Don't try and change the password, that'll set off alarms and your parents will freeze the account. Drive to another branch of your bank where your parent's friend doesn't work, and do one of two things:

  1. Withdraw all the money in cash. Do this is you're comfortable withdrawing the amount of money in the account and having it on hand. This will guarantee that your money is yours, but if something happens to the bills it's on you. I did this when I bought my first car, I would recommend having a small safe like this locked to something in your car like the seat legs or some other structural component. It keeps your bills relatively safe during transport if you're worried about it.
  2. Get a certified cashier's check. Do this if you're not comfortable carrying around the amount of money in your account in cash, though a certified check can be reversed (very hard to do, though if your parents have an inside at the bank it could be easier depending on their position). This isn't guaranteed to get you your money, but it's safer if you're not comfortable carrying around large sums.

Take this money and deposit it at another bank/credit union right away. As in drive straight from the branch to your money's new home. Personally I use Chase for my checking (paycheck deposits, flex money) and Ally for my savings (emergency fund, everything I save/ budget overflow every month). Some of my family uses a credit union and they love it. I've held off on using a credit union because I have plans to move internationally sometime in the near future and I don't want my money in a small-town credit union in the Midwest, but it's a good option if credit unions appeal to you.

Also think about starting a Roth IRA as a basic beginning investment strategy/retirement savings. The sooner you start the more money you'll have in the end. It only hurts to wait. I can personally recommend Vanguard and their Target Date funds for a user-friendly way to start. My mother worked at Fidelity for a period of time and she holds her Roth IRA with them, so that's another good option.

Make sure you protect yourself. I don't know your family, but I've seen people get violent over lesser things than large sums of money. Have a friend that knows where you are the day you do this, and set up regularly scheduled texts/calls with them with some sort of way to communicate that you're safe (e.g. "The weather is good here" = I'm all good, "The weather forecast isn't great" = I might be in danger, "The weather's really bad here" = Help me.) Make sure you're safe and protected if you're still going to be dependent on your parents/ living with them for any amount of time after you withdraw your money.

I recommend making sure you have several items:

  • Hamper (foldable or collapsible is best for college students.)
  • Laundry bag (Just in case you don't want to carry your hamper to your laundry facility, or your hamper isn't carry friendly.)
  • Desk lamp (any kind should be fine, so that way if your room mate is sleeping you don't have to have the entire room lit up)
  • Power strips (you never know when you're going to need to plug something in, and you might run out of wall plugs)
  • Change jar (spare change is always useful especially when ordering food, so you can give exact change. Don't forget to tip! You can make one of these yourself for basically free minus the cost of a bottle)
  • Desk organizer (To keep your class syllabi in, as well as any returned papers. It's very easy to lose all of that stuff, and you never know if you might need it again during the semester.)
  • Flip flops/shower shoes (keep them cheap because they're only for the bathroom, chances are that bathroom will be shared by you and several others, and most likely won't be the cleanest place)
  • Healthy (ish) snack foods (whatever foods appeal to you really, but that's a start for some ideas, trust me healthy food is good, you don't want that freshman 15 to catch up to you too quick now!)
  • Alarm clock (or you can use your phone which is what I ended up doing last year, but make sure it doesn't die!)
  • Headphones (so you don't annoy your roommate with your choice of tv/music/movies/etc.) Here's three more headphones for variety, all of which are great for the price range. Klipsch, Vsonic, Sony(these Sony MDR-V6 go on sale every so often, they were literally just on sale for $54 and are absolutely fantastic for the price range)

That's basically everything I either wish I had brought, or found very useful. Oh yeah, don't forget your cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop/desktop and appropriate cables. Also don't forget to do your laundry somewhat regularly, and that includes your sheets!

Would you like a falafel with that?

Iā€™d like to thank this sub for all their ideas! I started my amiibo creation journey with a simple sticker attached to a rubber duck for Epona; when I saw my best manā€™s amazement when I showed him, I knew exactly what I needed to do for his best man gift.

I started by attempting to have a playing card company print some of the amazing card designs found on this sub. After being rejected for copyright because of the amiibo logo, I edited it out (as thatā€™s where I was planning to place the sticker); they then told me the entire set was not going to be able to be made, which sent me into a minor panic. I switched up tactics and went to making coins.

Since there are so many varieties of coin sizes, I was a bit overwhelmed compared to the stock PVC or playing card sizes. After doing some research, I decided on the AIRTITE 30mm black ring coin holders. This was because the inner diameter is 1.55 inches, and I bought a 1.5-inch hole punch for the smallest amount of wiggle room.

I went for a cleaner look (just image of amiibo) which are downloadable from Nintendoā€™s amiibo lineup website. I wanted the black ring to be shown on the amiibo side but not the back, so I sized them all to fit within a 1.2-inch circle in word, centered within a 1.6-inch circle. I removed the inner guide circle and copied it into GIMP, a free open source program. This is my first time using it, but the best way I found was to paste each image in as a new layer, transform it to the proper size, and move it into place. (I'm sure there are better ways; this was all trial and error).

It is a destination beach wedding, so I found an appropriate Zelda image that wouldnā€™t look bad in a smaller size or where too much is cut off because of the circular design. The font is a free download, Hylia Serif. I messed up and sized the image to 1.5 inches, not 1.55 (hence the small gaps at the top and bottom). I printed them at home on glossy photo paper using an inkjet printer.

Assembly went bottom coin holder-back image-NFC tag-amiibo image-black foam ring-top coin holder. I added the black ring to center the 25mm sticker, then removed temporarily in order it to put the other image underneath the ring. While it is possible to reopen them, it is very tedious, and I strongly encourage double checking before closing (donā€™t forget a sticker like I didā€¦). You can program them after you assemble them without any issues.

This is probably too much detail, but a lot of posts show amazing results and I knew I felt unsure of things many times before I ironed everything out. Hopefully this can make creating your own more accessible for future first timers! Iā€™m going to work on cleaning up my coin pdfs but will post them soon! Itā€™s a total of 36 coins (Zelda, Splatoon, and wedding Mario, naturally).

TL;DR:
Materials: AIRTITE 30mm black ring AIRTITE coin holders; 25mm NFC Stickers; 1.5 inch hole punch

Great questions OP. I will shamelessly plug /r/CRH, but also update my sidebar to address some of your questions.
There are cheap coin sorters like this one if you do not have a local bank that provides free coin sorting services. As TheDude66 says, looks down the edges of all coin denominations 10cents and higher for the dead giveaway white edge.
I don't think there are any accurate statistics on which denomination is most likely to have the "right" dates, but if you start following some of the posts around here, you will find that a lot of it depends on where you live, how many other coin roll hunters are in your area competing for silver, and other factors like if the banks are getting rolls of coins from a company like brinks that might pre-sort any silver coins. I personally like searching dimes because they are light for their denomination, are quick to search and quick to return to my bank. Others like half dollars because of the bigger payout for when you do find a silver coin.
I am very certain that 40% silver coins do not have the bronze edge, and would be easy to spot versus the newer clad coins. I hope this helps, and I hope you get some silver from that pocket change. Otherwise, go to the bank and grab a few hundred bucks in coinage!

Wow, thanks for all the comments and help guys :) I'm playing combined army so it's likely the avatar would be the biggest model I would play. I was thinking I could use something like this. Its around 4 inches in height and probably small enough to still fit in a backpack which would be great.

You could consider an NVR lockbox like this one.

Some things I've found:

  1. More cameras are better than fewer, even at lower resolutions and frame rates to save disk space.
  2. Cat5/6 cable is cheap; you time running them is not. So always run more parallel cables than you need, in case one fails (chewed by rodents, etc.).
  3. Definitely use external IR illuminators like this one, which are much better than the built-in camera ones, which are then disabled. This also means fewer false motion alerts from dust, mist, and spiders, which are attracted to the IR LEDs in the cameras.
  4. Before mounting a camera permanently, test its view during the day and night using a temporary clamp or shallow screws.
  5. Read this wiki, especially the part on securing your home network. Although the site focuses on Blue Iris, the wiki pages contain a lot of great advice.

    Good luck!

Hot damn on that National $20!

On a side note, get a good binder for those bills! I'd recommend a Dansco 7001 Currency Album. Has enough pages in it to hold 24 banknotes, and you can order more pages. The album can hold a good 15 pages comfortably (meaning upwards of 45 banknotes).

These Lighthouse currency albums are also great. They can hold about 45 pages (1 note per page) comfortably. I have four of those full of foreign banknotes, and two of the Dansco full of US notes, and a large sized Lighthouse album for older large sized and graded banknotes.

Question for the Realtors: It's 2019. How come lockboxes that you can control via your cell phone aren't the norm? Obviously do some research on the features, etc, but example 1 and example 2.

I would even go farther, and use something like calendly to let buyer's agents schedule. Shared outlook calendar for "123 Main St" with calendly, listing agent, and homeowner. Homeowner can book up any time they don't want the home to be shown (I use calendly IRL and if I don't want anyone to book 2 pm because I'm going to lunch of w/e, and not near my outlook, I just book a time with myself on my cell phone), and once a day the listing agent tells the lockbox to unlock (only to those with the combo from the MLS) 10 minutes before the scheduled times. You're also creating a digital record of which Realtors showed the house and when, so if something goes missing it's not hard to narrow it down.

Let's say you're a top producing agent with 5 listings at once. That's one time <$1000 for 5 digital cellular lockboxes and then $13/mo for calendly. Each address has their own calendly (or similar) and outlook (or google, etc) calendar shared by the listing agent with the respective homeowner. If you're selling 3-5 homes a month, you can afford it.

Just FYI I'd look up some reviews on that timed lock. (And it's not from OXY, it's a cheap Chinese product they're reselling.) Everything I've ever seen says it doesn't work well, the battery dies easily, and it comes apart when it's meant to be locked. I'd go with the combination padlock, but then that's $30 when a realtor's box, which is essentially the same thing, can be had for $18.

EmlaLock is also fantastic because you can introduce a bit of randomness into your lockup. I'm currently using it right now, and here's the session I'm in. I have no idea when I'll be released (although I can check for an added time penalty), but because I'm forced to play the Wheel of Fortune game at minimum 5 times each day, the remaining time on my session can fluctuate a lot. (And then even when the timer runs out, I still have to spin a wheel with only a 10% chance of being released, otherwise more time gets added.)

There's some "public" features too, like other people can vote on your session to add/remove time, there's a public pillory, you can set a "requirement link" where you have to share the URL around and get a certain pre-set number of people to vote on your session before you're allowed to be released, etc. ā€” although I've never done any of the "public" things, just solo.

If you have any questions on the site or how to use it, let me know.

Itā€™s a bank tellers / fair ground ride/ ticket seller / etc coin sorter thing. Unsure of the currency (edit, Danish Kroner) but youā€™d stack different derivates of coins to make up the value printed for that section. Top row will be pennies (or equivalent, value of 1 krone) then 2
Krone, 5 Krone and 10 Krone coins. If someone was exchanging money itā€™s an easy way to manage a load of coins, give correct, pre counted change, etc.

I'll try and answer all your questions, via this entire thread, in this one post. And maybe give some extra info? I don't, this might turn into a wall of text. I'll do my best to not do that.

I own pretty much every possible way to make spoofed amiibos. From cards, to coins, to the PowerSaves (find it at GameStops), and also the N2 Elite.

Cheaper Alternatives?

  • The cheapest way to make amiibos is, and will probably always "stickers". It is a round sticker, you zap it with an Android device, stick it on something (like a piece of paper), label it. Bam done. **You can buy and do more that increase the price here, but even still it is the cheapest path.

  • The next on the list from cheapest to cost the most is NFC tags. With both tags and stickers, make sure they are the right type. Zappy the card like the sticker, label, done. **Like the sticker, you can go on to make custom cards.

  • PowerSaves . This is something you can find from Datel. You want whatever package comes with the USB portal. This is how you load the puk via PC. So...you need a PC. The puk can only "be" one amiibo at a time. Via the program that you install, you can change it as you need...again with PC. The PowerSaves should not cost more then $30. The downside is the puk will burn out. How soon? No idea. You might get over 100 uses, or you might get 10. GameStop seems to know about this, and from what I've heard, will replace if you return. You can also buy extra puks, I've seen them on eBay. They range from cheap to cheap.

  • That brings us to the N2. If you really want to go this way, there are 2 options: Just the N2 puk, or the N2 puk and the USB portal device that connects to a PC. You technically can use an android phone to load the puk, I just found it to be too slow for my liking. So I bought the portal. The package deal on this is around 80$. The pro: You can have a lot of amiibos on this (like 200). The con: You need to print of a list of the amiibos. You have to cycle through them each time you want to go from a certain one to the next. You do not have to have the puk full. So if you only have say 5 on there, it only cycles them 5.

The PC program vs phone for the n2 is just... I can load the n2 much faster with the PC. I can make a list, and it is loaded in just seconds. With my phone, I have to add one at a time, navigating to the bins each time. Takes to long. I only use my phone to add 1, when checking bins.

You asked if there was a battery in the n2. There is not from what I can remember when mine fell apart. Just like there is no battery in amiibos. How does it know what one to be on? Don't know, that is the magic of the N2.

Buy it off Wish? That is a big dice roll. If you do, let us know how it works out. I'd not take the chance. There isn't much inside the puk, so you saving a ton of money might just end with you getting an empty puk :3

What should you really do? If you are asking us...well... do you have an android phone that can write NFC? If so, I'd go with making NFC stickers. Get as many stickers as you will need (I have bought these exact ones, from this seller, many times now) and get this coin saver and case . I have an entire set where I zapped the sticker, stuck in inside the coin, and just wrote what it was on the blank side. The added case keeps them in check.

I use my N2 now just to check bins (as I said), if it works right, I make a coin.

Back when I played Zelda, I used the N2 a lot more, because you can also create copies of amiibos, that the game would read each use. So ... I did at one time have 200 "different" Guardian amiibos to gain a toooooooon of arrows :P

If you have more questions, asks. I'll do my best.

We started at about 230PM yesterday afternoon and we were finished with sorting, wrapping and counting by 1045PM so roughly 8 hours. This was with me grabbing handfuls of coins, making sure they were all domestic coins and placing them into the sorter. My brother/mom would help by placing the sorted coins into a wrapper. Today we brought the coins to the bank and we had the money in our accounts 30 minutes later.

We have machines in the US too. They are just not very common from what I've seen. Pens are cheaper, and companies are even cheaper.

These 3 styles are the ones I've seen most often. Maybe not the exact model, but definitely these around a lot. The UV one seems to be the most common, lots of grocery stores around me have them. But I went to Target, or some store like that, (can't remember exactly) and they had the actual scanner where they had to feed each bill in 1 at a time. It's so fucking slow.

penny sleeves are those really cheap shitty sleeves you can buy and sometimes they have a slightly larger size which can fit a decent amount of cards.

Card not being expensive is no reason to let them get permantly damaged/warped so they can be identified in a stack.

That's what I was thinking. I started logging my indies into a spreadsheet a few months ago as a way of discouraging new purchases and realized that I have a ridiculous amount of stuff. I have since been trying to find a way to store them so that I can see what I have at a glance and hopefully remind myself that I have plenty.

I have one more idea that I haven't pulled the trigger on yet because it's not really cost effective. I found some clear boxes that are designed to hold coin collections. I figured a box that will hold a 30mm coin would be idea for a 30mm 5g jar. They're like $10-13 per box, though. Uh... These guys

u/Shotgun_Mosquito Ā· 8 pointsr/Bitcoin

All US Bills are printed with magnetic ink. It is actually designed to help with counting large stacks of bills and no so much for counterfeit testing, but it can still be useful.

If you have a small but strong magnet, such as a neodymium magnet, you can lift a real bill - not enough to make it fly off a table, but you can definitely tell if it is magnetic.

If you really want to freak someone out, you can pull out one of these bad boys.

The pens are relatively useless.
