Evening Primrose Oil with LA and GLA, nourishes, strengthens and promotes a healthy scalp. This bonding process creates a protective layer that helps retain moisture, adding luster to your locks.
  • ADDED CONDITIONIG: Using our Leave-in, in addition to the Mixed Chicks daily conditioner will provide additional and ongoing benefits to your hair and scalp. This is about a 3b. I have 3b hair and while his cut is a lot different than mine the curl is pretty similar.

You need a good daily hair care routine that is going to require some trial and error on your end.

Here's a basic step by step routine:

Detangling - Get in the habit of detangling your hair while its wet. Get yourself a widetooth comb intended for detangling (like this one) and while your hair is wet use it and your fingers to pull out any of your tangles, pay close attention to the back of your head where it would normally rest against any sort of headrest (chair, car, whatever). Don't worry about getting them all, this is something you'll be doing throughout the routine, we're just getting started.

Now that we've loosened up our hair it's time to cleanse it.

Cleanser - It's best to think of this step like face wash, but for your hair, in this step you're getting rid of any oils or products still left in your hair and cleaning it.

There are three main types:

  1. Shampoo - We don't want normal shampoo, however, it isn't good for our hair. You want a non-sulfate shampoo, which won't dry out or damage your hair.

  2. Hair Cleanser - Often comes in a creme form, this is one of the more popular shampoo alternatives.

  3. Cowash - This is a conditioner that also cleanses. Sort of like those all in one bottles of body wash/shampoo/conditioners except its just conditioner intended to clean your hair without damaging it like a sulfate shampoo. I currently use a cowash, this one in particular.

With your hair still wet use your cleanser of choice and wash your hair, but before you start washing it out, it's time to break out your detangler comb and work out the tougher tangles now that your hair is lubed up and they'll give easier.

Wash the product out and if you weren't using a cowash, go ahead and use your favorite conditioner (this is going to be a big experiment on your part, personally I cut this out by going the cowash route).

To Dry or Not to Dry?

So the next stype is styling your curls with any number of products, but before we get to that step, there's another thing you're going to want to experiment with, which is, whether or not you want to dry your hair before applying it. Personally, I prefer a good middle ground on this as it gives me the best results, so I'll towel dry my hair a little bit so that it's no longer "wet" but sort of "damp". Experiment with this until you find the best results for you.

    Curl Definintion, Anti-Frizz, and Styling

Now that your hair is clean and conditioned and ready to apply hair product let's talk about some hair products. I recommend picking up at least 1 of each of the big options I'll list below because they each do things a little differently and often times you can find yourself mixing and matching and experimenting to find the best results.

    The big ones to consider:

  4. Leave-In Conditioner/Hair Milk - These are light hair products that are meant to hydrate/moisturize your hair. They are great to get your hair ready to style and are often used as a refresher to re-define loose curls and combat frizz. In some cases this is all you need to get a nice leave and go hair style. I have been using this leave-in for a few months now and I love it!
  5. Curl Creme/Smoothie - This product is all about softening, moisturizing, refreshing, conditioning, styling, and combatting frizz, a lot like a Leave-In, and because they are so much like a leave-in you can use them as such, some cremes/smoothies are marketed that way. It's a moistorizing styler that leaves your hair soft to the touch unlike other options. I use this curl smoothie, I have been using this one for 2 months now, but I experimented with a lot before settling on this one.
  6. Curl Definer/Pomade - In contrast to the Creme/Smoothie option we have the definer/pomade/gel option. These are good for hold, shine, and controlling frizz. They have a sleek/wet/polished look to them as they lock in moisture and often have wax in them. This combination makes them great for maintaining that defined curl look throughout the day, where others you'll have to re-apply or refresh at some point in a longer day. These products will leave your hair crunchy or oily or both, especially if you over-use the product, and if you have naturally oily hair I'd avoid using this product entirely. I have two products for this job. First is Curls' Gel-Les'C, which is pretty light (thanks to using a little gel in its mixture) and doesn't give me too much crunch, which I like. The second is
Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey, which I'm really liking.

Once you figure out which products youre going to use, follow their directions and style your hair the way you like.

But just to quickly review my process is as follows:

  7. Wake up, shower, de-tangle.
  8. Cowash + detangle some more.
  9. Partially dry the hair, and put in leave-in conditioner.
  10. I let it sit for a few minutes while I get dressed/make breakfast/whatever.
  11. Apply either Curl Creme/Smoothie or Pomade and style. My day-to-day is the curl creme and I usually shake and go/finger comb and use a pick to make sure there's an equal amount of "puff" all around.

    Hope this helps!

Sure!!! I LOVE all things beauty and hair!

Sulfate Free Shampoos & Conditioners:

Anecdotal experience coming your way!

My hair: very low porosity, very fine, kinda thin, dry and prone to split ends, longish (bra strap length), wavy (type 2a), damaged from previous abuse, oily scalp... I used to have to wash every day and would still look oily and stringy by the end of the day.

Dry shampoo: I'm a big fan of homemade solutions, and arrowroot powder (or corn starch, but I think the arrowroot is finer and more invisible) and cocoa powder (to match my color, my roommie uses cinnamon on her red hair), worked a LOT better for me than anything I tried from the store! All of them either looked good for the first few hours but left me clumpy later in the day, or you could see them in my hair no matter how much brushing I did. I just dust the arrowroot/cocoa powder on my fingertips and work it into my roots when I need it, and it actually gives me a lot of volume.

Current routine that I'm in LOVE with: conditioner only method using Trader Joes Nourish Spa Conditioner once every 2-3 days, and keep my hair dry on off days with an ugly shower cap. I've interrogated all my friends on day 3 about whether or not it looks oily and they think I'm crazy and say it looks like I'm fresh out of the shower. Deep condition once a weekish with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner, and occasionally (maybe once a month, if that) wash with the shampoo in the same line if I get foreign crud in my hair from painting/what have you. The CO-washing totally takes care of my natural sweat/oils, even when I spent an entire day outside working my ass off in 98 degree heat. Since I've started doing this my natural texture has absolutely exploded, split ends have gone way down (I actually haven't gotten it cut since April and it still looks GORGEOUS, like I get complimented a LOT), and I no longer feel the need to use styling products beyond a little hairspray if I'm wearing it up or a glycerin mist if I want to make my waves even bigger (apparently glycerin can be tricky, proceed with caution! ) It's worth figuring out your hair porosity to determine what kind of protein/moisture balance your hair needs, I found this page to be really helpful. I sleep with it in an upside down french braid and that does all my styling for me, also keeps me from getting weird parts/matts etc in my sleep, and I've heard it's better for your hair not to sleep with it loose.

I've been doing this routine all summer (experimenting with no poo techniques for a year, CO-washing for about 6 months) and I can honestly say I've NEVER been this happy with my hair, and I've never spent so little money or energy on it. I'm so damn happy, I feel like an evangelical because I go on this rave about it so often.

In short: Damn the man! Save the empire! Shampoo is the root of all evil.

EDIT: Holy cow, sorry for the novel! But seriously, did I convey how happy this makes me? Great. Also, had absolutely NO transition period, aside from learning how to throughly massage my scalp. ALSO, here's a link to suggestions for good CO-washing conditioners Ok... watching Dexter now. Hope this was helpful!

I have this same patch. I put in Havana Twists to keep the ends protected and it's helped a lot. Between that and my regimen, I've been seeing that section match up to the rest of my hair length. It's still a little shorter but it's a lot stronger and there's way less breakage there than there used to be.

I don't shampoo my hair ever. I just co-wash using This Trader Joe's conditioner. Though I do plan on switching to This conditioner by them because I've heard great reviews about it and my hair stops being really responsive to conditioners after a while. My hair still responds to the first one relatively well but I've noticed it's seeming a little more lack luster than when I first started using it.

I spray my hair/scalp with a mix of Aloe Juice and Water every day and use either just straight up coconut oil or this hair moisturizer (I know you're not all for a bunch of homemade stuff but I essentially swear by her products. They make my hair so soft and they seal in the moisture perfectly, helping bring out more natural shine). With that product, a little goes a long way. so though it's 16 bucks you're putting down, it will last you a while. I bought my first bottle of it about 4-5 months ago and I still haven't made much of a dent in it.

The biggest thing is probably making sure that part of your head is getting the amount of moisture it needs and locking it in.

I've also started doing deep conditioning protein treatments once a month or so. It's gross but I use a small thing of Greek Yogurt, one egg, a bunch of honey and vitamin E. My hair responds so well to it, and I make sure to slather that part with it a ton because it helps strengthen it a shit load. My hair has also been incredibly responsive to it, leading to way less breakage then what I used to get.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

this happens to me towards the end of my wash cycle -_- (i try to only wash my hair once a week, twice tops) so to stretch it out, i use a verrrrrrrry soft boar bristle brush combined with this spray- works super well! they have it in different scents, but this is the one i've been using for the past 6 months and it has argan and hemp oil which are both great for hair! just squirt a little on your hands, run through the parts prone to tangles/tangled parts, and brush through with the soft boar bristle brush. i use this one :)

then afterward if you feel like your hair is a bit flat/limp (i also have fine, delicate, easily breakable hair so i know the styling struggle!) i will squirt a littttttle dry shampoo on the crown/roots, will brush through with a round boar bristle/nylon brush, and then use a hair dryer for less than 30 seconds just to give it some volume. works pretty well for the last 2 days before i wash again! i prefer to use batiste with a hint of dark brown because i'm a brunette and it doesn't leave any residue, and they also have lighter brown/blonde. this one by tigi is also ok but is definitely stickier than batiste i've found

since my hair type is like yours, i've noticed on the days i keep touching it cuz i have this nervous hair flipping tic, it gets greasier and knottier A LOT quicker, so try not to touch it at all!! hope i helped! :)

Edit: sorry the links formatted so weird- I input them on a desktop but just now saw on Mobile they came out all sorts of wonky. I'm sorry about that!! 😖

The only one I've tried is Selsun Blue, but a lot of people really love the Nizoral. It's hard for me to say which one would be best for you. Here's the amazon links: https://www.amazon.com/Nizoral-D-Anti-Dandruff-Shampoo-Oz/dp/B00AINMFAC?th=1

https://www.amazon.com/Selsun-Blue-Medicated-Strength-Dandruff/dp/B001UGL84U?th=1

So I don't know if there's any truth to this, but I have this theory that hair adapts or gets used to the shampoo I use. I like switching up the active ingredients in the shampoo. Hopefully that will help you. There's a chance you might have dry scalp, doing an oil treatment with tea tree oil might help. I've used this cheap one at Walmart before You could try buying tea tree oil and diluting it in a carrier oil. Some people swear by diluting Apple Cider Vinegar, and putting it in a spray bottle and using it on the scalp.

I know, the number of Shea Moisture products is overwhelming. I did a bunch of research before I bought their products. I'd say that the internet's favorite styling products are these:

  • The Curl Enhancing Smoothie. This is more like a leave-in than a gel. It's a nice and heavy product, which I really like. It has some protein in it. My hair is protein sensitive and it's too much for regular use.
  • Moisture retention conditioner. This is super moisturizing and protein free. It's a bit lighter than the smoothie. The advantage of this product is that you can use it as a leave-in or rinse out or deep conditioner. I've gotten great results from using it as a leave-in. I'm using it less lately because I think it made my hair over-moisturized. Like it feels too soft now.
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil Reparative Leave-In Conditioner. I've never tried this but it's well loved. It has a lot of protein which some people like.
  • If you want something lighter, the new Fruit Fusion Mousse is well liked. (Not to be confused with the 10 in 1 super fruit line.) I've never used this product either but I want to try it.

Love this idea! Maybe once we grow a bit more we can do more specific threads, too. This sub has been a wealth of information already, I love it.

Hair
Description: I have long curly hair. My goal is to keep it voluminous on top, and not-frizzy with defined loose corkscrews on the bottom. Similar Similar I do the "no-poo"/Curly Girl Method method which eliminates sulfates and silicones.

Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner: I used to be a firm believer in using expensive hair care products exclusively. I used Redken for many years, then wandered into DevaCurl territory when I started No-Poo. Nothing was able to detangle, soften, and moisturize my hair just right, until THIS!

Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner I use this as a leave-in conditioner. Gels and mousse have worked similarly, but my husband hates the crunchy feel. This holds my curls, yet keeps them soft and touchable.

Skin
Description: I'm 25, used to tan, but after noticing a sun spot, I stopped! Since then, I've been focused on anti-aging and taking good care of my skin.

Biore Sunscreen SPF 50 this is the product that changed my life and stopped my skin from aging. Not greasy, no whitecast, sits well under makeup. I can't recommend Asian sunscreen enough, and this one is my favorite!

Perfume
Elizabeth and James Nirvana White "peony, chic muguet, and tender musk for a feminine scent with dark sophistication" so lovely. The first perfume my husband stopped to specifically comment on! Honorable mention to Nirvana Bourbon as well. In fact, has anyone here tried the Nirvana Rose? I'm interested but unfortunately don't have a way to smell it for free where I live!

u/FinalOfficeAction · 2 pointsr/standupshots

Head on over to r/curlyhair. The Curly Girl method, which is what we use over there, requires using sulfate and silicone free hair products. So if you are looking for that kind of product, that's where you want to look because the sidebar has a link to a giant list of sulfate-free hair products, including shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and much more. My brand of choice is Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner (any version works awesome for me but this is my favorite), which can be bought on Amazon for like $12 a bottle or $20 for a set, and styling products are similarly priced. There are cheaper options out there, too, if you're on a tight budget.

Bonus points if you actually have curly hair because the CGM is honestly fucking amazing. I was skeptical at first but finally tried it about 2 months ago and it has changed the way I view, care for, and style my hair and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results.

Good luck!

u/Bri-ness · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

How does this post on AskWomen get approved when I just tried to submit one like 10 mins ago with that exact same wording, but changed "hair product" to "skincare product" and mine got auto-deleted.....??????????

Anyway...... I LOVE Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo. It smells great and it's the best dry shampoo I've tried. It doesn't leave that white, powdery residue and gets rid of the oily-ness (?) without having to wash your hair. I try to not wash my hair every day, so I'll use this in between and it works great for me. It's cheaper to get on Ebay though. Same product, just not as pricey!

u/solosoulrider · 2 pointsr/BurningMan

Ahhhh these are my favorite things to encounter!!!!!! A few things I love as a stanky lady on playa (in case you care)

  • poo-pourri. Maybe buy 10ish and just restock if they are commandeered?
  • dry shampoo
  • spray deodorant
  • lavender wipes to go

Another BIG one I would love to see -- why not also decorate a cool, small trash bin for people to put their wipes into? The wipes are not supposed to go into the potty hole, but time after time again I see them in there when I look into the hole. What I imagine is that someone didn't know, brought it into the porto, used it to wipe their poo-poo, & see the signs but are now like "well shit what do I do?" So maybe having a place for their wipes would help this!? It will be gross for you but just strap on those rubber gloves baby!

I'm assuming you are planning to come through every once and a while to check on your gift so maybe it can be a little daily :)

In terms of securing stuff, would it be kosher if you got a few of these bad boys and then tied the items to hang them?

I have no idea if this info is helpful but hope it is!! And hope I get to experience your porto gift!
u/MyNameIsAdam · 1 pointr/beards

Never seen anyone mention it here, but I recently started using Maple Holistics Argan Oil Shampoo and Silk 18 Conditioner. Not cheap, but they really are incredible products, I went from some suave shampoo and conditioner and the difference is amazing. Both products use argan oil, jajoba oil, and other natural oils and ingredients that result in my beard being softer than it's ever been.

Bonus, both products are excellent in hair as well, so you get to benefit too.

u/Nekkosan · 4 pointsr/abdiscussion

Etude 3 layer cotton puff I used to like the muji 4 layered ones, but last few orders were really hard to separate and bulky. Etude you really quite small squares in small box but they are more like singles. You don't have to separate. If you are doing lotion masks - do NOT get these. They are too small. If you are just applying acids (I think and don't need a big wipe, it's great. The box is small it takes up less room. Cotton Labo is similar and bigger square and prretty easy to seaparte and comes in a box (stores better).

Magic Bang Squares It's great if you have gangs. They are velcro squares and really hold your bangs back. They aren't cute and look stupid. There are cuter ones, but these work better. I have thick bangs. I like them my bands out of my face while masking. The Etude kitten ears are too tight and hair bands mess up my hair more. Work as ace bandage clasps too.

Kai Razors: Are like Tinkles but sharper and more durable. A lot better. They have a buch of styles.

Ryeo Herbal Shampoo & Rinse Damaged Hair: very hangbang smell. Not a lot of lather, which I like. It does make scalp feel nice and your hair is soft. I got the damaged hair one. I have thick coarse, dry, wavy hair that is dyed.

u/BulletNo5 · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

Okay, that second paragraph is good advice. I kinda did that the first time around in March (there's a pic up there) - they said it was achievable, but definitely products play a major role. However, my hair is damaged, so I need to fix that first. I googled up something (kinda) near me, and it has like 43 reviews (all claiming that this one person is really good) and high rating. The price is 20 for men. The website doesn't look all that great though. The pictures (like 53 of them) are mostly girls, but all look fairly decent. There's another place (further) and it's like 15 for men, but has 90 reviews with high rating. Most of them seem to be girls.

Anyway, back to what I mentioned before, my hair is damaged, so AFTER the haircut - how do I make sure it grows out healthy and lush, non-damaged, non-frizzy, and thick as possible? That's my biggest issue. I don't want to get a haircut just to fuck up again - I don't mind trims, but fuck ups bother me lol. And, I guess, how to get thicker bangs (and hair) cause the pic's speak for themselves lol. That's where I read about keratin stuff, but yeah. To complicate it further, I'm not sure what products to buy and how frequently to use it. I'd really like someone who can help me on this via Skype or something. It'll mean so much<3.

And, I found these products, but again there's so many to choose from and dunno how frequently to use:

Can you explain exactly how you used the diffuser? How you held it, hot how hot the hairdryer was, how long you used it? That might help. I can't go without my diffuser!

I would try to go completely shampoo-free for 2-3 weeks. See what happens. You do need to give your hair time to adjust to it. It may take a while, but it WILL generate much less oil over time. After a few months, I could go without washing my hair (at all--no conditioner, nothing) for a week without it being noticeable. Well, noticeable in terms of oil--my curls weren't exactly at their best at that point. :)

If you really can't go without the shampoo, try something gentler. I can't remember off the top of my head if it's 100% Curly Girl Method-friendly (there are no parabens/sulfates at least), but I love the Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner if plain conditioner isn't cutting it that day.

Also, for frizz, have you tried leaving conditioner in your hair? I don't get a lot of results from leave-in conditioner, so I'll usually literally leave some regular conditioner in my hair rather than wash it out.

u/IcemanBlizz · 1 pointr/curlyhair

Here are few I found:

Traditional Shampoo (These will remove oils from your hair, but also dry it out. Use a lot of conditioner if you're going to use these, or a deep conditioner like this.)

Eden Bodyworks Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo - This is clarifying so use it rarely when you need a "Reset" with your hair.

Kinky Curly Come Clean - This also has a sulfate, so it will remove oil from your hair, good and bad.

Non-sulfate Shampoo (Great if you don't need to get every last bit of oil out of your hair)

Maple Holistics Argan Oil Shampoo - Probably one of the more gentle ones.

Shea Moisture Baobob Low Porosity Shampoo - Great if you have low porosity hair.

Co-Wash (You can use these daily if you wish as they don't strip the hair of many oils. These are also conditioners)

As I Am Coconut CoWash - Thick and great for high porosity hair, but on low porosity, it can build up.

DevaCurl Original No-Poo Cleanser - Pricey, though I do think they ship to Canada.

That tresemme leaves my hair super frizzy, oddly, and mine is only wavy. My hair is like a giant triangle when I use it, haha. maybe it's because my hair is so weightless naturally?

If the OGX line of shampoo/conditioners are okay here, the tea tree mint ones have been shockingly good at weighing my hair down without greasing it up. Bonus points: smells like a thin mint, makes scalp less itchy. Ah, found it: shampoo and conditioner

I also like the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo - Loreal Ever Fresh Anti-Danduff (Sulfate Free). Anything organic and sulfate free is okay. Other than that, tumitindi ang balakubak and flakes.

Deodorant - Crystal Body Rock Deodorant (Unscented, Aluminum/Parabens Free, Natural, Hypoallergenic, and leaves no stain)

Body/Facial Moisturizer - Lubriderm Men's 3-in-1 Lotion Fragrance Free

Lip Moisturizer - Burt's Bee 100% Natural Lip Balm

Toothpaste - Anything, actually. But Colgate is my go-to brand.

Soap - Ivory Fragrance Free or Irish Spring Classic

Hair Oil - Johnson & Johnson's Baby Oil.

Facial Wash - Clean & Clear Morning Burst Oil Free. Cetaphil is nice, too.

Dental Floss - Johnson & Johnson REACH (Mint waxed)

Briefs - Anything Bikini Briefs (multicolored sets). For local brands, I like Bench and Warren. They last a long time bago maging "baconized." :D

Colognes/Perfumes - too many to mention (I have more than 30 bottles that I rotate, excluding samples and decants)

I posted here a few weeks ago looking for Tips for my hair being very dry and causing matted knots on the underside of my hair even after washing my hair day one.

I actually already had the products, but I decided to try it again. I used Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curling Shampooand SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner I took the advice and applied the conditioner to the underside of my hair to help get it where it needed it most.

After stepping out of the shower I towel dried my hair and applied Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk

Plop until I felt like it, slept in a satin cap and bam! My hair is noticeably softer, the curls are a lot curlier not wanting to fall straight like they did before.

I have high prosperity hair, my hair would actually get frizzier and dryer as The days go by, these products have protein which has helped my hair get the moisture that it needs which has reduced the frizz and the drying out. Very happy with the out come, I washed on Friday (this pic is Sunday) and I’m still rocking my hair today Monday, I expect to make it most of this week with out needing to wash. I’m 38 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) this was for my baby shower!

I'd suggest experimenting with different shampoos. You need to try and find a good quality shampoo that it designed for oily hair. This should help to treat the smell and your oily scalp.

Are you using any other products like conditioner or hair oil? I'd suggest trying a leave in conditioner like http://www.amazon.com/HEALTHY-TRI-WHEAT-LEAVE-IN-CONDITIONER--PACKAGING/dp/B0009EXOO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405072139&sr=8-1

It's hard to give you much more advise without seeing what your hair looks like. I would suggest that you try what I've suggested and if it doesn't work then upload a photo here and ask for more advice! :)

u/geometric_kitten · 6 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Thick, coarse, wavy hair checking in. Shea Moisture products have worked well for me, they're cheap, and you can get them on Amazon or at Target. Their whole line for dry, damaged hair is great (here's the conditioner), but my holy grail product is the strengthen & restore leave in conditioner. After I shower and pat my hair dry with a t-shirt, I use a small amount of this stuff on the ends of my hair and particularly frizzy areas like the very top, and sort of massage it in. My hair will never be super sleek and smooth, but this stuff makes it shiny and manageable at least! Just be careful because too much of the product may make your hair stringy and over-conditioned.

I think most of their products fit into the curly girl method if you're interested in try that.

u/ThatGuyWithTheHat · 3 pointsr/gifs

I use Mane n Tail. Technically made for horses but they figured out it works great for people too. Especially for the problem described above. I use the conditioner leave-in (directions on can, but basically I put it in after I shower). Be careful not to use this shampoo too much; I never use it more than three times a week at this point. You should definitely take it slow with the shampoo, but the conditioner is key: you experiment with how much grease/conditioner (same thing for like 12 hours after you shower) you want in your hair to obtain the perfect level of greasiness/dryness

u/hrgoodman · 1 pointr/HaircareScience

No problem!

I would shampoo then condition each time you wash your hair. See if that holds your hair freshness a bit better.

The item you linked looks like an oil, something you would put in your hair when it is drying if you have dry hair. This looks more like what I would consider a traditional "conditioner".

I would make sure to use very little of whatever product you get (pea sized use) for best results.

Happy to help!

I wonder if your skin might need a thicker/stronger moisturizer too..personally I like cerave in the tub but really there are a billion that would help. If they don't sell the head and shoulders seb derm where you are then look for some selenium sulfide in any shampoo as the active ingredient (there are other really good ingredients that treat seb derm, just selenium sulfide is my fav). https://www.amazon.com/Head-Shoulders-Clinical-Seborrheic-Dermatitis/dp/B0043OSIVM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1495502048&sr=8-1&keywords=selenium+sulfide+shampoo

Two other good options are just a basic Zinc Pyrithione shampoo (make sure it’s sulfate free) or sulfur soap. I found the Ketoconazole was just too much for my skin, and washing daily with a much milder soap helped a ton!

It’ll take time to heal - mine took almost two months! I also made sure to keep my shower water filtered in case I was getting buildup on my scalp.

this is my routine and what works for me :

Put a mixture of Coconut oil + castor oil all over your hair the night before you wash wash it (I wash my hair every 2-3 days, I run so it gets all sweaty and oily). You don't have to use castor oil if you're not interested in growing it.

Then, I wash with organic tea tree oil castor soap, it's literally just oils.

Then I use Trader Joe's Organic Tea Tree conditioner and do the squish to condish but I use A LOT! I'm running out so I'm looking for new conditioner and I'm pretty sure [I'll use this!](http://www.amazon.com/Acure-Organics-Conditioner-Moroccan-Argan/dp/B005Z49N86/ref=sr_1_5? s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1396453832&sr=). I've used it before and it works amazingly.

Now my magical products to hold my curls are:

MIXED CHICKS CONDITIONER AND Diva curl Gel. Together work amaziiingly. I suggest putting more conditioner than gel. Squish, squish! Then dry with a diffuser. And Bam! Amazing curls.

Your left-photo hair is how my hair looks like on a daily basis; curly/wavy hair roughly the same length, and just as dry!

I'd love for my hair to look like the photo on the right! I didn't even know it was possible to get it to look like that.
So from what you posted, I should co-wash my hair twice a month and let it dry before going to sleep (I read that cold drying it helps in a pinch if you need to get your hair dry fast, what do you think about that?) How often do you wet/wash your hair with water when you're taking a shower?

I just ordered some 100% natural argan oil from Amazon; I'm hoping to get the results you get from using it. I currently use almond oil on my hair and it feels heavy and greasy whenever I use it, on top of not getting my hair to style correctly.

For argan oil use, you say to use a small bit at first, but then you say you use more argan oil than you do coconut oil, so it confuses me. I'm assuming I'm supposed to use little amounts of the argan oil and increase until I get the perfect amount of moisture in my hair?

I was actually diagnosed with having seborrheic dermatitis and was told it doesn't go away; that feel when dandruff for life :( I've been using a medicated head and shoulders shampoo to fight the dandruff, and it has really worked for me, but at the cost of extremely drying my hair and scalp. (link to shampoo https://www.amazon.com/Head-Shoulders-Clinical-Seborrheic-Dermatitis/dp/B0043OSIVM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478375434&sr=8-1&keywords=head+and+shoulders+medicated)

I buy this duo: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014I5HJXI

The scent is pleasant but a bit strong and it doesn't really make my hair squeaky clean like shampoos with SLS do, but if that's the tradeoff for no giant flakes coming off everytime I touch my scalp, totally worth it.

Interestingly I also get mouth sores when I use toothpaste with SLS, so maybe it's an allergy for me.

Edit: So you know before you try to copy my strategy.. comparing to other people I know with dandruff, I'm not sure that's what I had. Mine was less tiny white bits and more larger, slightly yellow (I'm sorry this is so grosssss) and didn't dislodge without some physical contact, and then looked kind of red and irritated on the skin underneath.

u/xcdo · 25 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Ryo Deep Cleansing! I have very fine and thin hair, so my hair gets oily quickly throughout the day and I have to shampoo nearly every night (I have tried shampooing less and just doing dry shampoo, but it doesn't work for me, sorry!) This stuff allows me to maybe skip daily hairwashing if I'm not outside/sweaty, and it's cut down on natural hair loss as well (noticed less drain clogging over time). It's really a great shampoo if you have oily and thin hair.

If you have slightly thicker hair, the red bottle is marketed as damaged/anti-hair loss but I found that it was just more conditioning/better hair health overall. I just prefer the tingly clean feeling from the green bottle, personally!

My mom has occasional itchy scalp, and she likes to use the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Anti-Residue-Non-Irritating-Clarifying-Build-Up/dp/B005IHT8KI?th=1

My best friend on the other hand, has been suffering for about 18+ years with seborrheic dermatitis (large flakes, itchy, red, forced to wash hair everyday in an effort to minimize flakes), and he recently found that the Body Shop's Ginger Shampoo helps immensely: https://www.thebodyshop.com/hair-care/shampoo/ginger-scalp-care-shampoo/p/p002450

He says it works better than any other anti-dandruff or similar product he's ever tried before. It's fairly cheap so it might be worth a shot!

u/percbish · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

My advice — once a month, massage castor oil onto your scalp and concentrate on the areas that are thin (it will strengthen your hair and encourage growth). I’d leave it in for about an hour. It’s thick stuff. do follow it up with a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue. On the other days, use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I’m a big fan of garnier fructis whole blends.

As far as the frizziness, I’d brush my hair into a high bun while it’s still slightly damp. Use Bobby pins to secure it in place so you won’t have indentations of a hair tie. When it’s dry, shake it out and you should have more volume. If you do happen to fall asleep on it, I would suggest getting silk pillow cases to prevent any more frizz.

I don't have long, thin hair, but I do have major issues with flat hair due to buildup caused by hard water. Applying Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo to my roots before bed (and sometimes again in the morning), and using Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray after styling have been my saving graces. The Oribe spray is pricey, but one can lasts FOREVER (8+ months for me), smells amazing, and works incredibly well!

u/Kalthia · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

I would not worry about fully showering and doing your hair at work if your hair is long. If you can shower (lucky you!) just do your body and keep your hair dry. Wash your hair at home.

I used to wash my hair every morning, but was pleasantly surprised when I started commuting that I didn't need to. If you want you could try something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Acure-Organics-Dry-Shampoo-Powder/dp/B0071HIE94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404657085&sr=8-1&keywords=powder+shampoo

u/Chedipe · 2 pointsr/femalehairadvice

Though I'm not sure about bleaching it cause it's fine. I have fine hair too and I've lost many a hair because of it. I would suggest doing highlights to add some dimension. red. Your natural hair color already looks perfect on you but red highlights would look fun. It wouldn't be that much hair either so you wouldn't end up losing as much hair. There are also ways of thickening it up though. If you don't end up dying it at all or if you do. Castor oil, neem oil, and many other things have helped people thicken their hair.

I've been WO for a while and love it. Once or twice a month I rub this shampoo bar on my scalp to clean it up. The company has a bit of variety in their bars. It can also be used on your body, but if you only use it for your scalp it will last you forever. Also, it's awesome for traveling by air since it's not a liquid.

u/xodesi · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

In the mornings I usually wet her hair with a squirt bottle and then spray it with a leave-in conditioner/detangler. I let that sit for a couple minutes and then I use a wide-toothed comb to detangle her hair. At that point her hair is ready to be styled, but again I always use a wide-toothed comb while styling to make sure the curls stay intact.

Also, I only wash her hair with a gentle sulfate-free shampoo once or twice a week because otherwise it gets dried out. I use conditioner every time she bathes though (usually Deva Curl).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that at night I usually put her hair in braids or up in a "pineapple" so that it's more manageable the next day. I also put a [satin pillowcase] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001683MCS/) on her pillow, which helps keep her hair from getting frizzy.

u/LocalInactivist · 4 pointsr/AMA

For gods sake, have it done professionally and spend the money to have it done at a good place. Bleaching black hair all the way to platinum blond can leave you with a head full of straw that forms itself into dreads every night. Also, ask your stylist questions about shampoo and conditioner and really listen. If your hair is thick you may consider using Mane and Tail Shampoo. It’s really good for thicker, coarser hair and it costs far less than salon brands. We all swore by it in the grunge years. Post before and after photos! I’d love to see the results!

I shower every other night to save time in the mornings, and wake up, use dry shampoo and a long bristle brush to volumize and de-oil the slept-on hair. With loose waves, I scrunch in some aloe gel. Moisturize the face, apply deodorant, apply face powder, mascara and fill in the brows. If you want a little more glamour, do a light blush, a neutral eye shadow, and a lip gloss/stick/tint. That's all!

Good shot. Are there any other oils you use?

Argan oil is the most exotic of those four, and thus most expensive. It's worth every penny though. I wouldn't bother with products that have trace amounts of it and then advertise it prominently on the label. Just buy pure Argan oil. The bottle I have comes with a dropper and I spread it on my face and beard. The conditioning effect it has on your skin and hair should be immediately obvious.

Rosemary oil -- I use this shampoo & conditioner from Trader Joe's:

Woman with curly hair here 👋🏽

Curly hair doesn't need to be washed daily unless for some reason her hair gets really oily. Once or twice a week is fine. Get a wide toothed comb, I use this one . They come in different colors like blue, pink, purple and orange so you can maybe take her with you and let her pick out the one she wants. That way she'll feel involved in the decision and hopefully be excited to do her hair. Detangle her hair while she's still in the tub or invest in a spray bottle that you'll mix water and conditioner in. Detangling sprays aren't gonna do much unless they're formulated specifically for curly hair. They contain less conflicting chemicals. The cheapest route is the spray bottle. Get her out and comb her hair from the ends and work your way up the shaft. Her hair doesn't need to be soaked but it should be damp so you'll use the spray bottle to wet any areas that are drying. Make sure the conditioner you use has lots of slip to make the knots slide out easier. After combing, apply a curl cream and a gel on top to hold her curls past day one. Most weeks I only have to style my hair once and don't style again until wash day. Her curls are loose and I've got 3c curls (think Tracy Ellis Ross) and this routine works for me every single time. If you're still having trouble, head over to r/CurlyHair and we'll help you out some more. I'll link my products below to kinda give you an idea of what you should be looking for.

Leave in conditioner
Curl cream -this one is just a cream that doesn't provide hold so you'll need to layer a gel on top.
Curl Defining cream -this one is a cream but it's got a gel consistency and does provide hold so you can use it alone.
Detangling Spray

Sorry for all the links but I know curly hair is a bunch of trial and error and our products can get very expensive so I wanted to give you an idea of what you should be looking for. Mixed Chicks has a kids line if you're looking for more sensitive products.

So I just figured this out a couple of days ago when I took those last two pictures.

I wash my hair with regular shampoo, then I apply this conditioner

I don't towel dry or anything, just shake out the excess water, then I apply this stuff as a [leave-on conditioner] (https://smile.amazon.com/Mystic-Divine-Nourishing-Leave-Conditioner/dp/B00IYLY67U/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1496382092&sr=1-2&keywords=mystic+divine)

Lastly, and this is the important step, I put it in a loose bun like this What I've come to suspect is that the reason we get the flatness are the roots is because we have the roots are drying too fast, or because the weight of your hair/ is flattening the roots. When you put it in a bun and sleep, it gives it a chance to semi-dry slowly while encouraging the curly to form at your roots. (But thats just huge bro-science that I have no evidence for)

I make sure its a a loose comfortable bun, and I wake up with slightly moist, but shapely hair.

Two suggestions,

First off, I used coal tar for a bit, but have recently switched to a "cleansing conditioner". It washes your hair without drying out your scalp, works about as well as coal tar and doesn't smell awful.

This is the stuff I use,
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F4TQ49I?keywords=cleansing%20conditioner&qid=1453066534&ref_=sr_1_7&s=hpc&sr=1-7

To answer your question though, when I used coal tar, I would just be sure to condition my hair afterward and that took a lot of the stink out of it.

Is this the product? If so, those ingredients look color safe to me.

I definitely wasnt massaging my scalp enough. And I was using this half the time and some generic store bought one the other half https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L1KFQKC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1502592066&sr=8-3&keywords=silk+conditioner

This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/Head-Shoulders-Clinical-Seborrheic-Dermatitis/dp/B0043OSIVM

I also use their conditioner, any of them will work fine. The shampoo is what's important

Try conditioner washing with a cleansing conditioner. It won't strip your oils like shampoo while still cleaning your hair I use this https://www.amazon.com/Herbal-Essences-Naked-Cleansing-Conditioner/dp/B00F4TQ49I/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1498631428&sr=8-1&keywords=herbal+essence+cowash

I have a pretty bad dandruff problem, and need some shampoo that would help. I like it when I don't have my personal snowstorm!

100% sure he uses that Mane N Tail on his beard.

Don't forget to do a reset wash before switching to co-washing if you've previously been using products with silicones — I ordered this one from Amazon. You only need to use it once, at the start, before you switch to CG-only products.

I purchase the Curl Keeper from Amazon. It's a bit spendy, but they sell small bottles so you can try it without committing!

Basically This.

Mane 'n Tail has done wonders for my super-fine hair.

My routine is fairly simple, daily shower using Shea Moisture Shampoo and then applying Shea Curl Enhancing Smoothie before letting it air dry

I have 21l GR1. J.R. Liggett for my hair, body and removing stains from my cloths and Eco-Dent Baking Soda Toothpowder for my teeth.
Will post my packing list in 12 hours when I get back from work shift.

Mane 'n Tail! (Warning, not CG!)

I'm not sure it matters that it's -this- conditioner, but for whatever reason punk kids where i lived in the '90s used it. If you put it in and don't rinse it out it sort of gives that wet clumpy look all day. But it might just do the same thing with any conditioner. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper is a very light product & leaves no residue. The consistency is only slightly thicker than water.

u/Hermyherman · 1 pointr/FancyFollicles

Recently tried this:

Denorex Dandruff Treatment System

Made my hair lose my oils (I felt that squeaky clean)

Renpure Solutions Cleansing Conditioner

J.R. Liggett Bar Shampoo, Herbal Formula

Suave Essentials Conditioner, Tropical Coconut

Mane 'n Tail Moisturizer - Texturizer

Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Retention Shampoo

When I first started co-washing, I used the last 3 products. At first everything felt/looked fine, but after a while, my hair felt 'ugh' and looked slightly frizzy. The other products I've bought and used afterwards and probably not as a long.

The old school poor high school wrestler's trick was to use some anti-dandruff shampoo with Selenium Sulfide in it as a body wash. Head & Shoulders makes a brand of it that's something $13-14 for a 2-pack on Amazon. I've had ringworm a few times in the past but never since I began using this method. Just begin by washing your hair then lather it up on the rest of your body.

I've not been officially diagnosed with psoriasis but I had really bad dandruff, and an oily and itchy scalp. I tried all kinds of stuff that didn't help. This stuff worked though. Haven't had any problems since.

u/barking-chicken · 2 pointsr/Sjogrens

30F here, diagnosed at the tail end of 27.

  1. I had this happen too, except I let mine get a little worse than I should have. In the end I had really flaky skin that was red and started to weep (I know, sorry, gross). In a last ditch effort to not have to try a prescription shampoo I tried Head and Shoulders Clinical Strength and it was like night and day! If you've got really brittle hair you may need to work with a dermatologist on this, though. This shampoo is REALLY caustic, but when I pair it with a decent leave in conditioner my hair looks better than it ever has.
  2. Try a cocoa butter based lotion. I like CocoaBeautiful at walmart. You're going to have to be seriously diligent about applying lotion. Its just one of the lesser known symptoms of Sjogrens. I apply after every shower (and before bed in the winter/dry season) and I keep lotion in my purse for my hands after every hand wash.
  3. Talk to your doctor about pilocarpine. My rheumatologist prescribed it to me for up to 4 times per day and I started with just once in the morning and eventually added one more at night. Its made a HUGE different for me. I had the mucus issue that you have, but I also developed a dry cough that I couldn't kick and the pilocarpine fixed both. I still keep the biotene spray in my purse for emergency issues, but I rarely need it now unless I have a really bad flare-up.

So, I don't want to be a dick about this, but you really do need to prepare yourself for the reality of your situation regarding doctor's visits. I see my rheumatologist 4 times per year, my optometrist twice per year (to check for retinal damage from the plaquenil), a neurologist once per year to watch for signs that my sjogren's caused neuropathy is worsening, and I get dental cleanings 3-4 times per year because low saliva production can cause increased plaque and gum decay. On top of that, I found that even with treatment it became very difficult for me to keep up with all of the things that I was doing before, especially at work, because of the fatigue. I don't know how I could have functioned without an army of doctors helping me with suggestions for my issues.

At the very least I have to strongly urge you to find a better rheumatologist to help you get to the point where you're maintaining your sjogrens symptoms bearably. You almost certainly need to be on medications (probably starting with plaquenil) and you need to have your vitamin levels checked as that many autoimmune patients don't process dietary vitamins (especially Vitamin D) as well. Sjogrens can cause brain fog and fatigue, but Sjogrens + low Vitamin D was way, way worse for me. If your doctor is not taking your concerns seriously its time to move on, no matter how many times it takes. I know it doesn't feel that simple, especially if you're living in a rural area where there aren't many options, but spending money on a doctor who isn't helping you is not just demoralizing, its pointless.
