Hey everyone! I just spent most of last year camping out while travelling all around the US, here's some of my favorite gear that we still use around the house:

Not BIFL but I use my HMDX Jam portable speaker - Great portable, rechargeable bluetooth speaker. Use it around the house all the time for music in the shower, while cooking, or working on the car outside. Amazing audio quality with surprisingly deep bass for such a small speaker. If you put it on a semi-flexible flat surface like a garbage can or overturned canoe it'll also vibrate that and make even more bass!

MSR Alpine cutting board - Small enough to leave out on the counter without taking up room if you just need to cut something small/quick.

Black Diamond Storm Headlamp - As others in the thread have said, these things are extremely useful, but this one in particular is awesome. Watertight seals, ridiculously bright but dimmable long-throw spot or medium proximity lighting mode that throws an even 180 degree field of light for close up work, and red LEDs to preserve nightvision.

Nalgene On-The-Fly - After trying out a ton of water bottles, these are my favorite! Super tough Nalgene bottle, the cap is a lot easier to drink from than an open nalgene bottle, never leaks and you can open them with one hand. Also you can screw the lid on other Nalgene wide mouth bottles.

Part 2 to my post

-Riced Cauliflower (can be bought in bulk at Costco, or for a few bucks a bag)

-Feel free to buy normal white rice if you’re being economical, brown rice is better for you though iirc

-My Walmart sells these General Tso’s/Orange Chicken meals with Mac n Cheese/Mashed potatoes. I eat half the chicken with one of the sides. (Bout $4.50 each)

-Quaker Oats instant oatmeal Apple or Maple Brown Sugar. Pretty cheap, I eat two at a time for breakfast.

-Kodiak Cakes Frozen Pancakes w/Mrs. Butterworth's Sugar-Free Syrup. The waffles are good too.

Protein bars (Costco brand, $18 a box)

Notes: Don’t eat like you have to lose all the weight at once. Listen to your body and don’t starve yourself, you only want to lose a few pounds a week. There are 52 weeks in a year. PLENTY of time.

Protein bars can have a lot of sugar. Don’t pay attention to the “X GRAMS OF PROTEIN” stuff, pay attention to the sugar and calorie count. I like 1-2g of sugar and about 150 calories per bar.

I can get by eating pretty lean but that doesn’t mean it’ll work for you, or maybe what I do will be too much. If you’re hungry eat a protein bar or pasta. We all have different bodies. Really listen to the hunger and try to eat something small in between meals if you’re too hungry, or even before a meal by about an hour so you’re not ravenous come meal time.

If you’re ravenous in between meals, eat something more substantial than a pasta (like the chili or the chicken with riced cauliflower). Being ravenous means you’re probably way undershooting your calories.

DRINK WATER. DRINK WATER. DRINK WATER. I like this water bottle below. Sturdy, flip top, the company will send you free new lids if yours breaks but you have to be pretty rough with it to do that. Drink at least one full bottle between breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner, and dinner and bed. 3-5 bottles a day, maybe more. It prevents you from being hungry as hell and is good for you. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TVO38F0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Supplements: Kirkland Signature Gummy Multi-vitamin, Kirkland Signature Calcium, Glucosamine (for joints), Now Foods Black Currant Oil (bought on Amazon for fat burning, proven to work pretty good in studies), NATROL Melatonin (for good sleep, again Costco has it).

Look, at the very least take a multi-vitamin. Again, Costco has them for a fair price. I eat the gummy ones! Adulting doesn’t have to suck! But it’s good to take at least the first three, and the other two as you feel if you need to or not.

So here’s the full rundown of my meals:

Breakfast: Two Oatmeals/4-6 Pancakes/4 Waffles

Lunch: Veggie Pasta/Chili/Chicken with Riced Cauliflower

Dinner: The same stuff as lunch or anything else I listed

Snack: Fit in between a meal if needed

Try to only do one snack/protein bar a day in between meals. You shouldn’t need one in between every meal but feel it out, the water should keep you pretty full though.

If you do a veggie pasta for lunch and dinner, you may need a third one after dinner. Again, listen to your body on this stuff but two pastas a day for your meals by themselves will be very little food and calories. Mix some of the broccoli or those chicken strips in there to pad it out a bit.

I don’t know how well-versed you or anyone reading this is in exercise so let me say, start out with what you can do. If you can walk or jog, get on a treadmill and try to either go for a distance or an amount of time. I started out running for five minutes intermittently and walking for twenty five. I would just keep upping the running as much as I could and the speed at which I was doing it if I could. Just try to do a little better each day!

Lastly, check the scale at most weekly. Daily checks don’t tell you shit. Weight fluctuates based on a ton of factors (like eating too much salt can cause you to retain water). If your weight isn’t moving week to week, you’re either eating too much or not exercising enough. If it’s moving in the right direction, keep at what you’re doing. If it isn’t moving then what you’re doing is not working.

Also, buy yourself an instant pot or a crock pot and look up some recipes! They’re made to help the lazy and busy people! Here are three sites to get you started:

You know what works SO well? A garden mister! You pump it a few times and then it sprays continuously for a good amount of time. Definitely use warm water.

This is the one I use, and it’s amazing for birdie showers as well as for so many things like cooling off at the beach (Add ice cubes!), cleaning, and gardening.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00WHIFDQE/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_track_package_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My Moluccan cockatoo is my only bird (of 6!) that doesn’t love showers. He’s such a wimp! So that mister works really well and he tolerates it much better than actually being in the shower with me.

They are just so incredibly dusty that it’s important that they get a shower otherwise your whole house will be covered more than it already is LOL.

I have macaws, and the dust from the cockatoos gives them respiratory issues and could even cause them to die, so I have to have an insane amount of expensive air purifiers and keep them in a separate room just so they can breathe cockatoo dust free air. The amount of dust is out of this world!

If you look at a cockatoos nostrils, you will notice that they are super thin and tiny so that they don’t breathe in all their dust. Most other bird’s nostrils are much more open and large.

I wish I could package the dust, it seems like it would make a great face powder lol

I am a water snob, and so the only home filter I like is the Pur 3-layer filters, but I like ice cold water, so - I have 4 crystal clear 1 quart narrow mouth bottles that I fill with water and have refrigerated at all times.

I know it's not your answer, I just wanted to say - the narrow mouth nalgenes are great - and the clear ones are good to see any impurities and you can easily see if they are clean. They do make them in "clear" - they're not as popular but they are great.

I use these:

http://www.amazon.com/Nalgene-Narrow-Mouth-Clear-Green/dp/B001PT9UAQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449422791&sr=8-3&keywords=clear+nalgene+water+bottle

u/naery · 1 pointr/AskReddit

If he's an active kid, he might like some frolf supplies, a bicycle, a gym bag, a beanie with built-in headphones (I love wearing that when I'm snowboarding or running in winter), some good headphones that don't slip during active activities, a camelbak water pack, a water bottle, a fitness journal, a running clinic (I took one when I was playing football and it helped immensely!)...

Probably the best thing, though, is something that the two of you could do together, like a reservation at a batting cage where he can help you improve your swing, or time at a driving range.

It's awesome that you're trying, though. Don't think he doesn't realize you're trying. That'll mean a lot to him, though he probably won't realize it just now (damn hormones).

u/Kittycat-banana · 1 pointr/Wet_Shavers

If you dont already have a waterbottle, I LOVE my nalgene bottles in this style! I have two, one by my bedside and one to take around with me! It really helps me drink more water! I also find, if im relaxing on the couch, I like drinking my water with ice and a straw better.

u/RipVanBinkle · 1 pointr/bikepacking

Yo you should definitely go with the bladder!

I did the GAP and CO at the end of this past summer and used essentially exactly the water storage system you're describing. I had the medium sized 12L Apidura full frame bag, and used this skinny, tubular 3L /100 OZ water bladder along the top "shelf" of the bag. It fit perfectly, and the tube routed out of a covered access hole in the front of the bag. I also carried a Nalgene in a pannier, and a 621 ML/ 21 OZ capped water bottle in a bottle cage on the bottom of the down tube. I thought this system worked extremely well- especially the bladder. I found myself refilling the bladder with water from the Nalgene, as the bladder was so easy to drink from while riding. It holds all of that water weight in a great spot to minimize impact on handling, too. Here's a picture of my rig- you can see the bladder hose on the handlebar roll.

Both Platypus and Vapur make backpacking wine skins. I work at an outdoor retail store and everyone that I've talked to has really loved the wine bags that they've used. Haven't used them myself but I hope this is somewhat helpful!

Edit: Also sorry I just realized you're looking for a glass, not just a wineskin. I should read a little more carefully. Here's a wine glass from GSI. Similar story to the wine skins, people that come into the store have really liked them that have used them, though I personally haven't.

u/LolFishFail · 1 pointr/PKA

This is the one I have, assuming you're US.

It holds one litre of water, is easy to clean and doesn't make water / juice taste like plastic. One of the best value purchases I've got, since I used it every single day and cost £10.

u/Naosyth · 1 pointr/EDC

I use this bottle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011LC85PM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's semi-transparent plastic, which I like because I can easily see how much water is left. It holds a lot (1000ml), is easy to clean, has a grill at the top to prevent ice cubes from blocking the spout, and is easy to drink out of.

So far, it's held up fine, and hasn't leaked at all.

u/driving26inorovalley · 11 pointsr/Tucson

That's a great idea! My favorite purchase so far this summer has been this thing -- you fill it with ice cubes and water and mist yourself like you're a houseplant: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WJDZBR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_5iaIkm7MVHLz9

It was also useful last night when we lost power and I didn't feel like suffocating myself in the garage to get AC, lol.

u/hatt3r5_girl · 2 pointsr/littlespace

It is a Munchkin 360 cup :) with this type of sippy you can drink from any side. Not as “little” feeling as a true sippy, but definitely does the trick for me and keeps from spilling my juice (good for clumsy me). They sell smaller ones in stores, but this is the biggest I’ve been able to find!

Munchkin Miracle 360 Tritan Spill Proof Water Bottle, Pink, 24 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HFTGBBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_n4i1DbEBMSVGD

u/StefaniePags · 14 pointsr/nursing

I love my water bottle for work. It checks off every box that is important for me, and I definitely drink more water when i have it then when I don't. It's insulated (no wet mess on the desk), it has a straw (for sensitive teeth). it's a decent size (22 oz) but still fits in a normal cup holder in the car, it comes in pretty colors, and every part is dishwasher safe (cause I'm lazy).

Here.

u/P3N3LOP33P · 2 pointsr/snakes

If you're keen on doing some work to save money and have some tools lying around, you could build your own enclosure for much cheaper than premade ones. There's plenty of tutorials and the materials (usually wood or acrylic) are fairly affordable. The long term costs of owning a snake are pretty negligible, it's the initial cost that's going to be pretty high.

Aside from the enclosure, you also need; a heat mat (ex), a thermostat (ex1 ex2), thermometer and hygrometer (ex), substrate (ex1 ex2), 2 hides (ex), water dish (ex), ceramic heat emitter (ex), cleaning supplies (ex), and a mist bottle (ex).

Those are all just examples and some of them might not work for you, but it should give you an idea of what to look for. Things that aren't "technically" a requirement but are highly recommended are plants/decor and a light (UVB if you want to spoil them) to provide a day/night cycle. If you're wanting a Ball Python, options are practically endless on MorphMarket. Just make sure you do your research on a breeder before buying.

u/rawsiefilnredom · 3 pointsr/MTB

Pro tip #2: Get a bottle like this. I use this one in particular and I absolutely love it. A bit pricey but genuinely the best water bottle I own and the first one I grab for a ride.

u/tinysnek · 2 pointsr/loseit

I have an insulated Camelbak.

Since I like cold water it tends to make other bottles have condensation on the outside but this prevents that. It also helps keep the water somewhat cold.

I would also recommend getting a water bottle cleaner if you get one with a bite straw since they can get kind of icky. I use this set.

u/eVRydayVR · 1 pointr/oculus

IMO the best solution to this is to fill a resealable water bottle or thermos with beer - one of the ones that opens and closes really easily, like this one. Make a habit of opening it to drink from it, then immediately close it again. That way, when you inevitably knock it over, there are no real consequences.

If you don't have a reusable water bottle, I highly recommend a Narrow-Mouthed Nalgene.. They're virtually indestructible, very inexpensive at $10 a pop, very easy to clean and they hold a liter of water. 3.5 of these filled to the brim is a gallon of water.

u/washboard · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

I've also found that the straws from common sports bottles like this CamelBak bottle fit perfectly into a picnic tap as well and are already cut to length! This is what I've used to fill bottles before.

u/kaorte · 3 pointsr/loseit

I swear by my camelbak eddy water bottle. The bite valve and straw makes it easy to mindlessly drink a ton of water. I really don't like tilting my head back to drink water and I find I drink a lot more when I have a straw type bottle. I usually have 3-4 bottles a day which comes out to 60-80oz. Add in tea and various other cups of water and I'm probably close to 90oz a day.

Don't just get any water bottle. Get one you like. Get a pretty color or a cool design. One that makes you want to bring it with you and refill it. I have This one

u/Drunk_Panda_456 · 1 pointr/EDC

I like the brand Thermos. I have the Stainless King 24 Ounce Drink Bottle and it is very nice. I would recommend the Vacuum Insulated 18 Ounce Stainless Steel Hydration Bottle or the 16 Ounce Stainless Steel Commuter Bottle as one you might like... I personally use a CamelBak Eddy Insulated .6L Water Bottle everyday...

Humans are fighting a race that has attempted to enslave humanity.

There is a lot of travel between planets/systems, but very little spaceflight.

The primary mission is a friendly outreach to help those who are in need, but the enemy keeps popping up.

There's another group of humans who would prefer that the primary mission be to obtain what is necessary to defeat the enemy AT ALL COSTS that keeps interfering with the main group.

There are several other races. Most of them are wary of helping the humans, but some are more helpful than others. There are a few instances where they appear to help the humans but it turns out there were ulterior motives.

Hopefully this is enough to convince you, but if not, maybe if I told you that between the tv shows and movies, there are 17 seasons and 3 movies, so you'll be occupied for a while.

I use a Camelbak Eddy water bottle from Amazon, real cheap. I have a couple of them actually and I think they're great. Make sure you get a special water bottle cleaning kit for it b/c a lot of people don't clean their water bottles and assume its okay, but they can easily mold.

Smoothies!

You can add lots of fruit,a pinch of veggies, yogurt. You can even add protein powder if you feel like it!

Put it into a bottle something like this https://www.amazon.com/NALGENE-Tritan-1-Quart-BPA-Free-32-Ounce/dp/B001NCDE4S/ref=lp_2597078011_1_5?srs=2597078011&ie=UTF8&qid=1487615124&sr=8-5#

here is a smaller version of the above bottle.

With that, I'd probably be inclined to send something carby. A roll, granola, or bread with jelly or peanut butter.

Camelbak Better Bottle with Bite Valve

http://www.amazon.com/CamelBak-BPA-Free-Better-Bottle-Valve/dp/B0019DCD7U

Get the 1 Liter. They also have aluminum, but it only goes up to 0.75L and it dented quickly when I got one. The plastic one is awesome.

u/sharpestcookie · 0 pointsr/HydroHomies

I don't even buy regular water bottles anymore. The Camelbak Eddy was the only one I tried, and it was good but I needed something bigger, that had or accommodated a straw, that would fit in my car's cupholder, and would keep drinks cold throughout the day and night.

I've gone through at least 20 vacuum bottles - in my cheapskatery, I became a collector - and the only two to stand the test of time are a 32oz and 68oz Aquatix. I've had them both for over 2 years now, and I've always felt that Hydroflasks are overpriced.

Lots of colors (for 32oz), very reasonably priced ($28 & $48), stays cold for 24hrs, and I suggest getting the silicone bottom sleeve for the 32oz. It didn't exist when I bought mine, and my bottle's dinged/scratched now. The 68oz definitely does NOT fit in a cupholder.

32oz: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TVO38F0/

68oz: https://www.amazon.com/Aquatix-Insulated-Stainless-thermos-Midnight/dp/B00UZCB3B8/

And these are the straws I bought for them, if you're interested. I stretched a straw out completely and cut it to size. When it's in the bottle, the cap seal compresses it upon closing - and it pops up again upon opening. Sometimes I have to fish the straw out of the spout, but I just use a pair of tweezers I keep in my pocket :D

u/RainbowZester · 2 pointsr/PKA

For anyone wondering, get this version of it. It's easy to drink from with the mouth-piece and it's perfectly 1L so you know how much you drank if you cleared X amount of bottles.

Find a water bottle that works well for you! I absolutely love Camelbak bite valve bottles, I find them insanely easy to drink a ton of water out of (somehow faster, easier, and more enjoyable than glasses?)!

Before pregnancy I had a 600ml bottle, but this was just too puny for my new water needs so I bought a liter sized bottle. I keep it on my desk at work, and all I need to do is go through a little less than 3 of these bad boys a day. Easy breezy.

Holy crap I cannot recommend this water bottle enough! It's this 32 oz Embrava Sports Water Bottle ($22) that I got off Amazon! It definitely leak proof, doesn't add any weird taste to the water, it can hold a lot of water without being ginormous, it has really fast water flow (to the point where you kinda have to get used to it when you first get it), it's overall amazing! 10/10 highly recommend!

Very good lid, easier to drink out of from the narrow mouth but it isn't meant to be used for camping water supply. I like it cause i can open it up and put ice in.

I'm also just learning about water storage and, based in part on recommendations on this sub, I also recently got one of these [5 gallon scepter water cans] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MTI0GA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Seems to be solidly constructed but I just recently purchased it so I don't have a lot of experience with it. Regarding the aqua-tainers, I have two of them and I will say that I find the aquatainer spigot annoying because it is kind of leaky.
