What phone do you own? If you have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 or later, I'd strongly encourage you to check out the Gear VR. It's not in the same league as a Vive or Rift in terms of game complexity, but the graphic quality (with the exception of supported polygon count) and pixel ratio is nearly identical to the Rift. Some games on the Gear VR are actually nearly identical (and in some cases, free!) when compared to their Rift counterpart.

If you're interested in the Gear VR, there's no need to buy the 2017 version. It's almost identical (slightly smaller, slightly lighter, but supports all the same devices) to the 2016 version, and the 2016 version is only $45 on Amazon right now. Some games require the controller that comes with the 2017 version, but many do not and you can get the controller separately for only $28 on Amazon.

If you do get the Gear VR, I'd also recommend the Steelseries Stratus gamepad. At $46.99 it isn't cheap, but it's pretty much the best Android-compatible controller out there and also works with Windows, the HTC Vive, etc. I personally prefer the XBox One controller for PC, but I use the SteelSeries for Android. If you want a case for the Gear VR, I have this one ($16.99) and it's excellent. Very good build quality, has room for a controller and extra cables, and it's very inexpensive. One other accessory to consider if you use nice headphones is this right-angle headphone adapter. ($7.29 for 2.) This will allow you to use headphones with larger plug housings - some don't fit once the phone is within the Gear VR, and this solves that problem. Note that there are several colors and styles of this plug adapter, including both straight and right-angle versions. All should work with the Gear VR, so pick the style you like the best.

Some general notes on Gear VR use, from my experience:

  • There are $1.50 apps in the Google Play store that allow you to disable/enable the Oculus app from auto-starting when you put your phone into the Gear VR. This will allow you to play both Oculus apps/games and Google Cardboard games using the Gear VR! (Samsung doesn't support this which is why you have to buy an app.) Some apps require you to root your phone, but this one does not. This is what I currently use. Installation looks a little complex, but it was actually fairly straightforward.
  • Make sure that you flip the little lock switch to the lock position when you swap out the connector or your phone will never launch the Oculus app! A side note to this: I still need to test, but this might make the installation of that $1.50, 3rd-party Gear/Cardboard app I mentioned unnecessary. If so, it'll be a handy trick for easy switching between Oculus and Cardboard apps without buying an app. :-)
  • VR is processor, GPU, and battery intensive. As such, I recommend quitting from any unnecessary apps and restarting the phone prior to using VR, and making sure that the battery is charged as much as possible. Don't charge the phone while the gear is in use or the phone may overheat. (Not to the point of damaging the phone, but VR apps will stop working and warn you the phone is too hot to continue.) This is only applicable to phone-based VR and does not apply to the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
  • Phones will not fit in the Gear VR while they are in protective cases, so you'll need to remove them to use the Gear VR. Be cautious and do it over a table or cushion, as loading the phone into the headset is clumsy and it's easy to drop your phone while doing it. Not that I know anything about that. ahem ;-)

Don't have the DAS but can comment on the interface question. I got the AMVR one a while back and I do NOT recommend it. It is a bit better comfort wise than stock but not anything amazing and its only real pro is not having sweat get absorbed into the foam like the stock foam. The cons are significant:

Cuts down on the fov even using the thin pad

Possible you will get light leak like I did since it didn't touch my head near the temple area and the actual pads are too big for the interface.

The worst of all though is the velcro spots at the bottom of the interface (there are 5 in total instead of an entire strip around the interface like VR Cover's version has) for the pad stopped gripping the pad's fabric backing which made the ends of the pad be loose and sometimes creep up in front of the bottom of my lenses at times while playing (very distracting, especially in a game like Beat Saber) with the only way to solve this being me putting my own velcro on the back of the pad. This recently happened and I debated doing that and then said screw it and ordered the silicone cover to try given it was cheap so if it was junk, it wasn't a big deal.

My silicone cover arrived today and whoa, that thing is great! It almost fits perfectly on the AMVR interface (without the pad) and fits perfectly on the stock interface. I am using it right now with the AMVR interface as that interface is a bit shallower than the stock which means my eyes are closer to the lens which means an increased fov. This on the amvr interface has a better fov than the stock interface. If I had to guess how much, I'd say somewhere around 8% horizontal and I don't know how much vertical. I feel I am very close to seeing the actual square sides of the panels now.

It feels nice and is shockingly very comfortable, more comfortable than the pleather AMVR pad is which is something I was not expecting. I also have the Quest far tighter against my face than I ever did with the stock or the AMVR padding which also really surprised me since I didn't think it would add this much to the comfort level given it is just a fairly thin piece of material.

Only negative so far I could see is the flaps by the nose could be a bother if one's nose is bigger or shaped in a way they would press on it. This could be fixed by just cutting the flaps off.

I can easily recommend this style cover (this is the brand I got: https://www.amazon.com/Esimen-Silicone-Cushion-Sweatproof-Lightproof/dp/B07WVCBN25/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=quest%2Bsilicone&qid=1569554570&sr=8-2&th=1 ) and the fact it is so much cheaper than the AMVR kit is a bonus. Even if you don't want to go for one of these, just do NOT get the AMVR cover.

I paid over $850 long ago for a Note 5 so i could experience Gear VR. The Note 5's display broke so I bought a used S6 for $200.

I use the following cooling fan and the S6 will not overheat.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KPTSQ4W/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2YYE48FAL7ZX&colid=RZMBCA14K6EL

I don't know if it's possible for S7s and S8s to overheat, but if they do, the fan is the solution for those phones too. Why spend 10, 15 or 30 minutes in VR when you can stay there as long as you like -- on an S6 or Note 5. The new Gear VR controller even works with the S6.

Since I haven't tried an S7 or S8, I don't know performance-wise how much I'd gain by upgrading to an S8 when it comes to VR. Cooling's my main concern and the fan keeps the S6 and Note 5 cool. You could go the gel pack route and put those in the Gear VR, but a one-time payment of $35 for the fan eliminates that headache.

The fan is a cover that looks like the Gear VR's original over. You snap the fan cover on the Gear VR, cut it on and you're done. Without that fan, my S6 will overheat in 15 minutes or less. That time may be different for different phone owners. From what I've read, some people can use an S6 in the Gear VR for longer periods of time without a fan running.

I did notice a slightly bigger FOV on the Note 5 but it's not that significant. Back in the day, even Carmack said the FOV between those two phones wasn't that big of a deal -- even thought the Note 5's bigger.
Here's one review of the fan from the review page..
--

Very impressed! A friend and I both have the same phone, so we put this to the test. I put the Fan on my Gear VR at the start of play, and we played the game Wands against each other. After about 8 matches, his phone was very hot and starting to jitter. I took mine out and it was cool to the touch. Normally, mine would be in the same shape as his.

I've tested out several different ones. Honestly, I didn't like any of the silicone covers. Silicone is supposed to be breathable, but these did nothing for stopping sweat from wicking the sweat to the cloth Quest covering, and they feel 'sticky' after just a bit of use if you take them off and put them back on, even with an alcohol wipe-down (the silicone absorbs a bit).

Also, I don't recommend any of the cloth covers. From my tests after a single wash even in cold-water by hand, they end up stretching in all the wrong ways and tough to get aligned right without leaving gaps or interfering with vision.

My favorite has been a leather cover. The AMVR cover comes with a replacement bracket with velcro attached and two different thickness leather covers. It also has notches in the top corners for the glasses arms. It comes with a nose guard that sticks with double-sided tape at the bottom to block out light, but I don't use that. I got mine on Amazon for $30.

If you do really want to go with silicone, the best of the bunch that I've tried was the "VR Face Silicone Cover Mask & Face Pad" from a seller named Devansi on Amazon. I had to trim around the inside a bit so it didn't interfere with vision.

Here are the links to Amazon (Sorry MOD if it's against the rules; let me know and I'll edit them out)

Best silicone cover that I tested: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X6DJQS1

BTW, the reason why I have tested so many different Quest products (covers, batteries, cords, cases) is to recommend setups for VR training. I wanted to find the best ones that would allow easy wipe-down in-between sharing among different user.

u/FlailingFatKid · 4 pointsr/OculusQuest

So I can't say that I'm 100% sold on this yet, but I got it a week ago from amazon for $12 and it's working pretty well for me. It's a soft silicone cover that goes over the original foam. It's comfortable enough, and it completely blocks any sweat from getting onto the foam. You kinda get the best of both worlds, all the padding of the foam and completely waterproof. It's easy enough to take off too, if you're not going to be playing an active experience.

The only reason I say I'm not completely sold on it is that it makes it a little tighter to wear my glasses, and it seems like the quest doesn't breathe quite as well and the lenses fog up after playing Beat Saber for a while. For the price though, I'm glad I didn't go for the VR Cover.

Google Cardboard is a pretty sick tech demo, but its not something I want to use for as long as I want to play ED haha. That link actually details setup for ED specifically, and it most certainly includes headtracking! Although mine slowly drifts to the left, which is pretty annoying. You can actually use the application to stream anything, and it can do "fake 3d" so you can take any random media file and play it on a virtualized big screen.

If you're interested in VR and have a decent phone, check it out. You can get a variety of headsets that accomplish the same thing, or make your own out of cardboard! They have some nice ones that have headstraps and everything though. Well worth a couple bucks to get a taste of VR. I'm so very tempted to get a rift, but I'm trying to wait for the consumer version. The app is free to try it out, but it'll stop after 10 minutes unless you pay for the full version ($6 and change... worth it again.) I'll warn you though, text is basically unreadable and I haven't quite gotten the aspect ratio right, but these things are correctable. I'm using a nexus 4 with it, but I'm sure its better on newer phones with higher resolutions.

I've found some print-outs (like this one), but I'm a fan of tailoring it to my own needs. I may take a look for ideas though.

u/t-nutz · 1 pointr/Vive

I'll just mention stuff I've tried myself.

If money is no object, multiple monitors or at least headless ghosts are ironically useful in virtual desktop applications like Bigscreen. I run 3x2560x1600 in one large screen. Bigscreen has an update coming for multiple monitors too. Big physical screens are nice for spectators/multiplayer.

Until the wireless adapter comes out, a decently long displayport cable and longer USB cable running to the link box to cover the large play area and if you have an original Vive, the new 3-in-1 cable with a sleeve.

I've been looking at [this overhead pulley thing](https://www.amazon.com/MDW-Retractable-Management-Headset-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/
) but I haven't actually tried it yet.

Two Vives would be good, you can run them off the same 2 base stations and partition the space with chaperone. I run a Rift and a Vive in the same room.

Accessories:

  • Wireless headset/mic and an anchor for it
  • HOTAS, pedals (CH Throttle, T16000M, driving pedals for Elite Dangerous)
  • Force feedback wheel/pedals/shifter (old G25 here and the Simraceway wheel - surprisingly precise handheld wheel you don't mount to anything)
  • Xbox one controllers
  • Steam controllers
  • X-Arcade/NES/whatever emulation controllers
  • Leap Motion
  • Charging stations and rechargeable batteries
  • Locomotion options like Omni (Virtuix still hasn't shown up yet) / PocketStrafe / Wii balance board w/ GlovePie hacks

You might want a good recording setup with mixed reality support as well.

    e: stuff I forgot

  • Transducer like a buttkicker for tactile feedback in seated experiences (mine is a DIY) / Subpac wearable for standing

u/Google-Fu_Shifu · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest
  • First off, comfort: The Quest is front heavy so a decent battery pack as a counter-weight is essential. I also got a mounting kit to go with it which works well. This also has the obvious advantage of elongating your playing time quite a bit. This coupled with a pair of discrete earbuds and you can save the bag of cash that others are spending on the DAS mod.
  • Next up, controller security. I play a game where throwing away empty guns is part of the game play. In order to make sure you don't accidentally toss your controllers as well in the heat of a John Wick style gun kata combination you're going to need some knuckle straps.
  • Portability means taking your Quest with you. So, you'll need a decent case to protect your new best friend.
  • As someone already mentioned, you'll want to cover your lenses when not in use to protect them.
  • The one thing that many forget on lists like these, rechargables for your controllers!
u/RisingTide84 · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

As someone who has scratched their lenses with their glasses, PLEASE buy some sort of lens protectors! I bought these in black https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3653631

And while not needed I also purchased the 3D printed brackets for the DAS mod. I bought the first design, but I think they have improved a bit since then.

I would also highly recommend the AMVR facial interface, it has a cut out specifically for glasses and it is super comfortable. https://www.amazon.com/AMVR-Interface-Bracket-Leather-Replacement/dp/B07VT3BM7P

I also bought the VR cover DAS padding because the DAS started to hurt the back of my head. the VR cover padding is AMAZING! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0749JN5G7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally, I picked these up rechargeable batteries and they hold a charge for a really long time. I would highly recommend them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JHKSMJU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hope this list helps!

u/TalkingRaccoon · 8 pointsr/oculus

I got a Rift S a few months ago and these additions were a must imo:

  1. Hand straps to make them like knuckles controllers. You don't have to be constantly gripping your controller which is nice for long play periods. I have wrist problems so any help is good. but just being able to "let go" of stuff is excellent for immersion. I got the Mamut ones, and really like them. There's these Kiwi too which are cheaper.

  2. I primarily play beat saber so vr cover is a must so the foam doesn't get super gross. Also I got a workout headband or else sweat will get all in your eyes

  3. And since i value sound for Beatsaber, the built in speakers just don't cut it (missing bass) so I got these clip on headphones originally made for PSVR. They will clip on just fine to the Rift S halo. They sound fine. Maybe $40 was a bit much. If you're a tinkerer look up the Koss headphones mod. They're like $12 it looks like. And there's 3d printed things to clip the Koss to the halo strap.
u/phoenixdigita1 · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

VR Covers for either Vive or Rift would be essential for a both hygiene and comfort.

Something you may not have considered is that frail people have frail skin and you are going to want to make sure that you are not putting too much pressure on that skin causing irritation or bruising/tearing. More importantly for people on blood thinners. Sure those of us who have been using both the Vive and the Rift don't have issues but we also don't have fragile skin. Incase someone pipes up with "My grandma/grandpa didn't have issues" Not every old person is the same.

Keep that in mind when choosing a headset and covers. You want maximum comfort and ease of putting on and taking off.

Foam

The Vive currently has softer foam with the Rift's being quite hard. Covers should resolve this for both headsets. Some third party sellers even offer softer foam.

https://vrcover.com/

Even the Gear VR foam was pretty rough on my dads skin.

And maybe even hygiene covers
https://www.amazon.com/Hygiene-VR-headset-Oculus-PlayStation/dp/B01DHKBVQQ

Integrated Headphones

Don't underestimate integrated headhpones as this will make putting on and taking off the headset really easy. The Vive will have these soon so that will not be an issue in the longer term. The way both flip up allows them to still hear you giving instructions while also hearing the experience in VR.

Wireless Signals

The comment someone else made before about certain areas of hospitals not allowing wireless devices. Keep that in mind. Even ignorant doctors might freak out for those with pacemakers or other medical devices. Sure it will likely not affect them but you are not going to get anywhere arguing with a doctor who decides if you are allowed into their institution or not.

Both headseats use wireless comms unless you used the Rift with a Wired XBox Controller. The XBox controller might be a bit confusing for the elderly. The Rift Remote might be simpler however does use low power wireless comms. That said it looks like a simple remote so might past scrutiny from ill informed doctors.

Seated experiences

You will only need one lighthouse or Rift sensor for seated experiences so both headsets are on par for simplicity of setup. The Vive will need a very short setup config when you move the lighthouses and the Rift will not (for one sensor). It is an insignificant step on the Vive but worth pointing out if you are moving it every 15 minutes from bed to bed.

And as another poster said. Lets not turn this thread into a Rift/Vive debate as both headsets will work great. Keep that at the door this topic is about helping frail people not justifying your purchase. Obviously pointing out pros/cons for a hospice environment are encouraged of course.

u/animatroniccat · 3 pointsr/OculusQuest

Here’s been my recommendation to anyone: DAS mod and silicone cover. Best thing I ever did. DAS probably isn’t necessary but I enjoy the head phones portion and the ease of adjustment (and it’s pretty comfy). Originally bought a vrcover (both the plush and the thin) but the Interface they use doesn’t work with my face and drove me crazy, lots of pressure on my cheekbones where the weight sat plus it would slide down. Tried the silicone cover (covers the om face gasket) on a whim and it’s been magical. Covers up the nose gap which is nice. Feel really good against my skin ( wasn’t expecting that thought it would be rubbery) but most importantly it kindof grips my face and the weight feels much more evenly distributed. It’s still gonna be a heavier device than my rift s but now I can play a game and instead of my main focus being on shifting and adjusting the headset I can just enjoy the game. Here’s a link for the cover I got. Wish I didn’t spend the money on the shitty vr cover which has no return policy.

Orzero Silicone Eye Mask Cover... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WV22V8J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Also I tried using a counterweight with the das and found it didn’t affect my comfort at all so unless I’m gaming with a battery pack I normally don’t use it. Others have said it makes a big difference for them though.

u/captroper · 2 pointsr/ValveIndex

Yeah, i had this one set up downstairs until I got the wireless adapter. It's not perfect, but it is a huge improvement over the cable being on the floor. Apart from the obvious never tripping on it (that rarely happened anyways) it's pretty helpful for doing full circles, like when going up a staircase in skyrim for instance. With the distance that I had in my room there was a bit of tugging when I got close to the boundaries, but otherwise it worked pretty well.

u/OwThatHertz · 1 pointr/VRGaming

> Forgot to answer, I have about 5 foot of space. Another question, is there anyway to have the headsets wireless or are the forced wired? And if so is there any negatives or benefits from having it wireless vice versa

This may be a factor that ends up making the HMD decision for you if it matters that much.

Both the Vive and the Rift have wireless options. The option for the Rift (and it's also made for the Vive) is called the TPCast and is a ~$300 option. Note that the Vive and Rift versions are not interchangeable. Also note that the TPCast is an excellent proof of concept but has some technical issues that, in my opinion, mean it isn't ready for prime time. I had one and returned it.

That said, HTC has launched an official wireless solution that's much more polished. It is $300 and requires a PCIe card to function, unlike the TPCast which was a wireless/ethernet-based solution. However, it appears to be the real deal.

Note that there are also cable management solutions that do a reasonably decent job of keeping cables out of the way, assuming they're long enough. I'm currently using something like this. However, the included retractable devices aren't really strong enough unless they are spaced together closely or more than one is at a specific point and then you plan how your cable will be supported and where it will coil as it gets retracted. There are better retractable key rings than the ones this kit includes (these ones are designed for key cards rather than keys, so they're weaker) so I may replace them. Also, the sticky pads won't stay sticky forever and come off textured surfaces almost immediately. I ended up screwing them into ceiling joists in my basement, which is where my VR is usually set up. I'll probably upgrade to the wireless solution when it becomes available because I like quality of life improvements to VR, but it's by no means a necessary expense. I'd recommend putting that money toward a good video card and an inexpensive cable management setup rather than getting a cheap video card so you can go wireless.

u/melnair · 2 pointsr/MotoX

i purchased this one from Amazon as a gift and accidentally ordered two. Decide to keep the extra, and i got to say that this is the best thing i have purchased in a long while. The X sticks out a little but it works great! Everyone who i have showed it to has been completely floored by it and 2 people are actually going to get the X as a direct result of playing with Cardboard and the Spotlight app.
The X does get a little warm if i use it for a long time but i have had no issues other than that.

The one i got works great other than the double-sided tape they use is kinda lame so i added a more robust tape but other than that i absolutely love it . Also, i used a penknife to score the pulltab before pulling it because the perforations seemed a little shallow. A bunch of people are getting this from me as Christmas gifts.

i can vouch for this

suprised not to see this. i prefer it over the silicone cover. the vrcover ones are probably similar but i read complaints
https://www.amazon.com/AMVR-Interface-Bracket-Leather-Replacement/dp/B07VT3BM7

i got those both for free , used and bought other similar stuff that was shipping was suprised to end up liking the free (valueless) stuff i would only keep for the eventual resale value.

Cases and batteries come down to the preference. i prefer nothing but velcro ties to hold the battery at this point. to fit in travel cases easier and to swap with different sized batteries

vouch for kiwi grips too

i mean, it ends up like 5 bucks more for a better quality item, but does it really matter with these things?

u/artemisdragmire · 2 pointsr/Vive

This is exactly how my setup is. I run 2 sequences of 3 in my apartment with a huge vaulted ceiling.

It works great.

I've had it for about a week now and I've only actually tangled the cables themselves once, and honestly, it was on me.

Just be careful about giving yourself enough/too much slack. I've had to make adjustments on mine to keep me from smacking the headset cable during big downward swipes in BeatSaber, for example.

I may eventually add a third set of these, the 2 tend to create a little too much hanging slack.

I would recommend /u/BHPhreak go with these cables, and just go overboard on them. They're super cheap, just order more than you think you'd ever need, that way even if one breaks or something, you can quickly replace it. (though, they seem super sturdy)

EDIT - I used these, by the way.

you got it.

by the way, i have the VR D2 headset. they're comfortable enough, but there is definitely light coming in from around my nose. also, they bug my eyes a bit. i'm 40 and it feels like the screen is a little too close. bringing the fresnel lens as close to my face as possible helps, but i could stand for it to have a little more room to travel.

i've heard something like this helps for getting a better fit and blocking the light a little more. there are other versions and you could even do your own if you want to buy foam and cut to fit.

Great seller and great product. Sure, you could homebrew your own solution with dog leashes and ID badges but it will be more expensive with a marginally better benefit (if any). It comes with both anchors and adhesive pads. I have a popcorn/textured ceiling so I opted for the drywall anchors in the ceiling and they’ve worked beautifully despite the unconventional setup I have where I play VR.

u/zerozed · 3 pointsr/SteamVR

I purchased [a set of these](https://smile.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524234947&sr=8-3& keywords=vive+cable+management) last year. Note that Amazon carries a variety of similar products. It works fairly well but I'd add some caveats. I have a drop-ceiling in my playspace so I was able to use string to affix the mechanism and didn't have to use the adhesive (which is reportedly very strong to the point of pulling off paint upon removal). You still have to be careful with a system like this because if you're swinging/punching with your arms, you can easily connect with a hanging cable.

I'm not sure if I really recommend it, but I don't regret getting it. I don't always use it, but when I do it has been useful.

u/Croccy22 · 3 pointsr/virtualreality

If you are getting distortion that bad then there is probably a fix. When I first got mine it was really bad. I was suprised that the reviews were saying it was hardly noticible. I read people saying the postioning was critical but it just didn't work for me, the distortion was everywhere and felt like my head was in a gold fish bowl. But then I tried lifting it AWAY from my face slightly and it all became clear. I think I have a narrow face and my eyes sit too close to the lens, I can actually feel my eyelashes touching the lenses. And I wear glasses which I could not have done as they would be pressed up against my face (This was another thing the reviews said it was fine with glasses). Anyway I purcahsed a thicker VIVE foam from amazon, put it on the headset and it is now PERFECT. I don't actually see any distortion at all even when in the largest FOV mode. I think the pimax is just really sensitive to the shape of various faces and if your face doesn't match then you need to do some mods. This is the foam I purchased and I am using the 18mm one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XTBZBFN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This may not be your issue, but if you haven't tried it then please do. The Pimax is absolutely amazing when it is working as it should.

That was the beauty of the original GearVR compared to everything that followed. It had that removal cover that fit over the phone after it was mounted. So it was easy to DIY a little fan onto that cover to cool down the phone. For people that don't DIY, there were commercial solutions. With the fan on there, there is no overheating.

TBF any device you can get that uses your phone as its screen is utilizing the Cardboard technology.

Yes, google does offer a cardboard version of the VR viewer, but as you are aware, there are thousands of these plastic headsets available, with differing options and quality.

The one you bought is ok, but I don't think it has pupil adjusters for example, and having those make a big difference.

If your plan is to use Cardboard over the more expensive Occulus or Vive VR, the highest quality headset you can buy is the Samsung Gear VR headset.

Other than that, you are pretty much left with 3rd party headsets online. I bought one not long ago and really liked it, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C5IXFI8?psc=1 but there are better and more expensive ones on the market. This one has everything I need - without going overboard on price.

u/ThMogget · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

I didn't need the controller straps as straps... I have knuckle straps that make tasks with an open hand feel more awesome. Doing things like stacking blocks in First Steps feels a lot less like holding a controller with your back three fingers. It isn't necessary, but it's nice. Robo Recall where I throw my guns, I 'throw' my controller and it sticks to my hands and it's just better.

I agree with your point, that the Quest was not a comfortable product out of the box. I don't know if they just expected people would only play it for a short time, or cost cutting, or whatever. Before the Quest came out, the complaints were all about graphics and storage and tracking.... but in practice all those things are fine for me. If I were to ask for a change, I would ask the Quest to be more comfortable.

u/coopsource · 2 pointsr/Vive

I just received both 6mm and 18mm replacement pads. Both seem to be an improvement over the stock foam pads due to their tendency to absorb sweat and rip/tear with abuse.

The 6mm were fine, provided a little more fov but nothing mindblowing, at least in my simple, time limited tests. The 18mm is probably a little too thick but it is more comfortable. I will probably order a 10mm or 12mm version for myself and use these for demos/public use. Use of the 6mm may be limited for those with large noses or thick eyebrows. Also, they do not have cutouts to accommodate glasses. Overall I'm glad I opted for these as well as the Deluxe Audio Strap -- the later is totally worth it IMHO, especially if frequent adjustments are needed, e.g. demo/public use.

This is what I bought:

Anything that has like a spring that pulls back the line can work. ive seen people use those retractable lanyards or retractable dog leashes

Just a hook wouldnt work as the point is that the device "feeds you" cable when needed and takes it back when you dont.

I bought these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, Here is a sketch of my play area, and you can see where i put the hooks.

https://i.imgur.com/tfzMhYZ.png

Also if you get the DAS (which i strongly recommend) here is a couple of pics on how i setted up the cables on the headset itself (just make sure they come out the back)

https://i.imgur.com/GDN03Tf.jpg

And just in case you decide to get the ceiling cable management i posted, i found out that doubling or tripling the retractable hooks gave me more freedom of movement, basically i feel the cable pulling me way less with more than 1 hook, like so: https://i.imgur.com/3sATB80.jpg

Also, if you use the ceiling things, id recommend cutting a couple of "stoppers" out of cardboard, these helped me A LOT because from time to time the hooks would join up, or change places and make it unconfortable, these "limits" fixed that by limiting where the hook movements.

https://i.imgur.com/MTtEYjN.jpg

u/Scoutdad · 2 pointsr/oculus

For cable management, I use this one and like it a lot. The o rings in a prusik knot are great for gently griping the cable but the small hooks for the rings are not great for taking it down for seated games. I added cheap carabiners to make it real easy. Some systems just loop the cable trough a carabiner and that is not ideal but the combo of the two is perfect. So that one you are looking at would be fine just picking up some 2” diameter o-rings.

For my space, I have the cable run up the wall and across the ceiling using cable clips then near center room start using the badge holders. I use three towards opposite wall, then about 18” from wall loop back towards center of playspace using 2 more and stopping about 18” before center so cable is behind my head. Think a “J” configuration.

Works for me but you may need to modify based on your space.

Get Cable Guardian for rotation management so you don’t twist up your cable. Just search this sub for it.

I just use a 3M Command hooks on the wall for my HMD and controllers, works for me as there is no chance for knocking the HMD over. But if on the shelf works best for you that stand should work or just use a shoebox.

u/drogean3 · 2 pointsr/GoogleCardboard

i just got a BOBO v4 clone (virtoba X5 elite - identical model but without headphones for half the price $25 on amazon) and it's leaps better than my old shitty cardboard 2 which was like 15 bucks to begin with

cardboard is heavily moddable but it's just not sturdy enough, it will stain easily from sweat, it doesnt cover your whole face and lets too much light in to be engrossing, the colors will fade wherever your face sits, and the lenses will shift around and become scratched to shit by your eye lashes

it's probably the best you're going to get until you get to an gearvr/oculus/vive. This is coming from somebody who has tested both the oculus and vive.

I really can't figure out how you could make it better (maybe better/bigger lenses, better button) without going into gear VR territory where either you get one built specifically for your phone or like an oculus/vive where it's got electronics inside

Just keep in mind the FOV/experience depends a LOT on your phone. I have a massive Nexus 6 but still can't get the advertised 120 degree FOV - but even still, i prefer more of the "scuba mask" effect since it feels more real.

u/lolfacey · 2 pointsr/GoogleCardboard

Nexus 5x here, that headset is the same exact one I bought only with a different branding and a higher price. Overall it's a great headset with adjustable lenses and a head strap, mine came with a screen cleaner as well. It's fairly comfortable but does press on your nose a bit. Only complaints is that you have to take the headset off to adjust the lenses, and that theres no button for you to click. I purchased a ps4 controller which takes a bit of fiddling to connect but works great with all the games I've tried that have controller support. However there are some apps that don't have controller support and require a 'tap', so a cheap bluetooth controller might come in handy, i purchased one thinking it would work for games but aside from using it to simulate a tap it's actually pretty laggy(why i got the ps4 controller).

Here's a link to the headset($24.99): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C5IXFI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_AvI4xbPAHN26G

And a link to the controller i bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ELDVFVY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qDI4xbVWFG02D

I'm on my phone so sorry for shitty formatting, hope this helps.

EDIT: Not sure how big an S5 is but this headset will benefit from a larger screen, almost made me wish I got a 6p instead.

> Are Consumer Grade Phones Like The Galaxy J VR Capable?

If you're talking about the Galaxy J, then yes. But if you're talking about phones like the J1, then no, not really. The critical difference (apart from the overall specs) is that the J has a gyroscope and the J1 does not. Without a gyroscope you really can't achieve a quality VR experience.

But even a phone like the J will limit you to the Google Cardboard platform which is quite a step down from the Gear VR and Google Daydream platforms. I once detailed some of the differences between the Gear VR and the Cardboard platform here, and all the same advantages apply to the Daydream platform as well.

> you pay near a thousand dollars for a galaxy S

You can get a Gear VR compatible phone for a whole lot less than that. Second hand S6 devices can be quite cheap (they have thermal issues in VR, though they can be solved with products like this). You could also try to source an S7 live demo unit as some people have done (more here), or maybe even something with a bad ESN (the Gear VR software doesn't care).

Alternatively, on the Daydream side of things you could pick up the very affordable Axon 7, which is Daydream-ready in some markets already, and should be Daydream-ready in all markets by the end of March.

u/Shensmobile · 4 pointsr/oculus

I have large hands as well and I found that the “small” hand setting (lowest slot for the elastic band) on the AMVR grip is actually better for me. The reason being that it forces your hand down, and be placed lower on the grip, which puts my thumb at a more natural angle on the buttons and thumbstick. When the band was in the top most slot, it pushed my hand up which puts your thumb at sort of an awkward angle to the buttons.

Edit: Also I found these today: https://www.amazon.com/KIWI-design-Knuckle-Oculus-Controller/dp/B07XYYNXJ3

Nice that one part of the strap uses the original strap mount, this will be great for people who want a knuckle strap while also being able to use a (magnet) gun stock. Not a fan of the use of hook-and-loop though because it will wear/fail over time, and the mounting technique for the top strap leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm happy for more options.

"Ceiling retractors are the best upgrade for under $30"

Anywho...

I love them too...had to fiddle a bit with keeping the clips from bunching up with spacing and such. Also had to to bend the hooks to vigorous pulling wouldn't unclip the retractors from the ceiling clips that came in my kit. Not wireless by any means, but I no longer have a chunk of brain devoted to cable-on-floor-management.

If I wasn't going wireless next I'd probably get some like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0777H24ZG/ next time, so the cable can't slip and such. Seems like that would work better.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3285729

Best to use the small ones as you have a lot of expansion adjustment but not so much contraction adjustment.

TLDR; received Pimax monday, freaked out at horrific distortion and was ready to sell it. Tuesday i ordered all the toys for the headstrap/gasket upgrade and started figuring out the positioning. Wednesday mounted gasket and things improved dramatically. Thursday attached DAS and that was it, i was all set.

Bottom line, stock headstrap and gasket are trash. The Pimax has to be located perfectly for the distortion correction profile to be effective and i was unable to achieve that without the mods."

u/throwaway12341987 · 1 pointr/GoogleCardboard

How about LeNest? To me it appears significantly better and more feature rich than any you mentioned, and it costs $30. Some discussion here.

I got one the other day (branded Pasonomi). I would recommend it. I'll put a review up soon. It's perfect except that the phone cradle is waaaayyyyy too big for my little Moto X, so I have to position the phone manually every time (could be easily fixed). Also there's some chromatic aberration. But it's very minor and really the least of my problems. (Frame rate and resolution are the biggest, mostly because of my current phone.) I'd like to see thorough reviews of the optics on a lot of these, since I bet chromatic aberrations and spherical aberration are quite common.

Got my vive about 2 weeks ago and have been pounding away trying to get the tech kinks removed so I can reliably record and stream it. Figured I'd share some of my personal issues and my fixes for them.

First off my tech specs.

AMD Threadripper 1950x
32 gigs of Gskills 3600 ram
1080 GTX
HTC Vive + Audio strap

First issue I ran into was being able to reliably capture the video in OBS. The monitor usually displays a stretch image that doesnt easily conform to 1920x1080. You can mirror the display but then you are looking at 2 eyes and thats even worse.

This plugin allows you to use the mirrored eyes, strip one, and then make that perfectly fit 1920x1080.

Another issue is being able to see twitch chat while playing. Sure you can open up desktop mode but reading that can be a pain in the ass.

Twitch chat overlay fixed that. You can place chat on a hand or in the world, makes it convenient and limits immersive breakage.

Only other issues Im having that make recording a struggle is audio issues (2 mics and 2 headsets), No access to stream deck, no easy access to streamlabs, and cable management.

I'm trying a pulley system attached to the ceiling but I still somehow manage to get caught up in there still in Pavlov and Robo Recall... really any game that requires fast 360's with your body and not controllers.

Any of you found a way to get streamlabs, streamdeck, or cable management on 360's would love to hear it!

Cant wait till HTC releases their wireless setup. Hope that is solid.

HOWEVER - Only recommend if you are able to drill them - They can't hold the weight of the cables without being drilled - I used Tecks Self Tapping screws (meaning you don't have to pre-drill a hole for them) I can check the exact size I got if you would like.

If you can't screw these into your ceiling then I wouldn't recommend, as they really weren't capable of holding the cables with just the provided adhesive (Just being honest, I certainly wouldn't want to risk anyones safety or anyones VR device)

Fully wireless is full freedom but may have noticeable latency, battery, and comfort issues. A cable management system is always better than having a cable on the floor however you cannot fully eliminate cable drag or cable resistance. Cables will eventually need to be untwisted if you spin around a lot. If you can cable manage and nearly eliminate the drag/resistance then go for it. Otherwise, wireless may be a better option.

I've invested some €30 in this VR cable solution: link amazon . It works pretty well, though you can still get tangled up in the cable when you tend to turn too much in one direction compared to the other (apparently, I much prefer to turning to the left for some reason). It does get the cable successfully out of your feet however. All in all it's worth the price I'd say. As I live in Europe, I bought it on amazon.de .

You can pick up some [decent travel cases] (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07SWVJJXN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on Amazon for like £25, handy for bringing the Quest around with you. I also got a silicone face mask for playing games with my friends. It's easy to take the silicone off and give it a quick wash & dry if there's too much sweat etc. There's also earbuds like this but those ones I bought have a lot of hiss. Oculus offer their official ones which might work better.

u/Humledurr · 1 pointr/GearVR

Yeah then I'm pretty sure its the replacement foam that helps. I bought this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HRGPRAC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , though there are other and cheaper versions out there. Just make sure it fits your edition of the Gear VR

u/VodenGC · 1 pointr/ValveIndex

I have one of these, but to be honest I don't like it much. It's top-heavy and easy to knock over. I may look for a different solution.

u/MuttJunior · 3 pointsr/OculusGo

Accessories like this usually takes time to roll out after a product does. They don't want to have a ton of accessories for a product that might flop. So I think this is a good sign that the Go is selling good (which I didn't have any doubt on anyway - This just confirms it even more), and hopefully we see more and more accessories released.

As for this case, I still recommend the one I bought over this to anyone looking, though. If we go by the German Alternate.de site and the UK Amazon site listed in other comments, it's around $45 for this case. The one I got is only $17, and holds more. Not only can I put the headset and Go controller in the case, I can also fit an Xbox controller, battery pack, mini wifi router, recharger, and all the cables in my case, which the pictures for the "official" case doesn't look like it can handle.

u/iamralphsutton · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

here's the two I ordered that came already.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VT3BM7P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X4VQJ34/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have 3 others on the way.

These two - simple. one was super hot - and also required you to stick a nose guard in with adhesive.. granted it came with an adhesive sticker - but I don't want to do that.. plus it really made me hot.

The other - was flimsy - and felt like just a lite cloth.. that didn't really do anything at all....

So I sent both back -- and ordered 3 more...

I will let ya know if any of them are good.

u/Zetaphor · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Save yourself a good chunk of money and just get one that is already that form factor. I've been loving the KIWI straps

u/Nostrildumbass · 3 pointsr/oculus

Eh, yea. I'm not one to support such high markups on things so simple as this (a plastic trim with a few cheap fabric/fake leather pads to wrap around it). $40 is pretty ridiculous, let alone $60. This is why I went with the much cheaper VRology pad (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Gear-Face-Replacement-Cushion/dp/B01HRGPRAC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542724745&sr=8-3&keywords=vrology). I think I got it at half price, and it took about 10 minutes of cutting and sticking it to the Rift with velcro tape. I removed the plastic interface and it completely eliminated god rays for me, improved FOV (negating the reduction taken from TPCast a bit), and honestly feels a little more comfortable to me.

u/CoreXi7 · 3 pointsr/VRchat

Honestly you can just save yourself the $300 and buy These off of amazon and hang them up. Ever since I got them no more tangled cables and I have almost all the freedom from having it wireless. There retractable so the cable is always above you.

This is how I currently have them set up in my room Link

u/Diablo_Robotico · 1 pointr/battlestations

Thank you! The headset stand is the Skywin VR Stand. Pretty sturdy, for the most part. :)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075GWN15S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Tosplayer99 · 3 pointsr/PSVR

You can take the silicone like lightblock out of the headset and clean it with water, afterwards you can put it back on. I wouldnt cut it out permanently, if at any point you decide to sell it you wont get much if any money for it.

Its not much of a deal, you can also buy something like this, dont need to be this expensive 1000 piece set, you get a small pack for like 20$ and with this you can protect the headset from becoming too dirty.

u/darkharlequin · 1 pointr/beatsaber

retractable ceiling cable management. under $20. works great. been using with my vive for over a year.

I put some zipties on my cable to make it catch in a specific spot, otherwise, works great out of the box.

u/Dogamondo · 9 pointsr/OculusQuest

I received mine yesterday, branded "Esimen VR Face Silicone Cover Mask & Face Pad for Oculus Quest Face Cushion Cover Sweatproof Lightproof Comfort Set (Mask Black)" from Amazon.

Thoughts after about 2-3 hours of usage:

  • Easy enough to install - just popped out the stock cover and fitted this over it, then snapped the cover back in place. Job done.
  • Had some issues with it fitting snug at the top of the cover, to the left and right of where the top strap protrudes. This causes a slight sag in the silicone which may contribute to the sensor blockage (described further down).
  • Feels quite cold on your face when you first put it on. Noticed that it felt a bit breezy in there too (weirdly enough).
  • Very comfortable after some use and does not leave the tell tale red marks on your forehead and under your eyes (the main reason for my purchase).
  • Gets a bit hot and sweaty but no more than using the stock cover in my opinion
  • Light leakage elimination is good. If the standard Oculus cover gives about 80% leakage elimination (leakage mainly through the nose), this drops the light leakage by another 5 - 10% (still some leakage through the nose, enough to still look down and check your phone if need be, but nowhere near as easy as before).
  • FOV/Immersion - This was a hard one for me as I can't really tell what it's doing. Essentially you are adding another ~1 - 1.5mm to the standard cover so I felt like the FOV was decreased slightly (even thought the product bills itself as "increased FOV" (no idea how that would even be possible)
  • No.1 Complaint - There's a sag in the fitment of the silicon to the top of the mask that blocks the display on/off sensor. So once you take the headset off, it'll still be shining through the lenses. At that point you need to use the on/off button at the side to turn the display off. So if you need to whip the headset off quickly and be guaranteed that the screen will turn off - this cover isn't for you.
  • So in summary, I'm reasonably happy with the $12 purchase and aside from the inevitable annoyances it does the main job for me which was to stop the gauges and lines in my forehead and eyes after more than 5 minutes usage of the Quest.

    Cheers
u/porksmash · 1 pointr/virtualreality

Based on this reddit post indicating the GearVR pad from VRCover works on Lenovo Explorer, I purchased a cheaper GearVR pad from Amazon. It uses the same velcro so I know it will at least stick to the front, but I can't confirm for sure if the fit is perfect since it is still in shipping. I can update you in a couple days.

u/deathmonkeyz · 2 pointsr/oculus

A lot of people, including myself have done this. I had mixed results with the original Rift personally, but it seems to work a lot better with the S possibly because the cable is heavier.

You can get retractable cable hooks on amazon. Having a retractable system will allow you to crouch without pulling on the cable/hook

u/iBobaFett · 7 pointsr/PSVR

I went with this after someone on the sub recommended it:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/

It's working really well for me. Sorta similar to your method, but the wires are all above my head rather than behind.

Edit: Looks like at the moment it's $25.99 + $5 shipping. When I ordered mine last week it had free Prime shipping. Still sold by the same seller, just dunno why they aren't offering the free shipping now.

u/Talton1 · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Same with me, get a pretty damn good red ring around the eyes haha!

Might I suggest you get yourself a Silicone foam cover for the more casual games:

Really helped reduce the itching after 10 mins, me and VR face foams have never gotten along.

u/maxcovergold · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Thank you for this. Found the same product on Amazon UK for £14. UK Link

This is exactly what I need for demoing to people, looks like it slides on and off over the existing interface for easy cleaning.

u/drewdog173 · 0 pointsr/GearVR

Seconded. I own the black model with an S7 Edge (which is better for cooling), and I still had overheating issues. There's only one cover out for 2016 (black) cooling that just came out, and it's pricey at $45 (but nice). I bought it because I love my Gear but could have gotten one cheaper if I had a 2015 GearVR.

Here is a link to a decent case for the Gear unit. Good to have.

For roomscale I use my cable hanging from the ceilling using this (FreestepVR).

I think I won't really notice while playing roomscale games, but for seated experiences I'll need to find another solution. The Microsoft Motion Vector Reprojection works like the asynchronous spacewarp (ASW) from Oculus? At least with Oculus your fps drops to half the refresh rate when ASW kicks in, how does it work with the reverb?

u/Mottok76 · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

u/birds_are_singing · 5 pointsr/GoogleCardboard

iOS is pretty limiting when it comes to Cardboard.

Controllers generally don't work, specifically there's nothing that would emulate the screen tap you'd need for YouTube, Street View, etc. The items that work for that on Android are mice, which Android supports natively and iOS does not. If you have an iPhone app that supports a controller, check with that app developer to see which controllers are tested and known to work.

The viewers I know of with buttons that work out of the box on iPhones are the ViewMaster (small lenses, not really recommended), I am Cardbord DSCVR (good for travel, no head straps), and the official design Cardboard v2.

I've seen one instance of a guy who got a BoboVR Z4's button to work with an iPhone by taping an additional area of foil to it.

The BoboVR Z4 is the more or less default recommendation — large lenses, wide FOV, built-in button, head straps, adjustable IPD, adjustable focus. There are versions with and without headphones, without being cheaper. It's somewhat heavy (most plastic viewers are) and the comfort isn't amazing (depends on face shape).

VR Viewers seem to always have a lot of rebrands, I've seen the BoboVR Z4 sold as the Virtoba X5, AFUNTA, and Uniify UV003. Even the non-shill Amazon reviews are generally worthless as most reviewers haven't tried more than one viewer.

Edited to add: link to a Virtoba Z4-clone for $20. If you're willing to mess around trying to get the button to work, that's probably your best option.

I have a ceiling fan overhead. So I bought a lighting boom and extend my cable overhead with that.

I attached this boom to this mount, to the top of my entertainment center. And then used the same cable management everyone sells... I grabbed this one.

I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The original version has the problem you mention. Now they include a square of "sticky" designed to go between the clear plastic hooks and the wall/ceiling. Using that makes everything stay perfectly. Just remove the backing on one side, stick it where you want it, remove the other sides backing and the backing on the hook... press and done.

u/krakou · 2 pointsr/GearVR

The face foam (don't know the name) can be detached and should be washed from time to time (with care) using an antibacterial detergent/soap, even more if other people besides you are using the headset.

It takes all the oils, sweat and dirt from the skin and can become a nest of bacteria and may even begin to smell, this is not hygienic, so the care with that part of the headset should be bigger than with the lenses that in general are more protected and does not have direct skin contact.

There are disposable masks that you can buy or make with very fine felt, paper towel, etc. to avoid direct contact with the headset foam, Ideal if multiple people use the headset.
Really easy to do, no need for elastic and any paper towel with a hole for the eyes will serve.

Thanks so much! I was really pleased with how the link box turned out - it's just a friction fit, super tight. I'm using this stand for the headset, and this dock for the controllers. The controller dock is a bit pricey for what it is, but it does give you magnetic connections on t he controllers, which make charging way more convenient.

If the weight of your headset (or the tugging of the cable) has you down, you can use suspension cables like these: https://www.amazon.com/Managment-Suspension-Playstation-Microsoft-Accessories/dp/B0777H24ZG

It's difficult to say right, because the thing about skyrim and modding is that everything can be tuned to personal taste.

So what I would say, is that I would personally really would look into "Natural Locomotion" on Steam and the VR QuickBelt tool https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16467.

They are tricky to setup but definetely worth it once you get it just right. Natural locomotion worked really well once I got it to be done by using the trackpad instead of the grip buttons.

Also, not technically a game mod, but if you can setup the following correctly, then it adds A LOT to immersion as you don't worry anymore about that pesky cable on the floor and you can rotate physically:

https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523778848&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=vive+ceiling+hook

I'm also planning on setting up voice attack to press Z on shouting a phrase, like if I shout "Fuck" it'll shout one word by holding z for half a second, "Fuck you" would shout two words and "Fuck off" would shout all three.

So got off on a tangent, but I suppose you could say those are technically "modifications."

As for other mods, I would highly suggest, as tedious as it sounds, to search on nexus for mods by category, then sorting by endorsement, and really looking as to what they add and whether or not that entices you, and then grab it!

Personally:

  1. Ordinator - So many ways now open up as to how you can approach the game
  2. Imperious - Adds more gametime just by the mere fact that each race now can "feel" different and you can do a playthrough on each!
  3. Apocalypse - Again, adds many ways in which you can approach playing the game, which is always a good thing

Odds are too, that because there's so many mods loaded, something bound to break at some point. But until then, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I got this one - works great and holds a battery power pack as well.

If you have the white 2015 edition I highly recommend this:

I recently got one and I find it very effective.

Is this for VR? I use a suspended cable management system like this one:

www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/

Coupled with one of these belt clips:

https://www.bindvr.com

This solution has eliminated all my cable hassles entirely. The overhead system keeps the cable off the floor and the belt clip keeps the cable from pulling on your head when/if it gets bound. Works great!

Here's one

I'm not sure which specific one I bought, but they all should be pretty similar. The 3m adhesive thing keeps it so you don't have to damage your ceiling either. They're absolutely a necessity for PCVR imo

u/jethroboom · 18 pointsr/oculus

Some notes:

1 - I set up my cable with one of these kits, in my experience unless you train yourself, because you're still going to primarily turn in one direction, the wire will still get twisted, you need to take off the headset and untwist it occasionally (if you feel it pulling)

2 - This screw needs to be in a drywall anchor, or a bigger screw into a stud. It might feel snug now and work fine enough for you to ignore everyone's advice thus far, but it will eventually tear out. Best case scenario, you're left with a small hole.

This works too.

Been using it for both my rift and vive without issues.

Truly the best way to play.

BoboVR is a pretty popular choice. I use a galaxy 6 edge+ which has a nearly identical screen and have use the BoboVR with it. It comes with or without headphones too which is pretty cool as well.

Not sure where you are located, but here are some examples:

Without Headphones - https://www.amazon.com/Virtoba-X5-Elite-Headset-Smartphones/dp/B01H35AU3G/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1485561965&sr=8-7&keywords=bobovr

With Headphones - https://www.amazon.com/Xiaozhai-Virtual-Reality-Headset-Glasses/dp/B01N0T42IE/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1485561965&sr=8-11&keywords=bobovr

Many vendor rebrand the same headset, so don't let the name difference fool you. They are all off the same assembly line but with different names stamped on them. As long as they look to be the same, they are.

I got the ones without headphones cause I prefer to use wireless headphones instead from the PC.

EDIT - I can't compare it to the viewmaster as I have not used it, so I don't know if it's any better or worse.. sorry.

There is currently a Gear VR cooling fan sold on amazon for 35$.
I haven't gotten it yet, but according to the reviews, people are head over heels for this thing. It doesn't operate on the Gear's battery, it has it's own LiPo. It will add some extra weight, but I'm guessing it's better than an overheating phone. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KPTSQ4W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AJBDT8STJICUH

I use just a set of suspenders for my cord and it gets things done pretty well I have never messed with a cord Kiwi Design VR Cable Wire Cord... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0777H24ZG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I can recommend this: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0777H24ZG?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Might not be what you are looking for, but it solved the coiling for me. And keeps the cable out of the way while playing

u/E_l_0 · 2 pointsr/SteamVR

Here on reddit there are several threads of people describing their solution.
Personally I'm using these (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0777H24ZG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to keep the cable constantly above me.

I'm using two of them in series and this makes the resistance you get from those things barely noticeable - except on the very edge of my play area.

Regarding the "future of VR" I'd assume there will be 2 device categories (analog to PC / Notebooks).
One is designed for high-end performance / low weight the other one for mobility / ease of use - You just can't do both aspects without compromising ....

u/userminjo · 1 pointr/oculus

If you don't use glasses, one can get velcro tape and put VR cover foam on it. I personally use soft pad for gear vr. Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Gear-Face-Replacement-Foam/dp/B01HRGPRAC and yes, it does help a lot with looking through goggle effect.

bought that a couple weeks ago... works pretty well when you set it up right. Mine came with 8 too.

The easiest way is to just buy a ready-made kit like this one (which I personally use):

https://www.amazon.com/Managment-Suspension-Playstation-Microsoft-Accessories/dp/B0777H24ZG

u/yneos · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

This is the one I bought, but I think they're all pretty much the same.

Best accessory I've ever bought.

u/kevinwedler · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

Depends on the game and how much you are aware of the cable.

You could get a long 10m active extension cable and pulley the cable to the roof with something like this.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0777H24ZG

u/darealdsisaac · 8 pointsr/oculus

I have this. It works great and fits everything that came in the box, plus a little extra.
