2. Eveau Paravalve High Performance Straw Lid for Hydro & Nalgene Bottles, Leak Proof, Insulated, BPA Free, Wide Mouth Flask Size
- HIGH FLOW/LOW EFFORT: The patented Paravalve dual ball valve offers high flow with minimal suction effort due to the wide water path and unrestricted air path. It’s so effortless that most people find they drink more water. The open air path makes it completely SILENT while drinking.
- LEAK PROOF: With the spout closed, the air and water path each have their own dedicated seal, making it completely leak-proof. UNBREAKABLE RUBBER HANDLE: Our new 2.0 design has an unbreakable rubber handle, which was a weak point in the previous design.
- SMART VENT: Move the spout from the closed position to halfway open to depressurize the bottle and prevent blowback up the straw. The smart vent makes it the only straw lid suitable for use with CARBONATED BEVERAGES - just pour your drink into a vaccum insulated bottle with your preferred amount of ice and screw on the Paravalve lid; as long as you keep the spout closed when not drinking, you'll KEEP THE FIZZ AND THE ICE!
- ICE LASTS LONGER: Our lid is INSULATED to help maintain the temperature of your beverage and minimizing condensation which can soak your belongings. A vacuum insulated bottle deserves an insulated lid. Safe for liquids up to 140 degrees F. (60 degrees Celsius).
- Includes 2 STRAWS and 1 STRAW CLEANING BRUSH. Straws are 260mm (10.24”),perfect for the very tall Nalgene Silo 48 oz bottle, and long enough for all Hydro Flask bottles. It must be cut to length for your bottle - simple instructions provided on the packaging. The solid spout is easy to clean - No rubberized spout to get chewed up or degrade. The spout is removeable for deep cleaning. Top rack dishwasher safe. The lid is made from BPA Free polypropylene, and the straws are BPA Free HDPE.

I recently ordered this lid and it's been working well for me, but it's only been a couple days. I noticed the flow is much better AND holding this is a lot easier than the current Hydro Flask lid. I had many accidents and dropped my flask many times with the other lid because of the weird position the loop hole was. This one is much easier to hold and does keep my drink colder longer. Apparently the Hydro Flask straw lid isn't insulated. They do have a redesign coming, but who knows when? For now, this new lid works and does the job well. If you're looking for a pour spout lid, Takeya lids are popular. I've recently gifted these to some and they seem to prefer this style lid over Hydro Flask's flex cap or straw lids. Hope this helps!
Note that Hydroflask bottles DO work with any wide-mouth cap such as Nalgene bottle caps, including my absolute favorite, the CapCap (it even has a fun name!). However, you do need O Rings like these to prevent leaking since it's about a 99% fit. I like these caps better because the opening is much bigger, especially if you like your KC a little thicker.
I personally love the sports top since I don't need to have a straw connected to it. But I had a klean kanteen bottle with the sports cap and just use that one. It's great and never leaks on me. Super easy for the gym too
hydro flask
Klean Kanteen (usually in black idk why it's only in green)

I really love my Fifty/Fifty 64oz, had it probably a year and a half now. It has one flaw. The lid sucks. The bit of plastic holding the lid to the bottle wore away after maybe 6 months, the rubber grip around the edge of the bottle stretched and flopped around around the same time so I disposed of it. Recently, the lid cracked, it still seals but I wouldn't try holding anything carbonated in here now. Replacements on Amazon are about 5 bucks for Americans. For us sucker canuckers, the best I can find a Hydro Flask branded one with a fancier rubber ring and no real difference for 5x the cost. The original cap that came with my bottle is labelled as Lifeline on the bottom, neither Hydro-Flask or Fifty/Fifty.
I'll probably blow the dough and buy a straw lid and handle lid from the official website that's how much I love this bottle. It's been dropped down embankments, out of trucks, from my bicycle and kicked around pretty good. It's got one lil dent, lots of scratches and keeps everything I put in it cold for a few days. If only it wasn't for that shitty, shitty lid.
I have this pack as well, plus the Maxpedition Bottle Holder and the Maxpedition Rollypoly attached on either side. It is an excellent pack for just about everything.
Way more space than you may expect. I've taken it all over the country (travel for work, I tend to pack light) and it has been very comfortable and durable.
The Rollypoly is great for dumping all your pocket contents into when going through security, or for miscellaneous trash until you can find a trash can.
I have to disagree with anyone who says you must bring a bag. You almost certainly do not need a bag unless you have extenuating circumstances, and I pretty much refuse to bring one because I don't like a) the bag line and b) managing it in crowds, worrying about it on rides, etc.
Wear pants with real pockets (I tend to wear men's shorts). One front pocket can fit my prescription sunglasses. The other can fit my mini-wallet in which I have my credit card or two, my ID, my AP, a health insurance card, etc.- ONLY THE BASICS, no full wallet- and a little fabric zipper pouch (sort of like these) where I keep small items- lotion, meds (ibuprofen, pepto, etc. in the little travel tubes you can get), bandaids, and so on. A couple ponchos fit easily into a back pocket, and my phone can go in the other (or whichever pocket you prefer to have it in...or a bra, as long as you put it screen-out to avoid getting sweat on it). I've also done cargo shorts if I feel like I need more capacity.
My husband often brings one of these (well, similar) for a water bottle, and he'll pack a foldable backpack that he can pull out just in case he wants one later in the day. One of us also usually has an Anker battery in one of our pockets, though last trip I grabbed a FuelRod since they're smaller and I go enough that it felt like it was worth it.
If I absolutely must wear a dress that has no pockets, I have a small clutch with a strap that I can just put around the strap of my dress and it generally still doesn't count as a "bag" for the bag lines, and is small and secure enough that I don't worry about my stuff on rides (because it's physically clipped to my dress).
The only thing I can't address is snacks, as I just grab them in-park if I'm eating them at all. I also don't use sunscreen (I know, I know), but you could likely fit a travel size in one of the little zippered pouches easily enough.
This has worked for...6 trips going, now.
Update: I just ordered a cap on amazon that looks just like the handle cap but also has a straw. This seems to be the the best of both worlds and was cheap on amazon!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PVR8NR4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Here’s a link to it. You like push a button and the cap flips open lol. I actually really like it so far and it has a carrying handle too :)
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07MC3QFTN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZC7qDb6BCV2C8
Eveau ParaValve The advertising is a little weird, but the product itself is really well engineered. It doesn't leak and you don't get any air in the straw.
Edit: I should mention that I'm not a spokesperson for them or anything like that. I just like the product.
Capcap! I love it so much. Works great and fits almost any bottle, so you don't have to rebuy bottles. https://www.amazon.com/humangear-HG0014-Capcap-Water-Bottle/dp/B00FM4DK56
I like the taste. I guess it is fine in moderation, but not what you need for sustained workouts like biking. 56g of sugar - drink that fast and you are going to have a blood sugar spike and then crash and that's an awful feeling when you are training. What you need is the water and the electrolytes. For sugars better to get something in a form that burns a bit slower, mixed in with something natural that is absorbed a bit faster. Dates are a good for that.
Put one of these in your water:
Nuun
Fizz
Elixir
I use the sugar free tablets in both the bladder as well as the water bottles. I find the recommended concentration of 1 tablet per 17oz is a little too strong, so I halve that. So figure 1 tablet/liter, or a half tab per bottle.
If using gatorade, I like about a 8oz gatorade/12oz water mix for a 20oz bottle. That cuts the water taste a bit and adds some flavor without tasting very syrupy.
I got the Sendestar straw lid that someone recommended here a week or so ago. So far it’s been great. I’ve noticed a tiny bit of condensation on top of the lid a couple of times but nothing bad. Suction is great and hasn’t leaked one bit.
Sendestar Straw Lid for 12-64oz Wide Mouth Sports Water Bottle with 2 Straws and 1 Brush (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PVR8NR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qW-wDbKPRWW8C)
Creator of /r/Whatsinthebag and still in dire need of a new EDC backpack.
I haven't made any final decisions on it, but I've got dozens of great options so far.
Othar than that....Oh....
...just to name a few things...ya know...off the top of my head.
Also good points. If you want the best of both worlds, here's a dual lid:
https://www.amazon.com/humangear-HG0014-Capcap-Water-Bottle/dp/B00FM4DK56/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1549036581&sr=1-3-fkmr0&keywords=nalgene+lid+dual
Nalgene qt size wide mouth is awesome. Add a Human Gear Cap and neoprene sleeve. I have several of them that I rotate through the freezer with about 1 inch of water in them. I pull one out in the morning fill it with water put it in the sleeve and I'm on my way for the day. The widemouth allows me to add ice if I choose but the small mouth makes it easier to drink from. Very durable.

Yes, they are many, I bought a few from REI and they fit my 32oz Hydro :)
REI Splash Guards
Amazon Splash Guards
J-clips kinda suck since they don't transfer weight to your belt.
I've used Comp-Tac C clips and they're pretty good. Minimally visible like the j clips, but they actually put the weight on your belt. Only $10.49 with free prime shipping for 2 black and 2 light brown clips.
If widemouth Nalgene bottles are your jam, you might also dig this.
As someone who likes widemouth bottles because they're easy to clean, and also possesses the superpower of dribbling all beverages down my front, this is a lifesaver. Or a shirt saver, at the very least.
Just an fyi for anyone reading and deciding on getting one. Humangear makes a small mouth cap for large mouth bottles. Great if you need to put things in like ice.

Looks like you can get Hydroflask replacement caps on Amazon but the reviews are iffy.

I'm sure they'd fit a FiftyFifty.

H2JO By: GSI outdoors this guy lives on my hydro flask full time. Also does great work with loose leaf tea when I want to switch it up.

Pair that with the camelbak twist lid which is actually spill/backpack proof. It does not leak and you can have hot coffee/tea all morning.
https://www.amazon.com/CamelBak-Chute-Hot-Accessory-Black/dp/B0793CNVDP/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=camelbak+screw+cap&qid=1573356701&sprefix=camelbak+screw+&sr=8-6
I just dump in my grounds or tea into the hydro flask or nalgene add hot water and screw them both back on and I am good to go. Bonus is you have cold brew later in the day if you dont drink it all in the AM.
How do you like the Yeti with the hotshot cap?
I have a 12oz CamelBak Chute with its hot cap, and the only thing that keeps this from being perfect is the steeper sipping angle of the hot cap.
Humangear caps are pretty good replacement.
Glass doesn't stain with tomatoes/tomato sauce.
Mason lids are ubiquitous and are easy to replace when lost or worn out.
My mason jar lids will never come off on accident.
8/16/32 oz sizes are available for various compartmentalization
If you wanted to get crazy you could probably come up with can-able recipes that you could keep on the shelf for months.
Because while you might not be certain your tupperware isn't leaking carcinogens into your food, I'm certain my glass isnt.
Because mason jars fit perfectly stable into my padded MOLLE pouch on the exterior of my bag, making accidents isolated from my valuables, and not necessitating another thing to carry.
My mother has mason jars from 50 years ago that she still uses to can, so in terms of sustainability glass is hard to beat. All the components are obtainable and recyclable. Plastics on the other hand are oil-byproducts and can be quality-degraded when recycled.
You can get them for "free" with various brands of food-items (spaghetti, jams, etc)
Calling people hipsters on reddit is hipception.
i use use a wide mouth nalgene bottle with the on the fly lid. its for one handed use while driving at work. the bottles are virtually indestructible and the lid seals well too with the extra safety latch.

can't go wrong with CompTac, i use their C-clips and never have had any issues.

Just need to make sure to use them with a good belt.
I'm certainly not an expert on this stuff, but I have Maxpedition Bottle Holder, GSI Nested Cup, and Fish Mouth Spreader. I picked up the fish mouth spreader as an experiment when boiling to see if it helps any or saves wear on the o-ring in the lid.
You might try looking into something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Guyot-Designs-340015-SplashGuard-Universal-Black/dp/B000TYHH80/. (Disclaimer: That's literally the first thing that came up when I did a very, very quick and dirty Amazon search. You might want to do a little more research before buying anything.) If the water bottle you have is the type I'm thinking of, these fit into the mouth of the bottle and essentially reduce the opening to the size of a regular disposable water bottle. Helpful for not spilling on yourself.
water bottle is a 2L Hydro Flask. i love this thing, it'll keep water ice cold after being in the sun all day: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005G5YS0C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and the case i use is (i removed the shoulder strap): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019COFX3S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I keep my 64 ouncer in one of these. Works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019COFX3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You should get a mod for the water bottle so you don't waste time trying to get to your water! Hydro Flask Standard Mouth BPA Free Insulated Water Bottle Sport Cap, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T6PTQ6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KcS5ybZW2CDT7
I just bought a PocketToolX and a set of leatherman bits; and love it.
You can also get a wide mouth and buy a replacement lid like this to get the best of both worlds.
Just posted a few options I've tried here - https://www.reddit.com/r/djimavic/comments/5di9r3/super_compact_mavic_cases_im_trying_out_a_few
Got one of these on the way too. I'm thinking if I can keep the controller and one spare battery in the attached accessory pocket it will be perfect.
If you bring a water bottle to the airport, get a clip for it so you can attach it to your bag or the seat back pocket on the plane for easy access.
I use one of those metal S’well bottles and I bought a $6 silicone clip off amazon that comes with a carabiner clip. I can switch it from water bottle to water bottle, holds tight. Never travel without this little clip. Water Bottle Clip
Check Amazon and get you a capcap It makes drinking out of the Nalgene a lot easier.
I would like to second this, and also recommend buying some sort of sipper top, as nalgenes can be tricky to drink from while walking or doing anything other than standing due to their big mouth.
Are capcaps better than the Nalgene brand narrow mouth cap?

This guy is pretty cool
This splashguard I've never ordered anything over $25 and I cannot drink my nalgene anymore without getting it all over me becaus eof the air bubble >_> junkyard dogs thanks for the contest!
If you want to make life a little easier get a wide mouth 1L nalgene and a CapCap.

If you want a pocket prybar, I'd usually recommend just getting a pocket prybar.
I have one of these, by leatherman.
So I found a standard mouth straw lid, which is The Coldest Water Standard Size Mouth Hydro Sports Straw Cap Flip Top Lid - Multi-Compatible with Standard Flask Mouth Size Stainless Steel Water Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017O9DLQY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TB7pDb8SMJNVZ but I couldn’t find a flip lid, only one that’s similar to a chug lid which is bottlebottle Flip Top Lid Replacement Cap for Hydro Flask Standard Mouth Bottle with Carrying Loop Handle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MC3QFTN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hE7pDb0ZYV76D
I prefer my water room-temp so I go with a wide-mouth 1L Nalgene with a humangear capCAP (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002NNISS8). All the benefits of filling a wide mouth combined with the convenience of drinking from a narrow.
i like the spalshguard insert
As said cooling towels, keep hydrated. For hot days I picked up this nalgene container and insulation cover. I like this cause Night before I'll fill it half way with water and stick in freezer. Ensures I have ice cold water then I carry an igloo cooler of ice water to fill it up as needed.
As for LLV I open "passenger side" window and two vents in the back to try get some airflow but other than that not much

I have 2 nalgenes with these screw on caps. The cap is essential to me and I prefer them strongly over the “sip cap” style.
You can also get caps that have smaller screw caps on the top. Such an upgrade from the normal ones if you hate the huge drinking hole like I do.
Here's the one that I purchased.
A. Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life...And Maybe the World https://www.amazon.com/dp/1455570249/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_vHE3AbY88JWM8
I have the book (actually its my wife's) haven't read it yet, but basically the main premise is to make your bed first thing after you get up for the same basic reason of having made one small accomplishment.
B. Re: water: if you know you aren't drinking enough water, you're probably chronically dehydrated. If you think you're drinking enough, you still probably aren't. Remember the general rule of thumb has long been 8, 8-oz. glasses each day, which is 64 oz or half a gallon.
I drink between 1-2 gallons each day and really cannot overstate the benefits it's had for me. The biggest thing for me is I used to have chronic neck & shoulder / upper back pain, which usually devolved into an almost crippling headache just about each day.
Turns out I wasn't getting enough water. 🙄
I like my water COLD, so I got myself a 64 oz. stainless double walled jug off amazon - a generic one - the HydroFlask brand are stupid over priced and they're really all the same. Keeps my water ice-cold until its ready for a refill from one of 5, 48 oz. nalgenes I keep in the fridge at all times.
That's how I count my water intake too, since I know the main jug is 64 oz.
I also found a really cool carrier for it: GoNovate 64 oz Pouch / Sleeve with Carrying Handle for Hydro Flask Bottles, w/ 2 Pockets and Adjustable Shoulder Strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019COFX3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_-ME3Ab437CY64
Needless to say, anytime I'm going to be out of the house for more than 30 min, I bring this puppy along.

I use a Nalgene bottle with a neoprene sleeve.
Its a splashguard and it’s extremely convenient with the widemouth nalgene.
Get the Comptac C-Clip instead. More levels of adjustment versus AlienGear's single hole.

yup.

You can use C-Clips instead of the normal clips. Amazon Page here I use these because the back clip would get caught on my office chair once or twice throughout the day and would unsnap it from my belt. These C-Clips take longer to put on and off, but they are hardly noticeable on jeans I assume the same would be said for khaki's.
If your Miata has the horizontal bar that goes behind the seats, I recommend these:
Rothco Molle Water Bottle Pouch,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GIVZJWY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Can fit a 1L bottle no problem and not super inconvenient to reach.
No clue where you are getting that price from, but you're getting ripped off.
32 bucks here

I use the Humangear Capcap. It works well enough for my purposes, but it is not leak proof. If you turn the bottle upside down with the Capcap on, water will eventually leak through.
I'm about to blow your fucking mind.
