoppe's Gun Oil?
I'm sorry to burden you with my problem yet again. I just not sure who else to ask... I hope the gold at least helps to make up for it, as I really appreciate your time.
A good cleaner and lube without scent is the M Pro 7 line. They are odorless, non toxic, and work great!

I use a boresnake - works great
If you are not shooting it. May I suggest taking it apart, cleaning the metal as best you can. Then using that Grease on all the metal you can find. That stuff is not great for a lubricant. But if preservation is the idea, then its good.
The wood on one side being darker can be a few things. Maybe the holster, though I suspect not. Can be change in the wood caused by sun light when sitting out. Maybe it was always slightly different simply cause the wood was different to start out with.

Home Defense, Some Suggestions
chillax bruh: it's a glock, not a fabergé egg. you can't harm it even if you tried. shoot whatever ammo is commercially available and fear nothing.
that looks like oxidized copper. get you some copper-specific solvent like hoppe's bench rest, soak a patch and gently drag it thu your barrel to leave as much of the stuff inside as you can - basically soak the shit out of it. leave overnight. brush & dry patch in the morning.
Yes, specifically this, OP.
Just to be sure I'm getting the right stuff

Hello!
I recently purchased a Glock 19 Gen 4 - I paid $529.00 out the door with 3 15 round mags. If you are in North Texas, stop by SportingArms.com - I bought from them and they are a great little mom and pop shop in Lewisville. Anyway, on to your questions.
2.) Don't buy a GunVault safe. They apparently fail to open some times, not something you want happening when it really counts. Also, apparently if you pick it up and drop it hard, it can open! I bought a Barska Biometric safe Link to Amazon Page I have had no issues with it, it's quiet and fast.
3.) Cleaning is easy. Hops #9 Kit , 9mm Bore Snake, and a clean DRY toothbrush.
As for ammo, I've put cheap brown bear, winchester white box, and federal champion ammo through it without problems. Personally I like the winchester whitebox, it's reasonably cheap and clean, and can be purchased at your local walmart for about $22.00 a box (100 rounds)
edit: For cheap bulk ammo, check out gun-deals.com
Not sure if it's the best price around but here's some stuff I've found:
Hoppes #9
SWFA scope, full price though
100 round ammo boxes
shooting steel
tripod target
Harris Bipod
bore snakes
and knives of course
Agreed
Therefore I say go for it
Smaller amounts of rust the internet says baking soda and a toothbrush
The amount you have there though, gonna need some soaking time
You should use this stuff
This grease https://www.amazon.com/Breakthrough-Clean-Technologies-Battle-Grease/dp/B01M4FDQ41/ref=pd_aw_fbt_200_img_3/141-6546157-5644764?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01M4FDQ41&pd_rd_r=2aa42084-3cb4-4919-a3ec-c220bd9b878b&pd_rd_w=6QGag&pd_rd_wg=JowaS&pf_rd_p=6e6afc8a-fbbd-4649-97cf-4e08f5113612&pf_rd_r=XXT11RTTNKQ2MVGJ99VN&psc=1&refRID=XXT11RTTNKQ2MVGJ99VN

Getting the carbon off the front of the cylinder face is a bitch. Best thing I found was M-Pro 7 cleaner, let it sit for a while and hit it with a bronze brush.
Try this stuff, it breaks down cosmoline and carbon build up fast. Just make sure you don't leave it on for too long.

Ballistol is a miracle in a can that you might try to clean the marks. https://www.amazon.com/Ballistol/s?k=Ballistol. . Don’t hate on me for being a gun collector, but when I find rust on a gun, MPro-7 is the first thing I try to clean surface rust, https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-M-Pro-Gun-Cleaner-Bottle/dp/B00162PQTG
Use a proper for caliber brass brush and https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Bench-Copper-Cleaner-Bottle/dp/B0013RB1ZC
Edit: also use real patches not the synthetic crap
This one is good just note, this will strip finish off of wood and metal alike, so use somewhat sparingly, and follow instructions. Never forget to oil after using this.

The regular hoppes oil is just a lubricant. Number 9 bore cleaner is a powder and copper solvent, usually used for cleaning copper fouling from the barrel. Since brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, Number 9 will also break down brass. It'll do a number on brass bore brushes, also.
hoppes No 9.
I buy the big one from amazon, 1 quart I believe, and i use a bin that is large enough to hold the barrels laying down and I fill to just over the barrel so it covers all the right places.
this one I buy regularly. http://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Cleaning-Solvent-1-Quart-Bottle/dp/B00109AAN2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464270519&sr=8-1&keywords=hoppes+9

> Rented a p238

Use range rentals as a indication of grip size, handling and firing mechanism, NOT as an preview of reliability.
If you already have it available (b/c you already have guns), bring a Boresnake and lil' CLP bottle with you to the rental range; it may make the experience less frustrating.
Source: have P238 and P938, no reliability issues that haven't been shooter-induced.
