Free USPS Shipping Boxes lined up like books on Costco / Home Depot plastic shelving. Flat-rate Priority Mail boxes are the perfect size for small computer parts, cables, etc. Box - 1 is great for larger items. I leave the tops open so something doesn't have to actually fit in the box, just enough of it to stay in the box. Best of all, they deliver the boxes to your house for free :-)

An assortment of anti-static bags, zipper-style ziplock bags, cable ties, and Sharpies are also handy to have around. Did you know that "ziplock" anti-static bags are a thing? I love those...

u/herma123 · 40 pointsr/DataHoarder

The drives are all 750gb Hitachis/Seagate sata drives pulled from a pretty old server that was retired and given away, the cases are https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CYW17UY/ . Bought 4 packs of 3 :)

The box itself is just a nice lock box my father had and wasn't using, so he gave it to me :) Very well built, waterproof, insulated. The perfect size and seems like it could fit 22 cased drives exactly. Will probably act as a nice Faraday cage so that I may watch anime after the apocalypse :)

u/woundup · 1 pointr/PS4

yeah, static doesn't really endanger HDDs like it might exposed circuitry like memory sticks or add in cards have since the HDD has a metal case but if you just want a piece of mind to store the old drive, people that swap lots of drives use things like this sometimes:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Silicone-Protector-Connector-HDDSLEV25/dp/B002GWF492/ref=pd_sim_147_6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JEWWBDZYARMX8WJ7VKFW

I've seen them used in video production or archival.

just popping out the HDD and placing in on the mat is pretty safe. Don't do it on carpet and you should be pretty safe.

u/natelanz · 11 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

Same KFL case from yesterdays thread, but I made some adjustments and fit a 2x 18650 case in as well, and it fits perfect. Great case for a day out and about. Case on Amazon if anyone is interested.

u/thehumulos · 2 pointsr/digimon

I'll give you my personal method and a friend's personal method. I personally carry between 2-6 at a time most days, so I use this:

https://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Organizer-JOTO-Management-Accessories/dp/B01FD6D59I/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=joto&qid=1566819516&s=gateway&sr=8-8

The straps securely hold the Vpets and I slip the whole thing into my bag (I have a small bag meant for carrying a tablet and accessories). This prevents them from knocking around.

Several of my friends use headphone cases, like these.

https://www.amazon.com/Sunmns-Earphone-Headphone-Carrying-Carabiners/dp/B071934DWD/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=headphone+case+sumns&qid=1566819696&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spell

Big enough to hold one Vpet safely, a lot of people really love these.

u/PiHasItAll · 3 pointsr/DataHoarder

I've taken 4 drives on a flight once. basically yes, this is your best option if you trust yourself more than strangers. buy a pelican case, get anti static bags, make sure it has foam padding inside, and fits in the carry-on dimensions

https://www.amazon.com/Pelican-1450-001-110-1450-Carrying-Multipurpose/dp/B0090XXY92

This case looks pretty nice also

u/emotion_chip · 5 pointsr/buildapc

The way you refer to it as a "archive" sounds like you don't want it on all the time but just want to turn it on as you want to store stuff on it?

A NAS is great if you always want access to the files, but since it's designed to always be on, if you use standard desktop HDDs they can die much quicker or if you use actual NAS HDDs they are more expensive.

Have you considered just using a HDD dock? Something like this: Startech Dock

Then you can store the bare drives in something like this: Startech Case

I have a NAS setup for files that I want to have access to, but I have everything backed up to "offline storage". I have an A and B copy of everything on the NAS (and all the household desktops, laptops, etc) and keep one copy at the safe deposit box at the bank and rotate them out once a month or so.

u/Crafty-Deano · 2 pointsr/nintendo

My only real complaint about the Wii U is lack of internal storage, as I like to buy digital. I bought this caddy and put an old PS3 HDD in and it works fine

I love the convenience of just being able to play a game, rather than swapping disks around.

For a point of reference, Nintendo games seem to be just under 2gb (Mario 3D World, Wind Waker), 3rd party seem to be around 15gb (Assassins Creed 4, Batman Origins), indie/eshop titles are less than 1gb (Guacameele, Pullbox) and virtual console titles are less than 100mb (Mario World, A link to the past, super metroid)

I'm sure there are exceptions of larger/smaller titles in my examples above, but I hope it helps as a rough example.

u/yAz_94 · 2 pointsr/craftymighty

Check out this case. Absolutely perfect for storing the mighty, offers great protection, and enough space to store things like baggies of herb and little accessories like the brush.

UGREEN Shockproof EVA Hard Drive... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072HJ4FTX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/krskilltherhythm · 5 pointsr/pocketoperators

This is the Amazon Basics carry case for "My Passport" external hard drives - it's $5 and fits a cased Pocket Operator really well! There's enough vertical clearance for the knobs but not so much that it's flopping around in there, and feels pretty nicely in place when it's zipped up! Just thought I'd pass along in case anyone else was looking for a similar solution!

u/LoganPhyve · 3 pointsr/storage

Drives should last a very long time in cold storage provided they haven't been abused or have already spun for several years. Keep them dry, cool, magnetically shielded, and damped for shock.

I have a pile of 2TB drives of various flavors that reside in cold storage as backups. No issues yet.

I have stuff dating back to 5GB quantums and 10GB WD's that still spin up and read just fine, but most of it is 1TB+ at this point. I kept a few old ones for fun.

Edit: you'll want to use a good storage container like these:

https://www.amazon.com/iDsonix-Professional-Anti-Static-Protection-Moistureproof/dp/B00FDLEFDE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1484066431&sr=8-5&keywords=3.5+HDD+case

u/Roham21 · 2 pointsr/gadgets

I personally would not go for used laptops. They already have a limited life span of ~3 years.

How about this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FC55UX0/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers

The i3 and the 8GB of Ram will help immensely with your work and the integrated graphics solution is capable of running WoW.

The HDD is "only" 500 GB but with laptops in general I suggest an external solution. After all their failure rate is relatively high.

I would even replace it by a smaller SSD in the long term. Will make it overall faster, more reliable when it comes to shock resistance and even boost the battery time.

Is your Macbooks HDD still alive? You could get one of these for it and later your included HDD if you are going to replace it with a SSD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet%C2%AE-External-Enclosure-Tool-free-Installation/dp/B00DCEECKU/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1405003614&sr=1-1&keywords=hdd+external+case

Hard drive cases are great if you want something more portable, peli cases are too big and cumbersome for everyday travels.

I got this off amazon and fits the Mighty with a stand perfectly just about.

Oh excellent, thanks.

I do have this one in my wishlist currently, because it was so cheap. But with electronics, I've been told to stay away from cheap things because they can break easier. Is that the case (no pun) with HDD enclosures?

u/jnjitkoff · 2 pointsr/OPZuser

I've been very happy with Jansport's Pouches. I have the newspaper one. The OP-Z sits perfectly in the upper section's holder and has a pocket for a few cables and such below.

JanSport® Newspaper Pouch

https://www.amazon.com/JanSport-Unisex-Newspaper-Multi-Backpack/dp/B01N5IJ5OW/

Also comes in 🌯Burrito and 💀Day of the Dead.

u/crazykoala · 13 pointsr/DataHoarder

I was curious about this too and found these for sale.

edit: 2.5" HDD cases as posted by OP, $1.52 ea., 2.5 HDD plastic cases, free shipping, from China

Looks like 3.5" HDD cases are a buck more.

$2.48 ea. via eBay free shipping from China

$2.84 ea. via AliExpress $4 shipping from China, 15-30 days

3 for $9.00 via Amazon plus $3 shipping

I've used AliExpress for a few things and had good luck, except for clothing (sweaters) which were very well made but too small by a few sizes.

From Amazon (US)- Drive Logic DL-64-BK Portable EVA Hard Drive Carrying Case Pouch, Black

The case is a perfect fit for the DMG - and it will fit headphones inside, and an extra game on the outside, or a link cable.

I'd grab something like this: amazon link

That way, they're protected, and easy to transport.

Mostly amazon because I had credit there. I looked elsewhere but never found anything I liked. I don;t like the metal black box, because they look like a makeup brief.

u/CapableProfessional · 1 pointr/craftymighty

to be fair, the amazon essentials one fits Perfectly without the stand - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F5CKWBA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/BlueSuitRiot · 2 pointsr/Gameboy

I keep my GBC, MGB, AGS, and AGB units in these.

The AGB units are a little snug, and the AGS units obviously have some wiggle room, however there is a strap inside that will hold it steady. GBC and MGB units fit perfectly in them. Combined with these it makes what I believe to be the ultimate storage/transportation method for those units. Put it in the bag and then put it in the case.

If you want I can take pictures for you later when I get home.

u/RiggityRow · 5 pointsr/craftymighty

Dude, I've been looking for a solid case. No really comfortable with just throwing the Mighty in a backpack even though it seems strudy enough. This will be great and I already placed my order!

When it comes to carrying cables, I prize organization. I've been using this ProCase Accessories Bag for all of my charging cables
plus an Anker multi-port wall charger and a battery for over a year and it really does the job. Good price as well.

Your tutorials are excellent. Both the written and video parts are very clear and specific.

I only have one tinyyyyy suggestion. After putting in all that work I'd be really bummed out if I bumped against something and damaged the sequencer. You might want to consider putting the circuit boards in something like this within the pocket. Especially at clubs or festivals where you're liable to get knocked into by someone. AmazonBasics has a whole range of sizes. You could even cut a hole for the sound sensor and put the rest of it inside.

u/AsksAStupidQuestion · 1 pointr/pocketoperators

Did you get any kind of protective case for yours? I bought a little case for like 5 bucks in hopes it would protect it some.

u/KingDD83 · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

I don't know if there is a difference between ORICO and SISUN besides branding, but Amazon.com has the SISUN branded ones 5 for US$19.99.

Same for the more slimline model.

Also found the ORICO brand like OP's 5 for $19.99.

EDIT:
The SISUN branded ones come with a tray to fit 4 2.5" drives in one case.

Take batteries out of mod, put in battery case. Detach atomizers, though I've never seen anyone check that honestly. All these must be carried on, not checked. I use this case to keep it all separate to get through security without any problems at all.

100ml or less liquids you carry on in your liquids bag, otherwise in checked baggage as much as you want.

I actually use the same one for my passport external hard drive. Then noticed the dimensions are perfect for my hana modz box, so I got another. Very cheap, and ships amazon prime.

u/MP4-33 · 1 pointr/starcitizen

To copy all your stuff over all you need is a SATA-USB enclosure like this, which turns it into an external hard drive.

Then just use disk cloning software, take the SSD out of the enclosure, put it in the laptop and you're done. The other benefit of the enclosure is that you can now use your old drive as an external hard drive, for backups etc.

Yes, the 8.1 machine will be able to see the contents of the hard drive, it might take a while for your laptop to access all the files. It does a permissions sweep and takes ownership of the files, AFAIK.

If it's about 3 years old I wouldn't use the drive as your only back up, it could crap out on you at any moment.

Enclousures are a doddle, look at the retailer reviews before you buy.

Here are some good scoring ones.

I bought the illumishield screen protector which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/iLLumiShield-Nintendo-Protector-Anti-Bubble-Anti-Fingerprint/dp/B0159EESEA/
it installs pretty well and I even managed to install it successfully in my dusty room lol. It also comes with 3 pieces for each screen in case you mess it up the first few tries.

I bought a hard drive pouch for my n3ds, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VVH8Y6/
it runs a lil big but the n3ds is held by a elastic strap which should prevent it from shaking inside the pouch.

With the lack of pockets, but so much room, I picked up Amazon basic hard case zipper containers to go inside. Plus some zipper bags for usb drives and cables. for usb drives and cables.

Well I haven't found the perfect case off amazon yet but I ordered a few and can say that this case is too small - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F5CKWBA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this case is too big - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074SFRMKG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A little different. I checked my Amazon and it was this one.

At that size, I suggest looking at external battery cases on Amazon. You'll have to check whether they have a built-in strap or not. Something like this

Edit or maybe this one?

if you have a desktop you could connect the HDD direct to the motherboard if you have spare power and sata cable

or you could use a USB > sata adapter or USB disk enclosure to connect the HDD externally

Could he not just get a 2.5" Hard drive caddy and transfer the files he needs directly onto another PC?

The Amazon Basics case for My Passport hard drives is cheap and just about the perfect size. My wife had one for her backup drive, but now it's my PO travel case. :-)

This is what I use Amazon. It's a portable harddrive case. I only had to replace it because my cat shit on it.

I bought an electronic gear organizer sleeve from Amazon. I use a "nicer" backpack from Costco as a flight bag and put the sleeve in one of the laptop compartments.
The sleeve holds my battery for the Stratux, various cords, etc. I leave the battery in the bag and run a cable to my Statux when needed in flight.

It also holds a wall charger so that when I get home I plug a short 1 foot extension cable into the charger, then connect the battery to the charger, then my iPad to the battery (outlet>extension cord>wall charger>battery>iPad). Now my iPad is always charged and my shit stays organized.

The backpack itself has plenty of room for the rest of my gear.

Even regular HDDs aren't that sensitive to drops so long as they're not being used. You mainly have to worry about not breaking off the controller where the connectors are and not dropping in the water. Otherwise, they can take some abuse including moving around while being used - unlike HDDs. Grab any external drive case and use it to carry the adapter and 2-4 drives.
