I'm sorry you're going through this, Terra, and I hope it can end soon! I'm just going to toss around some thoughts, and I really apologize if this is the same stuff you've already been thinking about. First, I found an over-the-counter supplement that helps address my bipolar symptoms in a couple of ways. It's called NAC, and it's a pretty interesting drug. Here is a study demonstrating that it might prove helpful in reducing mania. I take it twice a day, at morning and night, and it also helps make me a little drowsy at night time so I can get to sleep, which is nice. I use this brand.

When I'm feeling manic, I'm always trying to think about spending that energy in useful and healthy pursuits. I love playing my guitar, and I also love listening to audiobooks, and those two things help to focus me and give me something good to do. I try to avoid going out too much when I'm off balance because when I drive while manic, I tend to do stupid things. Another thing is please try not to shame yourself or get mad at yourself because it's hurtful to your psyche, and this is all a brain chemistry thing - not your choice or decision. Make sure at night that your room is really dark when you sleep - it gives me comfort to actually wear a little hat and sometimes a mask over my eyes. The sleep experts say that the best way to have your bedroom is free of technology distractions like TV and phones. It teaches your brain to feel like the best and only thing to do in bed is sleep and relax. If you feel restless and want to spend time on your phone, then you can go to sit on a couch somewhere or something. Ok, I hope things get better, Terra, and have a good weekend.

Do you mean your TSH was 80.56? Or T4 was 80.56?

TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. It is released by the pituitary gland to tell the thyroid to release more thyroid hormones. If TSH is high, that is like your pituitary glad screaming at your unresponsive thyroid, so no surprise that your thyroid hormone levels were also low. That usually indicates that you need to increase your dose.

I have Hashi's and I take 146 ish mg of NatureThroid along with Hyperbiotics PRO-15 Advanced probiotics, B-complex with coenzymes, Iron, Magnesium, Omega 3-6-9, Selenium and D3-5000IU. I have tried to reduce the number of supplements I take but they all help. I sometimes take Zinc as well. I quit coffee and take caffeine pills instead and I am (not super strictly, but working on it) gluten and soy free.

The first time I took Nature Throid after switching from generic levothyroxine all of my symptoms were about 80% GONE. We increased my dose from 1/4 grain to the current 2+1/4 grain over the course of maybe 6 months.

What really fixed things for me was going gluten and soy free and adding magnesium and selenium. The selenium reduced my antibodies from nearly 500 to 100 in six months. That alone made a huge difference. And going gluten/soy free allowed me to lose 20 lbs in a month and then maintain it pretty easily just logging my calories.

Occasionally, due to poor planning, I eat regular bread or some pizza and I am sapped of energy and achy for a week afterwards. I'm working on getting into the habit of always having gluten free options on hand. But generally speaking, I feel better than I've felt my entire life.

I've never heard of having an immune response to desiccated thyroid. I've done very well on Nature Throid. You may want to get labs done every 6 weeks to check your levels and adjust your dose as needed.

Ideas about your current stack:

Maybe drop the oxiracetam for a while, I've read a few anecdotes on the racetams (and also bacopa, interestingly enough) about them "dulling" your emotions, while not always a bad thing, it can be to a degree in some people.

Consider going half alpha-gpc and half cdp-choline (300mg alpha-gpc, 250mg cdp-choline) here or here, some people notice more benefit with CDP-choline for mood

Switch out your multivitamin, ashwagandha, b-complex, zinc, next time in favour of Legion Triumph. It's got a few adaptogens in it (lavender, rhodiola, garlic might be one too, a small amount of acetylcysteine)

Drop the caffeine for a while and just try the theanine on it's own. A lot of people don't realize that caffeine can have a negative impact on your mood when used regularly, and not intermittently (a few times a week)

10,000IU of Vitamin D long term might be excessive, try tapering down to 5000IU (and Triumph also has 2000IU in it right now, so maybe even just 1000-3000IU or from an independent supplement)

Definitely drop the yohimbe/yohimbine. Maca can be good, tribulus I've read reports of it negatively effecting mood in people as well (agitation/irritability).

For the zinc/magnesium, they're both good, but if you're already getting enough zinc in your multi, you might be overdoing it. Magnesium is fine in large doses (as long as you don't get diarrhea! Then split up your doses more).

-------------

Obviously the light box will help. I'd also advise some quick HIIT in the morning time (4 sets of 10-20 squats as fast as possible, depending on your level of activity, with minimal rests in between) to get you up and about for the day. You can even do squats, push ups, glute bridges, and burpees, or something (one or two sets of each). This will take the absolute piss out of you for 5-10 minutes after, but that's a perfect opportunity to stand in the shower and pant like a dying dog.

---------

Improve your sleep too! It's not just about getting up and doing crap, make sure you're sleeping at least 7 hours a day, or try for the next two weeks getting at least one hour more of sleep every single day, and see how that makes you feel. Get flux/twilight all that crap, turn off all the brightness on your laptops/phones after it gets dark outside, turn off the lights in your room 1-2 hours before bed, all that jazz.

If you're drinking heavily (14+ standard drinks a week in men, or 9+ in women) or even drinking to help you get to sleep some nights, definitely stop doing that. Even if it isn't to improve your sleep, it's got a shit load of negative health effects. Same thing goes with smoking, but it can be hard to quit/reduce both of these things. Try to avoid smoking/drinking less than 3 hours before bed, at least. Also avoid doing the same 3 hours after waking up.

Definitely avoid caffeine within 8 hours of bed time. Honestly I think cutting this out for a couple of weeks might help a decent amount (cutting out yohimbine more)

-------

Next comes potential supplements:

Taurine, 1-3g/day (I prefer to take 1g pre-workout and 1g at night before bed) here or here (or much much much cheaper in bulk from powder city)

Inositol 0.5-2g/day (some people notice it actually reduces the drive to do things in higher doses. here or here <--- you can also just eat more citrus fruits instead (oranges or cantaloupes are good sources), some grains are also good sources. <--- consider taking the same time as taurine

Acetylcysteine (0.6-2.4g/day), I take 0.6g in the morning and 0.6 around dinner time, I've noticed it's help a shit ton with my cravings for cigarettes too. It's a decent mood stabilizer in general, and glutamate excitoxicity = bad news bears for a lot of things. here or here. Also much cheaper in bulk, but whereas taurine/inositol have a pleasant taste, acetylcysteine smells and tastes a little bit like rotting eggs (sulfur smell, although it's funny taurine doesn't have that)...

Melatonin, 300mcg at night here or here (try this even if you feel like you sleep fine, seriously)

You could also consider switching out your oxiracetam for some ALCAR/Carnitine (at 0.5-2g/day, avoiding it later in the evening) and Carnitine also might have some mild mood boosting effects in addition to it's cognitive benefits, and exercise benefits.

-----------

Oh if you'd like, you can use my coupon code from iherb for some $5 off your first order, it's JIT328... but a decent amount of this crap is actually cheaper on amazon if you buy it from there (or in bulk from other places like powdercity), so just do whatever is cheapest for you.

u/jaela · 5 pointsr/Trichsters

N-Acetyl Cysteine is an amino acid that can be taken in pill or powder form -- http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1018-N-ACETYL%20CYSTEINE.aspx?activeIngredientId=1018&activeIngredientName=N-ACETYL%20CYSTEINE
It's been recorded in a trial to reduce pulling urges. Given, the study was pretty small and NAC only proved greatly effective in 60-some percent of cases, but it's definitely worth trying. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19581567?dopt=Abstract

I've been taking the Now Foods brand. http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Nac-Acetyl-Cysteine-600mg-Vcaps/dp/B0013OUQ3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342385243&sr=8-1&keywords=n-acetyl+cysteine
It doesn't smell very good, but otherwise is easy to take and well worth the money.

Hope that helps. =]

Alright, here's my current list of supplements which I take like 1 or 2 hours before I start rolling:

  • 2 pills of 120 mg Magnesium glycinate^1

  • 1 pill of 100 mg Na-R-ALA^2

  • 2 pills of 500 mg Acetyl L-carnitine

  • 1 pill of 500 mg Quercetin, 1000 mg Vitamin C, and 100 mg Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex; all in one pill

  • 2 pills of 400 IU Vitamin E, 50 µg Selenium; all in one pill^3

  • 2 pills of 200 mg Ubiquinone (also known as CoQ10)^3

  • 1 pill of 500 mg Nicotinamide (also known as Vitamin B3)

  • 1 multivitamin pill^4

  • Final note: Ginger is supposed to be pretty good for you prior to rolling, so drinking some fresh ginger tea in the day preceding the party isn't a bad idea.

^1 A lot of Magnesium pills out there are Magnesium oxide which has shit bioavailability, get Magnesium glycinate or citrate or one of the other recommended forms.

^2 ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) may be more budget-friendly than Na-R-ALA, so alternatively you can take 200 mg of ALA.

^3 Vitamin E and Ubiquinone (aka CoQ10) are best taken like 6 hours before rolling. Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't. Otherwise just take them together with the rest.

^4 Not really as important as the rest but it can't hurt to provide your body with a bunch of vitamins and minerals before dancing all night long.

    ---

Before I go to sleep after the party, I take 1mg of melatonin and a multivitamin pill.

24 hours after rolling, I take the following supplements every day for like a week:

  • 1 pill of 100 mg 5-HTP

  • 1 pill of 350 mg EGCG
u/adidasboy1 · 1 pointr/StackAdvice

Thanks, will certainly look into it further. I am also interested in meditation and will be implementing it when this semester closes out and it makes sense to begin practicing. After doing research over the past 24 hours, I've come up with potential ideas for what I may begin using. If anyone can provide feedback or any notes on any of the following and dosage, it would be appreciated:

  • Bacopa Monnieri - I wasn't sure if it's important to take the extract or the whole herb in capsule form
  • L-Citrulline
  • NAC - I read a recent study suggesting NAC may break down the BBB, but the unhealthy rats used seem faulty
  • KSM-66
  • Chelated Magnesium - I read chelated is the best in this case

Each of these listed are all just ideas, I'm not sure what would be necessary and what wouldn't, just what I've gathered from reading. I have also considered Zembrine and I'm not sure if a dopamine supplement would be necessary for any reason, but if so I've looked at L-Theanine and Dopa Mucuna.

In researching all of this, I've also found multivitamins created specifically for anxiety. Something like this seems it could be promising. Am I better off creating my own stack and taking supplements individually, or would the multivitamin option be something worth considering? Does anyone have any experience?
u/campassi · 1 pointr/Hashimotos

> Ever since I started this I have felt awful. Throat fullness/tightness, headache, fatigue dizziness & nausea. Anyone else have this problem?

Iodine alone without cofactors can make for an unpleasant experience, what you're experiencing isn't unusual.

I have a few suggestions, but I do not know what is in your chaste berry supplement and multivitamin so be sure to check them for selenium/selenomethionine so you don't take too much.

300-600mg magnesium (malate and taurate are good ones)

100mg B2 riboflavin twice a day (the yellow component of a b-complex)

500mg niacin twice a day (use inositol hexanicotinate, usually called "no flush" niacin, 500mg of true B3/niacinamide/nicotinic acid will ruin your day)

200mcg selenomethionine (be sure to check the multivitamin and other supplement for this, you don't want more than 400mcg in a day)

1,000mg Vitamin C (3 times a day)

1/2 tsp Celtic sea salt (Redmond Real salt works too)

I believe these will help you see a welcome improvement, this is a great baseline to start out with.

More info available in [Iodine by David Brownstein M.D.] and [The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow]

Quick links:

[Magnesium malate]

[B2/B3 cofactors]

[Selenomethionine]

[Vitamin C]

[Celtic sea salt]

[12.5mg iodine](what you're taking now is probably great, though the books recommend 50mg)

Wellbutrin is usually only for nicotine. It doesn't really work on cravings, it just reduces withdrawal symptoms and works on norepinephrine to reduce the pleasure derived from smoking. For cannabis and other drug cravings, NAC (N-acetylcysteine) can be very effective. It's been shown to considerably reduce cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine cravings. It's being studied for OCD because it reduces all kinds of compulsive behaviors. Lamictal and naltrexone have also been shown to reduce substance cravings.

Try NOW™️ NAC. It’s great, I got it on Amazon. Not to mention the price was right. here’s the link to the stuff I bought

Yeah, it's a over the counter antioxidant pill. I take two daily. It's really easy to find research about online.

I started taking this. it seems to be helping me get better sleep and clearer thinking.

Definitely Amino Acids gives your body the missing suppliments it needs especially for schizophrenics. Mainly, antioxidants will help to get rid of the toxins in your brain.

Yeah, Ive come to terms with my delusions, it can be scary some times. Im also agnostic or atheist, however these demons are pretty real to me. I have to watch out for them in my dreams and if they manifest themselves into full blown delusions. I either have to run and run if I want to stay asleep. Or wake up. There is no fighting them because it has no effect.

When I do get to dream, it means my brain is processing my events in the day and storing them into memories. When I dont dream thats when I have short term memory problems due to this illness.

u/American-Water · 2 pointsr/running

Anyone ever take a NAC supplement like this? For whatever reason (a few years ago interest in taking all those weird things to make you 'be' 'more' 'optimal' (lots of scare quotes)) and then a pulmonary problem, I had been taking a daily NAC supplement for, well, a few years. But I'm over my pulmonary thing and don't really feel like paying forty bucks a year for something that does nothing.

So, any experience or input on NAC? I looked it up on that one website that everyone always tells people to look at for supplements, but I'm more interested in specific experience from this sub.

u/NothingLasts · 1 pointr/conspiracy

What's special about his selenium? 60ct, 200mcg for $19.95. The first result on amazon is 180ct, 200mc for $12.09.

Jones' product is 375% more expensive.

u/nxqv · 2 pointsr/leaves

Here's my recommendation. Go seek out weekly, 1 on 1 substance abuse cessation counseling. Supplement it with this thing called NAC, you can get it at any vitamin store.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22706327

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4009342/

https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-Nac-Acetyl-Cysteine-600mg/dp/B0013OUQ3S

The study had people taking 1200mg twice daily. So four of those caplets a day.

It helps a lot but you should really seek out the drug counseling too. Without it the NAC probably isn't as effective. Honestly it's still super experimental so maybe it could be.

u/3AlarmLampscooter · 55 pointsr/todayilearned

Another reply already posted them.

Here's a better price:
http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Acetyl-L-Carnitine-500mg/dp/B0027DWNHQ/

http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Nac-Acetyl-Cysteine-600mg-Vcaps/dp/B0013OUQ3S/

Of course bulk powder will always be cheaper.

And I've never really heard of side effects, at least anything notable. Certainly nothing for me. You can probably find anecdotes here and there, but don't forget placebo has side effects. I'll totally submit that to TIL.

Any lavender supplement would probably help somewhat. And I went to the Australian Amazon site. You're right, they don't have Mood Boost, but the ingredients in this are similar:
https://www.amazon.com.au/CALMEAZE-Improve-Relaxation-Supplement-Theanine/dp/B07LCV7Z9R/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=anxiety+supplements&qid=1567508985&s=gateway&sr=8-1

u/adovest · 2 pointsr/Anxiety

I originally was buying it from my local store within the Albertson's company, but it was often hard to find or out of stock. Now I'm getting it from Amazon (link here) and it seems to be working the same. The recommended starting dose is 1200mg, so I take 600 in the AM and 600 in the PM, and if I'm having a really bad day, I will sometimes take a dose in the early afternoon too.

Also, the studies aren't as clear, but it is suggested to take 1-3x as much vitamin C as you are of NAC, so I land in the middle and take 1000mg of vitamin C per 600mg of NAC.

u/Squat5 · 1 pointr/steroids

u/marsomenos · 1 pointr/Hidradenitis

ucg is just alternative notation for mcg (micrograms)

1000 micrograms = 1 milligram (mg)

I use Solgar selenomethionine 200mcg, I take one every other day. This is what I use.

u/merginas_are_real · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I bought this. N-acetyl Cysteine is supposedly beneficial for people with anxiety and depression, including nail biting habits. If you look through the reviews (or the search bar on reddit), there are many people that recommended it! I haven't been taking them regularly enough to say so myself though.

u/lappath · 11 pointsr/altright

It was a low blow to call Baked Alaska a "junkie" when Cernovich is constantly on stuff like NAC, modafinil, caffeine, and assorted various nootropics all the time.

You don't exactly inspire confidence in yourself when you're name-calling guys lower on the ladder than you who went to serious bat for Trump. That's not leadership.

u/nwglassgrrl01 · 1 pointr/CPTSD

Ask your doc about NAC - it's N-Acetyl Cysteine, a amino acid.

My psych ARNP suggested it when the anti-depressant & all the other stuff I'm on didn't do the whole trick. It's been a game-changer for me (when I ran out, I definitely missed it).

She's also taking me off the Lexapro & putting me on Cymbalta, which is supposed to help with my chronic muscle tension and nerve pain.

Here's the Amazon link to the one I use:

https://www.amazon.com/NOW-NAC-600-250-Capsules/dp/B0013OUQ3S/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=now+nac+1000+mg+supplement+capsules&qid=1567051820&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I hope it's OK to post the link.

My naturopath is going to put me on low-dose Naltrexone (LDN) once I'm fully off the Lexapro & on the Cymbalta - apparently LDN is really good for a lot of conditions, including PTSD, panic disorder, dissociative disorder, anxiety (GAD), and depression, among a host of other conditions. I can't wait!

Here are a couple of links to information on LDN:

http://lowdosenaltrexone.org/

I hope this helps.

that 4chan pic gets posted regularily on cum popular subreddits. last time i saw it, a biology major made a comment. something about something from raw green veges also helping in the production of that fluid (likely semenal fluid), so raw green veges or some cysteine should also help

https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-Nac-Acetyl-Cysteine-600mg/dp/B0013OUQ3S?th=1

so i take a dose of those too. for a while i was trying to drink 1 whole head of lettuce a day (blended with fruit to make it taste ok). i didnt notice an obvious increase in cum at that point. but i may have already had all the nutrients i needed.

word of warning, the pygeum makes your dick sensitive, and you just leak cum while hard. the sensitive part can be undesired and odd at first. people said "makes you precum like mad". however, i think you just leak seminal fluid while hard, like you loose a little bit of control. not that it made me cum anymore. if it's too weird, you could probably leave it out and still have great results.

I took this past February off, started taking NAC for my liver and went to the doctor to get my liver enzymes rechecked after they came back very high.

The month off did normalize my levels. So I told everyone that thinks "I'm killing myself" to piss off and that I would continue every year to do feb off and doctor's visits until I have serious damage.

I choose Feb because it's the the shortest month, aim low.
