In addition to the other great suggestions here I also like these things:

  1. This Travel Pill case it is large enough to hold 4 large pills per section, and has 4 sections per day.

  2. The Flip and Tumble Grocery bag . This bag holds a surprising amount, and because it fits on the shoulder, not carried in the hands, it makes it easier to carry.

  3. Table Mate tray table this is the cheaper version of what others suggested, and is a bit less sturdy, but if you are on a limited budget, it works great.

  4. OXO Good Grips Products I love the can opener, but any of their Good Grips products work great. They are specificly designed for people with arthritis.

  5. I feel the most important one of all, though, is a fuzzy comfort blanket . People underestimate how much better you can feel just from wrapping yourself in something soft and warm for a bit. Even if you still hurt, it can make you feel like you can cope with it better.

EDIT: I just thought of another thing. The whole homemade coupon book is cheesy, but the truth is that offering to help them with housework, do some laundry, or even just spend time with them is an awesome gift in most cases.

I tend to do a couple cotton blankets( you don’t have to). Eddie Bauer Herringbone Chrome Cotton Blanket, Full/Queen, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EHCQ88O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_eLk3CbBFS4T30 this is just an example. I prefer something with a grid design so I know I’m putting it on right. You don’t have to though. A cotton blanket with a throw on it might work better for you. Layering can be easier for summer. Utopia Bedding Woven Cotton Blanket Breathable, Cotton Throw Blanket and Quilt for Bed and Sofa, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J82V4II/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_9Sk3Cb6GQ8JKE is another option. You can of course get a fluffy comforter but there are other options. You can always put the comforter away in summer. You can also buy a bed sized throw. Also using 2 throws is an option (for bigger beds or get a say queen throw). For me layering works better. You get to choose how you layer. A friend does a cotton blanket and jersey knit throw over it in summer. You can always add a puffy comforter on top. A coverlet is also an option. Comfy Bedding Extra Lightweight and Oversized Thermal Pressing Leafage 3-Piece Coverlet Set (King/Cal King, Beige) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C569XL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_.2k3Cb18HFTW7 as an example. You can pick what you like and layer or don’t layer. I’m just pointing out you don’t have to sleep on the comforter in summer. You can put it up or order something for summer and see how you like it. You can add a comforter at winter. Not everyone uses comforter sets. Links are just examples, pick what you like and buy what you like wherever.

> I live in Michigan, in an area where -40 windchill isn't uncommon, and -20F is just average winter.

Are you in the UP? I'm in lower Michigan. I grew up in Northern lower Michigan. I'm now in West Michigan. I got pink insulation board and cut it to size for each of my windows and it works great. Just cut it so it fits snugly.

> In the case that it does, what are the most efficient blankets to use?

Wool. Or put a tough emergency blanket with a mylar layer under the wool layer. Sew them together if you can. Don't use the cheap thin myler blankets, they aren't worth anything. Get wool blankets at surplus stores online. Giant wool blanket $24.

> Wool is a good choice as well, but wool is also dry clean only.

Then make a cotton shell and clean the shell in your washer.

> Are some blankets about the same as others, but better to buy in bulk/cheaper?

I haven't seen thick blankets in Michigan stores in 10-15 years. Fluffy comforters? Yes. Thick blankets? No. Everyone seems to be selling super thin "fleece" blankets.

> Are sleeping bags (individual) a better choice?

Yes. Get ones designed for weather at 0F. I used them for camping outdoors in the winter with the Boy Scouts. Then if you are still cold (in a sleeping bag in your apartment) throw in a disposable heater for $1. They last 8 hours.

> That said - anyone have a good schematic for a DIY storage bed,

Just make sliding drawers, one big one or two smaller ones, that fit under the bed. I bought one just like this at the store.

Posting this as a comparison between the many different types of wool blankets that are out there in an effort to share what I’ve learned through collecting several blankets of varying types.

As many of us involved in bushcraft know, wool blankets are a multifunctional item that can be used in conjunction with, or independently as, a sleep system when out in the woods. They can also be worn while around a fire without fear of putting a hole in a $300 sleeping bag or quilt.

The blankets are as follows

-Blue and white: Hudson’s bay 6 point (Queen), eBay

-Brown and red: 1968 Swiss Army (Twin), KeepShooting.com

-Orange: French Army (Twin), KeepShooting.com

-Grey and White: Australian wool blanket (Queen), amazon link

-Green: US Army (Twin), Thrift Shop

You can see from the photos that the Hudson’s bay is both larger and substantially thicker than the other blankets. While the thickness is important, what you can’t see is density. The French and Swiss army blankets are actually very similar in thickness but the weave is incredibly tight on the French one. A bit looser on the Swiss. While this may seem like a downside, the less tight the weave the more the blanket seems able to trap warm air escaping your body. The Hudson’s bay is the warmest without a doubt. The Swiss army would be second and the French army third. The amazon blanket is a good mix, being a queen size it’s much easier to roll up in, but a bit lacking in the warmth department as compared to the others. It is also the softest of the bunch and appears to be more geared toward indoor use which is what we use it for. The US army blanket is very thin making it very easy to pack but it’s best when used by a fire or in conjunction with a sleeping bag. I recently used it with my swagman roll sleeping bag and slept with no tent or tarp simply on a sleeping pad in a field and was ok, bordering on chilly with temps that night having hit 45.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have if you’re looking for a wool blanket for your kit. I’m looking to purchase a Hudson Bay 4 point blanket next as I think it would be a good mix of packability and warmth. Though I’ll say that even at 5’10” 185lbs I find it very difficult to do a proper diagonal roll up into a twin sized blanket. Your mileage may vary depending on your size.

u/Cruxling · 2 pointsr/secretsanta

Oh definitely! And thanks for asking! That's super thoughtful of you. Generally speaking, anything thats related to their animal(fursona) of choice will be a good idea! Such as plushies, art/photos, accessories, etc.

Here's some quick examples based off of common furry/animal preferences (all should be under $20 I think):

Husky 1, Husky 2, German Shepard, Fox, General furry ear hat with different ear color options, Dragon mouse pad for the furry who is also a gamer maybe?, Snow leopard print blanket

If they have a favorite movie/show with animals in it, any merch or collectables from that might be a good idea as well! I hope that helps some, if none of those examples fit their fursona or animal of preference and you're stumped, feel free to ask more questions or PM me their character for more ideas if you need for your gifteee.

u/inspiredesires · 125 pointsr/sex

Although the liberator feels nice, it actually doesn't do a good job of soaking up the liquid. I just got a new squirt-friendly blanket from Amazon that I love, and it's worked very well so far.

( THROWS OF PASSION Waterproof... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WZGFJG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share )

I also have waterproof mattress protectors and have even soaked through those on good days, so being able to absorb volume is what matters to me.

I also take puppy pads with me to other partners' homes or to sex parties so that I don't leave big puddles everywhere, haha. Look for super absorbent ones.

Good luck!

Hi. I have a few things I'm trying to get rid of. If you're interested, I'd prefer to keep our communication to reddit. I haven't posted here before so forgive me if I'm slow. I haven't posted any of these items on CL or anywhere else (yet). Cash only please. I'm going to try to be straight up with you, so if you're interested in anything here, please be straight up with me. I'm open to negotiation, but I hope I am putting up reasonable prices. So don't lowball me like crazy.

We put our down comforter away in late spring and bring it out again in late fall. I don't think you need to spend a ton of money on it, you just want to make sure you get a high quality one. I got mine for $50 from Aldi (I know, right?!) 10 years ago and I don't think it's shown a bit of wear. I think Ikea has some really nicely priced options but I haven't looked in detail to see if they're high quality.

Down alternative is a totally different material, and to me doesn't compare. It doesn't have the breathability that makes down so unique--able to keep you warm on the coldest nights without overheating you or trapping moisture. It also doesn't have the weight that down does that makes you feel super snug. On the plus side it's more washable, which can make a difference especially if you have pets. We just go with this blanket (best blanket ever!!) in the summer and the down blanket in the winter.

One other thing is it's truly a pain to use a duvet, so over the years we've just switched to putting a light blanket over the down comforter and washing it as needed. It does nearly as good a job at protecting it, and is infinitely easier to care for.

u/diab0lus · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I have this heavy cotton Pinzon Egyptian Cotton Herringbone Blanket as a top blanket (I don't use wool). 5 years in and it's doing fine despite my dog nesting on my bed all time (she scrapes the covers into a pile and lays on them. She's tore through sheets and a dust mite cover, but not this. It's too thick.

And I have this Pureloft synthetic down comforter in between the top blanket and sheets. I absolutely love how well it's made and how warm it is, plus it's cruelty free. This one I've had for two years and it still looks great. Commercial washer only, but there is a laundry mat near my house.

I don't use flannel sheets, so I can't help there.

u/blahblahwordvomit · 4 pointsr/RBNLifeSkills

You want a heavy fleece blanket plus a regular comforter. If you can afford to get yourself a heated blanket you will be living in the lap of luxury.

This is kind of living situation dependant but, if you find that your windows are drafty blackout curtains are a decent insulator if you can't put up something more serious.

If you can't control the heat of your whole living space (someone else controls the thermometer and you're cold, or maybe your room is a cold spot) you can keep the heat in your bedroom by covering up your windows and the top part of the door with a blanket. I'd do this before getting a space heater.

Go buy a case of ramen and a bottle of your favorite eye watering hot sauce. Sometimes you just want to clear out the face pipes.

Make a little winter survival kit for your car. https://www.skilledsurvival.com/winter-emergency-vehicle-kit/ This list is super intense but it's not bad. I wouldn't be too worried about like... a propane heater, camp stove or a gas tank. My SO swears by traction mats, but if they won't fit in your car you can throw down some sand or kitty litter under stuck tires.

Oh, don't' forget to drink water and use chapstick

u/kolkolkokiri · 3 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Gorgeous tapestry.

In terms of cheap, plain throws I would consiter this JYSK throw in Mint although they also have a subtle printed one Otherwise IKEA has some textured thorws / blankets like this green knitted one this beige cable knit one For Winter, IKEA also has a blue bedspread that might work, or you could look into duvet covers.

Otherwise any Falsa blanket in a fairly soft colour scheme? Textured dimond pattern or Herribone

If you are willing to order online, Chapters (Canada) has a pretty damn matching pillow and is on their ALL THE CANANDA things so tons of nature items. Inculding this dark green throw and fake fur pillows

My gut feeling is to use cheaper, simpler blankets and throws in a knit or white / tan fur, or sherling and bring the astec-y element in with a thick and cosy but smaller rug. The image is very serene and I'd want to play that up with comfortable, cottage-y textures (but not red plaid lumberjack junk) this goes double cause bedroom.

Rug examples one two three four five

The most useful? That's quite a bit...

You see, I need a new blanket since the one I have is threadbare and about 15 years old now. I really need a USB card reader to help my laptop and desktop be friends. Then there's the [rock pick sheath]
(http://www.amazon.com/Estwing-Leather-Sheath-Rock-Hammer/dp/B00BNQR440/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2SL6EA96F5BI3&coliid=IRQWRN54XWBQG) so I don't ruin the hammer, the samples on a dig, the backpack I keep it in (the rock hammer is surprising sharp), or my person if the rock hammer punches into my back. Speaking of geological digs, a Brunton Transit is a necessity. Not only does it do the job of a regular compass, but it can be used to determine slope and dip. It's also over $500 fucking dollars, so forget I mentioned it.

I think the blanket would be the best. Also, my favorite color is dark green. 003c00 in hex.

Amazon!

I love it. I accidentally got a 10lb blanket, but I meant to get a 20lb. I still like it a lot but when it's time to replace I'm definitely getting the heavier one. I didn't really expect it to do anything but so far it's been wonderful!

u/bluewolf37 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife
  1. i sometimes use A good fan that downs out sound. I would link mine but it doesn’t seem like they make it anymore.
  2. A weighted blanket i got this one one. I do think i should have went for the 25 lb one though. It does make it so I’m not as anxious at night.
  3. if light is a problem i use this silk sleep masks. You get two so i have one in the car and one at home. I bought them when i was working overnights.
  4. I sadly don’t have earbud recommendation as i just use my echo as i don’t have to worry about waking anyone up. But i do listen to this playlist or sometimes i use this app if you don’t want to use the app for sleep sounds i believe Spotify also has them.
  5. i also bought super soft microfiber blankets that feel wonderful (although the brand i bought seem to have went out of business or something)
  6. i also bought 800 thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets. (It was special Jennifer Lopez brand that only popped up for a bit and only found in stores) They have so far lasted longer and are softer than any sheets i have bought on amazon. I always have two sets of sheets in case i need to change it for some reason. I actually now avoid amazon for buying sheets as there’s a lot of tricks the brands on there try. There’s a brand called Egyptian Cotton that doesn’t sell Egyptian cotton sheets. There’s another brand that is like 1000 tc making you think it’s 1000 thread count but it’s not. I also found my 800 tc sheets are softer than the last 1800 tc sheets that ripped after a year. Go to bed bath and Beyond or similar store to buy them.

Edit: have you looked into the wireless headband headphones? I haven’t tried them but they have a good rating and fakespot hasn’t found any deception.

Similarly, I bought this and love it. Pinzon is Amazon's own brand , so I think that helps with easier returns and quality concerns ( hopefully none) in the future. I've had it for about 2 years and it's great. I machined washed it on no spin and it was fine.

  • Brookelinen for sheets

  • Down pillows from Target are ridiculously comfortable. Just make sure to get the firmness you like.

  • And since we are spending money here... read the reviews on the Hudson Bay blanket and then convince yourself not to buy it.

  • I think small LED string lights can look very nice if done correctly. I went to Michaels and bought two birch logs, stuck them in a vase, put a few rocks in the bottom and then tightly wound string lights one of the branches. I have it on a sunset/sunrise dimmer that automatically turns it on when the sun sets. I like the lighting it adds while also not becoming too feminine.
u/Bejeweled_Bird · 1 pointr/BlackPeopleTwitter

If you need others to inspire you to help people you were never going to help people in the first place. Homelessness is not a new problem, it does not require social media exposure: People who take these photos and post these stories want their pat on the back and told they are a good person.

Edit: Also have some self awareness when doing this type of thing: The homeless do not want personal care items, they can get those from any shelter/church. Want to get them something? Warm underwear/socks in a ziplock bag (thermal or wool), a bottle of water (canteens might seem nice but they will often wind up lost/stolen/throw out when they become a burden) and a good blanket.

https://www.amazon.com/Olive-Green-Retardent-Blanket-Military/dp/B00D1AJVHY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492446716&sr=8-3&keywords=army+surplus+wool+blanket This style, wash and dry it first otherwise it will be itchy and most likely get thrown out.

All clothing items: Launder them first, when they first reach you they will be painful to wear, spend the time to clean them.

u/chrisp909 · 2 pointsr/gifs

Nice but the 'Throws of Passion' brand takes the top spot for quality naming for water proof sex blankets.

u/BarbarianNerd · 1 pointr/AskMen

I like variety

Those foamy type blankets are very comfortable and make a good light weight blanket. I think they're called vellux and they have a kind of velvet texture.

then a good wool blanket, army surplus ones are the best. And there's an abundance of stuff on amazon.

Avoid anything made by rothco and avoid anything called disaster relief/first aid/rescue blankets or similar. Rothco products are grotesquely inferior, but it's kinda hard to mess up a blanket. Maybe they do ok. Judge for yourself.

However, the 'disaster blankets' are just disposable recycled compressed fibers and they degrade quickly. Only meant to keep people warm/comfort them for briefly when they have nothing else. They're commonly found in police crusiers and ambulances.

these are probably the best legit ones, but they are available under other listings from a variety of vendors. And there's a ton of options out there, the french and polish ones are pretty rugged and good for camping. Mexican style wool blankets are rad, but it's not as cool as going to Mexico and getting it yourself.

swiss

good ole murican milsurp, made for cuddling not outdoor adventures it's a literal safety blanket. I miss these things. Bear in mind it might be rank with fire retardant and first, so wash it with some woollite and it'll get all snuggly.

u/ballbusta-b · 1 pointr/ThriftStoreHauls

The brand is Hudson Bay.
https://www.amazon.com/Hudson-Point-Blanket-Natural-Stripes/dp/B000T2VLH0

edit: and I guess they're worth more than I mentioned above :)
Cherish that blanket.

u/Dumpy_Creatures · 1 pointr/Bushcraft

I doubt you will be happy with that blanket. I personally detest the surplus blankets. They are hit or miss quality, most of them smell, and they are almost never 100% wool. We all love wool but fleece out performs wool pound for pound. It’s not naturally fire resistant but it wrings dry and cost next to nothing by comparison.

I have hit the trails with this blanket in king before. It was my go to for 40°F and warmer until I finally got a down blanket.

Ha, well, the first one I really liked was Italian army surplus that had been mothballed in a limited lot for years, perhaps decades. Pretty soft, pretty durable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CX8U1CE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The most recent one is very soft, not yet sure how durable, had it a year, no wear, no outside use (which was the biggest benefit I thought of my parents'): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D1AJVHY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have one more that is older than the Italian army, it's probably the roughest, it's endured outdoor usage and indoor. It's a little scratchy, but nothing like my parents' Vietnam stuff. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got it. EBay maybe, at least 5 years ago, possibly more like 10-15.

I had one other that got lost in a move. It was pretty durable, but again, fairly rough, and no idea where it came from.

True story. Also, it's incredibly hard to find 100% cotton (good quality cotton) no microfiber sheets. Egyptian cotton no longer means anything. I went with 400 count organic cotton sheets off amazon and a cotton blanket. Amazing. SO no longer overheated.

This plus two of these (one to sleep on and one to sleep under) is all you need.

Cots aren't worth the space needed and air mattresses aren't worth the time it takes to set them up, the noise with it, or the space.

The most expensive and most outrageous on all my lists would be this weighted blanket
Plus this [cover] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753L52YX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6AkUzbCQYXQJF)

The only other items in an even comparable price range is Rosetta Stone software and a 10pc set of copper ceramic cookware.
