Keep in mind this is to make a box exactly like the one posted. If I were to do it again, I'd do a few things different like using 2 MOSFETs instead of 1, including some fuses and using a smaller hammond box (1590G probably).

This also does not include basic tools needed like a soldering iron, solder, flux, epoxy for the magnets, a drill and a step drill bit, heatshrink tubing, patience, etc.

If you have any more questions feel free! I'd be happy to help anyone along as best I can.

So they're only $140, not $1400 like most hearing aids, but I use one and it works pretty well. My left eardrum hasn't recovered from its last rupture 3-4 years ago, so I can only wear one, but it makes a HUGE difference. I also feel it's good to have a $70 hearing aid as my first one so when I lose it/break it I won't be crushed.

I feel one ear is worse than both ears. I have to always make sure to position myself/sit myself so everyone is on the same side of me wherever I go.

I can give a positive rec for Ear Peace. I use them for drumming, but also shows. Sound way better than the foam ones I'm used to. Good on ya for protecting your ears! I'm tryin to listen to dope beats as a grandpa as well

u/PwnerifficOne · 1 pointr/electricdaisycarnival

Ear Peace for the win. They come in different tones, one extra plug, low profile, and protect your ears while sounding great. I didn't like how some other brands stick out of your ears and are very visible. These just have a small, thin protrusion to help take them out.

u/sucksbro · 1 pointr/arduino

Not a bad idea. Very nice of you. The issue is size and power. How big of a microphone and how big of a headset are you looking for? Many bluetooth devices can communicate on their own without an Arduino.

What would you like the mic to pick up? Have you tried something like this?

There are bluetooth shields for Arduino as well as some boards with bluetooth built in.

u/alvarkresh · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Ok, yeah, I've had the same kind of tests you got.

Good news for the lack of moldage! They're a bugger especially when the tubes get hardened and they crack and you have to get new ones put in. They're cheapo parts, but necessary for me.

Batteries. They're pretty much all the same so just look for whatever's cheapest in a store that has a decent turnover, or find a good bulk supplier.

Whatever type your hearing aid takes, that'll be what you ask for. In my case I use type 675 (Some may say "675A" or "675E" - the letter is superfluous. What matters is the number); Costs me about $1 per battery when you work it out. Since I go through two about every three weeks... well, it adds up. :|

EDIT: You'll want to invest in a little de-moisturizing container for your hearing aid, as sweat can mess it up inside even if you wipe down the outside. Grab one of these:

Sound World Solutions - Sidekick - Bluetooth Wireless Personal Sound Amplifier (Two Ear Bundle, White Gold Metallic) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UNWMFPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_UiK9Bb2981QS5

These are what I use because I seriously can not afford actual hearing aids. They are better than nothing but I am saving up for the real deal. What I like about these is there is an app where you can do a simple hearing test type thing that programs them for you. Again they aren't hearing aids but they are better than nothing. My biggest complaint is the feedback and random whistles.

u/DavidARoop · 6 pointsr/Ultralight

Hey bud, Hearing Instrument Specialist here! Mind me asking what brand of hearing aids you wear and what style you wear (RIC vs BTE vs Custom)?

Depending on a few factors I would possibly make your own case out of an old plastic film can with beads from this system: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Dri-Hearing-Dehumidifier-Hal-Hen/dp/B000B7I8FQ/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1523070804&sr=8-6&keywords=hearing+aid+dryer

You can put it in a microwave (just the beads) every once in a while to refresh it. If you are hiking I would definitely bring a dryer and possibly extra beads- they weigh next to nothing. With your hear aids I wouldn't worry so much about weight as I would making sure they are effectively maintained.

u/xenomachina · 30 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Just FYI: the batteries are standard CR2032 coin cells and can be replaced pretty easily.

u/spiderthecat · 1 pointr/offmychest

I wish I had hearing aids to give to her. My sister uses them, but she is mentally challenged and lives at a nursing home, so they have gotten lost. Medicaid won't pay for more and our family can't afford another set so she uses something like this.

There's also this which is supposed to be good, but it is $300 and you need to have a smartphone to use with it.

Awesome - thanks so much. I have seen some hardware switches such as these that we could try if she doesn't like the camera-based ones:

I'll let you know. And again, I really appreciate it. It seems small, but reading a magazine without help--and eventually doing more--will be a game changer for my aunt.

u/cangle · 1 pointr/headphones

Something like this ear wax removal tool could work. You can use the looped end to grab earwax inside the headphone. It's worked for me in the past and I would think it's a little bit safer then using a paperclip

u/Colonel_Izzi · 3 pointsr/OculusQuest

I link these with a sense of amusement every time this comes up, but as impractical as they are (though more practical than cupping your hands) I'm quite certain that they would actually work with a bit of modification/repositioning: https://www.amazon.com/Earglasses%C2%AE-Personal-Magnifiers-Hearing-Amplifiers/dp/B00B3LRKVM

Obviously makeshift solutions would be possible too.

Heh.

I forgot to as my Audiologist how long the batteries last. Also, is there a brand you recommend? I see this one is $15 and has a total of 60

u/rockpowered · 2 pointsr/analog

I don't have a Spotmatic but I have a Ricoh with the same issue. If you can find a close equivalent in hearing aid cells it will be much cheaper than a Wein.

It's the same composition Zinc-Air and it approximates the voltage curve of a mercury battery. I got eight batteries for the price of a Wein. Chances are they won't be direct fit so you may have to shim them. I use 675's in my Ricoh and they work fine.

Right off the bat it sounds like your meter may be broken. However, there are a few things to check first before declaring that.

  1. Make sure you use the correct battery. As /u/iamthejeff_ pointed out, the OM-1 natively takes a battery that is no longer available. A weincell or a hearing aid battery will give you the proper voltage. You don't 100% need an o-ring to center the hearing aid battery. The cap should do a good job keeping it on the contact tab.

Once you've gotten a battery of the correct voltage you can test the meter again. One thing of note is that the meter movement itself is mechanical. It will respond to the aperture ring and shutter speed movement even if the meter itself is dead. The meter only reads from around 2EV to 17EV so make sure you test this in sunlight to see if the meter is actually functional. If you're in a lit room it's possible that the meter simply isn't sensitive enough for the light in the room.

  2. If you have a regular OM-1 not the n or MD variant (though I think this MAY apply to some MD variants, I can't recall) then you can also take off the bottom plate by removing the 4 bottom screws and check the battery contact screw. On early models this was made of nylon and is easily broken. This can cause improper electrical contact and make the meter appear inoperable. If you have an n model they all used metal screws so this wouldn't be the case.

If all of this checks out and the meter is inoperable then I'd say it's pretty safe to call your meter dead. If you have an interest in reviving the meter you can send it to John Hermanson to do a CLA on the camera. I'm pretty sure he can replace the meter cells.

    His website is here.

However, given your circumstances that's probably too slow and too expensive.

You can also simply use the camera without a meter. It's a mechanical camera and doesn't need the meter to take photos. You will simply need to employ an external light meter or use Sunny16 or similar exposure rules.

If a light meter in-camera is a must then buying another OM-1 is quite cheap on eBay.

You can use those sound amplifiers that have been advertised for the hard of hearing. My grandparents (while they were alive) used them. They seemed to work well enough, I personally never tried them though, but they could hear me fine w/out use of hearing aids.

Shouldn't something like this help. There's all sorts of "hearing amplifiers" available (search Amazon).

u/ThisIsdaAccount · 1 pointr/pokemon

The Pokewalker is quite banged up so I'm afraid this is the case.

The type of battery I used is the CR2032 battery that the manual recommends. Do you think I should try the ones you linked instead?

These are the replacement batteries.

The ghosting is odd. It doesn't hurt to talk to Nvidia support about it.
