I rescued a german shepherd mix when he was about 2 months old and he just turned 2 years! He's awesome!
Join /r/dogs for great community, support, and advice.
Here are some of my dog's favorites if you're lost on what to Wishlist on Amazon:
Furminator GSD mixes don't need regular brushing, but this one works great for shedding season
Dremel for nail trimming GSD = black nails, a bit trickier to trim. I use this with lots of treats to put a nice round edge and take off a bit of length of my dog's nails. works good but get him accustomed to it slowly and with lots of treats. Pretty soon he won't mind.
*Zukes are great treats for training
Wow I kind of didn't realize I have so much shit for my dog. But he's family so...anyway. Also costco has great beds for $20ish (comparably $80+ from a petstore) They also carry Frontline, lots of treats (buscuits, duck breast jerkey - the best!) good food (Iams ProActive goes on sale once in a while, and they also carry Natures Domain salmon/sweet potato food that's really good).
Yes you can. Take it from somebody that is "pretty much retired" young and works only because I want to occasionally.
Most of all remember, it's not always what you make. Many people make 50k a year and are broke all the time. It's about pride, what you spend, how much your "image" to others matters to you. Debt is horrible and evil. Remember this - make holidays special by spending time with others... It's not always about money.
I'm not rich, nor ever was. Not Bill Gates or some guy who struck big bucks. Just found a way to live a fairly quality life for very little money. Can I retire, yes, sort of.... Can I work very part time at any job period - YES. No debt, live CHEAP.
Now you have the time to serve Jesus with the rest of your life. :)
Haha I had this exact issue after growing up in Memphis and moving to Tuscaloosa for school! Man I love Alabama, just not the water. I used this filter with a lot of success. I did a bunch of research on shower head filters and while this was a while back and I can't tell you all the words and such that I was reading, I learned that there are a few different types of water filters that are used for showers that just don't work cause the filter doesn't have the same effect with warm water as with cool. This filter is supposed to be the ideal filter type for showers and had the best ratings at the time for doing a good job and not costing a ton of money. Made a huge difference in my hair and skin.
Memphis really did spoil us! Haha
Edit: awww just saw your user name. Fuck the barn! Roll tide ;)
Looking Good! Wow that's quite a stash of makeup goodness! I love trying new products but the stuff is so expensive!
[LED showerhead looks sooooo cool!] (http://www.amazon.com/Temperature-controlled-Color-Changing-showerhead/dp/B002PFJK9K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1OUQ8B0KGTG86&coliid=I27P2CTSRKBQVP)
Thanks for the great contest!
I ended up getting a shower head that came with a Bluetooth speaker in it. https://www.amazon.com/K-9245-CP-Showerhead-Wireless-Speaker-Polished/dp/B00A46X48A
I like it so far. Granted you do have to charge it but for me the charge lasts a week or even more. The phone is able to connect from about 15 feet away while its on the charger in my bedroom.
Pros and Cons:
Pro: Super simple install, looks pretty good (no random speaker hanging out), battery last a long time, is surprisingly loud.
Con: The shower head itself doesn't have any kind of spray adjustments, you do have to charge the speaker (as opposed to being powered or having unpowered speakers), and of course the price is a little steep.
Alright, so you have a few options.

I get vitamin C powder in the bulk section at my local organic grocery store. You could probably find vitamin C powder on Amazon but you wouldn't need more than 100g. I have read that it only takes 1g of vitamin C powder to treat 100 gallons of water.
>Ascorbic Acid
One gram of ascorbic acid will neutralize 1 milligram per liter of chlorine per 100 gallons of water. The reaction is very fast. The chemical reaction (Tikkanen and others 2001) of ascorbic acid with chlorine is shown below:
>C5H5O5CH2OH + HOCL → C5H3O5CH2OH + HCl + H2O
>Ascorbic acid + Hypochlorous acid → Dehydroascorbic acid + Hydrochloric acid + water
Here's the shower filter I got. I also bought a water filter/purifier from the same company, Berkey recently. I was using my parent's well water and transporting 5-10gallons a week to my new place in Maryland where I just recently moved to. My dad lives on a farm in Virginia and I like the water there but my gf didn't. She, for some reason, thought it tasted weird. I thought it was fine because it was full of naturally occurring minerals (including a little bit of naturally occurring fluoride) but no chlorine like her tap water. She was drinking charcoal Brita filtered tap (charcoal filters only remove 50% of impurities) before I started dating her and the Berkey filter beats well water by a lot. And regular tap water doesn't even compare to well water or the purified water from the Berkey filter.
This is where we got ours. It's not cheap but it's an investment in your health. We got the Royal Berkey and the two extra fluoride filters because they filter out arsenic as well.
There are probably other water purifiers out there but this is is the one we got. So shop around if you feel like you need to.
You can use this website to see how contaminated your local city's tap water is. As well as what it's treated/contaminated with. I saw that and was immediately up for buying my own filter as my city was severely contaminated.
Your other option is to get 5 or 10 gallon jugs and going to your local organic grocery store and paying 40-80¢/gallon for reverse osmosis or deionized water. Then you'd have to add concentrated liquid minerals back into the water. I used to do this but the convenience of having my own filter at home and not having to lug heavy gallons of water back and forth was a no-brainer for me.
Edit: I thought I would need a fluoride shower filter because I was under the impression that fluoride, when heated up, would be in the steam of your shower but it's too heavy to be steam at low enough temperatures to comfortably take a shower and not scorch yourself. And it doesn't get absorbed through the skin either. However, chlorine does turn into steam and breathing it in is worse for you than it being absorbed in your skin or consumed in your water. So when you take a bath you can eliminate harmful chlorine, chloramine, and chloramide (new chlorine derivatives that are even more toxic but cheaper to produce and are more effective at killing bacteria) by adding vitamin C powder. And when showering with the chlorine filter you no longer breathe the toxic shit in.

My (long distance) boyfriend got me that for my birthday last year and it has been excellent ever since!
Also, regardless of which model you choose, I would recommend buying a longer hose. Replacing the original hose of the Waterpik model with a standard interchangeable 8 foot hose lets me sit in the bathtub while using the showerhead. I have trouble getting off while standing so it's important for me that the hose reaches the bathtub floor, but it's just more comfortable and useful for doing actual washing things. :p
Been using the tub faucet since I was 9. Of course this led to underwater jets and hand held showerheads. Of the three, the tub is what I use the most and is #2 in terms of orgasm preference. Underwater jets I use the least but is #1 on orgasm preference. The showerhead is #3 on orgasm preference (but still preferred to a vibrator).
I'd say most German/northern European women use their showerhead this way and it's a way many girls learn how to masturbate.
This is the best showerhead I've used:
Hansgrohe 28514001 Raindance S 120 AIR 3-Jet Hand Shower, Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016H9YTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_eXiCDb2ZZ23NY

Definitely look into the local energy audit if it is offered. We learned a lot!
For saving water, I love the Evolve ladybug adapter for the showerhead. It shuts off the water when it's warm and you restart it when you're ready.
While you're at it add one of these
It goes in-line with your showerhead. The way it works is simple. You know how you turn the shower on and wait for it to get hot? Well, unless you're standing right there with your hand in the water you don't know when its ready.
This device will allow water to pass through the showerhead until it heats up, then drops the stream to a trickle. This means you're not wasting gallons of expensive heated water down the drain while you brush your teeth or whatever else you do while waiting for the shower to head up.
Pull the cord and the full power of now water comes out. It automatically resets by itself ready for the same tomorrow.
I love the Kohler Forte personally. Home Depot sells them for around $50 but you can get them on Amazon for $35-40ish. It seems expensive but it works great.
http://www.amazon.com/KOHLER-K-10282-CP-Single-Function-Showerhead-Polished/dp/B000MUZXAU
I have this shower head adapter and it works pretty well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P5LCJG5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Washing with soft water makes ALL the difference.
I use this dry shampoo because it doesn't have all the junk in it: https://dailydryshampoo.com/products/4-oz-dry-shampoo-deluxe-applicator
It seems pricey but it will last you for a long time and it's the best dry shampoo I have found to date. And I've tried a lot of them!

Here's one on Amazon: Waterpik SM 653 CG Original 6-Mode Massage Handheld Shower
I'm not endorsing that model, but it's inexpensive and has ~240 favorable reviews so it might be a good choice for experimenting.
Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the second URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link.
Alternatively, copy this link: https://www.amazon.com/THZY-13-Stage-Cartridge-Impurities-Unpleasant/dp/B079BZZ1FK
If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment. Thank you!

Only $17. I prefer to buy in person though, because it's easier to check the package to see what tools or whatever you might need.
If you're renting, you should be able to either swap it back to the original, swap it to another standard showerhead, or convince your landlord it's an upgrade.
If you're short, i suggest you bribe a tall and steady handed person to install it. It's pretty easy if you can reach, and most shower heads are shipped with the washers and Teflon tape you need to install.
Ha no I don't have one of the Kohler fancy systems. I came across them years ago when I worked at a place that made stone counter tops. I had to do a lot of research to get sink bowl templates to cut on our cnc machine so I'd frequent many websites such as Kohler's. I'm still dreaming. Cost wise I'm sure all the components run over 10k as the high end panel can cost $1500. I bought the one I have now which is just the head which screws on for about $35 I beleive (found it: DreamSpa® All Chrome Water Temperature Controlled Color Changing 5-Setting LED Handheld Shower-Head by Top Brand Manufacturer! Color of LED lights changes automatically according to water temperature https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JV43J40/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_9ayNwbFMNTCB7 ). I've had it for a year now and still works.

I'm in love with my Kohler Flipside: http://www.amazon.com/KOHLER-K-15996-CP-Flipside-Showerhead-Polished/dp/B003ULNSRI/
Not that I masturbate with it but just because I being able to choose between 4 awesome spray options. This is probably too big to masturbate with.
I got a replacement shower head like this some years back which adds some height. It makes a huge difference for me, I love it.
Thank you. Yes, it looks like it is this thing

A vitamin C declorinator filter or something.
You can ask your landlord to make the switch. Should be fine as long as you keep the original hardware intact. Heck, they might even provide you a plumber at no charge to do the work.
This is my favorite showerhead:
Hansgrohe 28514001 Raindance S 120 AIR 3-Jet Hand Shower, Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016H9YTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ToY2Ab0PVY9G6
Number one power user in your house would be the electric hot water tank. Can’t say I ever heard of those being used in Alberta. So it is probably your hot water use.
Some easier things:
Replace your shower heads, put in faucet aerators. https://www.efficiencyalberta.ca/residential-no-charge/products/
For showers you can also put in these things so you don’t waste hot water waiting for the shower to be warm: https://www.amazon.com/Showerheads-SS-1002CP-SB-Ladybug-Water-Saving-Shower-Head/dp/B0017YXIKC
You can set your hot water tank to only heat to a lower temperature perhaps?
And switch your laundry habits to using cold water only.
Encourage family to shower and not have baths.
Run your dishwasher full.
Also: have you been using a block heater at all? Those are energy hogs. If you need it, you could set it to only run for 3 or 4 hours before you need to drive early in the morning with a timer, and to only come on when it is extra cold with a thermostat.
Good luck!
Well shoot, a completely glowing bathroom might be pretty cool. That paired with this and these could make for a pretty wild bathroom!
You can buy a pelican water filter with vitamin c water filter attached. It's somewhat portable but it takes like 1 minute to attach.

They are two separate water filters, one is designated to filter the water from shìt and chlorine, the second, vitamin c is designed to filter the water from the remained chloramines, which are very hard to filter with charcoal filters. And they can be attached to each other.
While we're at it, should we share our recommended shower head? :)

Not really a decorative idea, but I would recommend getting a detachable shower head (I have this one ). Cheap, easy to install, and gosh it makes showers so much better!
Water Softener Shower Head - Hard... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L94O060?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share here is the amazon link! seriously look at the comments and stuff it’s pretty amazing
Yeah I actually dealt with something very similar. I too have long, healthy, thick hair that became very dry and gross after moving somewhere with hard water. I recommend buying a water filter for hard water, I bought one from amazon for $25 .
You can also use an Apple cider vinegar rinse to help clarify your hair. I recommend using shampoos and conditioners that do not have silicones or sulfates, as silicones prevent moisture from entering your hair cuticles and sulfates are drying. I have been using indie shampoo and conditioner bars for years that don’t strip your hair of their natural oils. And try to wash your hair only twice a week. My hair feels pretty much normal now mostly because of the filter and the acv, but avoiding certain hair products is also important.
Previous shower area was around 30 years old. Fake marble walls, small wall niche, leaks in the corners and ugly plumbing.
Over the course of 3 weeks (had to go housesit elsewhere - we only have one bathroom), we gutted the old furnishings down to the studs, built a new niche, added backerboard, waterproofing membrane, new tiles, new fixtures, and had the tub re-furbished (by a pro).
If anyone's curious, here's some products we used.

We learned as we went with this (also made many mistakes that thankfully aren't too bad on completion). Upon gutting the shower - found a bit of mold growing on the old green board backing material. Was actually better than expected. We also didn't want to swap out the old 2 knob faucet for something newer (required more plumbing work than we wanted) so we ordered a 3 knob version and just used two of the knobs/stems. Works great.
And a ton of knowledge from this incredibly useful YouTube channel.

If anyone has any specific questions, please ask.
A water saving showerhead costs about $15 and reduces the flow enough that most water heaters can provide unlimited hot water. Also they have a button that you can stop the water without screwing up your hot/cold knobs.
It's a great shower, nicely misted. I don't miss the wasted water.
EDIT: This is the show head I have and love As a note, you can push the button "half way" and reduce the water flow to under 1 gallon per minute.
Does anyone love their showerhead? I recently discovered mine has what looks to be black mold growing from the bottom of it where the water drips down after a shower and am thoroughly repulsed. I'd like to find a polished chrome head but one made with coated solid brass instead of the plastic 'chrome' that we currently have. I've found that most websites only allow you to search by finish instead of actual materials.
ETA: I keep coming back to this one and am tempted to go ahead and order it.
5gal. and pressurized with air.
I question the 'hot' water claim, my guess is warm at best. I keep one of these in the boot and leave it in the sun when I park. Toss it on the roof or bungee to a tree for an 'at least not shocking cold' camp shower and have $285. to spend on a few nylon fittings and a hose with a showerhead.
This shower head is pretty cool and here is a hand shower head.
I listen to Lindsey Stirling in the shower. I don't have a particular ritual, I just shower randomly lol
I'm guessing this, but would also like to know for sure.
I don't have shower problems but I can definitely smell the chlorine when I shower. My mom however does have sensitive skin and used to scratch like crazy because of the water. I bought this a few years ago and she doesn't complain anymore. If you can't get this one, find another with decent reviews. Also you might want to get a water filter for your sink too.

Speakman Anystream is my favorite. Depending on what state you’re in you can get up to 2.5 gpm. In CA to you can’t ship anything over 1.8gpm. The flow restrictions are easy to take out but in small showers it’s quite a bit of water. The 2.5 seems fine, 1.8 isn’t enough.

There is a less expensive smaller version as well but this looks nice with almost any type of hardware.
The 396 gph version isn't much more expensive. To keep from using too much ice, you could start by letting the pot rest on its own for a few minutes (try a hop stand!), then switch to cold tap water through the pump, then switch that out for ice water. The key is just maintaining a high differential between the wort and whatever you're cooling with.
Another option -- and this is a little off the wall -- is to use your shower. You could switch to a handheld shower, get a diverter, or get a showerhead with a splitter that would let you easily swap in your wort chiller. Handheld showers use a pretty standard 1/2" thread.

Arizona here too. You may want to invest in a chlorine filter for your shower head, something like this is good: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BWIWYGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_P9Qnzb05K3KR5 but double check how expensive replacement filters are. They highly chlorinate the water in the summer where I live and I was having similar problems a few years ago (same hair types and have lived in the same two places with the same weird curly to straight/wavy business). I also use Hairstory and my hair has been awesome since I switched to co washing (getting a water softener and whole house filtration made a huge difference too, even before I stopped using shampoo).

Buy three of these, two of these, and something like this. Completely changes the shower.

Edit: holy crap, there's a shower head called Moxie that plays tunes. OP - does it actually sound good over all the shower acoustics?
Sometimes there is still stuff in the water that bothers your skin. Shower water filters help get it out. We used this onea few years ago when we rented. It really made a difference with y hair and skin!
I used to have one like this.
Note the water jets concentrated in the middle.
I always found that showerheards where the central jets are a little further spaced don't give me the pressure I need to, uh.. Rinse the hair dye out of my hair when I'm done dying it.
Or, if you want to spend considerably more. http://www.amazon.com/K-9245-CP-Showerhead-Wireless-Speaker-Polished/dp/B00A46X48A
You should be able to change out the shower head. I've always done so for my rentals (and purchases).
Here's what I just bought today for my house: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NXT3TE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Make sure you have teflon tape to seal the connections: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-2842G-Teflon-Tape/dp/B000BWCFT6/ref=pd_sim_hi_1
And if your new shower head is still anemic, check to see if you can remove the flow restrictor. (The cheaper ones usually don't, and are the simplest way to obtain higher water pressure if that's all you're looking for.)

Best low flow shower head: Delta Water Amplify 1.5g it feels like it is on the edge of a pressure washer
Does it take a long time to get hot water to your shower then you waste it? I bought one of these valves, when the water gets hot it almost stops the flow till you pull the rope. So you know when the shower water is hot. It's not good for kids cause the water may be too hot. So just be an adult about it, we tend to know where to turn the shower lever too.

any normal shower head can be unscrewed and one of these added for under $20. no excuses.
I use a ladybug valve on my shower head.
Edit: I should really point out that it confuses the hell out my guests if anyone stays over. "The water just turned itself off... so I used the sink."
You don't wanna do that. If you twist that pipe, which threads into another pipe, you're going to either tighten or loosen that connection. Over-tightening can break it completely. Loosening can cause a leak.
Any leak behind a wall is a really, really bad thing. Even if it's one drip every couple of hours, it can potentially cause $1,000's of dollars of damage.
Best bet is to get a removable showerhead. You can shop around and find one cheaper, please don't go messing with plumbing.
Nothing new... i've been using the same shower head for 8 years, its got a shutoff built in so you can turn down or stop the spray as needed, it puts out an incredible amount of pressure (even if your water pressure sucks) and is 100% Metal, not cheap plastic.
buy this, and you'll never be disappointed...
Darn, the amazon reviews say it requires a lot of pressure since it uses some of your water pressure to power the lights and that the sound it makes from the turbine is loud. Don't have enough shower pressure to use this. :(
