PART TWO -- wrote this before seeing your VIVE arrives... basically tomorrow

-=- recommended accessories -=-
get the Deluxe Audio Strap. this is a MUST HAVE.

https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-Deluxe-Audio-Strap-pc/dp/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=htc+vive+deluxe+audio+strap&qid=1555922928&s=videogames&sr=1-1

i don't consider this an accessory...this is just absolutely CRUCIAL. installation took me ~15-20 minutes after watching a youtube video on how to install as the instructions that ship with it are ...lacking. there's a video of a german guy who shows you have to install it easily.... this strap adds not only great sounding, adjustable and comfortable headphones but (more importantly) will secure the HMD in a way that makes the default strap seem laughable. this deluxe strap allows more comfortable wear of the HMD, better cord management and eliminates the need for supplying your own audio (be it earbuds or headphones) while i ordered all of these "accessories" and received them before my VIVE, i decided to try the original / shipped strap before installing the "deluxe" and words can't describe the difference in fit, comfort, and how great the audio from the adjustable integrated earphones sound. the headphones are able to "snap" in an upright position when you are either removing /storing the HMD or just need to lift one up to hear something someone is trying to tell you...

-=-2nd suggestion for "accessories"-=-

probably most important second only to the deluxe audio strap.... get these tripods. you don't want to mount your lighthouses to your wall... with these tripods you are able to place your lighthouses without drilling/mounting. it is way worth the investment as the stands are very secure, adjustable and the lighthouses screw directly into them. no other parts needed, just these two stands... you'll realize that you might have to fine-tune/tweak the placement of the lighthouses slightly, and with these stands you are able to make adjustments (not only in placement but with the ball/swivel you are able to change the angle/pitch etc.) which you couldn't do if you mounted them.

-=-honorable mention -- not necessary but recommended...-=-

when i purchased my vive i made sure to get a nice stand to set the HMD/controllers on... (...i went a bit overboard with other accessories and for brevity i'll only mention two more accessories that i think you should pick up) here's the HMD/controller stand i purchased for when either storing the vive or to set it on while taking breaks/cooling off... . it isn't an absolute necessity but it gives it a nice place to rest the HMD/controllers during breaks between play (you will sweat a lot even in a cold room, i know i'm out of shape but with titles like sairento, sprint vector, space pirate etcetc i take breaks just to let my face breathe and cool off.) this beats just setting the HMD on the ground or on a nearby table which could easily fall off.... your call, but -- again, protect your investment!

"Skywin VR cable management system"
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0733NN7G8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

-- these are simply pullies that attach to your ceiling, allowing the cable to be out of the way of the ground... personal preference here but i find these very useful (especially with titles where i'm moving around a lot... sairento, gorn, QuiVR etc) ... protip: i went to walmart etc, purchased -several- packs of 3M "Command" large picture and frame hanging strips 16lb "large picture hanging strips" and have them all over my ceiling at different strategic places (depending on if i'm playing a title that requires my entire room i.e having to move my bed for the max. play area, or if i'm playing a title that requires only the smallest room setup or even for sitting) so using the 3M strips instead of the adhesive that comes with the pullies in the kit, i'm able to switch around the location of the pullies to suit each above situation...also, they remove without damaging your ceiling... if you have any questions on this just message me and i'd be happy to elaborate.
-=-
last accessory suggestion -- after watching videos of people punching holes in their walls etc. i decided to grab these protective frames which have saved my walls and possible harm to my controllers when demoing my vive to friends (even though when demoing i always have chaperone on "beginner", floor bounds on etc) it -never- fails that they will try to throw a grenade and hit my ceiling, swing a punch while playing Gorn and instead of my vive controller slamming into the wall, the cage around the circular top part absorbs the impact and deflects/redistributes the force from one point of contact to several. just throwing this out there, just in case you or someone you are showing it to will be inadvertently throwing your controller into your wall

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDLMYMQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

final thoughts/closing: hmm. well, i think i said a LOT here and hope that your experience with installation is pleasant. again, let us all know how your first experience went and feel free to ask any questions.

To expand on what the other commenter has said, both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift have had a fairly significant price drop over the last couple of months.

The Vive now sits at a much more reasonable price of $599usd while the Oculus Rift sits at $399 although it's strongly recommended that you purchase a 3rd camera sensor for $60 with it to improve the tracking potential. Both come with tracked controller solutions, the Vive with it's wand style and the Rift with Touch.

Personally, I feel that the Vive is a better buy, considering several factors so I'm a bit biased.

-The Rift needs a 3rd sensor which lessens the price gap a fair amount, and takes up a whopping 4 USB 3.0 ports while the Vive uses only a single USB 2.0 port because of the Lighthouse tracking versus the Rift's camera based solution

-They both work for room-scale games, but the Vive is more purpose built for it because of the way tracking works

-This is pretty subjective but I prefer the Vive's display and optics. Neither are objectively better but I like the Vive's slightly larger field of view compared to the Rift's slightly better readability with text

-Vive is much better if you have glasses.

-This is purely subjective, but the Vive has nothing to do with Facebook. To me that's a major plus, but you might not care as much.

As much as I adore my Vive, the Rift has several advantages too

-First, it's outright cheaper, regardless of having to buy the 3rd sensor

-The controllers feel more natural in the hand when you're playing games where you have hands instead of tools (Vive is better if you're playing a shooter for example as the controllers feel like you're holding something like that)

-The Rift has a built in pair of headphones which are actually quite good, and light weight. I didn't think this was a huge deal at first since I have good headphones already, but not having to worry about that extra cable dangling from your head is a nice luxury to have

-The Rift's stock head strap is much nicer, and general ergonomics are better. The Vive has an upgraded Deluxe Audio Strap that you can buy now, but it's a hundred bucks.

-Access to a bunch of free Oculus funded games through Home. The Vive can play these too, but you have to use a middleware program called ReVive for it to work.

To finish off this wall of text, some minimum recommended PC spec's:

-At least an i5 from the 4000 series of chips (IE i5 4590 is what Oculus used to recommend as a minimum) or 3000 series if you can overclock (I have an OC'd i7 3770k at 4.6 ghz and it's working great) EDIT: Also a Ryzen r5 1500 or better would work. Gotta rep team Red!

-Standard gaming amount of RAM, 8-16GB

-Modern mid-range graphics card like an RX 480/580, or a GTX 1060 6GB, or a higher end older card like a GTX 970 or R9 380x (this would be cutting it close)

I wouldn't recommend using anything older than that, any kind of stutter can and will make you ill. Trust me, sim sickness is no fun haha

If you've got any other question feel free to ask!

u/SubDc · 2 pointsr/CysticFibrosis

I find I too get nauseous, but only when playing games where you are smoothly moving forward, like you would in a car game or something similar. Hellblade vr is a classic example. I could only play that for 30mins or so before I would feel the motion sickness.

However, playing the games above ( in the YouTube links ) I don't get motion sickness at all !

So I completely recommend it if you have a decent enough computer system to run VR. The only bad thing about VR currently is the price, but I can honestly say it's the best money I've spent because I get a decent sweat on and work out when I'm able to, and it's such good fun.

I never got anything like that out if going to the gym. So for me it's totally worth it . And I really feel more people could benefit from trying it out because of how fun it is . It's a great escape .

You can even play nintendo Wii games in VR also using the dolphinVR emulator.

If any of you do have a decent computer or a good GPU, price wise I totally recommend a Windows mixed reality headset.

They are not quite a good as an oculus rift or a HTC Vive when it comes to tracking, but I have to say they are still surprising good ! and a lot more portable if you want to take the VR with you , if you are using a laptop .

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Explorer-Reality-Headset-Controllers/dp/B0764GKZ15?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-fpas-uk-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0764GKZ15

I have the Lenovo explorer, but I also own a HTC Vive. If you can find the Lenovo explorer or any other wmr headset for a decent price it's worth getting because you don't need any external sensors if you need to take the VR setup on holiday or in hospital.

I really think us cf'ers should look into VR for exercise alternatives as well as their normal routine as it's a really fun way to move about. So it's great for body and mind !

I mainly use the VR and dance mat games when I'm unable to get out for a walk ( if the weather is bad or something ). So I use the VR ,weights or dance mat games if I can't get out .

This is a decent dance mat game ( for exercise ) if anyone has their old Wii laying around

A few things:

  • Please be specific about what you did to fix your issue. It's a personal pet peeve of mine, but I hate looking for the solution to a problem, finding my exact problem listed, only to see the comment "Never mind, I tried something and it worked!" AARRGGHH!! What did you try? :-) Future readers searching on Inspiron or Max Q may thank you. Maybe even put it as a separate thread? It won't be highly upvoted, but it will be more searchable.

  • This is the HTC Link Box. It extends the HDMI and headset's USB port, giving you a bit more cable length and acts as a powered adapter (taking some power load off your system. Note that it does not come with an AC adapter so you'll need to buy one separately. You should find a link for a working adapter on the Amazon page.

  • You may be running into USB power management issues. Download Oculus Tray Tool and turn off the USB power management options. What may be happening is that the laptop is putting your USBs into low power mode to reduce heat, causing disconnects. Otherwise, perhaps you have a bad cable or headset? If it still happens, (a) check your BIOS/UEFI setup options to turn off any USB shutdown related settings, and (b) test your Rift on a friend's desktop system to see if it has the same problem.

  • I'm glad you're having fun! It's an amazing experience, and try to win over those skeptical friends of yours! Playing coop or even social experiences like watching a movie or talking in BigScreen are amazing.

  • A few games that seem great for people susceptible to motion sickness include:
SuperHot (you stand in one place)
Chronos (fixed camera position in a 3rd person adventure)
Eleven: Table Tennis (ping pong simulation, 1:1 physical movement only)
BigScreen (not a game, but lets you screen share with friends or join public rooms)
Pinball FX2 (if you like pinball this is a great sim)
I Expect You To Die (an "escape the room" game with great quality and humor)
Wilson's Heart (a stylized "film noir" story/puzzle/adventure game with fixed teleport positions)
The Unspoken (become a Dr. Strange-like mage in 1v1 or single player magic battles; I haven't played the single-player campaign but the PvP only uses teleport to fixed spots)
Star Trek Bridge Crew (you're seated on the bridge of the Enterprise)
Space Pirate Trainer (physical movement only; you're too busy dodging bullets to get sick)

That should give you a good start! Welcome to the future!

Edit: Some people swear by the VR Cover replacement facial interface, but I haven't used it. I've also heard great things about the WidmoVR cover - it covers the standard Rift facial interface with a replaceable soft cover that may make it more comfortable. You may want to check it out as a slightly cheaper alternative.

Samsung HMD Odyssey+ - $355.00 new on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

Pros:

  • Low cost of entry. This headset and controller bundle is regularly on sale for $299.99 new, and can be had for as low as $250-270 refurbished.
  • Uses the halo mounting method, ideal for larger heads and long-term comfort.
  • 1440x1600 resolution per eye, equivalent to the HTC Vive Pro.
  • Superior anti-"screen door effect" filtering gives arguably the second-best overall image clarity on the VR market behind the HP Reverb.
  • Uses OLED panels, which provide superior color range and depth.
  • 90 Hz screen refresh rate provides smooth head tracking, so most people with motion sickness won't have problems.
  • The spacing between the lenses can be adjusted for individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range, making it more accessible.
  • Included headphones provide good audio quality.
  • Extremely easy setup, only two cables and no tracking sensors.
  • Can be used in conjunction with SteamVR tracking solutions that support the HTC Vive wands or Valve Index controllers, providing an upgrade path if you're unsatisfied with the Windows controllers and don't want to pay for a whole new VR set.
  • Windows Mixed Reality ecosystem allows for some optimized games to be played on a much wider range of hardware. Space Pirate Trainer, for example, is supported at a 60 Hz refresh rate on an Intel HD 620 integrated graphics chip if purchased through the Windows Store.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Uses inside-out tracking.
  • Controllers require user-replaceable AA batteries.
  • Customer support is adequate, but the serial numbers for Windows Mixed Reality HMDs can't be registered on Samsung's website. All service requests must be handled by phone.

    Cons:

  • Only uses two forward-facing cameras for controller tracking. This can have issues when you have to reach back over your shoulders for more than two seconds.
  • Traditional low cost Ni-MH rechargeable AAs don't output a high enough voltage to consistently power the controllers. Traditional disposable AAs or more expensive Lithium rechargeable AAs are necessary.
  • Does not support finger tracking, controllers are strictly wand-style input.
  • While compatible with SteamVR, not every SteamVR title supports the Windows Mixed Reality controllers. If support isn't stated outright on the game's store page, you will very likely have to do some controller configuration tweaks.
  • No driver support for Linux users.

    Oculus Rift S - $399.00 new on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

    Pros:

  • Low cost of entry. This headset and controller bundle is $399.99 new at all retailers. While refurbished SKUs are scarce, they will likely be available over the next few months, and the sale price for new units will likely be discounted later in the year for seasonal sales.
  • Uses the halo mounting method, ideal for larger heads and long-term comfort.
  • Uses six cameras for controller tracking, which supports a greater range of motion than the Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
  • Supports finger tracking with Oculus Touch.
  • Oculus ecosystem support with exclusive software.
  • Extremely easy setup, only two cables and no tracking sensors.
  • Universal SteamVR controller compatibility.
  • Superior customer service experience compared to most of its competition.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Uses inside-out tracking.
  • Controllers feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.
  • "Screen door effect" filtering isn't as good as its competition in this price bracket, though still better than most.

    Cons:

  • 1280x1440 resolution per eye is inferior to its competition in this price bracket.
  • Uses LCD panels, which provide a more flat range of color compared to OLED.
  • 80 Hz screen refresh rate is still relatively smooth, though people more sensitive to motion sickness may have problems with it.
  • The spacing between lenses cannot be adjusted, so individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range will not be able to use the Rift S.
  • Included headphones provide a poor audio experience, the bass is especially weak.
  • Incompatible with other controller tracking solutions.
  • No driver support for Linux users.

    HTC Vive - $480.41 on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

    Pros:

  • Uses OLED panels, which provide superior color range and depth.
  • 90 Hz screen refresh rate provides smooth head tracking, so most people with motion sickness won't have problems.
  • The spacing between the lenses can be adjusted for individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range, making it more accessible.
  • Universal SteamVR controller compatibility.
  • "Lighthouse" tracking provides the best range of motion for controllers out of any VR controller tracking solution currently available.
  • Can be used in conjunction with SteamVR tracking solutions that support the Valve Index controllers, providing an upgrade path if you're unsatisfied with the HTC Vive wand controllers and don't want to pay for a whole new VR set.
  • Driver support for Linux users.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Controllers feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.

    Cons:

  • High cost of entry. This is especially noticeable given that superior competitors have emerged at a lower cost since the HTC Vive's original release back in 2016.
  • Velcro strap-based head mounting solution is more uncomfortable than the competition.
  • 1080x1200 resolution per eye, the worst in its price bracket.
  • "Screen door effect" is very noticeable when looking at the panels for extended periods.
  • No included audio solution. You must either use your own headphones or purchase the Deluxe Audio Strap separately for $99.99 new.
  • Does not support finger tracking, controllers are strictly wand-style input.
  • More involved setup process than its competition. Six cables and a bridge must be connected between the PC and the HMD, and two Lighthouses must be plugged in and secured above head level in two different locations across a room diagonally for optimal coverage.
  • Infamously bad customer service that regularly breaks warranty law for EU customers and often charges for repairs for unrelated issues or problems that should be covered under warranty for worldwide customers.

Kiwi straps suck. Mamut Grips are best for big hands, but are good. AMVR are the best grips. I own both grips. I threw the kiwi things in the garbage.

The silicon interface depends on the person. It doesn't sandpaper your face like the stock one, and feels nice and cool for the first 5 minutes, but it feels awful once it gets sweaty - imagine a wet rubber wedgie on your face. I currently have the VRCover 'facial interface set' with the 'comfort' pad that is pleather. It isn't perfect, but its the best I have found.

I hear some good things about the Studioform strap, but it looks hot and one more thing to mess with. I went went with the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, but that costs money. I ripped the headphones out of it, so I just have stock audio. I love the quick-adjust thing on the DAS like a hard hat - makes switching people so much faster and better.

Then there is the cable. I don't do the Oculus Link, but even so I have kids and I have heard of people ruining the cable charge port on the Quest yanking on it. I got one of those magnetic USB adapters to reduce the risk of port damage.

All of the goodies need to fit in a case, and I love this thing - its super sturdy and fits it all without being too big.

Then if you want to play in the dark you need a good IR light so it is dark for your wife to sleep but the Quest can still see.

u/Grays42 · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I have over 300 hours in an Oculus Rift. Actually, I have three Oculus Rifts, because I accidentally dropped and broke two of them. (Not a design fault per se, I was just careless twice. If you drop it on a hard surface from 5 feet up, it WILL shatter the screen.) I also possess a HTC Vive--which is in a box on the shelf.

I decided to try this "VR thing" when I found a good deal on a used Oculus. It blew me away. Holy crap. I dove so deep that I decided to also get a Vive, to play around with them both and possibly sell whichever one I didn't want.

What I found is that the Vive controllers are obnoxiously heavy and unwieldy, especially with my favorite game, Beat Saber. I felt like I was swinging cleavers around. By comparison, the Oculus Rift touch controllers were more balanced around my palm. Especially in my "Beat Saber grip", which I found was easier to play with if I moved my fingers up into the ring until the outer ring rests against my knuckles. This centers the weight of the controller squarely in my palm, and makes it so that I can swing the controllers faster than humanly possible.

Either of the headsets will do pretty good tracking. However, I do strongly recommend getting a third sensor, regardless of which set you choose--adding another sensor DRAMATICALLY helps with tracking for any game that requires you to turn around, and even helps with tracking on games that you face forward but sometimes your hands go in weird angles. Set the sensors in a triangle formation around the room.

I can go over cons of both if you want, but my absolute endorsement is going to go to the Oculus Rift, based primarily on the controllers. The controllers are your window into the world, and the Rift Touch controllers are phenomenal digital extensions of your physical hand. The controllers are BY FAR the most important thing to consider when choosing a headset. And, when the next-gen headsets come out, I will be making my choice based solely on the controllers.

A few things you will want to accessorize with if you pick the Rift. You'll notice that half of these are to keep your equipment clean--this is a lot more important than you think at first.

  • Wear a sweatband if you're going to play any physically demanding game, like Beat Saber. You'll get sweaty. You don't want to get sweat all over your headset.
  • Baby wipes or makeup remover wipes, use on all smooth skin/hair contact surfaces (headset harness, handsets) after each session.
  • Get this washable faceplate cover, or two of them, and wash them regularly. Guests to your Oculus will thank you. :\
  • Get disposable foam earpiece covers for the same reason.
  • Get a AA battery charger and some good rechargeable batteries.
  • Get a third sensor (mentioned above)
  • If you want to mount the sensors on your wall, either buy or 3D print these.
  • Get a USB 3.0 extension cable and an HDMI extension cable so you don't have to worry about the cord length.

There are kits out there to let you suspend the cord from the ceiling, but I feel like that's overkill--I always just have it run between my legs to the computer. I can feel it against my lower leg or calf and know where it is so I don't trip. Note that this is fine for beat saber, but for games where you are turning around constantly, it may be a problem. The main thing is to have plenty of slack on your cord so if you trip you don't yank something, you can really damage the USB cord if you yank it at an angle. If you can somehow pin the cable against or under furniture so that a hard yank does not tug at your USB port, even better.

Finally: some games are a goddamn workout, like Beat Saber. Treat these games like you would treat cardio: stretch beforehand, warm up, drink water, have a towel nearby, and have a fan on you. AND KEEP YOUR EQUIPMENT CLEAN.
u/TonyDP2128 · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

The reason I went with AMVR over VRCover was because I'd seen that the VR cover facial interface was pretty rigid whereas the AMVR one is more flexible. Still may try the VRCover one at some point but from what I've read the Quest product hasn't been as universally praised as their prior efforts.

I haven't really felt the need for controller straps yet. None of the games I've played have caused the controllers to fly out of my hands or make the battery covers come out. The wrist straps however do suck. There's a set for sale that is very similar to the ones on the PSVR Move controllers and those straps work great so I may give them a go at some point (DeadEye Wrist Straps).

Poor choice of words on my part. With my PC and Rift S my initial investment was all I needed for a satisfying and comfortable experience. I haven't had to do a single mod on my Rift S and it's worked great and felt great out of the box. I definitely paid more for my PC but as far as the headsets by themselves go the Rift S gave me almost everything I could have asked for right out of the box; coming from PSVR the halo design is so much more comfortable for me.

u/FredzL · 7 pointsr/oculus

> neither is comfortable to wear for extended periods without needing to adjust or take breaks

I don't know for the Vive, but I can play Eleven for hours without a problem on the Rift.

> Oculus is a little bit cheaper

Oculus Rift + Oculus Touch Bundle is at $598 and HTC Vive is at $799.99 on amazon, that a $200 difference, not a little bit cheaper.

> it's a little bit better looking, and it's a little bit more comfortable. Don't exaggerate the differences.

It's $200 cheaper and by your own admission better looking and more comfortable. If we were talking about any other products like phones or laptops there would be a clearly superior product here. Funny how it does not translate to VR.

It's a bit tricky to get a wheel and pedals setup to cooperate well with this game. One of the biggest issues I have with it is that it's only got 180° of wheel rotation. If you're interested in getting setup with a wheel and pedals with VR, you might check out Assetto Corsa, Project CARS 2, Dirt Rally or iRacing. They all have their own learning curve and audience, but my personal choice of setup is the following:

Logitech G920 Racing Wheel with Shifter - $270

This is honestly a bargain in its own right. It was closer to $500 when I bought mine and it was seen as a reasonable price even then.

OpenWheeler Racing Cockpit - $380

I've used this cockpit for over a year now and it's held up well. You can mount a wheel to a desk, but this brings it to a whole new level.

Oculus Rift S - $400

This one is a lot harder to recommend. VR is still in its early stages and I personally own a Rift CV1 (the first consumer version) and love it. My honest recommendation is to get a CV1 used if you're new to it. They go for cheap and I've never had any real complaints, but unless you're ready to pour $1000 into a Valve Index, the Rift S is one of the few other headsets being sold new that actually makes sense.

If you want to ask a whole community and not take my word for it on this stuff, I'd highly recommend /r/simracing. Don't let others' budgets throw you off over there. If you're looking for something entry level, but still a good experience, the setup I mentioned here has served me well in the past couple years.

u/LifeOfFyre · 3 pointsr/flightsim

Now I do agree with putting forward the money towards flight time as those costs really add up!

I do also have to agree with your original thoughts. Having a home flight sim can be beneficial if done right.

I myself have a setup and it has helped me and I know quite a few others that’s it’s helped also. If taken serious and done right a Flight sim can be used to practice outside of training hours. It can also be very helpful for instrument training and more.

The costs aren’t cheap but to answer your original question of what the costs would be, I put this together for you as an example.

Sounds like a lot but it’s value and use in what it could provide, could be greater then putting money forward for actual training.

I'll just mention stuff I've tried myself.

If money is no object, multiple monitors or at least headless ghosts are ironically useful in virtual desktop applications like Bigscreen. I run 3x2560x1600 in one large screen. Bigscreen has an update coming for multiple monitors too. Big physical screens are nice for spectators/multiplayer.

Until the wireless adapter comes out, a decently long displayport cable and longer USB cable running to the link box to cover the large play area and if you have an original Vive, the new 3-in-1 cable with a sleeve.

I've been looking at [this overhead pulley thing](https://www.amazon.com/MDW-Retractable-Management-Headset-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/
) but I haven't actually tried it yet.

Two Vives would be good, you can run them off the same 2 base stations and partition the space with chaperone. I run a Rift and a Vive in the same room.

Get an assistant/intern/wife/child to help you set up/put things away, maintain everything, patch/update, find new content, etc...

Accessories:

  • Wireless headset/mic and an anchor for it
  • HOTAS, pedals (CH Throttle, T16000M, driving pedals for Elite Dangerous)
  • Force feedback wheel/pedals/shifter (old G25 here and the Simraceway wheel - surprisingly precise handheld wheel you don't mount to anything)
  • Xbox one controllers
  • Steam controllers
  • X-Arcade/NES/whatever emulation controllers
  • Leap Motion
  • Charging stations and rechargeable batteries
  • Locomotion options like Omni (Virtuix still hasn't shown up yet) / PocketStrafe / Wii balance board w/ GlovePie hacks

You might want a good recording setup with mixed reality support as well.

    e: stuff I forgot

  • Transducer like a buttkicker for tactile feedback in seated experiences (mine is a DIY) / Subpac wearable for standing

This is there one I have

refurbished HP

The best of the WMR sets (this one was on sale last week for $299 so keep your eyes out)

MS recommends this Bluetooth dongle

Note the first two are basically the same: they all are, except for the Samsung which has better screens and manual ipd adjustment. The new version I linked to also has built in Bluetooth so you wouldn't need to worry about a dongle. Again in that price point I recommend Rift, though it's a tossup between way better screens and way better controllers, there :)

Edit: also, run the windows mr test -- you can find it in the windows store. If it says you're good, games like beat saber should run fine

u/cavortingwebeasties · 3 pointsr/oculus

I use a Vive Link Box to extend the headset. I like this approach because it does not really matter what cables you use because it's an active repeater with its own psu and it's made with VR in mind.

I use it as a breakout box to connect my puter in the bedroom to my Rift in the living room. I'm also using the displayport (dp to mini dp cable) connection on the Link, freeing up my limited hdmi for my projector. It's nice to be able to plug into an dedicated ports in an attractive component sitting nicely on a shelf whenever I want to use it.

Link Box

For sensors I found the ugreen active 3.0 extensions recommended on this sub to work very well (meaning they do not revert to USB2.0).

u/sitdownkelsey · 1 pointr/beatsaber

Not sure if this is your only reason, but we have a box of alcohol wipes and stridex pads for exactly this purpose. We tried using those vr covers (https://www.amazon.com/VRCover-ocv01nf-Oculus-Rift-Cover/dp/B06Y6DC1R2 ) but I found that it was harder to get those clean because they held onto sweat whereas the sponge on the oculus dries super quickly after a swipe with an alcohol pad.

They also sell disposable face masks for VR specifically for things like conference demo booths and VR arcades, but generally my friends are more cool with playing after a quick sani wipedown even if the headset is still a little damp than putting those things on their face.

u/TheRealHaHe · 2 pointsr/oculus

HDMI - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0777SCQZX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

Seems to be pretty good. People also seemed to have success with using the Vive extension box (https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-Link-Box-pc/dp/B01LXR6DKV/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=vive+box&qid=1550992342&s=gateway&sr=8-1)

I don’t know about that far. Maybe with active, it’s like 2am for me so I’ll take a better look at your-setup tomorrow and see if I have any suggestions. One question, do you use the oculus built in mic and audio?

Edit: oh looks like you have hdmi boosted from your cable description so you prob don’t need the HDMI repeater.

u/Mr_beeps · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

If you buy Rift and Touch you get seven games free. Additionally, you can purchase The Rift, Touch, and a third sensor on Amazon and get those same seven games free PLUS an additional $100 in store credit.

https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-Virtual-Reality-Headset/dp/B072F64645/?th=1

If you DON'T buy touch you're losing out on a lot of other aspects of VR.

I should note that I bought the Rift specifically for Elite as well and thought "I don't need/want touch." But then the price dropped to include Touch for the same amount as what the headset was anyway, so I went for it. I have spent more time playing other games and experiences since I purchased it than in the cockpit in Elite.

/u/MajorCodeBlue check out the link for the amazon bundle as there are only a few left and it is a great deal.

Edit: I don't see mention of the $100 store credit anymore and sounds like it may have been a limited time offer, therefore if you just buy the Rift/Touch combo ($599) and don't want the third sensor you can save $60.

u/ViveSuperUSANumber1 · 1 pointr/Vive

Looks like the ones from Kiwi Designs are not avail on Amazon ATM.. I like them because they give one 6mm and one 18mm. So its good for having better FOV and then one if doing demos for lots of people...

Safer gift idea would be below..

No idea on the chance of a Black Friday discount. Would be good if it was $800 with the DAS included.

I own and love my Vive and when talking to PSVR owners I am so glad I have room-scale and good tracking.

However, the Rift is $599AUD normally, and in the Black Friday sales it may drop to $500 and from what I've heard it's really not much worse than the Vive, and you're saving a good chunk of cash.

Also look at WMR headsets.

https://www.amazon.com/Explorer-Wireless-Headset-Controllers-G0A20002WW-pc/dp/B0764GKZ15/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540446698&sr=8-3&keywords=windows+mixed+reality
That'll ship to Aus and converts to about $280 AUD

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07CSFYJKD/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
That's about $310 AUD.

Also check Gumtree:

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/gungahlin/tvs/dell-visor-windows-mixed-reality-headset-with-motion-controllers/1198686836

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-electronics-computer/windows+mixed+reality/k0c20045

The Vive is the best on the market, but it's also the most expensive, so if price is an issue then the other options are worth a look. Especially since it seems you won't be able to take full advantage of large room scale experiences.

Nothing can use Valve's knuckles without the lighthouses (from Vive packages) though.

If you think you will be getting the knuckles or a Pimax in 6-18 months, than the Vive is worth it. If you've never played VR, just want your feet wet and don't have heaps of $$$ to spend, then from what I've heard, WMR is really quite good these days.

u/BullockHouse · 7 pointsr/HalfLife

Yeah, I don't actually recommend it unless you have a lot of disposable income. Valve was going for "highest quality VR experience available" and not "affordable". If you want a good VR headset on a reasonable budget, you probably want a Rift S($399), a used Vive ($400), or an Odyssey Plus( $349).

Vive and Odyssey plus have a better refresh rate. Vive is the hardest to set up, but has the most robust hand tracking, followed by the Rift S, followed by the Odyssey plus, which have progressively narrower zones of hand tracking. The Odyssey plus does have the nicest screen in terms of resolution of all three, so that's a significant advantage.

Oh, and don't get the Rift S if you have unusually widely or narrowly set eyes. The lack of hardware IPD adjustment really sucks for the far ends of the bell curve there.

u/telos0 · 4 pointsr/WindowsMR

I bought a Vive Link Box to use as a signal/power booster in the middle, and it works great. This cured all my dropouts and audio glitches, as well as giving my system a Bluetooth radio.

This setup works great:

  1. Vive Link Box
  2. Vive Link Box Power Supply
  3. 12 ft Power cable extension for Vive Link Box
  4. 10 ft USB 3.0 extension cable
  5. 10 ft Amazon Basics HDMI cable
  6. Wire wrap to keep everything tidy

Make sure you power cycle the Vive Link Box whenever you plug or unplug anything into it to for it to reinitialize and detect the headset.

I really wish there was a more elegant solution, but so far this works the best for me.
u/JamesWjRose · 1 pointr/oculus

ah.

Good for you for taking that time and doing the research. Amazon has it for $400, as does everyone else. Best Buy had it for about $25 cheaper a week or so ago (sorry) I pay for Amazon Prime and their process and return policy are great, so that's why i go there.

Get yourself hdmi and usb extension cables, you will ABSOLUTELY want these. (I really want it to be wireless but....)

Have a great time, I know you will

u/Heaney555 · 1 pointr/virtualreality

Get Touch. It'll be the best $99 you ever spent.

Touch actually comes with $50 of free games (Robo Recall + Dead and Buried) and $60 of free creativity apps (Oculus Medium + Quill) - so it's incredibly good value!

---

No, you can't use a splitter with the Rift. Get a DisplayPort to HDMI cable for your 2nd monitor and have the Rift plugged directly into the HDMI

u/LeBastardHead · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Hey all,
I've been looking into buying an Oculus VR setup for the PC I built a few months ago. Does anyone know if they ever go on sale? The bundle I'm looking at is $399.99. Oculus Rift I know it's best if you buy an additional sensor, which I plan on doing as well. I'm still looking around to see if I can find a better deal.

Thanks guys (and gals); I appreciate any assistance you send my way. Cheers.

u/ThatMind · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

It really makes you feel like you're sitting in a ship, it really is an amazing experience. You can turn around and see the rest of the cockpit behind you. If you use the external camera, you feel like you're floating in space and look at your ship. It feels and looks like real.

You can order it from Germany and have it delivered to Hungary, it 5,99 €.

I'd suggest getting Lenovo Explorer for 299,95 € if your head isn't too big or small, just make sure that your graphic card is good enough.

Edit: Here Obsidian Ant tries to answer is getting a VR set worth it.

u/GrimWTF · 4 pointsr/oculus

Grips, the battery casings on the Oculus Touch controller are attached via magnet and come off easily if you're playing games with fast movement like Beat Saber. Also, it lets you let go of the controller without dropping them like the Valve Index Controllers which is a nice QoL improvement of being able to let go after hours of playing.

I recommend the AMVR versions as it's easy to take off to replace the battery of the controller: https://www.amazon.com/AMVR-Controller-Oculus-Anti-Throw-Protective/dp/B07X117LPR

u/psmfthrowaway · 2 pointsr/oculus

I posted this a few weeks back but I wouldn't look at the price of a 3rd sensor so much as the price of a 3rd sensor and a backup set of touch controllers.

https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch/dp/B01BHMS88A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503957957&sr=8-1&keywords=oculus+touch+controller

Click into the additional sellers area and you will find plenty of sellers with good feedback scores selling touch box sets for $75-85 tax free and you get a third sensor in the box. depending on how aggressively you play VR, I've traded paint a handful of times with my wall already and its only a amtter of time until I break a controller so for $80 when I bought mine it was a great deal.

u/mnstrspeed · 1 pointr/Unity3D

Yep, Rift + Touch is $399. Even the Vive (also includes controllers) is only $499 nowadays :) Leap Motion is really promising, but the field of view on their current gen sensor is pretty limiting. Really interesting to play with, but probably not that useful if you're making VR games yet. Also, I don't think their SDK works with Android, in case you're thinking of sticking it on one of the standalone headsets.

u/DarthOctane · 2 pointsr/WindowsMR

Get a Vive Link box. Plug it into your graphics card and then you have a nice usb and HDMI extension and a box for it to pull out of if you tug on it. I have one mounted up by the ceiling and use it to plug my headsets in. Gives me 6 feet of extension and makes it easy to swap headsets without getting to the pc.

So the two big ones are HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, those are the only two consumer VR headsets that really shine right now. Rift is having a crazy summer sale right now, $400 on Amazon, which gets you the headset, camera sensors, and hand controllers.

Personally, I have the HTC Vive due to some issues I have with Oculus's business platform. Namely, they're owned by Facebook and are trying to pull a console-esque exclusive games deal.

But, personal qualms aside, I can't really recommend the Vive for $800 over the Rift for $400. Especially if you're playing seat games like flight simulators, that's the much much better option right now.

I'm super into VR so any questions feel free to ask away.

I haven't seen this problem very much at all besides us so I'm not totally sure what the cause is. Gonna play more today and see if the windows open messes it up again.

If it does, then I guess thats it and the index controllers are just more sensitive to light somehow.

But reading your issue again, I'm not so sure it's the same issue as me. Yours sounds like a room-setup issue or something. I'd keep tweaking the base stations, make sure they're looking at each other, roughly the same height, etc...maybe stable too? I use a tripod stand for my base stations and it works great. Think it's these ones

After double checking all that I'd start trying different USB slots, checking for firmware updates, restarting PC etc etc.

If it still acts up, maybe look into RMA..not too sure.

I was a day one adopter, and got this cheap case as it was one of the few available:

It's not bad, and is protective enough, but is just a quick adaptation of existing cases (not super customized in any way for the Go. Is relatively cheap as the glue holding the netting compartment has separated a little.

If I had to do it again, these both look like potentially interesting upgrades:

ou just have to breakdown the battery pack which is why i used velcro ties and didnt go with anything crazier.

at first i didnt want official case because nothing would fit but thats not the case. the case i was actually thinking about and have had my hands on before was actually someone bigger. i liked that case too, and the big thing it had going for it, is the controller space and a bit more are free form. i really liked this case too. size matters to me, and ultimately it would have gone into my carry on, which is all i travel with, so space is a priority. its like a square little suitcase

I've had great luck with this personally. There's some bad reviews (came malformed) but my 2 came great.

Perhaps get 25 or so sets of these and launder them every day. That would provide 50 uses with clean headsets. Also perhaps offer surgical caps (amazon has 500 for $65) for people to put over their head for sweaty straps/lice concerns

u/Pr1m3MOD · 2 pointsr/WindowsMR

I've been reading a lot about it since I'm building a new PC capable of VR and I always wanted to try it.

It's a really good VR headset. The strong poing of the headsets is the price since is more than 50% less than others with the deal (at least here), that's a steal and for an entry VR headset it's great and probably the best (imo).

Edit: Game.es also ran out of stock 3-4h after my last reply. Now they're at 250€ for whenever they get new stock...

Edit2: Amazon had new stock. They ran out of it really soon but now they're selling the headsets with the deal for the upcoming stock too so if you're interested you could probably get them with the deal. Link

Grab these cotton VR covers. I got these a while back and they do wonders for keeping the sweat out of the HMD and the default covers. It comes in a set of two so you can just wash and rotate between them. Two things to note though, they are a little annoying to put on, and they're a bit rough feeling at first (although I think that wears off as you break them in).

Aside from that, these wand skins are also pretty great for keeping the sweat out. But I've actually come to like them more for the fact they actually make the grip buttons easier to press.

I stumbled upon one review on amazon for WMR (Lenovo Explorer) and someone (user nicknamed Ed) mentioned the tracking issue of their 6dof controllers but he said that he solved the issue of shaking controllers by switching the bluetooh 4 dongle to a USB 2.0 port...so perhaps the USB 3.0 is the issue here for many people and they are not aware of it.

"Controllers tracking poorly and jumping all over the place in all applications. This was solved by moving the Bluetooth 4.0 dongle I bought from the USB 3.0 port I had originally used to a USB 2.0 port at the front of the computer. It should be noted that Microsoft actually recommend using a USB 2.0 port for the Bluetooth, so this is expected behaviour, but I mention it in case it may help someone."

I've used these since I bought my Vive. You get two reusable and washable covers. The material is a little coarse at first, but washing it with fabric softener helps.

In case it's a concern, I also have a TPCast and this cover creates enough clearance between my eyes and the screen that I don't see the green line but not so much that I notice a diminished field of view. I tried other foam replacements/covers and this was the best I found.

I just used the stands the sensors came with and put them on my roof upside down, but you can buy proper wall/ roof mounts from amazon or you could even 3D print your own. The mounts would help if you want a good looking setup though.

I put the sensors on the roof so I would t run into them and knock hem over

I ordered this pack of cotton "VR Covers" for my Rift: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y6DC1R2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At first I thought the fitment was too loose, but it has not shifted or fallen off since I put it on. Does not impact view in any way that I can tell. Mainly purchased for use when I have multiple friends over who all want to try VR. They're comfortable enough that I'll just leave it on.

u/WinterborneTE · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

The DK2 is trash, and is not worth the $90 you'd spend on it.

If you're looking for a cheaper headset, they aren't quite as solid IMO as the Vive or Oculus CV, but the windows mixed reality headsets are a MUCH better experience than the DK2 will give. A DK2 is going to be less good of a VR experience than using a cellphone VR setup, and might turn you off of VR entirely if you think it's going to be representative of the final experience. That said, given your GPU I'd hold off, upgrade your GPU and then see about getting a headset, otherwise you're not going to run things too well.

Final version Oculus is currently on sale for $350. https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/

Make sure to read the README for Mod Assistant! That might help you get things set up.

Also, I highly recommend getting Wii Remote style straps for your touch controllers off Amazon, and also buying small springs from Ace Hardware and putting them in the negative side of your controllers. It will increase your tracking consistency tremendously.

Here's a video. You don't need to buy Wii Remote straps and tie them like this anymore as there are ones specifically made for touch controllers. I'll link the Amazon link too.

Get every single piece of free content you can find. Consume the shit out of it. Get all the free stuff on the rift home and then move onto steam. Get demos too.

That will give you a good idea of the type of content you will and wont enjoy.

However, there are 2 games you can't go wrong with imho. "The Climb" and "Star Trek: Bridge Crew". Those games are magic and stupid fun. You wont regret them.

Dont worry about sensors for now. Thats an issue for a later day. You're a nub-cake atm and dont need to worry about that stuff just yet.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y6DC1R2

I purchased that bad boy. One day you will get hot and sweaty, your rift will get wet and soggy. You wont enjoy it. That little fucker helps with that. Also, one day, you will notice that the foam on your rift likes to collect every single fucking stray hair that grazes it. Those hairs will tickle the fuck out of your face. That cover helps with that a bit too, but your nose will still get tickled. It also feels nicer on the face.

amazon.com specifically mentions the two as preorder bonuses, requiring a code to be sent out.

E: Oculus blog says DaB free for Touch, no mention of preordering.

E: VRSC bundled with all preorders.

Blog for Touch pre-order launch also says

>"Touch ships globally on December 6, and you can pre-order now for $199 USD.* It comes with a second sensor and a Rock Band VR connector. Plus, all pre-orders (including retail pre-orders) come bundled with The Unspoken and VR Sports Challenge so you can cast spells and throw touchdown passes on day one."

So some stuff mentioned as free, others specifically mentioned as preorder bundled.

I have the Esimen branded version of this case. It's the exact same one but branded differently. It appears to have more room than the official case. I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but two Vive wands and the single Light House you need so you can use them as hands in game are $129.99x2+ $134.99  which comes to $394.97. (Yes, it's absurd, which is why people rarely by them on their own)

Or you could buy a Certified pre-owned Vive, with all of that and an extra Light house, and an HMD for $399 and just play it in VR

Or you could buy a Rift S New for $399 and just play it in VR

Or you could just by a Samsun Odyssey+ for $250 and just play it in VR.

I think this was recommended on the Go subreddit at one point or another. It's a nice rigid case, and surprisingly the quest fit (with both controllers and a battery pack) with no drama.

I think I'll pick up a microfiber pouch to throw the controllers, and charging accessories into to protect the lenses.

Edit - the Quest charging cable fits in the top half's pouch. I'm not saying this is the best Quest case available - but it was a coincidence that I already owned it, and figured other folks might want something low-profile (and cheap). This doesn't leave tons of extra room for accessories - but it's a solid option!

u/Vazz_ · 5 pointsr/oculus

Can't say I agree but to each their own.

Have you tried the Vive Link Box? I've heard that people have extended their Rift length with it.

Maybe this youtube video can help. Also make sure you have your latest BIOS for your motherboard and of course drivers. I got a 2700x this year and had tons of usb issues with the Rift which was weird since it ran fine on my old pc. Turned out I just needed to upgrade my bios.

I suggest replacing the bundle,

https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-3-1-Cable-pc/dp/B01MQW49B3/

They have the actual OEM cable. Otherwise, it might be a tight fit to put in another cable. You'll need very thin connectors to fit in the slot on top of the headset.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13590

Something like that would probably work, notice the very small head compared to the golden connector. But it becomes a durability issue. A general off the shelf cable isn't usually meant to be moved around and tug at all day.

u/FoferJ · 1 pointr/OculusGo

Yeah, those moldings for the touch controller and cables are unfortunate. Without those there, you could probably fit the Xbox controller in there. At least there would be some flexibility. I have a similarly-sized case with no moldings. I flip the headset's strap around and can fit everything I need in there. I also have the original cardboard covering the Go's lens when in transport, just to be safe.

Need more info on what your existing Rift setup is like (I'm guessing you only have the Rift headset with 1 sensor?).

If you only have the Rift headset and 1 sensor, then buying the "Touch Controller Bundle" will include 2 Touch controllers (Left and Right hands) and 1 additional sensor. Thus giving you a total of 2 sensors. But yes, to use Touch controllers, you must have at least 2 sensors.

A few questions as a TrackIR user, entertaining the possibility of getting a rift.

I have an i7 cpu and geforce 1070 card.

A) Will it work out of box to get above frame rate features? or is there special stuff I have to install and configure?

B) In the past I heard about fuzziness, crap resolution. Is this resolved? Can I use default settings in "ultra" or are there must have settings that won't be enabled by default ?

Bb) Also I've customized the FOV a little for my 27" monitor, is this something I need to set back to default ?

c) I have a HOTAS setup + keyboard ... I can obviously feel my way around the stick and throttle without using my eyes, but I often have to glance down at my keyboard for a few keys I have bound for special things... Is this basically impossible with VR? I'm not sure I can bind everything I need to the buttons on my HOTAS set-up.

d) will the base $399 system be enough? or do I need to buy a sensor accessory for head tracking?

I wrote up a more or less spec sheet comparison between Rift & Vive for someone else the other day, and among other things it includes a video that does a good job at comparing SDE & effective resolution between Rift & Vive, but owing to the blown up zoomed in nature of the video, it isn't representative of what you actually see inside the headset.

Simply put, yeah, it's there, it's noticeable, moreso on Vive than Rift, but once you get into the immersion of the experience it fades into background noise.

Also, Rift is currently on sale for $350 on Amazon and Best Buy.

Those headsets have only been out for a month so it's too soon to say. They only just started Steam VR's beta for them yesterday. When supports for them becomes official it'll be listed on the game's update page(currently it only lists the Rift and HTC Vive.)

As for price, as of this writing the Rift is $399, the Vive is $599 and the Windows HMDs are between $399 and $499.

There'll probably be a black friday sale for the Rift and Vive but not for the new Windows HMDs as they just came out. One of the VR subreddits might be able to give more insight as just how much they're compatible with current software. For example, some users have been able to make games that work for the Rift only and the Vive only work on the other system so it's not too much of a stretch if a user might've been able to make code to help the Window's HMD's compatability.

It depends on where you have your computer. The rift cable is about 3 feet shorter than the Vive, which comes with this extension box to use extension cables. This box needs external power via a power plug, which means more cables, while the best buy solution is less messy.

u/vanfanel1car · 2 pointsr/oculus

Not sure if something else is going on but amazon doesn't have that $50 credit but it is showing a price of $384.98 now.

Edit: back to 399.00 now

Advantages to those two over the velour cover?

Also, are these the same thing on Amazon?

Well actually, there will be a new bundle on Aug 7th, if this Amazon page is telling the truth.

u/LiquidRitz · 3 pointsr/oculus

I updated my reply with proof. Here's a link to Amazon UK so you can verify. I think the 1 stars on Amazon are justified considering this screw up.

I got the VR cover facial interface and foam replacement. I strongly recommend buying something like this when the standard face cover hurts your face. Mine did after 15-30min but with the VR Cover, I can play for hours. https://vrcover.com/product/oculus-quest-foam-and-interface-basic-set/

and the AMVR grips. https://www.amazon.com/AMVR-Controller-Oculus-Anti-Throw-Protective/dp/B07X117LPR

u/PwncakeIronfarts · 1 pointr/virtualreality

Here's the drawing I promised. It's not perfect dimensions, but it's pretty close. I used the speaker pictures in place of the Oculus sensors, and the red lines are the USB cables. I forgot to mention that I used wall mounts to stick them on the wall, though that's not strictly necessary.

The wall mounts can be bought here. You can also 3d print them with files from thingaverse, if you have access to a 3d printer.

EDIT: The TV/Monitor picture is backwards. I'm a moron. Lol.

Rift + touch ($399), 3rd sensor ($59.99). $460 for the pair, unless you meant the $350 I paid. I paid $350 because I bought it from a couple who won it at our company christmas party and had no interest in it, then bought another sensor. I believe it was on sale for $350 at one point (without 3rd sensor) but I think it was a christmas sale.

u/valdovas · 1 pointr/oculus

> from oculus will be the first rift , which will look out dated.

Samsung Odyssey came out in the end of 2017, Vive pro soon after.
So Rift and Vive are outdated for a while now. People still buy more Rifts/Vives than Odysseys and Pros combined.

And PSVR dwarfs all PCVR sales combined. Are you saying that PSVR sells so well, because it is technically superior to even the crappiest PCVR headset?

u/phimath · -4 pointsr/Vive

Yeah, so did mine. You can get the new one here though. Really makes a huge difference.

u/Bychop · 6 pointsr/oculus

I can't believe this. Oculus can't do this. It's illegal.
I order the bundle WITH the Xbox one Controller. If I don't get what I order, I want compensation.

[EDIT]: I ordered July 11 on Amazon a few days before the new bundle announcement. I have two link in my command details:

Headset: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00VF0IXEY/ref=pe_3034960_233709270_TE_item

Touch: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01BHMS88A/ref=pe_3034960_233709270_TE_item

On the product page, it's clearly say: Included Oculus Remote and Xbox One controller.

u/TheKingHippo · 2 pointsr/beatsaber

Well garbage is pretty subjective, but they give a very playable experience. I edited my post because that's closer to what I'm seeing at this exact moment on amazon. From a quick 10 second search...

Acer for $200 on Newegg

Lenovo Explorer for $210 on Amazon

They go on sale very frequently though. Check buildapcsales. WMR headsets that aren't the Samsung Odyssey are all substantially similar except for styling so dont worry too much about which one ends up on sale.

Rift and Touch together actually cost $600 right now, so your pricing is off by $100. Also, you get an additional $100 worth of Oculus Store credit if you buy it in the next few days.

u/Jakart · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Looking at your profile it seems like you live in the UK. Even if you're not able to take advantage of cheaper US hardware deals, you can still get a Rift S for under £400. It's still signifcantly cheaper than the €1000 that the above comment was making out to be necessary to use VR.
