EDIT: Heh, I hope you don't mind the long-winded response; I love introducing people to my favorites, and most of them are kind of obscure, warranting descriptions. I didn't realize how long those descriptions were actually getting... :P

__

> Any other recommendations?

I mostly play action-RPGs; as I've gotten older, turn-based games feel slower now than they did when I was young. Figuring out enemy movement and attack patterns, dodging and/or blocking at the right moments, and generally thinking on your feet holds my attention much more than menu-driven combat nowadays...

My favorite series I'm still actively watching is [Ys](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ys
(series)); their three latest games are amazing, but especially the slightly older Ys Seven (originally made for PSP but later ported to PC), which feels very much like an evolution of the Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu series' gameplay style. Interestingly, while each game in the series is made to be relatively standalone by re-introducing the characters and not referencing previous games much, they are technically direct sequels taking place in sequence and following the same main characters as they travel across the world they live in. I'd recommend playing Ys Seven, Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (if you can handle that one's price tag -- it's only about a year old) before the rest. If you end up wanting more of the series, Steam has the latest and greatest ports/remakes of all the games except the fifth one, which was never released in English (though the Super Famicom version has a fantastic fan-translation if you're not afraid of emulation). For some reason, though, a few of them don't have their in-series number in their title: The Oath in Felghana is a remake of Ys 3, Memories of Celceta is a ground-up retelling of 4 (though it's the first version of 4 to officially have an English translation), and Origin is a prequel that takes place before the events of Ys 1.

Aside from Ys, I am also very much into the Tales series, though they've been going downhill a bit in the last few years; their latest games (Zestiria and Berseria) are still good, but feel very generic compared to the earlier Xillia and its sequel, and the best games in the series (IMHO) are the earliest ones. The PlayStation remake of Tales of Phantasia is my favorite game of all time (for any system), but that version can only be played with a fan-translation patch since it was never officially released in English. Unfortunately, the only version of Phantasia that did receive an official translation was the god-awful GBA version, which was ported from the SNES by a third-party company who really didn't know what they were doing; they couldn't get it playing at a decent framerate during combat, so they slowed down the combat system to half-speed without tweaking the encounter rate or control response, meaning the gameplay became about as interesting as watching paint dry and felt generally laggy and unresponsive... Tales of Eternia (PS1) is my second-favorite in the series. It's called Tales of Destiny II in the US despite having nothing to do with the previous Tales of Destiny (which was rather mediocre IMHO) because the He-Man franchise held the rights to the name 'Eternia'. Unfortunately, it's a rather expensive game, worth nearly $100 in its original form; I'd recommend getting the European PSP version instead, if you have the system, as it usually goes for under half that price and PSPs are region-free. Thirdly, Tales of Symphonia for GameCube is an amazing experience -- I prefer the other two I've listed here a bit more, myself, but for most fans of the series, this is their favorite of them.

Also, if you haven't played it, I urge you to try Chrono Cross. It's not good as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, but taken as a standalone game, it's a fantastic experience. With 45 different recruitable characters, and a branching storyline that changes depending on which ones you're using, it's a bit like a budget Suikoden game but with an easier entry (the Suikoden games are good, but notoriously hard to get into; the few I've played are extremely boring in the beginning, except for the DS spinoff, Suikoden Tierkreis). Its turn-based combat is a bit on the bland side, but it has a novel method of handling attack order, ramping up your accuracy on each successive hit in a 3-attack sequence, meaning you can start out with more accurate but less damaging moves for the first two attacks and finish with something bigger that wouldn't be able to hit if you'd just tried to use it outright (at least, that's how it works if memory serves; it's been half a dozen years since I've last played that game, lol).

Oh, and while I haven't finished it yet, I can say with confidence that the game I'm currently playing, Radiant Historia (DS), has very fun combat despite being menu-driven (its combat mechanics are built around shifting the enemy's position in a 3x3 grid in order to hit multiple enemies with your attacks), a very interesting take on time-travel (you create a branched timeline near the beginning, and spend your time hopping between important points in each branch, basically playing out two separate sequences of events that somehow affect each other or give you abilities you can use to get further in one or the other), and one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard (written entirely by Yoko Shimomura, most famous for her work in Kingdom Hearts, I'd honestly rank this soundtrack right up there with Chrono Trigger's... though I wish it were more varied; many of the songs are used in multiple places, and it would be awesome to hear more amazing unique works instead). The original DS version has better artwork, IMHO, but there's also a 3DS remake that adds animated cutscenes and full voice-acting (though unfortunately they replaced the much more gothic-looking original character portraits with ones that look decidedly more generic).

> Then again, I've never played any of the FF#'s including the famous FF7 and the newer FF10-13. What exactly makes these games fun in the first place? Still trying to figure that point out lol.

I mean, what makes any game fun? Just gotta find what you get joy out of and look for games that suit your tastes. I grew up on Final Fantasy and loved the fantastical stories wrapped up with fun and interesting casts of characters. There are some thematic things that carry over from one game to the next, but the numbered games don't connect to one another as sequels or whatever, so which games from the series you enjoy usually boils down to preference. Especially since the series basically reinvents itself with every new game.

>Oh and the good old rpg tropes of warriors and mages and archers was great too.

Normally I'd suggest picking up the FFX remaster that came out not too long ago and giving it a shot, because I just think it's the series' peak in character development and storytelling. But if the old school fighter/mage/thief trifecta more appeals to you, you might consider FF9 instead, which is my second favorite game in the series.

>Heard a lot about this, never played a persona title before. Can you give me the run down on why it's fun?

It's half Shin Megami Tensei (dark, demony fusing goodness) and half dating sim. You get the grindy micromanagement for half the game, and the other half is dedicated to attending school and getting to know your companions (and usually potentially dating one of them by the end of the game).

>because western rpgs 1. too much horror-religious-gothic-skulls-and-bones stuff (you know exactly what I'm talking about)

Depends on where you're looking. Mass Effect is a classic scifi space opera. Deus Ex and the most recent Shadowrun games are solidly cyberpunk. Fallout is post-apocalyptic.

>2. none of them have party systems

This is where you're going to have to dip more into CRPGs. Pillars of Eternity. The recent Tyrrany. I mentioned Shadowfall just above. It's definitely something I miss from most WRPGs though, I like the banter and depth of story granted from playing with party NPCs.

>except dragon age inquisition which I played and it sucks dick.

I'm not entirely sure what you hated about DAI since you didn't elaborate, but I do agree that the game was pretty lacking. If you liked the promise of DAI but didn't like the execution, you might go back and try Dragon Age: Origins. It's not perfect, but the game has a hell of a lot more soul than DAI does.

5/5 all excellent SNES games. The gf recently finished Link to the Past for the first time with me as her guide, it was really fun, although she had this obsession about slashing every single bush and grass patch in the entire game. I really want to play Secret of Mana with her sometime, but I don't have it.

Earthbound is pretty expensive and I've never played it myself. Chrono Trigger is a classic. If you have access to a playstation, you could play it this way. And Final Fantasy VI is also pretty essential. Again, with access to a Playstation: pretty damn cheap used

You could get both those games (and FF IV and FF V, also good games) used for less than $25 including shipping.

If you don't have access to a PS or PS2 via a friend, you could actually purchase a used PS1 for pretty cheap as well. If that's really too much effort (understandable) or you really prefer the SNES controller feel, see if you have any nearby (or even online) friends who could lend it to you. Hell, if we were already friends and you paid the shipping and promised to send it back, I'd send Chrono Trigger to you. Unfortunately we do not know each other and you might nab it! ;-)

Wii has Megaman 9 and 10, which are fun, but the originals are so much better.

If you have a playstation 2, gamecube, or Xbox, I would definitely recommend getting Megaman anniversary collection it has Mega Man 1-8 and two arcade mega man games which are so much fun.

If you don't have a PS2 but have a PS3 you would be able to download some of the mega man games from PSN I know they have some of them as PSOne classics, though I believe they are in japanese.

If you enjoy that, and have a PS2 or Gamecube, then I would recommend getting Mega man X collection which is like Mega Man classic, but updated graphics, upgradeable weapons, wall climbing, dashing, and on X4 and up multiple characters, it includes megaman X1 - X6, and has a megaman racing arcade game.

Mega Man Legends, Mega man Legends 2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne are by far my favorite, though they would be hard to find and very pricey, but you could get lucky and find the first MML on PC. I got lucky and got Megaman Legends, and Legends 2 as a kid, and still own them. I used to own Misadventure of Tron Bonne, but stupid childhood me traded it into funcoland..

You have made a great decision to get into mega man games, definitely my favorite series, I have beaten them all multiple times.

Let's say you have two games launched at the same time, a great, popular game and a terrible one no one's heard of.

For some reason, the publishers of Terrible Game (TG) are quite confident, so they initially print the same number of copies. We'll say 200,000.

Great Game (GG) delivers all of the copies they printed, and sells all 200,000 copies immediately. Retailers call the publisher and demand a restock. The publisher begins printing another, larger batch.

Terrible Game delivers 10,000 copies at launch, because no one preordered it and so the retailers only stocked 1-2 copies per store. A few sell, because some people want that 100% complete console library, some people are boycotting Great Game because the publisher's CEO said something rude on Twitter, the Terrible Anime license the game is based on has a cult following, etc. These are eventually restocked from the original print run.

So, a month or two has passed. Great Game's second print run was 500,000, because running out of stock is a missed sales opportunity and they want to avoid it. Terrible Game still hasn't sold 200,000 copies, so no reprints yet.

6 months pass, and GG is on its 3rd or 4th printing. TG has finally sold close to 200,000, but by this time, they've decided it's not worth the effort to do another print run, instead focusing their resources on their next game release in hopes it's better received.

So now GG has printed a million or so copies, and TG printed 1/5 of that. 6 months later, GG comes out with a GOTY Edition print run, then a year after that, the Greatest Hits/Nintendo Selects/whatever version. Maybe they never stop printing it. (Yes, Square Enix is still printing some of their PS1 Greatest Hits line.)

Now, those little game discs/cartridges aren't invincible. Maybe they fall behind the couch and are lost forever. Maybe they're left in a pants pocket and washed. Maybe they fall out of an improperly secured moving truck. Maybe they sit in a glass case in the window of a used game store for a decade before the housing crumbles to dust and the contact pins corrode irreparably. This will affect both GG and TG, but since GG printed so many more copies, it's still not impossible to find. Even if 50% of all copies are destroyed, there are still more copies of GG than TG ever had.

I rambled a bit there, and I just made up the numbers, but the TL;DR is no, there's not always the same amount of games, and even if accidents didn't happen, some games just got larger print runs to begin with.

I've also compiled some prices for the games I mentioned. You'll be able to get started within a few days for around $50.00. I had to find used, because some of the older ps1 games are collectors items new and apparently sell for $200.00

PS2, used from Amazon: ~33.00 including shipping
LINK

Crash Bandicoot 1, used from Amazon: ~$11.00 including shipping
LINK

Crash Bandicoot 2, used from Amazon: ~$8.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro 1, used from Amazon: ~$11.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro 2, used from Amazon: ~$8.00 including shipping
LINK

Spyro Year of the Dragon, used from Amazon: ~$12.00 free shipping with prime

Spyro Enter the Dragonfly [This one is probably the last decent on in the series, used from Amazon: ~$6.00 free shipping with Prime
LINK

Sly Cooper 1, used from Amazon: ~$5.00 including shipping
LINK

Sly Cooper 2, used from Amazon: ~$6.00 including shipping

The entire list comes to about $100 it total. If you sit down during every free moment and play, those games should last you at least a couple of months. However, those are just my suggestions. I've found Amazon to be really reliable for a used marketplace, but you'll also want to try a store like gamestop. They usually have this huge basket full of ps1 and ps2 games. If you pick one up and think it looks interesting, get it. There are a lot of hidden gems for these consoles. Good luck :)

u/Vylanius · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My favorite, yet reasonable, item is Silent Hill for playstation. Its my all-time favorite game, and I love love love love love the series.

u/Venomousx · 2 pointsr/AskGames

As someone who also loves FFX (My personal favorite FF), I think you should try to play it yourself. Sure the graphics are a little, meh, but there's still plenty of fun to be had. I started with FFX then went back to play FF7 in later years and was still able to enjoy it quite a bit.

If you have a ps3 you can buy it (digital download) on PSN for $10 I think. Or, if you have a PS1 / 2 you can get it on ebay or amazon (For about $25 is seems, or 30 for greatest hits version: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00000JRSB/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used ) or if you're feeling lucky you can try Craigslist.

I've heard bad things about the PC version, so I can't really recommend that. If PC is your only option, you might as well emulate it.

u/HotpotatotomatoStew · 2 pointsr/FinalFantasyVII

This is the original making it much more valuable than any digital versions and more valuable than the greatest hits edition that came out shortly after the black bar version. The greatest hits edition is not very valuable nor are the digital versions. The black bar version is highly valuable and sought after by collectors. Generally, you won't find the original black bar version for less than $100. That being said, the "Greatest Hits" versions nearly have no value. The original black bar is a collector's item which is why it's so valuable.

I have been replaying Final Fantasy IX. I love it very, very much. The characters are charming, the plot is interesting, and the gameplay really holds up well. Truly a classic and fairly cheap.

I haven't purchased a new game since Gran Turismo 5, which was almost 3 years ago. I think I would like to play The Last of Us. /u/watsoned recommended it and I trust her taste.

u/Wolfgang_00 · 1 pointr/gaming

Wow what a blast from the past. Yeah charming is definitely the word to describe it. Couldn't play the game unless it was sped to a thousand or something.lol

No 2d MMO's are a real rarity these days. If you could find the torrent for Legend of Mana than grab it. It's an old PSX game that you might like it and may hold you over for a time. The artwork and quirky characters are above and beyond charming. Also the music is great.

There's a good reason why it's $200.

u/fromthepagesof · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A used copy of this game would be great! I actually don't have a ps2, but I'm hoping I can find one in yard sales this summer.

My gaming knowledge is really limited only to Nintendo products, though I'm hoping to change that. I am really looking forward to Pokemon XY, though I don't know if they'll even mention any new info. I'm really hoping to get a ps3 or something to catch up on all these great games I've been hearing about. Hopefully maybe there's a sort of price drop for the ps3 now that the ps4 is coming out. Hopefully.

Detroit is home to the Ice Cream Soda!

Yes, I looked this up. XD :Long before A&W introduced their root-beer float the ice-cream soda was being served to thirsty Detroiters along Boston Boulevard. Many historians claim Detroit’s own Fred Sanders, a confectioner and owner of The Pavilion of Sweets first served the drink to two customers in 1876. A popular drink at the time was the sweet cream soda. One day when the ice delivery truck failed to show Sander’s day-old cream went sour. Improvising, he instead mixed ice cream with the carbonated beverage and hence the drink was born.

By the 1880s the most popular combination for this drink was Ginger Ale with ice cream aka the Boston Cooler; specifically Vernor’s Ginger Ale & Sander’s ice cream. The beverage was named after the Boulevard and not the Massachusetts city. James Vernor’s drugstore located a short distance away made the unique combination seem very natural. Vernor’s produced an intense golden ginger ale, unlike most modern dry ginger ales. Until the 1920s ginger ale was the nation’s most popular choice of carbonated beverage, and Vernor’s happens to be our nation’s oldest soda. Soda connoisseurs still advocate to this day that if you want to taste ginger ale the way it was meant to taste locate a Vernor’s.

This used is $9.97

Montreal sucks.

Then again COD has a score of 3/5 (which for some reason I expected it to be 2/5 or some thing like that), Mobile Suit Gundam EXTREME VS-FORCE got 2/5 (but then again It was missing somethings at launch at some of those reviews did not change so they could have actually been 2.5/5 or something like that), Conception 2 is 3.5/10 (most wound agree that its not that good of a game at all and that you should avoid it if possible), then there is oreshika tainted bloodlines which got a 2/5 (while it is not brought up often people seem to enjoy this game and it has rather high ratings from western game reviewers which give it about a 8/10). From what I recall gamers in Japan tend to be more harsh on games on Amazon because that seems to be the place that they can "vent" or something of the sort (if there is something wrong with the game) and it becomes easier for others to view it.I also recall reading an article where gaming website and magazines tend to be a bit different from the west and seem to be solely PR stuff, (Which some western gaming sites also do). Something else that you will notice is that when western sites make a video it feels more like a news video that you would see on TV, where most of the Japanese video game videos that I have seen also just seem to be PR stuff with a press conference and the like. (I'm actually really annoyed with some of those Japanese "live" game play videos that are done for PR especially when there is a girl there because all she seems to do is say "hi,hi,hi" aka saying yes, yes, yes over and over again). Also never watch IGN gameplay video those people act like they have never played a video game before. Also if anything those reviews (even though I can't read Japanese) give me the impression that the game will be mediocre which I can live with as long as a buy a LE before the game is released since the LE will possibly only go up in price or not change at all, which is different from JPN LEs that do go down in price. Also I just want LEs because in the end the game is just going to collect dust and I might sell it down the road for a possible profit.

u/jojewels92 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have wanted a DS for years! The 3D doesn't even really appeal to me but I want a handheld console so bad. Haha my favorite video game when I was a kid was Crash Bandicoot. I wish they would make one for the PS3!

Thanks so much for doing this contest love.

u/IMakeIce · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Umm...I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but:

  • NIB - FF8: $12.00
  • NIB - FF9: $12.00
  • NIB - FFA: $16.00
  • NIB - FFC: $15.00
  • NIB - FFO: $19.00

(From Amazon...there are cheaper options for all of the above through independent Amazon marketplace stores)

You fell victim to dealers overhyping rarity...which happens way too often to a lot of people, so nothing against you. It is the reason prices are so high on games that are just plain and simple not rare or monetarily valuable. I just wish more people armed themselves with knowledge and stopped letting dealers shaft customers so often.

The original release Halo and $7.00 for GH RE4 were pretty good deals though, kudos on those!

Edit: By numbered, you mean 7, 8, and 9? Do you have A, C, and O yet? I also notice that in your Backloggery, 7 is the only beaten one you have, which one is your next play through? n_n I love the PS Final Fantasies.
u/leftshoe18 · 2 pointsr/silenthill

I would recommend not playing Silent Hill 1 on PS3 as it is quite buggy in parts. If you can get a PS1/PS2 to play it on that would be the way to go. I would definitely urge you to get a physical copy for this one. Looks like you can get it for about $25 on Amazon.

For Silent Hill 2 and 3 you are absolutely correct that the PS2 versions are the way to go (though the PC versions are quite good as well). For Silent Hill 2 be sure to get the Greatest Hits/Director's Cut version as it has more content than the standard release.

>As far as I understand you can get Book of Memories on PSN buy you need a vita to play it, right?

Yes, Book of Memories is only playable on the Vita. Personally I'm waiting for the Vita price to drop enough that I can justify buying it for just one game but they're still going for like $150.

Great contest! I would love it, since my only handheld game is a gameboy color that recently decided to stop working. This is probably my all time favorite game. It took me forever to beat because it's really hard and I kept getting mad and playing something else instead. LOL

u/qchto · 1 pointr/wiiu

While I agree that it's uncommon nowadays for a 10 year old game to add in value, first prints are still collector's items (even though Atlus hadn't really helped with this by basically reprint the ones with growing popularity).
I suspect this game is in that category (and Atlus would probably not reprint it, as digital distribution is now a day-1 option), meaning that in 20 years it'd be possible to find it among articles like the original Persona / Persona 2 for the original PSX (and that's coming from someone still hunting down for the first one at a decent price).

u/pheliam · 1 pointr/gaming

My first FF was 8 on PC, then I played 7 on PC, then 10 on PS2 at a friend's house. When I got my own PS2 and played 9, I was blown away at how much of a true gem it is. Seriously, man, do yourself a favor.

u/dicarosmith · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you have an original PlayStation you can still get a sealed copy of the game for less than the Switch version price. Super worth playing btw.

The game is currently getting slammed on Amazon JP, most of the 5 reviews are mocking it like ["I bought this for the Heine Destiny gunpla kit ticket" or "I managed to buy some delicious cake because I was on my way to buying the game, rated 5 for the cake".](http://www.amazon.co.jp/product-reviews/B0166FC9J2/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_summary?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=byRankDescending)

Siliconera article: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/12/23/gundam-extreme-vs-force-is-getting-plasma-blasted-by-amazon-reviews-in-japan/

Also not mentioned in the video, the game actually cut a lot of corners. Many suits are missing, even main character suits like 00 and Strike Freedom, which is ridiculous.

u/bdspinoza · 2 pointsr/PS3

You could just get Final Fantasy Chronicles and Chrono Cross, since the PS3 supports PS1 discs.

I could see Sony putting Chrono Cross on the PSN with the other PS1 games, but I think there's more of a chance of Chrono Trigger being brought over to the PSP, much like Final Fantasy I, II, and Tactics.

u/iCeCoCaCoLa64 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Oh well if you truly think that, you may be interested in this more than a PC.

u/BatmanV2 · 2 pointsr/gameswap

Seems a bit favored on your end. As I can purchase a brand new sealed copy from Amazon, for $20. http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-VIII-Playstation/dp/B0000296O5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341607017&sr=8-1&keywords=final+fantasy+8

Interested in anything else, perchance?

u/mbd34 · 1 pointr/tipofmytongue

I kind of wish I'd held on to my original copy that I bought back in the day, as well as other Playstation games that I later sold. They're only going up in value. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002STPM/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1367695289&sr=8-1&keywords=einhander+psx&condition=used

u/1_0 · 2 pointsr/gaming

If you haven't already got these on an older system, I highly recommend the classic Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.

(sorry for Amazon link; not trying to promote them that way, but you can find good reviews there, if desired)

u/TriumphantBass · 3 pointsr/FinalFantasy

I'd grab it for PSN, it's a better port than the iOS version.

If you're planning to play it on PS3, I'd actually recommend just getting a physical copy of Anthology for PS1, which includes both V and VI.

You can still get a new copy for $10, the same price as either of them alone on PSN. http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Anthology-VI-Playstation/dp/B00002R28C/

u/finallife6 · 6 pointsr/Megaten

If your looking for the ps1 copies, I hope you have some cash, I was looking at amazon as I was curious

For the two on amazon (probably cheaper on some other website, and I'm not including the Persona 2 Innocent Sin as its japanese only for psx) its around 90$ for both, while I've seen Persona 1 and both 2's 5$ each on PSN sales

u/Ghenn · 1 pointr/MMORPG

I think how it is now is better. Buying games was very hit or miss back in the day.

I found some games like this one in store. Knew nothing about it. Looked at the front, gazed at the back... randomly decided to buy it. Turned out to be a good choice.

The worst thing about buying from the store was once the game sold, there goes your chance of ever finding it (usually). I really wanted to get Brigandine and Lunar 2 and never found a copy anywhere. Now they're sought after collector pieces.

It is so easy to find old games today for dirt cheap thanks to digital stores. Bad if you were a game collector I guess. Great for everyone else.

u/jim2point0 · 1 pointr/gaming

I believe mine was 4. This editorial review on amazon seems to agree with my memory.

> Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete

u/neut6o1 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

If anyone wants sealed versions of two of these games, amazon has them for $10 each. Greatest Hits versions.

u/TwitchingJarppi · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

Thanks for the answer, I was under the belief that somehow the black disc held more data. Also since you mentioned Hong Kong "silvers" I think Square Enix sells them on amazon here and here

u/GreenMegaMegaMan · -1 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Interestingly enough, I just searched on amazon and you can currently get the original, ps1 disc version for $14.25 NEW. Seems strange that you can get it even CHEAPER than the digital port.

I plan on waiting for some kind of sale before I pick it up on switch :P

First, I'd give roughly 40% of it to Uncle Sam, because he says I'm a nice person and am willing to share with him. After that's all said and done, I buy a Batmobile

EDIT: I suppose I should leave an item

Here ya go! That's a ps1 anthology playable on your ps2 that has 6 in it. It's less than $17 and you get 5 as a bonus :D

u/runtheplacered · 1 pointr/gaming

This will be what you're specifically looking for. When they released FFVI on PS1 they bundled it with FF V and called it "Anthology". So it is actually two games in one.

u/Hammershaw · 7 pointsr/Games

For anyone interested, you can still order brand new copies of Chrono Cross for the PS1 from Square Enix's website and Amazon for about $15+shipping.

Amazon's store page and here's Square Enix's store page.

u/TheAngryRed · 2 pointsr/silenthill

If you still feel the desire to get into the series, I'd recommend you do whatever you can to play the first game. You can find it on the PSN store but if that option isn't available then there are plenty of cheap used copies on amazon. If you can get past the dated graphics and controls, you'll find it has the same formula that made 2 and 3 so awesome.

u/phDom · 1 pointr/gaming

I still play the hell out of these games on a regular basis. I love my PS1.

  1. Tomb Raider II
  2. Spyro II (better than the original IMO)
  3. Final Fantasy Chronicles
  4. Twisted Metal 4
u/kekspernikai · 4 pointsr/gaming

I tried to do this recently. The days of my Knights of the Round and Golden Chocobos were too tempting. However, the graphics got to me pretty quick...

You could always sell it.

u/cynicaljedi · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

They are not resealed, they are reprints. This is how Square has been sealing them. Square continues to manufacture a few of their popular titles so these are NOT "New Old Stock" but just plain old "New Stock".

Edit: If you were to buy this sold and shipped as "New" by Amazon, it would be in the same shrink wrap as this is how they are sealed by the manufacturer these days.

u/mybustersword · 2 pointsr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/Einhander/dp/B00002STPM

i hope you looked online first.

u/crash7800 · 2 pointsr/gaming

Even if the load times are rough I would still recommend playing FFVI as a part of Final Fantasy Anthology. It is a great game and is much more expensive to play legally on the SNES. You also get the super-awesome cut scenes.

While there are some Final Fantasy games that make references to each other (Tactics and XII take place in the same world, but many many years apart; Cloud from FFVII is in Tactics; etc.) the cameos and references are negligible. The exception to this is Final Fantasy X-2.

u/AnotherChocobo · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Whoever did that to you is a 100% prime grade-A asshole. Looks like you can buy a sealed copy of FF9 on Amazon for twelve bucks and some change, though.

u/yemd · 3 pointsr/FinalFantasy

you won't find just the first disc unless you want to pay an insane amount on ebay.

just buy the greatest hits version for $15 on amazon

u/zgred2 · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

For PC: To start playing you need just A Realm Reborn, which will grant you all content from 1-50 including the 2 years of patch content before Heavensward released. The only thing you will be missing out on is creating an Au Ra character that you can start the game as from level 1.
Then you need Heavensward, which grants access to the 50-60 content, with the new land (6 zones), 3 new jobs and the 2 years of Heavensward patch content. It also lets you either make an Au Ra character, or change your character's race to an Au Ra.
There is also a bundle where you may buy both the base game and the expansion together, but there is no bundle with Collector's Edition goodies.
You will need both collector's editions if you want all the digital goodies, or you can buy upgrades to both editions in order to get them, whenever you choose to.
On Steam it looks exactly the same. The only downside is that you are bound to buy everything on Steam and the box edition codes will not work with Steam. This makes it hard if you wish to have the physical collector's editions as their codes will not work with the Steam version and you would need to buy the collector's box and the Steam upgrade for Stormblood, for example.
For PS4:
It's the same as on PC, except the digital PSN codes and the box editions codes can be mixed and matched without issues.

On the playstation store? If so, that's a damn shame. But then again buying digital on consoles is never the economic route:

Did a bit more checking. Found that, don't know if it helps. Seems a tad expensive, but there may be cheaper versions or ROMs

Weird that the store doesn't offer the base game...
Amazon.com has the base game as a digital download for $19.99, $22.98 if he'd prefer a boxed version.
Maybe the game is on the PS Store as well?
