Top Reddit comments about Power Paint & HVLP Sprayers:

u/slap- · 2 pointsr/Cerakote

I posted this in a now deleted thread a few months ago. I'm sure there are better options but this is what I bought and it works well for the price. The blast media is a higher grit than Cerakote recommends but I haven't had any issues with using it, my finish comes comes out nice and smooth. Here is a link to the Cerakote training manual, give it a read to see the process.

$120 Benchtop Blast Cabinet (make sure you use a 20% off coupon)

$45 50lbs Aluminium Oxide blast media (make two trips, use another coupon)

$40 Dewalt Touch-up Spray gun

$8 Oil/Water Separator

$18 3M Respirator

$8 Powder Free gloves

$14 5ml Glass syringe for easily measuring small amounts of H-Series catalyst. Not necessary but nice. (Grainger.com)

$20 Gallon of Acetone (hardware store)

$30 for misc hoses/fittings

$$$ Container for soaking parts in acetone. I use a 50cal ammo can for almost everything

$$$ Oven for curing if using H-series. I use an old large toaster oven.

$$$ Air compressor with regulator (I already had this)

$$$ Cerakote (plus mesh strainer, graduated cylinder, tape, etc)

$300 not including the compressor, Cerakote or oven.

Like the other guy said, there are other finish options available but I've never tried them (yet) so I can't comment there. I have been very happy with Cerakote. Proper preparation really can't be stressed enough, I'm sure that applies no matter what finish you decide to use.

If you're going to be decorating, do yourself a favour and [buy one of these.] (https://www.amazon.com/Wagner-0518050-Control-Double-Sprayer/dp/B001JEPEES/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467903132&sr=8-2&keywords=wagner+paint+sprayer) I've been decorating a new premises for my business lately, I've sprayed all the inside with various emulsions as well as all the new wooden cladding on the outside in acrylic eggshell. It's made it so, so much easier, neater and quicker. You still have to cut in by hand of course.

Just be sure to clean it religiously.

Also, say hi to your neighbours! If they seem nice, invite them over for a grill or something. Good relationships with neighbors can make a huge difference.

It's really easy to do. I used a generic version of this to spray it on. https://www.amazon.com/Wagner-0529021-Flexio-Sprayer-Station/dp/B00IA8EVIQ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1499968384&sr=8-7&keywords=wagner+sprayer

the more you use the better. LOTS of coats = easier to peel later if you decide to do that. I sprayed 6 gallons total on my jeep which was something like 12 coats. You want to do the first 2-3 coats light, then start laying it on pretty thick. Just be sure to avoid runs. We waited about 15 minutes between coats. If its real humid you may need to wait longer.

We did almost no prep. Just washed the jeep in Dawn dish detergent and then rubbed it down with rubbing alcohol right before we dipped.

Good luck!

No worries, this gun here:

https://www.amazon.com/Wagner-0529010-Outdoor-Hand-held-Sprayer/dp/B00FBP4QT0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468252824&sr=8-1&keywords=wagner+paint+sprayer

would get you a lot of what you are looking for, it might even be more than you need but you can look at the details of this sprayer and others like it, it can adjust the flow and spray pattern depending if you are staining, painting or whatever else you want to spray. For around $100 I would say it is worth it if you have a few projects around the house like interior walls, outdoor furniture or decks and even exterior painting. You just get the stain or correct paint or even plasti dip if you want to do your car. It might take some guess and checking to get the right flow and coverage at first when you start a new project but do a couple test spots first and you should be good to go!

The gun should come with everything you need to spray but you will need the paint or stain you want plus any tape, drop clothes stuff like that. The gun comes with a paint cup that you just fill up, set the flow rate and spray pattern and start shooting!

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions

I bought a Fujispray mini mite 3 with the gravity feed cup and I've been very pleased with it. The gun is easy to take apart and clean, and the pattern is nice. The first project I ever sprayed was the Game of Scones table I posted a few days ago and it came out quite well. I sprayed dye, sanding sealer, and General Finishes precat urethane through it. As a spray novice, I found it pretty intuitive to use and easy to go from no experience to spraying a paid job in a few hours.

Graco Magnum 262805 X7 HiBoy Cart Airless Paint Sprayer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026SSW8G/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_ODTwybWFWJYXM

That's what I got! It should save a bunch of time and allow us to easily paint the outside brick :)

u/paul345 · 1 pointr/MTB

squirt this on. Rinse with one of these and you're done. Doesn't need to be blasted - the more gentle a spray you can use the better unless you want to blast the grease out of all your bearings

Do this at the trails while the mud is still wet and it just falls off.

I kind of feel like the guy is talking idealism rather than realism. Realistically, of all the reasons to use two airbrushes (detail/large area), durability of the needle is really just not a concern with a quality brush. Yes, the needle will erode over time. No, it won't erode so fast that needle durability should be part of the decision making process. I won't say this guy was trying to lead you to a bigger sale (although I kind of think he is), but I will say that if you're going to pick one brush for detail and another for area work, get a proper gun for it. This would be an example of a gun used specifically for area work:

https://www.amazon.ca/Iwata-W-101-Spray-Gun-Pc-5/dp/B00OA9OUV2/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1494702486&sr=8-11&keywords=iwata+airbrush+gun

If you know that you'll be making some of the really large aircraft or ships, maybe a second gun for area work is a good choice but again it's based on the convenience factor, not the durability factor. You might not want to base coat a 3 foot long aircraft carrier with a brush that barely manages a 0.5" diameter pattern.

If it were me making the decision, I would pick a good all-around brush and see how it performs and if I find that the large area work is a bit tedious, then I'd look at a second option. Not only would you then be deciding based on your experience (rather than the questionable advice of a shopkeeper) you'll also have a better idea of what that second airbrush should look like. Do you want just a bit more coverage (second needle or second brush with larger needle) or do you want to step up to something like what I linked that can really lay down the paint in a hurry?

Either way, I'd say you don't have to decide right now. It's hard to be unhappy with a quality all-purpose airbrush.

Still debating on doing full truck yet. Black would look nice but I don't Know if I would gloss it or if I would do the bed cover ect...

I used Flexdip for the plastic trim and also Protectdip for the rims. Will update on how the quality is.

If I do decide to dip the entire thing will this sprayer be good? I assume it will be and I am only choosing this sprayer because it is available for me to use without having to buy one myself. http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-0515034-ProCoat-Airless-Sprayer/dp/B004SUEYPK

I just got a neiko and with a sufficient compressor it seems to do great!

u/yellowman91 · 6 pointsr/Welding

make sure your air is super dry. what kind of air filter are you using? get a water separator at the air compressor and one more before your air hose then put one of these paint gun filters on the plasma cutter. https://www.amazon.com/TCP-Global-Disposable-Filters-Standard/dp/B0041E72B6/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=paint+gun+filters&qid=1569478087&s=gateway&sr=8-10

you can buy them at NAPA

Fuji Q5 Platinum. I have had mine for almost two years now, it’s awesome.

Get an asian style ass-blaster. It's a water gun you connect to the water outlet to the toilet, spray clean and wipe dry. It's fast and amazing.

u/marrano10 · 1 pointr/finishing

chec the Fuji HVLP out. It is not professional but it is better than the homegamer stuff.

u/CherryCandee · 3 pointsr/everymanshouldknow

did you ever try those spray painters such as this? IF so, are they any good?

u/syncr23 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I recently bought an Amazon cheapo texture sprayer based on a Youtube endorsement of that Kilted Guy. It worked really really well. Not sure if the small hopper would be a problem for your job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUiSeoOP2bk

I already had a basic pancake compressor (6gallon) combo and it worked fine. amazon link

u/sk33t · 1 pointr/Miata

I used this HVLP sprayer. I believe there's an updated version that's better now.

u/captain_jim2 · 1 pointr/woodworking

I actually used a cheap paint sprayer I found on amazon... The toolforce ac3 ... Such a great sprayer. I had some issues at first but I wasn't thnning my paint out enough.

I was always under the impression that the DYC equipment was just a re-labeled Earlex system. At the most, they are the same gun with different compressors.

Would you recommend the preval aerosol cans over a regular paint gun like this?

This is a possibility.

Hi guys,

I want to do some painting. Lots of painting.

In my house:

u/MSD0 · 2 pointsr/Tools

I used to have the same sprayer. Biggest problem with it was the lack of replacement parts. Ended up throwing it away because they didn’t have a repair kit for the priming valve. I would recommend stepping up to at least the X7 or one of the pro series sprayers with the tall stand so you can spray directly from a 5 gallon container.

u/myindiannameistoolon · 3 pointsr/HomeImprovement

I picked this guy up last fall with these projects in mind and haven’t been disappointed.
https://www.amazon.com/Neiko-31215A-Gravity-Nozzle-Aluminum/dp/B000UVR458
As long as it’s not a brush it’s a big step up.

u/kelei · 1 pointr/subaru

Wouldn't it be cheaper if you just bought the paint and the sprayer and do it yourself? Or is there something else I'm missing?
