I know what you are dealing with, and I'm so sorry that you're going through it.

What I've found helpful is to try making different levels of effortlessness for various daily tasks. Basically, it's just having contingency plans that I can implement as needed. Making them pleasant is also important.

For example, here are my breakfast contingencies:

  • DEFCON 5: Use whiskware to make protein pancakes. (1 cup of water+1 cup of pancake mix+1 optional egg, shake it up, squeeze onto skillet, and eat; add chocolate chips, blueberries, or whatever you want if you're in the mood.) Or make scrambled eggs and toast.
  • DEFCON 4: Oatmeal of choice (tip: no need to measure water precisely, just pour some boiling water directly from a kettle to make it as thick or thin as you like) or some healthyish cereal with oat milk (because oat milk keeps longer than dairy milk, which means fewer surprises, and tastes the most like dairy milk out of all the options)
  • DEFCON 3: Instant oatmeal cup, Kodiak to-go cups, etc. These cups are great to have on hand, and lots of brands make lots of kinds of them. Go wild.
  • DEFCON 2: Tsogo in a blender bottle, or whatever meal replacement powder you prefer (BlendRunner can help you compare options)
  • DEFCON 1: Soylent meal-in-a-bottle, Ensure Complete, Met-Rx meal replacement bars, or any equivalent zero preparation product that's specifically meant to be a complete meal replacement, because you need the nutrients and calories when things are this tough. (Beware the really small, cheap meal bars. They're too small to be satisfying, so you end up eating a bunch and it doesn't save money.)

Another thing that really helped me a lot was learning to drink more water. For almost everybody, this sounds as simple as just grabbing a water bottle and making an effort to change habits. It probably doesn't even occur to them that this might need to be streamlined for people like us.

    For me, here's what worked:

  • The right water bottle is big enough that you won't need to get up to refill it often, insulated well-enough that the small pleasure of ice can be added before you go to sleep and still be there in the morning, and – perhaps most importantly, I found – has a lid that doesn't even require you to open it when you want a sip (because people like us really do need to save every spoon possible)
  • The right ice tray doesn't require you to ever wrestle with it. You don't need to get rid of your other ice trays, but silicone ones will never cling too hard to the ice. This makes you more likely to get the ice, and the ice (if you're like me) will make the water more pleasant, and making it more pleasant makes it require less mental effort to get yourself to reach over to take a sip.
  • The right reminder won't require you to press a button to deactivate an alarm, won't ever make you scramble to turn it off so you don't wake up your roommate, and can be ignored relatively easily (just turn it to face away) so that you're still in control.

These are all things that require spending some money upfront, but are cheap to maintain.

Basically, the strategy is to accept that you're already doing what you can to help yourself, so making the tasks easier will let you do more and live better with your limited energy. Having contingencies that accept how bad some days can be will help to keep one very bad day from turning into a very bad week because you won't need to stretch yourself to get something done when you can least "afford" to do so.

Don't be embarrassed or ashamed by the lengths you need to go to in order to live decently. Others won't get it, but we both know that you're already used to people not really understanding.

If you want to talk more and exchange ideas about more ways to "save spoons," then just let me know. Good luck!

Ok sorry for the late reply, here are some examples of things she would probably love, coming from a Venezuelan girl living in Texas:

  • Pirulin. Everybody loves Pirulin, period.
  • Flips: My personal favourite.
  • Cocosette: I don't care for it much, but most people seem to.
  • Nucita: Who needs nutella when you got nucita. Tastes like childhood to me.
  • CriCri: Basically Crunch, but has its own distinctive taste.
  • Chocochitas: Also right in the childhood.
  • Susy: My mom's favourite. It's just chocolate filled waffer cookies but again, its own distinctive taste
  • Carré Chocolates: I think you can find better Venezuelan chocolate in the states but this one is a classic.
  • Savoy Chocolates: Same as with Carre
  • Toronto: Last but not least. Mandatory during the holidays, open a box in front of family and it will be GONE in like 30 seconds.

Now, there are more but these are the main ones, if you're busying off of Amazon or online make sure you look at reputable sellers with good reviews. Before buying online, I would recommend you check out hispanic/south american markets to see if you can buy in person without paying for the shipping (also since many of these can melt, etc)

Everybody has their preferences, but a can of Pirulin will probably make a Venezuelan girl love you.

My husband has kidney disease and his doc limited him to less than 2,300 mg per day. I keep him below that and his kidneys have stopped declining.

Here are some things that I keep around that might help you with your uncle.

Here are some things we use a lot that might help.

Morning!!

There’s finally a bit of sun once I get to the school in the morning at 6:45! I can’t wait until it’s lighter out while I’m travelling, the darkness really weighs me down. I’m hoping to up my protein game today so I have more energy to read all your updates tonight when I get home!

Yesterday was my first official day on my own as a boss, and it went alright. Not without some bumps, but thankfully they were small bumps that were easily fixed.

In Keto news, I'm down 2lbs more to make it 165! I don't remember when the last time I saw this number was, for sure before I got pregnant 11 + years ago. It's crazy! The mom stomach is a slow go, and I realize now that I’m going to have a loose skin/stretch mark combo that’s very becoming. Oh well! I guess I can’t win ‘em all with the weight loss. OH OH! I don’t know where I read about it, but I also bought Keto cereal and it has made me so happy!! It’s [this] (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XPHTJ6L/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it’s great! I had it for dessert last night with some blackberries and it has totally satisfied the need for crunch and for the ritual of cereal.

I have to confess, that between Saturday and Sunday I had what totalled to be 8 red new potatoes. The hangover on Saturday was reeeeeeal (Still have confetti in my purse) and I just wanted a starch. I felt bad about it at the time but in the grand scheme of things it’s not much. Oh and on Sunday when I was meal prepping for my kid and my sitter, I had three 1 inch cubes of honeydew, sue me! I miss fruit!

I hope you’re all well, and I can’t wait to read what you’ve been up to. I’m going to try and post in the morning and then read in the afternoon when I get home because I miss you all and reading The Daily.

Have a good day!

I am Indian, so I really missed naan after going on keto. Here's a great recipe I found.

I also love Chipotle's sofritas but idk what they put in there and I assume it is salty, so I made my own using this recipe.

I also really love crackers, and I found a great replacement on Amazon called Flackers (they're made from flaxseed)

I really like this pea protein yogurt topping too and this healthy keto friendly granola

u/_nagem_ · 1 pointr/pics

They may have stopped selling you in stores, but if there's a will, there's a way. Amazon can ship my favorite cereal at grocery store prices right to my door. I love the future.

Edit: OH GOD IT'S PRIME. Two days from now I will create a swimming pool filled with this cereal.

u/aennil · 1 pointr/bicycling

I make these (he copied the recipe from another blog, which actually fashioned them after Clif Bars, interestingly) and I would not recommend puffed brown rice cereal. I considered it, but I figured it would be harder to get them to stick together (having crunchy things seems to work better). I have had great success with just crushing up flake cereal, so I have about a cup- I use this. Also, you can save a little extra money by just chopping or food processing up some old fashioned oats, instead of springing for the quick cooking ones.

I think factoring those things in and using about half agave and half brown rice, cutting the bars into 9, using natural peanut butter, using prunes instead of raisins, using chopped peanuts, and adding in soy protein powder (the most expensive part honestly), it ended up about $.50 a bar (and I don't really live in a place where I can get good deals on any of those).

Edit: clarification for something that was unclear with a second read through.

The perfect bed? A porch swing bed. This would be HEAVEN to sleep outside listening to rain or feeling the sunshine on me.

Bedtime snacks you say? I may be weird, but my all time favorite snack before bed is a bowl of cereal..

I have wayyy too many PJ sets. I found some amazingly cute tea themed pajamas.

I may be 25 but darkness at night can be creepy! This lantern nightlight would do just the trick.

Maybe a weird choice, but a Taggies blanket. My cousin's baby was very texture oriented and would rub a blanket or toy until she fell asleep. If she didn't like the texture, she'd keep crying. We got her a Taggie blanket and she always rubbed it as she fell asleep.

This stuffed elephant looks so soft!

She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread

Candy is great, so how about turkish delights?

If you can go ONE penny over...
Original Hot Sauce and Jerky I've never had it but it sounds delicious!

Yes!

It was pulled from store shelves because it illegally contains crack cocaine. It is the best fucking cereal out there. It is pretty elusive though, and the easiest way to obtain it is at Amazon.

u/toppp · 1 pointr/AskReddit

If you'e going to buy an ice cube tray, the ice cube tray on toppppp.com is $2.50 with 4.8 stars instead of $10.50 with 3.6 stars.

Another toppppp.com favorite is the steak knives (actually all three knives: steak knives, chef's knife, and bread knife).

But I believe the most popular item on toppppp with the reddit crowd is the Rice Krispies Treats cereal.

Disclaimer: toppppp.com is my site, if you couldn't tell from the username. But it's pretty popular with Reddit.

Edit: ice cube tray price I linked to just went up to $3.99 + $3.50 shipping. But it's literally one of the highest-rated products on all of Amazon.

Actually, yeah! I mostly buy them when on holidays because I don't want to lug boxes of cereal around.

This is pretty much what they are like: http://www.amazon.com/Kelloggs-Cereal-Variety-Single-Serve/dp/B000CS9ZUG

u/paranoidpsycho · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I actually haven't had these since I was a kid but I have rediscovered them and have been waiting for a good excuse to order some... this would certainly work! :D

They are soooo good, so unhealthy, but so awesome. :D

u/cambionic · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Kickass! A lot of my friends are in the military and one of my closest buddies is EOD in the Army. Takes a lot of hard work in that branch!

I guess I'll list this because its amazing and less than $15 with shipping.

u/stochasticMath · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Rice Krispie treats still available? I need to go on a road trip. A drive from NY to KY would be completely worth it.

EDIT: http://www.amazon.com/Rice-Krispies-Treats-Cereal-14-2-Ounce/dp/B001E6K63A I love amazon

u/loonypapa · 2 pointsr/keto

This noatmeal recipe is pretty good. Add some of this for flavor, and it's pretty much oatmeal.

Also, this cereal is as close to cereal as you're going to get on keto.

This maple syrup is basically real maple syrup.

This is probably the best pancake recipe you're going to find, but it won't be exactly like regular pancakes.

For a crazy price, lol. Probably cheaper to befriend a Canadian and have them send you some instead XD

u/mrichard629 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

>I recommend adding a box of French Toast Crunch to get the free shipping at 35 dollars.

Nothing else needs to be said

The best cereal I've ever tasted was Strawberry Shortcake. Now I go for Frankenberry- although I never see him in stores.

You can buy some hard to find cereals online:

Amazon has Rice Krispie Treats on sale now

French Toast Crunch is up on eBay

Got reminded by this in the nostalgia about discontinued products thread yesterday.

Amazon is your friend.

I also saw a purchase together bundle for these and a ton of dunkaroo's.

Anyone remember Rice Krispies Treats Cereal? The pieces were so sharp and jagged that it was like eating lava rocks, but it was worth it because it was so delicious.

edit: Apparently, you can still order it, four boxes at a time, from Amazon.

u/Leo1103 · 3 pointsr/snackexchange

if no one can find them to trade you can get them online they ship free with amazon prime

TIL Rice Krispie Treat Cereal is a thing and they are different from regular Rice Krispie cereal

u/broc_ariums · 10 pointsr/AskReddit

Rice Crispy Treat Cereal. I can't find it anywhere in Oregon or Washington.

u/durpabiscuit · 6 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

Toaster - $8.88

Cereal - $0.47 each = $0.94

Milk - $1.29

Apple - $0.49

Bread (for an entire loaf of 14 slices) - $3.62 / Two slices = $0.52

Entire meal with toaster: $12.12

Entire meal without toaster: $3.24

All depends on if the toaster was theirs to keep, which I doubt. But those are just quick searches and items found online which anyone can order. I'm sure you can find better deals with more searching and with local stores

u/shneven · 1 pointr/food

Not sold in stores anymore, but you can buy them on amazon in boxes of four. Best damn cereal ever.
