I've had KP since I was a kid and am finally getting handle on it in my 30s. My current routine is glycolic lotion twice a day, creams on the affected areas 3-4 times a day, and then physical exfoliation and using zinc or sulfur soap a couple times a week to keep the bumps at bay. But since skincare is YMMV, here's the exhaustive list of almost two decades of treatment, in case some of these other things will work for you!
100% of the items can be purchased via Amazon in the US - it's pretty much the only way I shop.
Beginner Level
If your KP has just appeared, focus on physical+chemical exfoliation and moisturizing. Look for lotions with the following ingredients:
Paula's Choice and Derma Doctor's KP duty both work well because they combine a few of these, but you can also get Amlactin, Eucerin and Glytone which are more focused on a single ingredient. Nearly all of the Eucering, Gold Bond, Cetaphil, etc. creams that work have one of the above ingredients, so take a look at the back of the bottle or on CosDna to figure out what works best for you. Prescription creams include Carmol 40 and Ammonium Lactate in higher concentrations.
Physical exfoliation includes:
My dermatologist also recommended moisturizing CONSTANTLY, which really helped smoothe my arms. According to his instructions, "constantly" meant that I needed to be able to feel the lotion on my skin 24/7 for at least 3 weeks, which for me meant a new layer of cream every hour or two. Pretty much any moisturizing lotion or cream will do. I'm partial to [CeraVe Moisturizing Cream] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013GDK3SQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (creams are less watered down than lotions, and this one drys down wonderfully, leaveing my skin feeling buttery but not sticky). Lush dream cream and Aveeno are also faves.
Intermediate Level
If a bit of exfoliation and moisture aren't working, you might want to consider if there are other skin conditions making your KP worse. For example, it turned out for me I had some fungal skin issues that made my KP bumps more inflamed. Topical steroids can help, but use with care as they can cause skin thinning. Try adding something with the following ingredients in to see if any of the following work. Also talk with your derm about getting a mild prescription treatment that might include an antibacterial or steroid component.
As others have mentioned, sunlight also helps. Either give yourself 15 minutes of sun a day or look into UV treatments.
Finally, consider dietary factors – for me cutting out dairy, sugar, and gluten when I really want crystal clear skin makes a big difference. Adding healthy oils and fats to your diet can also improve skin quality.
Advanced Level
I not only have KP, but years of scarring and redness (Post Inflammatory Erythema, or PIE) from picking at the bumps when I was younger. Laser treatments have almost 100% gotten rid of this and made my arms the smoothest and clearest they've been in almost two decades. However, these are pricey (for me, ~$200 a treatment and it took 4) and a serious time commitment. But if nothing else works, consider it.
Other Tips
For around 10 years now! I haven't perfected anything, and ymmv as always, but here's what I've found and tried
So I've managed to limit the new bumps for now, but the PIH from KP is real. I'm casually experimenting with vitamin c and retinol (on different nights or with at least 30 minutes between application), but I think it's gonna take time. Niacinamide is also supposed to help so I sometimes sprinkle some of my Scinic Honey AIO. Let me know if you do find something that works for this because I hate it!
I don't really see a problem with your skin. But getting into skincare is always a good idea, to prevent wrinkles and to improve/maintain your current looks.
Basically, you start with a cleanser. A good ingredient to look out for is "alpha hydroxy acid" cuz it gently exfoliates your skin, evens out your skin tone, and fades scars. This one's pretty good. It's not a bad idea to have cotton wash cloths to wash the cleanser off your face... it helps to remove the cleanser and is another gentle exfoliator (you never want to be aggressive with your skin). Oil based cleansers are good too, especially in the winter months when skin tends to be more dry... they do not strip your skin of its oil.
Then you put on eye serum, and face serum. Serums are like a concentrated dose of nourishing ingredients that penetrate deeper into your skin.
Then you put on eye cream, and face cream. A good ingredient to look out for is "hyaluronic acid", cuz it attracts moisture from the environment, and plumps up your skin, which smooths out wrinkles.
Very good idea to get a face cream that has SPF in it, cuz UV rays age skin quickly. UV protected sunglass will protect the skin on your eyes.
Masks are always a great idea. This one is good cuz it fades scars, and gives a nice glow for a few days. Simple clay masks are great too.
Good brands are Clarins and Bliss. The more money you spend, you'll probably get a better product.
TL;DR: Regimen: cleanser > eye serum > face serum > eye cream > face cream
Face masks! My favorite at home mask is honey and crushed banana. Makes your skin feel super smooth plus you can eat the leftovers.
Once a week I deep exfoliate and then moisturize my entire body with one of these. They're cheap and they leave my skin baby dolphin smooth.

Nails and eyebrows can make a huge difference. Take some time for maintenance. I always feel put together after I have my nails and brows done.
Drink plenty of water
Cut down on alcohol!
Hit the gym hard! I feel amazing after a great workout.
Sunscreen!!!! Skincare is essential! your dermis is the largest "organ" you have! Moisturize more than just your face! Take care of your hands, neck, and chest!
Hot herbal teas really add something extra to my down time.
Make sure your cloths fit. I find really great pieces at thrift stores and have them tailored so they fit. My four dollar blazer is from the loft and fits like a glove.
Meal planning I'm less frazzled when I don't have to worry about what I'm going to eat on top of everything else. Plus it saves you money and makes it easier to eat healthy.
Take care of your feet and titties by investing in quality bras and shoes, your back will thank you later.
When it comes to makeup only highlight one main feature at a time. Going bold on eyes? Go more natural/neutral with your lips. And vice versa.
I have this same issue and I've improved it greatly over the last month! I was actually taking photos intending to make a post about it but this is perfect.
http://imgur.com/FYACo1o
I know the lighting in these photos is different, but the before photo on the left looked as bad or worse than it does in the photo. The after photo is in ultra bright natural light, and that was after two weeks of my new routine every day, an absolutely enormous improvement for me! I'm looking into additional options now, but so so happy with this start as it eliminated like 70% of my issue.
Routine - Every time I take a shower (basically every day)
Allow to dry, and voila! I hope this works for some folks here.
Have you heard of Sensory Processing Disorder? I have OCD and don't think that your aversion is related to that, but it's pretty unusual. I say that I don't think its OCD because the way you talk about soap is more physical than mental-and while I'll be the first to talk about nausea and feeling physically ill because of anxiety, you describe a very SPD like experience. I hate brushing my teeth because the taste of every toothpaste and physical sensation of brushing and movement triggers my gag reflex, but using warm water and being aware of how important it is helps me power through most of the time.
Is bar soap different than liquid soap? Have you ever tried powdered soap? How do you deal with dishwashing soap and laundry detergent? Does shampoo not trigger the same ill effects? Have you ever used a cream cleaner? Have you ever used orange Gojo hand cleaner? Do scented lotions or candles affect you in the same way that scented soap does?
I'd definitely recommend seeing a therapist who has experience with OCD and autism, because sensory stuff and compulsive behaviors (or lack of behavior) can be linked to that stuff. If you have any success, please post an update!
Edit: to add, have you ever used a nylon net? one of these things, it dramatically changes the texture of liquid or bar soap to something more like foamy shampoo, which might help.
Edit 2: Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap has a very different texture than most liquid soaps, might be worth giving it a go.
I don't know if you've tried already, but an italy towel may be exactly what you need. I've had keratosis pilaris for years on the backs of my arms and my legs.
What I found to be terrific for it was an italy towel. You can get them very cheap on amazon. The idea is to soak in a bath for a good 20-30 minutes (make sure that area of your body is submerged) and then scrub the area with the cloth in circular motions. It works most effectively without soap for me, and I've heard that from others as well. You can try either method. I just soak it in warm water. Often, the dead skin just rolls off and you feel soft as a baby afterward. It's very satisfying. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LGLOKLM/
I also suggest Amlactin. It is a body lotion with lactic acid and lots of people have had success with it when it comes to KP/textured skin. It exfoliates very well.
After riding 2,500 miles between my two boards, here are the accessories I bring with me on every ride:
GoPro Hero Session camera: On two occasions I have been assaulted by people in cars while commuting home. They threw an egg and some water at me. After the first incident, I purchased this camera and started riding with it facing behind me. When the second assault occurred, I was able to grab the license plate # from the video footage and got the culprits in trouble with the police.
Fingerless gloves: When you fall off your board, which you surely will if you ride any significant distance, the first part of your body to hit the pavement will probably be the palms of your hands as you catch yourself. Removing the skin from your hands feels terrible, even on small falls. Wearing these gloves provides an extra layer to rub off when you hit the pavement. Make sure you wear fingerless gloves though because full-fingered gloves make it extremely difficult to operate the remote control.
Flatland 3D bash guard and remote ring: These two accessories changed my boarding life completely. Definitely put a bash guard on the tail of your board to prevent the ground from chewing up the tail every time you bring your board vertical. Don't waste your time putting on a nose guard because they don't serve a purpose. The nose of my board never touches anything except my hands and having a guard there makes it more uncomfortable/difficult to handle the nose of the board. When it comes to the remote ring, I cannot recommend this accessory highly enough. Sure, putting a Nintendo Wii remote strap on your Boosted remote will keep it from dropping to the ground. On the other hand, the Flatland 3D remote ring keeps the remote snugly embedded in the palm of your hand even if you fully open your hand and spread all of your fingers. I've even completely fallen off my board and hit the ground without losing grip of my remote. The remote ring is a true game-changer.
A headlamp: A headlamp??? Yes, a headlamp. Why? Well, riding a skateboard at night is one of the most terrifying activities known to man. Any unexpected bumps, cracks, or rocks can send you flying. With a headlamp, you can wear it like a garter around your thigh. This gives the light a perfect vantage point to light up the pavement in front of you. I've used this light in particular to commute at night for a couple years and it works excellently. Light & Motion makes the best lights I've ever used. The build quality is unmatched and their customer service is top notch.
Clear biking glasses: Riding without something over my eyes is very difficult. Dust from the road and insects from the air frequently fly into my eyes unless I am wearing some form of protection. During the day, any pair of sunglasses work fine. However, at night a pair of shades is not a good idea. Instead, I purchased some biking glasses from Smith Optics. This model comes with several lenses: smoke, rose, and clear.
Small towels: If you ride your board any farther than a mile in a single ride, especially if you commute in a city, you will find the bottom of your board covered in dust, muck, and liquids at the end of your ride. Folding a small towel and sticking it in my back pocket has saved me from countless headaches. Instead of getting to my destination with a board dripping with garbage truck juice or covered in mud, I am able to quickly wipe down the bottom of my board so I don't get my hands and clothing dirty. In addition, if I spill anything else on myself while I'm out, I have a handy rag I can quickly utilize. These towels are so cheap that I don't feel bad throwing them away if I trash them.
LED waist belt: When riding at night, being visible is one of the keys to safety. While your garter headband works great to light the path in front of you, this LED waist band makes you much more visible to vehicles approaching you from behind.
A helmet: These protect your noggin. I haven't found a helmet I love yet, but this one does have the best chinstrap I've ever seen. It's magnetic, which means it's impossible to pinch the skin under your chin when putting on the helmet!
The good:
your eyes are very good, well done with the colour transition, the wings are the perfect thickness and lenght - you are lucky to have very open eyes. I also like the purple under.
Your eyebrows have a good shape
I think the foundation colour matches you well
The bad:
As pointed the others: your foundation. I think the problem starts with the fact that your skin has a lot of texture. I used to have exactly the same skin as you and what helped me was physical exfoliation, I use exactly those https://www.amazon.co.uk/Korean-Italy-Towel-Exfoliating-Washcloth/dp/B00LGLOKLM Korean Italian towels. They make my skin very smooth and get rid of the dead skin, therefore I break-out less.
Secondly, I also think you have a dry skin. At first glance your skin looks oily but I think it is because dry skin tends to overproduce oil (since it is starved of it), therefore making it super oily after few hours.
The foundation itself is a bit too thick, my trick with foundation is to avoid putting any above my lips (it never looks good unless photoshopped) and less on my nose, forehead and under my eyes / nos bridge. This way you can still put loads on your cheeks and around your chin without looking 'too much'.
I think it would have been really good if you used powder on a top of your foundation - it gives your skin a cleaner and more matte look, getting rid of shiness coming from oily foundation. I think aloso a tiny bit of blush / bronzer on your cheeks, nose and forehead would have been perfect!
Lastly, your eyebrows. They are a very good shape, you you have that. However I think you should try to make them more subtle. Try not to draw your eyebrows and fill it 100%, but accent them. Make them a bit more natural
Re: KP, quitting dairy (and going vegan) will probably have a bigger environmental impact than all zero waste habits combined ;) So that certainly won't hurt!
I personally use an Italy towel for exfoliation on my KP and found that using that plus a heavy moisturizer (like various oils, haven't found shea butter package-free but that's another option) has been the best. My italy towels did come in plastic packaging but they can be reused over and over again, probably forever. It's what korean spas use to exfoliate. I have a green one and pink one, and the pink ones are supposedly more gentle so I gently use it on my face and it works too.
I'm still phasing out my old skincare, but right now I'm doing: oil cleansing --> cleansing w soap --> exfoliating w towel --> using my old moisturizer (will try evening primrose or jojoba oil next) --> sunscreen.
Here are some other ZW ideas, from Paris to Go. More for fun, I think, though :)
This appears to be keratosis pilaris, and there are a lot of things you can do to improve the appearance of your skin.
Edit: There are increasingly more invasive treatments you can use if the first basic approach doesn't work-- for example: stronger chemical peels, retinols, ultrasonic skin scrubbling, and microneedling. These are usually only used for either deeper acne/burn scarring or the pursuit of absolute perfection in one's face. However, if you combine a basic skincare routine with any sort of fasting, your skin will probably drastically improve.
Remember to patch test
Oh my gosh, this sounds super stressful! I actually have horrible skin on my legs (scars easily) and am so bad about scratching bites. Let's see what we can do.
Lastly, try to just let it go on the day of and feel confident and beautiful. You're already super brave for doing the shoot and your FH is going to love it no matter what! If something really bothers you, ask your photographer what you can do. If your back is really bothering you, for example, could you stick with a men's button down shirt over a bra? Or not include poses of your back?
Just sending you some love here--it's allegedly such a common issue, but I've got it worse than anyone I've met IRL.
I've had really good luck with Korean exfoliating cloths and Retin-A applied immediately after. Caveat being...that's on my body, I don't have it on my face.
Best of luck, friend. Don't despair yet. Don't let putting on makeup make you feel less masculine. It's no different than putting on sunscreen or any other product.
Your'e gonna want some awesome new knives.
this to keep all your cords in place.
this so you don't have trouble plugging in all your stuff.
this can be used to keep track of all the tiny pieces (e.g. batteries, screws, etc.).
I personally use this everyday, it's the best.
these to keep you clean.
everyone needs one of these.
gotta put all the shoes somewhere.
something like this will come in handy.
It's the small details that count.
this could help when moving everything in.
And then get one of these bad boys for you!
okay I think I put enough for now, hope it helps.
Just posted my routine in another thread! Its also important to make sure you GENTLY exfoliate the dead, dry skin once in a while because products will not seep into your skin if you have a layer of dead flaky skin on top. When I say GENTLY, I mean GENTLY. As in, using very light pressure and circular motions.
I usually gently exfoliate with regular face soap, https://www.amazon.com/Face-Shop-Water-Bright-Cleansing/dp/B00FJ2LU2Q/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QBAXDKBWNEI1&keywords=faceshop+rice+water+cleansing+foam&qid=1558028782&s=gateway&sprefix=faceshop+%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-1 , using an exfoliating towel in the shower, https://www.amazon.com/Korean-Exfoliating-Washcloth-Green-TeChef/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=sr_1_25?crid=3OPLND1BSAC82&keywords=exfoliating%2Bcloth&qid=1558028820&s=gateway&sprefix=exfoliating%2B%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-25&th=1 . Put some soap on the towel and exfoliate gently.
For skin, this is what I have found to work best for me. Currently on month 7, 30mg.
Cleanser: https://www.amazon.com/Bioderma-Hydrabio-Cleansing-Dehydrated-Sensitive/dp/B01ES79K4M/ref=sr_1_4?crid=CT33LP9ZQB56&keywords=bioderma+micellar+water&qid=1558027613&s=gateway&sprefix=bioder%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-4
The micellar water works for removing make up, but does not remove waterproof mascara. Use this both morning and night. If I just exfoliated, I will skip this step and go straight to toner.
Toner: https://www.sephora.com/product/moisturizing-toner-P253623?icid2=products%20grid:p253623:product

I've tried other combinations and this seems to work the best for me.
For body lotion: https://www.amazon.com/Jergens-Ultra-Healing-Moisturizer-Ounces/dp/B0034F9K36/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=jergens&qid=1558027510&s=gateway&sr=8-4
I love exfoliating, and if that's your goal, just get these. Wash your body with soap as usual, maybe take time to wash your hair/shave/etc (it works way better after you've been soaking a while), rinse, then start scrubbing with this thing (without soap at all). The amount of gross dead skin that you'll scrub away is just great. Very good for ingrown hairs too.
If you're looking for just a spa-like luxurious scrub, I like this. I don't find it nearly as effective as the previous towels, which are the best exfoliators I've used in general (not counting chemical exfoliators).
My boy was too terrified to go outside for a year and half. I put down cheap bath mats. They have a rubber backing so nothing leaks through and they are easily washed. I also bought a ton of cheap bar towels. I'd use them to blot and then I'd soak the area with Natures Miracle and use more of the bar towels to blot up. For my 45 pound dog it's about 10 bar towels each time. There is no good way to get around doing a load of laundry a day unless you want everything disposable. Which gets expensive quickly. For your bed I'd get a rubber sheet to put under your sheets or a couple good mattress covers to rotate. I'm not sure one mattress cover is enough to stop it from soaking through. Put the bath mats on your bed cover and don't let your dog sleep between the seats if you can. Maybe get an x-pen or two so you can keep him contained to an area that's easy to clean.
You might want to wash them before using so they are more absorbable. I found it much easier to use a bunch of smaller towels than a few big ones. I washed everything used to clean up after him separately. Towels and mats would be their own loads. FYI, my boy hated the belly band so that option didn't really work, but it's worth a shot. You'll have to bathe him more to cut down on the stink factor.

I hope he's feeling better soon.
Prepwork: EXFOLIATE. In your morning shower (I recommend showering in the morning, if you're worried about all-day-smells), scrub your armpits, back, chest, feet, and anywhere else that may be a bit sweaty over the course of the day with an exfoliating pad and soap. This will remove dead skin cells, which are what stench-causing bacteria love to eat. Swab your underarms with a touch of rubbing alcohol before applying your deodorant to kill off any lingering bacteria. Moisturize to avoid causing further dead cells.
Wash behind and around your ears, groin, butt and feet thoroughly with soap.
Powder your unmentionables (groin and buttocks)with talc-free powder- generally I use Arm & hammer.
Make sure you're wearing clean underwear and socks and undershirts. I re-wear pants and some shirts several days at a time before washing, but some of my shirts get pit-stank after only 1 wear so those go right into the wash. If you have lingering or chronic pit-stank on your shirts, get some sports-specific detergent, scrub a bit with some water into the pits, and let them sit half an hour before washing. Don't let it sit too long or it can stain/bleach the fabric. You could do this with baking soda and water, too, with varying degrees of effectiveness.
Throughout the day: Baby wipes are a big part of my day if I'm going to be running around a lot- use them to wipe anything that could be gathering sweat, and places where fabric rubs agaisnt your body. Ladies may suffer some bra-sweat concerns and not realize it, so that's an important area to tend to. Use one after using the bathroom to be extra fresh. I prefer mine unscented because I don't care for the smell of msot baby wipes.
Re-applying deodorant at midday (or every 2-3 hours if you're super sweaty) can help, too. Using a nice, clean-smelling lotion that is good quality so the scent lingers but isn't overwhelming.
You can add essential oils to your wash to make your clothes smell good long after drying.
Congrats. I've had mine for few weeks now after upgrading from Nespresso. It has been quite the journey learning about espresso and pulling decent shots. I have to admit that my first week involved a lot frustration - I couldn't get the grind right leading to sour or bitter shots and a LOT of wasted coffee. I am over the initial learning cliff and able to get decent espresso out of it, but far from getting it right every time.
There are lot of tips on this SR and YouTube, so my advice to you would be to learn everything you can. This is a hobby not an appliance.
Lastly - another redditor posted a link to these washcloths. They match the machine which is really nice and are a perfect fit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRR1YNT/
Enjoy!
I've got a ridiculous, meticulous self tanning routine that involves a lot of this.
I use these Korean Italy Towels to exfoliate, making sure to focus on all of my problem areas (elbows, knees, ankles, knuckles, wrists, toes, right under my boobs, neck) that seem to hoard dead skin. I also shave beforehand.
Then I put a light layer of lotion (one that doesn't contain any oil) on the bottom of my feet, toes, ankles, knees, belly button, elbows, crease of arm pit, wrists, and any scratches I have.
THEN I use this blending balm and put a light layer on my knees, elbows, wrists, and ankles.
THEN I put on some latex gloves and use a nice tanning mitt like this one. Not all tanning mitts are created equal.
I start from the bottom half of my legs and work my way up with the actual tanning. Working from the bottom up ensures you aren't splotching your tan by bending over and hitting your chest to your legs. I use the mitt with whatever type of tan product I'm using -- spray, mousse, lotion, whatever. I spread in a circular motion, making sure there aren't any streaks or splotches. I make sure I bend my knees and wipe them while they're bent so that the product gets into my knee wrinkles.
Once I'm done applying, I take one latex glove off and wipe that hand. then I take the other off and wipe the other hand. Then I use the blending balm and put a little more on my toes, knees, elbows, wrists, and fingers and rub those areas in with one of the latex gloves so that my fingers don't get orange. Then I carefully wash my palms with a little bit of water and then put some lotion on my palms and carefully rub them together.
It's a PROCESS, but I never look weird and I've never splotched or looked orange. Also, for reference, I'm as white as white can be.
My favorite tanners so far are Fake Bake Flawless, St Tropez, Sun Laboratories dark lotion (smells the nicest), and this random self tanner mousse from Sally's Beauty Supply from the brand Tanwise.
I have used the gloves before too, but what I really like is using an Italian cloth. You can get them, ironically, at a lot of Asian supermarkets or online:
https://www.amazon.com/Korean-Exfoliating-Washcloth-Green-TeChef/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469074797&sr=8-8&keywords=exfoliating+cloth
They last a really long time and are good for scrubbing other places especially in the winter when skin tends to get dry.
I have also mixed sugar, oil (I used coconut), and a teaspoon of lemon juice to exfoliate before I shave and then exfoliate a second time and shave again. It really makes your legs (and armpits if you can stand it) smooth!
Another bonus is you can go longer between shaves.
I don't know if it could be helpful, but I have mild acne in the back and for a few weeks O have been using a Korean Italy towel (physical exfoliation) and it has improve tons.
You can buy it [here] (https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=sr_1_1?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1468470674&sr=1-1&keywords=italy+towel)
You can see how to use it [here] (http://getwellified.com/exfoliation-softer-smoother-skin/)
Good luck
I was a road biker for 17 years, so I'm using my bibs. The quality of the chamois is the main thing.
If you're going to take rides over an hour, you can get chamois cream at a bike store to prevent rashes.
If you don't want to get your headphones all sweaty, an external bluetooth speaker is great. I got the Tribit- good sound at a good price.
I didn't want my black mat to get filled with white spots from the salt in my sweat, so I got a couple of black towels to put on the floor.
I've found these 12" square towels are great for wiping your head during the workout.
My go-to for preventing cramping: Hammer Endurolyte tablets- no added sugar and all the electrolytes you'll need.
If you're not used to regular road bike saddles, give yourself a couple of weeks to acclimatize your butt.
Once you're in the groove, consider doing Wilpers's FTP test. It's a great way to see gauge your fitness over time.
At my age, I only do 3 rides a week, but I see a lot of younger people riding almost every day. However, I would not do HIIT rides without a day of rest in between, no matter what your age.
Have fun!
I second the Italy towel maybe a Salux cloth which is a little softer. The usual directions are to soak in a hot bath or shower for about twenty minutes, then scrub yourself with the towel/cloth. Moisturizing afterwards will make you feel extra nice. :)
Sorry you went through such a rough time and I'm glad you're feeling a little better now. Depression is the worst. I know what it's like to feel like everything, including showering, is more effort than you can expend. I hope things just get better for you from here.
For a "scrub," I have eschewed various "scrubby" products, and use a Korean scrub glove. You can get a package of 4 at Amazon for like, $6.00 USD. here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C8DR1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (not affiliated). Bought a set for my sister, too, who constantly complains about rough knees/elbows. Anyway, these are cheap and they are simply wonderful. I've been a dry-brusher for decades, and I've replaced that with these. Easier to use, you can sort of choose how "scrubby" you want to go, and my skin feels like the proverbial baby's bottom. HIGHLY recommend.
Also becuase I’m from the UK I’ll send you back the same products on the UK amazon just to check,

Tony Moly also sells a version of this.
Be sure to soak your feet before using. Like, until they are wrinkly. It'll help your skin to actually soak up the solution.
Also, the basis of this is really just exfoliating. You can get similar results without having to do the full peel by simply manually exfoliating your feet. It sounds gross, but I find it works without having to go through the whole process of molting feet for a week.
While in the bath - once your feet are nice and soaked and the skin is softened, you can usually just use a pumice stone, an abrasive cloth (like Italy clothes from South Korea or exfoliating mitts that are made of fine viscose (I prefer these for full body rub downs as well as feet - easier to use), or just your finger nails. You can feel the dead skin coming off - finger nails are especially useful around the toes.
Japanese bath salts?
Something like this, they come in individual packets so would be easy to split up:
https://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Hot-Spring-Bath-Powders/dp/B000FQMMXW/ref=pd_sim_194_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9S16ZEQ2ZK5SGP4GERBC
I have a box of those and the Tabino Yado ones at home, I like both brands. I just clicked the first ones I saw come up with a Prime tag, the box I have says they're made in China and the Tabino Yado ones are Japanese, just in case that matters.
Maybe some of those viscose towels? I'm giving a few out to my sisters in their Christmas packages this year. I have these ones:
https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478534720&sr=8-1&keywords=korean+exfoliating+towel
I've recently started using a korean italy towel and it's been working great. They sell on amazon. In a good soaking or long shower it'll do a good job of taking off scales.
I got this 60pk on Amazon and I love them. They kind of remind me of hotel towels. But they are very absorbent, feel nice, and having 60 of them means way, way less washing and I dont feel bad about using a new one every single day.
Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the first URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link.
Alternatively, copy this link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C8DR1U
If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment. Thank you!
I trust your judgement regarding ATG on the neck, but I usually avoid that because it's my biggest problem area.
I think you'll eventually find that the pre-shave oil is more of a luxury item than a necessity. with a good soap and proper lather you should be getting sufficient slickness and cushion. I'm sure people will criticize your choice of proraso, but I think it's a fine choice. the fact that it's drying post-shave shouldn't matter too much because you said you shower after shaving anyway.
one thing you could try is getting a shower mitt or exfoliating glove to scrub your face before you shave. a lot of guys shower before shaving to really clean the face and soften the hairs and get them ready to be cut. ironically one of shave soap's goals is to re-stiffen the hairs so they are indeed cut instead of just pushed down. but I still think it's useful to properly wash the face to avoid infection, and get the hairs off the face. I have the same issue with buzzing my head: if I do it before showering I often get an uneven cut because, even if the hair is already super short, bed head prevents the hair cutting evenly. so really scrub your face in preparation.
you mentioned you were still experimenting with blades: how many have you tried so far? notice any differences yet?
I use these on my face (gently) and body. They have done wonders for me!!! I shave my face too. And these are just great for body exfoliation. in the reviews there are some good tips to follow if you get them.
Plus, they work wonders on getting tough stains off bathtub and sink. ;)

I used to have the same problem. I bought these scrubbing pads on amazon and they are AMAZING (also great for use on your face):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C8DR1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use them every time I shower with this body was that has salicylic acid in it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R2X5ONQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That has completely nipped it in the bud for me!
Korean exfoliating cloths. At the end of a shower gently exfoliate you face with it, at first it will only make your skin feel smoother but over time it'll start to buff out scaring and whatnot.
Best part is they're only like $5 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495946988&sr=8-2&keywords=korean+exfoliating+cloth
[Here’s the link to it on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_r00-zb6KFEHK0)
Looks like it comes in a larger size too. I’m going to trust you, OP, so I just ordered a pack! :)
Hi! Looking for some help with exfoliation:
I've been using BHA for chemical exfoliation at night and AHA 2-3 times a week to help fade PIH.
What application method gives best results for chemical exfoliators? I'm inconsistent with application methods, from most to least often I either fall asleep with the BHA still on my face, sometimes BHA + immediately apply AHA + immediate moisturizer, sometimes I rinse off the BHA after 20 min and apply moisturizer.
Also, should I add physical exfoliation? I never feel like the dead skin comes off my face, and sometimes I can't stop myself from picking and scraping. I've been researching on /r/AsianBeauty and it looks like some suggestions for physical exfoliators are "Paris Cloths" and "Salux Cloths". Any thoughts?
I absolutely love these little wash cloths. You take a hot bath or shower then firmly wipe down your arms and legs in strokes. The dead skin and buildup comes right off, kinda gross but really satisfying in a weird way. It leaves your skin super smooth and soft days after.
Look for LinenMe on Amazon, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/LinenMe-Brittany-12-Inch-Cloths-Natural/dp/B009BTIW7O/
I have a larger towel from them and it's great.
Exfoliating Bath Washcloth
It's suppose to be great and with winter dry skin incoming, very useful.
I think new cups would rock because the kids cups have these little raised up spots in the bottom of the cup that make them a huge pain in the ass to clean, these don't have those. Or new washcloths because everyone wants a clean bum! LOL Thanks for the contest.
I use something like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R6DVWE?psc=1
Thicker/larger than a baby wipe. Ride in, go to the bathroom, take off shirt and wipe down everything, then put on work clothes and you're good to go. Refreshing, cleaning, cooling in one spot. Seems like they average ~$1/use, so it does add up, though.
I prefer mitts like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TAtDAbRNGRPRN
My sister likes the cloths like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007IAE5WY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PmEDAbSV90WQ3
Also, Italy towels! These aren't for your face, but damn do they make your body soft. My KP has been resolved using nothing more than weekly Italy towels and some Kikumasamune.
They're about $1, they last for maybe 4-6 weeks until they soften up too much to be effective. The pink is the gentlest, the green is medium, and the yellow is for scrubbing rust off your BBQ.

These ones! They had a lot of good reviews and pretty cheap so I thought I'd try them out. Note: this is the Canadian site but I'm sure they're even cheaper on the US one!
Sure! I use this cloth every day in the shower with body wash and follow up with this body lotion. When I want to be extra soft, I use this exfoliating scrub in the shower :)
I use these...feel so smooth and clean after! Lol

They are called Italy Towel. I found them with the other body care items. It looked like this when I purchased it about a year or so ago
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_t1_Bo.MBbREA8FPF
I have mild KP, but my bumps are completely gone since I started using these towels. They're also called Italy towels, Turkish towels, Hammam or Hamam towels, or Kese mitts. But these are the cheapest ones.
It's really gross seeing all the grey balls of dead skin come off you but oh so satisfying. They make my skin feel softer than a baby. They're also great for staving off ingrown hairs in the bikini area. They keep my elbows and knees from looking dark or ashy, help lotion sink in better...they're just awesome.
Just soak in the tub or stand under the shower for ten minutes or so, and use these before you soap up in a back and forth motion. I use them about twice a week.
Chemical and physical exfoliation!
My preferred method is Exfoliating Asian Wash Cloths in the shower and Stridex afterwards. Works like a charm.
My korean body scrub mitt.
It's essentially just a super powered loofah, but I put some body wash on it and scrub myself like I can purge my sins about once a week. Keeps my skin super soft. It's really helped for dry itchy skin in the winter time.
One can find these at your local Jjimjilbang, "oriental" mart, or on amazon.
oh man you asked for it. This is what I do if i have a day off and nowhere to be:
I like to put on a mud mask (I like the volcanic clay one from Innisfree, or the pore refining charcoal one from clinique) wait for that to dry, and then hop in the shower to rinse it off, and wash my hair. Then I fill up the tub and put in some nice bath salts or a lush bath bomb, apply a hair mask and a sheet mask. After extensive soaking, I scrub off with one of those korean towels (gets all the dead skin off your body. it's pretty gross but very worth it.)
After that, hop back in the shower, rinse off completely, shave, and then moisturize. Takes a long time but man do I always feel good afterwards.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C8DR1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it from Amazon! Pretty good price if you ask me, you get two packs and there's 4 in each, so there's 8 pieces. And yeah, I used to be able to see skin flakes/dust whenever I rub/scratch my legs (tmi sorry) but now I don't get that anymore.
Some hosts swear by this makeup towel (which helps with laundry cause cosmetics are a bitch to get out)
I like to serve breakfast for my guests and make mini-quiches for them. This mini-pie baker makes individual quiches in 7 minutes and my guests adore them.
I bought myself this corkboard for the guest space - so that they can affix pins and show where they're from.
Actually instead you should try these exfoliating Italy Towels that they use for Korean Scrubs, I just got them on amazon.ca https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U and I love them, I just use them in the shower before your body wash/soaps/ shaving, I usually use them once a week after after my hair step, so that my skin gets softer from the water. They are reusable too.
Sure thing: https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U
And for good measure: https://www.vogue.com/article/korean-exfoliating-wash-cloth-mitt-dermasuri/amp
Thank you so much for writing this! After I read u/hazelf42's post I bought the cloths you bought as well as the longer version with handles that seem to be for the back. They should arrive today and I can't wait!
What was your favorite "i'm worth it" purchase?
I just bought some body exfoliating towels (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C8DR1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to use in the shower. Not expensive, but I take more time because i'm worth it.
Ahhhhhhhh, that's probably the key then. I'm really impatient with applying fake tan haha. I just bought these because I read in another thread that they are supposedly better than the gloves :O I can't wait to be a smooth baby hahaha.
I've been exfoliating with a sugar scrub and/or viscose cloth, dropping on a little vitamin c serum, slathering on a bunch of coconut oil, and then putting my hands into regular plastic gloves and going to sleep.
I'm not sure if every step is necessary or even really contributes, but it's a nice bedtime ritual. My hands and cuticles have never been happier! Plus I can still use my phone and laptop in my gloves... so it doesn't interrupt my normal insomniac routine : D
These are the ones I got
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C8DR1U?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
Which were recommended by someone else in r/AB haha
You want to exfoliate first! Get an Italy Cloth, Scrub Gloves, or if you want to go non-AB, one of these. The next time you shower, scrub yourself down & any lotion you end up choosing will absorb much better.
Do you exfoliate regularly? Try using an exfoliating washcloth daily and a sugar scrub before shaving. I still got ingrown hairs with epilating but exfoliating made a notice difference.
I couldn't find the washcloth I have but this one has rave reviews: Korean Exfoliating Bath Washcloth [4 pcs] (Green) by TeChef Home https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LGLOKLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_U64oDbJ2S94AW
Also, if you ever considered saving up for laser hair removal, I highly recommend it.
I got mine too! Also I bought a long one for my back. Anyone know why it’s called at Italy towel if it’s Korean? Fun fact: I am half Italian and half Korean.
back thing
Favorite all over body exfoliating skin scrub cloth is about $0.75/piece and you can stick your bar of soap inside of it so you never lose the little baby pieces of soap.
Use a separate Korean scrubby cloth for your face with some Kiehls.

I had success with “Italy Towels” about once a week to scrub (a lot of) dead skin off after a soak in hot water. Also, using coconut oil after showering and especially after scrubbing did great for any raised bumps.
I'd really like to buy Korean Italy Towel but most likely have to do it online (All I have is the basic box stores). I'm worried about getting a counterfeit on Amazon.ca
Does anyone have a link to a legit Korean Italy Towel for Amazon Canada or another site so I don't buy a fake?? Thank you!!!
EDIT: Are these the Korean Italy Towels recommended?
Maybe try those exfoliating towels like the Salux ones or the Italy Towels ?
I’ve heard that the Italy Towels are more powerful and a little tougher than the Salux ones, but neither one should be used on the face.
I'm interested in the Baiden mitten too! Currently I use the nylon Korean exfoliating cloths. I would rate it a solid 7/10, but I'm looking for something even more heavy duty. Have you tried the cloths? How would you say they compare?
Something like this or this is what I use, some Asian markets have them in the soap section.
Let me change your life!!! Hop on Amazon and search “Italy cloth”. $4.38 for an 8 pack of these miraculous exfoliating washcloths!
I’ve had KP since I was a kid and I tried everything. Since I found out about these the skin on my arms, thighs, and butt is so much smoother and even.
Shower with warm water, and after a few minutes start gently scrubbing your entire body and watch as your dead skin rolls off. Rinse well and cry about how smooth your body feels and embrace your new life as a baby dolphin.
Edit: here’s the link! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4v1XDb21R9B2T
i’m currently dealing with this as well! i’ve received some advice through this subreddit that’s helped a bit that i’ll list below but def keeping an eye on this thread just in case there’s anything else that helps!
so what you’re dealing with is probably keratosis pilaris (same as i). at first i was going to buy first aid beauty’s ultra repair cream to smooth my skin, but then someone mentioned gold bond’s ultimate rough & bumpy skin cream and it’s been working wonders. FAB’s product is $32 vs gold bond’s $10 product and i have no complaints so far.
what i do is use a dry brush 2-3x a week before i shower to exfoliate my skin then in the shower i’ll also use a cloth with my body wash that helps with exfoliating even more. once out i apply the gold bond cream on my trouble areas and let dry.
hope this helps out!
in-shower exfoliating cloth suggestion: here
I use these. They're bigger and thicker than regular wipes and they're wetter which I find helps.

Sit in a hot water bath for at least 20-30 minutes and then scrub your skin. Rolls of skin will come off, don't stop scrubbing until these don't come up any more. Then moisturize your legs after you towel dry. If this isn't a solution, I recommend seeing a professional or ask some family/friends.
Yeah I'm not sure why they are called Italy towels because I've only seen them used in Asia. But here is what people are referring to
Korean Italy Towels are great for exfoliating and stupid cheap.

How do you exfoliate? That chemical exfoliating cream/soap can be expensive. Maybe before that you could try [Italy Towels](http://www.8.com/ pcs Asian Exfoliating Bath Washcloth - Red & Green https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YFLPCb0CPP8R1) which are cheap and were a total game changer for me.
I discovered them when lived in Korea, everyone uses these to exfoliate their body weekly. You can go to a spa/bath (jimjilbang) there, and pay someone to scrub you down with one of these. It's AMAZING how much dead skin you'll see come off. They have totally saved my legs and I no longer get little bumps or ingrown hairs. I just use the italy towel once at week at the end of my shower.
The issue(s) Backne- specifically on the shoulders - majority whiteheads, some nodular acne. Mostly the white heads are fairly big, and I only got nodular acne on my face once or twice in my life but have it all the time on my shoulders, rarely in the middle on my back or the "squishyier" areas
Skin type. Combination. But on my shoulder's usually fairly "normal"
Current routine; Wash shoulders only in the shower, sometimes AM sometimes PM, with a cleanser (neutrogena grapefruit) then exfoliate (st. ives apricot (yes I know about the lawsuit)). Once a week I will use a Korean exfoliating rag ( Amazon Link ) to get rid of dead skin.
How long you have been using your current routine: 6 months
Your location Queens NY, Close to Forest Hills
Is it a good idea to start showering twice a day? I usually wash my face only once a day and I manage it pretty well. I had problems with my arms and legs drying out when I tried shower twice a day for a few weeks in high school.
These are Italy towels. They're more like rough little mitts than actual towels. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UU-xzbQ6F60ZE
They're meant to be used on skin that's been soaked in a bath or long hot shower. They're very good at getting rid of dry skin, but they're pretty intense stance you're supposedly to really go at your skin with them. You can see your dead skin actually roll up and fall off. Totally disgusting but also very satisfying. They're washable and reusable so they last forever. I bought the pack of 8 in Feb and have only had to replace on so far.

Are these the towels you're taking about?
I don't have it but I've heard that these work wonders for KP-- soak for 15 minutes then a hearty scrub once a week.
Easy fix.
Link for you!
I am partial to these Korean exfoliating washcloths and use them all the time. This is a just a regular washcloth. I use these for my face when I run out of make up wipes.

Order some cheap white towels on Amazon and you won’t have to buy “one and done” paper towels for years!
Have you tried AmLactin directly after a shower? Also, try exfoliating in the shower with these.
I need this!

Last year I bought 60 white washcloths from Amazon. I use them once, hang them to dry, and then wash them in bleach when I'm running low. I don't think I can ever go back to loofahs.
Ah no sorry I should have included a link-- here!
Try a Korea Towel!
I’ve been using one for a few months and I can’t stop feeling how smooth my legs are. Obviously this is only intended for body and non sensitive skin such as your face. All you need to do is take a nice hot shower or bath, and after you’ve soaked for a little while, just scrub. Dead skin will just come off in little bits. I seriously recommend these to everyone, especially if you have chronic dry spots, mine were my elbows and shins, and everything is so much better now!
I just buy in bulk from wholesale hospitality stores. Save you the trouble of having to break up a set when a guest breaks a plate or stains a pillow case with crappy makeup.
These are also lifesavers.
Makeup Towels
For my KP routine, I am scrubbing myself with Exfoliating Bath Washcloth and applying Amlactin Ultra or Excipial 20% Urea after shower every morning and evening. The bumps have gone down significantly, but I am still struggling with the red discoloration all over the body.
Any suggestions/comments on what I might be doing wrong/right?
I use these Korean bath towels, since I find them really efficient for exfoliating. This would be after I have shampoo'd and rinsed my hair, and leave in my conditioner. By then, the steam should have loosened the dead skin off so that a few swipes remove my dead skin. Otherwise, I use standard Western body wash.

I get this during the summer. It's from sweat being trapped under the skin and irritating the area. I usually have to make a conscious effort to scrub off the dead skin cells with a scrubbing towel every shower. Something rough like this:
https://www.amazon.com/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U
Afterwards it's fine. I never had it checked out. Just sort of lived with it.

These things are amazing as far as exfoliating goes. I wouldn't recommend on your face (well I do very gently), but they use these at Korean spas, and Korean homes everywhere I'm sure. But after being in the shower for a bit, just exfoliate your whole body with this and all the dead skin will come off. There is no they cloth like it. The ones at the grocery store do not compare. I do it about once a week. And then use coconut oil right after the shower. I find non exfoliated skin just feels the worst.
hmm darn it; I know exactly what you mean by way of what you're thinking and I think that's what I want? lol
These are the two I'm struggling with: amazon basic washclothes in cotton or these brooklyn bamboo washclothes
I know this is such a stupid thing to stress over and I could just buy both and turn the losers into dusting cloths, but I'm tired of overbuying.
I get this too but I didn’t realize this was an EDS thing. Twice week I take a long hot shower and then rub myself down with an Italy cloth and it removes layers and layers of dead skin. Seriously its like a snake shedding its skin- so gross by so satisfying. Then I coat myself in coconut oil. When I’m consistent with it, the dead skin problem stays under control. I found out about Italy cloth at a Korean spa- you can buy them on amazon for cheap and they exfoliate better than anything else I’ve ever tried.
