Pad - looks good, a personal favorite. I take along http://www.amazon.com/Therm-a-Rest-Z-Seat-Cushion-Coyote-Gray/dp/B00453UPQ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334417369&sr=8-1 to put under my hips and sit on at campsites

Platypus - I love these things, if you haven't ordered, the 3 liter adds a minimal amount of weight and can make it easier to position in your pack when they aren't quite as full.

Peanut lighter - looks really silly to me, but I love mini bic lighters.

Pill holder - what does this do that a ziplock bag doesn't?

Headlamp - perfect, those rock. Consider some sort of LED lantern for your campsite, my mom found some interesting cheap energizer flashlights at target that run on 2 AA and have multiple modes including colored beacons and they weigh about 3 ounces.

Down jacket - I would consider the same model with a hood or detachable hood. You can also get an appropriate sized stuff sack and turn this into a comfy pillow pretty easily.

Aquamira - do some taste testing, see what you like most. My mom ended up really liking the platypus gravity filters along with potableaqua.

Ragg Cap - why bother spending $12+ shipping for a boring beanie? Unless that's just a placeholder, hit up rei for a sweet end of season something for the same price

Paracord - perfect, no more, no less, although I might recommend neon green or orange, as that color will disappear at night

Ridiculous cheap knife - get a leatherman squirt or juice w/ scissors and pliers instead

One thing I would consider with that stove set up (and what helped me make a decision myself) is what you are going to be eating... if you're going to order a bunch of freezedried meals and eat those nearly exclusively, save yourself the trouble and get a jetboil. If you like to cook and will have more fresh ingredients, then maybe the pocket stove will be great. But then you won't have to lug around pans and more than a single spork, because the jetboil is so well self contained.

Clothes in general - feels like you have just a few too many items. I hear lots of stories of those convertible pants never being worth while, most people just unzip the legs and send them home. For long pants, consider some triathlon tights and athletic shorts exclusively.

Those toe socks will drive you insane. Invest in three pairs of smart wool socks - of varying thickness so you can rotate out and change the stress on your feet. They make footie and crew type...

That tent is pretty awesome. If you're hiking solo, you do have a chance to use some of the cooler, (lighter) more unusual shelter options like hammocks and tarps. I would at least give that some thought before spending $300 on a tent.

Phones - My mom has been hiking with an HTC Status. You don't need to find some rugged phone or buy one specifically for the trail. Keep it in a ziplock bag, or aloksak bag. They have a solar charger, but I don't think they've used it. Your problem is going to be days between cell phone towers/valleys. It has, however been invaluable. I wouldn't go without. A spare battery and wall charger would probably be better than bothering with solar.

Add a tube of Cortisone cream and a few benadryl to your first aid kit.

Add a wide brimmed hat with a bug net. Bugs protection in general...

Trail runners will probably see more use than your boots. You'll also want flipflops/crocs/slip ons for camp. For the earlier part of the trip, Some short gaiters may also be help with mud.

I like a plain old, regular compass, rather than something in a multitool.
http://www.amazon.com/Brunton-F-9020G-Classic-Compass/dp/B000093ILT/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334418487&sr=8-8

I assume you had a mug in your list before I came to the thread. If I could only take 5 items, a mug would be one of them... I have both lexan and enameled mugs and they weigh (surprisingly) similar.

(FWIW, that list would be mug, spoon, platypus, sleeping bag and a bic lighter)

Just some thoughts in general, after outfitting myself and the parents for various trips. I hope it is helpful.

I'm wearing compression shirts daily, I feel weird leaving the house without one - moobs and loose skin on the belly, both completely disappear wearing compression, and the (by now disappearing) moobs actually look like pecks.

I've tried different brands, so I can give you a short review on each of them. I'm 6'2" (189cm) and currently 94kg (207lbs), and wear them in L.

  • Tren: Sorry for the German link, those don't seem to be available in the US/UK... They're light compression (personal feeling, marketed at medium). They're ok price/quality, no visible seams, just a black shirt. They tend to "roll up" when moving a lot and during exercise, but they do the job. They get my 3rd place.

  • Under Armour: Those have medium compression (personal feeling), fit the body well, but have visible seams (grey on black) and a grey collar emblem on the back side which reads "Under Armour". They keep the body in shape and stay in place, 2nd place.

  • Ultrasport Ben: Those are by far my favourites, super tight fit (heavy compression), they stay exactly in place even with lots of movement (biking/running), and make the body look amazing. I wear them in white under any light color shirt or t-shirt. I love those!

To your other question: Yes, especially with the heavy compression you feel them - but to me it's a nice, tight feeling which I actually miss when not wearing them. They keep the moobs and the skin in place. Highly recommended!
u/IWatchTheBruins · 2 pointsr/hockeygoalies

Yes and I'm livid when I get to the rink and forget the sleeves. It sucks playing without them.

I've got embarrassingly skinny legs, so the bulk helps my knee pads stay in place - but really the extra padding is great for landing. I get much less bruising after (I know I need new knee pads).

I use something like this but not that brand. I ended up with something cheaper in funky colors because it reduced the cost even more... They have a silicon (or something) like strip on the top and bottom elastic that helps them stay in place on my skin. And not just height wise, it kept them rotated the way I want to favor the inside of my knees.

I tried volleyball knee pads. I wish they worked better because they have excellent padding, but didn't find any that had a similar elastic, so they kept shifting out of position, rotating and dropping, on my chicken legs. Though, I'm sure if you spent more you could find a quality pair.

Ordering this was one of the dumbest purchases I've made on Amazon. Since then the ratings had dropped significantly, but a year ago it looked like a good idea. POS was falling apart in a month.

I ended up getting the Belkin Slim Fit using Amazon Price Match at Best Buy. It's a snug fit on the phone, you definitely have to take the phone out of whatever case you're using, but I like it, and it still holds well.

u/sydney0168 · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

holy shit I'm so sorry that he did those things to you. he sounds like a super garbage human.

I'm gonna list some stuff out, feel free to take or leave any advice.

So. I'm a big fan of therapy as a way of dealing with trauma. but if that's not your thing you can try journaling about this incident or finding a support group. If you need help immediately then call the sexual assault hotline number at 1-800-656-4673. If you're more of an internet chat person than there's a chat option here. Some sexual assault survivors find self defense classes very therapeutic so they can prevent themselves and others from being assaulted while also getting some tension out.

I'm not sure what your living situation is like but if you have neighbors that you feel comfortable with then I would recommend making some connections there. That way there's someone who knows you and your patterns/schedule so they can keep an eye out for suspicious activity. My neighbor and I let each other know when we're leaving for the weekend. Another option would be to share your location with a family member or close friend and be honest about why.

If you want extra security for your home these are cheap and reliable ways to prevent doors from being forced open., and of course I'm a big fan of blinds/ curtains. Depending on the laws in your state, consider getting pepper spray, or a small weapon. As far as internet profiles go make sure all of them are set to private, where you can't view posts or anything related without being a follower. Avoid posting things about your new town for awhile, until you can be sure he's not trying to find you.

I'm so sorry that you might have to adopt some new habits just to avoid someone who did something so heinous. I hope that at least one thing helped you in this list, or that someone else can help you. Reach out if you need anything else!

I invested in a samsonite hard case.

It was pretty expensive but has great reviews and should last me a long time.

It's this one.

As you can see from this picture, there is plenty of room at the top to pack clothes as well. I put all my clothes in here and had room to spare.

I was not charged an over-sized bag fee by American but did make sure it was under 50lbs. before I left.

My friend who went with me got the Plano case, and if not for the TSA lock and belt he wrapped around it, his clubs would have been strewn across the tarmac. I don;t suggest getting that one.

Hope this helps.

u/special_ed_sex_ed · 2 pointsr/rawdenim

i've seen some nice fits with palladiums. they aren't leather, but might fit in with the tropical/jungle vibe, plus they aren't too pricey and get great reviews. +points for safari hat too.
i also really like these timberland earthkeepers
and the 6" chippewas look cool and are well made for sub-150 boots.

You may find that a deep purse like that one is more frustrating than helpful, as everything gets lost.

Seconding /u/Ploppers00. A backpack purse might be your best bet! They have some really really cute ones for cheap - $25, $24, $70.

A backpack purse + zippered pouches to keep things organized inside might be your best bet here. I really like these because they're waterproof and machine washable.

u/vxcosmicowl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This cute backpack might be up your alley. If you hate purses, a backpack is a great alternative. You can carry it like a purse, over one or both shoulders...it's versatile. Also, you can fit your iPad or a swimsuit or a change of clothes in there if you're going somewhere overnight.

I chose this one because it's simple, but the gold accent still gives it a little sophistication. It's structured and has classic lines. It's very inexpensive and has good reviews as well.

I love purses so this was fun

u/welcmhm · 2 pointsr/fountainpens

You're welcome. Here's a sample of what's available. Not sure if this stuff is heavier or lighter than Tungsten tape or other types, but you can look around and find whatever works best for you. It won't add a ton of weight, but an extra few grams here and there might make a pen feel better in your hand.

u/internet_observer · 4 pointsr/Aerials

Rosin is the equivalent of chalk for silks and rope. You can either get try rosin and apply it to your hands with a bit of rubbing alcohol to get it wet or you can get aerosolized rosin. Spray athletic adhesive also works very well.

It's great however I would reccomend over time as your grip strength improves, only use it when you need it that way you continue to build your grip strength.

This championship banner has always been hanging up in my room: NHL Detroit Red Wings Wool Dynasty Banner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036GLK36/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kNFpzbRTH1D82

I'd also recommend getting a goal light like this: NHL The Goal Light and Horn with 30 Team Labels https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009P9Y4JA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5QFpzbGD4MHDJ or something like that during games.

Fathead's are good poster replacements.

Jerseys are always a good idea.

And here's a redwings border for the top of the room:

Go get a blackjack strategy card, bring it to the table, and use it. The players with you will roll their eyes but it's perfectly fine to do and it will get you nearly the best house edge you can ask for (without counting cards).

I would love to have this to hang up one my wall

i hope you're having a wonderful day and thanks for the contest!

I have the SKLZ swing trainer in 48 inches. /u/niv85 hit the nail on the head when talking about helping smooth out swings and improve tempo.

One thing that I like to use it as is a great warm up tool if I'm pressed for time before starting a round or if the course doesn't have a range (believe it or not, this happens). If you can swing it at least a few times a week for 10 minutes it will help you stay loose and flexible.

Like most have said, situational awareness and avoidance tactics should be foremost. But if you do wish to carry some sort of force multiplier in case of trouble, there are legal options. I carry this flashlight, which is not only blindingly bright but also makes a fine kabuton (worth every penny, I might add). There are also self-defense products like this which are legal in most places. Even a roll of quarters can make a nice fistload. Thing is, you need to learn to use the tools/weapons you choose, carrying them is not enough. Training is essential, so consider looking into some practical martial arts or defense classes.

u/derpepper · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Same seller has some random separate listings like these optic whites in US 9. $25 shipped and free returns. Really great deal.

Innovative. I was planning to replace my stock but if I could do this to satiate my balanced-rifle-appetite until I could drop the money for a UBR or just use the money saved for more ammo, I'll take it. Thanks!

u/megangigilyn · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This is under $5 and super cute!!!

u/retinarow · 3 pointsr/PS4

You can grab a used copy on Amazon for about $30. '15 won't be for another 6 months or so, so I'd say it's definitely worth it, it's tons of fun.

u/papeipou · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

My mom raised me to always wear my bitch-face, from a very young age telling me all sorts of horrid things people might try and do. And the walk, I have the walk as well, I'm very able to carry myself in a confident 'not-to-be-fucked-with' sort of way.

I carry two small self-defense weapons. For my keys, I have a Black Cat. For my pocket I have the ComTech Stinger which I'm most comfortable carrying. While self-defense classes can obviously only help you here, the Comtech Stinger concentrates your punch into a 1/4" sq. in., multiplying your force by x40. It's small so if you can land just one solid hit they're not gonna know what hit them, just gonna know they don't want to fuck around with you anymore.

Decoy phone is a good idea, I never thought of that. Even just a cheap prepaid phone that can be used in an emergency but is otherwise not worth much.

There are also keychain add ons like this that don't even look like weapons (and this just became legal in Texas):
https://www.selfdefenseproducts.com/wild-kat-keychains/

And then I found this while browsing Amazon, which would be even better than keys:

This is one of the big reasons I picked up sewing; I’d find shorts or pants that fit my thighs and then I brought in the waist and shortened the length if I needed to.

A great video on how to take in the waist and not make it obvious.

I also mentioned it in another post, but the hairspray thing is good.... BUT I use adhesive spray at my job on a regular basis, and it’s waaaay better. It’s only $12 for this can, and I doubt you’ll run out of it very quickly.

u/_Longstride_ · 1 pointr/AppalachianTrail

I picked up a Therm-a-Rest Z Seat in Hot Springs, after being envious of the one my hiking partner had.

Basically, it's like a small version of Therm-a-Rest's foldable mattress. It serves as a great butt pad for when you have to sit on cold/dirty/wet/uneven surfaces. I also used it as an extra layer of padding on top of my mattress for my shoulders.

I take it with me on all of my day hikes now, and people are always impressed that it's even a thing that exists.

Also, I got a rechargeable headlamp so that I would never need to carry batteries. (I only ever charged it in town, but I could have recharged it on the trail, if necessary.)

u/killer833 · 1 pointr/bjj

I have the McDavid ones. So far so good, they're fairly comfortable but I cant comment on longevity as I've only been using them for a few weeks. I popped my knee cap and it's enough padding to for rolling. On sale right now at Amazon, grab em!

Search for a tailgate flagpole and base. You park your car tire on the base. Maybe cut a pool noodle to wrap around the bottom of the pole where it could slightly bump your ride. I use something like this.
